GLM-130B: An Open Bilingual Pre-trained ModelAohan Zeng, Xiao Liu, Zhengxiao Du et al. · tsinghua
We introduce GLM-130B, a bilingual (English and Chinese) pre-trained language model with 130 billion parameters. It is an attempt to open-source a 100B-scale model at least as good as GPT-3 (davinci) and unveil how models of such a scale can be successfully pre-trained. Over the course of this effort, we face numerous unexpected technical and engineering challenges, particularly on loss spikes and divergence. In this paper, we introduce the training process of GLM-130B including its design choices, training strategies for both efficiency and stability, and engineering efforts. The resultant GLM-130B model offers significant outperformance over GPT-3 175B (davinci) on a wide range of popular English benchmarks while the performance advantage is not observed in OPT-175B and BLOOM-176B. It also consistently and significantly outperforms ERNIE TITAN 3.0 260B -- the largest Chinese language model -- across related benchmarks. Finally, we leverage a unique scaling property of GLM-130B to reach INT4 quantization without post training, with almost no performance loss, making it the first among 100B-scale models and more importantly, allowing its effective inference on 4$\times$RTX 3090 (24G) or 8$\times$RTX 2080 Ti (11G) GPUs, the most affordable GPUs required for using 100B-scale models. WebGLM: Towards An Efficient Web-Enhanced Question Answering System with Human PreferencesXiao Liu, Hanyu Lai, Hao Yu et al. · tsinghua
We present WebGLM, a web-enhanced question-answering system based on the General Language Model (GLM). Its goal is to augment a pre-trained large language model (LLM) with web search and retrieval capabilities while being efficient for real-world deployments. To achieve this, we develop WebGLM with strategies for the LLM-augmented retriever, bootstrapped generator, and human preference-aware scorer. Specifically, we identify and address the limitations of WebGPT (OpenAI), through which WebGLM is enabled with accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness advantages. In addition, we propose systematic criteria for evaluating web-enhanced QA systems. We conduct multi-dimensional human evaluation and quantitative ablation studies, which suggest the outperformance of the proposed WebGLM designs over existing systems. WebGLM with the 10-billion-parameter GLM (10B) is shown to perform better than the similar-sized WebGPT (13B) and even comparably to WebGPT (175B) in human evaluation. Parameter-free Dynamic Graph Embedding for Link PredictionJiahao Liu, Dongsheng Li, Hansu Gu et al.
Dynamic interaction graphs have been widely adopted to model the evolution of user-item interactions over time. There are two crucial factors when modelling user preferences for link prediction in dynamic interaction graphs: 1) collaborative relationship among users and 2) user personalized interaction patterns. Existing methods often implicitly consider these two factors together, which may lead to noisy user modelling when the two factors diverge. In addition, they usually require time-consuming parameter learning with back-propagation, which is prohibitive for real-time user preference modelling. To this end, this paper proposes FreeGEM, a parameter-free dynamic graph embedding method for link prediction. Firstly, to take advantage of the collaborative relationships, we propose an incremental graph embedding engine to obtain user/item embeddings, which is an Online-Monitor-Offline architecture consisting of an Online module to approximately embed users/items over time, a Monitor module to estimate the approximation error in real time and an Offline module to calibrate the user/item embeddings when the online approximation errors exceed a threshold. Meanwhile, we integrate attribute information into the model, which enables FreeGEM to better model users belonging to some under represented groups. Secondly, we design a personalized dynamic interaction pattern modeller, which combines dynamic time decay with attention mechanism to model user short-term interests. Experimental results on two link prediction tasks show that FreeGEM can outperform the state-of-the-art methods in accuracy while achieving over 36X improvement in efficiency. Information Retrieval Meets Large Language Models: A Strategic Report from Chinese IR CommunityQingyao Ai, Ting Bai, Zhao Cao et al. · pku, tsinghua
The research field of Information Retrieval (IR) has evolved significantly, expanding beyond traditional search to meet diverse user information needs. Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated exceptional capabilities in text understanding, generation, and knowledge inference, opening up exciting avenues for IR research. LLMs not only facilitate generative retrieval but also offer improved solutions for user understanding, model evaluation, and user-system interactions. More importantly, the synergistic relationship among IR models, LLMs, and humans forms a new technical paradigm that is more powerful for information seeking. IR models provide real-time and relevant information, LLMs contribute internal knowledge, and humans play a central role of demanders and evaluators to the reliability of information services. Nevertheless, significant challenges exist, including computational costs, credibility concerns, domain-specific limitations, and ethical considerations. To thoroughly discuss the transformative impact of LLMs on IR research, the Chinese IR community conducted a strategic workshop in April 2023, yielding valuable insights. This paper provides a summary of the workshop's outcomes, including the rethinking of IR's core values, the mutual enhancement of LLMs and IR, the proposal of a novel IR technical paradigm, and open challenges.

CogVLM2: Visual Language Models for Image and Video UnderstandingWenyi Hong, Weihan Wang, Ming Ding et al.
Beginning with VisualGLM and CogVLM, we are continuously exploring VLMs in pursuit of enhanced vision-language fusion, efficient higher-resolution architecture, and broader modalities and applications. Here we propose the CogVLM2 family, a new generation of visual language models for image and video understanding including CogVLM2, CogVLM2-Video and GLM-4V. As an image understanding model, CogVLM2 inherits the visual expert architecture with improved training recipes in both pre-training and post-training stages, supporting input resolution up to $1344 \times 1344$ pixels. As a video understanding model, CogVLM2-Video integrates multi-frame input with timestamps and proposes automated temporal grounding data construction. Notably, CogVLM2 family has achieved state-of-the-art results on benchmarks like MMBench, MM-Vet, TextVQA, MVBench and VCGBench. Hypergraph Convolutional Network based Weakly Supervised Point Cloud Semantic Segmentation with Scene-Level AnnotationsZhuheng Lu, Peng Zhang, Yuewei Dai et al.
Point cloud segmentation with scene-level annotations is a promising but challenging task. Currently, the most popular way is to employ the class activation map (CAM) to locate discriminative regions and then generate point-level pseudo labels from scene-level annotations. However, these methods always suffer from the point imbalance among categories, as well as the sparse and incomplete supervision from CAM. In this paper, we propose a novel weighted hypergraph convolutional network-based method, called WHCN, to confront the challenges of learning point-wise labels from scene-level annotations. Firstly, in order to simultaneously overcome the point imbalance among different categories and reduce the model complexity, superpoints of a training point cloud are generated by exploiting the geometrically homogeneous partition. Then, a hypergraph is constructed based on the high-confidence superpoint-level seeds which are converted from scene-level annotations. Secondly, the WHCN takes the hypergraph as input and learns to predict high-precision point-level pseudo labels by label propagation. Besides the backbone network consisting of spectral hypergraph convolution blocks, a hyperedge attention module is learned to adjust the weights of hyperedges in the WHCN. Finally, a segmentation network is trained by these pseudo point cloud labels. We comprehensively conduct experiments on the ScanNet and S3DIS segmentation datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed WHCN is effective to predict the point labels with scene annotations, and yields state-of-the-art results in the community. AbstainGNN: Teaching Graph Neural Networks to Abstain for Graph ClassificationXixun Lin, Zhiheng Zhou, Zhengyin Zhang et al.
Graph classification is a core task in graph data mining with widespread real-world applications. Recent advances in graph neural networks (GNNs) have led to substantial performance improvements for graph classification. However, existing GNNs are typically forced to make predictions even under high uncertainty or unknown conditions, resulting in unreliable decisions that can severely impact downstream tasks, particularly in safety-critical scenarios. To address this critical limitation, we propose AbstainGNN, a novel and theory-driven framework for graph classification with abstention, which enables GNNs to reject uncertain predictions instead of producing incorrect decisions. Specifically, AbstainGNN explicitly models both the predictive function and the abstention function, allowing for effective utilization of graph structural information. Moreover, unlike existing heuristic abstention methods, we theoretically characterize the trade-off between classification errors and rejection costs from a PAC-Bayesian generalization perspective, and derive a unified learning objective for model optimization. Guided by this theoretical insight, we further develop an efficient two-stage training strategy consisting of predictive function warm-start and abstention function calibration. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets show that AbstainGNN outperforms existing abstention methods, achieving superior classification performance under the same rejection rates.

V2I Work Zone Geometry Reconstruction with Pose-Conditioned UWB Range DenoisingJiaxi Liu, Hangyu Li, Yang Cheng et al.
Reliable work zone mapping is important for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) to navigate safely and smoothly through work zone areas. Cone-mounted ultra-wideband (UWB) roadside units (RSU) offer a cost-effective way for work zone layout inference, as roadside anchors and vehicle tags provide direct vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) range constraints for work zone geometry reconstruction. However, UWB range estimation is degraded by bursty outliers, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) errors, arbitrary anchor-ordering issues, and vehicle pose uncertainties in practical field deployments. To address these challenges, this study proposes a pose-conditioned, permutation-equivariant predictive denoiser for multi-anchor UWB ranging. The model employs shared anchor-wise temporal prediction to capture range dynamics, symmetric set aggregation to handle unordered and missing anchors, and pose-conditioned residual decoding to incorporate vehicle motion as a geometric prior. A two-stage training strategy first learns prediction from observed ranges, and then fine-tunes the denoiser with NLOS-weighted supervision. The method is evaluated on rare real-world V2I UWB field data collected with a CAV, as well as on controlled large-scale simulation benchmarks for ablative insights. Results show that the proposed method substantially improves range accuracy, cone localization, and work zone geometry reconstruction in challenging NLOS-dominated regimes, remains robust to anchor re-indexing and moderate anchor dropout, and reduces measurement-weighted field MSE by 66.9% relative to the raw input.

Improving Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation with Dual-Level Siamese Structure NetworkZhibo Tain, Xiaolin Zhang, Peng Zhang et al.
Semi-supervised semantic segmentation (SSS) is an important task that utilizes both labeled and unlabeled data to reduce expenses on labeling training examples. However, the effectiveness of SSS algorithms is limited by the difficulty of fully exploiting the potential of unlabeled data. To address this, we propose a dual-level Siamese structure network (DSSN) for pixel-wise contrastive learning. By aligning positive pairs with a pixel-wise contrastive loss using strong augmented views in both low-level image space and high-level feature space, the proposed DSSN is designed to maximize the utilization of available unlabeled data. Additionally, we introduce a novel class-aware pseudo-label selection strategy for weak-to-strong supervision, which addresses the limitations of most existing methods that do not perform selection or apply a predefined threshold for all classes. Specifically, our strategy selects the top high-confidence prediction of the weak view for each class to generate pseudo labels that supervise the strong augmented views. This strategy is capable of taking into account the class imbalance and improving the performance of long-tailed classes. Our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art results on two datasets, PASCAL VOC 2012 and Cityscapes, outperforming other SSS algorithms by a significant margin. Denevil: Towards Deciphering and Navigating the Ethical Values of Large Language Models via Instruction LearningShitong Duan, Xiaoyuan Yi, Peng Zhang et al.
Large Language Models (LLMs) have made unprecedented breakthroughs, yet their increasing integration into everyday life might raise societal risks due to generated unethical content. Despite extensive study on specific issues like bias, the intrinsic values of LLMs remain largely unexplored from a moral philosophy perspective. This work delves into ethical values utilizing Moral Foundation Theory. Moving beyond conventional discriminative evaluations with poor reliability, we propose DeNEVIL, a novel prompt generation algorithm tailored to dynamically exploit LLMs' value vulnerabilities and elicit the violation of ethics in a generative manner, revealing their underlying value inclinations. On such a basis, we construct MoralPrompt, a high-quality dataset comprising 2,397 prompts covering 500+ value principles, and then benchmark the intrinsic values across a spectrum of LLMs. We discovered that most models are essentially misaligned, necessitating further ethical value alignment. In response, we develop VILMO, an in-context alignment method that substantially enhances the value compliance of LLM outputs by learning to generate appropriate value instructions, outperforming existing competitors. Our methods are suitable for black-box and open-source models, offering a promising initial step in studying the ethical values of LLMs.

CL4CTR: A Contrastive Learning Framework for CTR PredictionFangye Wang, Yingxu Wang, Dongsheng Li et al.
Many Click-Through Rate (CTR) prediction works focused on designing advanced architectures to model complex feature interactions but neglected the importance of feature representation learning, e.g., adopting a plain embedding layer for each feature, which results in sub-optimal feature representations and thus inferior CTR prediction performance. For instance, low frequency features, which account for the majority of features in many CTR tasks, are less considered in standard supervised learning settings, leading to sub-optimal feature representations. In this paper, we introduce self-supervised learning to produce high-quality feature representations directly and propose a model-agnostic Contrastive Learning for CTR (CL4CTR) framework consisting of three self-supervised learning signals to regularize the feature representation learning: contrastive loss, feature alignment, and field uniformity. The contrastive module first constructs positive feature pairs by data augmentation and then minimizes the distance between the representations of each positive feature pair by the contrastive loss. The feature alignment constraint forces the representations of features from the same field to be close, and the field uniformity constraint forces the representations of features from different fields to be distant. Extensive experiments verify that CL4CTR achieves the best performance on four datasets and has excellent effectiveness and compatibility with various representative baselines.

Induction Network: Audio-Visual Modality Gap-Bridging for Self-Supervised Sound Source LocalizationTianyu Liu, Peng Zhang, Wei Huang et al.
Self-supervised sound source localization is usually challenged by the modality inconsistency. In recent studies, contrastive learning based strategies have shown promising to establish such a consistent correspondence between audio and sound sources in visual scenarios. Unfortunately, the insufficient attention to the heterogeneity influence in the different modality features still limits this scheme to be further improved, which also becomes the motivation of our work. In this study, an Induction Network is proposed to bridge the modality gap more effectively. By decoupling the gradients of visual and audio modalities, the discriminative visual representations of sound sources can be learned with the designed Induction Vector in a bootstrap manner, which also enables the audio modality to be aligned with the visual modality consistently. In addition to a visual weighted contrastive loss, an adaptive threshold selection strategy is introduced to enhance the robustness of the Induction Network. Substantial experiments conducted on SoundNet-Flickr and VGG-Sound Source datasets have demonstrated a superior performance compared to other state-of-the-art works in different challenging scenarios. Reinforcement Learning (RL)-based control system has received considerable attention in recent decades. However, in many real-world problems, such as Batch Process Control, the environment is uncertain, which requires expensive interaction to acquire the state and reward values. In this paper, we present a cost-efficient framework, such that the RL model can evolve for itself in a Virtual Space using the predictive models with only historical data. The proposed framework enables a step-by-step RL model to predict the future state and select optimal actions for long-sight decisions. The main focuses are summarized as: 1) how to balance the long-sight and short-sight rewards with an optimal strategy; 2) how to make the virtual model interacting with real environment to converge to a final learning policy. Under the experimental settings of Fed-Batch Process, our method consistently outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods.

Focus, Distinguish, and Prompt: Unleashing CLIP for Efficient and Flexible Scene Text RetrievalGangyan Zeng, Yuan Zhang, Jin Wei et al.
Scene text retrieval aims to find all images containing the query text from an image gallery. Current efforts tend to adopt an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) pipeline, which requires complicated text detection and/or recognition processes, resulting in inefficient and inflexible retrieval. Different from them, in this work we propose to explore the intrinsic potential of Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) for OCR-free scene text retrieval. Through empirical analysis, we observe that the main challenges of CLIP as a text retriever are: 1) limited text perceptual scale, and 2) entangled visual-semantic concepts. To this end, a novel model termed FDP (Focus, Distinguish, and Prompt) is developed. FDP first focuses on scene text via shifting the attention to the text area and probing the hidden text knowledge, and then divides the query text into content word and function word for processing, in which a semantic-aware prompting scheme and a distracted queries assistance module are utilized. Extensive experiments show that FDP significantly enhances the inference speed while achieving better or competitive retrieval accuracy compared to existing methods. Notably, on the IIIT-STR benchmark, FDP surpasses the state-of-the-art model by 4.37% with a 4 times faster speed. Furthermore, additional experiments under phrase-level and attribute-aware scene text retrieval settings validate FDP's particular advantages in handling diverse forms of query text. NovPhy: A Testbed for Physical Reasoning in Open-world EnvironmentsChathura Gamage, Vimukthini Pinto, Cheng Xue et al.
Due to the emergence of AI systems that interact with the physical environment, there is an increased interest in incorporating physical reasoning capabilities into those AI systems. But is it enough to only have physical reasoning capabilities to operate in a real physical environment? In the real world, we constantly face novel situations we have not encountered before. As humans, we are competent at successfully adapting to those situations. Similarly, an agent needs to have the ability to function under the impact of novelties in order to properly operate in an open-world physical environment. To facilitate the development of such AI systems, we propose a new testbed, NovPhy, that requires an agent to reason about physical scenarios in the presence of novelties and take actions accordingly. The testbed consists of tasks that require agents to detect and adapt to novelties in physical scenarios. To create tasks in the testbed, we develop eight novelties representing a diverse novelty space and apply them to five commonly encountered scenarios in a physical environment. According to our testbed design, we evaluate two capabilities of an agent: the performance on a novelty when it is applied to different physical scenarios and the performance on a physical scenario when different novelties are applied to it. We conduct a thorough evaluation with human players, learning agents, and heuristic agents. Our evaluation shows that humans' performance is far beyond the agents' performance. Some agents, even with good normal task performance, perform significantly worse when there is a novelty, and the agents that can adapt to novelties typically adapt slower than humans. DynFrame: Adaptive Reasoning-Driven Multimodal Framework with Dynamic Frame Augmentation for Complex Video UnderstandingPeng Zhang, Guanghao Zhang, Wanggui He et al.
Recent video multimodal large language models (MLLMs) increasingly couple step-by-step reasoning with on-demand visual evidence retrieval, allowing models to revisit relevant video segments during inference. However, two structural gaps remain in existing thinking-with-video systems. (i) Sampling density is not a learnable decision: existing methods may let the model decide where to look, but the per-window frame rate is largely fixed. As a result, fine-grained evidence is often recovered through repeated retrieval calls, which increases inference context length and training difficulty. (ii) Retrieval and answer generation are usually optimized with a single trajectory-level advantage, so the "where to look" tokens and the "how to answer" tokens receive the same credit even when one is correct and the other is not. To address these gaps, we present DynFrame, a framework that emits the temporal window and the sampling density as native tokens within a single autoregressive pass. This learnable span-density retrieval enables acquiring multi-granularity evidence with a single retrieval step. Based on the above tokenized retrieval interface, we further introduce Segment-Decoupled GRPO (SD-GRPO), which splits each rollout at the retrieval boundary and assigns role-specific token-level advantages, separately crediting the sampling decision and the answer. Trained on the curated DM-CoT-74k and DM-RL-45k, DynFrame-4B is competitive with strong 7B-8B baselines across six benchmarks (NExT-GQA, Charades-STA, ActivityNet-MR, Video-MME, MLVU, LVBench), and DynFrame-8B sets new state-of-the-art on most metrics. Towards Robust Real-Time Scene Text Detection: From Semantic to Instance Representation LearningXugong Qin, Pengyuan Lyu, Chengquan Zhang et al.
Due to the flexible representation of arbitrary-shaped scene text and simple pipeline, bottom-up segmentation-based methods begin to be mainstream in real-time scene text detection. Despite great progress, these methods show deficiencies in robustness and still suffer from false positives and instance adhesion. Different from existing methods which integrate multiple-granularity features or multiple outputs, we resort to the perspective of representation learning in which auxiliary tasks are utilized to enable the encoder to jointly learn robust features with the main task of per-pixel classification during optimization. For semantic representation learning, we propose global-dense semantic contrast (GDSC), in which a vector is extracted for global semantic representation, then used to perform element-wise contrast with the dense grid features. To learn instance-aware representation, we propose to combine top-down modeling (TDM) with the bottom-up framework to provide implicit instance-level clues for the encoder. With the proposed GDSC and TDM, the encoder network learns stronger representation without introducing any parameters and computations during inference. Equipped with a very light decoder, the detector can achieve more robust real-time scene text detection. Experimental results on four public datasets show that the proposed method can outperform or be comparable to the state-of-the-art on both accuracy and speed. Specifically, the proposed method achieves 87.2% F-measure with 48.2 FPS on Total-Text and 89.6% F-measure with 36.9 FPS on MSRA-TD500 on a single GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GPU.

GKD: A General Knowledge Distillation Framework for Large-scale Pre-trained Language ModelShicheng Tan, Weng Lam Tam, Yuanchun Wang et al.
Currently, the reduction in the parameter scale of large-scale pre-trained language models (PLMs) through knowledge distillation has greatly facilitated their widespread deployment on various devices. However, the deployment of knowledge distillation systems faces great challenges in real-world industrial-strength applications, which require the use of complex distillation methods on even larger-scale PLMs (over 10B), limited by memory on GPUs and the switching of methods. To overcome these challenges, we propose GKD, a general knowledge distillation framework that supports distillation on larger-scale PLMs using various distillation methods. With GKD, developers can build larger distillation models on memory-limited GPUs and easily switch and combine different distillation methods within a single framework. Experimental results show that GKD can support the distillation of at least 100B-scale PLMs and 25 mainstream methods on 8 NVIDIA A100 (40GB) GPUs.

CASP-Net: Rethinking Video Saliency Prediction from an Audio-VisualConsistency Perceptual PerspectiveJunwen Xiong, Ganglai Wang, Peng Zhang et al.
Incorporating the audio stream enables Video Saliency Prediction (VSP) to imitate the selective attention mechanism of human brain. By focusing on the benefits of joint auditory and visual information, most VSP methods are capable of exploiting semantic correlation between vision and audio modalities but ignoring the negative effects due to the temporal inconsistency of audio-visual intrinsics. Inspired by the biological inconsistency-correction within multi-sensory information, in this study, a consistency-aware audio-visual saliency prediction network (CASP-Net) is proposed, which takes a comprehensive consideration of the audio-visual semantic interaction and consistent perception. In addition a two-stream encoder for elegant association between video frames and corresponding sound source, a novel consistency-aware predictive coding is also designed to improve the consistency within audio and visual representations iteratively. To further aggregate the multi-scale audio-visual information, a saliency decoder is introduced for the final saliency map generation. Substantial experiments demonstrate that the proposed CASP-Net outperforms the other state-of-the-art methods on six challenging audio-visual eye-tracking datasets. Video quality assessment (VQA) is a crucial task in the development of video compression standards, as it directly impacts the viewer experience. This paper presents the results of the Compressed Video Quality Assessment challenge, held in conjunction with the Advances in Image Manipulation (AIM) workshop at ECCV 2024. The challenge aimed to evaluate the performance of VQA methods on a diverse dataset of 459 videos, encoded with 14 codecs of various compression standards (AVC/H.264, HEVC/H.265, AV1, and VVC/H.266) and containing a comprehensive collection of compression artifacts. To measure the methods performance, we employed traditional correlation coefficients between their predictions and subjective scores, which were collected via large-scale crowdsourced pairwise human comparisons. For training purposes, participants were provided with the Compressed Video Quality Assessment Dataset (CVQAD), a previously developed dataset of 1022 videos. Up to 30 participating teams registered for the challenge, while we report the results of 6 teams, which submitted valid final solutions and code for reproducing the results. Moreover, we calculated and present the performance of state-of-the-art VQA methods on the developed dataset, providing a comprehensive benchmark for future research. Binary stochasticity enabled highly efficient neuromorphic deep learning achieves better-than-software accuracyYang Li, Wei Wang, Ming Wang et al.
Deep learning needs high-precision handling of forwarding signals, backpropagating errors, and updating weights. This is inherently required by the learning algorithm since the gradient descent learning rule relies on the chain product of partial derivatives. However, it is challenging to implement deep learning in hardware systems that use noisy analog memristors as artificial synapses, as well as not being biologically plausible. Memristor-based implementations generally result in an excessive cost of neuronal circuits and stringent demands for idealized synaptic devices. Here, we demonstrate that the requirement for high precision is not necessary and that more efficient deep learning can be achieved when this requirement is lifted. We propose a binary stochastic learning algorithm that modifies all elementary neural network operations, by introducing (i) stochastic binarization of both the forwarding signals and the activation function derivatives, (ii) signed binarization of the backpropagating errors, and (iii) step-wised weight updates. Through an extensive hybrid approach of software simulation and hardware experiments, we find that binary stochastic deep learning systems can provide better performance than the software-based benchmarks using the high-precision learning algorithm. Also, the binary stochastic algorithm strongly simplifies the neural network operations in hardware, resulting in an improvement of the energy efficiency for the multiply-and-accumulate operations by more than three orders of magnitudes.

Beyond Pairwise Interactions: Equivariant Hypergraph Diffusion for Crystal Structure PredictionYang Liu, Chuan Zhou, Shuai Zhang et al.
Crystal Structure Prediction (CSP) remains a fundamental challenge with significant implications for materials discovery and the advancement of various scientific disciplines. Recent advances have demonstrated that generative models, particularly diffusion models, are especially promising for CSP. However, traditional graph-based representations, where atomic bonds are modeled as pairwise graph edges, fail to capture the intricate high-order interactions essential for accurately describing crystal structures. To address this limitation, we propose leveraging hypergraphs to represent crystal structures, enabling more expressive modeling of multi-way atomic interactions. Hypergraphs naturally encode complex high-order relationships and respect key symmetries -- such as permutation and periodic translation invariance -- that are crucial for characterizing crystalline materials. Building on this representation, we propose the \textbf{E}quivariant \textbf{H}ypergraph \textbf{Diff}usion Model (\textbf{EH-Diff}), a generative framework designed to exploit the symmetry-preserving properties of hypergraphs. EH-Diff provides an efficient and accurate method for predicting crystal structures, with rigorous theoretical guarantees on invariance preservation. Empirically, we conduct extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets, and the results demonstrate that EH-Diff outperforms state-of-the-art CSP methods even with a single diffusion sample.

Subgraph Neighboring Relations Infomax for Inductive Link Prediction on Knowledge GraphsXiaohan Xu, Peng Zhang, Yongquan He et al.
Inductive link prediction for knowledge graph aims at predicting missing links between unseen entities, those not shown in training stage. Most previous works learn entity-specific embeddings of entities, which cannot handle unseen entities. Recent several methods utilize enclosing subgraph to obtain inductive ability. However, all these works only consider the enclosing part of subgraph without complete neighboring relations, which leads to the issue that partial neighboring relations are neglected, and sparse subgraphs are hard to be handled. To address that, we propose Subgraph Neighboring Relations Infomax, SNRI, which sufficiently exploits complete neighboring relations from two aspects: neighboring relational feature for node feature and neighboring relational path for sparse subgraph. To further model neighboring relations in a global way, we innovatively apply mutual information (MI) maximization for knowledge graph. Experiments show that SNRI outperforms existing state-of-art methods by a large margin on inductive link prediction task, and verify the effectiveness of exploring complete neighboring relations in a global way to characterize node features and reason on sparse subgraphs.

Active speaker detection and speech enhancement have become two increasingly attractive topics in audio-visual scenario understanding. According to their respective characteristics, the scheme of independently designed architecture has been widely used in correspondence to each single task. This may lead to the representation learned by the model being task-specific, and inevitably result in the lack of generalization ability of the feature based on multi-modal modeling. More recent studies have shown that establishing cross-modal relationship between auditory and visual stream is a promising solution for the challenge of audio-visual multi-task learning. Therefore, as a motivation to bridge the multi-modal associations in audio-visual tasks, a unified framework is proposed to achieve target speaker detection and speech enhancement with joint learning of audio-visual modeling in this study.

MorphTE: Injecting Morphology in Tensorized EmbeddingsGuobing Gan, Peng Zhang, Sunzhu Li et al.
In the era of deep learning, word embeddings are essential when dealing with text tasks. However, storing and accessing these embeddings requires a large amount of space. This is not conducive to the deployment of these models on resource-limited devices. Combining the powerful compression capability of tensor products, we propose a word embedding compression method with morphological augmentation, Morphologically-enhanced Tensorized Embeddings (MorphTE). A word consists of one or more morphemes, the smallest units that bear meaning or have a grammatical function. MorphTE represents a word embedding as an entangled form of its morpheme vectors via the tensor product, which injects prior semantic and grammatical knowledge into the learning of embeddings. Furthermore, the dimensionality of the morpheme vector and the number of morphemes are much smaller than those of words, which greatly reduces the parameters of the word embeddings. We conduct experiments on tasks such as machine translation and question answering. Experimental results on four translation datasets of different languages show that MorphTE can compress word embedding parameters by about 20 times without performance loss and significantly outperforms related embedding compression methods.

VisKoP: Visual Knowledge oriented Programming for Interactive Knowledge Base Question AnsweringZijun Yao, Yuanyong Chen, Xin Lv et al. · tsinghua
We present Visual Knowledge oriented Programming platform (VisKoP), a knowledge base question answering (KBQA) system that integrates human into the loop to edit and debug the knowledge base (KB) queries. VisKoP not only provides a neural program induction module, which converts natural language questions into knowledge oriented program language (KoPL), but also maps KoPL programs into graphical elements. KoPL programs can be edited with simple graphical operators, such as dragging to add knowledge operators and slot filling to designate operator arguments. Moreover, VisKoP provides auto-completion for its knowledge base schema and users can easily debug the KoPL program by checking its intermediate results. To facilitate the practical KBQA on a million-entity-level KB, we design a highly efficient KoPL execution engine for the back-end. Experiment results show that VisKoP is highly efficient and user interaction can fix a large portion of wrong KoPL programs to acquire the correct answer. MiMo-Audio: Audio Language Models are Few-Shot LearnersXiaomi LLM-Core Team, Dong Zhang, Gang Wang et al.
Existing audio language models typically rely on task-specific fine-tuning to accomplish particular audio tasks. In contrast, humans are able to generalize to new audio tasks with only a few examples or simple instructions. GPT-3 has shown that scaling next-token prediction pretraining enables strong generalization capabilities in text, and we believe this paradigm is equally applicable to the audio domain. By scaling MiMo-Audio's pretraining data to over one hundred million of hours, we observe the emergence of few-shot learning capabilities across a diverse set of audio tasks. We develop a systematic evaluation of these capabilities and find that MiMo-Audio-7B-Base achieves SOTA performance on both speech intelligence and audio understanding benchmarks among open-source models. Beyond standard metrics, MiMo-Audio-7B-Base generalizes to tasks absent from its training data, such as voice conversion, style transfer, and speech editing. MiMo-Audio-7B-Base also demonstrates powerful speech continuation capabilities, capable of generating highly realistic talk shows, recitations, livestreaming and debates. At the post-training stage, we curate a diverse instruction-tuning corpus and introduce thinking mechanisms into both audio understanding and generation. MiMo-Audio-7B-Instruct achieves open-source SOTA on audio understanding benchmarks (MMSU, MMAU, MMAR, MMAU-Pro), spoken dialogue benchmarks (Big Bench Audio, MultiChallenge Audio) and instruct-TTS evaluations, approaching or surpassing closed-source models. PromptEcho: Annotation-Free Reward from Vision-Language Models for Text-to-Image Reinforcement LearningJinlong Liu, Wanggui He, Peng Zhang et al.
Reinforcement learning (RL) can improve the prompt following capability of text-to-image (T2I) models, yet obtaining high-quality reward signals remains challenging: CLIP Score is too coarse-grained, while VLM-based reward models (e.g., RewardDance) require costly human-annotated preference data and additional fine-tuning. We propose PromptEcho, a reward construction method that requires \emph{no} annotation and \emph{no} reward model training. Given a generated image and a guiding query, PromptEcho computes the token-level cross-entropy loss of a frozen VLM with the original prompt as the label, directly extracting the image-text alignment knowledge encoded during VLM pretraining. The reward is deterministic, computationally efficient, and improves automatically as stronger open-source VLMs become available. For evaluation, we develop DenseAlignBench, a benchmark of concept-rich dense captions for rigorously testing prompt following capability. Experimental results on two state-of-the-art T2I models (Z-Image and QwenImage-2512) demonstrate that PromptEcho achieves substantial improvements on DenseAlignBench (+26.8pp / +16.2pp net win rate), along with consistent gains on GenEval, DPG-Bench, and TIIFBench without any task-specific training. Ablation studies confirm that PromptEcho comprehensively outperforms inference-based scoring with the same VLM, and that reward quality scales with VLM size. We will open-source the trained models and the DenseAlignBench.

Attention-Based Lip Audio-Visual Synthesis for Talking Face Generation in the WildGanglai Wang, Peng Zhang, Lei Xie et al.
Talking face generation with great practical significance has attracted more attention in recent audio-visual studies. How to achieve accurate lip synchronization is a long-standing challenge to be further investigated. Motivated by xxx, in this paper, an AttnWav2Lip model is proposed by incorporating spatial attention module and channel attention module into lip-syncing strategy. Rather than focusing on the unimportant regions of the face image, the proposed AttnWav2Lip model is able to pay more attention on the lip region reconstruction. To our limited knowledge, this is the first attempt to introduce attention mechanism to the scheme of talking face generation. An extensive experiments have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model. Compared to the baseline measured by LSE-D and LSE-C metrics, a superior performance has been demonstrated on the benchmark lip synthesis datasets, including LRW, LRS2 and LRS3.

AS-PD: An Arbitrary-Size Downsampling Framework for Point CloudsPeng Zhang, Ruoyin Xie, Jinsheng Sun et al.
Point cloud downsampling is a crucial pre-processing operation to downsample points in order to unify data size and reduce computational cost, to name a few. Recent research on point cloud downsampling has achieved great success which concentrates on learning to sample in a task-aware way. However, existing learnable samplers can not directly perform arbitrary-size downsampling, and assume the input size is fixed. In this paper, we introduce the AS-PD, a novel task-aware sampling framework that directly downsamples point clouds to any smaller size based on a sample-to-refine strategy. Given an input point cloud of arbitrary size, we first perform a task-agnostic pre-sampling on the input point cloud to a specified sample size. Then, we obtain the sampled set by refining the pre-sampled set to make it task-aware, driven by downstream task losses. The refinement is realized by adding each pre-sampled point with a small offset predicted by point-wise multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs). With the density encoding and proper training scheme, the framework can learn to adaptively downsample point clouds of different input sizes to arbitrary sample sizes. We evaluate sampled results for classification and registration tasks, respectively. The proposed AS-PD surpasses the state-of-the-art method in terms of downstream performance. Further experiments also show that our AS-PD exhibits better generality to unseen task models, implying that the proposed sampler is optimized to the task rather than a specified task model.

TRIE++: Towards End-to-End Information Extraction from Visually Rich DocumentsZhanzhan Cheng, Peng Zhang, Can Li et al.
Recently, automatically extracting information from visually rich documents (e.g., tickets and resumes) has become a hot and vital research topic due to its widespread commercial value. Most existing methods divide this task into two subparts: the text reading part for obtaining the plain text from the original document images and the information extraction part for extracting key contents. These methods mainly focus on improving the second, while neglecting that the two parts are highly correlated. This paper proposes a unified end-to-end information extraction framework from visually rich documents, where text reading and information extraction can reinforce each other via a well-designed multi-modal context block. Specifically, the text reading part provides multi-modal features like visual, textual and layout features. The multi-modal context block is developed to fuse the generated multi-modal features and even the prior knowledge from the pre-trained language model for better semantic representation. The information extraction part is responsible for generating key contents with the fused context features. The framework can be trained in an end-to-end trainable manner, achieving global optimization. What is more, we define and group visually rich documents into four categories across two dimensions, the layout and text type. For each document category, we provide or recommend the corresponding benchmarks, experimental settings and strong baselines for remedying the problem that this research area lacks the uniform evaluation standard. Extensive experiments on four kinds of benchmarks (from fixed layout to variable layout, from full-structured text to semi-unstructured text) are reported, demonstrating the proposed method's effectiveness. Artificial-Noise-Aided Secure Near-Field MIMO With Fluid Antenna SystemsPeng Zhang, Jian Dang, Miaowen Wen et al.
With the evolution of mobile communication systems toward large-scale arrays, high-frequency operation, and reconfigurable antenna architectures, fluid antenna systems (FAS) operating in the near-field (NF) regime provide new degrees of freedom (DoF) for secure and privacy-sensitive mobile access. This paper proposes an artificial-noise (AN)-aided physical layer security (PLS) scheme for NF fluid-antenna multiple-input multiple-output (FA-MIMO) systems, aiming to protect high-rate mobile service links supported by compact or large arrays. An alternating-optimization (AO) framework addresses the sparsity-constrained non-convex design by splitting it into a continuous BF/AN joint-design subproblem and a discrete FAS port-selection subproblem. Closed-form fully digital beamforming (BF)/AN solutions are obtained via a generalized spectral water-filling procedure within a block coordinate descent (BCD) surrogate and realized by a hardware-consistent hybrid beamforming (HBF) architecture with a shared RF network and independent digital BF/AN branches, while preserving the target BF/AN power split under constant-modulus RF constraints. For FAS port selection, a row-energy based prune--refit rule, aligned with Karush--Kuhn--Tucker (KKT) conditions of a group-sparsity surrogate, enables efficient active-port determination under a finite RF-chain budget. Simulation results confirm that the proposed design exploits the geometry and position-domain DoF of FAS and significantly improves secrecy performance, particularly for non-extremely-large arrays where NF beam focusing alone is inadequate. These results demonstrate the potential of AN-aided NF FA-MIMO as a practical secure-transmission architecture for future location-aware and hardware-constrained mobile computing systems.

Multi-Scale Wavelet Transformer for Face Forgery DetectionJie Liu, Jingjing Wang, Peng Zhang et al.
Currently, many face forgery detection methods aggregate spatial and frequency features to enhance the generalization ability and gain promising performance under the cross-dataset scenario. However, these methods only leverage one level frequency information which limits their expressive ability. To overcome these limitations, we propose a multi-scale wavelet transformer framework for face forgery detection. Specifically, to take full advantage of the multi-scale and multi-frequency wavelet representation, we gradually aggregate the multi-scale wavelet representation at different stages of the backbone network. To better fuse the frequency feature with the spatial features, frequency-based spatial attention is designed to guide the spatial feature extractor to concentrate more on forgery traces. Meanwhile, cross-modality attention is proposed to fuse the frequency features with the spatial features. These two attention modules are calculated through a unified transformer block for efficiency. A wide variety of experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is efficient and effective for both within and cross datasets.

NAUTILUS: A Large Multimodal Model for Underwater Scene UnderstandingWei Xu, Cheng Wang, Dingkang Liang et al.
Underwater exploration offers critical insights into our planet and attracts increasing attention for its broader applications in resource exploration, national security, etc. We study the underwater scene understanding methods, which aim to achieve automated underwater exploration. The underwater scene understanding task demands multi-task perceptions from multiple granularities. However, the absence of large-scale underwater multi-task instruction-tuning datasets hinders the progress of this research. To bridge this gap, we construct NautData, a dataset containing 1.45 M image-text pairs supporting eight underwater scene understanding tasks. It enables the development and thorough evaluation of the underwater scene understanding models. Underwater image degradation is a widely recognized challenge that interferes with underwater tasks. To improve the robustness of underwater scene understanding, we introduce physical priors derived from underwater imaging models and propose a plug-and-play vision feature enhancement (VFE) module, which explicitly restores clear underwater information. We integrate this module into renowned baselines LLaVA-1.5 and Qwen2.5-VL and build our underwater LMM, NAUTILUS. Experiments conducted on the NautData and public underwater datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the VFE module, consistently improving the performance of both baselines on the majority of supported tasks, thus ensuring the superiority of NAUTILUS in the underwater scene understanding area. Animate Anyone: Consistent and Controllable Image-to-Video Synthesis for Character AnimationLi Hu, Xin Gao, Peng Zhang et al.
Character Animation aims to generating character videos from still images through driving signals. Currently, diffusion models have become the mainstream in visual generation research, owing to their robust generative capabilities. However, challenges persist in the realm of image-to-video, especially in character animation, where temporally maintaining consistency with detailed information from character remains a formidable problem. In this paper, we leverage the power of diffusion models and propose a novel framework tailored for character animation. To preserve consistency of intricate appearance features from reference image, we design ReferenceNet to merge detail features via spatial attention. To ensure controllability and continuity, we introduce an efficient pose guider to direct character's movements and employ an effective temporal modeling approach to ensure smooth inter-frame transitions between video frames. By expanding the training data, our approach can animate arbitrary characters, yielding superior results in character animation compared to other image-to-video methods. Furthermore, we evaluate our method on benchmarks for fashion video and human dance synthesis, achieving state-of-the-art results.

MachMap: End-to-End Vectorized Solution for Compact HD-Map ConstructionLimeng Qiao, Yongchao Zheng, Peng Zhang et al.
This report introduces the 1st place winning solution for the Autonomous Driving Challenge 2023 - Online HD-map Construction. By delving into the vectorization pipeline, we elaborate an effective architecture, termed as MachMap, which formulates the task of HD-map construction as the point detection paradigm in the bird-eye-view space with an end-to-end manner. Firstly, we introduce a novel map-compaction scheme into our framework, leading to reducing the number of vectorized points by 93% without any expression performance degradation. Build upon the above process, we then follow the general query-based paradigm and propose a strong baseline with integrating a powerful CNN-based backbone like InternImage, a temporal-based instance decoder and a well-designed point-mask coupling head. Additionally, an extra optional ensemble stage is utilized to refine model predictions for better performance. Our MachMap-tiny with IN-1K initialization achieves a mAP of 79.1 on the Argoverse2 benchmark and the further improved MachMap-huge reaches the best mAP of 83.5, outperforming all the other online HD-map construction approaches on the final leaderboard with a distinct performance margin (> 9.8 mAP at least).

Recommender systems play a crucial role in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) by tailoring content based on individual preferences. Despite their importance, challenges persist in balancing recommendation accuracy with user satisfaction, addressing biases while preserving user privacy, and solving cold-start problems in cross-domain situations. This research argues that addressing these issues is not solely the recommender systems' responsibility, and a human-centered approach is vital. We introduce the RAH Recommender system, Assistant, and Human) framework, an innovative solution with LLM-based agents such as Perceive, Learn, Act, Critic, and Reflect, emphasizing the alignment with user personalities. The framework utilizes the Learn-Act-Critic loop and a reflection mechanism for improving user alignment. Using the real-world data, our experiments demonstrate the RAH framework's efficacy in various recommendation domains, from reducing human burden to mitigating biases and enhancing user control. Notably, our contributions provide a human-centered recommendation framework that partners effectively with various recommendation models.

Urban Waterlogging Detection: A Challenging Benchmark and Large-Small Model Co-AdapterSuqi Song, Chenxu Zhang, Peng Zhang et al.
Urban waterlogging poses a major risk to public safety and infrastructure. Conventional methods using water-level sensors need high-maintenance to hardly achieve full coverage. Recent advances employ surveillance camera imagery and deep learning for detection, yet these struggle amidst scarce data and adverse environmental conditions. In this paper, we establish a challenging Urban Waterlogging Benchmark (UW-Bench) under diverse adverse conditions to advance real-world applications. We propose a Large-Small Model co-adapter paradigm (LSM-adapter), which harnesses the substantial generic segmentation potential of large model and the specific task-directed guidance of small model. Specifically, a Triple-S Prompt Adapter module alongside a Dynamic Prompt Combiner are proposed to generate then merge multiple prompts for mask decoder adaptation. Meanwhile, a Histogram Equalization Adap-ter module is designed to infuse the image specific information for image encoder adaptation. Recovering Fine Details for Neural Implicit Surface ReconstructionDecai Chen, Peng Zhang, Ingo Feldmann et al.
Recent works on implicit neural representations have made significant strides. Learning implicit neural surfaces using volume rendering has gained popularity in multi-view reconstruction without 3D supervision. However, accurately recovering fine details is still challenging, due to the underlying ambiguity of geometry and appearance representation. In this paper, we present D-NeuS, a volume rendering-base neural implicit surface reconstruction method capable to recover fine geometry details, which extends NeuS by two additional loss functions targeting enhanced reconstruction quality. First, we encourage the rendered surface points from alpha compositing to have zero signed distance values, alleviating the geometry bias arising from transforming SDF to density for volume rendering. Second, we impose multi-view feature consistency on the surface points, derived by interpolating SDF zero-crossings from sampled points along rays. Extensive quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate that our method reconstructs high-accuracy surfaces with details, and outperforms the state of the art.

Are Intermediate Layers and Labels Really Necessary? A General Language Model Distillation MethodShicheng Tan, Weng Lam Tam, Yuanchun Wang et al.
The large scale of pre-trained language models poses a challenge for their deployment on various devices, with a growing emphasis on methods to compress these models, particularly knowledge distillation. However, current knowledge distillation methods rely on the model's intermediate layer features and the golden labels (also called hard labels), which usually require aligned model architecture and enough labeled data respectively. Moreover, the parameters of vocabulary are usually neglected in existing methods. To address these problems, we propose a general language model distillation (GLMD) method that performs two-stage word prediction distillation and vocabulary compression, which is simple and surprisingly shows extremely strong performance. Specifically, GLMD supports more general application scenarios by eliminating the constraints of dimension and structure between models and the need for labeled datasets through the absence of intermediate layers and golden labels. Meanwhile, based on the long-tailed distribution of word frequencies in the data, GLMD designs a strategy of vocabulary compression through decreasing vocabulary size instead of dimensionality. Experimental results show that our method outperforms 25 state-of-the-art methods on the SuperGLUE benchmark, achieving an average score that surpasses the best method by 3%.

AutoSeqRec: Autoencoder for Efficient Sequential RecommendationSijia Liu, Jiahao Liu, Hansu Gu et al.
Sequential recommendation demonstrates the capability to recommend items by modeling the sequential behavior of users. Traditional methods typically treat users as sequences of items, overlooking the collaborative relationships among them. Graph-based methods incorporate collaborative information by utilizing the user-item interaction graph. However, these methods sometimes face challenges in terms of time complexity and computational efficiency. To address these limitations, this paper presents AutoSeqRec, an incremental recommendation model specifically designed for sequential recommendation tasks. AutoSeqRec is based on autoencoders and consists of an encoder and three decoders within the autoencoder architecture. These components consider both the user-item interaction matrix and the rows and columns of the item transition matrix. The reconstruction of the user-item interaction matrix captures user long-term preferences through collaborative filtering. In addition, the rows and columns of the item transition matrix represent the item out-degree and in-degree hopping behavior, which allows for modeling the user's short-term interests. When making incremental recommendations, only the input matrices need to be updated, without the need to update parameters, which makes AutoSeqRec very efficient. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that AutoSeqRec outperforms existing methods in terms of accuracy, while showcasing its robustness and efficiency.

3D Multiple Object Tracking on Autonomous Driving: A Literature ReviewPeng Zhang, Xin Li, Liang He et al.
3D multi-object tracking (3D MOT) stands as a pivotal domain within autonomous driving, experiencing a surge in scholarly interest and commercial promise over recent years. Despite its paramount significance, 3D MOT confronts a myriad of formidable challenges, encompassing abrupt alterations in object appearances, pervasive occlusion, the presence of diminutive targets, data sparsity, missed detections, and the unpredictable initiation and termination of object motion trajectories. Countless methodologies have emerged to grapple with these issues, yet 3D MOT endures as a formidable problem that warrants further exploration. This paper undertakes a comprehensive examination, assessment, and synthesis of the research landscape in this domain, remaining attuned to the latest developments in 3D MOT while suggesting prospective avenues for future investigation. Our exploration commences with a systematic exposition of key facets of 3D MOT and its associated domains, including problem delineation, classification, methodological approaches, fundamental principles, and empirical investigations. Subsequently, we categorize these methodologies into distinct groups, dissecting each group meticulously with regard to its challenges, underlying rationale, progress, merits, and demerits. Furthermore, we present a concise recapitulation of experimental metrics and offer an overview of prevalent datasets, facilitating a quantitative comparison for a more intuitive assessment. Lastly, our deliberations culminate in a discussion of the prevailing research landscape, highlighting extant challenges and charting possible directions for 3D MOT research. We present a structured and lucid road-map to guide forthcoming endeavors in this field.

An Audio-Visual Attention Based Multimodal Network for Fake Talking Face Videos DetectionGanglai Wang, Peng Zhang, Lei Xie et al.
DeepFake based digital facial forgery is threatening the public media security, especially when lip manipulation has been used in talking face generation, the difficulty of fake video detection is further improved. By only changing lip shape to match the given speech, the facial features of identity is hard to be discriminated in such fake talking face videos. Together with the lack of attention on audio stream as the prior knowledge, the detection failure of fake talking face generation also becomes inevitable. Inspired by the decision-making mechanism of human multisensory perception system, which enables the auditory information to enhance post-sensory visual evidence for informed decisions output, in this study, a fake talking face detection framework FTFDNet is proposed by incorporating audio and visual representation to achieve more accurate fake talking face videos detection. Furthermore, an audio-visual attention mechanism (AVAM) is proposed to discover more informative features, which can be seamlessly integrated into any audio-visual CNN architectures by modularization. With the additional AVAM, the proposed FTFDNet is able to achieve a better detection performance on the established dataset (FTFDD). The evaluation of the proposed work has shown an excellent performance on the detection of fake talking face videos, which is able to arrive at a detection rate above 97%.

DeepSeek-R1: Incentivizing Reasoning Capability in LLMs via Reinforcement LearningDeepSeek-AI, Daya Guo, Dejian Yang et al. · stanford, tsinghua
We introduce our first-generation reasoning models, DeepSeek-R1-Zero and DeepSeek-R1. DeepSeek-R1-Zero, a model trained via large-scale reinforcement learning (RL) without supervised fine-tuning (SFT) as a preliminary step, demonstrates remarkable reasoning capabilities. Through RL, DeepSeek-R1-Zero naturally emerges with numerous powerful and intriguing reasoning behaviors. However, it encounters challenges such as poor readability, and language mixing. To address these issues and further enhance reasoning performance, we introduce DeepSeek-R1, which incorporates multi-stage training and cold-start data before RL. DeepSeek-R1 achieves performance comparable to OpenAI-o1-1217 on reasoning tasks. To support the research community, we open-source DeepSeek-R1-Zero, DeepSeek-R1, and six dense models (1.5B, 7B, 8B, 14B, 32B, 70B) distilled from DeepSeek-R1 based on Qwen and Llama.

Human Still Wins over LLM: An Empirical Study of Active Learning on Domain-Specific Annotation TasksYuxuan Lu, Bingsheng Yao, Shao Zhang et al.
Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated considerable advances, and several claims have been made about their exceeding human performance. However, in real-world tasks, domain knowledge is often required. Low-resource learning methods like Active Learning (AL) have been proposed to tackle the cost of domain expert annotation, raising this question: Can LLMs surpass compact models trained with expert annotations in domain-specific tasks? In this work, we conduct an empirical experiment on four datasets from three different domains comparing SOTA LLMs with small models trained on expert annotations with AL. We found that small models can outperform GPT-3.5 with a few hundreds of labeled data, and they achieve higher or similar performance with GPT-4 despite that they are hundreds time smaller. Based on these findings, we posit that LLM predictions can be used as a warmup method in real-world applications and human experts remain indispensable in tasks involving data annotation driven by domain-specific knowledge.

Learning Stochastic Dynamical Systems as an Implicit Regularization with Graph Neural NetworksJin Guo, Ting Gao, Yufu Lan et al.
Stochastic Gumbel graph networks are proposed to learn high-dimensional time series, where the observed dimensions are often spatially correlated. To that end, the observed randomness and spatial-correlations are captured by learning the drift and diffusion terms of the stochastic differential equation with a Gumble matrix embedding, respectively. In particular, this novel framework enables us to investigate the implicit regularization effect of the noise terms in S-GGNs. We provide a theoretical guarantee for the proposed S-GGNs by deriving the difference between the two corresponding loss functions in a small neighborhood of weight. Then, we employ Kuramoto's model to generate data for comparing the spectral density from the Hessian Matrix of the two loss functions. Experimental results on real-world data, demonstrate that S-GGNs exhibit superior convergence, robustness, and generalization, compared with state-of-the-arts.

Stock Trading Optimization through Model-based Reinforcement Learning with Resistance Support Relative StrengthHuifang Huang, Ting Gao, Yi Gui et al.
Reinforcement learning (RL) is gaining attention by more and more researchers in quantitative finance as the agent-environment interaction framework is aligned with decision making process in many business problems. Most of the current financial applications using RL algorithms are based on model-free method, which still faces stability and adaptivity challenges. As lots of cutting-edge model-based reinforcement learning (MBRL) algorithms mature in applications such as video games or robotics, we design a new approach that leverages resistance and support (RS) level as regularization terms for action in MBRL, to improve the algorithm's efficiency and stability. From the experiment results, we can see RS level, as a market timing technique, enhances the performance of pure MBRL models in terms of various measurements and obtains better profit gain with less riskiness. Besides, our proposed method even resists big drop (less maximum drawdown) during COVID-19 pandemic period when the financial market got unpredictable crisis. Explanations on why control of resistance and support level can boost MBRL is also investigated through numerical experiments, such as loss of actor-critic network and prediction error of the transition dynamical model. It shows that RS indicators indeed help the MBRL algorithms to converge faster at early stage and obtain smaller critic loss as training episodes increase.

DeepSeek-V2: A Strong, Economical, and Efficient Mixture-of-Experts Language ModelDeepSeek-AI, Aixin Liu, Bei Feng et al. · pku
We present DeepSeek-V2, a strong Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model characterized by economical training and efficient inference. It comprises 236B total parameters, of which 21B are activated for each token, and supports a context length of 128K tokens. DeepSeek-V2 adopts innovative architectures including Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) and DeepSeekMoE. MLA guarantees efficient inference through significantly compressing the Key-Value (KV) cache into a latent vector, while DeepSeekMoE enables training strong models at an economical cost through sparse computation. Compared with DeepSeek 67B, DeepSeek-V2 achieves significantly stronger performance, and meanwhile saves 42.5% of training costs, reduces the KV cache by 93.3%, and boosts the maximum generation throughput to 5.76 times. We pretrain DeepSeek-V2 on a high-quality and multi-source corpus consisting of 8.1T tokens, and further perform Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) to fully unlock its potential. Evaluation results show that, even with only 21B activated parameters, DeepSeek-V2 and its chat versions still achieve top-tier performance among open-source models.

DART: Articulated Hand Model with Diverse Accessories and Rich TexturesDaiheng Gao, Yuliang Xiu, Kailin Li et al.
Hand, the bearer of human productivity and intelligence, is receiving much attention due to the recent fever of digital twins. Among different hand morphable models, MANO has been widely used in vision and graphics community. However, MANO disregards textures and accessories, which largely limits its power to synthesize photorealistic hand data. In this paper, we extend MANO with Diverse Accessories and Rich Textures, namely DART. DART is composed of 50 daily 3D accessories which varies in appearance and shape, and 325 hand-crafted 2D texture maps covers different kinds of blemishes or make-ups. Unity GUI is also provided to generate synthetic hand data with user-defined settings, e.g., pose, camera, background, lighting, textures, and accessories. Finally, we release DARTset, which contains large-scale (800K), high-fidelity synthetic hand images, paired with perfect-aligned 3D labels. Experiments demonstrate its superiority in diversity. As a complement to existing hand datasets, DARTset boosts the generalization in both hand pose estimation and mesh recovery tasks. Alleviating Sparse Rewards by Modeling Step-Wise and Long-Term Sampling Effects in Flow-Based GRPOYunze Tong, Mushui Liu, Canyu Zhao et al.
Deploying GRPO on Flow Matching models has proven effective for text-to-image generation. However, existing paradigms typically propagate an outcome-based reward to all preceding denoising steps without distinguishing the local effect of each step. Moreover, current group-wise ranking mainly compares trajectories at matched timesteps and ignores within-trajectory dependencies, where certain early denoising actions can affect later states via delayed, implicit interactions. We propose TurningPoint-GRPO (TP-GRPO), a GRPO framework that alleviates step-wise reward sparsity and explicitly models long-term effects within the denoising trajectory. TP-GRPO makes two key innovations: (i) it replaces outcome-based rewards with step-level incremental rewards, providing a dense, step-aware learning signal that better isolates each denoising action's "pure" effect, and (ii) it identifies turning points-steps that flip the local reward trend and make subsequent reward evolution consistent with the overall trajectory trend-and assigns these actions an aggregated long-term reward to capture their delayed impact. Turning points are detected solely via sign changes in incremental rewards, making TP-GRPO efficient and hyperparameter-free. Extensive experiments also demonstrate that TP-GRPO exploits reward signals more effectively and consistently improves generation.
