DiscoForcing: A Unified Framework for Real-Time Audio-Driven Character Control with Diffusion Forcing

We study real-time audio-responsive character control as a deployment-faithful problem: strictly causal, bounded-latency streaming that must generate coherent full-body motion at interactive frame rates while the audio condition can change abruptly, including tempo shifts, drops, or user edits. Prior music-to-motion systems are largely optimized for offline generation with global context, and degrade in streaming rollouts where conditioning history becomes stale or unreliable. We introduce DiscoForcing, a streaming audio-driven diffusion framework that combines a causal music encoder that captures rhythmic structure and phase dynamics with a diffusion-forcing sequence model trained under heterogeneous noise levels across the temporal horizon. Building on this, we design a hybrid temporal schedule and a history-guided streaming sampler to explicitly trade off responsiveness against long-horizon consistency under non-stationary audio. Implemented in an end-to-end real-time interactive system with online avatar playback and humanoid deployment workflows, DiscoForcing delivers more stable long-horizon rollouts and sharper audio-motion alignment than prior baselines under matched causality and latency constraints while maintaining real-time throughput.

Knowledge Transfer from Interaction Learning

Current visual foundation models (VFMs) face a fundamental limitation in transferring knowledge from vision language models (VLMs), while VLMs excel at modeling cross-modal interactions through unified representation spaces, existing VFMs predominantly adopt result-oriented paradigms that neglect the underlying interaction processes. This representational discrepancy hinders effective knowledge transfer and limits generalization across diverse vision tasks. We propose Learning from Interactions (LFI), a cognitive-inspired framework that addresses this gap by explicitly modeling visual understanding as an interactive process. Our key insight is that capturing the dynamic interaction patterns encoded in pre-trained VLMs enables more faithful and efficient knowledge transfer to VFMs. The approach centers on two technical innovations, Interaction Queries, which maintain persistent relational structures across network layers, and interaction-based supervision, derived from the cross-modal attention mechanisms of VLMs. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate consistent improvements across multiple benchmarks, achieving 3.3 and 1.6mAP/2.4AP absolute gains on TinyImageNet classification and COCO detection/segmentation respectively, with minimal parameter overhead and faster convergence. The framework particularly excels in cross-domain settings, delivering 2.4 and 9.3 zero-shot improvements on PACS and VLCS. Human evaluations further confirm its cognitive alignment, outperforming result-oriented methods by 2.7 times in semantic consistency metrics.

HOID-R1: Reinforcement Learning for Open-World Human-Object Interaction Detection Reasoning with Multimodal Large Language Model

Understanding and recognizing human-object interaction (HOI) is a pivotal application in AR/VR and robotics. Recent open-vocabulary HOI detection approaches depend exclusively on large language models for richer textual prompts, neglecting their inherent 3D spatial understanding capabilities. To address this shortcoming, we introduce HOID-R1, the first HOI detection framework that integrates chain-of-thought (CoT) guided supervised fine-tuning (SFT) with group relative policy optimization (GRPO) within a reinforcement learning (RL) paradigm. Specifically, we initially apply SFT to imbue the model with essential reasoning capabilities, forcing the model to articulate its thought process in the output. Subsequently, we integrate GRPO to leverage multi-reward signals for policy optimization, thereby enhancing alignment across diverse modalities. To mitigate hallucinations in the CoT reasoning, we introduce an "MLLM-as-a-judge" mechanism that supervises the CoT outputs, further improving generalization. Extensive experiments show that HOID-R1 achieves state-of-the-art performance on HOI detection benchmarks and outperforms existing methods in open-world generalization to novel scenarios.

Towards Immersive Human-X Interaction: A Real-Time Framework for Physically Plausible Motion Synthesis

Real-time synthesis of physically plausible human interactions remains a critical challenge for immersive VR/AR systems and humanoid robotics. While existing methods demonstrate progress in kinematic motion generation, they often fail to address the fundamental tension between real-time responsiveness, physical feasibility, and safety requirements in dynamic human-machine interactions. We introduce Human-X, a novel framework designed to enable immersive and physically plausible human interactions across diverse entities, including human-avatar, human-humanoid, and human-robot systems. Unlike existing approaches that focus on post-hoc alignment or simplified physics, our method jointly predicts actions and reactions in real-time using an auto-regressive reaction diffusion planner, ensuring seamless synchronization and context-aware responses. To enhance physical realism and safety, we integrate an actor-aware motion tracking policy trained with reinforcement learning, which dynamically adapts to interaction partners' movements while avoiding artifacts like foot sliding and penetration. Extensive experiments on the Inter-X and InterHuman datasets demonstrate significant improvements in motion quality, interaction continuity, and physical plausibility over state-of-the-art methods. Our framework is validated in real-world applications, including virtual reality interface for human-robot interaction, showcasing its potential for advancing human-robot collaboration.

Evaluating Effects of Background Stories on Graph Perception

A graph is an abstract model that represents relations among entities, for example, the interactions between characters in a novel. A background story endows entities and relations with real-world meanings and describes the semantics and context of the abstract model, for example, the actual story that the novel presents. Considering practical experience and prior research, human viewers who are familiar with the background story of a graph and those who do not know the background story may perceive the same graph differently. However, no previous research has adequately addressed this problem. This research paper thus presents an evaluation that investigated the effects of background stories on graph perception. Three hypotheses that focused on the role of visual focus areas, graph structure identification, and mental model formation on graph perception were formulated and guided three controlled experiments that evaluated the hypotheses using real-world graphs with background stories. An analysis of the resulting experimental data, which compared the performance of participants who read and did not read the background stories, obtained a set of instructive findings. First, having knowledge about a graph's background story influences participants' focus areas during interactive graph explorations. Second, such knowledge significantly affects one's ability to identify community structures but not high degree and bridge structures. Third, this knowledge influences graph recognition under blurred visual conditions. These findings can bring new considerations to the design of storytelling visualizations and interactive graph explorations.
