REB: Reducing Biases in Representation for Industrial Anomaly DetectionShuai Lyu, Dongmei Mo, Waikeung Wong
Existing representation-based methods usually conduct industrial anomaly detection in two stages: obtain feature representations with a pre-trained model and perform distance measures for anomaly detection. Among them, K-nearest neighbor (KNN) retrieval-based anomaly detection methods show promising results. However, the features are not fully exploited as these methods ignore domain bias of pre-trained models and the difference of local density in feature space, which limits the detection performance. In this paper, we propose Reducing Biases (REB) in representation by considering the domain bias and building a self-supervised learning task for better domain adaption with a defect generation strategy (DefectMaker) that ensures a strong diversity in the synthetic defects. Additionally, we propose a local-density KNN (LDKNN) to reduce the local density bias in the feature space and obtain effective anomaly detection. The proposed REB method achieves a promising result of 99.5\% Im.AUROC on the widely used MVTec AD, with smaller backbone networks such as Vgg11 and Resnet18. The method also achieves an impressive 88.8\% Im.AUROC on the MVTec LOCO AD dataset and a remarkable 96.0\% on the BTAD dataset, outperforming other representation-based approaches. These results indicate the effectiveness and efficiency of REB for practical industrial applications. Code:https://github.com/ShuaiLYU/REB.

Effective Transfer of Pretrained Large Visual Model for Fabric Defect Segmentation via Specifc Knowledge InjectionZhewei Chen, Wai Keung Wong, Zuofeng Zhong et al.
Fabric defect segmentation is integral to textile quality control. Despite this, the scarcity of high-quality annotated data and the diversity of fabric defects present significant challenges to the application of deep learning in this field. These factors limit the generalization and segmentation performance of existing models, impeding their ability to handle the complexity of diverse fabric types and defects. To overcome these obstacles, this study introduces an innovative method to infuse specialized knowledge of fabric defects into the Segment Anything Model (SAM), a large-scale visual model. By introducing and training a unique set of fabric defect-related parameters, this approach seamlessly integrates domain-specific knowledge into SAM without the need for extensive modifications to the pre-existing model parameters. The revamped SAM model leverages generalized image understanding learned from large-scale natural image datasets while incorporating fabric defect-specific knowledge, ensuring its proficiency in fabric defect segmentation tasks. The experimental results reveal a significant improvement in the model's segmentation performance, attributable to this novel amalgamation of generic and fabric-specific knowledge. When benchmarking against popular existing segmentation models across three datasets, our proposed model demonstrates a substantial leap in performance. Its impressive results in cross-dataset comparisons and few-shot learning experiments further demonstrate its potential for practical applications in textile quality control.

Dress Well via Fashion Cognitive LearningKaicheng Pang, Xingxing Zou, Waikeung Wong
Fashion compatibility models enable online retailers to easily obtain a large number of outfit compositions with good quality. However, effective fashion recommendation demands precise service for each customer with a deeper cognition of fashion. In this paper, we conduct the first study on fashion cognitive learning, which is fashion recommendations conditioned on personal physical information. To this end, we propose a Fashion Cognitive Network (FCN) to learn the relationships among visual-semantic embedding of outfit composition and appearance features of individuals. FCN contains two submodules, namely outfit encoder and Multi-label Graph Neural Network (ML-GCN). The outfit encoder uses a convolutional layer to encode an outfit into an outfit embedding. The latter module learns label classifiers via stacked GCN. We conducted extensive experiments on the newly collected O4U dataset, and the results provide strong qualitative and quantitative evidence that our framework outperforms alternative methods.
MVREC: A General Few-shot Defect Classification Model Using Multi-View Region-ContextShuai Lyu, Rongchen Zhang, Zeqi Ma et al.
Few-shot defect multi-classification (FSDMC) is an emerging trend in quality control within industrial manufacturing. However, current FSDMC research often lacks generalizability due to its focus on specific datasets. Additionally, defect classification heavily relies on contextual information within images, and existing methods fall short of effectively extracting this information. To address these challenges, we propose a general FSDMC framework called MVREC, which offers two primary advantages: (1) MVREC extracts general features for defect instances by incorporating the pre-trained AlphaCLIP model. (2) It utilizes a region-context framework to enhance defect features by leveraging mask region input and multi-view context augmentation. Furthermore, Few-shot Zip-Adapter(-F) classifiers within the model are introduced to cache the visual features of the support set and perform few-shot classification. We also introduce MVTec-FS, a new FSDMC benchmark based on MVTec AD, which includes 1228 defect images with instance-level mask annotations and 46 defect types. Extensive experiments conducted on MVTec-FS and four additional datasets demonstrate its effectiveness in general defect classification and its ability to incorporate contextual information to improve classification performance. Task-Augmented Cross-View Imputation Network for Partial Multi-View Incomplete Multi-Label ClassificationLian Zhao, Jie Wen, Xiaohuan Lu et al.
In real-world scenarios, multi-view multi-label learning often encounters the challenge of incomplete training data due to limitations in data collection and unreliable annotation processes. The absence of multi-view features impairs the comprehensive understanding of samples, omitting crucial details essential for classification. To address this issue, we present a task-augmented cross-view imputation network (TACVI-Net) for the purpose of handling partial multi-view incomplete multi-label classification. Specifically, we employ a two-stage network to derive highly task-relevant features to recover the missing views. In the first stage, we leverage the information bottleneck theory to obtain a discriminative representation of each view by extracting task-relevant information through a view-specific encoder-classifier architecture. In the second stage, an autoencoder based multi-view reconstruction network is utilized to extract high-level semantic representation of the augmented features and recover the missing data, thereby aiding the final classification task. Extensive experiments on five datasets demonstrate that our TACVI-Net outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Leveraging Multiple Relations for Fashion Trend Forecasting Based on Social MediaYujuan Ding, Yunshan Ma, Lizi Liao et al.
Fashion trend forecasting is of great research significance in providing useful suggestions for both fashion companies and fashion lovers. Although various studies have been devoted to tackling this challenging task, they only studied limited fashion elements with highly seasonal or simple patterns, which could hardly reveal the real complex fashion trends. Moreover, the mainstream solutions for this task are still statistical-based and solely focus on time-series data modeling, which limit the forecast accuracy. Towards insightful fashion trend forecasting, previous work [1] proposed to analyze more fine-grained fashion elements which can informatively reveal fashion trends. Specifically, it focused on detailed fashion element trend forecasting for specific user groups based on social media data. In addition, it proposed a neural network-based method, namely KERN, to address the problem of fashion trend modeling and forecasting. In this work, to extend the previous work, we propose an improved model named Relation Enhanced Attention Recurrent (REAR) network. Compared to KERN, the REAR model leverages not only the relations among fashion elements but also those among user groups, thus capturing more types of correlations among various fashion trends. To further improve the performance of long-range trend forecasting, the REAR method devises a sliding temporal attention mechanism, which is able to capture temporal patterns on future horizons better. Extensive experiments and more analysis have been conducted on the FIT and GeoStyle datasets to evaluate the performance of REAR. Experimental and analytical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed REAR model in fashion trend forecasting, which also show the improvement of REAR compared to the KERN.

Knowledge Enhanced Neural Fashion Trend ForecastingYunshan Ma, Yujuan Ding, Xun Yang et al.
Fashion trend forecasting is a crucial task for both academia and industry. Although some efforts have been devoted to tackling this challenging task, they only studied limited fashion elements with highly seasonal or simple patterns, which could hardly reveal the real fashion trends. Towards insightful fashion trend forecasting, this work focuses on investigating fine-grained fashion element trends for specific user groups. We first contribute a large-scale fashion trend dataset (FIT) collected from Instagram with extracted time series fashion element records and user information. Further-more, to effectively model the time series data of fashion elements with rather complex patterns, we propose a Knowledge EnhancedRecurrent Network model (KERN) which takes advantage of the capability of deep recurrent neural networks in modeling time-series data. Moreover, it leverages internal and external knowledge in fashion domain that affects the time-series patterns of fashion element trends. Such incorporation of domain knowledge further enhances the deep learning model in capturing the patterns of specific fashion elements and predicting the future trends. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed KERN model can effectively capture the complicated patterns of objective fashion elements, therefore making preferable fashion trend forecast.

Regularizing Reasons for Outfit Evaluation with Gradient PenaltyXingxing Zou, Zhizhong Li, Ke Bai et al.
In this paper, we build an outfit evaluation system which provides feedbacks consisting of a judgment with a convincing explanation. The system is trained in a supervised manner which faithfully follows the domain knowledge in fashion. We create the EVALUATION3 dataset which is annotated with judgment, the decisive reason for the judgment, and all corresponding attributes (e.g. print, silhouette, and material \etc.). In the training process, features of all attributes in an outfit are first extracted and then concatenated as the input for the intra-factor compatibility net. Then, the inter-factor compatibility net is used to compute the loss for judgment. We penalize the gradient of judgment loss of so that our Grad-CAM-like reason is regularized to be consistent with the labeled reason. In inference, according to the obtained information of judgment, reason, and attributes, a user-friendly explanation sentence is generated by the pre-defined templates. The experimental results show that the obtained network combines the advantages of high precision and good interpretation.

Bilinear Supervised Hashing Based on 2D Image FeaturesYujuan Ding, Wai Kueng Wong, Zhihui Lai et al.
Hashing has been recognized as an efficient representation learning method to effectively handle big data due to its low computational complexity and memory cost. Most of the existing hashing methods focus on learning the low-dimensional vectorized binary features based on the high-dimensional raw vectorized features. However, studies on how to obtain preferable binary codes from the original 2D image features for retrieval is very limited. This paper proposes a bilinear supervised discrete hashing (BSDH) method based on 2D image features which utilizes bilinear projections to binarize the image matrix features such that the intrinsic characteristics in the 2D image space are preserved in the learned binary codes. Meanwhile, the bilinear projection approximation and vectorization binary codes regression are seamlessly integrated together to formulate the final robust learning framework. Furthermore, a discrete optimization strategy is developed to alternatively update each variable for obtaining the high-quality binary codes. In addition, two 2D image features, traditional SURF-based FVLAD feature and CNN-based AlexConv5 feature are designed for further improving the performance of the proposed BSDH method. Results of extensive experiments conducted on four benchmark datasets show that the proposed BSDH method almost outperforms all competing hashing methods with different input features by different evaluation protocols.
