Efficient Sequence Transduction by Jointly Predicting Tokens and Durations

This paper introduces a novel Token-and-Duration Transducer (TDT) architecture for sequence-to-sequence tasks. TDT extends conventional RNN-Transducer architectures by jointly predicting both a token and its duration, i.e. the number of input frames covered by the emitted token. This is achieved by using a joint network with two outputs which are independently normalized to generate distributions over tokens and durations. During inference, TDT models can skip input frames guided by the predicted duration output, which makes them significantly faster than conventional Transducers which process the encoder output frame by frame. TDT models achieve both better accuracy and significantly faster inference than conventional Transducers on different sequence transduction tasks. TDT models for Speech Recognition achieve better accuracy and up to 2.82X faster inference than conventional Transducers. TDT models for Speech Translation achieve an absolute gain of over 1 BLEU on the MUST-C test compared with conventional Transducers, and its inference is 2.27X faster. In Speech Intent Classification and Slot Filling tasks, TDT models improve the intent accuracy by up to over 1% (absolute) over conventional Transducers, while running up to 1.28X faster. Our implementation of the TDT model will be open-sourced with the NeMo (https://github.com/NVIDIA/NeMo) toolkit.

VoiceTextBlender: Augmenting Large Language Models with Speech Capabilities via Single-Stage Joint Speech-Text Supervised Fine-Tuning

Recent studies have augmented large language models (LLMs) with speech capabilities, leading to the development of speech language models (SpeechLMs). Earlier SpeechLMs focused on single-turn speech-based question answering (QA), where user input comprised a speech context and a text question. More recent studies have extended this to multi-turn conversations, though they often require complex, multi-stage supervised fine-tuning (SFT) with diverse data. Another critical challenge with SpeechLMs is catastrophic forgetting, where models optimized for speech tasks suffer significant degradation in text-only performance. To mitigate these issues, we propose a novel single-stage joint speech-text SFT approach on the low-rank adaptation (LoRA) of the LLM backbone. Our joint SFT combines text-only SFT data with three types of speech-related data: speech recognition and translation, speech-based QA, and mixed-modal SFT. Compared to previous SpeechLMs with 7B or 13B parameters, our 3B model demonstrates superior performance across various speech benchmarks while preserving the original capabilities on text-only tasks. Furthermore, our model shows emergent abilities of effectively handling previously unseen prompts and tasks, including multi-turn, mixed-modal inputs.

SALM: Speech-augmented Language Model with In-context Learning for Speech Recognition and Translation

We present a novel Speech Augmented Language Model (SALM) with {\em multitask} and {\em in-context} learning capabilities. SALM comprises a frozen text LLM, a audio encoder, a modality adapter module, and LoRA layers to accommodate speech input and associated task instructions. The unified SALM not only achieves performance on par with task-specific Conformer baselines for Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Speech Translation (AST), but also exhibits zero-shot in-context learning capabilities, demonstrated through keyword-boosting task for ASR and AST. Moreover, {\em speech supervised in-context training} is proposed to bridge the gap between LLM training and downstream speech tasks, which further boosts the in-context learning ability of speech-to-text models. Proposed model is open-sourced via NeMo toolkit.

MetaFi: Device-Free Pose Estimation via Commodity WiFi for Metaverse Avatar Simulation

Avatar refers to a representative of a physical user in the virtual world that can engage in different activities and interact with other objects in metaverse. Simulating the avatar requires accurate human pose estimation. Though camera-based solutions yield remarkable performance, they encounter the privacy issue and degraded performance caused by varying illumination, especially in smart home. In this paper, we propose a WiFi-based IoT-enabled human pose estimation scheme for metaverse avatar simulation, namely MetaFi. Specifically, a deep neural network is designed with customized convolutional layers and residual blocks to map the channel state information to human pose landmarks. It is enforced to learn the annotations from the accurate computer vision model, thus achieving cross-modal supervision. WiFi is ubiquitous and robust to illumination, making it a feasible solution for avatar applications in smart home. The experiments are conducted in the real world, and the results show that the MetaFi achieves very high performance with a PCK@50 of 95.23%.

ME-Net: Multi-Encoder Net Framework for Brain Tumor Segmentation

Glioma is the most common and aggressive brain tumor. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a vital role to evaluate tumors for the arrangement of tumor surgery and the treatment of subsequent procedures. However, the manual segmentation of the MRI image is strenuous, which limits its clinical application. With the development of deep learning, a large number of automatic segmentation methods have been developed, but most of them stay in 2D images, which leads to subpar performance. Moreover, the serious voxel imbalance between the brain tumor and the background as well as the different sizes and locations of the brain tumor makes the segmentation of 3D images a challenging problem. Aiming at segmenting 3D MRI, we propose a model for brain tumor segmentation with multiple encoders. The structure contains four encoders and one decoder. The four encoders correspond to the four modalities of the MRI image, perform one-to-one feature extraction, and then merge the feature maps of the four modalities into the decoder. This method reduces the difficulty of feature extraction and greatly improves model performance. We also introduced a new loss function named "Categorical Dice", and set different weights for different segmented regions at the same time, which solved the problem of voxel imbalance. We evaluated our approach using the online BraTS 2020 Challenge verification. Our proposed method can achieve promising results in the validation set compared to the state-of-the-art approaches with Dice scores of 0.70249, 0.88267, and 0.73864 for the intact tumor, tumor core, and enhanced tumor, respectively.

AdaPose: Towards Cross-Site Device-Free Human Pose Estimation with Commodity WiFi

WiFi-based pose estimation is a technology with great potential for the development of smart homes and metaverse avatar generation. However, current WiFi-based pose estimation methods are predominantly evaluated under controlled laboratory conditions with sophisticated vision models to acquire accurately labeled data. Furthermore, WiFi CSI is highly sensitive to environmental variables, and direct application of a pre-trained model to a new environment may yield suboptimal results due to domain shift. In this paper, we proposes a domain adaptation algorithm, AdaPose, designed specifically for weakly-supervised WiFi-based pose estimation. The proposed method aims to identify consistent human poses that are highly resistant to environmental dynamics. To achieve this goal, we introduce a Mapping Consistency Loss that aligns the domain discrepancy of source and target domains based on inner consistency between input and output at the mapping level. We conduct extensive experiments on domain adaptation in two different scenes using our self-collected pose estimation dataset containing WiFi CSI frames. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of AdaPose in eliminating domain shift, thereby facilitating the widespread application of WiFi-based pose estimation in smart cities.

Leveraging Pretrained ASR Encoders for Effective and Efficient End-to-End Speech Intent Classification and Slot Filling

We study speech intent classification and slot filling (SICSF) by proposing to use an encoder pretrained on speech recognition (ASR) to initialize an end-to-end (E2E) Conformer-Transformer model, which achieves the new state-of-the-art results on the SLURP dataset, with 90.14% intent accuracy and 82.27% SLURP-F1. We compare our model with encoders pretrained on self-supervised learning (SSL), and show that ASR pretraining is much more effective than SSL for SICSF. To explore parameter efficiency, we freeze the encoder and add Adapter modules, and show that parameter efficiency is only achievable with an ASR-pretrained encoder, while the SSL encoder needs full finetuning to achieve comparable results. In addition, we provide an in-depth comparison on end-to-end models versus cascading models (ASR+NLU), and show that E2E models are better than cascaded models unless an oracle ASR model is provided. Last but not least, our model is the first E2E model that achieves the same performance as cascading models with oracle ASR. Code, checkpoints and configs are available.

A Trustworthy AIoT-enabled Localization System via Federated Learning and Blockchain

There is a significant demand for indoor localization technology in smart buildings, and the most promising solution in this field is using RF sensors and fingerprinting-based methods that employ machine learning models trained on crowd-sourced user data gathered from IoT devices. However, this raises security and privacy issues in practice. Some researchers propose to use federated learning to partially overcome privacy problems, but there still remain security concerns, e.g., single-point failure and malicious attacks. In this paper, we propose a framework named DFLoc to achieve precise 3D localization tasks while considering the following two security concerns. Particularly, we design a specialized blockchain to decentralize the framework by distributing the tasks such as model distribution and aggregation which are handled by a central server to all clients in most previous works, to address the issue of the single-point failure for a reliable and accurate indoor localization system. Moreover, we introduce an updated model verification mechanism within the blockchain to alleviate the concern of malicious node attacks. Experimental results substantiate the framework's capacity to deliver accurate 3D location predictions and its superior resistance to the impacts of single-point failure and malicious attacks when compared to conventional centralized federated learning systems.

Sortformer: A Novel Approach for Permutation-Resolved Speaker Supervision in Speech-to-Text Systems

Sortformer is an encoder-based speaker diarization model designed for supervising speaker tagging in speech-to-text models. Instead of relying solely on permutation invariant loss (PIL), Sortformer introduces Sort Loss to resolve the permutation problem, either independently or in tandem with PIL. In addition, we propose a streamlined multi-speaker speech-to-text architecture that leverages Sortformer for speaker supervision, embedding speaker labels into the encoder using sinusoidal kernel functions. This design addresses the speaker permutation problem through sorted objectives, effectively bridging timestamps and tokens to supervise speaker labels in the output transcriptions. Experiments demonstrate that Sort Loss can boost speaker diarization performance, and incorporating the speaker supervision from Sortformer improves multi-speaker transcription accuracy. We anticipate that the proposed Sortformer and multi-speaker architecture will enable the seamless integration of speaker tagging capabilities into foundational speech-to-text systems and multimodal large language models (LLMs), offering an easily adoptable and user-friendly mechanism to enhance their versatility and performance in speaker-aware tasks. D2GV: Deformable 2D Gaussian Splatting for Video Representation in 400FPS

Implicit Neural Representations (INRs) have emerged as a powerful approach for video representation, offering versatility across tasks such as compression and inpainting. However, their implicit formulation limits both interpretability and efficacy, undermining their practicality as a comprehensive solution. We propose a novel video representation based on deformable 2D Gaussian splatting, dubbed D2GV, which aims to achieve three key objectives: 1) improved efficiency while delivering superior quality; 2) enhanced scalability and interpretability; and 3) increased friendliness for downstream tasks. Specifically, we initially divide the video sequence into fixed-length Groups of Pictures (GoP) to allow parallel training and linear scalability with video length. For each GoP, D2GV represents video frames by applying differentiable rasterization to 2D Gaussians, which are deformed from a canonical space into their corresponding timestamps. Notably, leveraging efficient CUDA-based rasterization, D2GV converges fast and decodes at speeds exceeding 400 FPS, while delivering quality that matches or surpasses state-of-the-art INRs. Moreover, we incorporate a learnable pruning and quantization strategy to streamline D2GV into a more compact representation. We demonstrate D2GV's versatility in tasks including video interpolation, inpainting and denoising, underscoring its potential as a promising solution for video representation. Granary: Speech Recognition and Translation Dataset in 25 European Languages

Multi-task and multilingual approaches benefit large models, yet speech processing for low-resource languages remains underexplored due to data scarcity. To address this, we present Granary, a large-scale collection of speech datasets for recognition and translation across 25 European languages. This is the first open-source effort at this scale for both transcription and translation. We enhance data quality using a pseudo-labeling pipeline with segmentation, two-pass inference, hallucination filtering, and punctuation restoration. We further generate translation pairs from pseudo-labeled transcriptions using EuroLLM, followed by a data filtration pipeline. Designed for efficiency, our pipeline processes vast amount of data within hours. We assess models trained on processed data by comparing their performance on previously curated datasets for both high- and low-resource languages. ADC-GS: Anchor-Driven Deformable and Compressed Gaussian Splatting for Dynamic Scene Reconstruction

Existing 4D Gaussian Splatting methods rely on per-Gaussian deformation from a canonical space to target frames, which overlooks redundancy among adjacent Gaussian primitives and results in suboptimal performance. To address this limitation, we propose Anchor-Driven Deformable and Compressed Gaussian Splatting (ADC-GS), a compact and efficient representation for dynamic scene reconstruction. Specifically, ADC-GS organizes Gaussian primitives into an anchor-based structure within the canonical space, enhanced by a temporal significance-based anchor refinement strategy. To reduce deformation redundancy, ADC-GS introduces a hierarchical coarse-to-fine pipeline that captures motions at varying granularities. Moreover, a rate-distortion optimization is adopted to achieve an optimal balance between bitrate consumption and representation fidelity. Experimental results demonstrate that ADC-GS outperforms the per-Gaussian deformation approaches in rendering speed by 300%-800% while achieving state-of-the-art storage efficiency without compromising rendering quality. AccLock: Unlocking Identity with Heartbeat Using In-Ear Accelerometers

The widespread use of earphones has enabled various sensing applications, including activity recognition, health monitoring, and context-aware computing. Among these, earphone-based user authentication has become a key technique by leveraging unique biometric features. However, existing earphone-based authentication systems face key limitations: they either require explicit user interaction or active speaker output, or suffer from poor accessibility and vulnerability to environmental noise, which hinders large-scale deployment. In this paper, we propose a passive authentication system, called AccLock, which leverages distinctive features extracted from in-ear BCG signals to enable secure and unobtrusive user verification. Our system offers several advantages over previous systems, including zero-involvement for both the device and the user, ubiquitous, and resilient to environmental noise. To realize this, we first design a two-stage denoising scheme to suppress both inherent and sporadic interference. To extract user-specific features, we then propose a disentanglement-based deep learning model, HIDNet, which explicitly separates user-specific features from shared nuisance components. Lastly, we develop a scalable authentication framework based on a Siamese network that eliminates the need for per-user classifier training. We conduct extensive experiments with 33 participants, achieving an average FAR of 3.13% and FRR of 2.99%, which demonstrates the practical feasibility of AccLock.

HybridINR-PCGC: Hybrid Lossless Point Cloud Geometry Compression Bridging Pretrained Model and Implicit Neural Representation

Learning-based point cloud compression presents superior performance to handcrafted codecs. However, pretrained-based methods, which are based on end-to-end training and expected to generalize to all the potential samples, suffer from training data dependency. Implicit neural representation (INR) based methods are distribution-agnostic and more robust, but they require time-consuming online training and suffer from the bitstream overhead from the overfitted model. To address these limitations, we propose HybridINR-PCGC, a novel hybrid framework that bridges the pretrained model and INR. Our framework retains distribution-agnostic properties while leveraging a pretrained network to accelerate convergence and reduce model overhead, which consists of two parts: the Pretrained Prior Network (PPN) and the Distribution Agnostic Refiner (DAR). We leverage the PPN, designed for fast inference and stable performance, to generate a robust prior for accelerating the DAR's convergence. The DAR is decomposed into a base layer and an enhancement layer, and only the enhancement layer needed to be packed into the bitstream. Finally, we propose a supervised model compression module to further supervise and minimize the bitrate of the enhancement layer parameters. Based on experiment results, HybridINR-PCGC achieves a significantly improved compression rate and encoding efficiency. Specifically, our method achieves a Bpp reduction of approximately 20.43% compared to G-PCC on 8iVFB. In the challenging out-of-distribution scenario Cat1B, our method achieves a Bpp reduction of approximately 57.85% compared to UniPCGC. And our method exhibits a superior time-rate trade-off, achieving an average Bpp reduction of 15.193% relative to the LINR-PCGC on 8iVFB.

BESTOW: Efficient and Streamable Speech Language Model with the Best of Two Worlds in GPT and T5

Incorporating speech understanding capabilities into pretrained large-language models has become a vital research direction (SpeechLLM). The previous architectures can be categorized as: i) GPT-style, prepend speech prompts to the text prompts as a sequence of LLM inputs like a decoder-only model; ii) T5-style, introduce speech cross-attention to each layer of the pretrained LLMs. We propose BESTOW architecture to bring the BESt features from TwO Worlds into a single model that is highly efficient and has strong multitask capabilities. Moreover, there is no clear streaming solution for either style, especially considering the solution should generalize to speech multitask. We reformulate streamable SpeechLLM as a read-write policy problem and unifies the offline and streaming research with BESTOW architecture. Hence we demonstrate the first open-source SpeechLLM solution that enables Streaming and Multitask at scale (beyond ASR) at the same time. This streamable solution achieves very strong performance on a wide range of speech tasks (ASR, AST, SQA, unseen DynamicSuperb). It is end-to-end optimizable, with lower training/inference cost, and demonstrates LLM knowledge transferability to speech.

Less is More: Accurate Speech Recognition & Translation without Web-Scale Data

Recent advances in speech recognition and translation rely on hundreds of thousands of hours of Internet speech data. We argue that state-of-the art accuracy can be reached without relying on web-scale data. Canary - multilingual ASR and speech translation model, outperforms current state-of-the-art models - Whisper, OWSM, and Seamless-M4T on English, French, Spanish, and German languages, while being trained on an order of magnitude less data than these models. Three key factors enables such data-efficient model: (1) a FastConformer-based attention encoder-decoder architecture (2) training on synthetic data generated with machine translation and (3) advanced training techniques: data-balancing, dynamic data blending, dynamic bucketing and noise-robust fine-tuning. The model, weights, and training code will be open-sourced.

SUTD-TrafficQA: A Question Answering Benchmark and an Efficient Network for Video Reasoning over Traffic Events

Traffic event cognition and reasoning in videos is an important task that has a wide range of applications in intelligent transportation, assisted driving, and autonomous vehicles. In this paper, we create a novel dataset, SUTD-TrafficQA (Traffic Question Answering), which takes the form of video QA based on the collected 10,080 in-the-wild videos and annotated 62,535 QA pairs, for benchmarking the cognitive capability of causal inference and event understanding models in complex traffic scenarios. Specifically, we propose 6 challenging reasoning tasks corresponding to various traffic scenarios, so as to evaluate the reasoning capability over different kinds of complex yet practical traffic events. Moreover, we propose Eclipse, a novel Efficient glimpse network via dynamic inference, in order to achieve computation-efficient and reliable video reasoning. Budget-Feasible Mechanisms for Submodular Welfare Maximization in Procurement Auctions

Budget-feasible procurement auctions play a pivotal role in various AI-driven marketplaces, such as data acquisition and crowdsourcing, where a buyer with a limited budget seeks to procure services from strategic sellers with private costs. While numerous budget-feasible mechanisms have been proposed for the classic objective of maximizing the buyer's valuation, the more challenging and economically significant objective of social welfare maximization has only recently been studied, and existing approaches still sacrifice budget feasibility, thereby limiting their practical applicability. In this paper, we bridge this gap by proposing BFM-SWM, the first budget-feasible mechanism with provable approximation guarantees for submodular welfare maximization in procurement auctions. Our mechanism satisfies standard economic properties, including truthfulness, individual rationality, and non-negative auctioneer surplus. As a by-product, we develop BFM-VM, a variant tailored for valuation maximization, which achieves a deterministic approximation ratio of $1/(12+4\sqrt{3})$ for general submodular functions, substantially improving upon the best-known deterministic ratio of $1/64$ established by [Balkanski et al., SODA 2022], while reducing the running time from $\mathcal{O}(n^2\log n)$ to $\mathcal{O}(n\log n)$. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our mechanisms.

UFO2: The Desktop AgentOS

Recent Computer-Using Agents (CUAs), powered by multimodal large language models (LLMs), offer a promising direction for automating complex desktop workflows through natural language. However, most existing CUAs remain conceptual prototypes, hindered by shallow OS integration, fragile screenshot-based interaction, and disruptive execution. We present UFO2, a multiagent AgentOS for Windows desktops that elevates CUAs into practical, system-level automation. UFO2 features a centralized HostAgent for task decomposition and coordination, alongside a collection of application-specialized AppAgent equipped with native APIs, domain-specific knowledge, and a unified GUI--API action layer. This architecture enables robust task execution while preserving modularity and extensibility. A hybrid control detection pipeline fuses Windows UI Automation (UIA) with vision-based parsing to support diverse interface styles. Runtime efficiency is further enhanced through speculative multi-action planning, reducing per-step LLM overhead. Finally, a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) interface enables automation within an isolated virtual desktop, allowing agents and users to operate concurrently without interference. We evaluate UFO2 across over 20 real-world Windows applications, demonstrating substantial improvements in robustness and execution accuracy over prior CUAs. Our results show that deep OS integration unlocks a scalable path toward reliable, user-aligned desktop automation.

A Hierarchical Compression Technique for 3D Gaussian Splatting Compression

3D Gaussian Splatting (GS) demonstrates excellent rendering quality and generation speed in novel view synthesis. However, substantial data size poses challenges for storage and transmission, making 3D GS compression an essential technology. Current 3D GS compression research primarily focuses on developing more compact scene representations, such as converting explicit 3D GS data into implicit forms. In contrast, compression of the GS data itself has hardly been explored. To address this gap, we propose a Hierarchical GS Compression (HGSC) technique. Initially, we prune unimportant Gaussians based on importance scores derived from both global and local significance, effectively reducing redundancy while maintaining visual quality. An Octree structure is used to compress 3D positions. Based on the 3D GS Octree, we implement a hierarchical attribute compression strategy by employing a KD-tree to partition the 3D GS into multiple blocks. We apply farthest point sampling to select anchor primitives within each block and others as non-anchor primitives with varying Levels of Details (LoDs). Anchor primitives serve as reference points for predicting non-anchor primitives across different LoDs to reduce spatial redundancy. For anchor primitives, we use the region adaptive hierarchical transform to achieve near-lossless compression of various attributes. For non-anchor primitives, each is predicted based on the k-nearest anchor primitives. To further minimize prediction errors, the reconstructed LoD and anchor primitives are combined to form new anchor primitives to predict the next LoD. Our method notably achieves superior compression quality and a significant data size reduction of over 4.5 times compared to the state-of-the-art compression method on small scenes datasets.

Semantic Alignment across Ancient Egyptian Language Stages via Normalization-Aware Multitask Learning

We study word-level semantic alignment across four historical stages of Ancient Egyptian. These stages differ in script and orthography, and parallel data are scarce. We jointly train a compact encoder-decoder model with a shared byte-level tokenizer on all four stages, combining masked language modeling (MLM), translation language modeling (TLM), sequence-to-sequence translation, and part-of-speech tagging under a task-aware loss with fixed weights and uncertainty-based scaling. To reduce surface divergence we add Latin transliteration and IPA reconstruction as auxiliary views. We integrate these views through KL-based consistency and through embedding-level fusion. We evaluate alignment quality using pairwise metrics, specifically ROC-AUC and triplet accuracy, on curated Egyptian-English and intra-Egyptian cognate datasets. Translation yields the strongest gains. IPA with KL consistency improves cross-branch alignment, while early fusion demonstrates limited efficacy. Although the overall alignment remains limited, the findings provide a reproducible baseline and practical guidance for modeling historical languages under real constraints. They also show how normalization and task design shape what counts as alignment in typologically distant settings.

Light4GS: Lightweight Compact 4D Gaussian Splatting Generation via Context Model

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as an efficient and high-fidelity paradigm for novel view synthesis. To adapt 3DGS for dynamic content, deformable 3DGS incorporates temporally deformable primitives with learnable latent embeddings to capture complex motions. Despite its impressive performance, the high-dimensional embeddings and vast number of primitives lead to substantial storage requirements. In this paper, we introduce a \textbf{Light}weight \textbf{4}D\textbf{GS} framework, called Light4GS, that employs significance pruning with a deep context model to provide a lightweight storage-efficient dynamic 3DGS representation. The proposed Light4GS is based on 4DGS that is a typical representation of deformable 3DGS. Specifically, our framework is built upon two core components: (1) a spatio-temporal significance pruning strategy that eliminates over 64\% of the deformable primitives, followed by an entropy-constrained spherical harmonics compression applied to the remainder; and (2) a deep context model that integrates intra- and inter-prediction with hyperprior into a coarse-to-fine context structure to enable efficient multiscale latent embedding compression. Our approach achieves over 120x compression and increases rendering FPS up to 20\% compared to the baseline 4DGS, and also superior to frame-wise state-of-the-art 3DGS compression methods, revealing the effectiveness of our Light4GS in terms of both intra- and inter-prediction methods without sacrificing rendering quality.

Word Level Timestamp Generation for Automatic Speech Recognition and Translation

We introduce a data-driven approach for enabling word-level timestamp prediction in the Canary model. Accurate timestamp information is crucial for a variety of downstream tasks such as speech content retrieval and timed subtitles. While traditional hybrid systems and end-to-end (E2E) models may employ external modules for timestamp prediction, our approach eliminates the need for separate alignment mechanisms. By leveraging the NeMo Forced Aligner (NFA) as a teacher model, we generate word-level timestamps and train the Canary model to predict timestamps directly. We introduce a new <|timestamp|> token, enabling the Canary model to predict start and end timestamps for each word. Our method demonstrates precision and recall rates between 80% and 90%, with timestamp prediction errors ranging from 20 to 120 ms across four languages, with minimal WER degradation. Additionally, we extend our system to automatic speech translation (AST) tasks, achieving timestamp prediction errors around 200 milliseconds.

Recent Trends in Distant Conversational Speech Recognition: A Review of CHiME-7 and 8 DASR Challenges

The CHiME-7 and 8 distant speech recognition (DASR) challenges focus on multi-channel, generalizable, joint automatic speech recognition (ASR) and diarization of conversational speech. With participation from 9 teams submitting 32 diverse systems, these challenges have contributed to state-of-the-art research in the field. This paper outlines the challenges' design, evaluation metrics, datasets, and baseline systems while analyzing key trends from participant submissions. From this analysis it emerges that: 1) Most participants use end-to-end (e2e) ASR systems, whereas hybrid systems were prevalent in previous CHiME challenges. This transition is mainly due to the availability of robust large-scale pre-trained models, which lowers the data burden for e2e-ASR. 2) Despite recent advances in neural speech separation and enhancement (SSE), all teams still heavily rely on guided source separation, suggesting that current neural SSE techniques are still unable to reliably deal with complex scenarios and different recording setups. 3) All best systems employ diarization refinement via target-speaker diarization techniques. Accurate speaker counting in the first diarization pass is thus crucial to avoid compounding errors and CHiME-8 DASR participants especially focused on this part. 4) Downstream evaluation via meeting summarization can correlate weakly with transcription quality due to the remarkable effectiveness of large-language models in handling errors. On the NOTSOFAR-1 scenario, even systems with over 50% time-constrained minimum permutation WER can perform roughly on par with the most effective ones (around 11%). 5) Despite recent progress, accurately transcribing spontaneous speech in challenging acoustic environments remains difficult, even when using computationally intensive system ensembles.

IPENS:Interactive Unsupervised Framework for Rapid Plant Phenotyping Extraction via NeRF-SAM2 Fusion

Advanced plant phenotyping technologies play a crucial role in targeted trait improvement and accelerating intelligent breeding. Due to the species diversity of plants, existing methods heavily rely on large-scale high-precision manually annotated data. For self-occluded objects at the grain level, unsupervised methods often prove ineffective. This study proposes IPENS, an interactive unsupervised multi-target point cloud extraction method. The method utilizes radiance field information to lift 2D masks, which are segmented by SAM2 (Segment Anything Model 2), into 3D space for target point cloud extraction. A multi-target collaborative optimization strategy is designed to effectively resolve the single-interaction multi-target segmentation challenge. Experimental validation demonstrates that IPENS achieves a grain-level segmentation accuracy (mIoU) of 63.72% on a rice dataset, with strong phenotypic estimation capabilities: grain volume prediction yields R2 = 0.7697 (RMSE = 0.0025), leaf surface area R2 = 0.84 (RMSE = 18.93), and leaf length and width predictions achieve R2 = 0.97 and 0.87 (RMSE = 1.49 and 0.21). On a wheat dataset,IPENS further improves segmentation accuracy to 89.68% (mIoU), with equally outstanding phenotypic estimation performance: spike volume prediction achieves R2 = 0.9956 (RMSE = 0.0055), leaf surface area R2 = 1.00 (RMSE = 0.67), and leaf length and width predictions reach R2 = 0.99 and 0.92 (RMSE = 0.23 and 0.15). This method provides a non-invasive, high-quality phenotyping extraction solution for rice and wheat. Without requiring annotated data, it rapidly extracts grain-level point clouds within 3 minutes through simple single-round interactions on images for multiple targets, demonstrating significant potential to accelerate intelligent breeding efficiency.

WECAR: An End-Edge Collaborative Inference and Training Framework for WiFi-Based Continuous Human Activity Recognition

WiFi-based human activity recognition (HAR) holds significant promise for ubiquitous sensing in smart environments. A critical challenge lies in enabling systems to dynamically adapt to evolving scenarios, learning new activities without catastrophic forgetting of prior knowledge, while adhering to the stringent computational constraints of edge devices. Current approaches struggle to reconcile these requirements due to prohibitive storage demands for retaining historical data and inefficient parameter utilization. We propose WECAR, an end-edge collaborative inference and training framework for WiFi-based continuous HAR, which decouples computational workloads to overcome these limitations. In this framework, edge devices handle model training, lightweight optimization, and updates, while end devices perform efficient inference. WECAR introduces two key innovations, i.e., dynamic continual learning with parameter efficiency and hierarchical distillation for end deployment. For the former, we propose a transformer-based architecture enhanced by task-specific dynamic model expansion and stability-aware selective retraining. For the latter, we propose a dual-phase distillation mechanism that includes multi-head self-attention relation distillation and prefix relation distillation. We implement WECAR based on heterogeneous hardware using Jetson Nano as edge devices and the ESP32 as end devices, respectively. Our experiments across three public WiFi datasets reveal that WECAR not only outperforms several state-of-the-art methods in performance and parameter efficiency, but also achieves a substantial reduction in the model's parameter count post-optimization without sacrificing accuracy. This validates its practicality for resource-constrained environments.

Beyond Motion Imitation: Is Human Motion Data Alone Sufficient to Explain Gait Control and Biomechanics?

With the growing interest in motion imitation learning (IL) for human biomechanics and wearable robotics, this study investigates how additional foot-ground interaction measures, used as reward terms, affect human gait kinematics and kinetics estimation within a reinforcement learning-based IL framework. Results indicate that accurate reproduction of forward kinematics alone does not ensure biomechanically plausible joint kinetics. Adding foot-ground contacts and contact forces to the IL reward terms enables the prediction of joint moments in forward walking simulation, which are significantly closer to those computed by inverse dynamics. This finding highlights a fundamental limitation of motion-only IL approaches, which may prioritize kinematics matching over physical consistency. Incorporating kinetic constraints, particularly ground reaction force and center of pressure information, significantly enhances the realism of internal and external kinetics. These findings suggest that, when imitation learning is applied to human-related research domains such as biomechanics and wearable robot co-design, kinetics-based reward shaping is necessary to achieve physically consistent gait representations.

LRDUN: A Low-Rank Deep Unfolding Network for Efficient Spectral Compressive Imaging

Deep unfolding networks (DUNs) have achieved remarkable success and become the mainstream paradigm for spectral compressive imaging (SCI) reconstruction. Existing DUNs are derived from full-HSI imaging models, where each stage operates directly on the high-dimensional HSI, refining the entire data cube based on the single 2D coded measurement. However, this paradigm leads to computational redundancy and suffers from the ill-posed nature of mapping 2D residuals back to 3D space of HSI. In this paper, we propose two novel imaging models corresponding to the spectral basis and subspace image by explicitly integrating low-rank (LR) decomposition with the sensing model. Compared to recovering the full HSI, estimating these compact low-dimensional components significantly mitigates the ill-posedness. Building upon these novel models, we develop the Low-Rank Deep Unfolding Network (LRDUN), which jointly solves the two subproblems within an unfolded proximal gradient descent (PGD) framework. Furthermore, we introduce a Generalized Feature Unfolding Mechanism (GFUM) that decouples the physical rank in the data-fidelity term from the feature dimensionality in the prior module, enhancing the representational capacity and flexibility of the network. Extensive experiments on simulated and real datasets demonstrate that the proposed LRDUN achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) reconstruction quality with significantly reduced computational cost.

Sparse Reasoning is Enough: Biological-Inspired Framework for Video Anomaly Detection with Large Pre-trained Models

Video anomaly detection (VAD) plays a vital role in real-world applications such as security surveillance, autonomous driving, and industrial monitoring. Recent advances in large pre-trained models have opened new opportunities for training-free VAD by leveraging rich prior knowledge and general reasoning capabilities. However, existing studies typically rely on dense frame-level inference, incurring high computational costs and latency. This raises a fundamental question: Is dense reasoning truly necessary when using powerful pre-trained models in VAD systems? To answer this, we propose ReCoVAD, a novel framework inspired by the dual reflex and conscious pathways of the human nervous system, enabling selective frame processing to reduce redundant computation. ReCoVAD consists of two core pathways: (i) a Reflex pathway that uses a lightweight CLIP-based module to fuse visual features with prototype prompts and produce decision vectors, which query a dynamic memory of past frames and anomaly scores for fast response; and (ii) a Conscious pathway that employs a medium-scale vision-language model to generate textual event descriptions and refined anomaly scores for novel frames. It continuously updates the memory and prototype prompts, while an integrated large language model periodically reviews accumulated descriptions to identify unseen anomalies, correct errors, and refine prototypes. Extensive experiments show that ReCoVAD achieves state-of-the-art training-free performance while processing only 28.55\% and 16.04\% of the frames used by previous methods on the UCF-Crime and XD-Violence datasets, demonstrating that sparse reasoning is sufficient for effective large-model-based VAD.

LINR-PCGC: Lossless Implicit Neural Representations for Point Cloud Geometry Compression

Existing AI-based point cloud compression methods struggle with dependence on specific training data distributions, which limits their real-world deployment. Implicit Neural Representation (INR) methods solve the above problem by encoding overfitted network parameters to the bitstream, resulting in more distribution-agnostic results. However, due to the limitation of encoding time and decoder size, current INR based methods only consider lossy geometry compression. In this paper, we propose the first INR based lossless point cloud geometry compression method called Lossless Implicit Neural Representations for Point Cloud Geometry Compression (LINR-PCGC). To accelerate encoding speed, we design a group of point clouds level coding framework with an effective network initialization strategy, which can reduce around 60% encoding time. A lightweight coding network based on multiscale SparseConv, consisting of scale context extraction, child node prediction, and model compression modules, is proposed to realize fast inference and compact decoder size. Experimental results show that our method consistently outperforms traditional and AI-based methods: for example, with the convergence time in the MVUB dataset, our method reduces the bitstream by approximately 21.21% compared to G-PCC TMC13v23 and 21.95% compared to SparsePCGC. Point Cloud Compression and Objective Quality Assessment: A Survey

The rapid growth of 3D point cloud data, driven by applications in autonomous driving, robotics, and immersive environments, has led to criticals demand for efficient compression and quality assessment techniques. Unlike traditional 2D media, point clouds present unique challenges due to their irregular structure, high data volume, and complex attributes. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of recent advances in point cloud compression (PCC) and point cloud quality assessment (PCQA), emphasizing their significance for real-time and perceptually relevant applications. We analyze a wide range of handcrafted and learning-based PCC algorithms, along with objective PCQA metrics. By benchmarking representative methods on emerging datasets, we offer detailed comparisons and practical insights into their strengths and limitations. Despite notable progress, challenges such as enhancing visual fidelity, reducing latency, and supporting multimodal data remain. This survey outlines future directions, including hybrid compression frameworks and advanced feature extraction strategies, to enable more efficient, immersive, and intelligent 3D applications.

Building-Guided Pseudo-Label Learning for Cross-Modal Building Damage Mapping

Accurate building damage assessment using bi-temporal multi-modal remote sensing images is essential for effective disaster response and recovery planning. This study proposes a novel Building-Guided Pseudo-Label Learning Framework to address the challenges of mapping building damage from pre-disaster optical and post-disaster SAR images. First, we train a series of building extraction models using pre-disaster optical images and building labels. To enhance building segmentation, we employ multi-model fusion and test-time augmentation strategies to generate pseudo-probabilities, followed by a low-uncertainty pseudo-label training method for further refinement. Next, a change detection model is trained on bi-temporal cross-modal images and damaged building labels. To improve damage classification accuracy, we introduce a building-guided low-uncertainty pseudo-label refinement strategy, which leverages building priors from the previous step to guide pseudo-label generation for damaged buildings, reducing uncertainty and enhancing reliability. Experimental results on the 2025 IEEE GRSS Data Fusion Contest dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, which achieved the highest mIoU score (54.28%) and secured first place in the competition.

Degradation Alchemy: Self-Supervised Unknown-to-Known Transformation for Blind Hyperspectral Image Fusion

Hyperspectral image (HSI) fusion is an efficient technique that combines low-resolution HSI (LR-HSI) and high-resolution multispectral images (HR-MSI) to generate high-resolution HSI (HR-HSI). Existing supervised learning methods (SLMs) can yield promising results when test data degradation matches the training ones, but they face challenges in generalizing to unknown degradations. To unleash the potential and generalization ability of SLMs, we propose a novel self-supervised unknown-to-known degradation transformation framework (U2K) for blind HSI fusion, which adaptively transforms unknown degradation into the same type of degradation as those handled by pre-trained SLMs. Specifically, the proposed U2K framework consists of: (1) spatial and spectral Degradation Wrapping (DW) modules that map HR-HSI to unknown degraded HR-MSI and LR-HSI, and (2) Degradation Transformation (DT) modules that convert these wrapped data into predefined degradation patterns. The transformed HR-MSI and LR-HSI pairs are then processed by a pre-trained network to reconstruct the target HR-HSI. We train the U2K framework in a self-supervised manner using consistency loss and greedy alternating optimization, significantly improving the flexibility of blind HSI fusion. Extensive experiments confirm the effectiveness of our proposed U2K framework in boosting the adaptability of five existing SLMs under various degradation settings and surpassing state-of-the-art blind methods.

DeSTA: Enhancing Speech Language Models through Descriptive Speech-Text Alignment

Recent speech language models (SLMs) typically incorporate pre-trained speech models to extend the capabilities from large language models (LLMs). In this paper, we propose a Descriptive Speech-Text Alignment approach that leverages speech captioning to bridge the gap between speech and text modalities, enabling SLMs to interpret and generate comprehensive natural language descriptions, thereby facilitating the capability to understand both linguistic and non-linguistic features in speech. Enhanced with the proposed approach, our model demonstrates superior performance on the Dynamic-SUPERB benchmark, particularly in generalizing to unseen tasks. Moreover, we discover that the aligned model exhibits a zero-shot instruction-following capability without explicit speech instruction tuning. These findings highlight the potential to reshape instruction-following SLMs by incorporating rich, descriptive speech captions.

MM-Fi: Multi-Modal Non-Intrusive 4D Human Dataset for Versatile Wireless Sensing

4D human perception plays an essential role in a myriad of applications, such as home automation and metaverse avatar simulation. However, existing solutions which mainly rely on cameras and wearable devices are either privacy intrusive or inconvenient to use. To address these issues, wireless sensing has emerged as a promising alternative, leveraging LiDAR, mmWave radar, and WiFi signals for device-free human sensing. In this paper, we propose MM-Fi, the first multi-modal non-intrusive 4D human dataset with 27 daily or rehabilitation action categories, to bridge the gap between wireless sensing and high-level human perception tasks. MM-Fi consists of over 320k synchronized frames of five modalities from 40 human subjects. Various annotations are provided to support potential sensing tasks, e.g., human pose estimation and action recognition. Extensive experiments have been conducted to compare the sensing capacity of each or several modalities in terms of multiple tasks. We envision that MM-Fi can contribute to wireless sensing research with respect to action recognition, human pose estimation, multi-modal learning, cross-modal supervision, and interdisciplinary healthcare research.

Translational Concept Embedding for Generalized Compositional Zero-shot Learning

Generalized compositional zero-shot learning means to learn composed concepts of attribute-object pairs in a zero-shot fashion, where a model is trained on a set of seen concepts and tested on a combined set of seen and unseen concepts. This task is very challenging because of not only the gap between seen and unseen concepts but also the contextual dependency between attributes and objects. This paper introduces a new approach, termed translational concept embedding, to solve these two difficulties in a unified framework. It models the effect of applying an attribute to an object as adding a translational attribute feature to an object prototype. We explicitly take into account of the contextual dependency between attributes and objects by generating translational attribute features conditionally dependent on the object prototypes. Furthermore, we design a ratio variance constraint loss to promote the model's generalization ability on unseen concepts. It regularizes the distances between concepts by utilizing knowledge from their pretrained word embeddings. We evaluate the performance of our model under both the unbiased and biased concept classification tasks, and show that our model is able to achieve good balance in predicting unseen and seen concepts.

The Multi-Modal Video Reasoning and Analyzing Competition

This competition is composed of four different tracks, namely, video question answering, skeleton-based action recognition, fisheye video-based action recognition, and person re-identification, which are based on two datasets: SUTD-TrafficQA and UAV-Human. We summarize the top-performing methods submitted by the participants in this competition and show their results achieved in the competition.

AniVis: Generating Animated Transitions Between Statistical Charts with a Tree Model

Animated transitions help viewers understand changes between related visualizations. To clearly present the underlying relations between statistical charts, animation authors need to have a high level of expertise and a considerable amount of time to describe the relations with reasonable animation stages. We present AniVis, an automated approach for generating animated transitions to demonstrate the changes between two statistical charts. AniVis models each statistical chart into a tree-based structure. Given an input chart pair, the differences of data and visual properties of the chart pair are formalized as tree edit operations. The edit operations can be mapped to atomic transition units. Through this approach, the animated transition between two charts can be expressed as a set of transition units. Then, we conduct a formative study to understand people's preferences for animation sequences. Based on the study, we propose a set of principles and a sequence composition algorithm to compose the transition units into a meaningful animation sequence. Finally, we synthesize these units together to deliver a smooth and intuitive animated transition between charts. To test our approach, we present a prototype system and its generated results to illustrate the usage of our framework. We perform a comparative study to assess the transition sequence derived from the tree model. We further collect qualitative feedback to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of our method.

Addressing Class Imbalance in Scene Graph Parsing by Learning to Contrast and Score

Scene graph parsing aims to detect objects in an image scene and recognize their relations. Recent approaches have achieved high average scores on some popular benchmarks, but fail in detecting rare relations, as the highly long-tailed distribution of data biases the learning towards frequent labels. Motivated by the fact that detecting these rare relations can be critical in real-world applications, this paper introduces a novel integrated framework of classification and ranking to resolve the class imbalance problem in scene graph parsing. Specifically, we design a new Contrasting Cross-Entropy loss, which promotes the detection of rare relations by suppressing incorrect frequent ones. Furthermore, we propose a novel scoring module, termed as Scorer, which learns to rank the relations based on the image features and relation features to improve the recall of predictions. Our framework is simple and effective, and can be incorporated into current scene graph models. Experimental results show that the proposed approach improves the current state-of-the-art methods, with a clear advantage of detecting rare relations.

Multi-label Zero-shot Classification by Learning to Transfer from External Knowledge

Multi-label zero-shot classification aims to predict multiple unseen class labels for an input image. It is more challenging than its single-label counterpart. On one hand, the unconstrained number of labels assigned to each image makes the model more easily overfit to those seen classes. On the other hand, there is a large semantic gap between seen and unseen classes in the existing multi-label classification datasets. To address these difficult issues, this paper introduces a novel multi-label zero-shot classification framework by learning to transfer from external knowledge. We observe that ImageNet is commonly used to pretrain the feature extractor and has a large and fine-grained label space. This motivates us to exploit it as external knowledge to bridge the seen and unseen classes and promote generalization. Specifically, we construct a knowledge graph including not only classes from the target dataset but also those from ImageNet. Since ImageNet labels are not available in the target dataset, we propose a novel PosVAE module to infer their initial states in the extended knowledge graph. Then we design a relational graph convolutional network (RGCN) to propagate information among classes and achieve knowledge transfer. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Travel Time Prediction using Tree-Based Ensembles

In this paper, we consider the task of predicting travel times between two arbitrary points in an urban scenario. We view this problem from two temporal perspectives: long-term forecasting with a horizon of several days and short-term forecasting with a horizon of one hour. Both of these perspectives are relevant for planning tasks in the context of urban mobility and transportation services. We utilize tree-based ensemble methods that we train and evaluate on a dataset of taxi trip records from New York City. Through extensive data analysis, we identify relevant temporal and spatial features. We also engineer additional features based on weather and routing data. The latter is obtained via a routing solver operating on the road network. The computational results show that the addition of this routing data can be beneficial to the model performance. Moreover, employing different models for short and long-term prediction is useful as short-term models are better suited to mirror current traffic conditions. In fact, we show that accurate short-term predictions may be obtained with only little training data.

FedVision: An Online Visual Object Detection Platform Powered by Federated Learning

Visual object detection is a computer vision-based artificial intelligence (AI) technique which has many practical applications (e.g., fire hazard monitoring). However, due to privacy concerns and the high cost of transmitting video data, it is highly challenging to build object detection models on centrally stored large training datasets following the current approach. Federated learning (FL) is a promising approach to resolve this challenge. Nevertheless, there currently lacks an easy to use tool to enable computer vision application developers who are not experts in federated learning to conveniently leverage this technology and apply it in their systems. In this paper, we report FedVision - a machine learning engineering platform to support the development of federated learning powered computer vision applications. The platform has been deployed through a collaboration between WeBank and Extreme Vision to help customers develop computer vision-based safety monitoring solutions in smart city applications. Over four months of usage, it has achieved significant efficiency improvement and cost reduction while removing the need to transmit sensitive data for three major corporate customers. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first real application of FL in computer vision-based tasks.

Instance Scale Normalization for image understanding

Scale variation remains a challenging problem for object detection. Common paradigms usually adopt multiscale training & testing (image pyramid) or FPN (feature pyramid network) to process objects in a wide scale range. However, multi-scale methods aggravate more variations of scale that even deep convolution neural networks with FPN cannot handle well. In this work, we propose an innovative paradigm called Instance Scale Normalization (ISN) to resolve the above problem. ISN compresses the scale space of objects into a consistent range (ISN range), in both training and testing phases. This reassures the problem of scale variation fundamentally and reduces the difficulty of network optimization. Experiments show that ISN surpasses multi-scale counterpart significantly for object detection, instance segmentation, and multi-task human pose estimation, on several architectures. On COCO test-dev, our single model based on ISN achieves 46.5 mAP with a ResNet-101 backbone, which is among the state-of-the-art (SOTA) candidates for object detection.

Text-to-Viz: Automatic Generation of Infographics from Proportion-Related Natural Language Statements

Combining data content with visual embellishments, infographics can effectively deliver messages in an engaging and memorable manner. Various authoring tools have been proposed to facilitate the creation of infographics. However, creating a professional infographic with these authoring tools is still not an easy task, requiring much time and design expertise. Therefore, these tools are generally not attractive to casual users, who are either unwilling to take time to learn the tools or lacking in proper design expertise to create a professional infographic. In this paper, we explore an alternative approach: to automatically generate infographics from natural language statements. We first conducted a preliminary study to explore the design space of infographics. Based on the preliminary study, we built a proof-of-concept system that automatically converts statements about simple proportion-related statistics to a set of infographics with pre-designed styles. Finally, we demonstrated the usability and usefulness of the system through sample results, exhibits, and expert reviews.

On-Demand Video Dispatch Networks: A Scalable End-to-End Learning Approach

We design a dispatch system to improve the peak service quality of video on demand (VOD). Our system predicts the hot videos during the peak hours of the next day based on the historical requests, and dispatches to the content delivery networks (CDNs) at the previous off-peak time. In order to scale to billions of videos, we build the system with two neural networks, one for video clustering and the other for dispatch policy developing. The clustering network employs autoencoder layers and reduces the video number to a fixed value. The policy network employs fully connected layers and ranks the clustered videos with dispatch probabilities. The two networks are coupled with weight-sharing temporal layers, which analyze the video request sequences with convolutional and recurrent modules. Therefore, the clustering and dispatch tasks are trained in an end-to-end mechanism. The real-world results show that our approach achieves an average prediction accuracy of 17%, compared with 3% from the present baseline method, for the same amount of dispatches.

Generative Dual Adversarial Network for Generalized Zero-shot Learning

This paper studies the problem of generalized zero-shot learning which requires the model to train on image-label pairs from some seen classes and test on the task of classifying new images from both seen and unseen classes. Most previous models try to learn a fixed one-directional mapping between visual and semantic space, while some recently proposed generative methods try to generate image features for unseen classes so that the zero-shot learning problem becomes a traditional fully-supervised classification problem. In this paper, we propose a novel model that provides a unified framework for three different approaches: visual-> semantic mapping, semantic->visual mapping, and metric learning. Specifically, our proposed model consists of a feature generator that can generate various visual features given class embeddings as input, a regressor that maps each visual feature back to its corresponding class embedding, and a discriminator that learns to evaluate the closeness of an image feature and a class embedding. All three components are trained under the combination of cyclic consistency loss and dual adversarial loss. Experimental results show that our model not only preserves higher accuracy in classifying images from seen classes, but also performs better than existing state-of-the-art models in in classifying images from unseen classes.

dpMood: Exploiting Local and Periodic Typing Dynamics for Personalized Mood Prediction

Mood disorders are common and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis has the potential to greatly alleviate the burden of mental illness and the ever increasing costs to families and society. Mobile devices provide us a promising opportunity to detect the users' mood in an unobtrusive manner. In this study, we use a custom keyboard which collects keystrokes' meta-data and accelerometer values. Based on the collected time series data in multiple modalities, we propose a deep personalized mood prediction approach, called {\pro}, by integrating convolutional and recurrent deep architectures as well as exploring each individual's circadian rhythm. Experimental results not only demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of using smart-phone meta-data to predict the presence and severity of mood disturbances in bipolar subjects, but also show the potential of personalized medical treatment for mood disorders.

NavigationNet: A Large-scale Interactive Indoor Navigation Dataset

Indoor navigation aims at performing navigation within buildings. In scenes like home and factory, most intelligent mobile devices require an functionality of routing to guide itself precisely through indoor scenes to complete various tasks in order to serve human. In most scenarios, we expected an intelligent device capable of navigating itself in unseen environment. Although several solutions have been proposed to deal with this issue, they usually require pre-installed beacons or a map pre-built with SLAM, which means that they are not capable of working in novel environments. To address this, we proposed NavigationNet, a computer vision dataset and benchmark to allow the utilization of deep reinforcement learning on scene-understanding-based indoor navigation. We also proposed and formalized several typical indoor routing problems that are suitable for deep reinforcement learning.

MARS: Memory Attention-Aware Recommender System

In this paper, we study the problem of modeling users' diverse interests. Previous methods usually learn a fixed user representation, which has a limited ability to represent distinct interests of a user. In order to model users' various interests, we propose a Memory Attention-aware Recommender System (MARS). MARS utilizes a memory component and a novel attentional mechanism to learn deep \textit{adaptive user representations}. Trained in an end-to-end fashion, MARS adaptively summarizes users' interests. In the experiments, MARS outperforms seven state-of-the-art methods on three real-world datasets in terms of recall and mean average precision. We also demonstrate that MARS has a great interpretability to explain its recommendation results, which is important in many recommendation scenarios.

An Introduction to Image Synthesis with Generative Adversarial Nets

There has been a drastic growth of research in Generative Adversarial Nets (GANs) in the past few years. Proposed in 2014, GAN has been applied to various applications such as computer vision and natural language processing, and achieves impressive performance. Among the many applications of GAN, image synthesis is the most well-studied one, and research in this area has already demonstrated the great potential of using GAN in image synthesis. In this paper, we provide a taxonomy of methods used in image synthesis, review different models for text-to-image synthesis and image-to-image translation, and discuss some evaluation metrics as well as possible future research directions in image synthesis with GAN.
