V2I Work Zone Geometry Reconstruction with Pose-Conditioned UWB Range DenoisingJiaxi Liu, Hangyu Li, Yang Cheng et al.
Reliable work zone mapping is important for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) to navigate safely and smoothly through work zone areas. Cone-mounted ultra-wideband (UWB) roadside units (RSU) offer a cost-effective way for work zone layout inference, as roadside anchors and vehicle tags provide direct vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) range constraints for work zone geometry reconstruction. However, UWB range estimation is degraded by bursty outliers, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) errors, arbitrary anchor-ordering issues, and vehicle pose uncertainties in practical field deployments. To address these challenges, this study proposes a pose-conditioned, permutation-equivariant predictive denoiser for multi-anchor UWB ranging. The model employs shared anchor-wise temporal prediction to capture range dynamics, symmetric set aggregation to handle unordered and missing anchors, and pose-conditioned residual decoding to incorporate vehicle motion as a geometric prior. A two-stage training strategy first learns prediction from observed ranges, and then fine-tunes the denoiser with NLOS-weighted supervision. The method is evaluated on rare real-world V2I UWB field data collected with a CAV, as well as on controlled large-scale simulation benchmarks for ablative insights. Results show that the proposed method substantially improves range accuracy, cone localization, and work zone geometry reconstruction in challenging NLOS-dominated regimes, remains robust to anchor re-indexing and moderate anchor dropout, and reduces measurement-weighted field MSE by 66.9% relative to the raw input.

Hypergraph-based Motion Generation with Multi-modal Interaction Relational ReasoningKeshu Wu, Yang Zhou, Haotian Shi et al.
The intricate nature of real-world driving environments, characterized by dynamic and diverse interactions among multiple vehicles and their possible future states, presents considerable challenges in accurately predicting the motion states of vehicles and handling the uncertainty inherent in the predictions. Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive modeling and reasoning to capture the implicit relations among vehicles and the corresponding diverse behaviors. This research introduces an integrated framework for autonomous vehicles (AVs) motion prediction to address these complexities, utilizing a novel Relational Hypergraph Interaction-informed Neural mOtion generator (RHINO). RHINO leverages hypergraph-based relational reasoning by integrating a multi-scale hypergraph neural network to model group-wise interactions among multiple vehicles and their multi-modal driving behaviors, thereby enhancing motion prediction accuracy and reliability. Experimental validation using real-world datasets demonstrates the superior performance of this framework in improving predictive accuracy and fostering socially aware automated driving in dynamic traffic scenarios. V2X-QA: A Comprehensive Reasoning Dataset and Benchmark for Multimodal Large Language Models in Autonomous Driving Across Ego, Infrastructure, and Cooperative ViewsJunwei You, Pei Li, Zhuoyu Jiang et al.
Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have shown strong potential for autonomous driving, yet existing benchmarks remain largely ego-centric and therefore cannot systematically assess model performance in infrastructure-centric and cooperative driving conditions. In this work, we introduce V2X-QA, a real-world dataset and benchmark for evaluating MLLMs across vehicle-side, infrastructure-side, and cooperative viewpoints. V2X-QA is built around a view-decoupled evaluation protocol that enables controlled comparison under vehicle-only, infrastructure-only, and cooperative driving conditions within a unified multiple-choice question answering (MCQA) framework. The benchmark is organized into a twelve-task taxonomy spanning perception, prediction, and reasoning and planning, and is constructed through expert-verified MCQA annotation to enable fine-grained diagnosis of viewpoint-dependent capabilities. Benchmark results across ten representative state-of-the-art proprietary and open-source models show that viewpoint accessibility substantially affects performance, and infrastructure-side reasoning supports meaningful macroscopic traffic understanding. Results also indicate that cooperative reasoning remains challenging since it requires cross-view alignment and evidence integration rather than simply additional visual input. To address these challenges, we introduce V2X-MoE, a benchmark-aligned baseline with explicit view routing and viewpoint-specific LoRA experts. The strong performance of V2X-MoE further suggests that explicit viewpoint specialization is a promising direction for multi-view reasoning in autonomous driving. Overall, V2X-QA provides a foundation for studying multi-perspective reasoning, reliability, and cooperative physical intelligence in connected autonomous driving. Graph-Based Interaction-Aware Multimodal 2D Vehicle Trajectory Prediction using Diffusion Graph Convolutional NetworksKeshu Wu, Yang Zhou, Haotian Shi et al.
Predicting vehicle trajectories is crucial for ensuring automated vehicle operation efficiency and safety, particularly on congested multi-lane highways. In such dynamic environments, a vehicle's motion is determined by its historical behaviors as well as interactions with surrounding vehicles. These intricate interactions arise from unpredictable motion patterns, leading to a wide range of driving behaviors that warrant in-depth investigation. This study presents the Graph-based Interaction-aware Multi-modal Trajectory Prediction (GIMTP) framework, designed to probabilistically predict future vehicle trajectories by effectively capturing these interactions. Within this framework, vehicles' motions are conceptualized as nodes in a time-varying graph, and the traffic interactions are represented by a dynamic adjacency matrix. To holistically capture both spatial and temporal dependencies embedded in this dynamic adjacency matrix, the methodology incorporates the Diffusion Graph Convolutional Network (DGCN), thereby providing a graph embedding of both historical states and future states. Furthermore, we employ a driving intention-specific feature fusion, enabling the adaptive integration of historical and future embeddings for enhanced intention recognition and trajectory prediction. This model gives two-dimensional predictions for each mode of longitudinal and lateral driving behaviors and offers probabilistic future paths with corresponding probabilities, addressing the challenges of complex vehicle interactions and multi-modality of driving behaviors. Validation using real-world trajectory datasets demonstrates the efficiency and potential.

V2X-VLM: End-to-End V2X Cooperative Autonomous Driving Through Large Vision-Language ModelsJunwei You, Haotian Shi, Zhuoyu Jiang et al.
Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) cooperation has emerged as a promising paradigm to overcome the perception limitations of classical autonomous driving by leveraging information from both ego-vehicle and infrastructure sensors. However, effectively fusing heterogeneous visual and semantic information while ensuring robust trajectory planning remains a significant challenge. This paper introduces V2X-VLM, a novel end-to-end (E2E) cooperative autonomous driving framework based on vision-language models (VLMs). V2X-VLM integrates multiperspective camera views from vehicles and infrastructure with text-based scene descriptions to enable a more comprehensive understanding of driving environments. Specifically, we propose a contrastive learning-based mechanism to reinforce the alignment of heterogeneous visual and textual characteristics, which enhances the semantic understanding of complex driving scenarios, and employ a knowledge distillation strategy to stabilize training. Experiments on a large real-world dataset demonstrate that V2X-VLM achieves state-of-the-art trajectory planning accuracy, significantly reducing L2 error and collision rate compared to existing cooperative autonomous driving baselines. Ablation studies validate the contributions of each component. Moreover, the evaluation of robustness and efficiency highlights the practicality of V2X-VLM for real-world deployment to enhance overall autonomous driving safety and decision-making.

Goal-based Neural Physics Vehicle Trajectory Prediction ModelRui Gan, Haotian Shi, Pei Li et al.
Vehicle trajectory prediction plays a vital role in intelligent transportation systems and autonomous driving, as it significantly affects vehicle behavior planning and control, thereby influencing traffic safety and efficiency. Numerous studies have been conducted to predict short-term vehicle trajectories in the immediate future. However, long-term trajectory prediction remains a major challenge due to accumulated errors and uncertainties. Additionally, balancing accuracy with interpretability in the prediction is another challenging issue in predicting vehicle trajectory. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a Goal-based Neural Physics Vehicle Trajectory Prediction Model (GNP). The GNP model simplifies vehicle trajectory prediction into a two-stage process: determining the vehicle's goal and then choosing the appropriate trajectory to reach this goal. The GNP model contains two sub-modules to achieve this process. The first sub-module employs a multi-head attention mechanism to accurately predict goals. The second sub-module integrates a deep learning model with a physics-based social force model to progressively predict the complete trajectory using the generated goals. The GNP demonstrates state-of-the-art long-term prediction accuracy compared to four baseline models. We provide interpretable visualization results to highlight the multi-modality and inherent nature of our neural physics framework. Additionally, ablation studies are performed to validate the effectiveness of our key designs.

CrossTraffic: An Open-Source Framework for Reproducible and Executable Transportation Analysis and Knowledge ManagementRei Tamaru, Bin Ran
Transportation engineering often relies on technical manuals and analytical tools for planning, design, and operations. However, the dissemination and management of these methodologies, such as those defined in the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), remain fragmented. Computational procedures are often embedded within proprietary tools, updates are inconsistently propagated across platforms, and knowledge transfer is limited. These challenges hinder reproducibility, interoperability, and collaborative advancement in transportation analysis. This paper introduces CrossTraffic, an open-source framework that treats transportation methodologies and regulatory knowledge as continuously deployable and verifiable software infrastructure. CrossTraffic provides an executable computational core for transportation analysis with cross-platform access through standardized interfaces. An ontology-driven knowledge graph encodes engineering rules and provenance and serves as a semantic validation layer for analytical workflows. A conversational interface further connects large language models to this validated execution environment through structured tool invocation, enabling natural-language access while preventing procedurally invalid analyses. Experimental results show that knowledge-graph-constrained execution substantially improves numerical accuracy and methodological fidelity compared with context-only approaches, achieving near-zero numerical error (MAE<0.50) across multiple large language models and perfect detection of invalid analytical inputs in stress testing (F1~=~1.0). Its modular architecture supports the integration of additional transportation manuals and research models, providing a foundation for an open and collaborative transportation science ecosystem with a reproducible computational core. Behavior-Grounded Lane Representation Learning for Multi-Task Traffic Digital TwinsRei Tamaru, Pei Li, Bin Ran
Traffic digital twins are powerful tools for advanced traffic management, and most systems are built on static geometric representations. However, these representations fail to capture the dynamic functional semantics required for behavior-aware reasoning, such as how a lane operates under complex traffic conditions. To address this gap, we introduce GeoLaneRep, a behavior-grounded lane representation learning framework for traffic digital twins. GeoLaneRep jointly encodes static lane geometry, observed vehicle trajectories, and operational descriptors into a shared, cross-camera semantic embedding. The encoder is trained with a joint objective combining contrastive cross-camera alignment, auxiliary role supervision, and temporal anomaly detection. Across 16 roadside cameras and 132 lanes, the learned embeddings achieve a $0.004$ lateral-rank error and an edge-role F1 of $1.000$ in zero-shot cross-camera matching, and an AUROC of $0.991$ for window-level anomaly detection. We further show that the same behavioral embeddings can condition a diffusion-based generator to synthesize lane geometries that satisfy targeted operational specifications, with $87.9\%$ overall specification accuracy across 38 lane groups. GeoLaneRep thus provides a semantic interface between roadside observations and downstream digital twin tasks, supporting cross-camera transfer, behavior-aware monitoring, and goal-directed lane synthesis. Exploring Driving Behavior for Autonomous Vehicles Based on Gramian Angular Field Vision TransformerJunwei You, Ying Chen, Zhuoyu Jiang et al.
Effective classification of autonomous vehicle (AV) driving behavior emerges as a critical area for diagnosing AV operation faults, enhancing autonomous driving algorithms, and reducing accident rates. This paper presents the Gramian Angular Field Vision Transformer (GAF-ViT) model, designed to analyze AV driving behavior. The proposed GAF-ViT model consists of three key components: GAF Transformer Module, Channel Attention Module, and Multi-Channel ViT Module. These modules collectively convert representative sequences of multivariate behavior into multi-channel images and employ image recognition techniques for behavior classification. A channel attention mechanism is applied to multi-channel images to discern the impact of various driving behavior features. Experimental evaluation on the Waymo Open Dataset of trajectories demonstrates that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance. Furthermore, an ablation study effectively substantiates the efficacy of individual modules within the model.

An Agentic Workflow for Detecting Personally Identifiable Information in Crash NarrativesJunyi Ma, Pei Li, Rui Gan et al.
Crash narratives in crash reports provide crucial contextual information for traffic safety analysis. Yet, their broader use is hindered by the presence of personally identifiable information (PII), including names, home addresses, and license plate numbers. Because PII appears sparsely and inconsistently in crash narratives, manual detection is not scalable, and existing rule-based approaches often fail to capture context-dependent PII. This study develops and evaluates a locally deployable, agentic workflow for PII detection in crash narratives by leveraging large language models (LLMs). The workflow contains a Hybrid Extractor and a Verifier. The Hybrid Extractor routes structured PII (e.g., phone numbers and email addresses) to a rule-based model (i.e., Presidio) and context-dependent PII (e.g., names, home addresses, and alphanumeric identifiers) to a domain-adapted, fine-tuned LLM. To address ambiguity in challenging categories, the workflow incorporates ensemble LLM extraction and an agentic verification step that filters false detections through evidence-based reasoning. Evaluated on a real-world crash dataset, the agentic workflow achieves strong performance with a precision of 0.82, a recall of 0.94, an F1 of 0.87, and an accuracy of 0.96, outperforming multiple baseline methods. Moreover, the ablation results suggest that ensemble LLM extraction and Verifier offer improved detection for home addresses and alphanumeric identifiers. The workflow runs locally, supporting privacy-sensitive operational settings where external APIs are restricted. This work offers a practical and robust path for scalable, privacy-preserving crash data processing, enabling broader research and safety interventions while safeguarding individual privacy.

Enhancing Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction with Crowd Trip InformationRei Tamaru, Pei Li, Bin Ran
Pedestrian trajectory prediction is essential for various applications in active traffic management, urban planning, traffic control, crowd management, and autonomous driving, aiming to enhance traffic safety and efficiency. Accurately predicting pedestrian trajectories requires a deep understanding of individual behaviors, social interactions, and road environments. Existing studies have developed various models to capture the influence of social interactions and road conditions on pedestrian trajectories. However, these approaches are limited by the lack of a comprehensive view of social interactions and road environments. To address these limitations and enhance the accuracy of pedestrian trajectory prediction, we propose a novel approach incorporating trip information as a new modality into pedestrian trajectory models. We propose RNTransformer, a generic model that utilizes crowd trip information to capture global information on social interactions. We incorporated RNTransformer with various socially aware local pedestrian trajectory prediction models to demonstrate its performance. Specifically, by leveraging a pre-trained RNTransformer when training different pedestrian trajectory prediction models, we observed improvements in performance metrics: a 1.3/2.2% enhancement in ADE/FDE on Social-LSTM, a 6.5/28.4% improvement on Social-STGCNN, and an 8.6/4.3% improvement on S-Implicit. Evaluation results demonstrate that RNTransformer significantly enhances the accuracy of various pedestrian trajectory prediction models across multiple datasets. Further investigation reveals that the RNTransformer effectively guides local models to more accurate directions due to the consideration of global information. By exploring crowd behavior within the road network, our approach shows great promise in improving pedestrian safety through accurate trajectory predictions.

Geo-ORBIT: A Federated Digital Twin Framework for Scene-Adaptive Lane Geometry DetectionRei Tamaru, Pei Li, Bin Ran
Digital Twins (DT) have the potential to transform traffic management and operations by creating dynamic, virtual representations of transportation systems that sense conditions, analyze operations, and support decision-making. A key component for DT of the transportation system is dynamic roadway geometry sensing. However, existing approaches often rely on static maps or costly sensors, limiting scalability and adaptability. Additionally, large-scale DTs that collect and analyze data from multiple sources face challenges in privacy, communication, and computational efficiency. To address these challenges, we introduce Geo-ORBIT (Geometrical Operational Roadway Blueprint with Integrated Twin), a unified framework that combines real-time lane detection, DT synchronization, and federated meta-learning. At the core of Geo-ORBIT is GeoLane, a lightweight lane detection model that learns lane geometries from vehicle trajectory data using roadside cameras. We extend this model through Meta-GeoLane, which learns to personalize detection parameters for local entities, and FedMeta-GeoLane, a federated learning strategy that ensures scalable and privacy-preserving adaptation across roadside deployments. Our system is integrated with CARLA and SUMO to create a high-fidelity DT that renders highway scenarios and captures traffic flows in real-time. Extensive experiments across diverse urban scenes show that FedMeta-GeoLane consistently outperforms baseline and meta-learning approaches, achieving lower geometric error and stronger generalization to unseen locations while drastically reducing communication overhead. Truck Parking Usage Prediction with Decomposed Graph Neural NetworksRei Tamaru, Yang Cheng, Steven Parker et al.
Truck parking on freight corridors faces the major challenge of insufficient parking spaces. This is exacerbated by the Hour-of-Service (HOS) regulations, which often result in unauthorized parking practices, causing safety concerns. It has been shown that providing accurate parking usage prediction can be a cost-effective solution to reduce unsafe parking practices. In light of this, existing studies have developed various methods to predict the usage of a truck parking site and have demonstrated satisfactory accuracy. However, these studies focused on a single parking site, and few approaches have been proposed to predict the usage of multiple truck parking sites considering spatio-temporal dependencies, due to the lack of data. This paper aims to fill this gap and presents the Regional Temporal Graph Convolutional Network (RegT-GCN) to predict parking usage across the entire state to provide more comprehensive truck parking information. The framework leverages the topological structures of truck parking site locations and historical parking data to predict the occupancy rate considering spatio-temporal dependencies across a state. To achieve this, we introduce a Regional Decomposition approach, which effectively captures the geographical characteristics of the truck parking locations and their spatial correlations. Evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms other baseline models, showing the effectiveness of our regional decomposition. V2X-LLM: Enhancing V2X Integration and Understanding in Connected Vehicle CorridorsKeshu Wu, Pei Li, Yang Zhou et al.
The advancement of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) offers significant potential for enhancing transportation safety, mobility, and sustainability. However, the integration and analysis of the diverse and voluminous V2X data, including Basic Safety Messages (BSMs) and Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT) data, present substantial challenges, especially on Connected Vehicle Corridors. These challenges include managing large data volumes, ensuring real-time data integration, and understanding complex traffic scenarios. Although these projects have developed an advanced CAV data pipeline that enables real-time communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and other road users for managing connected vehicle and roadside unit (RSU) data, significant hurdles in data comprehension and real-time scenario analysis and reasoning persist. To address these issues, we introduce the V2X-LLM framework, a novel enhancement to the existing CV data pipeline. V2X-LLM leverages Large Language Models (LLMs) to improve the understanding and real-time analysis of V2X data. The framework includes four key tasks: Scenario Explanation, offering detailed narratives of traffic conditions; V2X Data Description, detailing vehicle and infrastructure statuses; State Prediction, forecasting future traffic states; and Navigation Advisory, providing optimized routing instructions. By integrating LLM-driven reasoning with V2X data within the data pipeline, the V2X-LLM framework offers real-time feedback and decision support for traffic management. This integration enhances the accuracy of traffic analysis, safety, and traffic optimization. Demonstrations in a real-world urban corridor highlight the framework's potential to advance intelligent transportation systems.

CrashSight: A Phase-Aware, Infrastructure-Centric Video Benchmark for Traffic Crash Scene Understanding and ReasoningRui Gan, Junyi Ma, Pei Li et al.
Cooperative autonomous driving requires traffic scene understanding from both vehicle and infrastructure perspectives. While vision-language models (VLMs) show strong general reasoning capabilities, their performance in safety-critical traffic scenarios remains insufficiently evaluated due to the ego-vehicle focus of existing benchmarks. To bridge this gap, we present \textbf{CrashSight}, a large-scale vision-language benchmark for roadway crash understanding using real-world roadside camera data. The dataset comprises 250 crash videos, annotated with 13K multiple-choice question-answer pairs organized under a two-tier taxonomy. Tier 1 evaluates the visual grounding of scene context and involved parties, while Tier 2 probes higher-level reasoning, including crash mechanics, causal attribution, temporal progression, and post-crash outcomes. We benchmark 8 state-of-the-art VLMs and show that, despite strong scene description capabilities, current models struggle with temporal and causal reasoning in safety-critical scenarios. We provide a detailed analysis of failure scenarios and discuss directions for improving VLM crash understanding. The benchmark provides a standardized evaluation framework for infrastructure-assisted perception in cooperative autonomous driving. HERMES: A Holistic End-to-End Risk-Aware Multimodal Embodied System with Vision-Language Models for Long-Tail Autonomous DrivingWeizhe Tang, Junwei You, Jiaxi Liu et al.
End-to-end autonomous driving models increasingly benefit from large vision--language models for semantic understanding, yet ensuring safe and accurate operation under long-tail conditions remains challenging. These challenges are particularly prominent in long-tail mixed-traffic scenarios, where autonomous vehicles must interact with heterogeneous road users, including human-driven vehicles and vulnerable road users, under complex and uncertain conditions. This paper proposes HERMES, a holistic risk-aware end-to-end multimodal driving framework designed to inject explicit long-tail risk cues into trajectory planning. HERMES employs a foundation-model-assisted annotation pipeline to produce structured Long-Tail Scene Context and Long-Tail Planning Context, capturing hazard-centric cues together with maneuver intent and safety preference, and uses these signals to guide end-to-end planning. HERMES further introduces a Tri-Modal Driving Module that fuses multi-view perception, historical motion cues, and semantic guidance, ensuring risk-aware accurate trajectory planning under long-tail scenarios. Experiments on the real-world long-tail dataset demonstrate that HERMES consistently outperforms representative end-to-end and VLM-driven baselines under long-tail mixed-traffic scenarios. Ablation studies verify the complementary contributions of key components.

Planning Safety Trajectories with Dual-Phase, Physics-Informed, and Transportation Knowledge-Driven Large Language ModelsRui Gan, Pei Li, Keke Long et al.
Foundation models have demonstrated strong reasoning and generalization capabilities in driving-related tasks, including scene understanding, planning, and control. However, they still face challenges in hallucinations, uncertainty, and long inference latency. While existing foundation models have general knowledge of avoiding collisions, they often lack transportation-specific safety knowledge. To overcome these limitations, we introduce LetsPi, a physics-informed, dual-phase, knowledge-driven framework for safe, human-like trajectory planning. To prevent hallucinations and minimize uncertainty, this hybrid framework integrates Large Language Model (LLM) reasoning with physics-informed social force dynamics. LetsPi leverages the LLM to analyze driving scenes and historical information, providing appropriate parameters and target destinations (goals) for the social force model, which then generates the future trajectory. Moreover, the dual-phase architecture balances reasoning and computational efficiency through its Memory Collection phase and Fast Inference phase. The Memory Collection phase leverages the physics-informed LLM to process and refine planning results through reasoning, reflection, and memory modules, storing safe, high-quality driving experiences in a memory bank. Surrogate safety measures and physics-informed prompt techniques are introduced to enhance the LLM's knowledge of transportation safety and physical force, respectively. The Fast Inference phase extracts similar driving experiences as few-shot examples for new scenarios, while simplifying input-output requirements to enable rapid trajectory planning without compromising safety. Vehicle trajectory prediction is crucial for advancing autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Although deep learning-based approaches - especially those utilizing transformer-based and generative models - have markedly improved prediction accuracy by capturing complex, non-linear patterns in vehicle dynamics and traffic interactions, they frequently overlook detailed car-following behaviors and the inter-vehicle interactions critical for real-world driving applications, particularly in fully autonomous or mixed traffic scenarios. To address the issue, this study introduces a scaled noise conditional diffusion model for car-following trajectory prediction, which integrates detailed inter-vehicular interactions and car-following dynamics into a generative framework, improving both the accuracy and plausibility of predicted trajectories. The model utilizes a novel pipeline to capture historical vehicle dynamics by scaling noise with encoded historical features within the diffusion process. Particularly, it employs a cross-attention-based transformer architecture to model intricate inter-vehicle dependencies, effectively guiding the denoising process and enhancing prediction accuracy. Experimental results on diverse real-world driving scenarios demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance and robustness of the proposed method.

SRA-CP: Spontaneous Risk-Aware Selective Cooperative PerceptionJiaxi Liu, Chengyuan Ma, Hang Zhou et al.
Cooperative perception (CP) offers significant potential to overcome the limitations of single-vehicle sensing by enabling information sharing among connected vehicles (CVs). However, existing generic CP approaches need to transmit large volumes of perception data that are irrelevant to the driving safety, exceeding available communication bandwidth. Moreover, most CP frameworks rely on pre-defined communication partners, making them unsuitable for dynamic traffic environments. This paper proposes a Spontaneous Risk-Aware Selective Cooperative Perception (SRA-CP) framework to address these challenges. SRA-CP introduces a decentralized protocol where connected agents continuously broadcast lightweight perception coverage summaries and initiate targeted cooperation only when risk-relevant blind zones are detected. A perceptual risk identification module enables each CV to locally assess the impact of occlusions on its driving task and determine whether cooperation is necessary. When CP is triggered, the ego vehicle selects appropriate peers based on shared perception coverage and engages in selective information exchange through a fusion module that prioritizes safety-critical content and adapts to bandwidth constraints. We evaluate SRA-CP on a public dataset against several representative baselines. Results show that SRA-CP achieves less than 1% average precision (AP) loss for safety-critical objects compared to generic CP, while using only 20% of the communication bandwidth. Moreover, it improves the perception performance by 15% over existing selective CP methods that do not incorporate risk awareness.

SEAL: Vision-Language Model-Based Safe End-to-End Cooperative Autonomous Driving with Adaptive Long-Tail ModelingJunwei You, Pei Li, Zhuoyu Jiang et al.
Autonomous driving technologies face significant safety challenges while operating under rare, diverse, and visually degraded weather scenarios. These challenges become more critical in cooperative settings, where vehicles and infrastructure jointly perceive and reason across complex environments. To address these issues, we propose SEAL, a vision-language model-based framework with adaptive multimodal learning for robust cooperative autonomous driving under long-tail scenarios. SEAL introduces three core innovations: (i) a prompt-driven long-tail scenario generation and evaluation pipeline that leverages foundation models to synthesize realistic long-tail conditions such as snow and fog across vehicle- and infrastructure-side views, enriching training diversity efficiently; (ii) a gated multi-scenario adaptive attention module that modulates the visual stream using scenario priors to recalibrate ambiguous or corrupted features; and (iii) a multi-task scenario-aware contrastive learning objective that improves multimodal alignment and promotes cross-scenario feature separability. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SEAL significantly outperforms existing baselines in reasoning, safety, and planning accuracy under complex, challenging driving conditions, advancing the safety, robustness, and scalability of autonomous driving.

Vehicle trajectory prediction is crucial for advancing autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency. While traditional methods have laid foundational work, modern deep learning techniques, particularly transformer-based models and generative approaches, have significantly improved prediction accuracy by capturing complex and non-linear patterns in vehicle motion and traffic interactions. However, these models often overlook the detailed car-following behaviors and inter-vehicle interactions essential for real-world driving scenarios. This study introduces a Cross-Attention Transformer Enhanced Conditional Diffusion Model (Crossfusor) specifically designed for car-following trajectory prediction. Crossfusor integrates detailed inter-vehicular interactions and car-following dynamics into a robust diffusion framework, improving both the accuracy and realism of predicted trajectories. The model leverages a novel temporal feature encoding framework combining GRU, location-based attention mechanisms, and Fourier embedding to capture historical vehicle dynamics. It employs noise scaled by these encoded historical features in the forward diffusion process, and uses a cross-attention transformer to model intricate inter-vehicle dependencies in the reverse denoising process. Experimental results on the NGSIM dataset demonstrate that Crossfusor outperforms state-of-the-art models, particularly in long-term predictions, showcasing its potential for enhancing the predictive capabilities of autonomous driving systems.

Optimizing Bus Travel: A Novel Approach to Feature Mining with P-KMEANS and P-LDA AlgorithmsHongjie Liu, Haotian Shi, Sicheng Fu et al.
Customizing services for bus travel can bolster its attractiveness, optimize usage, alleviate traffic congestion, and diminish carbon emissions. This potential is realized by harnessing recent advancements in positioning communication facilities, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence for feature mining in public transportation. However, the inherent complexities of disorganized and unstructured public transportation data introduce substantial challenges to travel feature extraction. This study presents a bus travel feature extraction method rooted in Point of Interest (POI) data, employing enhanced P-KMENAS and P-LDA algorithms to overcome these limitations. While the KMEANS algorithm adeptly segments passenger travel paths into distinct clusters, its outcomes can be influenced by the initial K value. On the other hand, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) excels at feature identification and probabilistic interpretations yet encounters difficulties with feature intermingling and nuanced sub-feature interactions. Incorporating the POI dimension enhances our understanding of travel behavior, aligning it more closely with passenger attributes and facilitating easier data analysis. By incorporating POI data, our refined P-KMENAS and P-LDA algorithms grant a holistic insight into travel behaviors and attributes, effectively mitigating the limitations above. Consequently, this POI-centric algorithm effectively amalgamates diverse POI attributes, delineates varied travel contexts, and imparts probabilistic metrics to feature properties. Our method successfully mines the diverse aspects of bus travel, such as age, occupation, gender, sports, cost, safety, and personality traits. It effectively calculates relationships between individual travel behaviors and assigns explanatory and evaluative probabilities to POI labels, thereby enhancing bus travel optimization.

A Prioritized Trajectory Planning Algorithm for Connected and Automated Vehicle Mandatory Lane ChangesNachuan Li, Austen Z. Fan, Riley Fischer et al.
We introduce a prioritized system-optimal algorithm for mandatory lane change (MLC) behavior of connected and automated vehicles (CAV) from a dedicated lane. Our approach applies a cooperative lane change that prioritizes the decisions of lane changing vehicles which are closer to the end of the diverging zone (DZ), and optimizes the predicted total system travel time. Our experiments on synthetic data show that the proposed algorithm improves the traffic network efficiency by attaining higher speeds in the dedicated lane and earlier MLC positions while ensuring a low computational time. Our approach outperforms the traditional gap acceptance model.

Differential Variable Speed Limits Control for Freeway Recurrent Bottlenecks via Deep Reinforcement learningYuankai Wu, Huachun Tan, Bin Ran
Variable speed limits (VSL) control is a flexible way to improve traffic condition,increase safety and reduce emission. There is an emerging trend of using reinforcement learning technique for VSL control and recent studies have shown promising results. Currently, deep learning is enabling reinforcement learning to develope autonomous control agents for problems that were previously intractable. In this paper, we propose a more effective deep reinforcement learning (DRL) model for differential variable speed limits (DVSL) control, in which the dynamic and different speed limits among lanes can be imposed. The proposed DRL models use a novel actor-critic architecture which can learn a large number of discrete speed limits in a continues action space. Different reward signals, e.g. total travel time, bottleneck speed, emergency braking, and vehicular emission are used to train the DVSL controller, and comparison between these reward signals are conducted. We test proposed DRL baased DVSL controllers on a simulated freeway recurrent bottleneck. Results show that the efficiency, safety and emissions can be improved by the proposed method. We also show some interesting findings through the visulization of the control policies generated from DRL models.

Feature selection has attracted significant attention in data mining and machine learning in the past decades. Many existing feature selection methods eliminate redundancy by measuring pairwise inter-correlation of features, whereas the complementariness of features and higher inter-correlation among more than two features are ignored. In this study, a modification item concerning the complementariness of features is introduced in the evaluation criterion of features. Additionally, in order to identify the interference effect of already-selected False Positives (FPs), the redundancy-complementariness dispersion is also taken into account to adjust the measurement of pairwise inter-correlation of features. To illustrate the effectiveness of proposed method, classification experiments are applied with four frequently used classifiers on ten datasets. Classification results verify the superiority of proposed method compared with five representative feature selection methods.
