Choose Your Simulator Wisely: A Review on Open-source Simulators for Autonomous DrivingYueyuan Li, Wei Yuan, Songan Zhang et al.
Simulators play a crucial role in autonomous driving, offering significant time, cost, and labor savings. Over the past few years, the number of simulators for autonomous driving has grown substantially. However, there is a growing concern about the validity of algorithms developed and evaluated in simulators, indicating a need for a thorough analysis of the development status of the simulators. To bridge the gap in research, this paper analyzes the evolution of simulators and explains how the functionalities and utilities have developed. Then, the existing simulators are categorized based on their task applicability, providing researchers with a taxonomy to swiftly assess a simulator's suitability for specific tasks. Recommendations for select simulators are presented, considering factors such as accessibility, maintenance status, and quality. Recognizing potential hazards in simulators that could impact the confidence of simulation experiments, the paper dedicates substantial effort to identifying and justifying critical issues in actively maintained open-source simulators. Moreover, the paper reviews potential solutions to address these issues, serving as a guide for enhancing the credibility of simulators.

Tactics2D: A Highly Modular and Extensible Simulator for Driving Decision-makingYueyuan Li, Songan Zhang, Mingyang Jiang et al.
Simulation is a prospective method for generating diverse and realistic traffic scenarios to aid in the development of driving decision-making systems. However, existing simulators often fall short in diverse scenarios or interactive behavior models for traffic participants. This deficiency underscores the need for a flexible, reliable, user-friendly open-source simulator. Addressing this challenge, Tactics2D adopts a modular approach to traffic scenario construction, encompassing road elements, traffic regulations, behavior models, physics simulations for vehicles, and event detection mechanisms. By integrating numerous commonly utilized algorithms and configurations, Tactics2D empowers users to construct their driving scenarios effortlessly, just like assembling building blocks. Users can effectively evaluate the performance of driving decision-making models across various scenarios by leveraging both public datasets and user-collected real-world data. SS-ADA: A Semi-Supervised Active Domain Adaptation Framework for Semantic SegmentationWeihao Yan, Yeqiang Qian, Yueyuan Li et al.
Semantic segmentation plays an important role in intelligent vehicles, providing pixel-level semantic information about the environment. However, the labeling budget is expensive and time-consuming when semantic segmentation model is applied to new driving scenarios. To reduce the costs, semi-supervised semantic segmentation methods have been proposed to leverage large quantities of unlabeled images. Despite this, their performance still falls short of the accuracy required for practical applications, which is typically achieved by supervised learning. A significant shortcoming is that they typically select unlabeled images for annotation randomly, neglecting the assessment of sample value for model training. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-supervised active domain adaptation (SS-ADA) framework for semantic segmentation that employs an image-level acquisition strategy. SS-ADA integrates active learning into semi-supervised semantic segmentation to achieve the accuracy of supervised learning with a limited amount of labeled data from the target domain. Additionally, we design an IoU-based class weighting strategy to alleviate the class imbalance problem using annotations from active learning. We conducted extensive experiments on synthetic-to-real and real-to-real domain adaptation settings. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. SS-ADA can achieve or even surpass the accuracy of its supervised learning counterpart with only 25% of the target labeled data when using a real-time segmentation model. The code for SS-ADA is available at https://github.com/ywher/SS-ADA.

Unifying Discourse Resources with Dependency FrameworkYi Cheng, Sujian Li, Yueyuan Li
For text-level discourse analysis, there are various discourse schemes but relatively few labeled data, because discourse research is still immature and it is labor-intensive to annotate the inner logic of a text. In this paper, we attempt to unify multiple Chinese discourse corpora under different annotation schemes with discourse dependency framework by designing semi-automatic methods to convert them into dependency structures. We also implement several benchmark dependency parsers and research on how they can leverage the unified data to improve performance.

Learning Where to Look While Tracking Instruments in Robot-assisted SurgeryMobarakol Islam, Yueyuan Li, Hongliang Ren
Directing of the task-specific attention while tracking instrument in surgery holds great potential in robot-assisted intervention. For this purpose, we propose an end-to-end trainable multitask learning (MTL) model for real-time surgical instrument segmentation and attention prediction. Our model is designed with a weight-shared encoder and two task-oriented decoders and optimized for the joint tasks. We introduce batch-Wasserstein (bW) loss and construct a soft attention module to refine the distinctive visual region for efficient saliency learning. For multitask optimization, it is always challenging to obtain convergence of both tasks in the same epoch. We deal with this problem by adopting `poly' loss weight and two phases of training. We further propose a novel way to generate task-aware saliency map and scanpath of the instruments on MICCAI robotic instrument segmentation dataset. Compared to the state of the art segmentation and saliency models, our model outperforms most of the evaluation metrics.
