3D-SSM: A Novel 3D Selective Scan Module for Remote Sensing Change DetectionRui Huang, Jincheng Zeng, Sen Gao et al.
Existing Mamba-based approaches in remote sensing change detection have enhanced scanning models, yet remain limited by their inability to capture long-range dependencies between image channels effectively, which restricts their feature representation capabilities. To address this limitation, we propose a 3D selective scan module (3D-SSM) that captures global information from both the spatial plane and channel perspectives, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of the data.Based on the 3D-SSM, we present two key components: a spatiotemporal interaction module (SIM) and a multi-branch feature extraction module (MBFEM). The SIM facilitates bi-temporal feature integration by enabling interactions between global and local features across images from different time points, thereby enhancing the detection of subtle changes. Meanwhile, the MBFEM combines features from the frequency domain, spatial domain, and 3D-SSM to provide a rich representation of contextual information within the image. Our proposed method demonstrates favourable performance compared to state-of-the-art change detection methods on five benchmark datasets through extensive experiments. Learning Camera Localization via Dense Scene MatchingShitao Tang, Chengzhou Tang, Rui Huang et al.
Camera localization aims to estimate 6 DoF camera poses from RGB images. Traditional methods detect and match interest points between a query image and a pre-built 3D model. Recent learning-based approaches encode scene structures into a specific convolutional neural network (CNN) and thus are able to predict dense coordinates from RGB images. However, most of them require re-training or re-adaption for a new scene and have difficulties in handling large-scale scenes due to limited network capacity. We present a new method for scene agnostic camera localization using dense scene matching (DSM), where a cost volume is constructed between a query image and a scene. The cost volume and the corresponding coordinates are processed by a CNN to predict dense coordinates. Camera poses can then be solved by PnP algorithms. In addition, our method can be extended to temporal domain, which leads to extra performance boost during testing time. Our scene-agnostic approach achieves comparable accuracy as the existing scene-specific approaches, such as KFNet, on the 7scenes and Cambridge benchmark. This approach also remarkably outperforms state-of-the-art scene-agnostic dense coordinate regression network SANet. The Code is available at https://github.com/Tangshitao/Dense-Scene-Matching.
Automatic Segmentation of Organs-at-Risk from Head-and-Neck CT using Separable Convolutional Neural Network with Hard-Region-Weighted LossWenhui Lei, Haochen Mei, Zhengwentai Sun et al.
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is a leading form of Head-and-Neck (HAN) cancer in the Arctic, China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East/North Africa. Accurate segmentation of Organs-at-Risk (OAR) from Computed Tomography (CT) images with uncertainty information is critical for effective planning of radiation therapy for NPC treatment. Despite the stateof-the-art performance achieved by Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for automatic segmentation of OARs, existing methods do not provide uncertainty estimation of the segmentation results for treatment planning, and their accuracy is still limited by several factors, including the low contrast of soft tissues in CT, highly imbalanced sizes of OARs and large inter-slice spacing. To address these problems, we propose a novel framework for accurate OAR segmentation with reliable uncertainty estimation. First, we propose a Segmental Linear Function (SLF) to transform the intensity of CT images to make multiple organs more distinguishable than existing methods based on a simple window width/level that often gives a better visibility of one organ while hiding the others. Second, to deal with the large inter-slice spacing, we introduce a novel 2.5D network (named as 3D-SepNet) specially designed for dealing with clinic HAN CT scans with anisotropic spacing. Thirdly, existing hardness-aware loss function often deal with class-level hardness, but our proposed attention to hard voxels (ATH) uses a voxel-level hardness strategy, which is more suitable to dealing with some hard regions despite that its corresponding class may be easy. Our code is now available at https://github.com/HiLab-git/SepNet.
Spy-Watermark: Robust Invisible Watermarking for Backdoor AttackRuofei Wang, Renjie Wan, Zongyu Guo et al.
Backdoor attack aims to deceive a victim model when facing backdoor instances while maintaining its performance on benign data. Current methods use manual patterns or special perturbations as triggers, while they often overlook the robustness against data corruption, making backdoor attacks easy to defend in practice. To address this issue, we propose a novel backdoor attack method named Spy-Watermark, which remains effective when facing data collapse and backdoor defense. Therein, we introduce a learnable watermark embedded in the latent domain of images, serving as the trigger. Then, we search for a watermark that can withstand collapse during image decoding, cooperating with several anti-collapse operations to further enhance the resilience of our trigger against data corruption. Extensive experiments are conducted on CIFAR10, GTSRB, and ImageNet datasets, demonstrating that Spy-Watermark overtakes ten state-of-the-art methods in terms of robustness and stealthiness.

Gaussian Difference: Find Any Change Instance in 3D ScenesBinbin Jiang, Rui Huang, Qingyi Zhao et al.
Instance-level change detection in 3D scenes presents significant challenges, particularly in uncontrolled environments lacking labeled image pairs, consistent camera poses, or uniform lighting conditions. This paper addresses these challenges by introducing a novel approach for detecting changes in real-world scenarios. Our method leverages 4D Gaussians to embed multiple images into Gaussian distributions, enabling the rendering of two coherent image sequences. We segment each image and assign unique identifiers to instances, facilitating efficient change detection through ID comparison. Additionally, we utilize change maps and classification encodings to categorize 4D Gaussians as changed or unchanged, allowing for the rendering of comprehensive change maps from any viewpoint. Extensive experiments across various instance-level change detection datasets demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art approaches like C-NERF and CYWS-3D, especially in scenarios with substantial lighting variations. Our approach offers improved detection accuracy, robustness to lighting changes, and efficient processing times, advancing the field of 3D change detection.
Domain Composition and Attention for Unseen-Domain Generalizable Medical Image SegmentationRan Gu, Jingyang Zhang, Rui Huang et al.
Domain generalizable model is attracting increasing attention in medical image analysis since data is commonly acquired from different institutes with various imaging protocols and scanners. To tackle this challenging domain generalization problem, we propose a Domain Composition and Attention-based network (DCA-Net) to improve the ability of domain representation and generalization. First, we present a domain composition method that represents one certain domain by a linear combination of a set of basis representations (i.e., a representation bank). Second, a novel plug-and-play parallel domain preceptor is proposed to learn these basis representations and we introduce a divergence constraint function to encourage the basis representations to be as divergent as possible. Then, a domain attention module is proposed to learn the linear combination coefficients of the basis representations. The result of linear combination is used to calibrate the feature maps of an input image, which enables the model to generalize to different and even unseen domains. We validate our method on public prostate MRI dataset acquired from six different institutions with apparent domain shift. Experimental results show that our proposed model can generalize well on different and even unseen domains and it outperforms state-of-the-art methods on the multi-domain prostate segmentation task.
FocusNetv2: Imbalanced Large and Small Organ Segmentation with Adversarial Shape Constraint for Head and Neck CT ImagesYunhe Gao, Rui Huang, Yiwei Yang et al.
Radiotherapy is a treatment where radiation is used to eliminate cancer cells. The delineation of organs-at-risk (OARs) is a vital step in radiotherapy treatment planning to avoid damage to healthy organs. For nasopharyngeal cancer, more than 20 OARs are needed to be precisely segmented in advance. The challenge of this task lies in complex anatomical structure, low-contrast organ contours, and the extremely imbalanced size between large and small organs. Common segmentation methods that treat them equally would generally lead to inaccurate small-organ labeling. We propose a novel two-stage deep neural network, FocusNetv2, to solve this challenging problem by automatically locating, ROI-pooling, and segmenting small organs with specifically designed small-organ localization and segmentation sub-networks while maintaining the accuracy of large organ segmentation. In addition to our original FocusNet, we employ a novel adversarial shape constraint on small organs to ensure the consistency between estimated small-organ shapes and organ shape prior knowledge. Our proposed framework is extensively tested on both self-collected dataset of 1,164 CT scans and the MICCAI Head and Neck Auto Segmentation Challenge 2015 dataset, which shows superior performance compared with state-of-the-art head and neck OAR segmentation methods.

AR Mapping: Accurate and Efficient Mapping for Augmented RealityRui Huang, Chuan Fang, Kejie Qiu et al.
Augmented reality (AR) has gained increasingly attention from both research and industry communities. By overlaying digital information and content onto the physical world, AR enables users to experience the world in a more informative and efficient manner. As a major building block for AR systems, localization aims at determining the device's pose from a pre-built "map" consisting of visual and depth information in a known environment. While the localization problem has been widely studied in the literature, the "map" for AR systems is rarely discussed. In this paper, we introduce the AR Map for a specific scene to be composed of 1) color images with 6-DOF poses; 2) dense depth maps for each image and 3) a complete point cloud map. We then propose an efficient end-to-end solution to generating and evaluating AR Maps. Firstly, for efficient data capture, a backpack scanning device is presented with a unified calibration pipeline. Secondly, we propose an AR mapping pipeline which takes the input from the scanning device and produces accurate AR Maps. Finally, we present an approach to evaluating the accuracy of AR Maps with the help of the highly accurate reconstruction result from a high-end laser scanner. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time to present an end-to-end solution to efficient and accurate mapping for AR applications.

Compact 3D Map-Based Monocular Localization Using Semantic Edge AlignmentKejie Qiu, Shenzhou Chen, Jiahui Zhang et al.
Accurate localization is fundamental to a variety of applications, such as navigation, robotics, autonomous driving, and Augmented Reality (AR). Different from incremental localization, global localization has no drift caused by error accumulation, which is desired in many application scenarios. In addition to GPS used in the open air, 3D maps are also widely used as alternative global localization references. In this paper, we propose a compact 3D map-based global localization system using a low-cost monocular camera and an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). The proposed compact map consists of two types of simplified elements with multiple semantic labels, which is well adaptive to various man-made environments like urban environments. Also, semantic edge features are used for the key image-map registration, which is robust against occlusion and long-term appearance changes in the environments. To further improve the localization performance, the key semantic edge alignment is formulated as an optimization problem based on initial poses predicted by an independent VIO (Visual-Inertial Odometry) module. The localization system is realized with modular design in real time. We evaluate the localization accuracy through real-world experimental results compared with ground truth, long-term localization performance is also demonstrated.

How Effectively Can Indoor Wireless Positioning Relieve Visual Tracking Pains: A Camera-Rao Bound ViewpointPanwen Hu, Zizheng Yan, Rui Huang et al.
Visual tracking is fragile in some difficult scenarios, for instance, appearance ambiguity and variation, occlusion can easily degrade most of visual trackers to some extent. In this paper, visual tracking is empowered with wireless positioning to achieve high accuracy while maintaining robustness. Fundamentally different from the previous works, this study does not involve any specific wireless positioning algorithms. Instead, we use the confidence region derived from the wireless positioning Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) as the search region of visual trackers. The proposed framework is low-cost and very simple to implement, yet readily leads to enhanced and robustified visual tracking performance in difficult scenarios as corroborated by our experimental results. Most importantly, it is utmost valuable for the practioners to pre-evaluate how effectively can the wireless resources available at hand alleviate the visual tracking pains.

Active Image-based Modeling with a Toy DroneRui Huang, Danping Zou, Richard Vaughan et al.
Image-based modeling techniques can now generate photo-realistic 3D models from images. But it is up to users to provide high quality images with good coverage and view overlap, which makes the data capturing process tedious and time consuming. We seek to automate data capturing for image-based modeling. The core of our system is an iterative linear method to solve the multi-view stereo (MVS) problem quickly and plan the Next-Best-View (NBV) effectively. Our fast MVS algorithm enables online model reconstruction and quality assessment to determine the NBVs on the fly. We test our system with a toy unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in simulated, indoor and outdoor experiments. Results show that our system improves the efficiency of data acquisition and ensures the completeness of the final model.
