LocalMamba: Visual State Space Model with Windowed Selective ScanTao Huang, Xiaohuan Pei, Shan You et al.
Recent advancements in state space models, notably Mamba, have demonstrated significant progress in modeling long sequences for tasks like language understanding. Yet, their application in vision tasks has not markedly surpassed the performance of traditional Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformers (ViTs). This paper posits that the key to enhancing Vision Mamba (ViM) lies in optimizing scan directions for sequence modeling. Traditional ViM approaches, which flatten spatial tokens, overlook the preservation of local 2D dependencies, thereby elongating the distance between adjacent tokens. We introduce a novel local scanning strategy that divides images into distinct windows, effectively capturing local dependencies while maintaining a global perspective. Additionally, acknowledging the varying preferences for scan patterns across different network layers, we propose a dynamic method to independently search for the optimal scan choices for each layer, substantially improving performance. Extensive experiments across both plain and hierarchical models underscore our approach's superiority in effectively capturing image representations. For example, our model significantly outperforms Vim-Ti by 3.1% on ImageNet with the same 1.5G FLOPs. Code is available at: https://github.com/hunto/LocalMamba.

Gradient-Guided Conditional Diffusion Models for Private Image Reconstruction: Analyzing Adversarial Impacts of Differential Privacy and DenoisingTao Huang, Jiayang Meng, Hong Chen et al.
We investigate the construction of gradient-guided conditional diffusion models for reconstructing private images, focusing on the adversarial interplay between differential privacy noise and the denoising capabilities of diffusion models. While current gradient-based reconstruction methods struggle with high-resolution images due to computational complexity and prior knowledge requirements, we propose two novel methods that require minimal modifications to the diffusion model's generation process and eliminate the need for prior knowledge. Our approach leverages the strong image generation capabilities of diffusion models to reconstruct private images starting from randomly generated noise, even when a small amount of differentially private noise has been added to the gradients. We also conduct a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the impact of differential privacy noise on the quality of reconstructed images, revealing the relationship among noise magnitude, the architecture of attacked models, and the attacker's reconstruction capability. Additionally, extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed methods and the accuracy of our theoretical findings, suggesting new directions for privacy risk auditing using conditional diffusion models.

Deterministic Computing Power Networking: Architecture, Technologies and ProspectsQingmin Jia, Yujiao Hu, Xiaomao Zhou et al.
With the development of new Internet services such as computation-intensive and delay-sensitive tasks, the traditional "Best Effort" network transmission mode has been greatly challenged. The network system is urgently required to provide end-to-end transmission determinacy and computing determinacy for new applications to ensure the safe and efficient operation of services. Based on the research of the convergence of computing and networking, a new network paradigm named deterministic computing power networking (Det-CPN) is proposed. In this article, we firstly introduce the research advance of computing power networking. And then the motivations and scenarios of Det-CPN are analyzed. Following that, we present the system architecture, technological capabilities, workflow as well as key technologies for Det-CPN. Finally, the challenges and future trends of Det-CPN are analyzed and discussed.

Intermediate Outputs Are More Sensitive Than You ThinkTao Huang, Qingyu Huang, Jiayang Meng
The increasing reliance on deep computer vision models that process sensitive data has raised significant privacy concerns, particularly regarding the exposure of intermediate results in hidden layers. While traditional privacy risk assessment techniques focus on protecting overall model outputs, they often overlook vulnerabilities within these intermediate representations. Current privacy risk assessment techniques typically rely on specific attack simulations to assess risk, which can be computationally expensive and incomplete. This paper introduces a novel approach to measuring privacy risks in deep computer vision models based on the Degrees of Freedom (DoF) and sensitivity of intermediate outputs, without requiring adversarial attack simulations. We propose a framework that leverages DoF to evaluate the amount of information retained in each layer and combines this with the rank of the Jacobian matrix to assess sensitivity to input variations. This dual analysis enables systematic measurement of privacy risks at various model layers. Our experimental validation on real-world datasets demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach in providing deeper insights into privacy risks associated with intermediate representations.

MG-GCN: Fast and Effective Learning with Mix-grained Aggregators for Training Large Graph Convolutional NetworksTao Huang, Yihan Zhang, Jiajing Wu et al.
Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) have been employed as a kind of significant tool on many graph-based applications recently. Inspired by convolutional neural networks (CNNs), GCNs generate the embeddings of nodes by aggregating the information of their neighbors layer by layer. However, the high computational and memory cost of GCNs due to the recursive neighborhood expansion across GCN layers makes it infeasible for training on large graphs. To tackle this issue, several sampling methods during the process of information aggregation have been proposed to train GCNs in a mini-batch Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) manner. Nevertheless, these sampling strategies sometimes bring concerns about insufficient information collection, which may hinder the learning performance in terms of accuracy and convergence. To tackle the dilemma between accuracy and efficiency, we propose to use aggregators with different granularities to gather neighborhood information in different layers. Then, a degree-based sampling strategy, which avoids the exponential complexity, is constructed for sampling a fixed number of nodes. Combining the above two mechanisms, the proposed model, named Mix-grained GCN (MG-GCN) achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of accuracy, training speed, convergence speed, and memory cost through a comprehensive set of experiments on four commonly used benchmark datasets and a new Ethereum dataset.

Robust Data Preprocessing for Machine-Learning-Based Disk Failure Prediction in Cloud Production EnvironmentsShujie Han, Jun Wu, Erci Xu et al.
To provide proactive fault tolerance for modern cloud data centers, extensive studies have proposed machine learning (ML) approaches to predict imminent disk failures for early remedy and evaluated their approaches directly on public datasets (e.g., Backblaze SMART logs). However, in real-world production environments, the data quality is imperfect (e.g., inaccurate labeling, missing data samples, and complex failure types), thereby degrading the prediction accuracy. We present RODMAN, a robust data preprocessing pipeline that refines data samples before feeding them into ML models. We start with a large-scale trace-driven study of over three million disks from Alibaba Cloud's data centers, and motivate the practical challenges in ML-based disk failure prediction. We then design RODMAN with three data preprocessing echniques, namely failure-type filtering, spline-based data filling, and automated pre-failure backtracking, that are applicable for general ML models. Evaluation on both the Alibaba and Backblaze datasets shows that RODMAN improves the prediction accuracy compared to without data preprocessing under various settings.
