Bioimpedance a Diagnostic Tool for Tobacco Induced Oral Lesions: a Mixed Model cross-sectional studyVaibhav Gupta, Poonam Goel, Usha Agrawal et al.
Introduction: Electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has recently developed as a novel diagnostic device for screening and evaluating cervical dysplasia, prostate cancer, breast cancer and basal cell carcinoma. The current study aimed to validate and evaluate bioimpedance as a diagnostic tool for tobacco-induced oral lesions. Methodology: The study comprised 50 OSCC and OPMD tissue specimens for in-vitro study and 320 subjects for in vivo study. Bioimpedance device prepared and calibrated. EIS measurements were done for the habit and control groups and were compared. Results: The impedance value in the control group was significantly higher compared to the OPMD and OSCC groups. Diagnosis based on BIS measurements has a sensitivity of 95.9% and a specificity of 86.7%. Conclusion: Bioimpedance device can help in decision-making for differentiating OPMD and OSCC cases and their management, especially in primary healthcare settings. A Proposed Paradigm for Imputing Missing Multi-Sensor Data in the Healthcare DomainVaibhav Gupta, Florian Grensing, Beyza Cinar et al.
Chronic diseases such as diabetes pose significant management challenges, particularly due to the risk of complications like hypoglycemia, which require timely detection and intervention. Continuous health monitoring through wearable sensors offers a promising solution for early prediction of glycemic events. However, effective use of multisensor data is hindered by issues such as signal noise and frequent missing values. This study examines the limitations of existing datasets and emphasizes the temporal characteristics of key features relevant to hypoglycemia prediction. A comprehensive analysis of imputation techniques is conducted, focusing on those employed in state-of-the-art studies. Furthermore, imputation methods derived from machine learning and deep learning applications in other healthcare contexts are evaluated for their potential to address longer gaps in time-series data. Based on this analysis, a systematic paradigm is proposed, wherein imputation strategies are tailored to the nature of specific features and the duration of missing intervals. The review concludes by emphasizing the importance of investigating the temporal dynamics of individual features and the implementation of multiple, feature-specific imputation techniques to effectively address heterogeneous temporal patterns inherent in the data.

Data-Driven Optimal Distributed Controller Synthesis via Spatial RegretVaibhav Gupta, Daniele Martinelli, Giancarlo Ferrari-Trecate et al.
In this paper, we present a novel method for synthesising an optimal distributed spatial regret controller using experimentally obtained frequency-response data. Spatial regret provides a measure of the performance gap between a structured distributed controller and an oracle with enhanced communication topology. We relax assumptions on the communication topology, allowing the oracle to adopt any enhanced structure. While this generalisation requires an iterative solution in place of a single convex program, we provide a tractable algorithm that synthesises optimal controllers from frequency-response data while preserving stability and the desired communication structure. Through numerical examples, we illustrate the better performance of the spatial regret controller compared to classical H2/Hinf designs, underscoring the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Controller Design for Structured State-space Models via Contraction TheoryMuhammad Zakwan, Vaibhav Gupta, Alireza Karimi et al.
This paper presents an indirect data-driven output feedback controller synthesis for nonlinear systems, leveraging Structured State-space Models (SSMs) as surrogate models. SSMs have emerged as a compelling alternative in modelling time-series data and dynamical systems. They can capture long-term dependencies while maintaining linear computational complexity with respect to the sequence length, in comparison to the quadratic complexity of Transformer-based architectures. The contributions of this work are threefold. We provide the first analysis of controllability and observability of SSMs, which leads to scalable control design via Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) that leverage contraction theory. Moreover, a separation principle for SSMs is established, enabling the independent design of observers and state-feedback controllers while preserving the exponential stability of the closed-loop system. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is demonstrated through a numerical example, showcasing nonlinear system identification and the synthesis of an output feedback controller.

Evaluating Imputation Techniques for Short-Term Gaps in Heart Rate DataVaibhav Gupta, Maria Maleshkova
Recent advances in wearable technology have enabled the continuous monitoring of vital physiological signals, essential for predictive modeling and early detection of extreme physiological events. Among these physiological signals, heart rate (HR) plays a central role, as it is widely used in monitoring and managing cardiovascular conditions and detecting extreme physiological events such as hypoglycemia. However, data from wearable devices often suffer from missing values. To address this issue, recent studies have employed various imputation techniques. Traditionally, the effectiveness of these methods has been evaluated using predictive accuracy metrics such as RMSE, MAPE, and MAE, which assess numerical proximity to the original data. While informative, these metrics fail to capture the complex statistical structure inherent in physiological signals. This study bridges this gap by presenting a comprehensive evaluation of four statistical imputation methods, linear interpolation, K Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Piecewise Cubic Hermite Interpolating Polynomial (PCHIP), and B splines, for short term HR data gaps. We assess their performance using both predictive accuracy metrics and statistical distance measures, including the Cohen Distance Test (CDT) and Jensen Shannon Distance (JS Distance), applied to HR data from the D1NAMO dataset and the BIG IDEAs Lab Glycemic Variability and Wearable Device dataset. The analysis reveals limitations in existing imputation approaches and the absence of a robust framework for evaluating imputation quality in physiological signals. Finally, this study proposes a foundational framework to develop a composite evaluation metric to assess imputation performance.

Bootstrapped Mixed Rewards for RL Post-Training: Injecting Canonical Action OrderPrakhar Gupta, Vaibhav Gupta
Post-training with reinforcement learning (RL) typically optimizes a single scalar objective and ignores structure in how solutions are produced. We ask whether a scalar hint toward a canonical solver ordering, used only during RL post-training, improves performance even when fine-tuned on randomized solution sequences. On Sudoku, we train a Transformer with standard fine-tuning on randomized solving orders, then post-train it with Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) with two rewards: cell accuracy and an ordering reward that increases when the model's emission order aligns with the solver order. To compare signals cleanly, we combine them via fixed mixtures and use a simple bootstrapped scaling to equalize component magnitudes at initialization. Mixed rewards generally outperform cell-only optimization--the best mixture yields substantially higher test accuracy than the fine-tuned-only model trained on random-order and approaches the fine-tuned-only model trained on solver-order sequences in accuracy. These results suggest that coarse ordering signals can steer RL post-training toward solver-order trajectories without modifying supervised data or architecture.

Breaking Free: Decoupling Forced Systems with Laplace Neural NetworksBernd Zimmering, Cecília Coelho, Vaibhav Gupta et al.
Modelling forced dynamical systems - where an external input drives the system state - is critical across diverse domains such as engineering, finance, and the natural sciences. In this work, we propose Laplace-Net, a decoupled, solver-free neural framework for learning forced and delay-aware systems. It leverages a Laplace transform-based approach to decompose internal dynamics, external inputs, and initial values into established theoretical concepts, enhancing interpretability. Laplace-Net promotes transferability since the system can be rapidly re-trained or fine-tuned for new forcing signals, providing flexibility in applications ranging from controller adaptation to long-horizon forecasting. Experimental results on eight benchmark datasets - including linear, non-linear, and delayed systems - demonstrate the method's improved accuracy and robustness compared to state-of-the-art approaches, particularly in handling complex and previously unseen inputs.
