Interactive Gadolinium-Free MRI Synthesis: A Transformer with Localization Prompt Learning

Linhao Li, Changhui Su, Yu Guo et al.

Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) is crucial for tumor detection and diagnosis, but the use of gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) in clinical settings raises safety concerns due to potential health risks. To circumvent these issues while preserving diagnostic accuracy, we propose a novel Transformer with Localization Prompts (TLP) framework for synthesizing CE-MRI from non-contrast MR images. Our architecture introduces three key innovations: a hierarchical backbone that uses efficient Transformer to process multi-scale features; a multi-stage fusion system consisting of Local and Global Fusion modules that hierarchically integrate complementary information via spatial attention operations and cross-attention mechanisms, respectively; and a Fuzzy Prompt Generation (FPG) module that enhances the TLP model's generalization by emulating radiologists' manual annotation through stochastic feature perturbation. The framework uniquely enables interactive clinical integration by allowing radiologists to input diagnostic prompts during inference, synergizing artificial intelligence with medical expertise. This research establishes a new paradigm for contrast-free MRI synthesis while addressing critical clinical needs for safer diagnostic procedures. Stereo CenterNet based 3D Object Detection for Autonomous Driving

Yuguang Shi, Yu Guo, Zhenqiang Mi et al.

Recently, three-dimensional (3D) detection based on stereo images has progressed remarkably; however, most advanced methods adopt anchor-based two-dimensional (2D) detection or depth estimation to address this problem. Nevertheless, high computational cost inhibits these methods from achieving real-time performance. In this study, we propose a 3D object detection method, Stereo CenterNet (SC), using geometric information in stereo imagery. SC predicts the four semantic key points of the 3D bounding box of the object in space and utilizes 2D left and right boxes, 3D dimension, orientation, and key points to restore the bounding box of the object in the 3D space. Subsequently, we adopt an improved photometric alignment module to further optimize the position of the 3D bounding box. Experiments conducted on the KITTI dataset indicate that the proposed SC exhibits the best speed-accuracy trade-off among advanced methods without using extra data.

AdaCompress: Adaptive Compression for Online Computer Vision Services

Hongshan Li, Yu Guo, Zhi Wang et al.

With the growth of computer vision based applications and services, an explosive amount of images have been uploaded to cloud servers which host such computer vision algorithms, usually in the form of deep learning models. JPEG has been used as the {\em de facto} compression and encapsulation method before one uploads the images, due to its wide adaptation. However, standard JPEG configuration does not always perform well for compressing images that are to be processed by a deep learning model, e.g., the standard quality level of JPEG leads to 50\% of size overhead (compared with the best quality level selection) on ImageNet under the same inference accuracy in popular computer vision models including InceptionNet, ResNet, etc. Knowing this, designing a better JPEG configuration for online computer vision services is still extremely challenging: 1) Cloud-based computer vision models are usually a black box to end-users; thus it is difficult to design JPEG configuration without knowing their model structures. 2) JPEG configuration has to change when different users use it. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning based JPEG configuration framework. In particular, we design an agent that adaptively chooses the compression level according to the input image's features and backend deep learning models. Then we train the agent in a reinforcement learning way to adapt it for different deep learning cloud services that act as the {\em interactive training environment} and feeding a reward with comprehensive consideration of accuracy and data size. In our real-world evaluation on Amazon Rekognition, Face++ and Baidu Vision, our approach can reduce the size of images by 1/2 -- 1/3 while the overall classification accuracy only decreases slightly.

Partial Computing Offloading Assisted Cloud Point Registration in Multi-robot SLAM

Biwei Li, Zhenqiang Mi, Yu Guo et al.

Multi-robot visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system is normally consisted of multiple mobile robots equipped with camera and/or other visual sensors. The networked robots work independently or cooperatively in an unknown scene in order to solve autonomous localization and mapping problem. One of the most critical issues in Multi-robot visual SLAM is the intensive computation that is normally required yet overwhelming for inexpensive mobile robots with limited on-board resources. To address this problem, a novel task offloading strategy and dense point cloud map construction method is proposed in this paper. First, we develop a novel strategy to remotely offload computation-intensive tasks to cloud center, so that the tasks that could not originally be achieved locally on the resource-limited robot systems become possible. Second, a modified iterative closest point algorithm (ICP), named fitness score hierarchical ICP algorithm (FS-HICP), is developed to accelerate point cloud registration. The correctness, efficiency, and scalability of the proposed strategy are evaluated with both theoretical analysis and experimental simulations. The results show that the proposed method can effectively reduce the energy consumption while increase the computation capability and speed of the multi-robot visual SLAM system, especially in indoor environment.

Boundary Learning by Using Weighted Propagation in Convolution Network

Wei Liu, Jiahao Chen, Chuni Liu et al.

In material science, image segmentation is of great significance for quantitative analysis of microstructures. Here, we propose a novel Weighted Propagation Convolution Neural Network based on U-Net (WPU-Net) to detect boundary in poly-crystalline microscopic images. We introduce spatial consistency into network to eliminate the defects in raw microscopic image. And we customize adaptive boundary weight for each pixel in each grain, so that it leads the network to preserve grain's geometric and topological characteristics. Moreover, we provide our dataset with the goal of advancing the development of image processing in materials science. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves promising performance in both of objective and subjective assessment. In boundary detection task, it reduces the error rate by 7\%, which outperforms state-of-the-art methods by a large margin.
