BitQ: Tailoring Block Floating Point Precision for Improved DNN Efficiency on Resource-Constrained DevicesYongqi Xu, Yujian Lee, Gao Yi et al.
Deep neural networks (DNNs) are powerful for cognitive tasks such as image classification, object detection, and scene segmentation. One drawback however is the significant high computational complexity and memory consumption, which makes them unfeasible to run real-time on embedded platforms because of the limited hardware resources. Block floating point (BFP) quantization is one of the representative compression approaches for reducing the memory and computational burden owing to their capability to effectively capture the broad data distribution of DNN models. Unfortunately, prior works on BFP-based quantization empirically choose the block size and the precision that preserve accuracy. In this paper, we develop a BFP-based bitwidth-aware analytical modeling framework (called ``BitQ'') for the best BFP implementation of DNN inference on embedded platforms. We formulate and resolve an optimization problem to identify the optimal BFP block size and bitwidth distribution by the trade-off of both accuracy and performance loss. Experimental results show that compared with an equal bitwidth setting, the BFP DNNs with optimized bitwidth allocation provide efficient computation, preserving accuracy on famous benchmarks. LFACon: Introducing Anglewise Attention to No-Reference Quality Assessment in Light Field SpaceQiang Qu, Xiaoming Chen, Yuk Ying Chung et al.
Light field imaging can capture both the intensity information and the direction information of light rays. It naturally enables a six-degrees-of-freedom viewing experience and deep user engagement in virtual reality. Compared to 2D image assessment, light field image quality assessment (LFIQA) needs to consider not only the image quality in the spatial domain but also the quality consistency in the angular domain. However, there is a lack of metrics to effectively reflect the angular consistency and thus the angular quality of a light field image (LFI). Furthermore, the existing LFIQA metrics suffer from high computational costs due to the excessive data volume of LFIs. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of "anglewise attention" by introducing a multihead self-attention mechanism to the angular domain of an LFI. This mechanism better reflects the LFI quality. In particular, we propose three new attention kernels, including anglewise self-attention, anglewise grid attention, and anglewise central attention. These attention kernels can realize angular self-attention, extract multiangled features globally or selectively, and reduce the computational cost of feature extraction. By effectively incorporating the proposed kernels, we further propose our light field attentional convolutional neural network (LFACon) as an LFIQA metric. Our experimental results show that the proposed LFACon metric significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art LFIQA metrics. For the majority of distortion types, LFACon attains the best performance with lower complexity and less computational time.

In light of these remarkable capabilities, this paper provides a comprehensive survey of WLAM, explaining its fundamental principles, diverse applications, critical challenges, and future research opportunities. We begin by introducing the background of WLAM and analyzing the key synergies with wireless networks, emphasizing the mutual benefits. Subsequently, we explore the foundational characteristics of WLAM, delving into their unique relevance in wireless environments. Then, the role of WLAM in optimizing wireless communication systems across various use cases and the reciprocal benefits are systematically investigated. Furthermore, we discuss the integration of WLAM with emerging technologies, highlighting their potential to enable transformative capabilities and breakthroughs in wireless communication. Finally, we thoroughly examine the high-level challenges and discuss pivotal future research directions.

Can Large Language Models Grasp Event Signals? Exploring Pure Zero-Shot Event-based RecognitionZongyou Yu, Qiang Qu, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Recent advancements in event-based zero-shot object recognition have demonstrated promising results. However, these methods heavily depend on extensive training and are inherently constrained by the characteristics of CLIP. To the best of our knowledge, this research is the first study to explore the understanding capabilities of large language models (LLMs) for event-based visual content. We demonstrate that LLMs can achieve event-based object recognition without additional training or fine-tuning in conjunction with CLIP, effectively enabling pure zero-shot event-based recognition. Particularly, we evaluate the ability of GPT-4o / 4turbo and two other open-source LLMs to directly recognize event-based visual content. Extensive experiments are conducted across three benchmark datasets, systematically assessing the recognition accuracy of these models. The results show that LLMs, especially when enhanced with well-designed prompts, significantly improve event-based zero-shot recognition performance. Notably, GPT-4o outperforms the compared models and exceeds the recognition accuracy of state-of-the-art event-based zero-shot methods on N-ImageNet by five orders of magnitude. Can We Hear from Events? Generating Speech from Event CameraJingping Fang, Lin Chen, Chenyang Xu et al.
Traditional RGB-based speech generation faces Temporal Granularity Mismatch since fixed camera exposure times inevitably blur the high-frequency articulatory transients essential for rendering emotional speech. To break this ceiling, we propose EventSpeech as a novel text-conditioned framework pioneering the use of neuromorphic events for expressive speech generation, since these microsecond-precise events naturally align with acoustic waveform dynamics. Our architecture integrates a dedicated Event Encoder to model sparse neuromorphic events alongside a multi-scale Audio Encoder featuring a Hierarchical Wavelet Contextualizer (HWC). A bidirectional alignment mechanism seamlessly synchronizes linguistic content and visual dynamics with dense acoustic features. Furthermore, we construct EVT-SPK as the first benchmark comprising large-scale synthetic data and real-world recordings from specialized neuromorphic hardware. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that EventSpeech significantly outperforms current baselines by preserving fine-grained emotions and resisting motion blur to establish a new paradigm for multimodal speech generation. Guess-Verify-Refine: Data-Aware Top-K for Sparse-Attention Decoding on Blackwell via Temporal CorrelationLong Cheng, Ritchie Zhao, Timmy Liu et al.
Sparse-attention decoders rely on exact Top-K selection to choose the most important key-value entries for each query token. In long-context LLM serving, this Top-K stage runs once per decode query and becomes a meaningful latency bottleneck even when the indexer and attention kernels are already highly optimized. We present \textbf{Guess-Verify-Refine (GVR)}, a data-aware exact Top-K algorithm for sparse-attention decoding on NVIDIA Blackwell. GVR exploits temporal correlation across consecutive decode steps: it uses the previous step's Top-K as a prediction signal, computes pre-indexed statistics, narrows to a valid threshold by secant-style counting in 1-2 global passes, verifies candidates with a ballot-free collector, and finishes exact selection in shared memory. We connect this behavior to the Toeplitz / RoPE structure of DeepSeek Sparse Attention (DSA) indexer scores and validate the design on real DeepSeek-V3.2 workloads integrated into TensorRT-LLM. GVR achieves an average \textbf{1.88x} single-operator speedup over the production radix-select kernel, with up to \textbf{2.42x} per layer per step, while preserving bit-exact Top-K outputs. In controlled TEP8 min-latency deployment, it improves end-to-end TPOT by up to \textbf{7.52%} at 100K context, with larger gains at longer contexts and smaller but still positive gains under speculative decoding. While implemented and validated in the current TensorRT-LLM DSA stack on Blackwell, the same principle may extend to sparse-attention decoders whose decode-phase Top-K exhibits temporal stability.

DynFOA: Generating First-Order Ambisonics with Conditional Diffusion for Dynamic and Acoustically Complex 360-Degree VideosZiyu Luo, Lin Chen, Qiang Qu et al.
Spatial audio is crucial for immersive 360-degree video experiences, yet most 360-degree videos lack it due to the difficulty of capturing spatial audio during recording. Automatically generating spatial audio such as first-order ambisonics (FOA) from video therefore remains an important but challenging problem. In complex scenes, sound perception depends not only on sound source locations but also on scene geometry, materials, and dynamic interactions with the environment. However, existing approaches only rely on visual cues and fail to model dynamic sources and acoustic effects such as occlusion, reflections, and reverberation. To address these challenges, we propose DynFOA, a generative framework that synthesizes FOA from 360-degree videos by integrating dynamic scene reconstruction with conditional diffusion modeling. DynFOA analyzes the input video to detect and localize dynamic sound sources, estimate depth and semantics, and reconstruct scene geometry and materials using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). The reconstructed scene representation provides physically grounded features that capture acoustic interactions between sources, environment, and listener viewpoint. Conditioned on these features, a diffusion model generates spatial audio consistent with the scene dynamics and acoustic context. We introduce M2G-360, a dataset of 600 real-world clips divided into MoveSources, Multi-Source, and Geometry subsets for evaluating robustness under diverse conditions. Experiments show that DynFOA consistently outperforms existing methods in spatial accuracy, acoustic fidelity, distribution matching, and perceived immersive experience.

FedsLLM: Federated Split Learning for Large Language Models over Communication NetworksKai Zhao, Zhaohui Yang, Chongwen Huang et al.
Addressing the challenges of deploying large language models in wireless communication networks, this paper combines low-rank adaptation technology (LoRA) with the splitfed learning framework to propose the federated split learning for large language models (FedsLLM) framework. The method introduced in this paper utilizes LoRA technology to reduce processing loads by dividing the network into client subnetworks and server subnetworks. It leverages a federated server to aggregate and update client models. As the training data are transmitted through a wireless network between clients and both main and federated servers, the training delay is determined by the learning accuracy and the allocation of communication bandwidth. This paper models the minimization of the training delay by integrating computation and communication optimization, simplifying the optimization problem into a convex problem to find the optimal solution. Additionally, it presents a lemma that describes the precise solutions to this problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed optimization algorithm reduces delays by an average of 47.63% compared to unoptimized scenarios.

Less is More: Skim Transformer for Light Field Image Super-resolutionZeke Zexi Hu, Haodong Chen, Hui Ye et al.
A light field image captures scenes through its micro-lens array, providing a rich representation that encompasses spatial and angular information. While this richness comes at significant data redundancy, most existing methods tend to indiscriminately utilize all the information from sub-aperture images (SAIs) in an attempt to harness every visual cue regardless of their disparity significance. However, this paradigm inevitably leads to disparity entanglement, a fundamental cause of inefficiency in light field image processing. To address this limitation, we introduce the Skim Transformer, a novel architecture inspired by the "less is more" philosophy. It features a multi-branch structure where each branch is dedicated to a specific disparity range by constructing its attention score matrix over a skimmed subset of SAIs, rather than all of them. Building upon it, we present SkimLFSR, an efficient yet powerful network for light field image super-resolution. Requiring only 67% of the prior leading method's parameters}, SkimLFSR achieves state-of-the-art results surpassing the best existing method by 0.63 dB and 0.35 dB PSNR at the 2x and 4x tasks, respectively. Through in-depth analyses, we reveal that SkimLFSR, guided by the predefined skimmed SAI sets as prior knowledge, demonstrates distinct disparity-aware behaviors in attending to visual cues. Last but not least, we conduct an experiment to validate SkimLFSR's generalizability across different angular resolutions, where it achieves competitive performance on a larger angular resolution without any retraining or major network modifications. These findings highlight its effectiveness and adaptability as a promising paradigm for light field image processing.

NeRF-NQA: No-Reference Quality Assessment for Scenes Generated by NeRF and Neural View Synthesis MethodsQiang Qu, Hanxue Liang, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Neural View Synthesis (NVS) has demonstrated efficacy in generating high-fidelity dense viewpoint videos using a image set with sparse views. However, existing quality assessment methods like PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS are not tailored for the scenes with dense viewpoints synthesized by NVS and NeRF variants, thus, they often fall short in capturing the perceptual quality, including spatial and angular aspects of NVS-synthesized scenes. Furthermore, the lack of dense ground truth views makes the full reference quality assessment on NVS-synthesized scenes challenging. For instance, datasets such as LLFF provide only sparse images, insufficient for complete full-reference assessments. To address the issues above, we propose NeRF-NQA, the first no-reference quality assessment method for densely-observed scenes synthesized from the NVS and NeRF variants. NeRF-NQA employs a joint quality assessment strategy, integrating both viewwise and pointwise approaches, to evaluate the quality of NVS-generated scenes. The viewwise approach assesses the spatial quality of each individual synthesized view and the overall inter-views consistency, while the pointwise approach focuses on the angular qualities of scene surface points and their compound inter-point quality. Extensive evaluations are conducted to compare NeRF-NQA with 23 mainstream visual quality assessment methods (from fields of image, video, and light-field assessment). The results demonstrate NeRF-NQA outperforms the existing assessment methods significantly and it shows substantial superiority on assessing NVS-synthesized scenes without references. SketchPlay: Intuitive Creation of Physically Realistic VR Content with Gesture-Driven SketchingXiangwen Zhang, Xiaowei Dai, Runnan Chen et al.
Creating physically realistic content in VR often requires complex modeling tools or predefined 3D models, textures, and animations, which present significant barriers for non-expert users. In this paper, we propose SketchPlay, a novel VR interaction framework that transforms humans' air-drawn sketches and gestures into dynamic, physically realistic scenes, making content creation intuitive and playful like drawing. Specifically, sketches capture the structure and spatial arrangement of objects and scenes, while gestures convey physical cues such as velocity, direction, and force that define movement and behavior. By combining these complementary forms of input, SketchPlay captures both the structure and dynamics of user-created content, enabling the generation of a wide range of complex physical phenomena, such as rigid body motion, elastic deformation, and cloth dynamics. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared to traditional text-driven methods, SketchPlay offers significant advantages in expressiveness, and user experience. By providing an intuitive and engaging creation process, SketchPlay lowers the entry barrier for non-expert users and shows strong potential for applications in education, art, and immersive storytelling.

HYLU: Hybrid Parallel Sparse LU FactorizationXiaoming Chen
This article introduces HYLU, a hybrid parallel LU factorization-based general-purpose solver designed for efficiently solving sparse linear systems (Ax=b) on multi-core shared-memory architectures. The key technical feature of HYLU is the integration of hybrid numerical kernels so that it can adapt to various sparsity patterns of coefficient matrices. Tests on 37 sparse matrices from SuiteSparse Matrix Collection reveal that HYLU outperforms Intel MKL PARDISO in the numerical factorization phase by geometric means of 2.36X (for one-time solving) and 2.90X (for repeated solving). SVIPTR: Fast and Efficient Scene Text Recognition with Vision Permutable ExtractorXianfu Cheng, Weixiao Zhou, Xiang Li et al.
Scene Text Recognition (STR) is an important and challenging upstream task for building structured information databases, that involves recognizing text within images of natural scenes. Although current state-of-the-art (SOTA) models for STR exhibit high performance, they typically suffer from low inference efficiency due to their reliance on hybrid architectures comprised of visual encoders and sequence decoders. In this work, we propose a VIsion Permutable extractor for fast and efficient Scene Text Recognition (SVIPTR), which achieves an impressive balance between high performance and rapid inference speeds in the domain of STR. Specifically, SVIPTR leverages a visual-semantic extractor with a pyramid structure, characterized by the Permutation and combination of local and global self-attention layers. This design results in a lightweight and efficient model and its inference is insensitive to input length. Extensive experimental results on various standard datasets for both Chinese and English scene text recognition validate the superiority of SVIPTR. Notably, the SVIPTR-T (Tiny) variant delivers highly competitive accuracy on par with other lightweight models and achieves SOTA inference speeds. Meanwhile, the SVIPTR-L (Large) attains SOTA accuracy in single-encoder-type models, while maintaining a low parameter count and favorable inference speed. Our proposed method provides a compelling solution for the STR challenge, which greatly benefits real-world applications requiring fast and efficient STR. DWDP: Distributed Weight Data Parallelism for High-Performance LLM Inference on NVL72Wanqian Li, Jintao Peng, Zongfei Jing et al.
Large language model (LLM) inference increasingly depends on multi-GPU execution, yet existing inference parallelization strategies require layer-wise inter-rank synchronization, making end-to-end performance sensitive to workload imbalance. We present DWDP (Distributed Weight Data Parallelism), an inference parallelization strategy that preserves data-parallel execution while offloading MoE weights across peer GPUs and fetching missing experts on demand. By removing collective inter-rank synchronization, DWDP allows each GPU to progress independently. We further address the practical overheads of this design with two optimizations for split-weight management and asynchronous remote-weight prefetch. Implemented in TensorRT-LLM and evaluated with DeepSeek-R1 on GB200 NVL72, DWDP improves end-to-end output TPS/GPU by 8.8% at comparable TPS/user in the 20-100 TPS/user serving range under 8K input sequence length and 1K output sequence length.

Light Field Image Quality Assessment With Auxiliary Learning Based on Depthwise and Anglewise Separable ConvolutionsQiang Qu, Xiaoming Chen, Vera Chung et al.
In multimedia broadcasting, no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) is used to indicate the user-perceived quality of experience (QoE) and to support intelligent data transmission while optimizing user experience. This paper proposes an improved no-reference light field image quality assessment (NR-LFIQA) metric for future immersive media broadcasting services. First, we extend the concept of depthwise separable convolution (DSC) to the spatial domain of light field image (LFI) and introduce "light field depthwise separable convolution (LF-DSC)", which can extract the LFI's spatial features efficiently. Second, we further theoretically extend the LF-DSC to the angular space of LFI and introduce the novel concept of "light field anglewise separable convolution (LF-ASC)", which is capable of extracting both the spatial and angular features for comprehensive quality assessment with low complexity. Third, we define the spatial and angular feature estimations as auxiliary tasks in aiding the primary NR-LFIQA task by providing spatial and angular quality features as hints. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first exploration of deep auxiliary learning with spatial-angular hints on NR-LFIQA. Experiments were conducted in mainstream LFI datasets such as Win5-LID and SMART with comparisons to the mainstream full reference IQA metrics as well as the state-of-the-art NR-LFIQA methods. The experimental results show that the proposed metric yields overall 42.86% and 45.95% smaller prediction errors than the second-best benchmarking metric in Win5-LID and SMART, respectively. In some challenging cases with particular distortion types, the proposed metric can reduce the errors significantly by more than 60%.

Beyond Gaussians: Fast and High-Fidelity 3D Splatting with Linear KernelsHaodong Chen, Runnan Chen, Qiang Qu et al.
Recent advancements in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have substantially improved novel view synthesis, enabling high-quality reconstruction and real-time rendering. However, blurring artifacts, such as floating primitives and over-reconstruction, remain challenging. Current methods address these issues by refining scene structure, enhancing geometric representations, addressing blur in training images, improving rendering consistency, and optimizing density control, yet the role of kernel design remains underexplored. We identify the soft boundaries of Gaussian ellipsoids as one of the causes of these artifacts, limiting detail capture in high-frequency regions. To bridge this gap, we introduce 3D Linear Splatting (3DLS), which replaces Gaussian kernels with linear kernels to achieve sharper and more precise results, particularly in high-frequency regions. Through evaluations on three datasets, 3DLS demonstrates state-of-the-art fidelity and accuracy, along with a 30% FPS improvement over baseline 3DGS. EvRepSL: Event-Stream Representation via Self-Supervised Learning for Event-Based VisionQiang Qu, Xiaoming Chen, Yuk Ying Chung et al.
Event-stream representation is the first step for many computer vision tasks using event cameras. It converts the asynchronous event-streams into a formatted structure so that conventional machine learning models can be applied easily. However, most of the state-of-the-art event-stream representations are manually designed and the quality of these representations cannot be guaranteed due to the noisy nature of event-streams. In this paper, we introduce a data-driven approach aiming at enhancing the quality of event-stream representations. Our approach commences with the introduction of a new event-stream representation based on spatial-temporal statistics, denoted as EvRep. Subsequently, we theoretically derive the intrinsic relationship between asynchronous event-streams and synchronous video frames. Building upon this theoretical relationship, we train a representation generator, RepGen, in a self-supervised learning manner accepting EvRep as input. Finally, the event-streams are converted to high-quality representations, termed as EvRepSL, by going through the learned RepGen (without the need of fine-tuning or retraining). Our methodology is rigorously validated through extensive evaluations on a variety of mainstream event-based classification and optical flow datasets (captured with various types of event cameras). The experimental results highlight not only our approach's superior performance over existing event-stream representations but also its versatility, being agnostic to different event cameras and tasks.

LLM-EvRep: Learning an LLM-Compatible Event Representation Using a Self-Supervised FrameworkZongyou Yu, Qiang Qu, Qian Zhang et al.
Recent advancements in event-based recognition have demonstrated significant promise, yet most existing approaches rely on extensive training, limiting their adaptability for efficient processing of event-driven visual content. Meanwhile, large language models (LLMs) have exhibited remarkable zero-shot capabilities across diverse domains, but their application to event-based visual recognition remains largely unexplored. To bridge this gap, we propose \textbf{LLM-EvGen}, an event representation generator that produces LLM-compatible event representations \textbf{LLM-EvRep}, thereby enhancing the performance of LLMs on event recognition tasks. The generator is trained using a self-supervised framework, aligning the generated representations with semantic consistency and structural fidelity. Comprehensive experiments were conducted on three datasets: N-ImageNet, N-Caltech101, and N-MNIST. The results demonstrate that our method, \textbf{LLM-EvRep}, outperforms the event-to-video method, E2VID, by 15.93\%, 0.82\%, and 50.21\%, respectively, in recognition tasks when evaluated using GPT-4o.

Beyond Subspace Isolation: Many-to-Many Transformer for Light Field Image Super-resolutionZeke Zexi Hu, Xiaoming Chen, Vera Yuk Ying Chung et al.
The effective extraction of spatial-angular features plays a crucial role in light field image super-resolution (LFSR) tasks, and the introduction of convolution and Transformers leads to significant improvement in this area. Nevertheless, due to the large 4D data volume of light field images, many existing methods opted to decompose the data into a number of lower-dimensional subspaces and perform Transformers in each sub-space individually. As a side effect, these methods inadvertently restrict the self-attention mechanisms to a One-to-One scheme accessing only a limited subset of LF data, explicitly preventing comprehensive optimization on all spatial and angular cues. In this paper, we identify this limitation as subspace isolation and introduce a novel Many-to-Many Transformer (M2MT) to address it. M2MT aggregates angular information in the spatial subspace before performing the self-attention mechanism. It enables complete access to all information across all sub-aperture images (SAIs) in a light field image. Consequently, M2MT is enabled to comprehensively capture long-range correlation dependencies. With M2MT as the foundational component, we develop a simple yet effective M2MT network for LFSR. Our experimental results demonstrate that M2MT achieves state-of-the-art performance across various public datasets, and it offers a favorable balance between model performance and efficiency, yielding higher-quality LFSR results with substantially lower demand for memory and computation. We further conduct in-depth analysis using local attribution maps (LAM) to obtain visual interpretability, and the results validate that M2MT is empowered with a truly non-local context in both spatial and angular subspaces to mitigate subspace isolation and acquire effective spatial-angular representation.

EvAnimate: Event-conditioned Image-to-Video Generation for Human AnimationQiang Qu, Ming Li, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Conditional human animation traditionally animates static reference images using pose-based motion cues extracted from video data. However, these video-derived cues often suffer from low temporal resolution, motion blur, and unreliable performance under challenging lighting conditions. In contrast, event cameras inherently provide robust and high temporal-resolution motion information, offering resilience to motion blur, low-light environments, and exposure variations. In this paper, we propose EvAnimate, the first method leveraging event streams as robust and precise motion cues for conditional human image animation. Our approach is fully compatible with diffusion-based generative models, enabled by encoding asynchronous event data into a specialized three-channel representation with adaptive slicing rates and densities. High-quality and temporally coherent animations are achieved through a dual-branch architecture explicitly designed to exploit event-driven dynamics, significantly enhancing performance under challenging real-world conditions. Enhanced cross-subject generalization is further achieved using specialized augmentation strategies. To facilitate future research, we establish a new benchmarking, including simulated event data for training and validation, and a real-world event dataset capturing human actions under normal and challenging scenarios. The experiment results demonstrate that EvAnimate achieves high temporal fidelity and robust performance in scenarios where traditional video-derived cues fall short.

AccidentSim: Generating Physically Realistic Vehicle Collision Videos from Real-World Accident ReportsXiangwen Zhang, Qian Zhang, Longfei Han et al.
Collecting real-world vehicle accident videos for autonomous driving research is challenging due to their rarity and complexity. While existing driving video generation methods may produce visually realistic videos, they often fail to deliver physically realistic simulations because they lack the capability to generate accurate post-collision trajectories. In this paper, we introduce AccidentSim, a novel framework that generates physically realistic vehicle collision videos by extracting and utilizing the physical clues and contextual information available in real-world vehicle accident reports. Specifically, AccidentSim leverages a reliable physical simulator to replicate post-collision vehicle trajectories from the physical and contextual information in the accident reports and to build a vehicle collision trajectory dataset. This dataset is then used to fine-tune a language model, enabling it to respond to user prompts and predict physically consistent post-collision trajectories across various driving scenarios based on user descriptions. Finally, we employ Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) to render high-quality backgrounds, merging them with the foreground vehicles that exhibit physically realistic trajectories to generate vehicle collision videos. Experimental results demonstrate that the videos produced by AccidentSim excel in both visual and physical authenticity.

NVS-SQA: Exploring Self-Supervised Quality Representation Learning for Neurally Synthesized Scenes without ReferencesQiang Qu, Yiran Shen, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Neural View Synthesis (NVS), such as NeRF and 3D Gaussian Splatting, effectively creates photorealistic scenes from sparse viewpoints, typically evaluated by quality assessment methods like PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS. However, these full-reference methods, which compare synthesized views to reference views, may not fully capture the perceptual quality of neurally synthesized scenes (NSS), particularly due to the limited availability of dense reference views. Furthermore, the challenges in acquiring human perceptual labels hinder the creation of extensive labeled datasets, risking model overfitting and reduced generalizability. To address these issues, we propose NVS-SQA, a NSS quality assessment method to learn no-reference quality representations through self-supervision without reliance on human labels. Traditional self-supervised learning predominantly relies on the "same instance, similar representation" assumption and extensive datasets. However, given that these conditions do not apply in NSS quality assessment, we employ heuristic cues and quality scores as learning objectives, along with a specialized contrastive pair preparation process to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of learning. The results show that NVS-SQA outperforms 17 no-reference methods by a large margin (i.e., on average 109.5% in SRCC, 98.6% in PLCC, and 91.5% in KRCC over the second best) and even exceeds 16 full-reference methods across all evaluation metrics (i.e., 22.9% in SRCC, 19.1% in PLCC, and 18.6% in KRCC over the second best).

AMMNet: An Asymmetric Multi-Modal Network for Remote Sensing Semantic SegmentationHui Ye, Haodong Chen, Zeke Zexi Hu et al.
Semantic segmentation in remote sensing (RS) has advanced significantly with the incorporation of multi-modal data, particularly the integration of RGB imagery and the Digital Surface Model (DSM), which provides complementary contextual and structural information about the ground object. However, integrating RGB and DSM often faces two major limitations: increased computational complexity due to architectural redundancy, and degraded segmentation performance caused by modality misalignment. These issues undermine the efficiency and robustness of semantic segmentation, particularly in complex urban environments where precise multi-modal integration is essential. To overcome these limitations, we propose Asymmetric Multi-Modal Network (AMMNet), a novel asymmetric architecture that achieves robust and efficient semantic segmentation through three designs tailored for RGB-DSM input pairs. To reduce architectural redundancy, the Asymmetric Dual Encoder (ADE) module assigns representational capacity based on modality-specific characteristics, employing a deeper encoder for RGB imagery to capture rich contextual information and a lightweight encoder for DSM to extract sparse structural features. Besides, to facilitate modality alignment, the Asymmetric Prior Fuser (APF) integrates a modality-aware prior matrix into the fusion process, enabling the generation of structure-aware contextual features. Additionally, the Distribution Alignment (DA) module enhances cross-modal compatibility by aligning feature distributions through divergence minimization. Extensive experiments on the ISPRS Vaihingen and Potsdam datasets demonstrate that AMMNet attains state-of-the-art segmentation accuracy among multi-modal networks while reducing computational and memory requirements.

Bridging Physical and Digital Worlds: Embodied Large AI for Future Wireless SystemsXinquan Wang, Fenghao Zhu, Zhaohui Yang et al.
Large artificial intelligence (AI) models offer revolutionary potential for future wireless systems, promising unprecedented capabilities in network optimization and performance. However, current paradigms largely overlook crucial physical interactions. This oversight means they primarily rely on offline datasets, leading to difficulties in handling real-time wireless dynamics and non-stationary environments. Furthermore, these models often lack the capability for active environmental probing. This paper proposes a fundamental paradigm shift towards wireless embodied large AI (WELAI), moving from passive observation to active embodiment. We first identify key challenges faced by existing models, then we explore the design principles and system structure of WELAI. Besides, we outline prospective applications in next-generation wireless. Finally, through an illustrative case study, we demonstrate the effectiveness of WELAI and point out promising research directions for realizing adaptive, robust, and autonomous wireless systems.

MGDFIS: Multi-scale Global-detail Feature Integration Strategy for Small Object DetectionYuxiang Wang, Xuecheng Bai, Boyu Hu et al.
Small object detection in UAV imagery is crucial for applications such as search-and-rescue, traffic monitoring, and environmental surveillance, but it is hampered by tiny object size, low signal-to-noise ratios, and limited feature extraction. Existing multi-scale fusion methods help, but add computational burden and blur fine details, making small object detection in cluttered scenes difficult. To overcome these challenges, we propose the Multi-scale Global-detail Feature Integration Strategy (MGDFIS), a unified fusion framework that tightly couples global context with local detail to boost detection performance while maintaining efficiency. MGDFIS comprises three synergistic modules: the FusionLock-TSS Attention Module, which marries token-statistics self-attention with DynamicTanh normalization to highlight spectral and spatial cues at minimal cost; the Global-detail Integration Module, which fuses multi-scale context via directional convolution and parallel attention while preserving subtle shape and texture variations; and the Dynamic Pixel Attention Module, which generates pixel-wise weighting maps to rebalance uneven foreground and background distributions and sharpen responses to true object regions. Extensive experiments on the VisDrone benchmark demonstrate that MGDFIS consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods across diverse backbone architectures and detection frameworks, achieving superior precision and recall with low inference time. By striking an optimal balance between accuracy and resource usage, MGDFIS provides a practical solution for small-object detection on resource-constrained UAV platforms.

Adaptively Augmented Consistency Learning: A Semi-supervised Segmentation Framework for Remote SensingHui Ye, Haodong Chen, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Remote sensing (RS) involves the acquisition of data about objects or areas from a distance, primarily to monitor environmental changes, manage resources, and support planning and disaster response. A significant challenge in RS segmentation is the scarcity of high-quality labeled images due to the diversity and complexity of RS image, which makes pixel-level annotation difficult and hinders the development of effective supervised segmentation algorithms. To solve this problem, we propose Adaptively Augmented Consistency Learning (AACL), a semi-supervised segmentation framework designed to enhances RS segmentation accuracy under condictions of limited labeled data. AACL extracts additional information embedded in unlabeled images through the use of Uniform Strength Augmentation (USAug) and Adaptive Cut-Mix (AdaCM). Evaluations across various RS datasets demonstrate that AACL achieves competitive performance in semi-supervised segmentation, showing up to a 20% improvement in specific categories and 2% increase in overall performance compared to state-of-the-art frameworks.

De novo molecule generation allows the search for more drug-like hits across a vast chemical space. However, lead optimization is still required, and the process of optimizing molecular structures faces the challenge of balancing structural novelty with pharmacological properties. This study introduces the Deep Genetic Molecular Modification Algorithm (DGMM), which brings structure modification to the level of medicinal chemists. A discrete variational autoencoder (D-VAE) is used in DGMM to encode molecules as quantization code, mol-gene, which incorporates deep learning into genetic algorithms for flexible structural optimization. The mol-gene allows for the discovery of pharmacologically similar but structurally distinct compounds, and reveals the trade-offs of structural optimization in drug discovery. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the DGMM in several applications.

E2HQV: High-Quality Video Generation from Event Camera via Theory-Inspired Model-Aided Deep LearningQiang Qu, Yiran Shen, Xiaoming Chen et al.
The bio-inspired event cameras or dynamic vision sensors are capable of asynchronously capturing per-pixel brightness changes (called event-streams) in high temporal resolution and high dynamic range. However, the non-structural spatial-temporal event-streams make it challenging for providing intuitive visualization with rich semantic information for human vision. It calls for events-to-video (E2V) solutions which take event-streams as input and generate high quality video frames for intuitive visualization. However, current solutions are predominantly data-driven without considering the prior knowledge of the underlying statistics relating event-streams and video frames. It highly relies on the non-linearity and generalization capability of the deep neural networks, thus, is struggling on reconstructing detailed textures when the scenes are complex. In this work, we propose \textbf{E2HQV}, a novel E2V paradigm designed to produce high-quality video frames from events. This approach leverages a model-aided deep learning framework, underpinned by a theory-inspired E2V model, which is meticulously derived from the fundamental imaging principles of event cameras. To deal with the issue of state-reset in the recurrent components of E2HQV, we also design a temporal shift embedding module to further improve the quality of the video frames. Comprehensive evaluations on the real world event camera datasets validate our approach, with E2HQV, notably outperforming state-of-the-art approaches, e.g., surpassing the second best by over 40\% for some evaluation metrics.

Dense Voxel 3D Reconstruction Using a Monocular Event CameraHaodong Chen, Vera Chung, Li Tan et al.
Event cameras are sensors inspired by biological systems that specialize in capturing changes in brightness. These emerging cameras offer many advantages over conventional frame-based cameras, including high dynamic range, high frame rates, and extremely low power consumption. Due to these advantages, event cameras have increasingly been adapted in various fields, such as frame interpolation, semantic segmentation, odometry, and SLAM. However, their application in 3D reconstruction for VR applications is underexplored. Previous methods in this field mainly focused on 3D reconstruction through depth map estimation. Methods that produce dense 3D reconstruction generally require multiple cameras, while methods that utilize a single event camera can only produce a semi-dense result. Other single-camera methods that can produce dense 3D reconstruction rely on creating a pipeline that either incorporates the aforementioned methods or other existing Structure from Motion (SfM) or Multi-view Stereo (MVS) methods. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for solving dense 3D reconstruction using only a single event camera. To the best of our knowledge, our work is the first attempt in this regard. Our preliminary results demonstrate that the proposed method can produce visually distinguishable dense 3D reconstructions directly without requiring pipelines like those used by existing methods. Additionally, we have created a synthetic dataset with $39,739$ object scans using an event camera simulator. This dataset will help accelerate other relevant research in this field.

Texture-enhanced Light Field Super-resolution with Spatio-Angular Decomposition KernelsZexi Hu, Xiaoming Chen, Henry Wing Fung Yeung et al.
Despite the recent progress in light field super-resolution (LFSR) achieved by convolutional neural networks, the correlation information of light field (LF) images has not been sufficiently studied and exploited due to the complexity of 4D LF data. To cope with such high-dimensional LF data, most of the existing LFSR methods resorted to decomposing it into lower dimensions and subsequently performing optimization on the decomposed sub-spaces. However, these methods are inherently limited as they neglected the characteristics of the decomposition operations and only utilized a limited set of LF sub-spaces ending up failing to sufficiently extract spatio-angular features and leading to a performance bottleneck. To overcome these limitations, in this paper, we comprehensively discover the potentials of LF decomposition and propose a novel concept of decomposition kernels. In particular, we systematically unify the decomposition operations of various sub-spaces into a series of such decomposition kernels, which are incorporated into our proposed Decomposition Kernel Network (DKNet) for comprehensive spatio-angular feature extraction. The proposed DKNet is experimentally verified to achieve considerable improvements compared with the state-of-the-art methods. To further improve DKNet in producing more visually pleasing LFSR results, based on the VGG network, we propose a LFVGG loss to guide the Texture-Enhanced DKNet (TE-DKNet) to generate rich authentic textures and enhance LF images' visual quality significantly. We also propose an indirect evaluation metric by taking advantage of LF material recognition to objectively assess the perceptual enhancement brought by the LFVGG loss.

Efficient Light Field Reconstruction via Spatio-Angular Dense NetworkZexi Hu, Henry Wing Fung Yeung, Xiaoming Chen et al.
As an image sensing instrument, light field images can supply extra angular information compared with monocular images and have facilitated a wide range of measurement applications. Light field image capturing devices usually suffer from the inherent trade-off between the angular and spatial resolutions. To tackle this problem, several methods, such as light field reconstruction and light field super-resolution, have been proposed but leaving two problems unaddressed, namely domain asymmetry and efficient information flow. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end Spatio-Angular Dense Network (SADenseNet) for light field reconstruction with two novel components, namely correlation blocks and spatio-angular dense skip connections to address them. The former performs effective modeling of the correlation information in a way that conforms with the domain asymmetry. And the latter consists of three kinds of connections enhancing the information flow within two domains. Extensive experiments on both real-world and synthetic datasets have been conducted to demonstrate that the proposed SADenseNet's state-of-the-art performance at significantly reduced costs in memory and computation. The qualitative results show that the reconstructed light field images are sharp with correct details and can serve as pre-processing to improve the accuracy of related measurement applications.

Distributed ADMM with Synergetic Communication and ComputationZhuojun Tian, Zhaoyang Zhang, Jue Wang et al.
In this paper, we propose a novel distributed alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm with synergetic communication and computation, called SCCD-ADMM, to reduce the total communication and computation cost of the system. Explicitly, in the proposed algorithm, each node interacts with only part of its neighboring nodes, the number of which is progressively determined according to a heuristic searching procedure, which takes into account both the predicted convergence rate and the communication and computation costs at each iteration, resulting in a trade-off between communication and computation. Then the node chooses its neighboring nodes according to an importance sampling distribution derived theoretically to minimize the variance with the latest information it locally stores. Finally, the node updates its local information with a new update rule which adapts to the number of communication nodes. We prove the convergence of the proposed algorithm and provide an upper bound of the convergence variance brought by randomness. Extensive simulations validate the excellent performances of the proposed algorithm in terms of convergence rate and variance, the overall communication and computation cost, the impact of network topology as well as the time for evaluation, in comparison with the traditional counterparts.

Sequential Reinforced 360-Degree Video Adaptive Streaming with Cross-user Attentive NetworkJun Fu, Zhibo Chen, Xiaoming Chen et al.
In the tile-based 360-degree video streaming, predicting user's future viewpoints and developing adaptive bitrate (ABR) algorithms are essential for optimizing user's quality of experience (QoE). Traditional single-user based viewpoint prediction methods fail to achieve good performance in long-term prediction, and the recently proposed reinforcement learning (RL) based ABR schemes applied in traditional video streaming can not be directly applied in the tile-based 360-degree video streaming due to the exponential action space. Therefore, we propose a sequential reinforced 360-degree video streaming scheme with cross-user attentive network. Firstly, considering different users may have the similar viewing preference on the same video, we propose a cross-user attentive network (CUAN), boosting the performance of long-term viewpoint prediction by selectively utilizing cross-user information. Secondly, we propose a sequential RL-based (360SRL) ABR approach, transforming action space size of each decision step from exponential to linear via introducing a sequential decision structure. We evaluate the proposed CUAN and 360SRL using trace-driven experiments and experimental results demonstrate that CUAN and 360SRL outperform existing viewpoint prediction and ABR approaches with a noticeable margin.

FTT-NAS: Discovering Fault-Tolerant Convolutional Neural ArchitectureXuefei Ning, Guangjun Ge, Wenshuo Li et al.
With the fast evolvement of embedded deep-learning computing systems, applications powered by deep learning are moving from the cloud to the edge. When deploying neural networks (NNs) onto the devices under complex environments, there are various types of possible faults: soft errors caused by cosmic radiation and radioactive impurities, voltage instability, aging, temperature variations, and malicious attackers. Thus the safety risk of deploying NNs is now drawing much attention. In this paper, after the analysis of the possible faults in various types of NN accelerators, we formalize and implement various fault models from the algorithmic perspective. We propose Fault-Tolerant Neural Architecture Search (FT-NAS) to automatically discover convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures that are reliable to various faults in nowadays devices. Then we incorporate fault-tolerant training (FTT) in the search process to achieve better results, which is referred to as FTT-NAS. Experiments on CIFAR-10 show that the discovered architectures outperform other manually designed baseline architectures significantly, with comparable or fewer floating-point operations (FLOPs) and parameters. Specifically, with the same fault settings, F-FTT-Net discovered under the feature fault model achieves an accuracy of 86.2% (VS. 68.1% achieved by MobileNet-V2), and W-FTT-Net discovered under the weight fault model achieves an accuracy of 69.6% (VS. 60.8% achieved by ResNet-20). By inspecting the discovered architectures, we find that the operation primitives, the weight quantization range, the capacity of the model, and the connection pattern have influences on the fault resilience capability of NN models.

We propose an end-to-end model to predict drug-drug interactions (DDIs) by employing graph-augmented convolutional networks. And this is implemented by combining graph CNN with an attentive pooling network to extract structural relations between drug pairs and make DDI predictions. The experiment results suggest a desirable performance achieving ROC at 0.988, F1-score at 0.956, and AUPR at 0.986. Besides, the model can tell how the two DDI drugs interact structurally by varying colored atoms. And this may be helpful for drug design during drug discovery.

The braid group is an important non commutative group, at the same time, it is an important tool in quantum field theory with better topological structure, and often used as a research carrier for anti-quantum cryptographic algorithms. This paper proposed a difficult problem on a positive braid semi-group, and proved that the difficulty is not lower than the conjugate search problem. Based on this new difficult problem, we propose a new cryptosystem, which include a key exchange protocol and a public key encryption algorithm. Since our cryptosystem is implemented on a semi-group, it effectively avoids the analysis of attack algorithms on the cluster and makes our algorithm more secure.

We propose a new computational problem over the noncommutative group, called the twin conjugacy search problem. This problem is related to the conjugacy search problem and can be used for almost all of the same cryptographic constructions that are based on the conjugacy search problem. However, our new problem is at least hard as the conjugacy search problem. Moreover, the twin conjugacy search problem have many applications. One of the most important applications, we propose a trapdoor test which can replace the function of the decision oracle. We also show other applications of the problem, including: a non-interactive key exchange protocol and a key exchange protocol, a new encryption scheme which is secure against chosen ciphertext attack, with a very simple and tight security proof and short ciphertexts, under a weak assumption, in the random oracle model.

Braid group is a very important non-commutative group. It is also an important tool of quantum field theory, and has good topological properties. This paper focuses on the provable security research of cryptosystem over braid group, which consists of two aspects: One, we proved that the Ko's cryptosystem based on braid group is secure against chosen-plaintext-attack(CPA) which proposed in CRYPTO2000, while it dose not resist active attack. The other is to propose a new public key cryptosystem over braid group which is secure against adaptive chosen-ciphertext-attack(CCA2). Our proofs are based on random oracle models, under the computational conjugacy search assumption( the CCS assumption ). This kind of results have never been seen before.

Deploy Large-Scale Deep Neural Networks in Resource Constrained IoT Devices with Local Quantization RegionYi Yang, Andy Chen, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Implementing large-scale deep neural networks with high computational complexity on low-cost IoT devices may inevitably be constrained by limited computation resource, making the devices hard to respond in real-time. This disjunction makes the state-of-art deep learning algorithms, i.e. CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks), incompatible with IoT world. We present a low-bit (range from 8-bit to 1-bit) scheme with our local quantization region algorithm. We use models in Caffe model zoo as our example tasks to evaluate the effect of our low precision data representation scheme. With the available of local quantization region, we find implementations on top of those schemes could greatly retain the model accuracy, besides the reduction of computational complexity. For example, our 8-bit scheme has no drops on top-1 and top-5 accuracy with 2x speedup on Intel Edison IoT platform. Implementations based on our 4-bit, 2-bit or 1-bit scheme are also applicable to IoT devices with advances of low computational complexity. For example, the drop on our task is only 0.7% when using 2-bit scheme, a scheme which could largely save transistors. Making low-bit scheme usable here opens a new door for further optimization on commodity IoT controller, i.e. extra speed-up could be achieved by replacing multiply-accumulate operations with the proposed table look-up operations. The whole study offers a new approach to relief the challenge of bring advanced deep learning algorithm to resource constrained low-cost IoT device.

A Deep Learning Approach for Blind Drift Calibration of Sensor NetworksYuzhi Wang, Anqi Yang, Xiaoming Chen et al.
Temporal drift of sensory data is a severe problem impacting the data quality of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). With the proliferation of large-scale and long-term WSNs, it is becoming more important to calibrate sensors when the ground truth is unavailable. This problem is called "blind calibration". In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning method named projection-recovery network (PRNet) to blindly calibrate sensor measurements online. The PRNet first projects the drifted data to a feature space, and uses a powerful deep convolutional neural network to recover the estimated drift-free measurements. We deploy a 24-sensor testbed and provide comprehensive empirical evidence showing that the proposed method significantly improves the sensing accuracy and drifted sensor detection. Compared with previous methods, PRNet can calibrate 2x of drifted sensors at the recovery rate of 80% under the same level of accuracy requirement. We also provide helpful insights for designing deep neural networks for sensor calibration. We hope our proposed simple and effective approach will serve as a solid baseline in blind drift calibration of sensor networks.

Optimizing Memory Efficiency for Convolution Kernels on Kepler GPUsXiaoming Chen, Jianxu Chen, Danny Z. Chen et al.
Convolution is a fundamental operation in many applications, such as computer vision, natural language processing, image processing, etc. Recent successes of convolutional neural networks in various deep learning applications put even higher demand on fast convolution. The high computation throughput and memory bandwidth of graphics processing units (GPUs) make GPUs a natural choice for accelerating convolution operations. However, maximally exploiting the available memory bandwidth of GPUs for convolution is a challenging task. This paper introduces a general model to address the mismatch between the memory bank width of GPUs and computation data width of threads. Based on this model, we develop two convolution kernels, one for the general case and the other for a special case with one input channel. By carefully optimizing memory access patterns and computation patterns, we design a communication-optimized kernel for the special case and a communication-reduced kernel for the general case. Experimental data based on implementations on Kepler GPUs show that our kernels achieve 5.16X and 35.5% average performance improvement over the latest cuDNN library, for the special case and the general case, respectively.
