DoubleAUG: Single-domain Generalized Object Detector in Urban via Color Perturbation and Dual-style MemoryLei Qi, Peng Dong, Tan Xiong et al.
Object detection in urban scenarios is crucial for autonomous driving in intelligent traffic systems. However, unlike conventional object detection tasks, urban-scene images vary greatly in style. For example, images taken on sunny days differ significantly from those taken on rainy days. Therefore, models trained on sunny day images may not generalize well to rainy day images. In this paper, we aim to solve the single-domain generalizable object detection task in urban scenarios, meaning that a model trained on images from one weather condition should be able to perform well on images from any other weather conditions. To address this challenge, we propose a novel Double AUGmentation (DoubleAUG) method that includes image- and feature-level augmentation schemes. In the image-level augmentation, we consider the variation in color information across different weather conditions and propose a Color Perturbation (CP) method that randomly exchanges the RGB channels to generate various images. In the feature-level augmentation, we propose to utilize a Dual-Style Memory (DSM) to explore the diverse style information on the entire dataset, further enhancing the model's generalization capability. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Furthermore, ablation studies confirm the effectiveness of each module in our proposed method. Moreover, our method is plug-and-play and can be integrated into existing methods to further improve model performance.

Varuna: Enabling Failure-Type Aware RDMA FailoverXiaoyang Wang, Yongkun Li, Lulu Yao et al.
RDMA link failures can render connections temporarily unavailable, causing both performance degradation and significant recovery overhead. To tolerate such failures, production datacenters assign each primary link with a standby link and, upon failure, uniformly retransmit all in-flight RDMA request over the backup path. However, we observe that such blanket retransmission is unnecessary. In-flight requests can be split into pre-failure and post-failure categories depending on whether the responder has already executed. Retransmitting post-failure requests is not only redundant (consuming bandwidth), but also incorrect for non-idempotent operations, where duplicate execution can violate application semantics. We present Varuna, a failure-type-aware RDMA recovery mechanism that enables correct retransmission and us-level failover. Varuna piggybacks a lightweight completion log on every RDMA operation; after a link failure, this log deterministically reveals which in-flight requests were executed (post-failure) and which were lost (pre-failure). Varuna then retransmits only the pre-failure subset and fetches/recovers the return values for post-failure requests. Evaluated using synthetic microbenchmarks and end-to-end RDMA TPC-C transactions, Varuna incurs only 0.6-10% steady-state latency overhead in realistic applications, eliminates 65% of recovery retransmission time, preserves transactional consistency, and introduces zero connectivity rebuild overhead and negligible memory overhead during RDMA failover.

Automated radiotherapy treatment planning guided by GPT-4VisionSheng Liu, Oscar Pastor-Serrano, Yizheng Chen et al.
Objective: Radiotherapy treatment planning is a time-consuming and potentially subjective process that requires the iterative adjustment of model parameters to balance multiple conflicting objectives. Recent advancements in frontier Artificial Intelligence (AI) models offer promising avenues for addressing the challenges in planning and clinical decision-making. This study introduces GPT-RadPlan, an automated treatment planning framework that integrates radiation oncology knowledge with the reasoning capabilities of large multi-modal models, such as GPT-4Vision (GPT-4V) from OpenAI. Approach: Via in-context learning, we incorporate clinical requirements and a few (3 in our experiments) approved clinical plans with their optimization settings, enabling GPT-4V to acquire treatment planning domain knowledge. The resulting GPT-RadPlan system is integrated into our in-house inverse treatment planning system through an application programming interface (API). For a given patient, GPT-RadPlan acts as both plan evaluator and planner, first assessing dose distributions and dose-volume histograms (DVHs), and then providing textual feedback on how to improve the plan to match the physician's requirements. In this manner, GPT-RadPlan iteratively refines the plan by adjusting planning parameters, such as weights and dose objectives, based on its suggestions. Main results: The efficacy of the automated planning system is showcased across 17 prostate cancer and 13 head and neck cancer VMAT plans with prescribed doses of 70.2 Gy and 72 Gy, respectively, where we compared GPT-RadPlan results to clinical plans produced by human experts. In all cases, GPT-RadPlan either outperformed or matched the clinical plans, demonstrating superior target coverage and reducing organ-at-risk doses by 5 Gy on average (15 percent for prostate and 10-15 percent for head and neck).
