Sequence-Based Plan Feasibility Prediction for Efficient Task and Motion Planning

Zhutian Yang, Caelan Reed Garrett, Tomás Lozano-Pérez et al. · mit

We present a learning-enabled Task and Motion Planning (TAMP) algorithm for solving mobile manipulation problems in environments with many articulated and movable obstacles. Our idea is to bias the search procedure of a traditional TAMP planner with a learned plan feasibility predictor. The core of our algorithm is PIGINet, a novel Transformer-based learning method that takes in a task plan, the goal, and the initial state, and predicts the probability of finding motion trajectories associated with the task plan. We integrate PIGINet within a TAMP planner that generates a diverse set of high-level task plans, sorts them by their predicted likelihood of feasibility, and refines them in that order. We evaluate the runtime of our TAMP algorithm on seven families of kitchen rearrangement problems, comparing its performance to that of non-learning baselines. Our experiments show that PIGINet substantially improves planning efficiency, cutting down runtime by 80% on problems with small state spaces and 10%-50% on larger ones, after being trained on only 150-600 problems. Finally, it also achieves zero-shot generalization to problems with unseen object categories thanks to its visual encoding of objects. Project page https://piginet.github.io/.

Lucid-XR: An Extended-Reality Data Engine for Robotic Manipulation

Yajvan Ravan, Adam Rashid, Alan Yu et al.

We introduce Lucid-XR, a generative data engine for creating diverse and realistic-looking multi-modal data to train real-world robotic systems. At the core of Lucid-XR is vuer, a web-based physics simulation environment that runs directly on the XR headset, enabling internet-scale access to immersive, latency-free virtual interactions without requiring specialized equipment. The complete system integrates on-device physics simulation with human-to-robot pose retargeting. Data collected is further amplified by a physics-guided video generation pipeline steerable via natural language specifications. We demonstrate zero-shot transfer of robot visual policies to unseen, cluttered, and badly lit evaluation environments, after training entirely on Lucid-XR's synthetic data. We include examples across dexterous manipulation tasks that involve soft materials, loosely bound particles, and rigid body contact. Project website: https://lucidxr.github.io

Compositional Diffusion-Based Continuous Constraint Solvers

Zhutian Yang, Jiayuan Mao, Yilun Du et al.

This paper introduces an approach for learning to solve continuous constraint satisfaction problems (CCSP) in robotic reasoning and planning. Previous methods primarily rely on hand-engineering or learning generators for specific constraint types and then rejecting the value assignments when other constraints are violated. By contrast, our model, the compositional diffusion continuous constraint solver (Diffusion-CCSP) derives global solutions to CCSPs by representing them as factor graphs and combining the energies of diffusion models trained to sample for individual constraint types. Diffusion-CCSP exhibits strong generalization to novel combinations of known constraints, and it can be integrated into a task and motion planner to devise long-horizon plans that include actions with both discrete and continuous parameters. Let's Handle It: Generalizable Manipulation of Articulated Objects

Zhutian Yang, Aidan Curtis

In this project we present a framework for building generalizable manipulation controller policies that map from raw input point clouds and segmentation masks to joint velocities. We took a traditional robotics approach, using point cloud processing, end-effector trajectory calculation, inverse kinematics, closed-loop position controllers, and behavior trees. We demonstrate our framework on four manipulation skills on common household objects that comprise the SAPIEN ManiSkill Manipulation challenge.
