Seed1.5-Thinking: Advancing Superb Reasoning Models with Reinforcement Learning

We introduce Seed1.5-Thinking, capable of reasoning through thinking before responding, resulting in improved performance on a wide range of benchmarks. Seed1.5-Thinking achieves 86.7 on AIME 2024, 55.0 on Codeforces and 77.3 on GPQA, demonstrating excellent reasoning abilities in STEM and coding. Beyond reasoning tasks, the method demonstrates notable generalization across diverse domains. For instance, it surpasses DeepSeek R1 by 8% in win rate on non-reasoning tasks, indicating its broader applicability. Compared to other state-of-the-art reasoning models, Seed1.5-Thinking is a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model with a relatively small size, featuring 20B activated and 200B total parameters. As part of our effort to assess generalized reasoning, we develop two internal benchmarks, BeyondAIME and Codeforces, both of which will be publicly released to support future research. VDL-Surrogate: A View-Dependent Latent-based Model for Parameter Space Exploration of Ensemble Simulations

We propose VDL-Surrogate, a view-dependent neural-network-latent-based surrogate model for parameter space exploration of ensemble simulations that allows high-resolution visualizations and user-specified visual mappings. Surrogate-enabled parameter space exploration allows domain scientists to preview simulation results without having to run a large number of computationally costly simulations. Limited by computational resources, however, existing surrogate models may not produce previews with sufficient resolution for visualization and analysis. To improve the efficient use of computational resources and support high-resolution exploration, we perform ray casting from different viewpoints to collect samples and produce compact latent representations. This latent encoding process reduces the cost of surrogate model training while maintaining the output quality. In the model training stage, we select viewpoints to cover the whole viewing sphere and train corresponding VDL-Surrogate models for the selected viewpoints. In the model inference stage, we predict the latent representations at previously selected viewpoints and decode the latent representations to data space. For any given viewpoint, we make interpolations over decoded data at selected viewpoints and generate visualizations with user-specified visual mappings. We show the effectiveness and efficiency of VDL-Surrogate in cosmological and ocean simulations with quantitative and qualitative evaluations. IDLat: An Importance-Driven Latent Generation Method for Scientific Data

Deep learning based latent representations have been widely used for numerous scientific visualization applications such as isosurface similarity analysis, volume rendering, flow field synthesis, and data reduction, just to name a few. However, existing latent representations are mostly generated from raw data in an unsupervised manner, which makes it difficult to incorporate domain interest to control the size of the latent representations and the quality of the reconstructed data. In this paper, we present a novel importance-driven latent representation to facilitate domain-interest-guided scientific data visualization and analysis. We utilize spatial importance maps to represent various scientific interests and take them as the input to a feature transformation network to guide latent generation. We further reduced the latent size by a lossless entropy encoding algorithm trained together with the autoencoder, improving the storage and memory efficiency. We qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of latent representations generated by our method with data from multiple scientific visualization applications.

Learning Continuous Wasserstein Barycenter Space for Generalized All-in-One Image Restoration

Despite substantial advances in all-in-one image restoration for addressing diverse degradations within a unified model, existing methods remain vulnerable to out-of-distribution degradations, thereby limiting their generalization in real-world scenarios. To tackle the challenge, this work is motivated by the intuition that multisource degraded feature distributions are induced by different degradation-specific shifts from an underlying degradation-agnostic distribution, and recovering such a shared distribution is thus crucial for achieving generalization across degradations. With this insight, we propose BaryIR, a representation learning framework that aligns multisource degraded features in the Wasserstein barycenter (WB) space, which models a degradation-agnostic distribution by minimizing the average of Wasserstein distances to multisource degraded distributions. We further introduce residual subspaces, whose embeddings are mutually contrasted while remaining orthogonal to the WB embeddings. Consequently, BaryIR explicitly decouples two orthogonal spaces: a WB space that encodes the degradation-agnostic invariant contents shared across degradations, and residual subspaces that adaptively preserve the degradation-specific knowledge. This disentanglement mitigates overfitting to in-distribution degradations and enables adaptive restoration grounded on the degradation-agnostic shared invariance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that BaryIR performs competitively against state-of-the-art all-in-one methods. Notably, BaryIR generalizes well to unseen degradations (\textit{e.g.,} types and levels) and shows remarkable robustness in learning generalized features, even when trained on limited degradation types and evaluated on real-world data with mixed degradations.

ZKBoost: Zero-Knowledge Verifiable Training for XGBoost

Gradient boosted decision trees, particularly XGBoost, are among the most effective methods for tabular data. As deployment in sensitive settings increases, cryptographic guarantees of model integrity become essential. We present ZKBoost, the first zero-knowledge proof of training (zkPoT) protocol for XGBoost, enabling model owners to prove correct training on a committed dataset without revealing data or parameters. We make three key contributions: (1) a fixed-point XGBoost implementation compatible with arithmetic circuits, enabling instantiation of efficient zkPoT, (2) a generic template of zkPoT for XGBoost, which can be instantiated with any general-purpose ZKP backend, and (3) vector oblivious linear evaluation (VOLE)-based instantiation resolving challenges in proving nonlinear fixed-point operations. Our fixed-point implementation matches standard XGBoost accuracy within 1\% while enabling practical zkPoT on real-world datasets.

Virtual Width Networks

We introduce Virtual Width Networks (VWN), a framework that delivers the benefits of wider representations without incurring the quadratic cost of increasing the hidden size. VWN decouples representational width from backbone width, expanding the embedding space while keeping backbone compute nearly constant. In our large-scale experiment, an 8-times expansion accelerates optimization by over 2 times for next-token and 3 times for next-2-token prediction. The advantage amplifies over training as both the loss gap grows and the convergence-speedup ratio increases, showing that VWN is not only token-efficient but also increasingly effective with scale. Moreover, we identify an approximately log-linear scaling relation between virtual width and loss reduction, offering an initial empirical basis and motivation for exploring virtual-width scaling as a new dimension of large-model efficiency.

Track4World: Feedforward World-centric Dense 3D Tracking of All Pixels

Estimating the 3D trajectory of every pixel from a monocular video is crucial and promising for a comprehensive understanding of the 3D dynamics of videos. Recent monocular 3D tracking works demonstrate impressive performance, but are limited to either tracking sparse points on the first frame or a slow optimization-based framework for dense tracking. In this paper, we propose a feedforward model, called Track4World, enabling an efficient holistic 3D tracking of every pixel in the world-centric coordinate system. Built on the global 3D scene representation encoded by a VGGT-style ViT, Track4World applies a novel 3D correlation scheme to simultaneously estimate the pixel-wise 2D and 3D dense flow between arbitrary frame pairs. The estimated scene flow, along with the reconstructed 3D geometry, enables subsequent efficient 3D tracking of every pixel of this video. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our approach consistently outperforms existing methods in 2D/3D flow estimation and 3D tracking, highlighting its robustness and scalability for real-world 4D reconstruction tasks.

XANE(3): An E(3)-Equivariant Graph Neural Network for Accurate Prediction of XANES Spectra from Atomic Structures

We present XANE(3), a physics-based E(3)-equivariant graph neural network for predicting X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra directly from atomic structures. The model combines tensor-product message passing with spherical harmonic edge features, absorber-query attention pooling, custom equivariant layer normalization, adaptive gated residual connections, and a spectral readout based on a multi-scale Gaussian basis with an optional sigmoidal background term. To improve line-shape fidelity, training is performed with a composite objective that includes pointwise spectral reconstruction together with first- and second-derivative matching terms. We evaluate the model on a dataset of 5,941 FDMNES simulations of iron oxide surface facets and obtain a spectrum mean squared error of $1.0 \times 10^{-3}$ on the test set. The model accurately reproduces the main edge structure, relative peak intensities, pre-edge features, and post-edge oscillations. Ablation studies show that the derivative-aware objective, custom equivariant normalization, absorber-conditioned attention pooling, adaptive gated residual mixing, and global background term each improve performance. Interestingly, a capacity-matched scalar-only variant achieves comparable pointwise reconstruction error but reduced derivative-level fidelity, indicating that explicit tensorial channels are not strictly required for low intensity error on this dataset, although they remain beneficial for capturing finer spectral structure. These results establish XANE(3) as an accurate and efficient surrogate for XANES simulation and offer a promising route toward accelerated spectral prediction, ML-assisted spectroscopy, and data-driven materials discovery.

ChemGraph-XANES: An Agentic Framework for XANES Simulation and Analysis

Computational X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) is widely used to probe local coordination environments, oxidation states, and electronic structure in chemically complex systems. However, the use of computational XANES at scale is constrained more by workflow complexity than by the underlying simulation method itself. To address this challenge, we present ChemGraph-XANES, an agentic framework for automated XANES simulation and analysis that unifies natural-language task specification, structure acquisition, FDMNES input generation, task-parallel execution, spectral normalization, and provenance-aware data curation. Built on ASE, FDMNES, Parsl, and a LangGraph/LangChain-based tool interface, the framework exposes XANES workflow operations as typed Python tools that can be orchestrated by large language model (LLM) agents. In multi-agent mode, a retrieval-augmented expert agent consults the FDMNES manual to ground parameter selection, while executor agents translate user requests into structured tool calls. We demonstrate documentation-grounded parameter retrieval and show that the same workflow supports both explicit structure-file inputs and chemistry-level natural-language requests. Because independent XANES calculations are naturally task-parallel, the framework is well suited for high-throughput deployment on high-performance computing (HPC) systems, enabling scalable XANES database generation for downstream analysis and machine-learning applications. ChemGraph-XANES thus provides a reproducible and extensible workflow layer for physics-based XANES simulation, spectral curation, and agent-compatible computational spectroscopy.

ELLMob: Event-Driven Human Mobility Generation with Self-Aligned LLM Framework

Human mobility generation aims to synthesize plausible trajectory data, which is widely used in urban system research. While Large Language Model-based methods excel at generating routine trajectories, they struggle to capture deviated mobility during large-scale societal events. This limitation stems from two critical gaps: (1) the absence of event-annotated mobility datasets for design and evaluation, and (2) the inability of current frameworks to reconcile competitions between users' habitual patterns and event-imposed constraints when making trajectory decisions. This work addresses these gaps with a twofold contribution. First, we construct the first event-annotated mobility dataset covering three major events: Typhoon Hagibis, COVID-19, and the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Second, we propose ELLMob, a self-aligned LLM framework that first extracts competing rationales between habitual patterns and event constraints, based on Fuzzy-Trace Theory, and then iteratively aligns them to generate trajectories that are both habitually grounded and event-responsive. Extensive experiments show that ELLMob wins state-of-the-art baselines across all events, demonstrating its effectiveness. GNN-Surrogate: A Hierarchical and Adaptive Graph Neural Network for Parameter Space Exploration of Unstructured-Mesh Ocean Simulations

We propose GNN-Surrogate, a graph neural network-based surrogate model to explore the parameter space of ocean climate simulations. Parameter space exploration is important for domain scientists to understand the influence of input parameters (e.g., wind stress) on the simulation output (e.g., temperature). The exploration requires scientists to exhaust the complicated parameter space by running a batch of computationally expensive simulations. Our approach improves the efficiency of parameter space exploration with a surrogate model that predicts the simulation outputs accurately and efficiently. Specifically, GNN-Surrogate predicts the output field with given simulation parameters so scientists can explore the simulation parameter space with visualizations from user-specified visual mappings. Moreover, our graph-based techniques are designed for unstructured meshes, making the exploration of simulation outputs on irregular grids efficient. For efficient training, we generate hierarchical graphs and use adaptive resolutions. We give quantitative and qualitative evaluations on the MPAS-Ocean simulation to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of GNN-Surrogate. Weaver: Foundation Models for Creative Writing

This work introduces Weaver, our first family of large language models (LLMs) dedicated to content creation. Weaver is pre-trained on a carefully selected corpus that focuses on improving the writing capabilities of large language models. We then fine-tune Weaver for creative and professional writing purposes and align it to the preference of professional writers using a suit of novel methods for instruction data synthesis and LLM alignment, making it able to produce more human-like texts and follow more diverse instructions for content creation. The Weaver family consists of models of Weaver Mini (1.8B), Weaver Base (6B), Weaver Pro (14B), and Weaver Ultra (34B) sizes, suitable for different applications and can be dynamically dispatched by a routing agent according to query complexity to balance response quality and computation cost. Evaluation on a carefully curated benchmark for assessing the writing capabilities of LLMs shows Weaver models of all sizes outperform generalist LLMs several times larger than them. Notably, our most-capable Weaver Ultra model surpasses GPT-4, a state-of-the-art generalist LLM, on various writing scenarios, demonstrating the advantage of training specialized LLMs for writing purposes. Moreover, Weaver natively supports retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and function calling (tool usage). We present various use cases of these abilities for improving AI-assisted writing systems, including integration of external knowledge bases, tools, or APIs, and providing personalized writing assistance. Furthermore, we discuss and summarize a guideline and best practices for pre-training and fine-tuning domain-specific LLMs.

External Large Foundation Model: How to Efficiently Serve Trillions of Parameters for Online Ads Recommendation

Ads recommendation is a prominent service of online advertising systems and has been actively studied. Recent studies indicate that scaling-up and advanced design of the recommendation model can bring significant performance improvement. However, with a larger model scale, such prior studies have a significantly increasing gap from industry as they often neglect two fundamental challenges in industrial-scale applications. First, training and inference budgets are restricted for the model to be served, exceeding which may incur latency and impair user experience. Second, large-volume data arrive in a streaming mode with data distributions dynamically shifting, as new users/ads join and existing users/ads leave the system. We propose the External Large Foundation Model (ExFM) framework to address the overlooked challenges. Specifically, we develop external distillation and a data augmentation system (DAS) to control the computational cost of training/inference while maintaining high performance. We design the teacher in a way like a foundation model (FM) that can serve multiple students as vertical models (VMs) to amortize its building cost. We propose Auxiliary Head and Student Adapter to mitigate the data distribution gap between FM and VMs caused by the streaming data issue. Comprehensive experiments on internal industrial-scale applications and public datasets demonstrate significant performance gain by ExFM.

Playing with Transformer at 30+ FPS via Next-Frame Diffusion

Autoregressive video models offer distinct advantages over bidirectional diffusion models in creating interactive video content and supporting streaming applications with arbitrary duration. In this work, we present Next-Frame Diffusion (NFD), an autoregressive diffusion transformer that incorporates block-wise causal attention, enabling iterative sampling and efficient inference via parallel token generation within each frame. Nonetheless, achieving real-time video generation remains a significant challenge for such models, primarily due to the high computational cost associated with diffusion sampling and the hardware inefficiencies inherent to autoregressive generation. To address this, we introduce two innovations: (1) We extend consistency distillation to the video domain and adapt it specifically for video models, enabling efficient inference with few sampling steps; (2) To fully leverage parallel computation, motivated by the observation that adjacent frames often share the identical action input, we propose speculative sampling. In this approach, the model generates next few frames using current action input, and discard speculatively generated frames if the input action differs. Experiments on a large-scale action-conditioned video generation benchmark demonstrate that NFD beats autoregressive baselines in terms of both visual quality and sampling efficiency. We, for the first time, achieves autoregressive video generation at over 30 Frames Per Second (FPS) on an A100 GPU using a 310M model.

MultiBalance: Multi-Objective Gradient Balancing in Industrial-Scale Multi-Task Recommendation System

In industrial recommendation systems, multi-task learning (learning multiple tasks simultaneously on a single model) is a predominant approach to save training/serving resources and improve recommendation performance via knowledge transfer between the joint learning tasks. However, multi-task learning often suffers from negative transfer: one or several tasks are less optimized than training them separately. To carefully balance the optimization, we propose a gradient balancing approach called MultiBalance, which is suitable for industrial-scale multi-task recommendation systems. It balances the per-task gradients to alleviate the negative transfer, while saving the huge cost for grid search or manual explorations for appropriate task weights. Moreover, compared with prior work that normally balance the per-task gradients of shared parameters, MultiBalance is more efficient since only requiring to access per-task gradients with respect to the shared feature representations. We conduct experiments on Meta's large-scale ads and feeds multi-task recommendation system, and observe that MultiBalance achieves significant gains (e.g., 0.738% improvement for normalized entropy (NE)) with neutral training cost in Queries Per Second (QPS), which is significantly more efficient than prior methods that balance per-task gradients of shared parameters with 70~80% QPS degradation.

Amico: An Event-Driven Modular Framework for Persistent and Embedded Autonomy

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) and autonomous agents have enabled systems capable of performing complex tasks across domains such as human-computer interaction, planning, and web navigation. However, many existing frameworks struggle in real-world or resource-constrained environments due to their reliance on cloud-based computation, limited robustness in dynamic contexts, and lack of persistent autonomy and environmental awareness. We present Amico, a modular, event-driven framework for building autonomous agents optimized for embedded systems. Written in Rust for safety and performance, Amico supports reactive, persistent agents that operate efficiently across embedded platforms and browser environments via WebAssembly. It provides clean abstractions for event handling, state management, behavior execution, and integration with reasoning modules. Amico delivers a unified infrastructure for constructing resilient, interactive agents suitable for deployment in settings with limited compute and intermittent connectivity.

Feed m Birds with One Scone: Accelerating Multi-task Gradient Balancing via Bi-level Optimization

In machine learning, the goal of multi-task learning (MTL) is to optimize multiple objectives together. Recent works, for example, Multiple Gradient Descent Algorithm (MGDA) and its variants, show promising results with dynamically adjusted weights for different tasks to mitigate conflicts that may potentially degrade the performance on certain tasks. Despite the empirical success of MGDA-type methods, one major limitation of such methods is their computational inefficiency, as they require access to all task gradients. In this paper we introduce MARIGOLD, a unified algorithmic framework for efficiently solving MTL problems. Our method reveals that multi-task gradient balancing methods have a hierarchical structure, in which the model training and the gradient balancing are coupled during the whole optimization process and can be viewed as a bi-level optimization problem. Moreover, we showcase that the bi-level problem can be solved efficiently by leveraging zeroth-order method. Extensive experiments on both public datasets and industrial-scale datasets demonstrate the efficiency and superiority of our method.

MedCoRAG: Interpretable Hepatology Diagnosis via Hybrid Evidence Retrieval and Multispecialty Consensus

Diagnosing hepatic diseases accurately and interpretably is critical, yet it remains challenging in real-world clinical settings. Existing AI approaches for clinical diagnosis often lack transparency, structured reasoning, and deployability. Recent efforts have leveraged large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and multi-agent collaboration. However, these approaches typically retrieve evidence from a single source and fail to support iterative, role-specialized deliberation grounded in structured clinical data. To address this, we propose MedCoRAG (i.e., Medical Collaborative RAG), an end-to-end framework that generates diagnostic hypotheses from standardized abnormal findings and constructs a patient-specific evidence package by jointly retrieving and pruning UMLS knowledge graph paths and clinical guidelines. It then performs Multi-Agent Collaborative Reasoning: a Router Agent dynamically dispatches Specialist Agents based on case complexity; these agents iteratively reason over the evidence and trigger targeted re-retrievals when needed, while a Generalist Agent synthesizes all deliberations into a traceable consensus diagnosis that emulates multidisciplinary consultation. Experimental results on hepatic disease cases from MIMIC-IV show that MedCoRAG outperforms existing methods and closed-source models in both diagnostic performance and reasoning interpretability.

Augmented Reality-based Guidance with Deformable Registration in Head and Neck Tumor Resection

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) has one of the highest rates of recurrence cases among solid malignancies. Recurrence rates can be reduced by improving positive margins localization. Frozen section analysis (FSA) of resected specimens is the gold standard for intraoperative margin assessment. However, because of the complex 3D anatomy and the significant shrinkage of resected specimens, accurate margin relocation from specimen back onto the resection site based on FSA results remains challenging. We propose a novel deformable registration framework that uses both the pre-resection upper surface and the post-resection site of the specimen to incorporate thickness information into the registration process. The proposed method significantly improves target registration error (TRE), demonstrating enhanced adaptability to thicker specimens. In tongue specimens, the proposed framework improved TRE by up to 33% as compared to prior deformable registration. Notably, tongue specimens exhibit complex 3D anatomies and hold the highest clinical significance compared to other head and neck specimens from the buccal and skin. We analyzed distinct deformation behaviors in different specimens, highlighting the need for tailored deformation strategies. To further aid intraoperative visualization, we also integrated this framework with an augmented reality-based auto-alignment system. The combined system can accurately and automatically overlay the deformed 3D specimen mesh with positive margin annotation onto the resection site. With a pilot study of the AR guided framework involving two surgeons, the integrated system improved the surgeons' average target relocation error from 9.8 cm to 4.8 cm.

Reinforcement Learning for Load-balanced Parallel Particle Tracing

We explore an online reinforcement learning (RL) paradigm to dynamically optimize parallel particle tracing performance in distributed-memory systems. Our method combines three novel components: (1) a work donation algorithm, (2) a high-order workload estimation model, and (3) a communication cost model. First, we design an RL-based work donation algorithm. Our algorithm monitors workloads of processes and creates RL agents to donate data blocks and particles from high-workload processes to low-workload processes to minimize program execution time. The agents learn the donation strategy on the fly based on reward and cost functions designed to consider processes' workload changes and data transfer costs of donation actions. Second, we propose a workload estimation model, helping RL agents estimate the workload distribution of processes in future computations. Third, we design a communication cost model that considers both block and particle data exchange costs, helping RL agents make effective decisions with minimized communication costs. We demonstrate that our algorithm adapts to different flow behaviors in large-scale fluid dynamics, ocean, and weather simulation data. Our algorithm improves parallel particle tracing performance in terms of parallel efficiency, load balance, and costs of I/O and communication for evaluations with up to 16,384 processors.

Deep Hierarchical Super Resolution for Scientific Data

We present a novel technique for hierarchical super resolution (SR) with neural networks (NNs), which upscales volumetric data represented with an octree data structure to a high-resolution uniform grid with minimal seam artifacts on octree node boundaries. Our method uses existing state-of-the-art SR models and adds flexibility to upscale input data with varying levels of detail across the domain, instead of only uniform grid data that are supported in previous approaches. The key is to use a hierarchy of SR NNs, each trained to perform 2x SR between two levels of detail, with a hierarchical SR algorithm that minimizes seam artifacts by starting from the coarsest level of detail and working up. We show that our hierarchical approach outperforms baseline interpolation and hierarchical upscaling methods, and demonstrate the usefulness of our proposed approach across three use cases including data reduction using hierarchical downsampling+SR instead of uniform downsampling+SR, computation savings for hierarchical finite-time Lyapunov exponent field calculation, and super-resolving low-resolution simulation results for a high-resolution approximation visualization.

Geometry-Driven Detection, Tracking and Visual Analysis of Viscous and Gravitational Fingers

Viscous and gravitational flow instabilities cause a displacement front to break up into finger-like fluids. The detection and evolutionary analysis of these fingering instabilities are critical in multiple scientific disciplines such as fluid mechanics and hydrogeology. However, previous detection methods of the viscous and gravitational fingers are based on density thresholding, which provides limited geometric information of the fingers. The geometric structures of fingers and their evolution are important yet little studied in the literature. In this work, we explore the geometric detection and evolution of the fingers in detail to elucidate the dynamics of the instability. We propose a ridge voxel detection method to guide the extraction of finger cores from three-dimensional (3D) scalar fields. After skeletonizing finger cores into skeletons, we design a spanning tree based approach to capture how fingers branch spatially from the finger skeletons. Finally, we devise a novel geometric-glyph augmented tracking graph to study how the fingers and their branches grow, merge, and split over time. Feedback from earth scientists demonstrates the usefulness of our approach to performing spatio-temporal geometric analyses of fingers.
