Sparse Regularized Correlation Filter for UAV Object Tracking with adaptive Contextual Learning and Keyfilter Selection

Recently, correlation filter has been widely applied in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) tracking due to its high frame rates, robustness and low calculation resources. However, it is fragile because of two inherent defects, i.e, boundary effect and filter corruption. Some methods by enlarging the search area can mitigate the boundary effect, yet introducing the undesired background distractors. Another approaches can alleviate the temporal degeneration of learned filters by introducing the temporal regularizer, which depends on the assumption that the filers between consecutive frames should be coherent. In fact, sometimes the filers at the ($t-1$)th frame is vulnerable to heavy occlusion from backgrounds, which causes that the assumption does not hold. To handle them, in this work, we propose a novel $\ell_{1}$ regularization correlation filter with adaptive contextual learning and keyfilter selection for UAV tracking. Firstly, we adaptively detect the positions of effective contextual distractors by the aid of the distribution of local maximum values on the response map of current frame which is generated by using the previous correlation filter model. Next, we eliminate inconsistent labels for the tracked target by removing one on each distractor and develop a new score scheme for each distractor. Then, we can select the keyfilter from the filters pool by finding the maximal similarity between the target at the current frame and the target template corresponding to each filter in the filters pool. Finally, quantitative and qualitative experiments on three authoritative UAV datasets show that the proposed method is superior to the state-of-the-art tracking methods based on correlation filter framework.

Unsupervised Spectral Demosaicing with Lightweight Spectral Attention Networks

This paper presents a deep learning-based spectral demosaicing technique trained in an unsupervised manner. Many existing deep learning-based techniques relying on supervised learning with synthetic images, often underperform on real-world images especially when the number of spectral bands increases. According to the characteristics of the spectral mosaic image, this paper proposes a mosaic loss function, the corresponding model structure, a transformation strategy, and an early stopping strategy, which form a complete unsupervised spectral demosaicing framework. A challenge in real-world spectral demosaicing is inconsistency between the model parameters and the computational resources of the imager. We reduce the complexity and parameters of the spectral attention module by dividing the spectral attention tensor into spectral attention matrices in the spatial dimension and spectral attention vector in the channel dimension, which is more suitable for unsupervised framework. This paper also presents Mosaic25, a real 25-band hyperspectral mosaic image dataset of various objects, illuminations, and materials for benchmarking. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms conventional unsupervised methods in terms of spatial distortion suppression, spectral fidelity, robustness, and computational cost.

Dual-Prompt CLIP with Hybrid Visual Encoders for Occluded Person Re-Identification

Occluded person re-identification focuses on matching partially visible pedestrians across multiple camera views. However, occlusions disrupt body-region cues, thereby complicating cross-view matching. Most person ReID methods built on pretrained vision-language models only focus on enhancing prompt-based feature learning while ignoring the semantic information of occluders. Based on the success of CLIP-ReID, we propose a novel Dual Prompt Learning ReID (DPL-ReID) model for occluded person ReID. It incorporates a Dual Prompt Learning (Dual-PL) strategy, which can utilize textual cues to capture complete pedestrian semantics and keep robustness against occlusion, and a Real-World Occlusion Augmentation (RWOA) method that realistically simulates occlusion scenarios encountered in real word to enrich occluded samples. In addition, we also design a Weighted Gated Feature Fusion (WGFF) method, which in corporates LSNet to capture global information and act as a feature-gating mechanism. This mechanism can effectively guide the CLIP visual encoder toward generating more comprehensive feature representations. Extensive experiments on several benchmark occluded ReID datasets show that our proposed DPL-ReID achieves the state-of-the art performance. Inheriting Bayer's Legacy-Joint Remosaicing and Denoising for Quad Bayer Image Sensor

Pixel binning based Quad sensors have emerged as a promising solution to overcome the hardware limitations of compact cameras in low-light imaging. However, binning results in lower spatial resolution and non-Bayer CFA artifacts. To address these challenges, we propose a dual-head joint remosaicing and denoising network (DJRD), which enables the conversion of noisy Quad Bayer and standard noise-free Bayer pattern without any resolution loss. DJRD includes a newly designed Quad Bayer remosaicing (QB-Re) block, integrated denoising modules based on Swin-transformer and multi-scale wavelet transform. The QB-Re block constructs the convolution kernel based on the CFA pattern to achieve a periodic color distribution in the perceptual field, which is used to extract exact spectral information and reduce color misalignment. The integrated Swin-Transformer and multi-scale wavelet transform capture non-local dependencies, frequency and location information to effectively reduce practical noise. By identifying challenging patches utilizing Moire and zipper detection metrics, we enable our model to concentrate on difficult patches during the post-training phase, which enhances the model's performance in hard cases. Our proposed model outperforms competing models by approximately 3dB, without additional complexity in hardware or software.

MSFA-Frequency-Aware Transformer for Hyperspectral Images Demosaicing

Hyperspectral imaging systems that use multispectral filter arrays (MSFA) capture only one spectral component in each pixel. Hyperspectral demosaicing is used to recover the non-measured components. While deep learning methods have shown promise in this area, they still suffer from several challenges, including limited modeling of non-local dependencies, lack of consideration of the periodic MSFA pattern that could be linked to periodic artifacts, and difficulty in recovering high-frequency details. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel de-mosaicing framework, the MSFA-frequency-aware Transformer network (FDM-Net). FDM-Net integrates a novel MSFA-frequency-aware multi-head self-attention mechanism (MaFormer) and a filter-based Fourier zero-padding method to reconstruct high pass components with greater difficulty and low pass components with relative ease, separately. The advantage of Maformer is that it can leverage the MSFA information and non-local dependencies present in the data. Additionally, we introduce a joint spatial and frequency loss to transfer MSFA information and enhance training on frequency components that are hard to recover. Our experimental results demonstrate that FDM-Net outperforms state-of-the-art methods with 6dB PSNR, and reconstructs high-fidelity details successfully.

Statistical Tests for Replacing Human Decision Makers with Algorithms

This paper proposes a statistical framework of using artificial intelligence to improve human decision making. The performance of each human decision maker is benchmarked against that of machine predictions. We replace the diagnoses made by a subset of the decision makers with the recommendation from the machine learning algorithm. We apply both a heuristic frequentist approach and a Bayesian posterior loss function approach to abnormal birth detection using a nationwide dataset of doctor diagnoses from prepregnancy checkups of reproductive age couples and pregnancy outcomes. We find that our algorithm on a test dataset results in a higher overall true positive rate and a lower false positive rate than the diagnoses made by doctors only.

InsQABench: Benchmarking Chinese Insurance Domain Question Answering with Large Language Models

The application of large language models (LLMs) has achieved remarkable success in various fields, but their effectiveness in specialized domains like the Chinese insurance industry remains underexplored. The complexity of insurance knowledge, encompassing specialized terminology and diverse data types, poses significant challenges for both models and users. To address this, we introduce InsQABench, a benchmark dataset for the Chinese insurance sector, structured into three categories: Insurance Commonsense Knowledge, Insurance Structured Database, and Insurance Unstructured Documents, reflecting real-world insurance question-answering tasks.We also propose two methods, SQL-ReAct and RAG-ReAct, to tackle challenges in structured and unstructured data tasks. Evaluations show that while LLMs struggle with domain-specific terminology and nuanced clause texts, fine-tuning on InsQABench significantly improves performance. Small Object Detection Model with Spatial Laplacian Pyramid Attention and Multi-Scale Features Enhancement in Aerial Images

Detecting objects in aerial images confronts some significant challenges, including small size, dense and non-uniform distribution of objects over high-resolution images, which makes detection inefficient. Thus, in this paper, we proposed a small object detection algorithm based on a Spatial Laplacian Pyramid Attention and Multi-Scale Feature Enhancement in aerial images. Firstly, in order to improve the feature representation of ResNet-50 on small objects, we presented a novel Spatial Laplacian Pyramid Attention (SLPA) module, which is integrated after each stage of ResNet-50 to identify and emphasize important local regions. Secondly, to enhance the model's semantic understanding and features representation, we designed a Multi-Scale Feature Enhancement Module (MSFEM), which is incorporated into the lateral connections of C5 layer for building Feature Pyramid Network (FPN). Finally, the features representation quality of traditional feature pyramid network will be affected because the features are not aligned when the upper and lower layers are fused. In order to handle it, we utilized deformable convolutions to align the features in the fusion processing of the upper and lower levels of the Feature Pyramid Network, which can help enhance the model's ability to detect and recognize small objects. The extensive experimental results on two benchmark datasets: VisDrone and DOTA demonstrate that our improved model performs better for small object detection in aerial images compared to the original algorithm.

MIPI 2024 Challenge on Demosaic for HybridEVS Camera: Methods and Results

The increasing demand for computational photography and imaging on mobile platforms has led to the widespread development and integration of advanced image sensors with novel algorithms in camera systems. However, the scarcity of high-quality data for research and the rare opportunity for in-depth exchange of views from industry and academia constrain the development of mobile intelligent photography and imaging (MIPI). Building on the achievements of the previous MIPI Workshops held at ECCV 2022 and CVPR 2023, we introduce our third MIPI challenge including three tracks focusing on novel image sensors and imaging algorithms. In this paper, we summarize and review the Nighttime Flare Removal track on MIPI 2024. In total, 170 participants were successfully registered, and 14 teams submitted results in the final testing phase. The developed solutions in this challenge achieved state-of-the-art performance on Nighttime Flare Removal. Exploring Stronger Transformer Representation Learning for Occluded Person Re-Identification

Due to some complex factors (e.g., occlusion, pose variation and diverse camera perspectives), extracting stronger feature representation in person re-identification remains a challenging task. In this paper, we proposed a novel self-supervision and supervision combining transformer-based person re-identification framework, namely SSSC-TransReID. Different from the general transformer-based person re-identification models, we designed a self-supervised contrastive learning branch, which can enhance the feature representation for person re-identification without negative samples or additional pre-training. In order to train the contrastive learning branch, we also proposed a novel random rectangle mask strategy to simulate the occlusion in real scenes, so as to enhance the feature representation for occlusion. Finally, we utilized the joint-training loss function to integrate the advantages of supervised learning with ID tags and self-supervised contrastive learning without negative samples, which can reinforce the ability of our model to excavate stronger discriminative features, especially for occlusion. Extensive experimental results on several benchmark datasets show our proposed model obtains superior Re-ID performance consistently and outperforms the state-of-the-art ReID methods by large margins on the mean average accuracy (mAP) and Rank-1 accuracy.

Task-Centric Policy Optimization from Misaligned Motion Priors

Humanoid control often leverages motion priors from human demonstrations to encourage natural behaviors. However, such demonstrations are frequently suboptimal or misaligned with robotic tasks due to embodiment differences, retargeting errors, and task-irrelevant variations, causing naïve imitation to degrade task performance. Conversely, task-only reinforcement learning admits many task-optimal solutions, often resulting in unnatural or unstable motions. This exposes a fundamental limitation of linear reward mixing in adversarial imitation learning. We propose \emph{Task-Centric Motion Priors} (TCMP), a task-priority adversarial imitation framework that treats imitation as a conditional regularizer rather than a co-equal objective. TCMP maximizes task improvement while incorporating imitation signals only when they are compatible with task progress, yielding an adaptive, geometry-aware update that preserves task-feasible descent and suppresses harmful imitation under misalignment. We provide theoretical analysis of gradient conflict and task-priority stationary points, and validate our claims through humanoid control experiments demonstrating robust task performance with consistent motion style under noisy demonstrations.

A Coarse-to-Fine Human Pose Estimation Method based on Two-stage Distillation and Progressive Graph Neural Network

Human pose estimation has been widely applied in the human-centric understanding and generation, but most existing state-of-the-art human pose estimation methods require heavy computational resources for accurate predictions. In order to obtain an accurate, robust yet lightweight human pose estimator, one feasible way is to transfer pose knowledge from a powerful teacher model to a less-parameterized student model by knowledge distillation. However, the traditional knowledge distillation framework does not fully explore the contextual information among human joints. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel coarse-to-fine two-stage knowledge distillation framework for human pose estimation. In the first-stage distillation, we introduce the human joints structure loss to mine the structural information among human joints so as to transfer high-level semantic knowledge from the teacher model to the student model. In the second-stage distillation, we utilize an Image-Guided Progressive Graph Convolutional Network (IGP-GCN) to refine the initial human pose obtained from the first-stage distillation and supervise the training of the IGP-GCN in the progressive way by the final output pose of teacher model. The extensive experiments on the benchmark dataset: COCO keypoint and CrowdPose datasets, show that our proposed method performs favorably against lots of the existing state-of-the-art human pose estimation methods, especially for the more complex CrowdPose dataset, the performance improvement of our model is more significant.

Generative Model-Assisted Demosaicing for Cross-multispectral Cameras

As a crucial part of the spectral filter array (SFA)-based multispectral imaging process, spectral demosaicing has exploded with the proliferation of deep learning techniques. However, (1) bothering by the difficulty of capturing corresponding labels for real data or simulating the practical spectral imaging process, end-to-end networks trained in a supervised manner using simulated data often perform poorly on real data. (2) cross-camera spectral discrepancies make it difficult to apply pre-trained models to new cameras. (3) existing demosaicing networks are prone to introducing visual artifacts on hard cases due to the interpolation of unknown values. To address these issues, we propose a hybrid supervised training method with the assistance of the self-supervised generative model, which performs well on real data across different spectral cameras. Specifically, our approach consists of three steps: (1) Pre-Training step: training the end-to-end neural network on a large amount of simulated data; (2) Pseudo-Pairing step: generating pseudo-labels of real target data using the self-supervised generative model; (3) Fine-Tuning step: fine-tuning the pre-trained model on the pseudo data pairs obtained in (2). To alleviate artifacts, we propose a frequency-domain hard patch selection method that identifies artifact-prone regions by analyzing spectral discrepancies using Fourier transform and filtering techniques, allowing targeted fine-tuning to enhance demosaicing performance. Finally, we propose UniSpecTest, a real-world multispectral mosaic image dataset for testing. Ablation experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness of each training step, and extensive experiments on both synthetic and real datasets show that our method achieves significant performance gains compared to state-of-the-art techniques.

Degradation-Noise-Aware Deep Unfolding Transformer for Hyperspectral Image Denoising

Hyperspectral imaging (HI) has emerged as a powerful tool in diverse fields such as medical diagnosis, industrial inspection, and agriculture, owing to its ability to detect subtle differences in physical properties through high spectral resolution. However, hyperspectral images (HSIs) are often quite noisy because of narrow band spectral filtering. To reduce the noise in HSI data cubes, both model-driven and learning-based denoising algorithms have been proposed. However, model-based approaches rely on hand-crafted priors and hyperparameters, while learning-based methods are incapable of estimating the inherent degradation patterns and noise distributions in the imaging procedure, which could inform supervised learning. Secondly, learning-based algorithms predominantly rely on CNN and fail to capture long-range dependencies, resulting in limited interpretability. This paper proposes a Degradation-Noise-Aware Unfolding Network (DNA-Net) that addresses these issues. Firstly, DNA-Net models sparse noise, Gaussian noise, and explicitly represent image prior using transformer. Then the model is unfolded into an end-to-end network, the hyperparameters within the model are estimated from the noisy HSI and degradation model and utilizes them to control each iteration. Additionally, we introduce a novel U-Shaped Local-Non-local-Spectral Transformer (U-LNSA) that captures spectral correlation, local contents, and non-local dependencies simultaneously. By integrating U-LNSA into DNA-Net, we present the first Transformer-based deep unfolding HSI denoising method. Experimental results show that DNA-Net outperforms state-of-the-art methods, and the modeling of noise distributions helps in cases with heavy noise.

TS4Net: Two-Stage Sample Selective Strategy for Rotating Object Detection

Rotating object detection has wide applications in aerial photographs, remote sensing images, UAVs, etc. At present, most of the rotating object detection datasets focus on the field of remote sensing, and these images are usually shot in high-altitude scenes. However, image datasets captured at low-altitude areas also should be concerned, such as drone-based datasets. So we present a low-altitude dronebased dataset, named UAV-ROD, aiming to promote the research and development in rotating object detection and UAV applications. The UAV-ROD consists of 1577 images and 30,090 instances of car category annotated by oriented bounding boxes. In particular, The UAV-ROD can be utilized for the rotating object detection, vehicle orientation recognition and object counting tasks. Compared with horizontal object detection, the regression stage of the rotation detection is a tricky problem. In this paper, we propose a rotating object detector TS4Net, which contains anchor refinement module (ARM) and two-stage sample selective strategy (TS4). The ARM can convert preseted horizontal anchors into high-quality rotated anchors through twostage anchor refinement. The TS4 module utilizes different constrained sample selective strategies to allocate positive and negative samples, which is adaptive to the regression task in different stages. Benefiting from the ARM and TS4, the TS4Net can achieve superior performance for rotating object detection solely with one preseted horizontal anchor. Extensive experimental results on UAV-ROD dataset and three remote sensing datasets DOTA, HRSC2016 and UCAS-AOD demonstrate that our method achieves competitive performance against most state-of-the-art methods.

Dynamic Curriculum Learning for Low-Resource Neural Machine Translation

Large amounts of data has made neural machine translation (NMT) a big success in recent years. But it is still a challenge if we train these models on small-scale corpora. In this case, the way of using data appears to be more important. Here, we investigate the effective use of training data for low-resource NMT. In particular, we propose a dynamic curriculum learning (DCL) method to reorder training samples in training. Unlike previous work, we do not use a static scoring function for reordering. Instead, the order of training samples is dynamically determined in two ways - loss decline and model competence. This eases training by highlighting easy samples that the current model has enough competence to learn. We test our DCL method in a Transformer-based system. Experimental results show that DCL outperforms several strong baselines on three low-resource machine translation benchmarks and different sized data of WMT' 16 En-De.

Decision Making with Machine Learning and ROC Curves

The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve is a representation of the statistical information discovered in binary classification problems and is a key concept in machine learning and data science. This paper studies the statistical properties of ROC curves and its implication on model selection. We analyze the implications of different models of incentive heterogeneity and information asymmetry on the relation between human decisions and the ROC curves. Our theoretical discussion is illustrated in the context of a large data set of pregnancy outcomes and doctor diagnosis from the Pre-Pregnancy Checkups of reproductive age couples in Henan Province provided by the Chinese Ministry of Health.

SVM-based Deep Stacking Networks

The deep network model, with the majority built on neural networks, has been proved to be a powerful framework to represent complex data for high performance machine learning. In recent years, more and more studies turn to nonneural network approaches to build diverse deep structures, and the Deep Stacking Network (DSN) model is one of such approaches that uses stacked easy-to-learn blocks to build a parameter-training-parallelizable deep network. In this paper, we propose a novel SVM-based Deep Stacking Network (SVM-DSN), which uses the DSN architecture to organize linear SVM classifiers for deep learning. A BP-like layer tuning scheme is also proposed to ensure holistic and local optimizations of stacked SVMs simultaneously. Some good math properties of SVM, such as the convex optimization, is introduced into the DSN framework by our model. From a global view, SVM-DSN can iteratively extract data representations layer by layer as a deep neural network but with parallelizability, and from a local view, each stacked SVM can converge to its optimal solution and obtain the support vectors, which compared with neural networks could lead to interesting improvements in anti-saturation and interpretability. Experimental results on both image and text data sets demonstrate the excellent performances of SVM-DSN compared with some competitive benchmark models.

Part-based Visual Tracking via Structural Support Correlation Filter

Recently, part-based and support vector machines (SVM) based trackers have shown favorable performance. Nonetheless, the time-consuming online training and updating process limit their real-time applications. In order to better deal with the partial occlusion issue and improve their efficiency, we propose a novel part-based structural support correlation filter tracking method, which absorbs the strong discriminative ability from SVM and the excellent property of part-based tracking methods which is less sensitive to partial occlusion. Then, our proposed model can learn the support correlation filter of each part jointly by a star structure model, which preserves the spatial layout structure among parts and tolerates outliers of parts. In addition, to mitigate the issue of drift away from object further, we introduce inter-frame consistencies of local parts into our model. Finally, in our model, we accurately estimate the scale changes of object by the relative distance change among reliable parts. The extensive empirical evaluations on three benchmark datasets: OTB2015, TempleColor128 and VOT2015 demonstrate that the proposed method performs superiorly against several state-of-the-art trackers in terms of tracking accuracy, speed and robustness.
