A Voxel-Based Quantum Computing Method (VBQC) for Solid Mechanics ProblemFeng Wu, Yuxiang Yang, Li Zhu et al.
Quantum computing presents a promising method to overcome the efficiency and memory constraints in large-scale mechanical problems, with numerous successful applications demonstrated in fluid mechanics. However, solid mechanics problems usually require irregular grids for spatial discretization, due to the Lagrange formulations and complex boundaries, which makes the quantum simulation of the system matrix, e.g., the mass or stiffness matrix which is often referred to as the Hamiltonian in quantum computing, difficult to be effectively conducted. This study proposes a voxel-based quantum computing method (VBQC) for the quantum simulation of Hamiltonians in solid mechanics. VBQC applies voxel grids to discretize the spatial domain, thereby enabling the system matrix to exhibit the tridiagonal fractal property. Based on this property, the system matrix can be decomposed into three groups of fundamental matrices, $\mathbf{k}_{n}$, $\mathbf{c}_{n}$, and $\mathbf{q}_{n}$. This decomposition process is referred to as the KCQ decomposition. By integrating the KCQ decomposition with the quantum Fourier transform and the quantum multiplexer, VBQC enables efficient quantum simulation of Hamiltonians in solid mechanics. Three specific solid problems with different dimensions and numbers of variables are applied to preliminarily verify the correctness of the proposed VBQC for solid mechanics problems.

APT-36K: A Large-scale Benchmark for Animal Pose Estimation and TrackingYuxiang Yang, Junjie Yang, Yufei Xu et al.
Animal pose estimation and tracking (APT) is a fundamental task for detecting and tracking animal keypoints from a sequence of video frames. Previous animal-related datasets focus either on animal tracking or single-frame animal pose estimation, and never on both aspects. The lack of APT datasets hinders the development and evaluation of video-based animal pose estimation and tracking methods, limiting real-world applications, e.g., understanding animal behavior in wildlife conservation. To fill this gap, we make the first step and propose APT-36K, i.e., the first large-scale benchmark for animal pose estimation and tracking. Specifically, APT-36K consists of 2,400 video clips collected and filtered from 30 animal species with 15 frames for each video, resulting in 36,000 frames in total. After manual annotation and careful double-check, high-quality keypoint and tracking annotations are provided for all the animal instances. Based on APT-36K, we benchmark several representative models on the following three tracks: (1) supervised animal pose estimation on a single frame under intra- and inter-domain transfer learning settings, (2) inter-species domain generalization test for unseen animals, and (3) animal pose estimation with animal tracking. Based on the experimental results, we gain some empirical insights and show that APT-36K provides a valuable animal pose estimation and tracking benchmark, offering new challenges and opportunities for future research. GLT-T: Global-Local Transformer Voting for 3D Single Object Tracking in Point CloudsJiahao Nie, Zhiwei He, Yuxiang Yang et al.
Current 3D single object tracking methods are typically based on VoteNet, a 3D region proposal network. Despite the success, using a single seed point feature as the cue for offset learning in VoteNet prevents high-quality 3D proposals from being generated. Moreover, seed points with different importance are treated equally in the voting process, aggravating this defect. To address these issues, we propose a novel global-local transformer voting scheme to provide more informative cues and guide the model pay more attention on potential seed points, promoting the generation of high-quality 3D proposals. Technically, a global-local transformer (GLT) module is employed to integrate object- and patch-aware prior into seed point features to effectively form strong feature representation for geometric positions of the seed points, thus providing more robust and accurate cues for offset learning. Subsequently, a simple yet effective training strategy is designed to train the GLT module. We develop an importance prediction branch to learn the potential importance of the seed points and treat the output weights vector as a training constraint term. By incorporating the above components together, we exhibit a superior tracking method GLT-T. Extensive experiments on challenging KITTI and NuScenes benchmarks demonstrate that GLT-T achieves state-of-the-art performance in the 3D single object tracking task. Besides, further ablation studies show the advantages of the proposed global-local transformer voting scheme over the original VoteNet. OSP2B: One-Stage Point-to-Box Network for 3D Siamese TrackingJiahao Nie, Zhiwei He, Yuxiang Yang et al.
Two-stage point-to-box network acts as a critical role in the recent popular 3D Siamese tracking paradigm, which first generates proposals and then predicts corresponding proposal-wise scores. However, such a network suffers from tedious hyper-parameter tuning and task misalignment, limiting the tracking performance. Towards these concerns, we propose a simple yet effective one-stage point-to-box network for point cloud-based 3D single object tracking. It synchronizes 3D proposal generation and center-ness score prediction by a parallel predictor without tedious hyper-parameters. To guide a task-aligned score ranking of proposals, a center-aware focal loss is proposed to supervise the training of the center-ness branch, which enhances the network's discriminative ability to distinguish proposals of different quality. Besides, we design a binary target classifier to identify target-relevant points. By integrating the derived classification scores with the center-ness scores, the resulting network can effectively suppress interference proposals and further mitigate task misalignment. Finally, we present a novel one-stage Siamese tracker OSP2B equipped with the designed network. Extensive experiments on challenging benchmarks including KITTI and Waymo SOT Dataset show that our OSP2B achieves leading performance with a considerable real-time speed.Code will be available at https://github.com/haooozi/OSP2B.

FP8-LM: Training FP8 Large Language ModelsHouwen Peng, Kan Wu, Yixuan Wei et al.
In this paper, we explore FP8 low-bit data formats for efficient training of large language models (LLMs). Our key insight is that most variables, such as gradients and optimizer states, in LLM training can employ low-precision data formats without compromising model accuracy and requiring no changes to hyper-parameters. Specifically, we propose a new FP8 automatic mixed-precision framework for training LLMs. This framework offers three levels of FP8 utilization to streamline mixed-precision and distributed parallel training for LLMs. It gradually incorporates 8-bit gradients, optimizer states, and distributed learning in an incremental manner. Experiment results show that, during the training of GPT-175B model on H100 GPU platform, our FP8 mixed-precision training framework not only achieved a remarkable 39% reduction in real memory usage but also ran 75% faster than the widely adopted BF16 framework (i.e., Megatron-LM), surpassing the speed of Nvidia Transformer Engine by 37%. This largely reduces the training costs for large foundation models. Furthermore, our FP8 mixed-precision training methodology is generic. It can be seamlessly applied to other tasks such as LLM instruction tuning and reinforcement learning with human feedback, offering savings in fine-tuning expenses. GLT-T++: Global-Local Transformer for 3D Siamese Tracking with Ranking LossJiahao Nie, Zhiwei He, Yuxiang Yang et al.
Siamese trackers based on 3D region proposal network (RPN) have shown remarkable success with deep Hough voting. However, using a single seed point feature as the cue for voting fails to produce high-quality 3D proposals. Additionally, the equal treatment of seed points in the voting process, regardless of their significance, exacerbates this limitation. To address these challenges, we propose a novel transformer-based voting scheme to generate better proposals. Specifically, a global-local transformer (GLT) module is devised to integrate object- and patch-aware geometric priors into seed point features, resulting in robust and accurate cues for offset learning of seed points. To train the GLT module, we introduce an importance prediction branch that learns the potential importance weights of seed points as a training constraint. Incorporating this transformer-based voting scheme into 3D RPN, a novel Siamese method dubbed GLT-T is developed for 3D single object tracking on point clouds. Moreover, we identify that the highest-scored proposal in the Siamese paradigm may not be the most accurate proposal, which limits tracking performance. Towards this concern, we approach the binary score prediction task as a ranking problem, and design a target-aware ranking loss and a localization-aware ranking loss to produce accurate ranking of proposals. With the ranking losses, we further present GLT-T++, an enhanced version of GLT-T. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our GLT-T and GLT-T++ outperform state-of-the-art methods in terms of tracking accuracy while maintaining a real-time inference speed. STEP3-VL-10B Technical ReportAilin Huang, Chengyuan Yao, Chunrui Han et al.
We present STEP3-VL-10B, a lightweight open-source foundation model designed to redefine the trade-off between compact efficiency and frontier-level multimodal intelligence. STEP3-VL-10B is realized through two strategic shifts: first, a unified, fully unfrozen pre-training strategy on 1.2T multimodal tokens that integrates a language-aligned Perception Encoder with a Qwen3-8B decoder to establish intrinsic vision-language synergy; and second, a scaled post-training pipeline featuring over 1k iterations of reinforcement learning. Crucially, we implement Parallel Coordinated Reasoning (PaCoRe) to scale test-time compute, allocating resources to scalable perceptual reasoning that explores and synthesizes diverse visual hypotheses. Consequently, despite its compact 10B footprint, STEP3-VL-10B rivals or surpasses models 10$\times$-20$\times$ larger (e.g., GLM-4.6V-106B, Qwen3-VL-235B) and top-tier proprietary flagships like Gemini 2.5 Pro and Seed-1.5-VL. Delivering best-in-class performance, it records 92.2% on MMBench and 80.11% on MMMU, while excelling in complex reasoning with 94.43% on AIME2025 and 75.95% on MathVision. We release the full model suite to provide the community with a powerful, efficient, and reproducible baseline.

BEVTrack: A Simple and Strong Baseline for 3D Single Object Tracking in Bird's-Eye ViewYuxiang Yang, Yingqi Deng, Mian Pan et al.
3D Single Object Tracking (SOT) is a fundamental task in computer vision and plays a critical role in applications like autonomous driving. However, existing algorithms often involve complex designs and multiple loss functions, making model training and deployment challenging. Furthermore, their reliance on fixed probability distribution assumptions (e.g., Laplacian or Gaussian) hinders their ability to adapt to diverse target characteristics such as varying sizes and motion patterns, ultimately affecting tracking precision and robustness. To address these issues, we propose BEVTrack, a simple yet effective motion-based tracking method. BEVTrack directly estimates object motion in Bird's-Eye View (BEV) using a single regression loss. To enhance accuracy for targets with diverse attributes, it learns adaptive likelihood functions tailored to individual targets, avoiding the limitations of fixed distribution assumptions in previous methods. This approach provides valuable priors for tracking and significantly boosts performance. Comprehensive experiments on KITTI, NuScenes, and Waymo Open Dataset demonstrate that BEVTrack achieves state-of-the-art results while operating at 200 FPS, enabling real-time applicability. Continuous Versatile Jumping Using Learned Action ResidualsYuxiang Yang, Xiangyun Meng, Wenhao Yu et al.
Jumping is essential for legged robots to traverse through difficult terrains. In this work, we propose a hierarchical framework that combines optimal control and reinforcement learning to learn continuous jumping motions for quadrupedal robots. The core of our framework is a stance controller, which combines a manually designed acceleration controller with a learned residual policy. As the acceleration controller warm starts policy for efficient training, the trained policy overcomes the limitation of the acceleration controller and improves the jumping stability. In addition, a low-level whole-body controller converts the body pose command from the stance controller to motor commands. After training in simulation, our framework can be deployed directly to the real robot, and perform versatile, continuous jumping motions, including omni-directional jumps at up to 50cm high, 60cm forward, and jump-turning at up to 90 degrees. Learning Semantics-Aware Locomotion Skills from Human DemonstrationYuxiang Yang, Xiangyun Meng, Wenhao Yu et al.
The semantics of the environment, such as the terrain type and property, reveals important information for legged robots to adjust their behaviors. In this work, we present a framework that learns semantics-aware locomotion skills from perception for quadrupedal robots, such that the robot can traverse through complex offroad terrains with appropriate speeds and gaits using perception information. Due to the lack of high-fidelity outdoor simulation, our framework needs to be trained directly in the real world, which brings unique challenges in data efficiency and safety. To ensure sample efficiency, we pre-train the perception model with an off-road driving dataset. To avoid the risks of real-world policy exploration, we leverage human demonstration to train a speed policy that selects a desired forward speed from camera image. For maximum traversability, we pair the speed policy with a gait selector, which selects a robust locomotion gait for each forward speed. Using only 40 minutes of human demonstration data, our framework learns to adjust the speed and gait of the robot based on perceived terrain semantics, and enables the robot to walk over 6km without failure at close-to-optimal speed.

Learning Localization-aware Target Confidence for Siamese Visual TrackingJiahao Nie, Han Wu, Zhiwei He et al.
Siamese tracking paradigm has achieved great success, providing effective appearance discrimination and size estimation by the classification and regression. While such a paradigm typically optimizes the classification and regression independently, leading to task misalignment (accurate prediction boxes have no high target confidence scores). In this paper, to alleviate this misalignment, we propose a novel tracking paradigm, called SiamLA. Within this paradigm, a series of simple, yet effective localization-aware components are introduced, to generate localization-aware target confidence scores. Specifically, with the proposed localization-aware dynamic label (LADL) loss and localization-aware label smoothing (LALS) strategy, collaborative optimization between the classification and regression is achieved, enabling classification scores to be aware of location state, not just appearance similarity. Besides, we propose a separate localization branch, centered on a localization-aware feature aggregation (LAFA) module, to produce location quality scores to further modify the classification scores. Consequently, the resulting target confidence scores, are more discriminative for the location state, allowing accurate prediction boxes tend to be predicted as high scores. Extensive experiments are conducted on six challenging benchmarks, including GOT-10k, TrackingNet, LaSOT, TNL2K, OTB100 and VOT2018. Our SiamLA achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of both accuracy and efficiency. Furthermore, a stability analysis reveals that our tracking paradigm is relatively stable, implying the paradigm is potential to real-world applications.

Noise-Agnostic Quantum Error Mitigation with Data Augmented Neural ModelsManwen Liao, Yan Zhu, Giulio Chiribella et al.
Quantum error mitigation, a data processing technique for recovering the statistics of target processes from their noisy version, is a crucial task for near-term quantum technologies. Most existing methods require prior knowledge of the noise model or the noise parameters. Deep neural networks have a potential to lift this requirement, but current models require training data produced by ideal processes in the absence of noise. Here we build a neural model that achieves quantum error mitigation without any prior knowledge of the noise and without training on noise-free data. To achieve this feature, we introduce a quantum augmentation technique for error mitigation. Our approach applies to quantum circuits and to the dynamics of many-body and continuous-variable quantum systems, accommodating various types of noise models. We demonstrate its effectiveness by testing it both on simulated noisy circuits and on real quantum hardware.

SiamMo: Siamese Motion-Centric 3D Object TrackingYuxiang Yang, Yingqi Deng, Jing Zhang et al.
Current 3D single object tracking methods primarily rely on the Siamese matching-based paradigm, which struggles with textureless and incomplete LiDAR point clouds. Conversely, the motion-centric paradigm avoids appearance matching, thus overcoming these issues. However, its complex multi-stage pipeline and the limited temporal modeling capability of a single-stream architecture constrain its potential. In this paper, we introduce SiamMo, a novel and simple Siamese motion-centric tracking approach. Unlike the traditional single-stream architecture, we employ Siamese feature extraction for motion-centric tracking. This decouples feature extraction from temporal fusion, significantly enhancing tracking performance. Additionally, we design a Spatio-Temporal Feature Aggregation module to integrate Siamese features at multiple scales, capturing motion information effectively. We also introduce a Box-aware Feature Encoding module to encode object size priors into motion estimation. SiamMo is a purely motion-centric tracker that eliminates the need for additional processes like segmentation and box refinement. Without whistles and bells, SiamMo not only surpasses state-of-the-art methods across multiple benchmarks but also demonstrates exceptional robustness in challenging scenarios. SiamMo sets a new record on the KITTI tracking benchmark with 90.1\% precision while maintaining a high inference speed of 108 FPS. The code will be released at https://github.com/HDU-VRLab/SiamMo.

Step 3.5 Flash: Open Frontier-Level Intelligence with 11B Active ParametersAilin Huang, Ang Li, Aobo Kong et al.
We introduce Step 3.5 Flash, a sparse Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model that bridges frontier-level agentic intelligence and computational efficiency. We focus on what matters most when building agents: sharp reasoning and fast, reliable execution. Step 3.5 Flash pairs a 196B-parameter foundation with 11B active parameters for efficient inference. It is optimized with interleaved 3:1 sliding-window/full attention and Multi-Token Prediction (MTP-3) to reduce the latency and cost of multi-round agentic interactions. To reach frontier-level intelligence, we design a scalable reinforcement learning framework that combines verifiable signals with preference feedback, while remaining stable under large-scale off-policy training, enabling consistent self-improvement across mathematics, code, and tool use. Step 3.5 Flash demonstrates strong performance across agent, coding, and math tasks, achieving 85.4% on IMO-AnswerBench, 86.4% on LiveCodeBench-v6 (2024.08-2025.05), 88.2% on tau2-Bench, 69.0% on BrowseComp (with context management), and 51.0% on Terminal-Bench 2.0, comparable to frontier models such as GPT-5.2 xHigh and Gemini 3.0 Pro. By redefining the efficiency frontier, Step 3.5 Flash provides a high-density foundation for deploying sophisticated agents in real-world industrial environments.

Learning Graph-Enhanced Commander-Executor for Multi-Agent NavigationXinyi Yang, Shiyu Huang, Yiwen Sun et al.
This paper investigates the multi-agent navigation problem, which requires multiple agents to reach the target goals in a limited time. Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) has shown promising results for solving this issue. However, it is inefficient for MARL to directly explore the (nearly) optimal policy in the large search space, which is exacerbated as the agent number increases (e.g., 10+ agents) or the environment is more complex (e.g., 3D simulator). Goal-conditioned hierarchical reinforcement learning (HRL) provides a promising direction to tackle this challenge by introducing a hierarchical structure to decompose the search space, where the low-level policy predicts primitive actions in the guidance of the goals derived from the high-level policy. In this paper, we propose Multi-Agent Graph-Enhanced Commander-Executor (MAGE-X), a graph-based goal-conditioned hierarchical method for multi-agent navigation tasks. MAGE-X comprises a high-level Goal Commander and a low-level Action Executor. The Goal Commander predicts the probability distribution of goals and leverages them to assign each agent the most appropriate final target. The Action Executor utilizes graph neural networks (GNN) to construct a subgraph for each agent that only contains crucial partners to improve cooperation. Additionally, the Goal Encoder in the Action Executor captures the relationship between the agent and the designated goal to encourage the agent to reach the final target. The results show that MAGE-X outperforms the state-of-the-art MARL baselines with a 100% success rate with only 3 million training steps in multi-agent particle environments (MPE) with 50 agents, and at least a 12% higher success rate and 2x higher data efficiency in a more complicated quadrotor 3D navigation task.

Active Neural Topological Mapping for Multi-Agent ExplorationXinyi Yang, Yuxiang Yang, Chao Yu et al.
This paper investigates the multi-agent cooperative exploration problem, which requires multiple agents to explore an unseen environment via sensory signals in a limited time. A popular approach to exploration tasks is to combine active mapping with planning. Metric maps capture the details of the spatial representation, but are with high communication traffic and may vary significantly between scenarios, resulting in inferior generalization. Topological maps are a promising alternative as they consist only of nodes and edges with abstract but essential information and are less influenced by the scene structures. However, most existing topology-based exploration tasks utilize classical methods for planning, which are time-consuming and sub-optimal due to their handcrafted design. Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has shown great potential for learning (near) optimal policies through fast end-to-end inference. In this paper, we propose Multi-Agent Neural Topological Mapping (MANTM) to improve exploration efficiency and generalization for multi-agent exploration tasks. MANTM mainly comprises a Topological Mapper and a novel RL-based Hierarchical Topological Planner (HTP). The Topological Mapper employs a visual encoder and distance-based heuristics to construct a graph containing main nodes and their corresponding ghost nodes. The HTP leverages graph neural networks to capture correlations between agents and graph nodes in a coarse-to-fine manner for effective global goal selection. Extensive experiments conducted in a physically-realistic simulator, Habitat, demonstrate that MANTM reduces the steps by at least 26.40% over planning-based baselines and by at least 7.63% over RL-based competitors in unseen scenarios.

JOintGS: Joint Optimization of Cameras, Bodies and 3D Gaussians for In-the-Wild Monocular ReconstructionZihan Lou, Jinlong Fan, Sihan Ma et al.
Reconstructing high-fidelity animatable 3D human avatars from monocular RGB videos remains challenging, particularly in unconstrained in-the-wild scenarios where camera parameters and human poses from off-the-shelf methods (e.g., COLMAP, HMR2.0) are often inaccurate. Splatting (3DGS) advances demonstrate impressive rendering quality and real-time performance, they critically depend on precise camera calibration and pose annotations, limiting their applicability in real-world settings. We present JOintGS, a unified framework that jointly optimizes camera extrinsics, human poses, and 3D Gaussian representations from coarse initialization through a synergistic refinement mechanism. Our key insight is that explicit foreground-background disentanglement enables mutual reinforcement: static background Gaussians anchor camera estimation via multi-view consistency; refined cameras improve human body alignment through accurate temporal correspondence; optimized human poses enhance scene reconstruction by removing dynamic artifacts from static constraints. We further introduce a temporal dynamics module to capture fine-grained pose-dependent deformations and a residual color field to model illumination variations. Extensive experiments on NeuMan and EMDB datasets demonstrate that JOintGS achieves superior reconstruction quality, with 2.1~dB PSNR improvement over state-of-the-art methods on NeuMan dataset, while maintaining real-time rendering. Step-Video-T2V Technical Report: The Practice, Challenges, and Future of Video Foundation ModelGuoqing Ma, Haoyang Huang, Kun Yan et al.
We present Step-Video-T2V, a state-of-the-art text-to-video pre-trained model with 30B parameters and the ability to generate videos up to 204 frames in length. A deep compression Variational Autoencoder, Video-VAE, is designed for video generation tasks, achieving 16x16 spatial and 8x temporal compression ratios, while maintaining exceptional video reconstruction quality. User prompts are encoded using two bilingual text encoders to handle both English and Chinese. A DiT with 3D full attention is trained using Flow Matching and is employed to denoise input noise into latent frames. A video-based DPO approach, Video-DPO, is applied to reduce artifacts and improve the visual quality of the generated videos. We also detail our training strategies and share key observations and insights. Step-Video-T2V's performance is evaluated on a novel video generation benchmark, Step-Video-T2V-Eval, demonstrating its state-of-the-art text-to-video quality when compared with both open-source and commercial engines. Additionally, we discuss the limitations of current diffusion-based model paradigm and outline future directions for video foundation models. Step-Audio: Unified Understanding and Generation in Intelligent Speech InteractionAilin Huang, Boyong Wu, Bruce Wang et al.
Real-time speech interaction, serving as a fundamental interface for human-machine collaboration, holds immense potential. However, current open-source models face limitations such as high costs in voice data collection, weakness in dynamic control, and limited intelligence. To address these challenges, this paper introduces Step-Audio, the first production-ready open-source solution. Key contributions include: 1) a 130B-parameter unified speech-text multi-modal model that achieves unified understanding and generation, with the Step-Audio-Chat version open-sourced; 2) a generative speech data engine that establishes an affordable voice cloning framework and produces the open-sourced lightweight Step-Audio-TTS-3B model through distillation; 3) an instruction-driven fine control system enabling dynamic adjustments across dialects, emotions, singing, and RAP; 4) an enhanced cognitive architecture augmented with tool calling and role-playing abilities to manage complex tasks effectively. Based on our new StepEval-Audio-360 evaluation benchmark, Step-Audio achieves state-of-the-art performance in human evaluations, especially in terms of instruction following. This paper presents Step-Audio 2, an end-to-end multi-modal large language model designed for industry-strength audio understanding and speech conversation. By integrating a latent audio encoder and reasoning-centric reinforcement learning (RL), Step-Audio 2 achieves promising performance in automatic speech recognition (ASR) and audio understanding. To facilitate genuine end-to-end speech conversation, Step-Audio 2 incorporates the generation of discrete audio tokens into language modeling, significantly enhancing its responsiveness to paralinguistic information such as speaking styles and emotions. To effectively leverage the rich textual and acoustic knowledge in real-world data, Step-Audio 2 integrates retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and is able to call external tools such as web search to mitigate hallucination and audio search to switch timbres. Trained on millions of hours of speech and audio data, Step-Audio 2 delivers intelligence and expressiveness across diverse conversational scenarios. Evaluation results demonstrate that Step-Audio 2 achieves state-of-the-art performance on various audio understanding and conversational benchmarks compared to other open-source and commercial solutions. BTMuda: A Bi-level Multi-source unsupervised domain adaptation framework for breast cancer diagnosisYuxiang Yang, Xinyi Zeng, Pinxian Zeng et al.
Deep learning has revolutionized the early detection of breast cancer, resulting in a significant decrease in mortality rates. However, difficulties in obtaining annotations and huge variations in distribution between training sets and real scenes have limited their clinical applications. To address these limitations, unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) methods have been used to transfer knowledge from one labeled source domain to the unlabeled target domain, yet these approaches suffer from severe domain shift issues and often ignore the potential benefits of leveraging multiple relevant sources in practical applications. To address these limitations, in this work, we construct a Three-Branch Mixed extractor and propose a Bi-level Multi-source unsupervised domain adaptation method called BTMuda for breast cancer diagnosis. Our method addresses the problems of domain shift by dividing domain shift issues into two levels: intra-domain and inter-domain. To reduce the intra-domain shift, we jointly train a CNN and a Transformer as two paths of a domain mixed feature extractor to obtain robust representations rich in both low-level local and high-level global information. As for the inter-domain shift, we redesign the Transformer delicately to a three-branch architecture with cross-attention and distillation, which learns domain-invariant representations from multiple domains. Besides, we introduce two alignment modules - one for feature alignment and one for classifier alignment - to improve the alignment process. Extensive experiments conducted on three public mammographic datasets demonstrate that our BTMuda outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Learning with Alignments: Tackling the Inter- and Intra-domain Shifts for Cross-multidomain Facial Expression RecognitionYuxiang Yang, Lu Wen, Xinyi Zeng et al.
Facial Expression Recognition (FER) holds significant importance in human-computer interactions. Existing cross-domain FER methods often transfer knowledge solely from a single labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain, neglecting the comprehensive information across multiple sources. Nevertheless, cross-multidomain FER (CMFER) is very challenging for (i) the inherent inter-domain shifts across multiple domains and (ii) the intra-domain shifts stemming from the ambiguous expressions and low inter-class distinctions. In this paper, we propose a novel Learning with Alignments CMFER framework, named LA-CMFER, to handle both inter- and intra-domain shifts. Specifically, LA-CMFER is constructed with a global branch and a local branch to extract features from the full images and local subtle expressions, respectively. Based on this, LA-CMFER presents a dual-level inter-domain alignment method to force the model to prioritize hard-to-align samples in knowledge transfer at a sample level while gradually generating a well-clustered feature space with the guidance of class attributes at a cluster level, thus narrowing the inter-domain shifts. To address the intra-domain shifts, LA-CMFER introduces a multi-view intra-domain alignment method with a multi-view clustering consistency constraint where a prediction similarity matrix is built to pursue consistency between the global and local views, thus refining pseudo labels and eliminating latent noise. Extensive experiments on six benchmark datasets have validated the superiority of our LA-CMFER.

APTv2: Benchmarking Animal Pose Estimation and Tracking with a Large-scale Dataset and BeyondYuxiang Yang, Yingqi Deng, Yufei Xu et al.
Animal Pose Estimation and Tracking (APT) is a critical task in detecting and monitoring the keypoints of animals across a series of video frames, which is essential for understanding animal behavior. Past works relating to animals have primarily focused on either animal tracking or single-frame animal pose estimation only, neglecting the integration of both aspects. The absence of comprehensive APT datasets inhibits the progression and evaluation of animal pose estimation and tracking methods based on videos, thereby constraining their real-world applications. To fill this gap, we introduce APTv2, the pioneering large-scale benchmark for animal pose estimation and tracking. APTv2 comprises 2,749 video clips filtered and collected from 30 distinct animal species. Each video clip includes 15 frames, culminating in a total of 41,235 frames. Following meticulous manual annotation and stringent verification, we provide high-quality keypoint and tracking annotations for a total of 84,611 animal instances, split into easy and hard subsets based on the number of instances that exists in the frame. With APTv2 as the foundation, we establish a simple baseline method named \posetrackmethodname and provide benchmarks for representative models across three tracks: (1) single-frame animal pose estimation track to evaluate both intra- and inter-domain transfer learning performance, (2) low-data transfer and generalization track to evaluate the inter-species domain generalization performance, and (3) animal pose tracking track. Our experimental results deliver key empirical insights, demonstrating that APTv2 serves as a valuable benchmark for animal pose estimation and tracking. It also presents new challenges and opportunities for future research. Human2LocoMan: Learning Versatile Quadrupedal Manipulation with Human PretrainingYaru Niu, Yunzhe Zhang, Mingyang Yu et al.
Quadrupedal robots have demonstrated impressive locomotion capabilities in complex environments, but equipping them with autonomous versatile manipulation skills in a scalable way remains a significant challenge. In this work, we introduce a cross-embodiment imitation learning system for quadrupedal manipulation, leveraging data collected from both humans and LocoMan, a quadruped equipped with multiple manipulation modes. Specifically, we develop a teleoperation and data collection pipeline, which unifies and modularizes the observation and action spaces of the human and the robot. To effectively leverage the collected data, we propose an efficient modularized architecture that supports co-training and pretraining on structured modality-aligned data across different embodiments. Additionally, we construct the first manipulation dataset for the LocoMan robot, covering various household tasks in both unimanual and bimanual modes, supplemented by a corresponding human dataset. We validate our system on six real-world manipulation tasks, where it achieves an average success rate improvement of 41.9% overall and 79.7% under out-of-distribution (OOD) settings compared to the baseline. Pretraining with human data contributes a 38.6% success rate improvement overall and 82.7% under OOD settings, enabling consistently better performance with only half the amount of robot data. InpaintHuman: Reconstructing Occluded Humans with Multi-Scale UV Mapping and Identity-Preserving Diffusion InpaintingJinlong Fan, Shanshan Zhao, Liang Zheng et al.
Reconstructing complete and animatable 3D human avatars from monocular videos remains challenging, particularly under severe occlusions. While 3D Gaussian Splatting has enabled photorealistic human rendering, existing methods struggle with incomplete observations, often producing corrupted geometry and temporal inconsistencies. We present InpaintHuman, a novel method for generating high-fidelity, complete, and animatable avatars from occluded monocular videos. Our approach introduces two key innovations: (i) a multi-scale UV-parameterized representation with hierarchical coarse-to-fine feature interpolation, enabling robust reconstruction of occluded regions while preserving geometric details; and (ii) an identity-preserving diffusion inpainting module that integrates textual inversion with semantic-conditioned guidance for subject-specific, temporally coherent completion. Unlike SDS-based methods, our approach employs direct pixel-level supervision to ensure identity fidelity. Experiments on synthetic benchmarks (PeopleSnapshot, ZJU-MoCap) and real-world scenarios (OcMotion) demonstrate competitive performance with consistent improvements in reconstruction quality across diverse poses and viewpoints.

OpenRoACH: A Durable Open-Source Hexapedal Platform with Onboard Robot Operating System (ROS)Liyu Wang, Yuxiang Yang, Gustavo Correa et al.
OpenRoACH is a 15-cm 200-gram self-contained hexapedal robot with an onboard single-board computer. To our knowledge, it is the smallest legged robot with the capability of running the Robot Operating System (ROS) onboard. The robot is fully open sourced, uses accessible materials and off-the-shelf electronic components, can be fabricated with benchtop fast-prototyping machines such as a laser cutter and a 3D printer, and can be assembled by one person within two hours. Its sensory capacity has been tested with gyroscopes, accelerometers, Beacon sensors, color vision sensors, linescan sensors and cameras. It is low-cost within \$150 including structure materials, motors, electronics, and a battery. The capabilities of OpenRoACH are demonstrated with multi-surface walking and running, 24-hour continuous walking burn-ins, carrying 200-gram dynamic payloads and 800-gram static payloads, and ROS control of steering based on camera feedback. Seal: Advancing Speech Language Models to be Few-Shot LearnersShuyu Lei, Lingen Liu, Jiaolong Yang et al.
Existing auto-regressive language models have demonstrated a remarkable capability to perform a new task with just a few examples in prompt, without requiring any additional training. In order to extend this capability to a multi-modal setting (i.e. speech and language), this paper introduces the Seal model, an abbreviation for speech language model. It incorporates a novel alignment method, in which Kullback-Leibler divergence loss is performed to train a projector that bridges a frozen speech encoder with a frozen language model decoder. The resulting Seal model exhibits robust performance as a few-shot learner on two speech understanding tasks. Additionally, consistency experiments are conducted to validate its robustness on different pre-trained language models.

Step-3 is Large yet Affordable: Model-system Co-design for Cost-effective DecodingStepFun, Bin Wang, Bojun Wang et al.
Large language models (LLMs) face low hardware efficiency during decoding, especially for long-context reasoning tasks. This paper introduces Step-3, a 321B-parameter VLM with hardware-aware model-system co-design optimized for minimizing decoding costs. Step-3 innovates in two key dimensions: (1) A novel Multi-Matrix Factorization Attention (MFA) mechanism that significantly reduces both KV cache size and computation while maintaining high attention expressiveness, and (2) Attention-FFN Disaggregation (AFD), a distributed inference system that decouples attention and Feed-Forward Network (FFN) layers into specialized subsystems. This co-design achieves unprecedented cost efficiency: Step-3 significantly reduces theoretical decoding costs compared with models like DeepSeek-V3 and Qwen3 MoE 235B, with the gains widening at longer context. Step-3 achieves low cost while activating 38B parameters per token (more than DeepSeek-V3 and Qwen3 MoE 235B), demonstrating that hardware-aligned attention arithmetic intensity, MoE sparsity, and AFD are critical to cost-effectiveness. We perform a head-to-head comparison with DeepSeek-V3 in its favorable scenarios. Our implementation on Hopper GPUs achieves a decoding throughput of up to 4,039 tokens per second per GPU under 50ms TPOT SLA (4K context, FP8, no MTP). It is higher than DeepSeek-V3's 2,324 in the same setup and sets a new Pareto frontier for LLM decoding.

Learning Multi-Agent Loco-Manipulation for Long-Horizon Quadrupedal PushingYuming Feng, Chuye Hong, Yaru Niu et al.
Recently, quadrupedal locomotion has achieved significant success, but their manipulation capabilities, particularly in handling large objects, remain limited, restricting their usefulness in demanding real-world applications such as search and rescue, construction, industrial automation, and room organization. This paper tackles the task of obstacle-aware, long-horizon pushing by multiple quadrupedal robots. We propose a hierarchical multi-agent reinforcement learning framework with three levels of control. The high-level controller integrates an RRT planner and a centralized adaptive policy to generate subgoals, while the mid-level controller uses a decentralized goal-conditioned policy to guide the robots toward these sub-goals. A pre-trained low-level locomotion policy executes the movement commands. We evaluate our method against several baselines in simulation, demonstrating significant improvements over baseline approaches, with 36.0% higher success rates and 24.5% reduction in completion time than the best baseline. Our framework successfully enables long-horizon, obstacle-aware manipulation tasks like Push-Cuboid and Push-T on Go1 robots in the real world.

Step-Audio-AQAA: a Fully End-to-End Expressive Large Audio Language ModelAilin Huang, Bingxin Li, Bruce Wang et al.
Large Audio-Language Models (LALMs) have significantly advanced intelligent human-computer interaction, yet their reliance on text-based outputs limits their ability to generate natural speech responses directly, hindering seamless audio interactions. To address this, we introduce Step-Audio-AQAA, a fully end-to-end LALM designed for Audio Query-Audio Answer (AQAA) tasks. The model integrates a dual-codebook audio tokenizer for linguistic and semantic feature extraction, a 130-billion-parameter backbone LLM and a neural vocoder for high-fidelity speech synthesis. Our post-training approach employs interleaved token-output of text and audio to enhance semantic coherence and combines Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) with model merge to improve performance. Evaluations on the StepEval-Audio-360 benchmark demonstrate that Step-Audio-AQAA excels especially in speech control, outperforming the state-of-art LALMs in key areas. This work contributes a promising solution for end-to-end LALMs and highlights the critical role of token-based vocoder in enhancing overall performance for AQAA tasks.

Adaptive Prompt Learning with Negative Textual Semantics and Uncertainty Modeling for Universal Multi-Source Domain AdaptationYuxiang Yang, Lu Wen, Yuanyuan Xu et al.
Universal Multi-source Domain Adaptation (UniMDA) transfers knowledge from multiple labeled source domains to an unlabeled target domain under domain shifts (different data distribution) and class shifts (unknown target classes). Existing solutions focus on excavating image features to detect unknown samples, ignoring abundant information contained in textual semantics. In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Prompt learning with Negative textual semantics and uncErtainty modeling method based on Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (APNE-CLIP) for UniMDA classification tasks. Concretely, we utilize the CLIP with adaptive prompts to leverage textual information of class semantics and domain representations, helping the model identify unknown samples and address domain shifts. Additionally, we design a novel global instance-level alignment objective by utilizing negative textual semantics to achieve more precise image-text pair alignment. Furthermore, we propose an energy-based uncertainty modeling strategy to enlarge the margin distance between known and unknown samples. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method.

Invisible Adversaries: A Systematic Study of Session Manipulation Attacks on VPNsYuxiang Yang, Ao Wang, Xuewei Feng et al.
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are widely used for censorship evasion and traffic protection. VPN users expect to be provided with adequate security protection, and at the same time not be affected by other users connected to the same VPN server, which can be illustrated as the non-interference property. However, in this paper, we have identified several vulnerabilities that violate this property, specifically within the connection tracking frameworks of VPN servers, stemming from shared resource misuse and insufficient validation of session state transitions. We present three session manipulation attacks targeting TCP and UDP traffic tunneled through VPNs. The attacker who only connects to the same VPN server can launch denial-of-service attacks, hijack TCP connections of other clients, or inject forged DNS responses into their queries. We evaluate these attacks against five popular connection tracking frameworks across different OSes and nine major commercial VPN providers. Experimental results reveal that all frameworks and eight providers are vulnerable to at least one of the attacks. We have responsibly disclosed our findings with countermeasures, resulting in 19 assigned CVEs/CNVDs and acknowledgments from the communities and providers.

Advances in Radiance Field for Dynamic Scene: From Neural Field to Gaussian FieldJinlong Fan, Xuepu Zeng, Jing Zhang et al.
Dynamic scene representation and reconstruction have undergone transformative advances in recent years, catalyzed by breakthroughs in neural radiance fields and 3D Gaussian splatting techniques. While initially developed for static environments, these methodologies have rapidly evolved to address the complexities inherent in 4D dynamic scenes through an expansive body of research. Coupled with innovations in differentiable volumetric rendering, these approaches have significantly enhanced the quality of motion representation and dynamic scene reconstruction, thereby garnering substantial attention from the computer vision and graphics communities. This survey presents a systematic analysis of over 200 papers focused on dynamic scene representation using radiance field, spanning the spectrum from implicit neural representations to explicit Gaussian primitives. We categorize and evaluate these works through multiple critical lenses: motion representation paradigms, reconstruction techniques for varied scene dynamics, auxiliary information integration strategies, and regularization approaches that ensure temporal consistency and physical plausibility. We organize diverse methodological approaches under a unified representational framework, concluding with a critical examination of persistent challenges and promising research directions. By providing this comprehensive overview, we aim to establish a definitive reference for researchers entering this rapidly evolving field while offering experienced practitioners a systematic understanding of both conceptual principles and practical frontiers in dynamic scene reconstruction.

FMGS-Avatar: Mesh-Guided 2D Gaussian Splatting with Foundation Model Priors for 3D Monocular Avatar ReconstructionJinlong Fan, Bingyu Hu, Xingguang Li et al.
Reconstructing high-fidelity animatable human avatars from monocular videos remains challenging due to insufficient geometric information in single-view observations. While recent 3D Gaussian Splatting methods have shown promise, they struggle with surface detail preservation due to the free-form nature of 3D Gaussian primitives. To address both the representation limitations and information scarcity, we propose a novel method, \textbf{FMGS-Avatar}, that integrates two key innovations. First, we introduce Mesh-Guided 2D Gaussian Splatting, where 2D Gaussian primitives are attached directly to template mesh faces with constrained position, rotation, and movement, enabling superior surface alignment and geometric detail preservation. Second, we leverage foundation models trained on large-scale datasets, such as Sapiens, to complement the limited visual cues from monocular videos. However, when distilling multi-modal prior knowledge from foundation models, conflicting optimization objectives can emerge as different modalities exhibit distinct parameter sensitivities. We address this through a coordinated training strategy with selective gradient isolation, enabling each loss component to optimize its relevant parameters without interference. Through this combination of enhanced representation and coordinated information distillation, our approach significantly advances 3D monocular human avatar reconstruction. Experimental evaluation demonstrates superior reconstruction quality compared to existing methods, with notable gains in geometric accuracy and appearance fidelity while providing rich semantic information. Additionally, the distilled prior knowledge within a shared canonical space naturally enables spatially and temporally consistent rendering under novel views and poses.

QuietPaw: Learning Quadrupedal Locomotion with Versatile Noise Preference AlignmentYuyou Zhang, Yihang Yao, Shiqi Liu et al.
When operating at their full capacity, quadrupedal robots can produce loud footstep noise, which can be disruptive in human-centered environments like homes, offices, and hospitals. As a result, balancing locomotion performance with noise constraints is crucial for the successful real-world deployment of quadrupedal robots. However, achieving adaptive noise control is challenging due to (a) the trade-off between agility and noise minimization, (b) the need for generalization across diverse deployment conditions, and (c) the difficulty of effectively adjusting policies based on noise requirements. We propose QuietPaw, a framework incorporating our Conditional Noise-Constrained Policy (CNCP), a constrained learning-based algorithm that enables flexible, noise-aware locomotion by conditioning policy behavior on noise-reduction levels. We leverage value representation decomposition in the critics, disentangling state representations from condition-dependent representations and this allows a single versatile policy to generalize across noise levels without retraining while improving the Pareto trade-off between agility and noise reduction. We validate our approach in simulation and the real world, demonstrating that CNCP can effectively balance locomotion performance and noise constraints, achieving continuously adjustable noise reduction.

Fast and Efficient Locomotion via Learned Gait TransitionsYuxiang Yang, Tingnan Zhang, Erwin Coumans et al.
We focus on the problem of developing energy efficient controllers for quadrupedal robots. Animals can actively switch gaits at different speeds to lower their energy consumption. In this paper, we devise a hierarchical learning framework, in which distinctive locomotion gaits and natural gait transitions emerge automatically with a simple reward of energy minimization. We use evolutionary strategies (ES) to train a high-level gait policy that specifies gait patterns of each foot, while the low-level convex MPC controller optimizes the motor commands so that the robot can walk at a desired velocity using that gait pattern. We test our learning framework on a quadruped robot and demonstrate automatic gait transitions, from walking to trotting and to fly-trotting, as the robot increases its speed. We show that the learned hierarchical controller consumes much less energy across a wide range of locomotion speed than baseline controllers.

ES-ENAS: Efficient Evolutionary Optimization for Large Hybrid Search SpacesXingyou Song, Krzysztof Choromanski, Jack Parker-Holder et al.
In this paper, we approach the problem of optimizing blackbox functions over large hybrid search spaces consisting of both combinatorial and continuous parameters. We demonstrate that previous evolutionary algorithms which rely on mutation-based approaches, while flexible over combinatorial spaces, suffer from a curse of dimensionality in high dimensional continuous spaces both theoretically and empirically, which thus limits their scope over hybrid search spaces as well. In order to combat this curse, we propose ES-ENAS, a simple and modular joint optimization procedure combining the class of sample-efficient smoothed gradient techniques, commonly known as Evolutionary Strategies (ES), with combinatorial optimizers in a highly scalable and intuitive way, inspired by the one-shot or supernet paradigm introduced in Efficient Neural Architecture Search (ENAS). By doing so, we achieve significantly more sample efficiency, which we empirically demonstrate over synthetic benchmarks, and are further able to apply ES-ENAS for architecture search over popular RL benchmarks.

Rapidly Adaptable Legged Robots via Evolutionary Meta-LearningXingyou Song, Yuxiang Yang, Krzysztof Choromanski et al.
Learning adaptable policies is crucial for robots to operate autonomously in our complex and quickly changing world. In this work, we present a new meta-learning method that allows robots to quickly adapt to changes in dynamics. In contrast to gradient-based meta-learning algorithms that rely on second-order gradient estimation, we introduce a more noise-tolerant Batch Hill-Climbing adaptation operator and combine it with meta-learning based on evolutionary strategies. Our method significantly improves adaptation to changes in dynamics in high noise settings, which are common in robotics applications. We validate our approach on a quadruped robot that learns to walk while subject to changes in dynamics. We observe that our method significantly outperforms prior gradient-based approaches, enabling the robot to adapt its policy to changes based on less than 3 minutes of real data.

In the modern content-based image retrieval systems, there is an increasingly interest in constructing a computationally effective model to predict the interestingness of images since the measure of image interestingness could improve the human-centered search satisfaction and the user experience in different applications. In this paper, we propose a unified framework to predict the binary interestingness of images based on discriminant correlation analysis (DCA) and multiple kernel learning (MKL) techniques. More specially, on the one hand, to reduce feature redundancy in describing the interestingness cues of images, the DCA or multi-set discriminant correlation analysis (MDCA) technique is adopted to fuse multiple feature sets of the same type for individual cues by taking into account the class structure among the samples involved to describe the three classical interestingness cues, unusualness,aesthetics as well as general preferences, with three sets of compact and representative features; on the other hand, to make good use of the heterogeneity from the three sets of high-level features for describing the interestingness cues, the SimpleMKL method is employed to enhance the generalization ability of the built model for the task of the binary interestingness classification. Experimental results on the publicly-released interestingness prediction data set have demonstrated the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed framework in the binary prediction of image interestingness where we have conducted several groups of comparative studies across different interestingness feature combinations, different interestingness cues, as well as different feature types for the three interestingness cues.

We introduce ES-MAML, a new framework for solving the model agnostic meta learning (MAML) problem based on Evolution Strategies (ES). Existing algorithms for MAML are based on policy gradients, and incur significant difficulties when attempting to estimate second derivatives using backpropagation on stochastic policies. We show how ES can be applied to MAML to obtain an algorithm which avoids the problem of estimating second derivatives, and is also conceptually simple and easy to implement. Moreover, ES-MAML can handle new types of nonsmooth adaptation operators, and other techniques for improving performance and estimation of ES methods become applicable. We show empirically that ES-MAML is competitive with existing methods and often yields better adaptation with fewer queries.

Reinforcement Learning with Chromatic Networks for Compact Architecture SearchXingyou Song, Krzysztof Choromanski, Jack Parker-Holder et al.
We present a neural architecture search algorithm to construct compact reinforcement learning (RL) policies, by combining ENAS and ES in a highly scalable and intuitive way. By defining the combinatorial search space of NAS to be the set of different edge-partitionings (colorings) into same-weight classes, we represent compact architectures via efficient learned edge-partitionings. For several RL tasks, we manage to learn colorings translating to effective policies parameterized by as few as $17$ weight parameters, providing >90% compression over vanilla policies and 6x compression over state-of-the-art compact policies based on Toeplitz matrices, while still maintaining good reward. We believe that our work is one of the first attempts to propose a rigorous approach to training structured neural network architectures for RL problems that are of interest especially in mobile robotics with limited storage and computational resources.

Data Efficient Reinforcement Learning for Legged RobotsYuxiang Yang, Ken Caluwaerts, Atil Iscen et al.
We present a model-based framework for robot locomotion that achieves walking based on only 4.5 minutes (45,000 control steps) of data collected on a quadruped robot. To accurately model the robot's dynamics over a long horizon, we introduce a loss function that tracks the model's prediction over multiple timesteps. We adapt model predictive control to account for planning latency, which allows the learned model to be used for real time control. Additionally, to ensure safe exploration during model learning, we embed prior knowledge of leg trajectories into the action space. The resulting system achieves fast and robust locomotion. Unlike model-free methods, which optimize for a particular task, our planner can use the same learned dynamics for various tasks, simply by changing the reward function. To the best of our knowledge, our approach is more than an order of magnitude more sample efficient than current model-free methods.

Provably Robust Blackbox Optimization for Reinforcement LearningKrzysztof Choromanski, Aldo Pacchiano, Jack Parker-Holder et al.
Interest in derivative-free optimization (DFO) and "evolutionary strategies" (ES) has recently surged in the Reinforcement Learning (RL) community, with growing evidence that they can match state of the art methods for policy optimization problems in Robotics. However, it is well known that DFO methods suffer from prohibitively high sampling complexity. They can also be very sensitive to noisy rewards and stochastic dynamics. In this paper, we propose a new class of algorithms, called Robust Blackbox Optimization (RBO). Remarkably, even if up to $23\%$ of all the measurements are arbitrarily corrupted, RBO can provably recover gradients to high accuracy. RBO relies on learning gradient flows using robust regression methods to enable off-policy updates. On several MuJoCo robot control tasks, when all other RL approaches collapse in the presence of adversarial noise, RBO is able to train policies effectively. We also show that RBO can be applied to legged locomotion tasks including path tracking for quadruped robots.

NoRML: No-Reward Meta LearningYuxiang Yang, Ken Caluwaerts, Atil Iscen et al.
Efficiently adapting to new environments and changes in dynamics is critical for agents to successfully operate in the real world. Reinforcement learning (RL) based approaches typically rely on external reward feedback for adaptation. However, in many scenarios this reward signal might not be readily available for the target task, or the difference between the environments can be implicit and only observable from the dynamics. To this end, we introduce a method that allows for self-adaptation of learned policies: No-Reward Meta Learning (NoRML). NoRML extends Model Agnostic Meta Learning (MAML) for RL and uses observable dynamics of the environment instead of an explicit reward function in MAML's finetune step. Our method has a more expressive update step than MAML, while maintaining MAML's gradient based foundation. Additionally, in order to allow more targeted exploration, we implement an extension to MAML that effectively disconnects the meta-policy parameters from the fine-tuned policies' parameters. We first study our method on a number of synthetic control problems and then validate our method on common benchmark environments, showing that NoRML outperforms MAML when the dynamics change between tasks.

Deep Time-Frequency Representation and Progressive Decision Fusion for ECG ClassificationJing Zhang, Jing Tian, Yang Cao et al.
Early recognition of abnormal rhythms in ECG signals is crucial for monitoring and diagnosing patients' cardiac conditions, increasing the success rate of the treatment. Classifying abnormal rhythms into exact categories is very challenging due to the broad taxonomy of rhythms, noises and lack of large-scale real-world annotated data. Different from previous methods that utilize hand-crafted features or learn features from the original signal domain, we propose a novel ECG classification method by learning deep time-frequency representation and progressive decision fusion at different temporal scales in an end-to-end manner. First, the ECG wave signal is transformed into the time-frequency domain by using the Short-Time Fourier Transform. Next, several scale-specific deep convolutional neural networks are trained on ECG samples of a specific length. Finally, a progressive online decision fusion method is proposed to fuse decisions from the scale-specific models into a more accurate and stable one. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world ECG datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.
