How Can Recommender Systems Benefit from Large Language Models: A SurveyJianghao Lin, Xinyi Dai, Yunjia Xi et al.
With the rapid development of online services, recommender systems (RS) have become increasingly indispensable for mitigating information overload. Despite remarkable progress, conventional recommendation models (CRM) still have some limitations, e.g., lacking open-world knowledge, and difficulties in comprehending users' underlying preferences and motivations. Meanwhile, large language models (LLM) have shown impressive general intelligence and human-like capabilities, which mainly stem from their extensive open-world knowledge, reasoning ability, as well as their comprehension of human culture and society. Consequently, the emergence of LLM is inspiring the design of recommender systems and pointing out a promising research direction, i.e., whether we can incorporate LLM and benefit from their knowledge and capabilities to compensate for the limitations of CRM. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive survey on this research direction from the perspective of the whole pipeline in real-world recommender systems. Specifically, we summarize existing works from two orthogonal aspects: where and how to adapt LLM to RS. For the WHERE question, we discuss the roles that LLM could play in different stages of the recommendation pipeline, i.e., feature engineering, feature encoder, scoring/ranking function, user interaction, and pipeline controller. For the HOW question, we investigate the training and inference strategies, resulting in two fine-grained taxonomy criteria, i.e., whether to tune LLM or not, and whether to involve conventional recommendation models for inference. Then, we highlight key challenges in adapting LLM to RS from three aspects, i.e., efficiency, effectiveness, and ethics. Finally, we summarize the survey and discuss the future prospects. GLM-5: from Vibe Coding to Agentic EngineeringGLM-5 Team, Aohan Zeng, Xin Lv et al. · tsinghua
We present GLM-5, a next-generation foundation model designed to transition the paradigm of vibe coding to agentic engineering. Building upon the agentic, reasoning, and coding (ARC) capabilities of its predecessor, GLM-5 adopts DSA to significantly reduce training and inference costs while maintaining long-context fidelity. To advance model alignment and autonomy, we implement a new asynchronous reinforcement learning infrastructure that drastically improves post-training efficiency by decoupling generation from training. Furthermore, we propose novel asynchronous agent RL algorithms that further improve RL quality, enabling the model to learn from complex, long-horizon interactions more effectively. Through these innovations, GLM-5 achieves state-of-the-art performance on major open benchmarks. Most critically, GLM-5 demonstrates unprecedented capability in real-world coding tasks, surpassing previous baselines in handling end-to-end software engineering challenges. Rethinking Dense Retrieval's Few-Shot AbilitySi Sun, Yida Lu, Shi Yu et al. · tsinghua
Few-shot dense retrieval (DR) aims to effectively generalize to novel search scenarios by learning a few samples. Despite its importance, there is little study on specialized datasets and standardized evaluation protocols. As a result, current methods often resort to random sampling from supervised datasets to create "few-data" setups and employ inconsistent training strategies during evaluations, which poses a challenge in accurately comparing recent progress. In this paper, we propose a customized FewDR dataset and a unified evaluation benchmark. Specifically, FewDR employs class-wise sampling to establish a standardized "few-shot" setting with finely-defined classes, reducing variability in multiple sampling rounds. Moreover, the dataset is disjointed into base and novel classes, allowing DR models to be continuously trained on ample data from base classes and a few samples in novel classes. This benchmark eliminates the risk of novel class leakage, providing a reliable estimation of the DR model's few-shot ability. Our extensive empirical results reveal that current state-of-the-art DR models still face challenges in the standard few-shot scene. CoIR: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Code Information Retrieval ModelsXiangyang Li, Kuicai Dong, Yi Quan Lee et al.
Despite the substantial success of Information Retrieval (IR) in various NLP tasks, most IR systems predominantly handle queries and corpora in natural language, neglecting the domain of code retrieval. Code retrieval is critically important yet remains under-explored, with existing methods and benchmarks inadequately representing the diversity of code in various domains and tasks. Addressing this gap, we present COIR (Code Information Retrieval Benchmark), a robust and comprehensive benchmark specifically designed to assess code retrieval capabilities. COIR comprises ten meticulously curated code datasets, spanning eight distinctive retrieval tasks across seven diverse domains. We first discuss the construction of COIR and its diverse dataset composition. Further, we evaluate nine widely used retrieval models using COIR, uncovering significant difficulties in performing code retrieval tasks even with state-of-the-art systems. To facilitate easy adoption and integration within existing research workflows, COIR has been developed as a user-friendly Python framework, readily installable via pip. It shares same data schema as other popular benchmarks like MTEB and BEIR, enabling seamless cross-benchmark evaluations. Through COIR, we aim to invigorate research in the code retrieval domain, providing a versatile benchmarking tool that encourages further development and exploration of code retrieval systems. https://github.com/CoIR-team/coir.

FLIP: Fine-grained Alignment between ID-based Models and Pretrained Language Models for CTR PredictionHangyu Wang, Jianghao Lin, Xiangyang Li et al.
Click-through rate (CTR) prediction plays as a core function module in various personalized online services. The traditional ID-based models for CTR prediction take as inputs the one-hot encoded ID features of tabular modality, which capture the collaborative signals via feature interaction modeling. But the one-hot encoding discards the semantic information included in the textual features. Recently, the emergence of Pretrained Language Models(PLMs) has given rise to another paradigm, which takes as inputs the sentences of textual modality obtained by hard prompt templates and adopts PLMs to extract the semantic knowledge. However, PLMs often face challenges in capturing field-wise collaborative signals and distinguishing features with subtle textual differences. In this paper, to leverage the benefits of both paradigms and meanwhile overcome their limitations, we propose to conduct Fine-grained feature-level ALignment between ID-based Models and Pretrained Language Models(FLIP) for CTR prediction. Unlike most methods that solely rely on global views through instance-level contrastive learning, we design a novel jointly masked tabular/language modeling task to learn fine-grained alignment between tabular IDs and word tokens. Specifically, the masked data of one modality (IDs and tokens) has to be recovered with the help of the other modality, which establishes the feature-level interaction and alignment via sufficient mutual information extraction between dual modalities. Moreover, we propose to jointly finetune the ID-based model and PLM by adaptively combining the output of both models, thus achieving superior performance in downstream CTR prediction tasks. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate that FLIP outperforms SOTA baselines, and is highly compatible with various ID-based models and PLMs. The code is at \url{https://github.com/justarter/FLIP}.

GridMM: Grid Memory Map for Vision-and-Language NavigationZihan Wang, Xiangyang Li, Jiahao Yang et al.
Vision-and-language navigation (VLN) enables the agent to navigate to a remote location following the natural language instruction in 3D environments. To represent the previously visited environment, most approaches for VLN implement memory using recurrent states, topological maps, or top-down semantic maps. In contrast to these approaches, we build the top-down egocentric and dynamically growing Grid Memory Map (i.e., GridMM) to structure the visited environment. From a global perspective, historical observations are projected into a unified grid map in a top-down view, which can better represent the spatial relations of the environment. From a local perspective, we further propose an instruction relevance aggregation method to capture fine-grained visual clues in each grid region. Extensive experiments are conducted on both the REVERIE, R2R, SOON datasets in the discrete environments, and the R2R-CE dataset in the continuous environments, showing the superiority of our proposed method.

KERM: Knowledge Enhanced Reasoning for Vision-and-Language NavigationXiangyang Li, Zihan Wang, Jiahao Yang et al.
Vision-and-language navigation (VLN) is the task to enable an embodied agent to navigate to a remote location following the natural language instruction in real scenes. Most of the previous approaches utilize the entire features or object-centric features to represent navigable candidates. However, these representations are not efficient enough for an agent to perform actions to arrive the target location. As knowledge provides crucial information which is complementary to visible content, in this paper, we propose a Knowledge Enhanced Reasoning Model (KERM) to leverage knowledge to improve agent navigation ability. Specifically, we first retrieve facts (i.e., knowledge described by language descriptions) for the navigation views based on local regions from the constructed knowledge base. The retrieved facts range from properties of a single object (e.g., color, shape) to relationships between objects (e.g., action, spatial position), providing crucial information for VLN. We further present the KERM which contains the purification, fact-aware interaction, and instruction-guided aggregation modules to integrate visual, history, instruction, and fact features. The proposed KERM can automatically select and gather crucial and relevant cues, obtaining more accurate action prediction. Experimental results on the REVERIE, R2R, and SOON datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Low Resource Style Transfer via Domain Adaptive Meta LearningXiangyang Li, Xiang Long, Yu Xia et al. · pku
Text style transfer (TST) without parallel data has achieved some practical success. However, most of the existing unsupervised text style transfer methods suffer from (i) requiring massive amounts of non-parallel data to guide transferring different text styles. (ii) colossal performance degradation when fine-tuning the model in new domains. In this work, we propose DAML-ATM (Domain Adaptive Meta-Learning with Adversarial Transfer Model), which consists of two parts: DAML and ATM. DAML is a domain adaptive meta-learning approach to learn general knowledge in multiple heterogeneous source domains, capable of adapting to new unseen domains with a small amount of data. Moreover, we propose a new unsupervised TST approach Adversarial Transfer Model (ATM), composed of a sequence-to-sequence pre-trained language model and uses adversarial style training for better content preservation and style transfer. Results on multi-domain datasets demonstrate that our approach generalizes well on unseen low-resource domains, achieving state-of-the-art results against ten strong baselines.

Contrastive Learning enhanced Author-Style Headline GenerationHui Liu, Weidong Guo, Yige Chen et al. · pku
Headline generation is a task of generating an appropriate headline for a given article, which can be further used for machine-aided writing or enhancing the click-through ratio. Current works only use the article itself in the generation, but have not taken the writing style of headlines into consideration. In this paper, we propose a novel Seq2Seq model called CLH3G (Contrastive Learning enhanced Historical Headlines based Headline Generation) which can use the historical headlines of the articles that the author wrote in the past to improve the headline generation of current articles. By taking historical headlines into account, we can integrate the stylistic features of the author into our model, and generate a headline not only appropriate for the article, but also consistent with the author's style. In order to efficiently learn the stylistic features of the author, we further introduce a contrastive learning based auxiliary task for the encoder of our model. Besides, we propose two methods to use the learned stylistic features to guide both the pointer and the decoder during the generation. Experimental results show that historical headlines of the same user can improve the headline generation significantly, and both the contrastive learning module and the two style features fusion methods can further boost the performance.

GA-VLN: Geometry-Aware BEV Representation for Efficient Vision-Language NavigationJiahao Yang, Zihan Wang, Xiangyang Li et al.
Despite significant progress in Vision-Language Navigation (VLN), existing approaches still rely on dense RGB videos that produce excessive patch tokens and lack explicit spatial structure, resulting in substantial computational overhead and limited spatial reasoning. To address these issues, we introduce the Geometry-Aware BEV (GA-BEV) - a compact, 3D-grounded feature representation that integrates both explicit and implicit geometric cues into multimodal large language model (MLLM) - based navigation systems. We construct BEV spatial maps from RGB-D inputs by projecting visual features into 3D space and aggregating them into an agent-centric layout that preserves geometric consistency while reducing token redundancy. To further enrich geometric understanding, we incorporate features from a pretrained 3D foundation model into the BEV space, injecting structural priors learned from large-scale 3D reconstruction tasks. Together, these complementary cues - explicit depth-based projection and implicit learned priors - yield compact yet spatially expressive representations that substantially improve navigation efficiency and performance. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art results using only navigation data, without DAgger augmentation or mixed VQA training, demonstrating the robustness and data efficiency of the proposed GA-VLN framework.

Bridging Relevance and Reasoning: Rationale Distillation in Retrieval-Augmented GenerationPengyue Jia, Derong Xu, Xiaopeng Li et al.
The reranker and generator are two critical components in the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (i.e., RAG) pipeline, responsible for ranking relevant documents and generating responses. However, due to differences in pre-training data and objectives, there is an inevitable gap between the documents ranked as relevant by the reranker and those required by the generator to support answering the query. To address this gap, we propose RADIO, a novel and practical preference alignment framework with RAtionale DIstillatiOn. Specifically, we first propose a rationale extraction method that leverages the reasoning capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract the rationales necessary for answering the query. Subsequently, a rationale-based alignment process is designed to rerank the documents based on the extracted rationales, and fine-tune the reranker to align the preferences. We conduct extensive experiments on two tasks across three datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach compared to baseline methods. Our code is released online to ease reproduction.

KnowPath: Knowledge-enhanced Reasoning via LLM-generated Inference Paths over Knowledge GraphsQi Zhao, Hongyu Yang, Qi Song et al.
Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in various complex tasks, yet they still suffer from hallucinations. By incorporating and exploring external knowledge, such as knowledge graphs(KGs), LLM's ability to provide factual answers has been enhanced. This approach carries significant practical implications. However, existing methods suffer from three key limitations: insufficient mining of LLMs' internal knowledge, constrained generation of interpretable reasoning paths, and unclear fusion of internal and external knowledge. Therefore, we propose KnowPath, a knowledge-enhanced large model framework driven by the collaboration of internal and external knowledge. It relies on the internal knowledge of the LLM to guide the exploration of interpretable directed subgraphs in external knowledge graphs, better integrating the two knowledge sources for more accurate reasoning. SentGraph: Hierarchical Sentence Graph for Multi-hop Retrieval-Augmented Question AnsweringJunli Liang, Pengfei Zhou, Wangqiu Zhou et al.
Traditional Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) effectively supports single-hop question answering with large language models but faces significant limitations in multi-hop question answering tasks, which require combining evidence from multiple documents. Existing chunk-based retrieval often provides irrelevant and logically incoherent context, leading to incomplete evidence chains and incorrect reasoning during answer generation. To address these challenges, we propose SentGraph, a sentence-level graph-based RAG framework that explicitly models fine-grained logical relationships between sentences for multi-hop question answering. Specifically, we construct a hierarchical sentence graph offline by first adapting Rhetorical Structure Theory to distinguish nucleus and satellite sentences, and then organizing them into topic-level subgraphs with cross-document entity bridges. During online retrieval, SentGraph performs graph-guided evidence selection and path expansion to retrieve fine-grained sentence-level evidence. Extensive experiments on four multi-hop question answering benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of SentGraph, validating the importance of explicitly modeling sentence-level logical dependencies for multi-hop reasoning.

A-VL: Adaptive Attention for Large Vision-Language ModelsJunyang Zhang, Mu Yuan, Ruiguang Zhong et al.
The Large Vision-Language Model (LVLM) integrates computer vision and natural language processing techniques, offering substantial application potential. However, these models demand extensive resources during inference. Adaptive attention techniques can dynamically reduce computational redundancy and thus improve efficiency. Although current adaptive attention methods significantly reduce the memory requirements of Transformer-based language models, they are not tailored for LVLMs. We observe that LVLMs generate responses from both remote image tokens and local text tokens, and different modalities have different attention patterns. This observation inspires us to manage the attention for each modality separately. Specifically, for visual input, we store the cache of potentially useful information but only compute the most critical parts. For language input, we care more about local information. Based on our observation and analysis of vision-language attention patterns, we develop A-VL, a plug-and-play adaptive attention tailored for LVLM inference. Extensive evaluations on three vision-language tasks and five datasets show the effectiveness of our designs. Our approach A-VL outperforms existing adaptive attention methods in reducing memory usage and computational load without compromising performance.

Lumine: An Open Recipe for Building Generalist Agents in 3D Open WorldsWeihao Tan, Xiangyang Li, Yunhao Fang et al.
We introduce Lumine, the first open recipe for developing generalist agents capable of completing hours-long complex missions in real time within challenging 3D open-world environments. Lumine adopts a human-like interaction paradigm that unifies perception, reasoning, and action in an end-to-end manner, powered by a vision-language model. It processes raw pixels at 5 Hz to produce precise 30 Hz keyboard-mouse actions and adaptively invokes reasoning only when necessary. Trained in Genshin Impact, Lumine successfully completes the entire five-hour Mondstadt main storyline on par with human-level efficiency and follows natural language instructions to perform a broad spectrum of tasks in both 3D open-world exploration and 2D GUI manipulation across collection, combat, puzzle-solving, and NPC interaction. In addition to its in-domain performance, Lumine demonstrates strong zero-shot cross-game generalization. Without any fine-tuning, it accomplishes 100-minute missions in Wuthering Waves and the full five-hour first chapter of Honkai: Star Rail. These promising results highlight Lumine's effectiveness across distinct worlds and interaction dynamics, marking a concrete step toward generalist agents in open-ended environments.

Humanity's Last Code Exam: Can Advanced LLMs Conquer Human's Hardest Code Competition?Xiangyang Li, Xiaopeng Li, Kuicai Dong et al.
Code generation is a core capability of large language models (LLMs), yet mainstream benchmarks (e.g., APPs and LiveCodeBench) contain questions with medium-level difficulty and pose no challenge to advanced LLMs. To better reflected the advanced reasoning and code generation ability, We introduce Humanity's Last Code Exam (HLCE), comprising 235 most challenging problems from the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC World Finals) and the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) spanning 2010 - 2024. As part of HLCE, we design a harmonized online-offline sandbox that guarantees fully reproducible evaluation. Through our comprehensive evaluation, we observe that even the strongest reasoning LLMs: o4-mini(high) and Gemini-2.5 Pro, achieve pass@1 rates of only 15.9% and 11.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, we propose a novel "self-recognition" task to measure LLMs' awareness of their own capabilities. Results indicate that LLMs' self-recognition abilities are not proportionally correlated with their code generation performance. Finally, our empirical validation of test-time scaling laws reveals that current advanced LLMs have substantial room for improvement on complex programming tasks. We expect HLCE to become a milestone challenge for code generation and to catalyze advances in high-performance reasoning and human-AI collaborative programming. ComPrivDet: Efficient Privacy Object Detection in Compressed Domains Through Inference ReuseYunhao Yao, Zhiqiang Wang, Ruiqi Li et al.
As the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes deeply embedded in daily life, users are increasingly concerned about privacy leakage, especially from video data. Since frame-by-frame protection in large-scale video analytics (e.g., smart communities) introduces significant latency, a more efficient solution is to selectively protect frames containing privacy objects (e.g., faces). Existing object detectors require fully decoded videos or per-frame processing in compressed videos, leading to decoding overhead or reduced accuracy. Therefore, we propose ComPrivDet, an efficient method for detecting privacy objects in compressed video by reusing I-frame inference results. By identifying the presence of new objects through compressed-domain cues, ComPrivDet either skips P- and B-frame detections or efficiently refines them with a lightweight detector. ComPrivDet maintains 99.75% accuracy in private face detection and 96.83% in private license plate detection while skipping over 80% of inferences. It averages 9.84% higher accuracy with 75.95% lower latency than existing compressed-domain detection methods.

CrossLinear: Plug-and-Play Cross-Correlation Embedding for Time Series Forecasting with Exogenous VariablesPengfei Zhou, Yunlong Liu, Junli Liang et al.
Time series forecasting with exogenous variables is a critical emerging paradigm that presents unique challenges in modeling dependencies between variables. Traditional models often struggle to differentiate between endogenous and exogenous variables, leading to inefficiencies and overfitting. In this paper, we introduce CrossLinear, a novel Linear-based forecasting model that addresses these challenges by incorporating a plug-and-play cross-correlation embedding module. This lightweight module captures the dependencies between variables with minimal computational cost and seamlessly integrates into existing neural networks. Specifically, it captures time-invariant and direct variable dependencies while disregarding time-varying or indirect dependencies, thereby mitigating the risk of overfitting in dependency modeling and contributing to consistent performance improvements. Furthermore, CrossLinear employs patch-wise processing and a global linear head to effectively capture both short-term and long-term temporal dependencies, further improving its forecasting precision. Extensive experiments on 12 real-world datasets demonstrate that CrossLinear achieves superior performance in both short-term and long-term forecasting tasks. The ablation study underscores the effectiveness of the cross-correlation embedding module. TeleEval-OS: Performance evaluations of large language models for operations schedulingYanyan Wang, Yingying Wang, Junli Liang et al.
The rapid advancement of large language models (LLMs) has significantly propelled progress in artificial intelligence, demonstrating substantial application potential across multiple specialized domains. Telecommunications operation scheduling (OS) is a critical aspect of the telecommunications industry, involving the coordinated management of networks, services, risks, and human resources to optimize production scheduling and ensure unified service control. However, the inherent complexity and domain-specific nature of OS tasks, coupled with the absence of comprehensive evaluation benchmarks, have hindered thorough exploration of LLMs' application potential in this critical field. To address this research gap, we propose the first Telecommunications Operation Scheduling Evaluation Benchmark (TeleEval-OS). Specifically, this benchmark comprises 15 datasets across 13 subtasks, comprehensively simulating four key operational stages: intelligent ticket creation, intelligent ticket handling, intelligent ticket closure, and intelligent evaluation. To systematically assess the performance of LLMs on tasks of varying complexity, we categorize their capabilities in telecommunications operation scheduling into four hierarchical levels, arranged in ascending order of difficulty: basic NLP, knowledge Q&A, report generation, and report analysis. On TeleEval-OS, we leverage zero-shot and few-shot evaluation methods to comprehensively assess 10 open-source LLMs (e.g., DeepSeek-V3) and 4 closed-source LLMs (e.g., GPT-4o) across diverse scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that open-source LLMs can outperform closed-source LLMs in specific scenarios, highlighting their significant potential and value in the field of telecommunications operation scheduling.

Exploring Text-transformers in AAAI 2021 Shared Task: COVID-19 Fake News Detection in EnglishXiangyang Li, Yu Xia, Xiang Long et al.
In this paper, we describe our system for the AAAI 2021 shared task of COVID-19 Fake News Detection in English, where we achieved the 3rd position with the weighted F1 score of 0.9859 on the test set. Specifically, we proposed an ensemble method of different pre-trained language models such as BERT, Roberta, Ernie, etc. with various training strategies including warm-up,learning rate schedule and k-fold cross-validation. FATE: Future-State-Aware Scheduling for Heterogeneous LLM WorkflowsZirui Huang, Yi-Xiang Hu, Feng Wu et al.
Large language model (LLM) applications are increasingly executed as heterogeneous multi-stage workflows rather than isolated inference calls. In these workflow directed acyclic graphs (DAGs), scheduling decisions affect not only the currently ready stage, but also the execution state inherited by downstream stages, including model residency, parent-output locality, prefix reuse, and future device reachability. Existing serving and DAG-scheduling policies mainly optimize immediate queue state, placement cost, or reuse signals in isolation, which can fragment useful state and increase end-to-end latency. We present FATE, a future-state-aware scheduler for heterogeneous LLM workflows. FATE combines a CP-SAT-backed frontier planner, horizon-aware candidate scoring, bounded multi-device shard execution, and state-conditional cost estimation. Rather than solving a monolithic full-DAG problem, FATE repeatedly plans over the current ready frontier and scores assignments by both immediate cost and the downstream state they induce. Across real-DAG and controlled prefix-reuse benchmarks, FATE outperforms practical heuristics, classical DAG scheduling, and proxy adaptations of recent workflow-serving policies. On the real-DAG benchmark, it achieves normalized makespan and normalized P95 latency of 0.675 and 0.677, reducing them by 32.5% and 32.3% over RoundRobin and by 8.9% and 8.8% over the strongest non-FATE baseline. Mechanism analysis and ablations show that these gains arise from jointly preserving multiple dimensions of future execution state rather than prefix reuse alone. These results indicate that future-state preservation should be treated as a first-class scheduling objective for heterogeneous LLM workflow serving.

R2E-VID: Two-Stage Robust Routing via Temporal Gating for Elastic Edge-Cloud Video InferenceZheming Yang, Lulu Zuo, Shun Lu et al.
With the rapid growth of large-scale video analytics applications, edge-cloud collaborative systems have become the dominant paradigm for real-time inference. However, existing approaches often fail to dynamically adapt to heterogeneous video content and fluctuating resource conditions, resulting in suboptimal routing efficiency and high computational costs. In this paper, we propose R2E-VID, a two-stage robust routing framework via temporal gating for elastic edge-cloud video inference. In the first stage, R2E-VID introduces a temporal gating mechanism that models the temporal consistency and motion dynamics of incoming video streams to predict the optimal routing pattern for each segment. This enables adaptive partitioning of inference workloads between edge and cloud nodes, achieving fine-grained spatiotemporal elasticity. In the second stage, a robust routing optimization module refines the allocation through multi-model adaptation, jointly minimizing inference delay and resource consumption under dynamic network and workload variations. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate that R2E-VID achieves up to 60% reduction in overall cost compared to cloud-centric baselines, and delivers 35-45% lower delay while improving inference accuracy by 2-7% over state-of-the-art edge-cloud solutions.

TaCIE: Enhancing Instruction Comprehension in Large Language Models through Task-Centred Instruction EvolutionJiuding Yang, Shengyao Lu, Weidong Guo et al.
Large Language Models (LLMs) require precise alignment with complex instructions to optimize their performance in real-world applications. As the demand for refined instruction tuning data increases, traditional methods that evolve simple seed instructions often struggle to effectively enhance complexity or manage difficulty scaling across various domains. Our innovative approach, Task-Centered Instruction Evolution (TaCIE), addresses these shortcomings by redefining instruction evolution from merely evolving seed instructions to a more dynamic and comprehensive combination of elements. TaCIE starts by deconstructing complex instructions into their fundamental components. It then generates and integrates new elements with the original ones, reassembling them into more sophisticated instructions that progressively increase in difficulty, diversity, and complexity. Applied across multiple domains, LLMs fine-tuned with these evolved instructions have substantially outperformed those tuned with conventional methods, marking a significant advancement in instruction-based model fine-tuning.

Lookahead Exploration with Neural Radiance Representation for Continuous Vision-Language NavigationZihan Wang, Xiangyang Li, Jiahao Yang et al.
Vision-and-language navigation (VLN) enables the agent to navigate to a remote location following the natural language instruction in 3D environments. At each navigation step, the agent selects from possible candidate locations and then makes the move. For better navigation planning, the lookahead exploration strategy aims to effectively evaluate the agent's next action by accurately anticipating the future environment of candidate locations. To this end, some existing works predict RGB images for future environments, while this strategy suffers from image distortion and high computational cost. To address these issues, we propose the pre-trained hierarchical neural radiance representation model (HNR) to produce multi-level semantic features for future environments, which are more robust and efficient than pixel-wise RGB reconstruction. Furthermore, with the predicted future environmental representations, our lookahead VLN model is able to construct the navigable future path tree and select the optimal path via efficient parallel evaluation. Extensive experiments on the VLN-CE datasets confirm the effectiveness of our method.

MoonCast: High-Quality Zero-Shot Podcast GenerationZeqian Ju, Dongchao Yang, Jianwei Yu et al.
Recent advances in text-to-speech synthesis have achieved notable success in generating high-quality short utterances for individual speakers. However, these systems still face challenges when extending their capabilities to long, multi-speaker, and spontaneous dialogues, typical of real-world scenarios such as podcasts. These limitations arise from two primary challenges: 1) long speech: podcasts typically span several minutes, exceeding the upper limit of most existing work; 2) spontaneity: podcasts are marked by their spontaneous, oral nature, which sharply contrasts with formal, written contexts; existing works often fall short in capturing this spontaneity. In this paper, we propose MoonCast, a solution for high-quality zero-shot podcast generation, aiming to synthesize natural podcast-style speech from text-only sources (e.g., stories, technical reports, news in TXT, PDF, or Web URL formats) using the voices of unseen speakers. To generate long audio, we adopt a long-context language model-based audio modeling approach utilizing large-scale long-context speech data. To enhance spontaneity, we utilize a podcast generation module to generate scripts with spontaneous details, which have been empirically shown to be as crucial as the text-to-speech modeling itself. Experiments demonstrate that MoonCast outperforms baselines, with particularly notable improvements in spontaneity and coherence.

HRLAIF: Improvements in Helpfulness and Harmlessness in Open-domain Reinforcement Learning From AI FeedbackAng Li, Qiugen Xiao, Peng Cao et al.
Reinforcement Learning from AI Feedback (RLAIF) has the advantages of shorter annotation cycles and lower costs over Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), making it highly efficient during the rapid strategy iteration periods of large language model (LLM) training. Using ChatGPT as a labeler to provide feedback on open-domain prompts in RLAIF training, we observe an increase in human evaluators' preference win ratio for model responses, but a decrease in evaluators' satisfaction rate. Analysis suggests that the decrease in satisfaction rate is mainly due to some responses becoming less helpful, particularly in terms of correctness and truthfulness, highlighting practical limitations of basic RLAIF. In this paper, we propose Hybrid Reinforcement Learning from AI Feedback (HRLAIF). This method enhances the accuracy of AI annotations for responses, making the model's helpfulness more robust in training process. Additionally, it employs AI for Red Teaming, further improving the model's harmlessness. Human evaluation results show that HRLAIF inherits the ability of RLAIF to enhance human preference for outcomes at a low cost while also improving the satisfaction rate of responses. Compared to the policy model before Reinforcement Learning (RL), it achieves an increase of 2.08\% in satisfaction rate, effectively addressing the issue of a decrease of 4.58\% in satisfaction rate after basic RLAIF.

Instruction Fusion: Advancing Prompt Evolution through HybridizationWeidong Guo, Jiuding Yang, Kaitong Yang et al.
The fine-tuning of Large Language Models (LLMs) specialized in code generation has seen notable advancements through the use of open-domain coding queries. Despite the successes, existing methodologies like Evol-Instruct encounter performance limitations, impeding further enhancements in code generation tasks. This paper examines the constraints of existing prompt evolution techniques and introduces a novel approach, Instruction Fusion (IF). IF innovatively combines two distinct prompts through a hybridization process, thereby enhancing the evolution of training prompts for code LLMs. Our experimental results reveal that the proposed novel method effectively addresses the shortcomings of prior methods, significantly improving the performance of Code LLMs across five code generation benchmarks, namely HumanEval, HumanEval+, MBPP, MBPP+ and MultiPL-E, which underscore the effectiveness of Instruction Fusion in advancing the capabilities of LLMs in code generation.

Multi-view Content-aware Indexing for Long Document RetrievalKuicai Dong, Derrick Goh Xin Deik, Yi Quan Lee et al.
Long document question answering (DocQA) aims to answer questions from long documents over 10k words. They usually contain content structures such as sections, sub-sections, and paragraph demarcations. However, the indexing methods of long documents remain under-explored, while existing systems generally employ fixed-length chunking. As they do not consider content structures, the resultant chunks can exclude vital information or include irrelevant content. Motivated by this, we propose the Multi-view Content-aware indexing (MC-indexing) for more effective long DocQA via (i) segment structured document into content chunks, and (ii) represent each content chunk in raw-text, keywords, and summary views. We highlight that MC-indexing requires neither training nor fine-tuning. Having plug-and-play capability, it can be seamlessly integrated with any retrievers to boost their performance. Besides, we propose a long DocQA dataset that includes not only question-answer pair, but also document structure and answer scope. When compared to state-of-art chunking schemes, MC-indexing has significantly increased the recall by 42.8%, 30.0%, 23.9%, and 16.3% via top k= 1.5, 3, 5, and 10 respectively. These improved scores are the average of 8 widely used retrievers (2 sparse and 6 dense) via extensive experiments.

MCPTox: A Benchmark for Tool Poisoning Attack on Real-World MCP ServersZhiqiang Wang, Yichao Gao, Yanting Wang et al.
By providing a standardized interface for LLM agents to interact with external tools, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is quickly becoming a cornerstone of the modern autonomous agent ecosystem. However, it creates novel attack surfaces due to untrusted external tools. While prior work has focused on attacks injected through external tool outputs, we investigate a more fundamental vulnerability: Tool Poisoning, where malicious instructions are embedded within a tool's metadata without execution. To date, this threat has been primarily demonstrated through isolated cases, lacking a systematic, large-scale evaluation. We introduce MCPTox, the first benchmark to systematically evaluate agent robustness against Tool Poisoning in realistic MCP settings. MCPTox is constructed upon 45 live, real-world MCP servers and 353 authentic tools. To achieve this, we design three distinct attack templates to generate a comprehensive suite of 1312 malicious test cases by few-shot learning, covering 10 categories of potential risks. Our evaluation on 20 prominent LLM agents setting reveals a widespread vulnerability to Tool Poisoning, with o1-mini, achieving an attack success rate of 72.8\%. We find that more capable models are often more susceptible, as the attack exploits their superior instruction-following abilities. Finally, the failure case analysis reveals that agents rarely refuse these attacks, with the highest refused rate (Claude-3.7-Sonnet) less than 3\%, demonstrating that existing safety alignment is ineffective against malicious actions that use legitimate tools for unauthorized operation. Our findings create a crucial empirical baseline for understanding and mitigating this widespread threat, and we release MCPTox for the development of verifiably safer AI agents. MSAO: Adaptive Modality Sparsity-Aware Offloading with Edge-Cloud Collaboration for Efficient Multimodal LLM InferenceZheming Yang, Qi Guo, Jun Wan et al.
Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) enable powerful cross-modal reasoning capabilities but impose substantial computational and latency burdens, posing critical challenges for deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. In this paper, we propose MSAO, an adaptive modality sparsity-aware offloading framework with edge-cloud collaboration for efficient MLLM Inference. First, a lightweight heterogeneous modality-aware via fine-grained sparsity module performs spatial-temporal-modal joint analysis to compute the Modality Activation Sparsity (MAS) metric, which quantifies the necessity of each modality with minimal computational overhead. Second, an adaptive speculative edge-cloud collaborative offloading mechanism dynamically schedules workloads between edge and cloud based on the derived MAS scores and real-time system states, leveraging confidence-guided speculative execution to hide communication latency. Extensive experiments on VQAv2 and MMBench benchmarks demonstrate that MSAO achieves a 30% reduction in end-to-end latency and 30%-65% decrease in resource overhead, while delivering a throughput improvement of 1.5x to 2.3x compared to traditional approaches, all without compromising competitive accuracy.

Game-TARS: Pretrained Foundation Models for Scalable Generalist Multimodal Game AgentsZihao Wang, Xujing Li, Yining Ye et al. · pku
We present Game-TARS, a generalist game agent trained with a unified, scalable action space anchored to human-aligned native keyboard-mouse inputs. Unlike API- or GUI-based approaches, this paradigm enables large-scale continual pre-training across heterogeneous domains, including OS, web, and simulation games. Game-TARS is pre-trained on over 500B tokens with diverse trajectories and multimodal data. Key techniques include a decaying continual loss to reduce causal confusion and an efficient Sparse-Thinking strategy that balances reasoning depth and inference cost. Experiments show that Game-TARS achieves about 2 times the success rate over the previous sota model on open-world Minecraft tasks, is close to the generality of fresh humans in unseen web 3d games, and outperforms GPT-5, Gemini-2.5-Pro, and Claude-4-Sonnet in FPS benchmarks. Scaling results on training-time and test-time confirm that the unified action space sustains improvements when scaled to cross-game and multimodal data. Our results demonstrate that simple, scalable action representations combined with large-scale pre-training provide a promising path toward generalist agents with broad computer-use abilities.

MTRec: Learning to Align with User Preferences via Mental Reward ModelsMengchen Zhao, Yifan Gao, Yaqing Hou et al.
Recommendation models are predominantly trained using implicit user feedback, since explicit feedback is often costly to obtain. However, implicit feedback, such as clicks, does not always reflect users' real preferences. For example, a user might click on a news article because of its attractive headline, but end up feeling uncomfortable after reading the content. In the absence of explicit feedback, such erroneous implicit signals may severely mislead recommender systems. In this paper, we propose MTRec, a novel sequential recommendation framework designed to align with real user preferences by uncovering their internal satisfaction on recommended items. Specifically, we introduce a mental reward model to quantify user satisfaction and propose a distributional inverse reinforcement learning approach to learn it. The learned mental reward model is then used to guide recommendation models to better align with users' real preferences. Our experiments show that MTRec brings significant improvements to a variety of recommendation models. We also deploy MTRec on an industrial short video platform and observe a 7 percent increase in average user viewing time.

Quantum noise constitutes a fundamental obstacle to realizing practical quantum technologies. To address the pivotal challenge of identifying quantum systems least affected by noise, we introduce the purest quantum state identification, which can be used to improve the accuracy of quantum computation and communication. We formulate a rigorous paradigm for identifying the purest quantum state among $K$ unknown $n$-qubit quantum states using total $N$ quantum state copies. For incoherent strategies, we derive the first adaptive algorithm achieving error probability $\exp\left(- Ω\left(\frac{N H_1}{\log(K) 2^n }\right) \right)$, fundamentally improving quantum property learning through measurement optimization. By developing a coherent measurement protocol with error bound $\exp\left(- Ω\left(\frac{N H_2}{\log(K) }\right) \right)$, we demonstrate a significant separation from incoherent strategies, formally quantifying the power of quantum memory and coherent measurement. Furthermore, we establish a lower bound by demonstrating that all strategies with fixed two-outcome incoherent POVM must suffer error probability exceeding $ \exp\left( - O\left(\frac{NH_1}{2^n}\right)\right)$. This research advances the characterization of quantum noise through efficient learning frameworks. Our results establish theoretical foundations for noise-adaptive quantum property learning while delivering practical protocols for enhancing the reliability of quantum hardware.

DERMARK: A Dynamic, Efficient and Robust Multi-bit Watermark for Large Language ModelsQihao Lin, Chen Tang, Lan zhang et al.
As large language models (LLMs) grow more powerful, concerns over copyright infringement of LLM-generated texts have intensified. LLM watermarking has been proposed to trace unauthorized redistribution or resale of generated content by embedding identifiers within the text. Existing approaches primarily rely on one-bit watermarking, which only verifies whether a text was generated by a specific LLM. In contrast, multi-bit watermarking encodes richer information, enabling the identification of the specific LLM and user involved in generated or distributed content. However, current multi-bit methods directly embed the watermark into the text without considering its watermark capacity, which can result in failures, especially in low-entropy texts. In this paper, we analyze that the watermark embedding follows a normal distribution. We then derive a formal inequality to optimally segment the text for watermark embedding. Building upon this, we propose DERMARK, a dynamic, efficient, and robust multi-bit watermarking method that divides the text into variable-length segments for each watermark bit during the inference. Moreover, DERMARK incurs negligible overhead since no additional intermediate matrices are generated and achieves robustness against text editing by minimizing watermark extraction loss. Experiments demonstrate that, compared to SOTA, on average, our method reduces the number of tokens required per embedded bit by 25\%, reduces watermark embedding time by 50\%, and maintains high robustness against text modifications and watermark erasure attacks.

LIBER: Lifelong User Behavior Modeling Based on Large Language ModelsChenxu Zhu, Shigang Quan, Bo Chen et al.
CTR prediction plays a vital role in recommender systems. Recently, large language models (LLMs) have been applied in recommender systems due to their emergence abilities. While leveraging semantic information from LLMs has shown some improvements in the performance of recommender systems, two notable limitations persist in these studies. First, LLM-enhanced recommender systems encounter challenges in extracting valuable information from lifelong user behavior sequences within textual contexts for recommendation tasks. Second, the inherent variability in human behaviors leads to a constant stream of new behaviors and irregularly fluctuating user interests. This characteristic imposes two significant challenges on existing models. On the one hand, it presents difficulties for LLMs in effectively capturing the dynamic shifts in user interests within these sequences, and on the other hand, there exists the issue of substantial computational overhead if the LLMs necessitate recurrent calls upon each update to the user sequences. In this work, we propose Lifelong User Behavior Modeling (LIBER) based on large language models, which includes three modules: (1) User Behavior Streaming Partition (UBSP), (2) User Interest Learning (UIL), and (3) User Interest Fusion (UIF). Initially, UBSP is employed to condense lengthy user behavior sequences into shorter partitions in an incremental paradigm, facilitating more efficient processing. Subsequently, UIL leverages LLMs in a cascading way to infer insights from these partitions. Finally, UIF integrates the textual outputs generated by the aforementioned processes to construct a comprehensive representation, which can be incorporated by any recommendation model to enhance performance. LIBER has been deployed on Huawei's music recommendation service and achieved substantial improvements in users' play count and play time by 3.01% and 7.69%.

LLM4MSR: An LLM-Enhanced Paradigm for Multi-Scenario RecommendationYuhao Wang, Yichao Wang, Zichuan Fu et al.
As the demand for more personalized recommendation grows and a dramatic boom in commercial scenarios arises, the study on multi-scenario recommendation (MSR) has attracted much attention, which uses the data from all scenarios to simultaneously improve their recommendation performance. However, existing methods tend to integrate insufficient scenario knowledge and neglect learning personalized cross-scenario preferences, thus leading to sub-optimal performance. Meanwhile, though large language model (LLM) has shown great capability of reasoning and capturing semantic information, the high inference latency and high computation cost of tuning hinder its implementation in industrial recommender systems. To fill these gaps, we propose an LLM-enhanced paradigm LLM4MSR in this work. Specifically, we first leverage LLM to uncover multi-level knowledge from the designed scenario- and user-level prompt without fine-tuning the LLM, then adopt hierarchical meta networks to generate multi-level meta layers to explicitly improve the scenario-aware and personalized recommendation capability. Our experiments on KuaiSAR-small, KuaiSAR, and Amazon datasets validate significant advantages of LLM4MSR: (i) the effectiveness and compatibility with different multi-scenario backbone models, (ii) high efficiency and deployability on industrial recommender systems, and (iii) improved interpretability. The implemented code and data is available to ease reproduction.

Enhancing and Assessing Instruction-Following with Fine-Grained Instruction VariantsJiuding Yang, Weidong Guo, Kaitong Yang et al.
The effective alignment of Large Language Models (LLMs) with precise instructions is essential for their application in diverse real-world scenarios. Current methods focus on enhancing the diversity and complexity of training and evaluation samples, yet they fall short in accurately assessing LLMs' ability to follow similar instruction variants. We introduce an effective data augmentation technique DeMoRecon that decomposes complex instructions into simpler sub-components, modifies these, and reconstructs them into new variants, thereby preserves the original instruction's context and complexity while introducing variability, which is critical for training and evaluating LLMs' instruction-following precision. Based on DeMoRecon, we developed the FGIV dataset which contains fine-grained instruction variants of 1,773 seed instructions to both fine-tune and evaluate LLMs. Our findings show that LLMs fine-tuned with FGIV will gain significant performance boost on both ours and commonly used instructions-following benchmarks.

Sim-to-Real Transfer via 3D Feature Fields for Vision-and-Language NavigationZihan Wang, Xiangyang Li, Jiahao Yang et al.
Vision-and-language navigation (VLN) enables the agent to navigate to a remote location in 3D environments following the natural language instruction. In this field, the agent is usually trained and evaluated in the navigation simulators, lacking effective approaches for sim-to-real transfer. The VLN agents with only a monocular camera exhibit extremely limited performance, while the mainstream VLN models trained with panoramic observation, perform better but are difficult to deploy on most monocular robots. For this case, we propose a sim-to-real transfer approach to endow the monocular robots with panoramic traversability perception and panoramic semantic understanding, thus smoothly transferring the high-performance panoramic VLN models to the common monocular robots. In this work, the semantic traversable map is proposed to predict agent-centric navigable waypoints, and the novel view representations of these navigable waypoints are predicted through the 3D feature fields. These methods broaden the limited field of view of the monocular robots and significantly improve navigation performance in the real world. Our VLN system outperforms previous SOTA monocular VLN methods in R2R-CE and RxR-CE benchmarks within the simulation environments and is also validated in real-world environments, providing a practical and high-performance solution for real-world VLN.

FoodSky: A Food-oriented Large Language Model that Passes the Chef and Dietetic ExaminationPengfei Zhou, Weiqing Min, Chaoran Fu et al.
Food is foundational to human life, serving not only as a source of nourishment but also as a cornerstone of cultural identity and social interaction. As the complexity of global dietary needs and preferences grows, food intelligence is needed to enable food perception and reasoning for various tasks, ranging from recipe generation and dietary recommendation to diet-disease correlation discovery and understanding. Towards this goal, for powerful capabilities across various domains and tasks in Large Language Models (LLMs), we introduce Food-oriented LLM FoodSky to comprehend food data through perception and reasoning. Considering the complexity and typicality of Chinese cuisine, we first construct one comprehensive Chinese food corpus FoodEarth from various authoritative sources, which can be leveraged by FoodSky to achieve deep understanding of food-related data. We then propose Topic-based Selective State Space Model (TS3M) and the Hierarchical Topic Retrieval Augmented Generation (HTRAG) mechanism to enhance FoodSky in capturing fine-grained food semantics and generating context-aware food-relevant text, respectively. Our extensive evaluations demonstrate that FoodSky significantly outperforms general-purpose LLMs in both chef and dietetic examinations, with an accuracy of 67.2% and 66.4% on the Chinese National Chef Exam and the National Dietetic Exam, respectively. FoodSky not only promises to enhance culinary creativity and promote healthier eating patterns, but also sets a new standard for domain-specific LLMs that address complex real-world issues in the food domain. Plug-and-Play Document Modules for Pre-trained ModelsChaojun Xiao, Zhengyan Zhang, Xu Han et al.
Large-scale pre-trained models (PTMs) have been widely used in document-oriented NLP tasks, such as question answering. However, the encoding-task coupling requirement results in the repeated encoding of the same documents for different tasks and queries, which is highly computationally inefficient. To this end, we target to decouple document encoding from downstream tasks, and propose to represent each document as a plug-and-play document module, i.e., a document plugin, for PTMs (PlugD). By inserting document plugins into the backbone PTM for downstream tasks, we can encode a document one time to handle multiple tasks, which is more efficient than conventional encoding-task coupling methods that simultaneously encode documents and input queries using task-specific encoders. Extensive experiments on 8 datasets of 4 typical NLP tasks show that PlugD enables models to encode documents once and for all across different scenarios. Especially, PlugD can save $69\%$ computational costs while achieving comparable performance to state-of-the-art encoding-task coupling methods. Additionally, we show that PlugD can serve as an effective post-processing way to inject knowledge into task-specific models, improving model performance without any additional model training.

TeleMelody: Lyric-to-Melody Generation with a Template-Based Two-Stage MethodZeqian Ju, Peiling Lu, Xu Tan et al.
Lyric-to-melody generation is an important task in automatic songwriting. Previous lyric-to-melody generation systems usually adopt end-to-end models that directly generate melodies from lyrics, which suffer from several issues: 1) lack of paired lyric-melody training data; 2) lack of control on generated melodies. In this paper, we develop TeleMelody, a two-stage lyric-to-melody generation system with music template (e.g., tonality, chord progression, rhythm pattern, and cadence) to bridge the gap between lyrics and melodies (i.e., the system consists of a lyric-to-template module and a template-to-melody module). TeleMelody has two advantages. First, it is data efficient. The template-to-melody module is trained in a self-supervised way (i.e., the source template is extracted from the target melody) that does not need any lyric-melody paired data. The lyric-to-template module is made up of some rules and a lyric-to-rhythm model, which is trained with paired lyric-rhythm data that is easier to obtain than paired lyric-melody data. Second, it is controllable. The design of template ensures that the generated melodies can be controlled by adjusting the musical elements in template. Both subjective and objective experimental evaluations demonstrate that TeleMelody generates melodies with higher quality, better controllability, and less requirement on paired lyric-melody data than previous generation systems.

Line Marching Algorithm For Planar Kinematic Swarm Robots: A Dynamic Leader-Follower ApproachHe Cai, Shuping Guo, Yuheng He et al.
Most of the existing formation algorithms for multiagent systems are fully label-specified, i.e., the desired position for each agent in the formation is uniquely determined by its label, which would inevitably make the formation algorithms vulnerable to agent failures. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a dynamic leader-follower approach to solving the line marching problem for a swarm of planar kinematic robots. In contrast to the existing results, the desired positions for the robots in the line are not fully label-specified, but determined in a dynamic way according to the current state of the robot swarm. By constantly forming a chain of leader-follower pairs, exact formation can be achieved by pairwise leader-following tracking. Since the order of the chain of leader-follower pairs is constantly updated, the proposed algorithm shows strong robustness against robot failures. Comprehensive numerical results are provided to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Dataset Bias in Few-shot Image RecognitionShuqiang Jiang, Yaohui Zhu, Chenlong Liu et al.
The goal of few-shot image recognition (FSIR) is to identify novel categories with a small number of annotated samples by exploiting transferable knowledge from training data (base categories). Most current studies assume that the transferable knowledge can be well used to identify novel categories. However, such transferable capability may be impacted by the dataset bias, and this problem has rarely been investigated before. Besides, most of few-shot learning methods are biased to different datasets, which is also an important issue that needs to be investigated deeply. In this paper, we first investigate the impact of transferable capabilities learned from base categories. Specifically, we use the relevance to measure relationships between base categories and novel categories. Distributions of base categories are depicted via the instance density and category diversity. The FSIR model learns better transferable knowledge from relevant training data. In the relevant data, dense instances or diverse categories can further enrich the learned knowledge. Experimental results on different sub-datasets of ImagNet demonstrate category relevance, instance density and category diversity can depict transferable bias from base categories. Second, we investigate performance differences on different datasets from dataset structures and different few-shot learning methods. Specifically, we introduce image complexity, intra-concept visual consistency, and inter-concept visual similarity to quantify characteristics of dataset structures. We use these quantitative characteristics and four few-shot learning methods to analyze performance differences on five different datasets. Based on the experimental analysis, some insightful observations are obtained from the perspective of both dataset structures and few-shot learning methods. We hope these observations are useful to guide future FSIR research.

FenceMask: A Data Augmentation Approach for Pre-extracted Image FeaturesPu Li, Xiangyang Li, Xiang Long
We propose a novel data augmentation method named 'FenceMask' that exhibits outstanding performance in various computer vision tasks. It is based on the 'simulation of object occlusion' strategy, which aim to achieve the balance between object occlusion and information retention of the input data. By enhancing the sparsity and regularity of the occlusion block, our augmentation method overcome the difficulty of small object augmentation and notably improve performance over baselines. Sufficient experiments prove the performance of our method is better than other simulate object occlusion approaches. We tested it on CIFAR10, CIFAR100 and ImageNet datasets for Coarse-grained classification, COCO2017 and VisDrone datasets for detection, Oxford Flowers, Cornel Leaf and Stanford Dogs datasets for Fine-Grained Visual Categorization. Our method achieved significant performance improvement on Fine-Grained Visual Categorization task and VisDrone dataset.

This article summarizes the research on the text style transfer model based on deep learning in recent years, and summarizes, analyzes and compares the main research directions and progress. In addition, the article also introduces public data sets and evaluation indicators commonly used for text style transfer. Finally, the existing characteristics of the text style transfer model are summarized, and the future development trend of the text style transfer model based on deep learning is analyzed and forecasted.

Multifaceted Analysis of Fine-Tuning in Deep Model for Visual RecognitionXiangyang Li, Luis Herranz, Shuqiang Jiang
In recent years, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved impressive performance for various visual recognition scenarios. CNNs trained on large labeled datasets can not only obtain significant performance on most challenging benchmarks but also provide powerful representations, which can be used to a wide range of other tasks. However, the requirement of massive amounts of data to train deep neural networks is a major drawback of these models, as the data available is usually limited or imbalanced. Fine-tuning (FT) is an effective way to transfer knowledge learned in a source dataset to a target task. In this paper, we introduce and systematically investigate several factors that influence the performance of fine-tuning for visual recognition. These factors include parameters for the retraining procedure (e.g., the initial learning rate of fine-tuning), the distribution of the source and target data (e.g., the number of categories in the source dataset, the distance between the source and target datasets) and so on. We quantitatively and qualitatively analyze these factors, evaluate their influence, and present many empirical observations. The results reveal insights into what fine-tuning changes CNN parameters and provide useful and evidence-backed intuitions about how to implement fine-tuning for computer vision tasks.

Scene recognition with CNNs: objects, scales and dataset biasLuis Herranz, Shuqiang Jiang, Xiangyang Li
Since scenes are composed in part of objects, accurate recognition of scenes requires knowledge about both scenes and objects. In this paper we address two related problems: 1) scale induced dataset bias in multi-scale convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures, and 2) how to combine effectively scene-centric and object-centric knowledge (i.e. Places and ImageNet) in CNNs. An earlier attempt, Hybrid-CNN, showed that incorporating ImageNet did not help much. Here we propose an alternative method taking the scale into account, resulting in significant recognition gains. By analyzing the response of ImageNet-CNNs and Places-CNNs at different scales we find that both operate in different scale ranges, so using the same network for all the scales induces dataset bias resulting in limited performance. Thus, adapting the feature extractor to each particular scale (i.e. scale-specific CNNs) is crucial to improve recognition, since the objects in the scenes have their specific range of scales. Experimental results show that the recognition accuracy highly depends on the scale, and that simple yet carefully chosen multi-scale combinations of ImageNet-CNNs and Places-CNNs, can push the state-of-the-art recognition accuracy in SUN397 up to 66.26% (and even 70.17% with deeper architectures, comparable to human performance).

Efficient and Secure Key Extraction using CSI without Chasing down ErrorsJizhong Zhao, Wei Xi, Jinsong Han et al.
Generating keys and keeping them secret is critical in secure communications. Due to the "open-air" nature, key distribution is more susceptible to attacks in wireless communications. An ingenious solution is to generate common secret keys by two communicating parties separately without the need of key exchange or distribution, and regenerate them on needs. Recently, it is promising to extract keys by measuring the random variation in wireless channels, e.g., RSS. In this paper, we propose an efficient Secret Key Extraction protocol without Chasing down Errors, SKECE. It establishes common cryptographic keys for two communicating parties in wireless networks via the realtime measurement of Channel State Information (CSI). It outperforms RSS-based approaches for key generation in terms of multiple subcarriers measurement, perfect symmetry in channel, rapid decorrelation with distance, and high sensitivity towards environments. In the SKECE design, we also propose effective mechanisms such as the adaptive key stream generation, leakage resilient consistence validation, and weighted key recombination, to fully exploit the excellent properties of CSI. We implement SKECE on off-the-shelf 802.11n devices and evaluate its performance via extensive experiments. The results demonstrate that SKECE achieves a more than 3x throughput gain in the key generation from one subcarrier in static scenarios, and due to its high efficiency, a 50% reduction on the communication overhead compared to the state-of-the-art RSS based approaches.
