Why Thinking Hurts: Diagnosing and Rectifying Linguistic Inertia in Large Language Models for RecommendationLuankang Zhang, Yonghao Huang, Hang Lv et al.
Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning is widely used to improve LLM performance, and recent foundation recommender models adopt it by generating textual reasoning before predicting target items represented by Semantic IDs (SIDs). However, we observe that enabling thinking mode in models such as OpenOneRec can degrade recommendation quality by up to 25%. We investigate this failure and identify Linguistic Inertia: when a textual CoT segment is inserted before SID generation, the model relies more on natural-language context and less on historical SID evidence. Further analyses show that this effect is amplified by reduced access to historical information and longer CoT lengths. To mitigate it, we propose Linguistic-Inertia-Calibrated Decoding (LICD), a training-free framework that combines Reasoning-Chain Compression and Bias-Subtracted Contrastive Inference. Experiments on three large-scale benchmarks show that LICD consistently outperforms both no-thinking and original-thinking baselines. Kairos: Lightweight Testing Framework for Timing-Induced Interaction Failures in LTE and 5G Core NetworksWei Guo, Yuanhao Li, Hao Zheng et al.
As cellular core networks evolve toward distributed and cloud-native architectures, control-plane interactions become more intricate and bring new challenges. Among these challenges, we find that introducing specific timing between two control-plane interactions can cause network function crash, which we define as timing-induced interaction failures. Prior research primarily addresses identifying malformed inputs and specification violations, while timing-induced interaction failures remain largely unexplored. In this paper, we conduct a systematic study of timing-induced interaction failures in LTE and 5G core networks. First, we establish a taxonomy of control-plane interaction patterns and analyze the failure modes of each pattern. Then, we design and implement Kairos, a lightweight testing framework to expose timing-induced interaction failures without analyzing cellular standard documents. Evaluating Kairos on two open source and two commercial LTE and 5G core networks, we uncover 20 new vulnerabilities and reproduce 34 existing issues. Our results show that timing-induced interaction failures are prevalent in LTE and 5G core networks and should be explicitly considered in future specifications.

Cross Pairwise Ranking for Unbiased Item RecommendationQi Wan, Xiangnan He, Xiang Wang et al.
Most recommender systems optimize the model on observed interaction data, which is affected by the previous exposure mechanism and exhibits many biases like popularity bias. The loss functions, such as the mostly used pointwise Binary Cross-Entropy and pairwise Bayesian Personalized Ranking, are not designed to consider the biases in observed data. As a result, the model optimized on the loss would inherit the data biases, or even worse, amplify the biases. For example, a few popular items take up more and more exposure opportunities, severely hurting the recommendation quality on niche items -- known as the notorious Mathew effect. In this work, we develop a new learning paradigm named Cross Pairwise Ranking (CPR) that achieves unbiased recommendation without knowing the exposure mechanism. Distinct from inverse propensity scoring (IPS), we change the loss term of a sample -- we innovatively sample multiple observed interactions once and form the loss as the combination of their predictions. We prove in theory that this way offsets the influence of user/item propensity on the learning, removing the influence of data biases caused by the exposure mechanism. Advantageous to IPS, our proposed CPR ensures unbiased learning for each training instance without the need of setting the propensity scores. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of CPR over state-of-the-art debiasing solutions in both model generalization and training efficiency. Can Recommender Systems Teach Themselves? A Recursive Self-Improving Framework with Fidelity ControlLuankang Zhang, Hao Wang, Zhongzhou Liu et al.
The scarcity of high-quality training data presents a fundamental bottleneck to scaling machine learning models. This challenge is particularly acute in recommendation systems, where extreme sparsity in user interactions leads to rugged optimization landscapes and poor generalization. We propose the Recursive Self-Improving Recommendation (RSIR) framework, a paradigm in which a model bootstraps its own performance without reliance on external data or teacher models. RSIR operates in a closed loop: the current model generates plausible user interaction sequences, a fidelity-based quality control mechanism filters them for consistency with user's approximate preference manifold, and a successor model is augmented on the enriched dataset. Our theoretical analysis shows that RSIR acts as a data-driven implicit regularizer, smoothing the optimization landscape and guiding models toward more robust solutions. Empirically, RSIR yields consistent, cumulative gains across multiple benchmarks and architectures. Notably, even smaller models benefit, and weak models can generate effective training curricula for stronger ones. These results demonstrate that recursive self-improvement is a general, model-agnostic approach to overcoming data sparsity, suggesting a scalable path forward for recommender systems and beyond. Compressed Interaction Graph based Framework for Multi-behavior RecommendationWei Guo, Chang Meng, Enming Yuan et al.
Multi-types of user behavior data (e.g., clicking, adding to cart, and purchasing) are recorded in most real-world recommendation scenarios, which can help to learn users' multi-faceted preferences. However, it is challenging to explore multi-behavior data due to the unbalanced data distribution and sparse target behavior, which lead to the inadequate modeling of high-order relations when treating multi-behavior data ''as features'' and gradient conflict in multitask learning when treating multi-behavior data ''as labels''. In this paper, we propose CIGF, a Compressed Interaction Graph based Framework, to overcome the above limitations. Specifically, we design a novel Compressed Interaction Graph Convolution Network (CIGCN) to model instance-level high-order relations explicitly. To alleviate the potential gradient conflict when treating multi-behavior data ''as labels'', we propose a Multi-Expert with Separate Input (MESI) network with separate input on the top of CIGCN for multi-task learning. Comprehensive experiments on three large-scale real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of CIGF. Ablation studies and in-depth analysis further validate the effectiveness of our proposed model in capturing high-order relations and alleviating gradient conflict. CodeKGC: Code Language Model for Generative Knowledge Graph ConstructionZhen Bi, Jing Chen, Yinuo Jiang et al.
Current generative knowledge graph construction approaches usually fail to capture structural knowledge by simply flattening natural language into serialized texts or a specification language. However, large generative language model trained on structured data such as code has demonstrated impressive capability in understanding natural language for structural prediction and reasoning tasks. Intuitively, we address the task of generative knowledge graph construction with code language model: given a code-format natural language input, the target is to generate triples which can be represented as code completion tasks. Specifically, we develop schema-aware prompts that effectively utilize the semantic structure within the knowledge graph. As code inherently possesses structure, such as class and function definitions, it serves as a useful model for prior semantic structural knowledge. Furthermore, we employ a rationale-enhanced generation method to boost the performance. Rationales provide intermediate steps, thereby improving knowledge extraction abilities. Experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can obtain better performance on benchmark datasets compared with baselines. APGL4SR: A Generic Framework with Adaptive and Personalized Global Collaborative Information in Sequential RecommendationMingjia Yin, Hao Wang, Xiang Xu et al.
The sequential recommendation system has been widely studied for its promising effectiveness in capturing dynamic preferences buried in users' sequential behaviors. Despite the considerable achievements, existing methods usually focus on intra-sequence modeling while overlooking exploiting global collaborative information by inter-sequence modeling, resulting in inferior recommendation performance. Therefore, previous works attempt to tackle this problem with a global collaborative item graph constructed by pre-defined rules. However, these methods neglect two crucial properties when capturing global collaborative information, i.e., adaptiveness and personalization, yielding sub-optimal user representations. To this end, we propose a graph-driven framework, named Adaptive and Personalized Graph Learning for Sequential Recommendation (APGL4SR), that incorporates adaptive and personalized global collaborative information into sequential recommendation systems. Specifically, we first learn an adaptive global graph among all items and capture global collaborative information with it in a self-supervised fashion, whose computational burden can be further alleviated by the proposed SVD-based accelerator. Furthermore, based on the graph, we propose to extract and utilize personalized item correlations in the form of relative positional encoding, which is a highly compatible manner of personalizing the utilization of global collaborative information. Finally, the entire framework is optimized in a multi-task learning paradigm, thus each part of APGL4SR can be mutually reinforced. High-throughput 3D shape completion of potato tubers on a harvesterPieter M. Blok, Federico Magistri, Cyrill Stachniss et al.
Potato yield is an important metric for farmers to further optimize their cultivation practices. Potato yield can be estimated on a harvester using an RGB-D camera that can estimate the three-dimensional (3D) volume of individual potato tubers. A challenge, however, is that the 3D shape derived from RGB-D images is only partially completed, underestimating the actual volume. To address this issue, we developed a 3D shape completion network, called CoRe++, which can complete the 3D shape from RGB-D images. CoRe++ is a deep learning network that consists of a convolutional encoder and a decoder. The encoder compresses RGB-D images into latent vectors that are used by the decoder to complete the 3D shape using the deep signed distance field network (DeepSDF). To evaluate our CoRe++ network, we collected partial and complete 3D point clouds of 339 potato tubers on an operational harvester in Japan. On the 1425 RGB-D images in the test set (representing 51 unique potato tubers), our network achieved a completion accuracy of 2.8 mm on average. For volumetric estimation, the root mean squared error (RMSE) was 22.6 ml, and this was better than the RMSE of the linear regression (31.1 ml) and the base model (36.9 ml). We found that the RMSE can be further reduced to 18.2 ml when performing the 3D shape completion in the center of the RGB-D image. With an average 3D shape completion time of 10 milliseconds per tuber, we can conclude that CoRe++ is both fast and accurate enough to be implemented on an operational harvester for high-throughput potato yield estimation. CoRe++'s high-throughput and accurate processing allows it to be applied to other tuber, fruit and vegetable crops, thereby enabling versatile, accurate and real-time yield monitoring in precision agriculture. Experience-Driven Dynamic Exits for LLMs with Reinforcement LearningYanyu Zhu, Hoilam Pao, Niu Hu et al.
Large Language Models suffer from slow autoregressive inference. While self-speculative decoding accelerates this process, its efficiency is hampered by static configurations like fixed exit layers and speculation lengths. We reframe this optimization as a \textbf{Markov Decision Process} and propose \textbf{LEDE}, a framework that uses offline reinforcement learning. LEDE learns a policy to dynamically select the optimal exit layer and speculation length based on the local context of the generated sequence at each step, balancing computational cost and draft quality. Comprehensive evaluations on Llama-2 and Llama-3 models show LEDE achieves up to a $2.0\times$$\sim$$2.7\times$ speedup over autoregressive decoding and and provides an additional 17\% speedup over the static speculative baselines.

MAP: A Model-agnostic Pretraining Framework for Click-through Rate PredictionJianghao Lin, Yanru Qu, Wei Guo et al.
With the widespread application of personalized online services, click-through rate (CTR) prediction has received more and more attention and research. The most prominent features of CTR prediction are its multi-field categorical data format, and vast and daily-growing data volume. The large capacity of neural models helps digest such massive amounts of data under the supervised learning paradigm, yet they fail to utilize the substantial data to its full potential, since the 1-bit click signal is not sufficient to guide the model to learn capable representations of features and instances. The self-supervised learning paradigm provides a more promising pretrain-finetune solution to better exploit the large amount of user click logs, and learn more generalized and effective representations. However, self-supervised learning for CTR prediction is still an open question, since current works on this line are only preliminary and rudimentary. To this end, we propose a Model-agnostic pretraining (MAP) framework that applies feature corruption and recovery on multi-field categorical data, and more specifically, we derive two practical algorithms: masked feature prediction (MFP) and replaced feature detection (RFD). MFP digs into feature interactions within each instance through masking and predicting a small portion of input features, and introduces noise contrastive estimation (NCE) to handle large feature spaces. RFD further turns MFP into a binary classification mode through replacing and detecting changes in input features, making it even simpler and more effective for CTR pretraining. Our extensive experiments on two real-world large-scale datasets (i.e., Avazu, Criteo) demonstrate the advantages of these two methods on several strong backbones (e.g., DCNv2, DeepFM), and achieve new state-of-the-art performance in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency for CTR prediction.

Learning effective pruning at initialization from iterative pruningShengkai Liu, Yaofeng Cheng, Fusheng Zha et al.
Pruning at initialization (PaI) reduces training costs by removing weights before training, which becomes increasingly crucial with the growing network size. However, current PaI methods still have a large accuracy gap with iterative pruning, especially at high sparsity levels. This raises an intriguing question: can we get inspiration from iterative pruning to improve the PaI performance? In the lottery ticket hypothesis, the iterative rewind pruning (IRP) finds subnetworks retroactively by rewinding the parameter to the original initialization in every pruning iteration, which means all the subnetworks are based on the initial state. Here, we hypothesise the surviving subnetworks are more important and bridge the initial feature and their surviving score as the PaI criterion. We employ an end-to-end neural network (\textbf{AutoS}parse) to learn this correlation, input the model's initial features, output their score and then prune the lowest score parameters before training. To validate the accuracy and generalization of our method, we performed PaI across various models. Results show that our approach outperforms existing methods in high-sparsity settings. Notably, as the underlying logic of model pruning is consistent in different models, only one-time IRP on one model is needed (e.g., once IRP on ResNet-18/CIFAR-10, AutoS can be generalized to VGG-16/CIFAR-10, ResNet-18/TinyImageNet, et al.). As the first neural network-based PaI method, we conduct extensive experiments to validate the factors influencing this approach. These results reveal the learning tendencies of neural networks and provide new insights into our understanding and research of PaI from a practical perspective. Compared with model-based control and optimization methods, reinforcement learning (RL) provides a data-driven, learning-based framework to formulate and solve sequential decision-making problems. The RL framework has become promising due to largely improved data availability and computing power in the aviation industry. Many aviation-based applications can be formulated or treated as sequential decision-making problems. Some of them are offline planning problems, while others need to be solved online and are safety-critical. In this survey paper, we first describe standard RL formulations and solutions. Then we survey the landscape of existing RL-based applications in aviation. Finally, we summarize the paper, identify the technical gaps, and suggest future directions of RL research in aviation.

Universal Detection of Backdoor Attacks via Density-based Clustering and Centroids AnalysisWei Guo, Benedetta Tondi, Mauro Barni
We propose a Universal Defence against backdoor attacks based on Clustering and Centroids Analysis (CCA-UD). The goal of the defence is to reveal whether a Deep Neural Network model is subject to a backdoor attack by inspecting the training dataset. CCA-UD first clusters the samples of the training set by means of density-based clustering. Then, it applies a novel strategy to detect the presence of poisoned clusters. The proposed strategy is based on a general misclassification behaviour observed when the features of a representative example of the analysed cluster are added to benign samples. The capability of inducing a misclassification error is a general characteristic of poisoned samples, hence the proposed defence is attack-agnostic. This marks a significant difference with respect to existing defences, that, either can defend against only some types of backdoor attacks, or are effective only when some conditions on the poisoning ratio or the kind of triggering signal used by the attacker are satisfied. Experiments carried out on several classification tasks and network architectures, considering different types of backdoor attacks (with either clean or corrupted labels), and triggering signals, including both global and local triggering signals, as well as sample-specific and source-specific triggers, reveal that the proposed method is very effective to defend against backdoor attacks in all the cases, always outperforming the state of the art techniques.

A temporal chrominance trigger for clean-label backdoor attack against anti-spoof rebroadcast detectionWei Guo, Benedetta Tondi, Mauro Barni
We propose a stealthy clean-label video backdoor attack against Deep Learning (DL)-based models aiming at detecting a particular class of spoofing attacks, namely video rebroadcast attacks. The injected backdoor does not affect spoofing detection in normal conditions, but induces a misclassification in the presence of a specific triggering signal. The proposed backdoor relies on a temporal trigger altering the average chrominance of the video sequence. The backdoor signal is designed by taking into account the peculiarities of the Human Visual System (HVS) to reduce the visibility of the trigger, thus increasing the stealthiness of the backdoor. To force the network to look at the presence of the trigger in the challenging clean-label scenario, we choose the poisoned samples used for the injection of the backdoor following a so-called Outlier Poisoning Strategy (OPS). According to OPS, the triggering signal is inserted in the training samples that the network finds more difficult to classify. The effectiveness of the proposed backdoor attack and its generality are validated experimentally on different datasets and anti-spoofing rebroadcast detection architectures.

Entropy Law: The Story Behind Data Compression and LLM PerformanceMingjia Yin, Chuhan Wu, Yufei Wang et al.
Data is the cornerstone of large language models (LLMs), but not all data is useful for model learning. Carefully selected data can better elicit the capabilities of LLMs with much less computational overhead. Most methods concentrate on evaluating the quality of individual samples in data selection, while the combinatorial effects among samples are neglected. Even if each sample is of perfect quality, their combinations may be suboptimal in teaching LLMs due to their intrinsic homogeneity or contradiction. In this paper, we aim to uncover the underlying relationships between LLM performance and data selection. Inspired by the information compression nature of LLMs, we uncover an ``entropy law'' that connects LLM performance with data compression ratio and first-epoch training loss, which reflect the information redundancy of a dataset and the mastery of inherent knowledge encoded in this dataset, respectively. Through both theoretical deduction and empirical evaluation, we find that model performance is negatively correlated to the compression ratio of training data, which usually yields a lower training loss. Based on the findings of the entropy law, we propose a quite efficient and universal data selection method named \textbf{ZIP} for training LLMs, which aim to prioritize data subsets exhibiting a low compression ratio. Based on a multi-stage algorithm that selects diverse data in a greedy manner, we can obtain a good data subset with satisfactory diversity. Extensive experiments have been conducted to validate the entropy law and the superiority of ZIP across different LLM backbones and alignment stages. We also present an interesting application of entropy law that can detect potential performance risks at the beginning of model training.

A Survey on User Behavior Modeling in Recommender SystemsZhicheng He, Weiwen Liu, Wei Guo et al.
User Behavior Modeling (UBM) plays a critical role in user interest learning, which has been extensively used in recommender systems. Crucial interactive patterns between users and items have been exploited, which brings compelling improvements in many recommendation tasks. In this paper, we attempt to provide a thorough survey of this research topic. We start by reviewing the research background of UBM. Then, we provide a systematic taxonomy of existing UBM research works, which can be categorized into four different directions including Conventional UBM, Long-Sequence UBM, Multi-Type UBM, and UBM with Side Information. Within each direction, representative models and their strengths and weaknesses are comprehensively discussed. Besides, we elaborate on the industrial practices of UBM methods with the hope of providing insights into the application value of existing UBM solutions. Finally, we summarize the survey and discuss the future prospects of this field.

Coarse-to-Fine Knowledge-Enhanced Multi-Interest Learning Framework for Multi-Behavior RecommendationChang Meng, Ziqi Zhao, Wei Guo et al.
Multi-types of behaviors (e.g., clicking, adding to cart, purchasing, etc.) widely exist in most real-world recommendation scenarios, which are beneficial to learn users' multi-faceted preferences. As dependencies are explicitly exhibited by the multiple types of behaviors, effectively modeling complex behavior dependencies is crucial for multi-behavior prediction. The state-of-the-art multi-behavior models learn behavior dependencies indistinguishably with all historical interactions as input. However, different behaviors may reflect different aspects of user preference, which means that some irrelevant interactions may play as noises to the target behavior to be predicted. To address the aforementioned limitations, we introduce multi-interest learning to the multi-behavior recommendation. More specifically, we propose a novel Coarse-to-fine Knowledge-enhanced Multi-interest Learning (CKML) framework to learn shared and behavior-specific interests for different behaviors. CKML introduces two advanced modules, namely Coarse-grained Interest Extracting (CIE) and Fine-grained Behavioral Correlation (FBC), which work jointly to capture fine-grained behavioral dependencies. CIE uses knowledge-aware information to extract initial representations of each interest. FBC incorporates a dynamic routing scheme to further assign each behavior among interests. Additionally, we use the self-attention mechanism to correlate different behavioral information at the interest level. Empirical results on three real-world datasets verify the effectiveness and efficiency of our model in exploiting multi-behavior data. Further experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of each module and the robustness and superiority of the shared and specific modelling paradigm for multi-behavior data.

A Unified Two-Stage Generative Diffusion Framework for Channel Estimation and Port Selection in Multiuser MIMO-FASErqiang Tang, Wei Guo, Hengtao He et al.
Fluid antenna systems (FAS) have emerged as a promising technology for next-generation wireless systems. However, practical multiuser multiple-input multiple-output FAS (MIMO-FAS) faces two inherently coupled challenges: acquiring accurate high-dimensional channel state information (CSI) from limited RF chains and solving the combinatorial port selection problem, where the effectiveness of the latter highly depends on the result of the former. In this paper, we propose a unified two-stage diffusion framework that formulates the joint task as a maximum-a-posteriori (MAP) inference problem and decomposes it into two sequential sampling stages through a plug-in approximation. For Stage I, a continuous flow-based diffusion model serves as a powerful implicit prior for 2D FAS channels, and a parallel guided generation scheme realizes approximate posterior sampling, enabling accurate multiuser channel recovery even under severely low sub-sampling ratios. For Stage II, a discrete diffusion model is trained to approximate the conditional port selection distribution by combining supervised learning on heuristic labels with reinforcement fine-tuning, effectively overcoming the local optima of conventional heuristic algorithms. Extensive simulations demonstrate that the proposed framework simultaneously achieves exceptional channel estimation accuracy and globally optimized port selection, substantially improving the minimum achievable rate.

Prototype-Guided Robust Learning against Backdoor AttacksWei Guo, Maura Pintor, Ambra Demontis et al.
Backdoor attacks poison the training data, causing the model to behave normally on clean inputs but predict attacker-chosen labels when trigger patterns are embedded into the input samples. Defending against such attacks is highly challenging, especially when the defender has limited access to clean data. Existing defense methods often rely on restrictive assumptions-such as high poisoning ratios or poisoning strategies-limiting their practicality and generalization. To overcome these limitations, we propose Prototype-Guided Robust Learning (PGRL), a defense that only requires a small set of verified benign samples, and integrates two complementary components during fine-tuning: Label Consistency Verification (LCV), which detects and removes suspicious samples from the potentially poisoned dataset; and Feature Distance Estimation (FDE), which enforces the unlearning of backdoor-related representations. Extensive experiments against eight existing defenses show that PGRL achieves superior robustness across diverse architectures, datasets, and advanced attack scenarios, establishing a new standard for practical and generalizable backdoor defense.

POINav: Benchmarking and Enhancing Final-Meters Arrival in Real-World Vision-Language NavigationRuiyan Gong, Meisheng Zhang, Yuxiang Zhao et al.
Real-world navigation is fundamentally driven by Points of Interest (POIs), yet reaching a precise POI remains a critical "final-meters" challenge. Existing Vision-Language Navigation (VLN) benchmarks of POI-goal navigation often suffer from coarse granularity or significant sim-to-real gaps due to generated scene. To bridge this gap, we present POINav-Bench, the first benchmark designed for closed-loop evaluation of real-world POI-goal navigation. It comprises 11 commercial areas reconstructed from real-world captures using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), covering 126,398 $m^{2}$ in total and spanning 163 distinct POIs. With traversability-aware annotations and reference trajectories, POINav-Bench enables high-fidelity evaluation of navigation agents in realistic, POI-rich real-world environments. Building on this, we propose the POINav Brain-Action Framework where a Brain module performs POI-grounded reasoning to guide an Action module in predicting continuous waypoints for real-world execution. We further curate the POINav-Dataset, containing 70K real-world signage-entrance pairs. Experiments show that our framework provides a viable path toward refining real-world POI-goal navigation.

Recommendation model performance is intrinsically tied to the quality, volume, and relevance of their training data. To address common challenges like data sparsity and cold start, recent researchs have leveraged data from multiple auxiliary domains to enrich information within the target domain. However, inherent domain gaps can degrade the quality of mixed-domain data, leading to negative transfer and diminished model performance. Existing prevailing \emph{model-centric} paradigm -- which relies on complex, customized architectures -- struggles to capture the subtle, non-structural sequence dependencies across domains, leading to poor generalization and high demands on computational resources. To address these shortcomings, we propose \textsc{Taesar}, a \emph{data-centric} framework for \textbf{t}arget-\textbf{a}lign\textbf{e}d \textbf{s}equenti\textbf{a}l \textbf{r}egeneration, which employs a contrastive decoding mechanism to adaptively encode cross-domain context into target-domain sequences. It employs contrastive decoding to encode cross-domain context into target sequences, enabling standard models to learn intricate dependencies without complex fusion architectures. Experiments show \textsc{Taesar} outperforms model-centric solutions and generalizes to various sequential models. By generating enriched datasets, \textsc{Taesar} effectively combines the strengths of data- and model-centric paradigms. IE as Cache: Information Extraction Enhanced Agentic ReasoningHang Lv, Sheng Liang, Hongchao Gu et al.
Information Extraction aims to distill structured, decision-relevant information from unstructured text, serving as a foundation for downstream understanding and reasoning. However, it is traditionally treated merely as a terminal objective: once extracted, the resulting structure is often consumed in isolation rather than maintained and reused during multi-step inference. Moving beyond this, we propose \textit{IE-as-Cache}, a framework that repurposes IE as a cognitive cache to enhance agentic reasoning. Drawing inspiration from hierarchical computer memory, our approach combines query-driven extraction with cache-aware reasoning to dynamically maintain compact intermediate information and filter noise. Experiments on challenging benchmarks across diverse LLMs demonstrate significant improvements in reasoning accuracy, indicating that IE can be effectively repurposed as a reusable cognitive resource and offering a promising direction for future research on downstream uses of IE.

Rotated Object Detection via Scale-invariant Mahalanobis Distance in Aerial ImagesSiyang Wen, Wei Guo, Yi Liu et al.
Rotated object detection in aerial images is a meaningful yet challenging task as objects are densely arranged and have arbitrary orientations. The eight-parameter (coordinates of box vectors) methods in rotated object detection usually use ln-norm losses (L1 loss, L2 loss, and smooth L1 loss) as loss functions. As ln-norm losses are mainly based on non-scale-invariant Minkowski distance, using ln-norm losses will lead to inconsistency with the detection metric rotational Intersection-over-Union (IoU) and training instability. To address the problems, we use Mahalanobis distance to calculate loss between the predicted and the target box vertices' vectors, proposing a new loss function called Mahalanobis Distance Loss (MDL) for eight-parameter rotated object detection. As Mahalanobis distance is scale-invariant, MDL is more consistent with detection metric and more stable during training than ln-norm losses. To alleviate the problem of boundary discontinuity like all other eight-parameter methods, we further take the minimum loss value to make MDL continuous at boundary cases. We achieve state-of-art performance on DOTA-v1.0 with the proposed method MDL. Furthermore, compared to the experiment that uses smooth L1 loss, we find that MDL performs better in rotated object detection.

Intent-aware Multi-source Contrastive Alignment for Tag-enhanced RecommendationHaolun Wu, Yingxue Zhang, Chen Ma et al.
To offer accurate and diverse recommendation services, recent methods use auxiliary information to foster the learning process of user and item representations. Many SOTA methods fuse different sources of information (user, item, knowledge graph, tags, etc.) into a graph and use Graph Neural Networks to introduce the auxiliary information through the message passing paradigm. In this work, we seek an alternative framework that is light and effective through self-supervised learning across different sources of information, particularly for the commonly accessible item tag information. We use a self-supervision signal to pair users with the auxiliary information associated with the items they have interacted with before. To achieve the pairing, we create a proxy training task. For a given item, the model predicts the correct pairing between the representations obtained from the users that have interacted with this item and the assigned tags. This design provides an efficient solution, using the auxiliary information directly to enhance the quality of user and item embeddings. User behavior in recommendation systems is driven by the complex interactions of many factors behind the decision-making processes. To make the pairing process more fine-grained and avoid embedding collapse, we propose an intent-aware self-supervised pairing process where we split the user embeddings into multiple sub-embedding vectors. Each sub-embedding vector captures a specific user intent via self-supervised alignment with a particular cluster of tags. We integrate our designed framework with various recommendation models, demonstrating its flexibility and compatibility. Through comparison with numerous SOTA methods on seven real-world datasets, we show that our method can achieve better performance while requiring less training time. This indicates the potential of applying our approach on web-scale datasets.

Denoising Pre-Training and Customized Prompt Learning for Efficient Multi-Behavior Sequential RecommendationHao Wang, Yongqiang Han, Kefan Wang et al.
In the realm of recommendation systems, users exhibit a diverse array of behaviors when interacting with items. This phenomenon has spurred research into learning the implicit semantic relationships between these behaviors to enhance recommendation performance. However, these methods often entail high computational complexity. To address concerns regarding efficiency, pre-training presents a viable solution. Its objective is to extract knowledge from extensive pre-training data and fine-tune the model for downstream tasks. Nevertheless, previous pre-training methods have primarily focused on single-behavior data, while multi-behavior data contains significant noise. Additionally, the fully fine-tuning strategy adopted by these methods still imposes a considerable computational burden. In response to this challenge, we propose DPCPL, the first pre-training and prompt-tuning paradigm tailored for Multi-Behavior Sequential Recommendation. Specifically, in the pre-training stage, we commence by proposing a novel Efficient Behavior Miner (EBM) to filter out the noise at multiple time scales, thereby facilitating the comprehension of the contextual semantics of multi-behavior sequences. Subsequently, we propose to tune the pre-trained model in a highly efficient manner with the proposed Customized Prompt Learning (CPL) module, which generates personalized, progressive, and diverse prompts to fully exploit the potential of the pre-trained model effectively. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets have unequivocally demonstrated that DPCPL not only exhibits high efficiency and effectiveness, requiring minimal parameter adjustments but also surpasses the state-of-the-art performance across a diverse range of downstream tasks.

Wireless networks are increasingly facing challenges due to their expanding scale and complexity. These challenges underscore the need for advanced AI-driven strategies, particularly in the upcoming 6G networks. In this article, we introduce WirelessAgent, a novel approach leveraging large language models (LLMs) to develop AI agents capable of managing complex tasks in wireless networks. It can effectively improve network performance through advanced reasoning, multimodal data processing, and autonomous decision making. Thereafter, we demonstrate the practical applicability and benefits of WirelessAgent for network slicing management. The experimental results show that WirelessAgent is capable of accurately understanding user intent, effectively allocating slice resources, and consistently maintaining optimal performance.

We consider the outstanding problem of sampling from an unnormalized density that may be non-log-concave and multimodal. To enhance the performance of simple Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods, techniques of annealing type have been widely used. However, quantitative theoretical guarantees of these techniques are under-explored. This study takes a first step toward providing a non-asymptotic analysis of annealed MCMC. Specifically, we establish, for the first time, an oracle complexity of $\widetilde{O}\left(\frac{dβ^2{\cal A}^2}{\varepsilon^6}\right)$ for the simple annealed Langevin Monte Carlo algorithm to achieve $\varepsilon^2$ accuracy in Kullback-Leibler divergence to the target distribution $π\propto{\rm e}^{-V}$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $β$-smooth potential $V$. Here, ${\cal A}$ represents the action of a curve of probability measures interpolating the target distribution $π$ and a readily sampleable distribution.

Deep learning technology has made great achievements in the field of image. In order to defend against malware attacks, researchers have proposed many Windows malware detection models based on deep learning. However, deep learning models are vulnerable to adversarial example attacks. Malware can generate adversarial malware with the same malicious function to attack the malware detection model and evade detection of the model. Currently, many adversarial defense studies have been proposed, but existing adversarial defense studies are based on image sample and cannot be directly applied to malware sample. Therefore, this paper proposes an adversarial malware defense method based on adversarial training. This method uses preprocessing to defend simple adversarial examples to reduce the difficulty of adversarial training. Moreover, this method improves the adversarial defense capability of the model through adversarial training. We experimented with three attack methods in two sets of datasets, and the results show that the method in this paper can improve the adversarial defense capability of the model without reducing the accuracy of the model.

PointRAFT: 3D deep learning for high-throughput prediction of potato tuber weight from partial point cloudsPieter M. Blok, Haozhou Wang, Hyun Kwon Suh et al.
Potato yield is a key indicator for optimizing cultivation practices in agriculture. Potato yield can be estimated on harvesters using RGB-D cameras, which capture three-dimensional (3D) information of individual tubers moving along the conveyor belt. However, point clouds reconstructed from RGB-D images are incomplete due to self-occlusion, leading to systematic underestimation of tuber weight. To address this, we introduce PointRAFT, a high-throughput point cloud regression network that directly predicts continuous 3D shape properties, such as tuber weight, from partial point clouds. Rather than reconstructing full 3D geometry, PointRAFT infers target values directly from raw 3D data. Its key architectural novelty is an object height embedding that incorporates tuber height as an additional geometric cue, improving weight prediction under practical harvesting conditions. PointRAFT was trained and evaluated on 26,688 partial point clouds collected from 859 potato tubers across four cultivars and three growing seasons on an operational harvester in Japan. On a test set of 5,254 point clouds from 172 tubers, PointRAFT achieved a mean absolute error of 12.0 g and a root mean squared error of 17.2 g, substantially outperforming a linear regression baseline and a standard PointNet++ regression network. With an average inference time of 6.3 ms per point cloud, PointRAFT supports processing rates of up to 150 tubers per second, meeting the high-throughput requirements of commercial potato harvesters. Beyond potato weight estimation, PointRAFT provides a versatile regression network applicable to a wide range of 3D phenotyping and robotic perception tasks. With the increasing complexity of collaboration among various social entities and user demands, the factors affecting the stable development of the data service market are also growing. These factors include the widespread dissemination of information enhancing subjective consciousness, the continuous improvement in intelligence, and the complexification of structural relationships. To achieve effective governance and regulation of the data service market, it is crucial to conduct simulation experiments before making regulatory decisions. However, current research and analysis of the data service market primarily focus on data-level performance, proving inadequate when it comes to measurement and analysis of multiple heterogeneous entities and the integration of various social elements within the data service market. Based on this, this paper innovatively proposes a data service market measurement and network analysis method based on heterogeneous multi-agent modeling. By introducing the service ecosystem theory, we clarify the participants and external factors of the data service market and conduct utility measurements for three-level entities based on value creation. Furthermore, an analytical methodology is devised to precisely assess the influence of heterogeneous networks on utility. Finally, the paper verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method through the analysis of experimental results.

Remote sensing semantic segmentation aims to assign automatically each pixel on aerial images with specific label. In this letter, we proposed a new module, called improved-flow warp module (IFWM), to adjust semantic feature maps across different scales for remote sensing semantic segmentation. The improved-flow warp module is applied along with the feature extraction process in the convolutional neural network. First, IFWM computes the offsets of pixels by a learnable way, which can alleviate the misalignment of the multi-scale features. Second, the offsets help with the low-resolution deep feature up-sampling process to improve the feature accordance, which boosts the accuracy of semantic segmentation. We validate our method on several remote sensing datasets, and the results prove the effectiveness of our method..

SpecSteer: Synergizing Local Context and Global Reasoning for Efficient Personalized GenerationHang Lv, Sheng Liang, Hao Wang et al.
Realizing personalized intelligence faces a core dilemma: sending user history to centralized large language models raises privacy concerns, while on-device small language models lack the reasoning capacity required for high-quality generation. Our pilot study shows that purely local enhancements remain insufficient to reliably bridge this gap. We therefore propose SpecSteer, an asymmetric collaborative inference framework that synergizes private on-device context with cloud-scale reasoning. SpecSteer casts collaboration as Bayesian knowledge fusion and repurposes speculative decoding as a distributed alignment protocol, yielding a Draft--Verify--Recover pipeline: the on-device model drafts personalized sequences; the cloud validates via a ratio-based mechanism that decouples reasoning verification from private context, filtering logical flaws without accessing raw user context; upon rejection, a steering recovery injects local intent during correction. Experiments demonstrate that SpecSteer successfully closes the reasoning gap and achieves superior personalized generation performance, while delivering a 2.36x speedup over standard baselines.

SPROUT: A Scalable Diffusion Foundation Model for Agricultural VisionShuai Xiang, Wei Guo, James Burridge et al.
Vision Foundation Models (VFM) pre-trained on large-scale unlabeled data have achieved remarkable success on general computer vision tasks, yet typically suffer from significant domain gaps when applied to agriculture. In this context, we introduce $SPROUT$ ($S$calable $P$lant $R$epresentation model via $O$pen-field $U$nsupervised $T$raining), a multi-crop, multi-task agricultural foundation model trained via diffusion denoising. SPROUT leverages a VAE-free Pixel-space Diffusion Transformer to learn rich, structure-aware representations through denoising and enabling efficient end-to-end training. We pre-train SPROUT on a curated dataset of 2.6 million high-quality agricultural images spanning diverse crops, growth stages, and environments. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SPROUT consistently outperforms state-of-the-art web-pretrained and agricultural foundation models across a wide range of downstream tasks, while requiring substantially lower pre-training cost. Flexible and Robust Counterfactual Explanations with Minimal Satisfiable PerturbationsYongjie Wang, Hangwei Qian, Yongjie Liu et al.
Counterfactual explanations (CFEs) exemplify how to minimally modify a feature vector to achieve a different prediction for an instance. CFEs can enhance informational fairness and trustworthiness, and provide suggestions for users who receive adverse predictions. However, recent research has shown that multiple CFEs can be offered for the same instance or instances with slight differences. Multiple CFEs provide flexible choices and cover diverse desiderata for user selection. However, individual fairness and model reliability will be damaged if unstable CFEs with different costs are returned. Existing methods fail to exploit flexibility and address the concerns of non-robustness simultaneously. To address these issues, we propose a conceptually simple yet effective solution named Counterfactual Explanations with Minimal Satisfiable Perturbations (CEMSP). Specifically, CEMSP constrains changing values of abnormal features with the help of their semantically meaningful normal ranges. For efficiency, we model the problem as a Boolean satisfiability problem to modify as few features as possible. Additionally, CEMSP is a general framework and can easily accommodate more practical requirements, e.g., casualty and actionability. Compared to existing methods, we conduct comprehensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets to demonstrate that our method provides more robust explanations while preserving flexibility.

MetaDNS: Enhancing Exploration in Discrete Neural Samplers via Well-Tempered MetadynamicsXiaochen Du, Juno Nam, Jaemoo Choi et al.
Sampling from discrete distributions with multiple modes and energy barriers is fundamental to machine learning and computational physics. Recent discrete neural samplers like MDNS suffer from mode collapse and fail to sample high-energy barrier regions between modes, which is critical for free energy estimation and understanding phase transitions. We propose Metadynamics Discrete Neural Sampler (MetaDNS), a general framework integrating well-tempered metadynamics into discrete diffusion or autoregressive samplers. By maintaining an adaptive, history-dependent bias potential along selected low-dimensional coordinates, MetaDNS forces exploration of previously inaccessible regions, enabling free energy reconstruction infeasible with standard neural samplers due to a lack of high-energy samples. On challenging low-temperature benchmarks including Ising, Potts, and the copper-gold binary alloy, MetaDNS reproduces the thermodynamic distribution. Compared to MCMC-based metadynamics, MetaDNS also achieves comparable exploration requiring fewer bias deposition steps.

Bridging the Indoor-Outdoor Gap: Vision-Centric Instruction-Guided Embodied Navigation for the Last MetersYuxiang Zhao, Yirong Yang, Yanqing Zhu et al.
Embodied navigation holds significant promise for real-world applications such as last-mile delivery. However, most existing approaches are confined to either indoor or outdoor environments and rely heavily on strong assumptions, such as access to precise coordinate systems. While current outdoor methods can guide agents to the vicinity of a target using coarse-grained localization, they fail to enable fine-grained entry through specific building entrances, critically limiting their utility in practical deployment scenarios that require seamless outdoor-to-indoor transitions. To bridge this gap, we introduce a novel task: out-to-in prior-free instruction-driven embodied navigation. This formulation explicitly eliminates reliance on accurate external priors, requiring agents to navigate solely based on egocentric visual observations guided by instructions. To tackle this task, we propose a vision-centric embodied navigation framework that leverages image-based prompts to drive decision-making. Additionally, we present the first open-source dataset for this task, featuring a pipeline that integrates trajectory-conditioned video synthesis into the data generation process. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our proposed method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines across key metrics including success rate and path efficiency.

Continuous Diffusion Scales Competitively with Discrete Diffusion for LanguageZhihan Yang, Wei Guo, Shuibai Zhang et al.
While diffusion has drawn considerable recent attention from the language modeling community, continuous diffusion has appeared less scalable than discrete approaches. To challenge this belief we revisit Plaid, a likelihood-based continuous diffusion language model (DLM), and construct RePlaid by aligning the architecture of Plaid with modern discrete DLMs. In this unified setting, we establish the first scaling law for continuous DLMs that rivals discrete DLMs: RePlaid exhibits a compute gap of only $20\times$ compared to autoregressive models, outperforms Duo while using fewer parameters, and outperforms MDLM in the over-trained regime. We benchmark RePlaid against recent continuous DLMs: on OpenWebText, RePlaid achieves a new state-of-the-art PPL bound of $22.1$ among continuous DLMs and superior generation quality. These results suggest that continuous diffusion, when trained via likelihood, is a highly competitive and scalable alternative to discrete DLMs. Moreover, we offer theoretical insights to understand the advantage of likelihood-based training. We show that optimizing the noise schedule to minimize the ELBO's variance naturally yields linear cross-entropy (information loss) over time. This evenly distributes denoising difficulty without any case-specific time reparameterization. In addition, we find that optimizing embeddings via likelihood creates structured geometries and drives the most significant likelihood gain.

RelayGR: Scaling Long-Sequence Generative Recommendation via Cross-Stage Relay-Race InferenceJiarui Wang, Huichao Chai, Yuanhang Zhang et al.
Real-time recommender systems execute multi-stage cascades (retrieval, pre-processing, fine-grained ranking) under strict tail-latency SLOs, leaving only tens of milliseconds for ranking. Generative recommendation (GR) models can improve quality by consuming long user-behavior sequences, but in production their online sequence length is tightly capped by the ranking-stage P99 budget. We observe that the majority of GR tokens encode user behaviors that are independent of the item candidates, suggesting an opportunity to pre-infer a user-behavior prefix once and reuse it during ranking rather than recomputing it on the critical path. Realizing this idea at industrial scale is non-trivial: the prefix cache must survive across multiple pipeline stages before the final ranking instance is determined, the user population implies cache footprints far beyond a single device, and indiscriminate pre-inference would overload shared resources under high QPS. We present RelayGR, a production system that enables in-HBM relay-race inference for GR. RelayGR selectively pre-infers long-term user prefixes, keeps their KV caches resident in HBM over the request lifecycle, and ensures the subsequent ranking can consume them without remote fetches. RelayGR combines three techniques: 1) a sequence-aware trigger that admits only at-risk requests under a bounded cache footprint and pre-inference load, 2) an affinity-aware router that co-locates cache production and consumption by routing both the auxiliary pre-infer signal and the ranking request to the same instance, and 3) a memory-aware expander that uses server-local DRAM to capture short-term cross-request reuse while avoiding redundant reloads. We implement RelayGR on Huawei Ascend NPUs and evaluate it with real queries. Under a fixed P99 SLO, RelayGR supports up to 1.5$\times$ longer sequences and improves SLO-compliant throughput by up to 3.6$\times$.

GuiDINO: Rethinking Vision Foundation Model in Medical Image SegmentationZhuonan Liang, Wei Guo, Jie Gan et al.
Foundation vision models are increasingly adopted in medical image analysis. Due to domain shift, these pretrained models misalign with medical image segmentation needs without being fully fine-tuned or lightly adapted. We introduce GuiDINO, a framework that repositions native foundation model to acting as a visual guidance generator for downstream segmentation. GuiDINO extracts visual feature representation from DINOv3 and converts them into a spatial guide mask via a lightweight TokenBook mechanism, which aggregates token-prototype similarities. This guide mask gates feature activations in multiple segmentation backbones, thereby injecting foundation-model priors while preserving the inductive biases and efficiency of medical dedicated architectures. Training relies on a guide supervision objective loss that aligns the guide mask to ground-truth regions, optionally augmented by a boundary-focused hinge loss to sharpen fine structures. GuiDINO also supports parameter-efficient adaptation through LoRA on the DINOv3 guide backbone. Across diverse medical datasets and nnUNet-style inference, GuiDINO consistently improves segmentation quality and boundary robustness, suggesting a practical alternative to fine-tuning and offering a new perspective on how foundation models can best serve medical vision. ReCast: Recasting Learning Signals for Reinforcement Learning in Generative RecommendationPeiyan Zhang, Hanmo Liu, Chengxuan Tong et al.
Generic group-based RL assumes that sampled rollout groups are already usable learning signals. We show that this assumption breaks down in sparse-hit generative recommendation, where many sampled groups never become learnable at all. We propose ReCast, a repair-then-contrast learning-signal framework that first restores minimal learnability for all-zero groups and then replaces full-group reward normalization with a boundary-focused contrastive update on the strongest positive and the hardest negative. ReCast leaves the outer RL framework unchanged, modifies only within-group signal construction, and partially decouples rollout search width from actor-side update width. Across multiple generative recommendation tasks, ReCast consistently outperforms OpenOneRec-RL, achieving up to 36.6% relative improvement in Pass@1. Its matched-budget advantage is substantially larger: ReCast reaches the baseline's target performance with only 4.1% of the rollout budget, and this advantage widens with model scale. The same design also yields direct system-level gains, reducing actor-side update time by 16.60x, lowering peak allocated memory by 16.5%, and improving actor MFU by 14.2%. Mechanism analysis shows that ReCast mitigates the persistent all-zero / single-hit regime, restores learnability when natural positives are scarce, and converts otherwise wasted rollout budget into more stable policy updates. These results suggest that, for generative recommendation, the decisive RL problem is not only how to assign rewards, but how to construct learnable optimization events from sparse, structured supervision.

We study the problem of learning a neural sampler to generate samples from discrete state spaces where the target probability mass function $π\propto\mathrm{e}^{-U}$ is known up to a normalizing constant, which is an important task in fields such as statistical physics, machine learning, combinatorial optimization, etc. To better address this challenging task when the state space has a large cardinality and the distribution is multi-modal, we propose $\textbf{M}$asked $\textbf{D}$iffusion $\textbf{N}$eural $\textbf{S}$ampler ($\textbf{MDNS}$), a novel framework for training discrete neural samplers by aligning two path measures through a family of learning objectives, theoretically grounded in the stochastic optimal control of the continuous-time Markov chains. We validate the efficiency and scalability of MDNS through extensive experiments on various distributions with distinct statistical properties, where MDNS learns to accurately sample from the target distributions despite the extremely high problem dimensions and outperforms other learning-based baselines by a large margin. A comprehensive study of ablations and extensions is also provided to demonstrate the efficacy and potential of the proposed framework. Unlearning Noise in PINNs: A Selective Pruning Framework for PDE Inverse ProblemsYongsheng Chen, Yong Chen, Wei Guo et al.
Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) provide a promising framework for solving inverse problems governed by partial differential equations (PDEs) by integrating observational data and physical constraints in a unified optimization objective. However, the ill-posed nature of PDE inverse problems makes them highly sensitive to noise. Even a small fraction of corrupted observations can distort internal neural representations, severely impairing accuracy and destabilizing training. Motivated by recent advances in machine unlearning and structured network pruning, we propose P-PINN, a selective pruning framework designed to unlearn the influence of corrupted data in a pretrained PINN. Specifically, starting from a PINN trained on the full dataset, P-PINN evaluates a joint residual--data fidelity indicator, a weighted combination of data misfit and PDE residuals, to partition the training set into reliable and corrupted subsets. Next, we introduce a bias-based neuron importance measure that quantifies directional activation discrepancies between the two subsets, identifying neurons whose representations are predominantly driven by corrupted samples. Building on this, an iterative pruning strategy then removes noise-sensitive neurons layer by layer. The resulting pruned network is fine-tuned on the reliable data subject to the original PDE constraints, acting as a lightweight post-processing stage rather than a complete retraining. Numerical experiments on extensive PDE inverse-problem benchmarks demonstrate that P-PINN substantially improves robustness, accuracy, and training stability under noisy conditions, achieving up to a 96.6\% reduction in relative error compared with baseline PINNs. These results indicate that activation-level post hoc pruning is a promising mechanism for enhancing the reliability of physics-informed learning in noise-contaminated settings.

HiFloat4 Format for Language Model Pre-training on Ascend NPUsMehran Taghian, Yunke Peng, Xing Huang et al.
Large foundation models have become central to modern machine learning, with performance scaling predictably with model size and data. However, training and deploying such models incur substantial computational and memory costs, motivating the development of low-precision training techniques. Recent work has demonstrated that 4-bit floating-point (FP4) formats--such as MXFP4 and NVFP4--can be successfully applied to linear GEMM operations in large language models (LLMs), achieving up to 4x improvements in compute throughput and memory efficiency compared to higher-precision baselines. In this work, we investigate the recently proposed HiFloat4 FP4 format for Huawei Ascend NPUs and systematically compare it with MXFP4 in large-scale training settings. All experiments are conducted on Ascend NPU clusters, with linear and expert GEMM operations performed entirely in FP4 precision. We evaluate both dense architectures (e.g., Pangu and LLaMA-style models) and mixture-of-experts (MoE) models, where both standard linear layers and expert-specific GEMMs operate in FP4. Furthermore, we explore stabilization techniques tailored to FP4 training that significantly reduce numerical degradation, maintaining relative error within 1% of full-precision baselines while preserving the efficiency benefits of 4-bit computation. Our results provide a comprehensive empirical study of FP4 training on NPUs and highlight the practical trade-offs between FP4 formats in large-scale dense and MoE models.

Beyond Individual Intelligence: Surveying Collaboration, Failure Attribution, and Self-Evolution in LLM-based Multi-Agent SystemsShihao Qi, Jie Ma, Rui Xing et al.
LLM-based autonomous agents have demonstrated strong capabilities in reasoning, planning, and tool use, yet remain limited when tasks require sustained coordination across roles, tools, and environments. Multi-agent systems address this through structured collaboration among specialized agents, but tighter coordination also amplifies a less explored risk: errors can propagate across agents and interaction rounds, producing failures that are difficult to diagnose and rarely translate into structural self-improvement. Existing surveys cover individual agent capabilities, multi-agent collaboration, or agent self-evolution separately, leaving the causal dependencies among them unexamined. This survey provides a unified review organized around four causally linked stages, which we term the LIFE progression: Lay the capability foundation, Integrate agents through collaboration, Find faults through attribution, and Evolve through autonomous self-improvement. For each stage, we provide systematic taxonomies and formally characterize the dependencies between adjacent stages, revealing how each stage both depends on and constrains the next. Beyond synthesizing existing work, we identify open challenges at stage boundaries and propose a cross-stage research agenda for closed-loop multi-agent systems capable of continuously diagnosing failures, reorganizing structures, and refining agent behaviors, extending current coordination frameworks toward more self-organizing forms of collective intelligence. By bridging these previously fragmented research threads, this survey aims to offer both a systematic reference and a conceptual roadmap toward autonomous, self-improving multi-agent intelligence.

Rethinking the Design Space of Reinforcement Learning for Diffusion Models: On the Importance of Likelihood Estimation Beyond Loss DesignJaemoo Choi, Yuchen Zhu, Wei Guo et al.
Reinforcement learning has been widely applied to diffusion and flow models for visual tasks such as text-to-image generation. However, these tasks remain challenging because diffusion models have intractable likelihoods, which creates a barrier for directly applying popular policy-gradient type methods. Existing approaches primarily focus on crafting new objectives built on already heavily engineered LLM objectives, using ad hoc estimators for likelihood, without a thorough investigation into how such estimation affects overall algorithmic performance. In this work, we provide a systematic analysis of the RL design space by disentangling three factors: i) policy-gradient objectives, ii) likelihood estimators, and iii) rollout sampling schemes. We show that adopting an evidence lower bound (ELBO) based model likelihood estimator, computed only from the final generated sample, is the dominant factor enabling effective, efficient, and stable RL optimization, outweighing the impact of the specific policy-gradient loss functional. We validate our findings across multiple reward benchmarks using SD 3.5 Medium, and observe consistent trends across all tasks. Our method improves the GenEval score from 0.24 to 0.95 in 90 GPU hours, which is $4.6\times$ more efficient than FlowGRPO and $2\times$ more efficient than the SOTA method DiffusionNFT without reward hacking.

Learning discrete neural samplers is challenging due to the lack of gradients and combinatorial complexity. While stochastic optimal control (SOC) and Schrödinger bridge (SB) provide principled solutions, efficient SOC solvers like adjoint matching (AM), which excel in continuous domains, remain unexplored for discrete spaces. We bridge this gap by revealing that the core mechanism of AM is $\mathit{state}\text{-}\mathit{space~agnostic}$, and introduce $\mathbf{discrete~ASBS}$, a unified framework that extends AM and adjoint Schrödinger bridge sampler (ASBS) to discrete spaces. Theoretically, we analyze the optimality conditions of the discrete SB problem and its connection to SOC, identifying a necessary cyclic group structure on the state space to enable this extension. Empirically, discrete ASBS achieves competitive sample quality with significant advantages in training efficiency and scalability.

TurboGR: An Accelerated Training System for Large-Scale Generative RecommendationHuichao Chai, Zhixin Wu, Xuemiao Li et al.
Generative recommendation (GR) has emerged as a promising paradigm that replaces fragmented, scenario-specific architectures with unified Transformer-based models, exhibiting scaling-law behavior where recommendation quality improves systematically with increased model capacity and training data. However, deploying GR at scale on Ascend NPUs faces fundamental system-level challenges. These challenges are further exacerbated on Ascend NPUs due to the absence of high-performance implementations for jagged operators and the architectural mismatch between irregular sparse primitives and NPU's dense-computation-optimized design. In this paper, we present \model, an Ascend-affinity training system for generative recommendation that systematically addresses these bottlenecks through three core innovations: (i) Ascend-affinity jagged acceleration, including fusion operators that eliminate padding redundancy and dynamic load balancing that reduces inter-device imbalance from 47\% to 2.4\%; (ii) distributed communication optimization, comprising hierarchical sparse parallelism, semi-asynchronous training with proven convergence guarantees, and fine-grained pipeline orchestration that sustains 94\% NPU utilization; and (iii) negative sampling optimization via asynchronous offloading, jaggedness-aware FP16 quantization, and intra-batch logit sharing that expand the effective negative space without additional embedding lookups. Evaluated on the KuaiRand-27K dataset, \model supports training at up to 0.2B parameters and achieves 54.71\% MFU with near-linear scalability (0.97).

Hypernetwork-Conditioned WENO5 Conservative-Form CNNs for One-Dimensional Conservation LawsYongsheng Chen, Wei Guo, Xinghui Zhong
We study a conservative data-driven discretization for one-dimensional hyperbolic conservation laws based on the classical fifth-order WENO finite-volume scheme and a hypernetwork architecture. In the proposed Hyper--WENO5 Conservative-Form Convolutional Neural Network (Hyper--CFCNN), a lightweight target network predicts the nonlinear WENO weights on each stencil, while a hypernetwork generates the target-network parameters from problem metadata, including the mesh spacing, mesh layout, and coarse descriptors of the initial condition. The construction preserves the standard polynomial reconstruction and conservative flux-difference update of WENO, which enables adaptation across problem instances and spatial resolutions without retraining. We also consider an unknown-flux variant, Hyper--CFCNN--F, in which a compact FluxNet is used in place of the analytical flux inside the numerical flux function while retaining a conservative update form. To improve long-time prediction quality, training uses a multi-step recurrent loss that penalizes error accumulation over successive time advances. Numerical experiments on one-dimensional test problems, including single- and multi-shock Burgers equations, the shallow-water system, and the Shu--Osher Euler example, show that Hyper--CFCNN attains accuracy comparable to classical WENO5, achieves near machine-precision conservation in the known-flux setting on fine meshes, and generalizes to unseen spatial resolutions and initial conditions without retraining. The flux-learning variant remains stable on meshes outside the training set and exhibits bounded conservation drift. These results show that hypernetwork-conditioned conservative WENO discretizations provide an effective framework for adaptive high-order learning of nonlinear conservation laws with either known or unknown fluxes.

Can LLMs Outshine Conventional Recommenders? A Comparative EvaluationQijiong Liu, Jieming Zhu, Lu Fan et al.
In recent years, integrating large language models (LLMs) into recommender systems has created new opportunities for improving recommendation quality. However, a comprehensive benchmark is needed to thoroughly evaluate and compare the recommendation capabilities of LLMs with traditional recommender systems. In this paper, we introduce RecBench, which systematically investigates various item representation forms (including unique identifier, text, semantic embedding, and semantic identifier) and evaluates two primary recommendation tasks, i.e., click-through rate prediction (CTR) and sequential recommendation (SeqRec). Our extensive experiments cover up to 17 large models and are conducted across five diverse datasets from fashion, news, video, books, and music domains. Our findings indicate that LLM-based recommenders outperform conventional recommenders, achieving up to a 5% AUC improvement in the CTR scenario and up to a 170% NDCG@10 improvement in the SeqRec scenario. However, these substantial performance gains come at the expense of significantly reduced inference efficiency, rendering the LLM-as-RS paradigm impractical for real-time recommendation environments. We aim for our findings to inspire future research, including recommendation-specific model acceleration methods. We will release our code, data, configurations, and platform to enable other researchers to reproduce and build upon our experimental results.

Thought-Augmented Planning for LLM-Powered Interactive Recommender AgentHaocheng Yu, Yaxiong Wu, Hao Wang et al.
Interactive recommendation is a typical information-seeking task that allows users to interactively express their needs through natural language and obtain personalized recommendations. Large language model-powered (LLM-powered) agents have become a new paradigm in interactive recommendations, effectively capturing users' real-time needs and enhancing personalized experiences. However, due to limited planning and generalization capabilities, existing formulations of LLM-powered interactive recommender agents struggle to effectively address diverse and complex user intents, such as intuitive, unrefined, or occasionally ambiguous requests. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel thought-augmented interactive recommender agent system (TAIRA) that addresses complex user intents through distilled thought patterns. Specifically, TAIRA is designed as an LLM-powered multi-agent system featuring a manager agent that orchestrates recommendation tasks by decomposing user needs and planning subtasks, with its planning capacity strengthened through Thought Pattern Distillation (TPD), a thought-augmentation method that extracts high-level thoughts from the agent's and human experts' experiences. Moreover, we designed a set of user simulation schemes to generate personalized queries of different difficulties and evaluate the recommendations based on specific datasets. Through comprehensive experiments conducted across multiple datasets, TAIRA exhibits significantly enhanced performance compared to existing methods. Notably, TAIRA shows a greater advantage on more challenging tasks while generalizing effectively on novel tasks, further validating its superiority in managing complex user intents within interactive recommendation systems.
