GMBFormer: An NDVI-Guided Global Memory Bank Transformer for Urban Green-Space Extraction from Ultra-High-Resolution ImageryHao Lei, Xi Cheng, Chenlu Shu et al.
Urban green-space extraction from ultra-high-resolution (UHR) imagery is commonly performed patch by patch, which limits semantic reuse among spatially separated but visually similar vegetation patterns. Directly injecting the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) into red-green-blue (RGB) backbones can also blur the roles of visual appearance learning and physical vegetation confidence. We propose GMBFormer, a SegFormer-based framework that replaces adjacency-driven feature propagation with selective, similarity-driven prototype retrieval. Only RGB channels enter the backbone and decoder, while NDVI is decoupled as a physics-informed gate that admits high-confidence vegetation descriptors into a compact global memory bank through momentum updates. During training and inference, the current patch queries stored prototypes through memory-mediated cross-attention, and the retrieved response is integrated with bounded overhead. Experiments use a self-constructed Chengdu UHR dataset with 7,700 labeled 512 x 512 patches and two reduced-label settings derived from the public International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Potsdam dataset. Under the same training and evaluation protocol, GMBFormer obtains mean intersection over union (mIoU)/mean Dice (mDice) scores of 89.25%/94.31%, 92.17%/95.92%, and 83.72%/90.86%, respectively, improving the controlled SegFormer-B4 baseline in each setting. Ablation studies indicate that decoupled NDVI admission, memory retrieval, capacity, and momentum jointly shape the final performance.

Intelligent Painter: Picture Composition With Resampling Diffusion ModelWing-Fung Ku, Wan-Chi Siu, Xi Cheng et al.
Have you ever thought that you can be an intelligent painter? This means that you can paint a picture with a few expected objects in mind, or with a desirable scene. This is different from normal inpainting approaches for which the location of specific objects cannot be determined. In this paper, we present an intelligent painter that generate a person's imaginary scene in one go, given explicit hints. We propose a resampling strategy for Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DDPM) to intelligently compose unconditional harmonized pictures according to the input subjects at specific locations. By exploiting the diffusion property, we resample efficiently to produce realistic pictures. Experimental results show that our resampling method favors the semantic meaning of the generated output efficiently and generates less blurry output. Quantitative analysis of image quality assessment shows that our method produces higher perceptual quality images compared with the state-of-the-art methods.

xASTNN: Improved Code Representations for Industrial PracticeZhiwei Xu, Min Zhou, Xibin Zhao et al.
The application of deep learning techniques in software engineering becomes increasingly popular. One key problem is developing high-quality and easy-to-use source code representations for code-related tasks. The research community has acquired impressive results in recent years. However, due to the deployment difficulties and performance bottlenecks, seldom these approaches are applied to the industry. In this paper, we present xASTNN, an eXtreme Abstract Syntax Tree (AST)-based Neural Network for source code representation, aiming to push this technique to industrial practice. The proposed xASTNN has three advantages. First, xASTNN is completely based on widely-used ASTs and does not require complicated data pre-processing, making it applicable to various programming languages and practical scenarios. Second, three closely-related designs are proposed to guarantee the effectiveness of xASTNN, including statement subtree sequence for code naturalness, gated recursive unit for syntactical information, and gated recurrent unit for sequential information. Third, a dynamic batching algorithm is introduced to significantly reduce the time complexity of xASTNN. Two code comprehension downstream tasks, code classification and code clone detection, are adopted for evaluation. The results demonstrate that our xASTNN can improve the state-of-the-art while being faster than the baselines.

AI Delegates with a Dual Focus: Ensuring Privacy and Strategic Self-DisclosureZhiyang Zhang, Xi Chen, Fangkai Yang et al.
Large language model (LLM)-based AI delegates are increasingly utilized to act on behalf of users, assisting them with a wide range of tasks through conversational interfaces. Despite their advantages, concerns arise regarding the potential risk of privacy leaks, particularly in scenarios involving social interactions. While existing research has focused on protecting privacy by limiting the access of AI delegates to sensitive user information, many social scenarios require disclosing private details to achieve desired social goals, necessitating a balance between privacy protection and disclosure. To address this challenge, we first conduct a pilot study to investigate user perceptions of AI delegates across various social relations and task scenarios, and then propose a novel AI delegate system that enables privacy-conscious self-disclosure. Our user study demonstrates that the proposed AI delegate strategically protects privacy, pioneering its use in diverse and dynamic social interactions.

V2X-VLM: End-to-End V2X Cooperative Autonomous Driving Through Large Vision-Language ModelsJunwei You, Haotian Shi, Zhuoyu Jiang et al.
Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) cooperation has emerged as a promising paradigm to overcome the perception limitations of classical autonomous driving by leveraging information from both ego-vehicle and infrastructure sensors. However, effectively fusing heterogeneous visual and semantic information while ensuring robust trajectory planning remains a significant challenge. This paper introduces V2X-VLM, a novel end-to-end (E2E) cooperative autonomous driving framework based on vision-language models (VLMs). V2X-VLM integrates multiperspective camera views from vehicles and infrastructure with text-based scene descriptions to enable a more comprehensive understanding of driving environments. Specifically, we propose a contrastive learning-based mechanism to reinforce the alignment of heterogeneous visual and textual characteristics, which enhances the semantic understanding of complex driving scenarios, and employ a knowledge distillation strategy to stabilize training. Experiments on a large real-world dataset demonstrate that V2X-VLM achieves state-of-the-art trajectory planning accuracy, significantly reducing L2 error and collision rate compared to existing cooperative autonomous driving baselines. Ablation studies validate the contributions of each component. Moreover, the evaluation of robustness and efficiency highlights the practicality of V2X-VLM for real-world deployment to enhance overall autonomous driving safety and decision-making.

A Crowdsensing Intrusion Detection Dataset For Decentralized Federated Learning ModelsChao Feng, Alberto Huertas Celdran, Jing Han et al.
This paper introduces a dataset and an experimental study on Decentralized Federated Learning (DFL) for Internet of Things (IoT) crowdsensing malware detection. The dataset comprises behavioral records from benign and eight malware attacks. A total of 21,582,484 original records were collected from system calls, file system activities, resource usage, kernel events, input/output events, and network records. These records were aggregated into 30-second windows, resulting in 342,106 data records used for model training and evaluation. Experiments on the DFL platform compare traditional Machine Learning (ML), Centralized Federated Learning (CFL), and DFL across different node counts, topologies, and data distributions. Results show that DFL maintains competitive performance while preserving data locality, outperforming CFL in most settings. This dataset provides a solid foundation for studying the security of IoT crowdsensing environments.

LLM-MLFFN: Multi-Level Autonomous Driving Behavior Feature Fusion via Large Language ModelXiangyu Li, Tianyi Wang, Xi Cheng et al.
Accurate classification of autonomous vehicle (AV) driving behaviors is critical for safety validation, performance diagnosis, and traffic integration analysis. However, existing approaches primarily rely on numerical time-series modeling and often lack semantic abstraction, limiting interpretability and robustness in complex traffic environments. This paper presents LLM-MLFFN, a novel large language model (LLM)-enhanced multi-level feature fusion network designed to address the complexities of multi-dimensional driving data. The proposed LLM-MLFFN framework integrates priors from largescale pre-trained models and employs a multi-level approach to enhance classification accuracy. LLM-MLFFN comprises three core components: (1) a multi-level feature extraction module that extracts statistical, behavioral, and dynamic features to capture the quantitative aspects of driving behaviors; (2) a semantic description module that leverages LLMs to transform raw data into high-level semantic features; and (3) a dual-channel multi-level feature fusion network that combines numerical and semantic features using weighted attention mechanisms to improve robustness and prediction accuracy. Evaluation on the Waymo open trajectory dataset demonstrates the superior performance of the proposed LLM-MLFFN, achieving a classification accuracy of over 94%, surpassing existing machine learning models. Ablation studies further validate the critical contributions of multi-level fusion, feature extraction strategies, and LLM-derived semantic reasoning. These results suggest that integrating structured feature modeling with language-driven semantic abstraction provides a principled and interpretable pathway for robust autonomous driving behavior classification.

Finally, this paper summarizes the problems existing in the current research and prospects the future of CCR. Compared with the existing review of CCR, this paper expounds and analyzes the progress of neural network model in this field in recent years.

Multi-View Hierarchical Graph Neural Network for Sketch-Based 3D Shape RetrievalHang Cheng, Muyan He, Mingyu Fan et al.
Sketch-based 3D shape retrieval (SBSR) aims to retrieve 3D shapes that are consistent with the category of the input hand-drawn sketch. The core challenge of this task lies in two aspects: existing methods typically employ simplified aggregation strategies for independently encoded 3D multi-view features, which ignore the geometric relationships between views and multi-level details, resulting in weak 3D representation. Simultaneously, traditional SBSR methods are constrained by visible category limitations, leading to poor performance in zero-shot scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose Multi-View Hierarchical Graph Neural Network (MV-HGNN), a novel framework for SBSR. Specifically, we construct a view-level graph and capture adjacent geometric dependencies and cross-view message passing via local graph convolution and global attention. A view selector is further introduced to perform hierarchical graph coarsening, enabling a progressively larger receptive field for graph convolution and mitigating the interference of redundant views, which leads to more discriminate discriminative hierarchical 3D representation. To enable category agnostic alignment and mitigate overfitting to seen classes, we leverage CLIP text embeddings as semantic prototypes and project both sketch and 3D features into a shared semantic space. We use a two-stage training strategy for category-level retrieval and a one-stage strategy for zero-shot retrieval under the same model architecture. Under both category-level and zero-shot settings, extensive experiments on two public benchmarks demonstrate that MV-HGNN outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Training-Free Point Cloud Recognition Based on Geometric and Semantic Information FusionYan Chen, Di Huang, Zhichao Liao et al.
The trend of employing training-free methods for point cloud recognition is becoming increasingly popular due to its significant reduction in computational resources and time costs. However, existing approaches are limited as they typically extract either geometric or semantic features. To address this limitation, we are the first to propose a novel training-free method that integrates both geometric and semantic features. For the geometric branch, we adopt a non-parametric strategy to extract geometric features. In the semantic branch, we leverage a model aligned with text features to obtain semantic features. Additionally, we introduce the GFE module to complement the geometric information of point clouds and the MFF module to improve performance in few-shot settings. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art training-free approaches on mainstream benchmark datasets, including ModelNet and ScanObiectNN.

Polynomial Regression As an Alternative to Neural NetsXi Cheng, Bohdan Khomtchouk, Norman Matloff et al.
Despite the success of neural networks (NNs), there is still a concern among many over their "black box" nature. Why do they work? Here we present a simple analytic argument that NNs are in fact essentially polynomial regression models. This view will have various implications for NNs, e.g. providing an explanation for why convergence problems arise in NNs, and it gives rough guidance on avoiding overfitting. In addition, we use this phenomenon to predict and confirm a multicollinearity property of NNs not previously reported in the literature. Most importantly, given this loose correspondence, one may choose to routinely use polynomial models instead of NNs, thus avoiding some major problems of the latter, such as having to set many tuning parameters and dealing with convergence issues. We present a number of empirical results; in each case, the accuracy of the polynomial approach matches or exceeds that of NN approaches. A many-featured, open-source software package, polyreg, is available.

Airport Delay Prediction with Temporal Fusion TransformersKe Liu, Kaijing Ding, Xi Cheng et al.
Since flight delay hurts passengers, airlines, and airports, its prediction becomes crucial for the decision-making of all stakeholders in the aviation industry and thus has been attempted by various previous research. However, previous delay predictions are often categorical and at a highly aggregated level. To improve that, this study proposes to apply the novel Temporal Fusion Transformer model and predict numerical airport arrival delays at quarter hour level for U.S. top 30 airports. Inputs to our model include airport demand and capacity forecasts, historic airport operation efficiency information, airport wind and visibility conditions, as well as enroute weather and traffic conditions. The results show that our model achieves satisfactory performance measured by small prediction errors on the test set. In addition, the interpretability analysis of the model outputs identifies the important input factors for delay prediction.

SheetMind: An End-to-End LLM-Powered Multi-Agent Framework for Spreadsheet AutomationRuiyan Zhu, Xi Cheng, Ke Liu et al.
We present SheetMind, a modular multi-agent framework powered by large language models (LLMs) for spreadsheet automation via natural language instructions. The system comprises three specialized agents: a Manager Agent that decomposes complex user instructions into subtasks; an Action Agent that translates these into structured commands using a Backus Naur Form (BNF) grammar; and a Reflection Agent that validates alignment between generated actions and the user's original intent. Integrated into Google Sheets via a Workspace extension, SheetMind supports real-time interaction without requiring scripting or formula knowledge. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate an 80 percent success rate on single step tasks and approximately 70 percent on multi step instructions, outperforming ablated and baseline variants. Our results highlight the effectiveness of multi agent decomposition and grammar based execution for bridging natural language and spreadsheet functionalities.

Constraint-Aware Feature Learning for Parametric Point CloudXi Cheng, Ruiqi Lei, Di Huang et al.
Parametric point clouds are sampled from CAD shapes and are becoming increasingly common in industrial manufacturing. Most CAD-specific deep learning methods focus on geometric features, while overlooking constraints inherent in CAD shapes. This limits their ability to discern CAD shapes with similar appearances but different constraints. To tackle this challenge, we first analyze the constraint importance via simple validation experiments. Then, we introduce a deep learning-friendly constraints representation with three components, and design a constraint-aware feature learning network (CstNet), which includes two stages. Stage 1 extracts constraint representation from BRep data or point cloud based on local features. It enables better generalization ability to unseen dataset after pre-training. Stage 2 employs attention layers to adaptively adjust the weights of three constraints' components. It facilitates the effective utilization of constraints. In addition, we built the first multi-modal parametric-purpose dataset, i.e. Param20K, comprising about 20K CAD instances of 75 classes. On this dataset, CstNet achieved 3.49% (classification) and 26.17% (rotation robustness) accuracy improvements over the state-of-the-art. To the best of our knowledge, CstNet is the first constraint-aware deep learning method tailored for parametric point cloud analysis.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for Real-Time Ground Delay Program Revision and Corresponding Flight Delay AssignmentsKe Liu, Fan Hu, Hui Lin et al.
This paper explores the optimization of Ground Delay Programs (GDP), a prevalent Traffic Management Initiative used in Air Traffic Management (ATM) to reconcile capacity and demand discrepancies at airports. Employing Reinforcement Learning (RL) to manage the inherent uncertainties in the national airspace system-such as weather variability, fluctuating flight demands, and airport arrival rates-we developed two RL models: Behavioral Cloning (BC) and Conservative Q-Learning (CQL). These models are designed to enhance GDP efficiency by utilizing a sophisticated reward function that integrates ground and airborne delays and terminal area congestion. We constructed a simulated single-airport environment, SAGDP_ENV, which incorporates real operational data along with predicted uncertainties to facilitate realistic decision-making scenarios. Utilizing the whole year 2019 data from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), our models aimed to preemptively set airport program rates. Despite thorough modeling and simulation, initial outcomes indicated that the models struggled to learn effectively, attributed potentially to oversimplified environmental assumptions. This paper discusses the challenges encountered, evaluates the models' performance against actual operational data, and outlines future directions to refine RL applications in ATM.

Transferable FB-GNN-MBE Framework for Potential Energy Surfaces: Data-Adaptive Transfer Learning in Deep Learned Many-Body Expansion TheorySiqi Chen, Zhiqiang Wang, Yili Shen et al.
Mechanistic understanding and rational design of complex chemical systems depend on fast and accurate predictions of electronic structures beyond individual building blocks. However, if the system exceeds hundreds of atoms, first-principles quantum mechanical (QM) modeling becomes impractical. In this study, we developed FB-GNN-MBE by integrating a fragment-based graph neural network (FB-GNN) into the many-body expansion (MBE) theory and demonstrated its capacity to reproduce first-principles potential energy surfaces (PES) for hierarchically structured systems with manageable accuracy, complexity, and interpretability. Specifically, we divided the entire system into basic building blocks (fragments), evaluated their one-fragment energies using a QM model, and addressed many-fragment interactions using the structure-property relationships trained by FB-GNNs. Our investigation shows that FB-GNN-MBE achieves chemical accuracy in predicting two-body (2B) and three-body (3B) energies across water, phenol, and mixture benchmarks, as well as the one-dimensional dissociation curves of water and phenol dimers. To transfer the success of FB-GNN-MBE across various systems with minimal computational costs and data demands, we developed and validated a teacher-student learning protocol. A heavy-weight FB-GNN trained on a mixed-density water cluster ensemble (teacher) distills its learned knowledge and passes it to a light-weight GNN (student), which is later fine-tuned on a uniform-density (H2O)21 cluster ensemble. This transfer learning strategy resulted in efficient and accurate prediction of 2B and 3B energies for variously sized water clusters without retraining. Our transferable FB-GNN-MBE framework outperformed conventional non-FB-GNN-based models and showed high practicality for large-scale molecular simulations.

CausalMamba: Interpretable State Space Modeling for Temporal Rumor CausalityXiaotong Zhan, Xi Cheng
Rumor detection on social media remains a challenging task due to the complex propagation dynamics and the limited interpretability of existing models. While recent neural architectures capture content and structural features, they often fail to reveal the underlying causal mechanisms of misinformation spread. We propose CausalMamba, a novel framework that integrates Mamba-based sequence modeling, graph convolutional networks (GCNs), and differentiable causal discovery via NOTEARS. CausalMamba learns joint representations of temporal tweet sequences and reply structures, while uncovering latent causal graphs to identify influential nodes within each propagation chain. Experiments on the Twitter15 dataset show that our model achieves competitive classification performance compared to strong baselines, and uniquely enables counterfactual intervention analysis. Qualitative results demonstrate that removing top-ranked causal nodes significantly alters graph connectivity, offering interpretable insights into rumor dynamics. Our framework provides a unified approach for rumor classification and influence analysis, paving the way for more explainable and actionable misinformation detection systems.

ARIMA_PLUS: Large-scale, Accurate, Automatic and Interpretable In-Database Time Series Forecasting and Anomaly Detection in Google BigQueryXi Cheng, Weijie Shen, Haoming Chen et al.
Time series forecasting and anomaly detection are common tasks for practitioners in industries such as retail, manufacturing, advertising and energy. Two unique challenges stand out: (1) efficiently and accurately forecasting time series or detecting anomalies in large volumes automatically; and (2) ensuring interpretability of results to effectively incorporate business insights. We present ARIMA_PLUS, a novel framework to overcome these two challenges by a unique combination of (a) accurate and interpretable time series models and (b) scalable and fully managed system infrastructure. The model has a sequential and modular structure to handle different components of the time series, including holiday effects, seasonality, trend, and anomalies, which enables high interpretability of the results. Novel enhancements are made to each module, and a unified framework is established to address both forecasting and anomaly detection tasks simultaneously. In terms of accuracy, its comprehensive benchmark on the 42 public datasets in the Monash forecasting repository shows superior performance over not only well-established statistical alternatives (such as ETS, ARIMA, TBATS, Prophet) but also newer neural network models (such as DeepAR, N-BEATS, PatchTST, TimeMixer). In terms of infrastructure, it is directly built into the query engine of BigQuery in Google Cloud. It uses a simple SQL interface and automates tedious technicalities such as data cleaning and model selection. It automatically scales with managed cloud computational and storage resources, making it possible to forecast 100 million time series using only 1.5 hours with a throughput of more than 18000 time series per second. In terms of interpretability, we present several case studies to demonstrate time series insights it generates and customizability it offers.

Integrating Natural Language Processing and Exercise Monitoring for Early Diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome: A Deep Learning ApproachYichen Zhao, Yuhua Wang, Xi Cheng et al.
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a medication condition characterized by abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. It increases the risk of majority of chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, and affects about one quarter of the global population. Therefore, early detection and timely intervention for MetS are crucial. Standard diagnosis for MetS components requires blood tests conducted within medical institutions. However, it is frequently underestimated, leading to unmet need for care for MetS population. This study aims to use the least physiological data and free texts about exercises related activities, which are obtained easily in daily life, to diagnosis MetS. We collected the data from 40 volunteers in a nursing home and used data augmentation to reduce the imbalance. We propose a deep learning framework for classifying MetS that integrates natural language processing (NLP) and exercise monitoring. The results showed that the best model reported a high positive result (AUROC=0.806 and REC=76.3%) through 3-fold cross-validation. Feature importance analysis revealed that text and minimum heart rate on a daily basis contribute the most in the classification of MetS. This study demonstrates the potential application of data that are easily measurable in daily life for the early diagnosis of MetS, which could contribute to reducing the cost of screening and management for MetS population.

Dance of Fireworks: An Interactive Broadcast Gymnastics Training System Based on Pose EstimationHaotian Chen, Ziyu Liu, Xi Cheng et al.
This study introduces Dance of Fireworks, an interactive system designed to combat sedentary health risks by enhancing engagement in radio calisthenics. Leveraging mobile device cameras and lightweight pose estimation (PoseNet/TensorFlow Lite), the system extracts body keypoints, computes joint angles, and compares them with standardized motions to deliver real-time corrective feedback. To incentivize participation, it dynamically maps users' movements (such as joint angles and velocity) to customizable fireworks animations, rewarding improved accuracy with richer visual effects. Experiments involving 136 participants demonstrated a significant reduction in average joint angle errors from 21.3 degrees to 9.8 degrees (p < 0.01) over four sessions, with 93.4 percent of users affirming its exercise-promoting efficacy and 85.4 percent praising its entertainment value. The system operates without predefined motion templates or specialised hardware, enabling seamless integration into office environments. Future enhancements will focus on improving pose recognition accuracy, reducing latency, and adding features such as multiplayer interaction and music synchronisation. This work presents a cost-effective, engaging solution to promote physical activity in sedentary populations.

MOT: A Mixture of Actors Reinforcement Learning Method by Optimal Transport for Algorithmic TradingXi Cheng, Jinghao Zhang, Yunan Zeng et al.
Algorithmic trading refers to executing buy and sell orders for specific assets based on automatically identified trading opportunities. Strategies based on reinforcement learning (RL) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in addressing algorithmic trading problems. However, the trading patterns differ among market conditions due to shifted distribution data. Ignoring multiple patterns in the data will undermine the performance of RL. In this paper, we propose MOT,which designs multiple actors with disentangled representation learning to model the different patterns of the market. Furthermore, we incorporate the Optimal Transport (OT) algorithm to allocate samples to the appropriate actor by introducing a regularization loss term. Additionally, we propose Pretrain Module to facilitate imitation learning by aligning the outputs of actors with expert strategy and better balance the exploration and exploitation of RL. Experimental results on real futures market data demonstrate that MOT exhibits excellent profit capabilities while balancing risks. Ablation studies validate the effectiveness of the components of MOT.

Structured illumination microscopy (SIM) is an important super-resolution based microscopy technique that breaks the diffraction limit and enhances optical microscopy systems. With the development of biology and medical engineering, there is a high demand for real-time and robust SIM imaging under extreme low light and short exposure environments. Existing SIM techniques typically require multiple structured illumination frames to produce a high-resolution image. In this paper, we propose a single-frame structured illumination microscopy (SF-SIM) based on deep learning. Our SF-SIM only needs one shot of a structured illumination frame and generates similar results compared with the traditional SIM systems that typically require 15 shots. In our SF-SIM, we propose a noise estimator which can effectively suppress the noise in the image and enable our method to work under the low light and short exposure environment, without the need for stacking multiple frames for non-local denoising. We also design a bandpass attention module that makes our deep network more sensitive to the change of frequency and enhances the imaging quality. Our proposed SF-SIM is almost 14 times faster than traditional SIM methods when achieving similar results. Therefore, our method is significantly valuable for the development of microbiology and medicine.

NTIRE 2020 Challenge on Image Demoireing: Methods and ResultsShanxin Yuan, Radu Timofte, Ales Leonardis et al.
This paper reviews the Challenge on Image Demoireing that was part of the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement (NTIRE) workshop, held in conjunction with CVPR 2020. Demoireing is a difficult task of removing moire patterns from an image to reveal an underlying clean image. The challenge was divided into two tracks. Track 1 targeted the single image demoireing problem, which seeks to remove moire patterns from a single image. Track 2 focused on the burst demoireing problem, where a set of degraded moire images of the same scene were provided as input, with the goal of producing a single demoired image as output. The methods were ranked in terms of their fidelity, measured using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) between the ground truth clean images and the restored images produced by the participants' methods. The tracks had 142 and 99 registered participants, respectively, with a total of 14 and 6 submissions in the final testing stage. The entries span the current state-of-the-art in image and burst image demoireing problems.

This paper reviews the first-ever image demoireing challenge that was part of the Advances in Image Manipulation (AIM) workshop, held in conjunction with ICCV 2019. This paper describes the challenge, and focuses on the proposed solutions and their results. Demoireing is a difficult task of removing moire patterns from an image to reveal an underlying clean image. A new dataset, called LCDMoire was created for this challenge, and consists of 10,200 synthetically generated image pairs (moire and clean ground truth). The challenge was divided into 2 tracks. Track 1 targeted fidelity, measuring the ability of demoire methods to obtain a moire-free image compared with the ground truth, while Track 2 examined the perceptual quality of demoire methods. The tracks had 60 and 39 registered participants, respectively. A total of eight teams competed in the final testing phase. The entries span the current the state-of-the-art in the image demoireing problem.

Multi-scale Dynamic Feature Encoding Network for Image DemoireingXi Cheng, Zhenyong Fu, Jian Yang
The prevalence of digital sensors, such as digital cameras and mobile phones, simplifies the acquisition of photos. Digital sensors, however, suffer from producing Moire when photographing objects having complex textures, which deteriorates the quality of photos. Moire spreads across various frequency bands of images and is a dynamic texture with varying colors and shapes, which pose two main challenges in demoireing---an important task in image restoration. In this paper, towards addressing the first challenge, we design a multi-scale network to process images at different spatial resolutions, obtaining features in different frequency bands, and thus our method can jointly remove moire in different frequency bands. Towards solving the second challenge, we propose a dynamic feature encoding module (DFE), embedded in each scale, for dynamic texture. Moire pattern can be eliminated more effectively via DFE.Our proposed method, termed Multi-scale convolutional network with Dynamic feature encoding for image DeMoireing (MDDM), can outperform the state of the arts in fidelity as well as perceptual on benchmarks.

Triple Attention Mixed Link Network for Single Image Super ResolutionXi Cheng, Xiang Li, Jian Yang
Single image super resolution is of great importance as a low-level computer vision task. Recent approaches with deep convolutional neural networks have achieved im-pressive performance. However, existing architectures have limitations due to the less sophisticated structure along with less strong representational power. In this work, to significantly enhance the feature representation, we proposed Triple Attention mixed link Network (TAN) which consists of 1) three different aspects (i.e., kernel, spatial and channel) of attention mechanisms and 2) fu-sion of both powerful residual and dense connections (i.e., mixed link). Specifically, the network with multi kernel learns multi hierarchical representations under different receptive fields. The output features are recalibrated by the effective kernel and channel attentions and feed into next layer partly residual and partly dense, which filters the information and enable the network to learn more powerful representations. The features finally pass through the spatial attention in the reconstruction network which generates a fusion of local and global information, let the network restore more details and improves the quality of reconstructed images. Thanks to the diverse feature recalibrations and the advanced information flow topology, our proposed model is strong enough to per-form against the state-of-the-art methods on the bench-mark evaluations.

SESR: Single Image Super Resolution with Recursive Squeeze and Excitation NetworksXi Cheng, Xiang Li, Ying Tai et al.
Single image super resolution is a very important computer vision task, with a wide range of applications. In recent years, the depth of the super-resolution model has been constantly increasing, but with a small increase in performance, it has brought a huge amount of computation and memory consumption. In this work, in order to make the super resolution models more effective, we proposed a novel single image super resolution method via recursive squeeze and excitation networks (SESR). By introducing the squeeze and excitation module, our SESR can model the interdependencies and relationships between channels and that makes our model more efficiency. In addition, the recursive structure and progressive reconstruction method in our model minimized the layers and parameters and enabled SESR to simultaneously train multi-scale super resolution in a single model. After evaluating on four benchmark test sets, our model is proved to be above the state-of-the-art methods in terms of speed and accuracy.
