Exploring the Convergence of HCI and Evolving Technologies in Information SystemsRajan Das Gupta, Ashikur Rahman, Md Imrul Hasan Showmick et al.
Modern technology driven information systems are part of our daily lives. However, this deep integration poses new challenges to the human computer interaction (HCI) professionals. With the rapid growth of mobile and cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT), the demand for HCI specialists to design user-friendly and adaptable interfaces has never been more pressing. Especially for diverse user groups such as children, the elderly and people with disabilities who need interfaces tailored to their needs regardless of time and location. This study reviewed 50 recent papers on HCI interface design for modern information systems. The goal is to see how well these methods address the demands of current technology. The findings show that most HCI design methods are still based on old desktop models and do not support mobile users and location-based services well. Most existing interface design guidelines do not align with the flexibility and dynamism of emerging technologies. The goal of this study is to improve interface design by combining agile methodologies with human-centered design principles. Future studies should also incorporate both qualitative and quantitative approaches, particularly in the context of cloud-based technologies and organizational information systems. This approach aims to bridge the gap between current interface design practices and the changing technological landscape.

VLAgeBench: Benchmarking Large Vision-Language Models for Zero-Shot Human Age EstimationRakib Hossain Sajib, Md Kishor Morol, Rajan Das Gupta et al.
Human age estimation from facial images represents a challenging computer vision task with significant applications in biometrics, healthcare, and human-computer interaction. While traditional deep learning approaches require extensive labeled datasets and domain-specific training, recent advances in large vision-language models (LVLMs) offer the potential for zero-shot age estimation. This study presents a comprehensive zero-shot evaluation of state-of-the-art Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) for facial age estimation, a task traditionally dominated by domain-specific convolutional networks and supervised learning. We assess the performance of GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and LLaMA 3.2 Vision on two benchmark datasets, UTKFace and FG-NET, without any fine-tuning or task-specific adaptation. Using eight evaluation metrics, including MAE, MSE, RMSE, MAPE, MBE, $R^2$, CCC, and $\pm$5-year accuracy, we demonstrate that general-purpose LVLMs can deliver competitive performance in zero-shot settings. Our findings highlight the emergent capabilities of LVLMs for accurate biometric age estimation and position these models as promising tools for real-world applications. Additionally, we highlight performance disparities linked to image quality and demographic subgroups, underscoring the need for fairness-aware multimodal inference. This work introduces a reproducible benchmark and positions LVLMs as promising tools for real-world applications in forensic science, healthcare monitoring, and human-computer interaction. The benchmark focuses on strict zero-shot inference without fine-tuning and highlights remaining challenges related to prompt sensitivity, interpretability, computational cost, and demographic fairness.

A deep learning and machine learning approach to predict neonatal death in the context of São PauloMohon Raihan, Plabon Kumar Saha, Rajan Das Gupta et al.
Neonatal death is still a concerning reality for underdeveloped and even some developed countries. Worldwide data indicate that 26.693 babies out of 1,000 births die, according to Macro Trades. To reduce this number, early prediction of endangered babies is crucial. Such prediction enables the opportunity to take ample care of the child and mother so that early child death can be avoided. In this context, machine learning was used to determine whether a newborn baby is at risk. To train the predictive model, historical data of 1.4 million newborns was used. Machine learning and deep learning techniques such as logical regression, K-nearest neighbor, random forest classifier, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), convolutional neural network, and long short-term memory (LSTM) were implemented using the dataset to identify the most accurate model for predicting neonatal mortality. Among the machine learning algorithms, XGBoost and random forest classifier achieved the best accuracy with 94%, while among the deep learning models, LSTM delivered the highest accuracy with 99%. Therefore, using LSTM appears to be the most suitable approach to predict whether precautionary measures for a child are necessary.

Advancing Exchange Rate Forecasting: Leveraging Machine Learning and AI for Enhanced Accuracy in Global Financial MarketsMd. Yeasin Rahat, Rajan Das Gupta, Nur Raisa Rahman et al.
The prediction of foreign exchange rates, such as the US Dollar (USD) to Bangladeshi Taka (BDT), plays a pivotal role in global financial markets, influencing trade, investments, and economic stability. This study leverages historical USD/BDT exchange rate data from 2018 to 2023, sourced from Yahoo Finance, to develop advanced machine learning models for accurate forecasting. A Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network is employed, achieving an exceptional accuracy of 99.449%, a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.9858, and a test loss of 0.8523, significantly outperforming traditional methods like ARIMA (RMSE 1.342). Additionally, a Gradient Boosting Classifier (GBC) is applied for directional prediction, with backtesting on a $10,000 initial capital revealing a 40.82% profitable trade rate, though resulting in a net loss of $20,653.25 over 49 trades. The study analyzes historical trends, showing a decline in BDT/USD rates from 0.012 to 0.009, and incorporates normalized daily returns to capture volatility. These findings highlight the potential of deep learning in forex forecasting, offering traders and policymakers robust tools to mitigate risks. Future work could integrate sentiment analysis and real-time economic indicators to further enhance model adaptability in volatile markets.

An Explainable Deep Learning Framework for Brain Stroke and Tumor Progression via MRI InterpretationRajan Das Gupta, Md Imrul Hasan Showmick, Mushfiqur Rahman Abir et al.
Early and accurate detection of brain abnormalities, such as tumors and strokes, is essential for timely intervention and improved patient outcomes. In this study, we present a deep learning-based system capable of identifying both brain tumors and strokes from MRI images, along with their respective stages. We have executed two groundbreaking strategies involving convolutional neural networks, MobileNet V2 and ResNet-50-optimized through transfer learning to classify MRI scans into five diagnostic categories. Our dataset, aggregated and augmented from various publicly available MRI sources, was carefully curated to ensure class balance and image diversity. To enhance model generalization and prevent overfitting, we applied dropout layers and extensive data augmentation. The models achieved strong performance, with training accuracy reaching 93\% and validation accuracy up to 88\%. While ResNet-50 demonstrated slightly better results, Mobile Net V2 remains a promising option for real-time diagnosis in low resource settings due to its lightweight architecture. This research offers a practical AI-driven solution for early brain abnormality detection, with potential for clinical deployment and future enhancement through larger datasets and multi modal inputs.
