SurgicalSAM: Efficient Class Promptable Surgical Instrument Segmentation

The Segment Anything Model (SAM) is a powerful foundation model that has revolutionised image segmentation. To apply SAM to surgical instrument segmentation, a common approach is to locate precise points or boxes of instruments and then use them as prompts for SAM in a zero-shot manner. However, we observe two problems with this naive pipeline: (1) the domain gap between natural objects and surgical instruments leads to inferior generalisation of SAM; and (2) SAM relies on precise point or box locations for accurate segmentation, requiring either extensive manual guidance or a well-performing specialist detector for prompt preparation, which leads to a complex multi-stage pipeline. To address these problems, we introduce SurgicalSAM, a novel end-to-end efficient-tuning approach for SAM to effectively integrate surgical-specific information with SAM's pre-trained knowledge for improved generalisation. Specifically, we propose a lightweight prototype-based class prompt encoder for tuning, which directly generates prompt embeddings from class prototypes and eliminates the use of explicit prompts for improved robustness and a simpler pipeline. In addition, to address the low inter-class variance among surgical instrument categories, we propose contrastive prototype learning, further enhancing the discrimination of the class prototypes for more accurate class prompting. The results of extensive experiments on both EndoVis2018 and EndoVis2017 datasets demonstrate that SurgicalSAM achieves state-of-the-art performance while only requiring a small number of tunable parameters. SRENet: Spectral Re-Entry Network for Point Cloud Action Recognition

Recognizing human actions from point cloud sequences is critical for 3D perception driven applications such as autonomous driving and human-computer interaction. However, the irregular structure and temporal inconsistency of point clouds pose unique challenges for spatio-temporal representation learning, especially in capturing both global motion context and fine-grained temporal dynamics. We propose SRENet, a spectral-aware framework designed to explicitly learn both global context and fine-grained temporal dynamics of motion from a frequency perspective for action recognition. SRENet introduces a Spectral Decomposition Block (SDeBlock) that performs wavelet-based analysis along temporal and spatial axes, disentangling features into low- and high-frequency components with frequency-specific attention. To recover residual dynamics and re-align temporal frequency structures distorted during semantic fusion, a Spectral Re-entry Block (SReBlock) performs secondary temporal decomposition. Furthermore, a spectral-aware learning strategy is devised to enhance discriminability in both frequency subspaces via contrastive loss and a curriculum schedule that gradually shifts focus from low- to high-frequency spaces in line with coarse to detailed motion patterns. Extensive experiments on MSR-Action3D, NTU-RGBD and NTU-RGBD120 demonstrate that SRENet achieves state-of-the-art performance, validating the effectiveness of frequency modeling in point cloud-based action understanding.

TLDW: Extreme Multimodal Summarisation of News Videos

Multimodal summarisation with multimodal output is drawing increasing attention due to the rapid growth of multimedia data. While several methods have been proposed to summarise visual-text contents, their multimodal outputs are not succinct enough at an extreme level to address the information overload issue. To the end of extreme multimodal summarisation, we introduce a new task, eXtreme Multimodal Summarisation with Multimodal Output (XMSMO) for the scenario of TL;DW - Too Long; Didn't Watch, akin to TL;DR. XMSMO aims to summarise a video-document pair into a summary with an extremely short length, which consists of one cover frame as the visual summary and one sentence as the textual summary. We propose a novel unsupervised Hierarchical Optimal Transport Network (HOT-Net) consisting of three components: hierarchical multimodal encoders, hierarchical multimodal fusion decoders, and optimal transport solvers. Our method is trained, without using reference summaries, by optimising the visual and textual coverage from the perspectives of the distance between the semantic distributions under optimal transport plans. To facilitate the study on this task, we collect a large-scale dataset XMSMO-News by harvesting 4,891 video-document pairs. The experimental results show that our method achieves promising performance in terms of ROUGE and IoU metrics.

Multi-Scale Control Signal-Aware Transformer for Motion Synthesis without Phase

Synthesizing controllable motion for a character using deep learning has been a promising approach due to its potential to learn a compact model without laborious feature engineering. To produce dynamic motion from weak control signals such as desired paths, existing methods often require auxiliary information such as phases for alleviating motion ambiguity, which limits their generalisation capability. As past poses often contain useful auxiliary hints, in this paper, we propose a task-agnostic deep learning method, namely Multi-scale Control Signal-aware Transformer (MCS-T), with an attention based encoder-decoder architecture to discover the auxiliary information implicitly for synthesizing controllable motion without explicitly requiring auxiliary information such as phase. Specifically, an encoder is devised to adaptively formulate the motion patterns of a character's past poses with multi-scale skeletons, and a decoder driven by control signals to further synthesize and predict the character's state by paying context-specialised attention to the encoded past motion patterns. As a result, it helps alleviate the issues of low responsiveness and slow transition which often happen in conventional methods not using auxiliary information. Both qualitative and quantitative experimental results on an existing biped locomotion dataset, which involves diverse types of motion transitions, demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. In particular, MCS-T is able to successfully generate motions comparable to those generated by the methods using auxiliary information.

Multi-level Adversarial Spatio-temporal Learning for Footstep Pressure based FoG Detection

Freezing of gait (FoG) is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson's disease, which is a neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system impacting millions of people around the world. To address the pressing need to improve the quality of treatment for FoG, devising a computer-aided detection and quantification tool for FoG has been increasingly important. As a non-invasive technique for collecting motion patterns, the footstep pressure sequences obtained from pressure sensitive gait mats provide a great opportunity for evaluating FoG in the clinic and potentially in the home environment. In this study, FoG detection is formulated as a sequential modelling task and a novel deep learning architecture, namely Adversarial Spatio-temporal Network (ASTN), is proposed to learn FoG patterns across multiple levels. A novel adversarial training scheme is introduced with a multi-level subject discriminator to obtain subject-independent FoG representations, which helps to reduce the over-fitting risk due to the high inter-subject variance. As a result, robust FoG detection can be achieved for unseen subjects. The proposed scheme also sheds light on improving subject-level clinical studies from other scenarios as it can be integrated with many existing deep architectures. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first studies of footstep pressure-based FoG detection and the approach of utilizing ASTN is the first deep neural network architecture in pursuit of subject-independent representations. Experimental results on 393 trials collected from 21 subjects demonstrate encouraging performance of the proposed ASTN for FoG detection with an AUC 0.85.

SITransformer: Shared Information-Guided Transformer for Extreme Multimodal Summarization

Extreme Multimodal Summarization with Multimodal Output (XMSMO) becomes an attractive summarization approach by integrating various types of information to create extremely concise yet informative summaries for individual modalities. Existing methods overlook the issue that multimodal data often contains more topic irrelevant information, which can mislead the model into producing inaccurate summaries especially for extremely short ones. In this paper, we propose SITransformer, a Shared Information-guided Transformer for extreme multimodal summarization. It has a shared information guided pipeline which involves a cross-modal shared information extractor and a cross-modal interaction module. The extractor formulates semantically shared salient information from different modalities by devising a novel filtering process consisting of a differentiable top-k selector and a shared-information guided gating unit. As a result, the common, salient, and relevant contents across modalities are identified. Next, a transformer with cross-modal attentions is developed for intra- and inter-modality learning with the shared information guidance to produce the extreme summary. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that SITransformer significantly enhances the summarization quality for both video and text summaries for XMSMO. Continuous Intermediate Token Learning with Implicit Motion Manifold for Keyframe Based Motion Interpolation

Deriving sophisticated 3D motions from sparse keyframes is a particularly challenging problem, due to continuity and exceptionally skeletal precision. The action features are often derivable accurately from the full series of keyframes, and thus, leveraging the global context with transformers has been a promising data-driven embedding approach. However, existing methods are often with inputs of interpolated intermediate frame for continuity using basic interpolation methods with keyframes, which result in a trivial local minimum during training. In this paper, we propose a novel framework to formulate latent motion manifolds with keyframe-based constraints, from which the continuous nature of intermediate token representations is considered. Particularly, our proposed framework consists of two stages for identifying a latent motion subspace, i.e., a keyframe encoding stage and an intermediate token generation stage, and a subsequent motion synthesis stage to extrapolate and compose motion data from manifolds. Through our extensive experiments conducted on both the LaFAN1 and CMU Mocap datasets, our proposed method demonstrates both superior interpolation accuracy and high visual similarity to ground truth motions.

RI-MAE: Rotation-Invariant Masked AutoEncoders for Self-Supervised Point Cloud Representation Learning

Masked point modeling methods have recently achieved great success in self-supervised learning for point cloud data. However, these methods are sensitive to rotations and often exhibit sharp performance drops when encountering rotational variations. In this paper, we propose a novel Rotation-Invariant Masked AutoEncoders (RI-MAE) to address two major challenges: 1) achieving rotation-invariant latent representations, and 2) facilitating self-supervised reconstruction in a rotation-invariant manner. For the first challenge, we introduce RI-Transformer, which features disentangled geometry content, rotation-invariant relative orientation and position embedding mechanisms for constructing rotation-invariant point cloud latent space. For the second challenge, a novel dual-branch student-teacher architecture is devised. It enables the self-supervised learning via the reconstruction of masked patches within the learned rotation-invariant latent space. Each branch is based on an RI-Transformer, and they are connected with an additional RI-Transformer predictor. The teacher encodes all point patches, while the student solely encodes unmasked ones. Finally, the predictor predicts the latent features of the masked patches using the output latent embeddings from the student, supervised by the outputs from the teacher. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method is robust to rotations, achieving the state-of-the-art performance on various downstream tasks. Autoregressive Omni-Aware Outpainting for Open-Vocabulary 360-Degree Image Generation

A 360-degree (omni-directional) image provides an all-encompassing spherical view of a scene. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in synthesising 360-degree images from conventional narrow field of view (NFoV) images captured by digital cameras and smartphones, for providing immersive experiences in various scenarios such as virtual reality. Yet, existing methods typically fall short in synthesizing intricate visual details or ensure the generated images align consistently with user-provided prompts. In this study, autoregressive omni-aware generative network (AOG-Net) is proposed for 360-degree image generation by out-painting an incomplete 360-degree image progressively with NFoV and text guidances joinly or individually. This autoregressive scheme not only allows for deriving finer-grained and text-consistent patterns by dynamically generating and adjusting the process but also offers users greater flexibility to edit their conditions throughout the generation process. A global-local conditioning mechanism is devised to comprehensively formulate the outpainting guidance in each autoregressive step. Text guidances, omni-visual cues, NFoV inputs and omni-geometry are encoded and further formulated with cross-attention based transformers into a global stream and a local stream into a conditioned generative backbone model. As AOG-Net is compatible to leverage large-scale models for the conditional encoder and the generative prior, it enables the generation to use extensive open-vocabulary text guidances. Comprehensive experiments on two commonly used 360-degree image datasets for both indoor and outdoor settings demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our proposed method. Robust Audio Anti-Spoofing with Fusion-Reconstruction Learning on Multi-Order Spectrograms

Robust audio anti-spoofing has been increasingly challenging due to the recent advancements on deepfake techniques. While spectrograms have demonstrated their capability for anti-spoofing, complementary information presented in multi-order spectral patterns have not been well explored, which limits their effectiveness for varying spoofing attacks. Therefore, we propose a novel deep learning method with a spectral fusion-reconstruction strategy, namely S2pecNet, to utilise multi-order spectral patterns for robust audio anti-spoofing representations. Specifically, spectral patterns up to second-order are fused in a coarse-to-fine manner and two branches are designed for the fine-level fusion from the spectral and temporal contexts. A reconstruction from the fused representation to the input spectrograms further reduces the potential fused information loss. Our method achieved the state-of-the-art performance with an EER of 0.77% on a widely used dataset: ASVspoof2019 LA Challenge.

Radio Frequency Signal based Human Silhouette Segmentation: A Sequential Diffusion Approach

Radio frequency (RF) signals have been proved to be flexible for human silhouette segmentation (HSS) under complex environments. Existing studies are mainly based on a one-shot approach, which lacks a coherent projection ability from the RF domain. Additionally, the spatio-temporal patterns have not been fully explored for human motion dynamics in HSS. Therefore, we propose a two-stage Sequential Diffusion Model (SDM) to progressively synthesize high-quality segmentation jointly with the considerations on motion dynamics. Cross-view transformation blocks are devised to guide the diffusion model in a multi-scale manner for comprehensively characterizing human related patterns in an individual frame such as directional projection from signal planes. Moreover, spatio-temporal blocks are devised to fine-tune the frame-level model to incorporate spatio-temporal contexts and motion dynamics, enhancing the consistency of the segmentation maps. Comprehensive experiments on a public benchmark -- HIBER demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our method with an IoU 0.732. Our code is available at https://github.com/ph-w2000/SDM.

OTExtSum: Extractive Text Summarisation with Optimal Transport

Extractive text summarisation aims to select salient sentences from a document to form a short yet informative summary. While learning-based methods have achieved promising results, they have several limitations, such as dependence on expensive training and lack of interpretability. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel non-learning-based method by for the first time formulating text summarisation as an Optimal Transport (OT) problem, namely Optimal Transport Extractive Summariser (OTExtSum). Optimal sentence extraction is conceptualised as obtaining an optimal summary that minimises the transportation cost to a given document regarding their semantic distributions. Such a cost is defined by the Wasserstein distance and used to measure the summary's semantic coverage of the original document. Comprehensive experiments on four challenging and widely used datasets - MultiNews, PubMed, BillSum, and CNN/DM demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art non-learning-based methods and several recent learning-based methods in terms of the ROUGE metric.

To accelerate the research on AI security, the Artificial Intelligence Security Competition (AISC) was organized by the Zhongguancun Laboratory, China Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team, Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Tsinghua University, and RealAI as part of the Zhongguancun International Frontier Technology Innovation Competition (https://www.zgc-aisc.com/en). The competition consists of three tracks, including Deepfake Security Competition, Autonomous Driving Security Competition, and Face Recognition Security Competition. This report will introduce the competition rules of these three tracks and the solutions of top-ranking teams in each track.

Robust Knowledge Adaptation for Federated Unsupervised Person ReID

Person Re-identification (ReID) has been extensively studied in recent years due to the increasing demand in public security. However, collecting and dealing with sensitive personal data raises privacy concerns. Therefore, federated learning has been explored for Person ReID, which aims to share minimal sensitive data between different parties (clients). However, existing federated learning based person ReID methods generally rely on laborious and time-consuming data annotations and it is difficult to guarantee cross-domain consistency. Thus, in this work, a federated unsupervised cluster-contrastive (FedUCC) learning method is proposed for Person ReID. FedUCC introduces a three-stage modelling strategy following a coarse-to-fine manner. In detail, generic knowledge, specialized knowledge and patch knowledge are discovered using a deep neural network. This enables the sharing of mutual knowledge among clients while retaining local domain-specific knowledge based on the kinds of network layers and their parameters. Comprehensive experiments on 8 public benchmark datasets demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our proposed method.

Terrain Diffusion Network: Climatic-Aware Terrain Generation with Geological Sketch Guidance

Sketch-based terrain generation seeks to create realistic landscapes for virtual environments in various applications such as computer games, animation and virtual reality. Recently, deep learning based terrain generation has emerged, notably the ones based on generative adversarial networks (GAN). However, these methods often struggle to fulfill the requirements of flexible user control and maintain generative diversity for realistic terrain. Therefore, we propose a novel diffusion-based method, namely terrain diffusion network (TDN), which actively incorporates user guidance for enhanced controllability, taking into account terrain features like rivers, ridges, basins, and peaks. Instead of adhering to a conventional monolithic denoising process, which often compromises the fidelity of terrain details or the alignment with user control, a multi-level denoising scheme is proposed to generate more realistic terrains by taking into account fine-grained details, particularly those related to climatic patterns influenced by erosion and tectonic activities. Specifically, three terrain synthesisers are designed for structural, intermediate, and fine-grained level denoising purposes, which allow each synthesiser concentrate on a distinct terrain aspect. Moreover, to maximise the efficiency of our TDN, we further introduce terrain and sketch latent spaces for the synthesizers with pre-trained terrain autoencoders. Comprehensive experiments on a new dataset constructed from NASA Topology Images clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving the state-of-the-art performance. M2-Net: Multi-stages Specular Highlight Detection and Removal in Multi-scenes

In this paper, we propose a novel uniformity framework for highlight detection and removal in multi-scenes, including synthetic images, face images, natural images, and text images. The framework consists of three main components, highlight feature extractor module, highlight coarse removal module, and highlight refine removal module. Firstly, the highlight feature extractor module can directly separate the highlight feature and non-highlight feature from the original highlight image. Then highlight removal image is obtained using a coarse highlight removal network. To further improve the highlight removal effect, the refined highlight removal image is finally obtained using refine highlight removal module based on contextual highlight attention mechanisms. Extensive experimental results in multiple scenes indicate that the proposed framework can obtain excellent visual effects of highlight removal and achieve state-of-the-art results in several quantitative evaluation metrics. Our algorithm is applied for the first time in video highlight removal with promising results.

PhenoYieldNet: Learning Crop-Aware Phenological Responses for Multi-Crop Yield Prediction

Accurate crop yield prediction is crucial for sustainable agriculture and global food security. While existing methods are predominantly developed for single-crop prediction, they often struggle to generalize across diverse crop types, without addressing the unique crop phenological responses that are dynamically modulated by complex weather patterns. In this paper, we propose PhenoYieldNet, a multi-crop yield prediction framework that learns crop-specific phenology by explicitly modeling their responses with temporal drivers. Specifically, we develop a crop-aware temporal decoder consisting of a Crop Phenology Bank (CPB) and a Crop Phenology Attention (CPA) module. The CPB integrates a set of learnable embeddings, which leverage a query to guide the CPA module to learn the most relevant phenology patterns for the specific crop. And the CPA module explicitly captures multi-scale trend and variation components to construct temporal contexts, enabling the model to dynamically adjust the attention across different phenological stages. To learn robust and generalizable features for multi-crop prediction, the encoder is initialized with a pre-trained foundation model, and further adapted via a self-supervised Temporal Contrastive Adaptation strategy to align with agricultural temporal dynamics. Extensive experiments conducted on multi-crop datasets indicate that our proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods, exhibiting strong generalization capabilities across different regions and crops.

Benchmark^2: Systematic Evaluation of LLM Benchmarks

The rapid proliferation of benchmarks for evaluating large language models (LLMs) has created an urgent need for systematic methods to assess benchmark quality itself. We propose Benchmark^2, a comprehensive framework comprising three complementary metrics: (1) Cross-Benchmark Ranking Consistency, measuring whether a benchmark produces model rankings aligned with peer benchmarks; (2) Discriminability Score, quantifying a benchmark's ability to differentiate between models; and (3) Capability Alignment Deviation, identifying problematic instances where stronger models fail but weaker models succeed within the same model family. We conduct extensive experiments across 15 benchmarks spanning mathematics, reasoning, and knowledge domains, evaluating 11 LLMs across four model families. Our analysis reveals significant quality variations among existing benchmarks and demonstrates that selective benchmark construction based on our metrics can achieve comparable evaluation performance with substantially reduced test sets.

SurgicalPart-SAM: Part-to-Whole Collaborative Prompting for Surgical Instrument Segmentation

The Segment Anything Model (SAM) exhibits promise in generic object segmentation and offers potential for various applications. Existing methods have applied SAM to surgical instrument segmentation (SIS) by tuning SAM-based frameworks with surgical data. However, they fall short in two crucial aspects: (1) Straightforward model tuning with instrument masks treats each instrument as a single entity, neglecting their complex structures and fine-grained details; and (2) Instrument category-based prompts are not flexible and informative enough to describe instrument structures. To address these problems, in this paper, we investigate text promptable SIS and propose SurgicalPart-SAM (SP-SAM), a novel SAM efficient-tuning approach that explicitly integrates instrument structure knowledge with SAM's generic knowledge, guided by expert knowledge on instrument part compositions. Specifically, we achieve this by proposing (1) Collaborative Prompts that describe instrument structures via collaborating category-level and part-level texts; (2) Cross-Modal Prompt Encoder that encodes text prompts jointly with visual embeddings into discriminative part-level representations; and (3) Part-to-Whole Adaptive Fusion and Hierarchical Decoding that adaptively fuse the part-level representations into a whole for accurate instrument segmentation in surgical scenarios. Built upon them, SP-SAM acquires a better capability to comprehend surgical instruments in terms of both overall structure and part-level details. Extensive experiments on both the EndoVis2018 and EndoVis2017 datasets demonstrate SP-SAM's state-of-the-art performance with minimal tunable parameters. B-VLLM: A Vision Large Language Model with Balanced Spatio-Temporal Tokens

Recently, Vision Large Language Models (VLLMs) integrated with vision encoders have shown promising performance in vision understanding. The key of VLLMs is to encode visual content into sequences of visual tokens, enabling VLLMs to simultaneously process both visual and textual content. However, understanding videos, especially long videos, remain a challenge to VLLMs as the number of visual tokens grows rapidly when encoding videos, resulting in the risk of exceeding the context window of VLLMs and introducing heavy computation burden. To restrict the number of visual tokens, existing VLLMs either: (1) uniformly downsample videos into a fixed number of frames or (2) reducing the number of visual tokens encoded from each frame. We argue the former solution neglects the rich temporal cue in videos and the later overlooks the spatial details in each frame. In this work, we present Balanced-VLLM (B-VLLM): a novel VLLM framework that aims to effectively leverage task relevant spatio-temporal cues while restricting the number of visual tokens under the VLLM context window length. At the core of our method, we devise a text-conditioned adaptive frame selection module to identify frames relevant to the visual understanding task. The selected frames are then de-duplicated using a temporal frame token merging technique. The visual tokens of the selected frames are processed through a spatial token sampling module and an optional spatial token merging strategy to achieve precise control over the token count. Experimental results show that B-VLLM is effective in balancing the number of frames and visual tokens in video understanding, yielding superior performance on various video understanding benchmarks. F2Net: A Frequency-Fused Network for Ultra-High Resolution Remote Sensing Segmentation

Semantic segmentation of ultra-high-resolution (UHR) remote sensing imagery is critical for applications like environmental monitoring and urban planning but faces computational and optimization challenges. Conventional methods either lose fine details through downsampling or fragment global context via patch processing. While multi-branch networks address this trade-off, they suffer from computational inefficiency and conflicting gradient dynamics during training. We propose F2Net, a frequency-aware framework that decomposes UHR images into high- and low-frequency components for specialized processing. The high-frequency branch preserves full-resolution structural details, while the low-frequency branch processes downsampled inputs through dual sub-branches capturing short- and long-range dependencies. A Hybrid-Frequency Fusion module integrates these observations, guided by two novel objectives: Cross-Frequency Alignment Loss ensures semantic consistency between frequency components, and Cross-Frequency Balance Loss regulates gradient magnitudes across branches to stabilize training. Evaluated on DeepGlobe and Inria Aerial benchmarks, F2Net achieves state-of-the-art performance with mIoU of 80.22 and 83.39, respectively. Our code will be publicly available.

Stable Attention Response for Reliable Precipitation Nowcasting

Precipitation nowcasting remains challenging due to the highly localized, rapidly evolving, and heterogeneous nature of atmospheric dynamics. Although recent methods increasingly adopt attention-based architectures in both unimodal and multimodal settings, they mainly emphasize stronger representation learning and prediction capacity, while paying less attention to the stability of attention responses across samples. In this work, we show that cross-sample instability of attention-response energy is an important and previously underexplored source of forecasting unreliability. Empirically, inaccurate forecasts are associated with larger attention-response energy variance across heads and layers. Theoretically, we show that cross-sample variability can propagate through self-attention, and enlarge a lower bound on prediction error. Based on this insight, we propose HARECast, a Head-wise Attention Response Energy-regulated framework for precipitation nowcasting. HARECast explicitly models head-wise attention-response energy and stabilizes it through a group-wise regularization objective that reduces cross-sample fluctuations. The proposed formulation is generic and applicable to both unimodal and multimodal nowcasting architectures. We instantiate HARECast in a standard forecasting pipeline with reconstruction branches and a diffusion-based predictor, and evaluate it on commonly used benchmarks--SEVIR and MeteoNet. Experimental results demonstrate that HARECast achieves state-of-the-art performance.

CABTO: Context-Aware Behavior Tree Grounding for Robot Manipulation

Behavior Trees (BTs) offer a powerful paradigm for designing modular and reactive robot controllers. BT planning, an emerging field, provides theoretical guarantees for the automated generation of reliable BTs. However, BT planning typically assumes that a well-designed BT system is already grounded -- comprising high-level action models and low-level control policies -- which often requires extensive expert knowledge and manual effort. In this paper, we formalize the BT Grounding problem: the automated construction of a complete and consistent BT system. We analyze its complexity and introduce CABTO (Context-Aware Behavior Tree grOunding), the first framework to efficiently solve this challenge. CABTO leverages pre-trained Large Models (LMs) to heuristically search the space of action models and control policies, guided by contextual feedback from BT planners and environmental observations. Experiments spanning seven task sets across three distinct robotic manipulation scenarios demonstrate CABTO's effectiveness and efficiency in generating complete and consistent behavior tree systems.

Pb4U-GNet: Resolution-Adaptive Garment Simulation via Propagation-before-Update Graph Network

Garment simulation is fundamental to various applications in computer vision and graphics, from virtual try-on to digital human modelling. However, conventional physics-based methods remain computationally expensive, hindering their application in time-sensitive scenarios. While graph neural networks (GNNs) offer promising acceleration, existing approaches exhibit poor cross-resolution generalisation, demonstrating significant performance degradation on higher-resolution meshes beyond the training distribution. This stems from two key factors: (1) existing GNNs employ fixed message-passing depth that fails to adapt information aggregation to mesh density variation, and (2) vertex-wise displacement magnitudes are inherently resolution-dependent in garment simulation. To address these issues, we introduce Propagation-before-Update Graph Network (Pb4U-GNet), a resolution-adaptive framework that decouples message propagation from feature updates. Pb4U-GNet incorporates two key mechanisms: (1) dynamic propagation depth control, adjusting message-passing iterations based on mesh resolution, and (2) geometry-aware update scaling, which scales predictions according to local mesh characteristics. Extensive experiments show that even trained solely on low-resolution meshes, Pb4U-GNet exhibits strong generalisability across diverse mesh resolutions, addressing a fundamental challenge in neural garment simulation.

KAN Text to Vision? The Exploration of Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks for Multi-Scale Sequence-Based Pose Animation from Sign Language Notation

Sign language production from symbolic notation offers a scalable route to accessible sign animation. We present KANMultiSign, a multi-scale sequence generator that translates HamNoSys notation into two-dimensional human pose sequences. Our framework makes two complementary contributions. First, we introduce a coarse-to-fine generation strategy with multi-scale supervision: the model is first guided by an intermediate body--hand--face scaffold to encourage global structural coherence, and then refines fine-grained hand articulation to improve finger-level detail. Second, we investigate integrating Kolmogorov--Arnold Network modules into a Transformer backbone, using learnable univariate function primitives to model the highly non-linear mapping from discrete phonological symbols to continuous body kinematics with a compact parameterization. Experiments on multiple public corpora spanning Polish, German, Greek, and French sign languages show consistent reductions in dynamic time warping based joint error compared with a strong notation-to-pose baseline, while using substantially fewer parameters. Controlled ablations further indicate that KAN-based variants substantially reduce parameter count while maintaining competitive performance when coupled with multi-scale supervision, rather than serving as the main driver of accuracy gains. These findings position multi-scale supervision as the key mechanism for improving notation-conditioned pose generation, with KAN offering a compact alternative for efficient modeling. Identity-Consistent Diffusion Network for Grading Knee Osteoarthritis Progression in Radiographic Imaging

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA), a common form of arthritis that causes physical disability, has become increasingly prevalent in society. Employing computer-aided techniques to automatically assess the severity and progression of KOA can greatly benefit KOA treatment and disease management. Particularly, the advancement of X-ray technology in KOA demonstrates its potential for this purpose. Yet, existing X-ray prognosis research generally yields a singular progression severity grade, overlooking the potential visual changes for understanding and explaining the progression outcome. Therefore, in this study, a novel generative model is proposed, namely Identity-Consistent Radiographic Diffusion Network (IC-RDN), for multifaceted KOA prognosis encompassing a predicted future knee X-ray scan conditioned on the baseline scan. Specifically, an identity prior module for the diffusion and a downstream generation-guided progression prediction module are introduced. Compared to conventional image-to-image generative models, identity priors regularize and guide the diffusion to focus more on the clinical nuances of the prognosis based on a contrastive learning strategy. The progression prediction module utilizes both forecasted and baseline knee scans, and a more comprehensive formulation of KOA severity progression grading is expected. Extensive experiments on a widely used public dataset, OAI, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

OrthoEraser: Coupled-Neuron Orthogonal Projection for Concept Erasure

Text-to-image (T2I) models face significant safety risks from adversarial induction, yet current concept erasure methods often cause collateral damage to benign attributes when suppressing selected neurons entirely. This occurs because sensitive and benign semantics exhibit non-orthogonal superposition, sharing activation subspaces where their respective vectors are inherently entangled. To address this issue, we propose OrthoEraser, which leverages sparse autoencoders (SAE) to achieve high-resolution feature disentanglement and subsequently redefines erasure as an analytical orthogonalization projection that preserves the benign manifold's invariance. OrthoEraser first employs SAE to decompose dense activations and segregate sensitive neurons. It then uses coupled neuron detection to identify non-sensitive features vulnerable to intervention. The key novelty lies in an analytical gradient orthogonalization strategy that projects erasure vectors onto the null space of the coupled neurons. This orthogonally decouples the sensitive concepts from the identified critical benign subspace, effectively preserving non-sensitive semantics. Experimental results on safety demonstrate that OrthoEraser achieves high erasure precision, effectively removing harmful content while preserving the integrity of the generative manifold, and significantly outperforming SOTA baselines. Enhancing Requirements Traceability Link Recovery: A Novel Approach with T-SimCSE

Requirements traceability plays an important role in ensuring software quality and responding to changes in requirements. Requirements trace links (such as the links between requirements and other software artifacts) underpin the modeling and implementation of requirements traceability. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, more and more pre-trained language models (PLMs) techniques are applied to the automatic recovery of requirements trace links. However, the requirements traceability links recovered by these approaches are not accurate enough, and many approaches require a large labeled dataset for training. Currently, there are very few labeled datasets available. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel requirements traceability link recovery approach called T-SimCSE, which is based on a PLM -- SimCSE. SimCSE has the advantages of not requiring labeled data, having broad applicability, and performing well. T-SimCSE firstly uses the SimCSE model to calculate the similarity between requirements and target artifacts, and employs a new metric (i.e. specificity) to reorder those target artifacts. Finally, the trace links are created between the requirement and the top-K target artifacts. We have evaluated T-SimCSE on ten public datasets by comparing them with other approaches. The results show that T-SimCSE achieves superior performance in terms of recall and Mean Average Precision (MAP).

SFDFusion: An Efficient Spatial-Frequency Domain Fusion Network for Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Infrared and visible image fusion aims to utilize the complementary information from two modalities to generate fused images with prominent targets and rich texture details. Most existing algorithms only perform pixel-level or feature-level fusion from different modalities in the spatial domain. They usually overlook the information in the frequency domain, and some of them suffer from inefficiency due to excessively complex structures. To tackle these challenges, this paper proposes an efficient Spatial-Frequency Domain Fusion (SFDFusion) network for infrared and visible image fusion. First, we propose a Dual-Modality Refinement Module (DMRM) to extract complementary information. This module extracts useful information from both the infrared and visible modalities in the spatial domain and enhances fine-grained spatial details. Next, to introduce frequency domain information, we construct a Frequency Domain Fusion Module (FDFM) that transforms the spatial domain to the frequency domain through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and then integrates frequency domain information. Additionally, we design a frequency domain fusion loss to provide guidance for the fusion process. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate that our method produces fused images with significant advantages in various fusion metrics and visual effects. Furthermore, our method demonstrates high efficiency in image fusion and good performance on downstream detection tasks, thereby satisfying the real-time demands of advanced visual tasks.

PMAT: Optimizing Action Generation Order in Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) faces challenges in coordinating agents due to complex interdependencies within multi-agent systems. Most MARL algorithms use the simultaneous decision-making paradigm but ignore the action-level dependencies among agents, which reduces coordination efficiency. In contrast, the sequential decision-making paradigm provides finer-grained supervision for agent decision order, presenting the potential for handling dependencies via better decision order management. However, determining the optimal decision order remains a challenge. In this paper, we introduce Action Generation with Plackett-Luce Sampling (AGPS), a novel mechanism for agent decision order optimization. We model the order determination task as a Plackett-Luce sampling process to address issues such as ranking instability and vanishing gradient during the network training process. AGPS realizes credit-based decision order determination by establishing a bridge between the significance of agents' local observations and their decision credits, thus facilitating order optimization and dependency management. Integrating AGPS with the Multi-Agent Transformer, we propose the Prioritized Multi-Agent Transformer (PMAT), a sequential decision-making MARL algorithm with decision order optimization. Experiments on benchmarks including StarCraft II Multi-Agent Challenge, Google Research Football, and Multi-Agent MuJoCo show that PMAT outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms, greatly enhancing coordination efficiency.

DC-PCN: Point Cloud Completion Network with Dual-Codebook Guided Quantization

Point cloud completion aims to reconstruct complete 3D shapes from partial 3D point clouds. With advancements in deep learning techniques, various methods for point cloud completion have been developed. Despite achieving encouraging results, a significant issue remains: these methods often overlook the variability in point clouds sampled from a single 3D object surface. This variability can lead to ambiguity and hinder the achievement of more precise completion results. Therefore, in this study, we introduce a novel point cloud completion network, namely Dual-Codebook Point Completion Network (DC-PCN), following an encder-decoder pipeline. The primary objective of DC-PCN is to formulate a singular representation of sampled point clouds originating from the same 3D surface. DC-PCN introduces a dual-codebook design to quantize point-cloud representations from a multilevel perspective. It consists of an encoder-codebook and a decoder-codebook, designed to capture distinct point cloud patterns at shallow and deep levels. Additionally, to enhance the information flow between these two codebooks, we devise an information exchange mechanism. This approach ensures that crucial features and patterns from both shallow and deep levels are effectively utilized for completion. Extensive experiments on the PCN, ShapeNet\_Part, and ShapeNet34 datasets demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our method.

Motion Keyframe Interpolation for Any Human Skeleton via Temporally Consistent Point Cloud Sampling and Reconstruction

In the character animation field, modern supervised keyframe interpolation models have demonstrated exceptional performance in constructing natural human motions from sparse pose definitions. As supervised models, large motion datasets are necessary to facilitate the learning process; however, since motion is represented with fixed hierarchical skeletons, such datasets are incompatible for skeletons outside the datasets' native configurations. Consequently, the expected availability of a motion dataset for desired skeletons severely hinders the feasibility of learned interpolation in practice. To combat this limitation, we propose Point Cloud-based Motion Representation Learning (PC-MRL), an unsupervised approach to enabling cross-compatibility between skeletons for motion interpolation learning. PC-MRL consists of a skeleton obfuscation strategy using temporal point cloud sampling, and an unsupervised skeleton reconstruction method from point clouds. We devise a temporal point-wise K-nearest neighbors loss for unsupervised learning. Moreover, we propose First-frame Offset Quaternion (FOQ) and Rest Pose Augmentation (RPA) strategies to overcome necessary limitations of our unsupervised point cloud-to-skeletal motion process. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of PC-MRL in motion interpolation for desired skeletons without supervision from native datasets.

EPIR: An Efficient Patch Tokenization, Integration and Representation Framework for Micro-expression Recognition

Micro-expression recognition can obtain the real emotion of the individual at the current moment. Although deep learning-based methods, especially Transformer-based methods, have achieved impressive results, these methods have high computational complexity due to the large number of tokens in the multi-head self-attention. In addition, the existing micro-expression datasets are small-scale, which makes it difficult for Transformer-based models to learn effective micro-expression representations. Therefore, we propose a novel Efficient Patch tokenization, Integration and Representation framework (EPIR), which can balance high recognition performance and low computational complexity. Specifically, we first propose a dual norm shifted tokenization (DNSPT) module to learn the spatial relationship between neighboring pixels in the face region, which is implemented by a refined spatial transformation and dual norm projection. Then, we propose a token integration module to integrate partial tokens among multiple cascaded Transformer blocks, thereby reducing the number of tokens without information loss. Furthermore, we design a discriminative token extractor, which first improves the attention in the Transformer block to reduce the unnecessary focus of the attention calculation on self-tokens, and uses the dynamic token selection module (DTSM) to select key tokens, thereby capturing more discriminative micro-expression representations. We conduct extensive experiments on four popular public datasets (i.e., CASME II, SAMM, SMIC, and CAS(ME)3. The experimental results show that our method achieves significant performance gains over the state-of-the-art methods, such as 9.6% improvement on the CAS(ME)$^3$ dataset in terms of UF1 and 4.58% improvement on the SMIC dataset in terms of UAR metric.

PUMPS: Skeleton-Agnostic Point-based Universal Motion Pre-Training for Synthesis in Human Motion Tasks

Motion skeletons drive 3D character animation by transforming bone hierarchies, but differences in proportions or structure make motion data hard to transfer across skeletons, posing challenges for data-driven motion synthesis. Temporal Point Clouds (TPCs) offer an unstructured, cross-compatible motion representation. Though reversible with skeletons, TPCs mainly serve for compatibility, not for direct motion task learning. Doing so would require data synthesis capabilities for the TPC format, which presents unexplored challenges regarding its unique temporal consistency and point identifiability. Therefore, we propose PUMPS, the primordial autoencoder architecture for TPC data. PUMPS independently reduces frame-wise point clouds into sampleable feature vectors, from which a decoder extracts distinct temporal points using latent Gaussian noise vectors as sampling identifiers. We introduce linear assignment-based point pairing to optimise the TPC reconstruction process, and negate the use of expensive point-wise attention mechanisms in the architecture. Using these latent features, we pre-train a motion synthesis model capable of performing motion prediction, transition generation, and keyframe interpolation. For these pre-training tasks, PUMPS performs remarkably well even without native dataset supervision, matching state-of-the-art performance. When fine-tuned for motion denoising or estimation, PUMPS outperforms many respective methods without deviating from its generalist architecture.

DuoCast: Duo-Probabilistic Diffusion for Precipitation Nowcasting

Accurate short-term precipitation forecasting is critical for weather-sensitive decision-making in agriculture, transportation, and disaster response. Existing deep learning approaches often struggle to balance global structural consistency with local detail preservation, especially under complex meteorological conditions. We propose DuoCast, a dual-diffusion framework that decomposes precipitation forecasting into low- and high-frequency components modeled in orthogonal latent subspaces. We theoretically prove that this frequency decomposition reduces prediction error compared to conventional single branch U-Net diffusion models. In DuoCast, the low-frequency model captures large-scale trends via convolutional encoders conditioned on weather front dynamics, while the high-frequency model refines fine-scale variability using a self-attention-based architecture. Experiments on four benchmark radar datasets show that DuoCast consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, achieving superior accuracy in both spatial detail and temporal evolution.

Charting Empirical Laws for LLM Fine-Tuning in Scientific Multi-Discipline Learning

While large language models (LLMs) have achieved strong performance through fine-tuning within individual scientific domains, their learning dynamics in multi-disciplinary contexts remains poorly understood, despite the promise of improved generalization and broader applicability through cross-domain knowledge synergy. In this work, we present the first systematic study of multi-disciplinary LLM fine-tuning, constructing a five-discipline corpus and analyzing learning patterns of full fine-tuning, LoRA, LoRA-MoE, and LoRA compositions. Particularly, our study shows that multi-disciplinary learning is substantially more variable than single-discipline training and distills four consistent empirical laws: (1) Balance-then-Diversity: low-resource disciplines degrade performance unless mitigated via diversity-aware upsampling; (2) Merge-then-Align: restoring instruction-following ability is critical for cross-discipline synergy; (3) Optimize-then-Scale: parameter scaling offers limited gains without prior design optimization; and (4) Share-then-Specialize: asymmetric LoRA-MoE yields robust gains with minimal trainable parameters via shared low-rank projection. Together, these laws form a practical recipe for principled multi-discipline fine-tuning and provide actionable guidance for developing generalizable scientific LLMs.

Text2Sign Diffusion: A Generative Approach for Gloss-Free Sign Language Production

Sign language production (SLP) aims to translate spoken language sentences into a sequence of pose frames in a sign language, bridging the communication gap and promoting digital inclusion for deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Existing methods typically rely on gloss, a symbolic representation of sign language words or phrases that serves as an intermediate step in SLP. This limits the flexibility and generalization of SLP, as gloss annotations are often unavailable and language-specific. Therefore, we present a novel diffusion-based generative approach - Text2Sign Diffusion (Text2SignDiff) for gloss-free SLP. Specifically, a gloss-free latent diffusion model is proposed to generate sign language sequences from noisy latent sign codes and spoken text jointly, reducing the potential error accumulation through a non-autoregressive iterative denoising process. We also design a cross-modal signing aligner that learns a shared latent space to bridge visual and textual content in sign and spoken languages. This alignment supports the conditioned diffusion-based process, enabling more accurate and contextually relevant sign language generation without gloss. Extensive experiments on the commonly used PHOENIX14T and How2Sign datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, achieving the state-of-the-art performance.

Fuzzing: Randomness? Reasoning! Efficient Directed Fuzzing via Large Language Models

Fuzzing is highly effective in detecting bugs due to the key contribution of randomness. However, randomness significantly reduces the efficiency of fuzzing, causing it to cost days or weeks to expose bugs. Even though directed fuzzing reduces randomness by guiding fuzzing towards target buggy locations, the dilemma of randomness still challenges directed fuzzers. Two critical components, which are seeds and mutators, contain randomness and are closely tied to the conditions required for triggering bugs. Therefore, to address the challenge of randomness, we propose to use large language models (LLMs) to remove the randomness in seeds and reduce the randomness in mutators. With their strong reasoning and code generation capabilities, LLMs can be used to generate reachable seeds that target pre-determined locations and to construct bug-specific mutators tailored for specific bugs. We propose RandLuzz, which integrates LLMs and directed fuzzing, to improve the quality of seeds and mutators, resulting in efficient bug exposure. RandLuzz analyzes function call chain or functionality to guide LLMs in generating reachable seeds. To construct bug-specific mutators, RandLuzz uses LLMs to perform bug analysis, obtaining information such as bug causes and mutation suggestions, which further help generate code that performs bug-specific mutations. We evaluate RandLuzz by comparing it with four state-of-the-art directed fuzzers, AFLGo, Beacon, WindRanger, and SelectFuzz. With RandLuzz-generated seeds, the fuzzers achieve an average speedup ranging from 2.1$\times$ to 4.8$\times$ compared to using widely-used initial seeds. Additionally, when evaluated on individual bugs, RandLuzz achieves up to a 2.7$\times$ speedup compared to the second-fastest exposure. On 8 bugs, RandLuzz can even expose them within 60 seconds.

Learning Fine-Grained Geometry for Sparse-View Splatting via Cascade Depth Loss

Novel view synthesis is a fundamental task in 3D computer vision that aims to reconstruct realistic images from a set of posed input views. However, reconstruction quality degrades significantly under sparse-view conditions due to limited geometric cues. Existing methods, such as Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and the more recent 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), often suffer from blurred details and structural artifacts when trained with insufficient views. Recent works have identified the quality of rendered depth as a key factor in mitigating these artifacts, as it directly affects geometric accuracy and view consistency. In this paper, we address these challenges by introducing Hierarchical Depth-Guided Splatting (HDGS), a depth supervision framework that progressively refines geometry from coarse to fine levels. Central to HDGS is a novel Cascade Pearson Correlation Loss (CPCL), which aligns rendered and estimated monocular depths across multiple spatial scales. By enforcing multi-scale depth consistency, our method substantially improves structural fidelity in sparse-view scenarios. Extended Short- and Long-Range Mesh Learning for Fast and Generalized Garment Simulation

3D garment simulation is a critical component for producing cloth-based graphics. Recent advancements in graph neural networks (GNNs) offer a promising approach for efficient garment simulation. However, GNNs require extensive message-passing to propagate information such as physical forces and maintain contact awareness across the entire garment mesh, which becomes computationally inefficient at higher resolutions. To address this, we devise a novel GNN-based mesh learning framework with two key components to extend the message-passing range with minimal overhead, namely the Laplacian-Smoothed Dual Message-Passing (LSDMP) and the Geodesic Self-Attention (GSA) modules. LSDMP enhances message-passing with a Laplacian features smoothing process, which efficiently propagates the impact of each vertex to nearby vertices. Concurrently, GSA introduces geodesic distance embeddings to represent the spatial relationship between vertices and utilises attention mechanisms to capture global mesh information. The two modules operate in parallel to ensure both short- and long-range mesh modelling. Extensive experiments demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our method, requiring fewer layers and lower inference latency.

Bridging the Gap: Sketch-Aware Interpolation Network for High-Quality Animation Sketch Inbetweening

Hand-drawn 2D animation workflow is typically initiated with the creation of sketch keyframes. Subsequent manual inbetweens are crafted for smoothness, which is a labor-intensive process and the prospect of automatic animation sketch interpolation has become highly appealing. Yet, common frame interpolation methods are generally hindered by two key issues: 1) limited texture and colour details in sketches, and 2) exaggerated alterations between two sketch keyframes. To overcome these issues, we propose a novel deep learning method - Sketch-Aware Interpolation Network (SAIN). This approach incorporates multi-level guidance that formulates region-level correspondence, stroke-level correspondence and pixel-level dynamics. A multi-stream U-Transformer is then devised to characterize sketch inbetweening patterns using these multi-level guides through the integration of self / cross-attention mechanisms. Additionally, to facilitate future research on animation sketch inbetweening, we constructed a large-scale dataset - STD-12K, comprising 30 sketch animation series in diverse artistic styles. Comprehensive experiments on this dataset convincingly show that our proposed SAIN surpasses the state-of-the-art interpolation methods.

Sign Language Translation with Hierarchical Spatio-TemporalGraph Neural Network

Sign language translation (SLT), which generates text in a spoken language from visual content in a sign language, is important to assist the hard-of-hearing community for their communications. Inspired by neural machine translation (NMT), most existing SLT studies adopted a general sequence to sequence learning strategy. However, SLT is significantly different from general NMT tasks since sign languages convey messages through multiple visual-manual aspects. Therefore, in this paper, these unique characteristics of sign languages are formulated as hierarchical spatio-temporal graph representations, including high-level and fine-level graphs of which a vertex characterizes a specified body part and an edge represents their interactions. Particularly, high-level graphs represent the patterns in the regions such as hands and face, and fine-level graphs consider the joints of hands and landmarks of facial regions. To learn these graph patterns, a novel deep learning architecture, namely hierarchical spatio-temporal graph neural network (HST-GNN), is proposed. Graph convolutions and graph self-attentions with neighborhood context are proposed to characterize both the local and the global graph properties. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Deep Learning Techniques for In-Crop Weed Identification: A Review

Weeds are a significant threat to the agricultural productivity and the environment. The increasing demand for sustainable agriculture has driven innovations in accurate weed control technologies aimed at reducing the reliance on herbicides. With the great success of deep learning in various vision tasks, many promising image-based weed detection algorithms have been developed. This paper reviews recent developments of deep learning techniques in the field of image-based weed detection. The review begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of deep learning related to weed detection. Next, recent progresses on deep weed detection are reviewed with the discussion of the research materials including public weed datasets. Finally, the challenges of developing practically deployable weed detection methods are summarized, together with the discussions of the opportunities for future research.We hope that this review will provide a timely survey of the field and attract more researchers to address this inter-disciplinary research problem.

A Framework in CRM Customer Lifecycle: Identify Downward Trend and Potential Issues Detection

Customer retention is one of the primary goals in the area of customer relationship management. A mass of work exists in which machine learning models or business rules are established to predict churn. However, targeting users at an early stage when they start to show a downward trend is a better strategy. In downward trend prediction, the reasons why customers show a downward trend is of great interest in the industry as it helps the business to understand the pain points that customers suffer and to take early action to prevent them from churning. A commonly used method is to collect feedback from customers by either aggressively reaching out to them or by passively hearing from them. However, it is believed that there are a large number of customers who have unpleasant experiences and never speak out. In the literature, there is limited research work that provides a comprehensive and scientific approach to identify these "silent suffers". In this study, we propose a novel two-part framework: developing the downward prediction process and establishing the methodology to identify the reasons why customers are in the downward trend. In the first prediction part, we focus on predicting the downward trend, which is an earlier stage of the customer lifecycle compared to churn. In the second part, we propose an approach to figuring out the cause (of the downward trend) based on a causal inference method and semi-supervised learning. The proposed approach is capable of identifying potential silent sufferers. We take bad shopping experiences as inputs to develop the framework and validate it via a marketing A/B test in the real world. The test readout demonstrates the effectiveness of the framework by driving 88.5% incremental lift in purchase volume.

SenseFlow: An Experimental Study for Tracking People

The main challenges in large-scale people tracking are the recognition of people density in a specific area and tracking the people flow path. To address these challenges, we present SenseFlow, a lightweight people tracking system. SenseFlow utilises off-the-shelf devices which sniff probe requests periodically polled by user's smartphones in a passive manner. We demonstrate the feasibility of SenseFlow by building a proof-of-concept prototype and undertaking extensive evaluations in real-world settings. We deploy the system in one laboratory to study office hours of researchers, a crowded public area in city to evaluate the scalability and performance "in the wild", and four classrooms in the university to monitor the number of students. We also evaluate SenseFlow with varying walking speeds and different models of smartphones to investigate the people flow tracking performance.
