A Screen-Shooting Resilient Document Image Watermarking Scheme using Deep Neural Network

Sulong Ge, Zhihua Xia, Yao Tong et al.

With the advent of the screen-reading era, the confidential documents displayed on the screen can be easily captured by a camera without leaving any traces. Thus, this paper proposes a novel screen-shooting resilient watermarking scheme for document image using deep neural network. By applying this scheme, when the watermarked image is displayed on the screen and captured by a camera, the watermark can be still extracted from the captured photographs. Specifically, our scheme is an end-to-end neural network with an encoder to embed watermark and a decoder to extract watermark. During the training process, a distortion layer between encoder and decoder is added to simulate the distortions introduced by screen-shooting process in real scenes, such as camera distortion, shooting distortion, light source distortion. Besides, an embedding strength adjustment strategy is designed to improve the visual quality of the watermarked image with little loss of extraction accuracy. The experimental results show that the scheme has higher robustness and visual quality than other three recent state-of-the-arts. Specially, even if the shooting distances and angles are in extreme, our scheme can also obtain high extraction accuracy.

Low-Multi-Rank High-Order Bayesian Robust Tensor Factorization

Jianan Liu, Chunguang Li

The recently proposed tensor robust principal component analysis (TRPCA) methods based on tensor singular value decomposition (t-SVD) have achieved numerous successes in many fields. However, most of these methods are only applicable to third-order tensors, whereas the data obtained in practice are often of higher order, such as fourth-order color videos, fourth-order hyperspectral videos, and fifth-order light-field images. Additionally, in the t-SVD framework, the multi-rank of a tensor can describe more fine-grained low-rank structure in the tensor compared with the tubal rank. However, determining the multi-rank of a tensor is a much more difficult problem than determining the tubal rank. Moreover, most of the existing TRPCA methods do not explicitly model the noises except the sparse noise, which may compromise the accuracy of estimating the low-rank tensor. In this work, we propose a novel high-order TRPCA method, named as Low-Multi-rank High-order Bayesian Robust Tensor Factorization (LMH-BRTF), within the Bayesian framework. Specifically, we decompose the observed corrupted tensor into three parts, i.e., the low-rank component, the sparse component, and the noise component. By constructing a low-rank model for the low-rank component based on the order-$d$ t-SVD and introducing a proper prior for the model, LMH-BRTF can automatically determine the tensor multi-rank. Meanwhile, benefiting from the explicit modeling of both the sparse and noise components, the proposed method can leverage information from the noises more effectivly, leading to an improved performance of TRPCA. Then, an efficient variational inference algorithm is established for parameters estimation. Empirical studies on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of both qualitative and quantitative results.

Legal Document Summarization: Enhancing Judicial Efficiency through Automation Detection

Yongjie Li, Ruilin Nong, Jianan Liu et al.

Legal document summarization represents a significant advancement towards improving judicial efficiency through the automation of key information detection. Our approach leverages state-of-the-art natural language processing techniques to meticulously identify and extract essential data from extensive legal texts, which facilitates a more efficient review process. By employing advanced machine learning algorithms, the framework recognizes underlying patterns within judicial documents to create precise summaries that encapsulate the crucial elements. This automation alleviates the burden on legal professionals, concurrently reducing the likelihood of overlooking vital information that could lead to errors. Through comprehensive experiments conducted with actual legal datasets, we demonstrate the capability of our method to generate high-quality summaries while preserving the integrity of the original content and enhancing processing times considerably. The results reveal marked improvements in operational efficiency, allowing legal practitioners to direct their efforts toward critical analytical and decision-making activities instead of manual reviews. This research highlights promising technology-driven strategies that can significantly alter workflow dynamics within the legal sector, emphasizing the role of automation in refining judicial processes.

Adaptive Learning Systems: Personalized Curriculum Design Using LLM-Powered Analytics

Yongjie Li, Ruilin Nong, Jianan Liu et al.

Large language models (LLMs) are revolutionizing the field of education by enabling personalized learning experiences tailored to individual student needs. In this paper, we introduce a framework for Adaptive Learning Systems that leverages LLM-powered analytics for personalized curriculum design. This innovative approach uses advanced machine learning to analyze real-time data, allowing the system to adapt learning pathways and recommend resources that align with each learner's progress. By continuously assessing students, our framework enhances instructional strategies, ensuring that the materials presented are relevant and engaging. Experimental results indicate a marked improvement in both learner engagement and knowledge retention when using a customized curriculum. Evaluations conducted across varied educational environments demonstrate the framework's flexibility and positive influence on learning outcomes, potentially reshaping conventional educational practices into a more adaptive and student-centered model.

pvCNN: Privacy-Preserving and Verifiable Convolutional Neural Network Testing

Jiasi Weng, Jian Weng, Gui Tang et al.

This paper proposes a new approach for privacy-preserving and verifiable convolutional neural network (CNN) testing, enabling a CNN model developer to convince a user of the truthful CNN performance over non-public data from multiple testers, while respecting model privacy. To balance the security and efficiency issues, three new efforts are done by appropriately integrating homomorphic encryption (HE) and zero-knowledge succinct non-interactive argument of knowledge (zk-SNARK) primitives with the CNN testing. First, a CNN model to be tested is strategically partitioned into a private part kept locally by the model developer, and a public part outsourced to an outside server. Then, the private part runs over HE-protected test data sent by a tester and transmits its outputs to the public part for accomplishing subsequent computations of the CNN testing. Second, the correctness of the above CNN testing is enforced by generating zk-SNARK based proofs, with an emphasis on optimizing proving overhead for two-dimensional (2-D) convolution operations, since the operations dominate the performance bottleneck during generating proofs. We specifically present a new quadratic matrix programs (QMPs)-based arithmetic circuit with a single multiplication gate for expressing 2-D convolution operations between multiple filters and inputs in a batch manner. Third, we aggregate multiple proofs with respect to a same CNN model but different testers' test data (i.e., different statements) into one proof, and ensure that the validity of the aggregated proof implies the validity of the original multiple proofs. Lastly, our experimental results demonstrate that our QMPs-based zk-SNARK performs nearly 13.9$\times$faster than the existing QAPs-based zk-SNARK in proving time, and 17.6$\times$faster in Setup time, for high-dimension matrix multiplication.

Secure Software-Defined Networking Based on Blockchain

Weng Jiasi, Weng Jian, Liu Jia-Nan et al.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) separates the network control plane and data plane, which provides a network-wide view with centralized control (in the control plane) and programmable network configuration for data plane injected by SDN applications (in the application plane). With these features, a number of drawbacks of the traditional network architectures such as static configuration, non-scalability and low efficiency can be effectively avoided. However, SDN also brings with it some new security challenges, such as single-point failure of the control plane, malicious flows from applications, exposed network-wide resources and a vulnerable channel between the control plane and the data plane. In this paper, we design a monolithic security mechanism for SDN based on Blockchain. Our mechanism decentralizes the control plane to overcome single-point failure while maintaining a network-wide view. The mechanism also guarantees the authenticity, traceability, and accountability of application flows, and hence secures the programmable configuration. Moreover, the mechanism provides a fine-grained access control of network-wide resources and a secure controller-switch channel to further protect resources and communication in SDN.
