CrossLoc3D: Aerial-Ground Cross-Source 3D Place Recognition

We present CrossLoc3D, a novel 3D place recognition method that solves a large-scale point matching problem in a cross-source setting. Cross-source point cloud data corresponds to point sets captured by depth sensors with different accuracies or from different distances and perspectives. We address the challenges in terms of developing 3D place recognition methods that account for the representation gap between points captured by different sources. Our method handles cross-source data by utilizing multi-grained features and selecting convolution kernel sizes that correspond to most prominent features. Inspired by the diffusion models, our method uses a novel iterative refinement process that gradually shifts the embedding spaces from different sources to a single canonical space for better metric learning. In addition, we present CS-Campus3D, the first 3D aerial-ground cross-source dataset consisting of point cloud data from both aerial and ground LiDAR scans. The point clouds in CS-Campus3D have representation gaps and other features like different views, point densities, and noise patterns. We show that our CrossLoc3D algorithm can achieve an improvement of 4.74% - 15.37% in terms of the top 1 average recall on our CS-Campus3D benchmark and achieves performance comparable to state-of-the-art 3D place recognition method on the Oxford RobotCar. Making Images Real Again: A Comprehensive Survey on Deep Image Composition

As a common image editing operation, image composition (object insertion) aims to combine the foreground from one image and another background image, to produce a composite image. However, there are many issues that could make the composite images unrealistic. These issues can be summarized as the inconsistency between foreground and background, which includes appearance inconsistency (e.g., incompatible illumination), geometry inconsistency (e.g., unreasonable size), and semantic inconsistency (e.g., mismatched semantic context). The image composition task could be decomposed into multiple sub-tasks, in which each sub-task targets one or more issues. Specifically, object placement aims to find reasonable scale, location, and shape for the foreground. Image blending aims to address the unnatural boundary between foreground and background. Image harmonization aims to adjust the illumination statistics of foreground. Shadow (resp., reflection) generation aims to generate plausible shadow (resp., reflection) for the foreground. These sub-tasks can be executed sequentially or in parallel to acquire realistic composite images. To the best of our knowledge, there is no previous survey on image composition. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive survey over the sub-tasks and combined task of image composition. For each one, we summarize the existing methods, available datasets, and common evaluation metrics. Datasets and codes for image composition are summarized at https://github.com/bcmi/Awesome-Object-Insertion. We have also contributed the first image composition toolbox: libcom https://github.com/bcmi/libcom, which assembles 10+ image-composition-related functions. The ultimate goal of this toolbox is to solve all image composition problems with simple `import libcom'. Based on libcom toolbox, we also develop an online image composition workbench https://libcom.ustcnewly.com.

Inharmonious Region Localization by Magnifying Domain Discrepancy

Inharmonious region localization aims to localize the region in a synthetic image which is incompatible with surrounding background. The inharmony issue is mainly attributed to the color and illumination inconsistency produced by image editing techniques. In this work, we tend to transform the input image to another color space to magnify the domain discrepancy between inharmonious region and background, so that the model can identify the inharmonious region more easily. To this end, we present a novel framework consisting of a color mapping module and an inharmonious region localization network, in which the former is equipped with a novel domain discrepancy magnification loss and the latter could be an arbitrary localization network. MSVIPER: Improved Policy Distillation for Reinforcement-Learning-Based Robot Navigation

We present Multiple Scenario Verifiable Reinforcement Learning via Policy Extraction (MSVIPER), a new method for policy distillation to decision trees for improved robot navigation. MSVIPER learns an "expert" policy using any Reinforcement Learning (RL) technique involving learning a state-action mapping and then uses imitation learning to learn a decision-tree policy from it. We demonstrate that MSVIPER results in efficient decision trees and can accurately mimic the behavior of the expert policy. Moreover, we present efficient policy distillation and tree-modification techniques that take advantage of the decision tree structure to allow improvements to a policy without retraining. We use our approach to improve the performance of RL-based robot navigation algorithms for indoor and outdoor scenes. We demonstrate the benefits in terms of reduced freezing and oscillation behaviors (by up to 95\% reduction) for mobile robots navigating among dynamic obstacles and reduced vibrations and oscillation (by up to 17\%) for outdoor robot navigation on complex, uneven terrains.

Let It Flow: Agentic Crafting on Rock and Roll, Building the ROME Model within an Open Agentic Learning Ecosystem

Agentic crafting requires LLMs to operate in real-world environments over multiple turns by taking actions, observing outcomes, and iteratively refining artifacts. Despite its importance, the open-source community lacks a principled, end-to-end ecosystem to streamline agent development. We introduce the Agentic Learning Ecosystem (ALE), a foundational infrastructure that optimizes the production pipeline for agentic model. ALE consists of three components: ROLL, a post-training framework for weight optimization; ROCK, a sandbox environment manager for trajectory generation; and iFlow CLI, an agent framework for efficient context engineering. We release ROME, an open-source agent grounded by ALE and trained on over one million trajectories. Our approach includes data composition protocols for synthesizing complex behaviors and a novel policy optimization algorithm, Interaction-Perceptive Agentic Policy Optimization (IPA), which assigns credit over semantic interaction chunks rather than individual tokens to improve long-horizon training stability. Empirically, we evaluate ROME within a structured setting and introduce Terminal Bench Pro, a benchmark with improved scale and contamination control. ROME demonstrates strong performance across benchmarks like SWE-bench Verified and Terminal Bench, proving the effectiveness of ALE.

Learning Quantization in LDPC Decoders

Finding optimal message quantization is a key requirement for low complexity belief propagation (BP) decoding. To this end, we propose a floating-point surrogate model that imitates quantization effects as additions of uniform noise, whose amplitudes are trainable variables. We verify that the surrogate model closely matches the behavior of a fixed-point implementation and propose a hand-crafted loss function to realize a trade-off between complexity and error-rate performance. A deep learning-based method is then applied to optimize the message bitwidths. Moreover, we show that parameter sharing can both ensure implementation-friendly solutions and results in faster training convergence than independent parameters. We provide simulation results for 5G low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and report an error-rate performance within 0.2 dB of floating-point decoding at an average message quantization bitwidth of 3.1 bits. In addition, we show that the learned bitwidths also generalize to other code rates and channels.

AutoSpatial: Visual-Language Reasoning for Social Robot Navigation through Efficient Spatial Reasoning Learning

We present a novel method, AutoSpatial, an efficient approach with structured spatial grounding to enhance VLMs' spatial reasoning. By combining minimal manual supervision with large-scale Visual Question-Answering (VQA) pairs auto-labeling, our approach tackles the challenge of VLMs' limited spatial understanding in social navigation tasks. By applying a hierarchical two-round VQA strategy during training, AutoSpatial achieves both global and detailed understanding of scenarios, demonstrating more accurate spatial perception, movement prediction, Chain of Thought (CoT) reasoning, final action, and explanation compared to other SOTA approaches. These five components are essential for comprehensive social navigation reasoning. Our approach was evaluated using both expert systems (GPT-4o, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet) that provided cross-validation scores and human evaluators who assigned relative rankings to compare model performances across four key aspects. Augmented by the enhanced spatial reasoning capabilities, AutoSpatial demonstrates substantial improvements by averaged cross-validation score from expert systems in: perception & prediction (up to 10.71%), reasoning (up to 16.26%), action (up to 20.50%), and explanation (up to 18.73%) compared to baseline models trained only on manually annotated data.

Inharmonious Region Localization via Recurrent Self-Reasoning

Synthetic images created by image editing operations are prevalent, but the color or illumination inconsistency between the manipulated region and background may make it unrealistic. Thus, it is important yet challenging to localize the inharmonious region to improve the quality of synthetic image. Inspired by the classic clustering algorithm, we aim to group pixels into two clusters: inharmonious cluster and background cluster by inserting a novel Recurrent Self-Reasoning (RSR) module into the bottleneck of UNet structure. The mask output from RSR module is provided for the decoder as attention guidance. Finally, we adaptively combine the masks from RSR and the decoder to form our final mask. Experimental results on the image harmonization dataset demonstrate that our method achieves competitive performance both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Clustering-based Transfer Learning for Dynamic Multimodal MultiObjective Evolutionary Algorithm

Dynamic multimodal multiobjective optimization presents the dual challenge of simultaneously tracking multiple equivalent pareto optimal sets and maintaining population diversity in time-varying environments. However, existing dynamic multiobjective evolutionary algorithms often neglect solution modality, whereas static multimodal multiobjective evolutionary algorithms lack adaptability to dynamic changes. To address above challenge, this paper makes two primary contributions. First, we introduce a new benchmark suite of dynamic multimodal multiobjective test functions constructed by fusing the properties of both dynamic and multimodal optimization to establish a rigorous evaluation platform. Second, we propose a novel algorithm centered on a Clustering-based Autoencoder prediction dynamic response mechanism, which utilizes an autoencoder model to process matched clusters to generate a highly diverse initial population. Furthermore, to balance the algorithm's convergence and diversity, we integrate an adaptive niching strategy into the static optimizer. Empirical analysis on 12 instances of dynamic multimodal multiobjective test functions reveals that, compared with several state-of-the-art dynamic multiobjective evolutionary algorithms and multimodal multiobjective evolutionary algorithms, our algorithm not only preserves population diversity more effectively in the decision space but also achieves superior convergence in the objective space.

GBO:AMulti-Granularity Optimization Algorithm via Granular-ball for Continuous Problems

Optimization problems aim to find the optimal solution, which is becoming increasingly complex and difficult to solve. Traditional evolutionary optimization methods always overlook the granular characteristics of solution space. In the real scenario of numerous optimizations, the solution space is typically partitioned into sub-regions characterized by varying degree distributions. These sub-regions present different granularity characteristics at search potential and difficulty. Considering the granular characteristics of the solution space, the number of coarse-grained regions is smaller than the number of points, so the calculation is more efficient. On the other hand, coarse-grained characteristics are not easily affected by fine-grained sample points, so the calculation is more robust. To this end, this paper proposes a new multi-granularity evolutionary optimization method, namely the Granular-ball Optimization (GBO) algorithm, which characterizes and searches the solution space from coarse to fine. Specifically, using granular-balls instead of traditional points for optimization increases the diversity and robustness of the random search process. At the same time, the search range in different iteration processes is limited by the radius of granular-balls, covering the solution space from large to small. The mechanism of granular-ball splitting is applied to continuously split and evolve the large granular-balls into smaller ones for refining the solution space. Extensive experiments on commonly used benchmarks have shown that GBO outperforms popular and advanced evolutionary algorithms. The code can be found in the supporting materials.

CSCPR: Cross-Source-Context Indoor RGB-D Place Recognition

We extend our previous work, PoCo, and present a new algorithm, Cross-Source-Context Place Recognition (CSCPR), for RGB-D indoor place recognition that integrates global retrieval and reranking into an end-to-end model and keeps the consistency of using Context-of-Clusters (CoCs) for feature processing. Unlike prior approaches that primarily focus on the RGB domain for place recognition reranking, CSCPR is designed to handle the RGB-D data. We apply the CoCs to handle cross-sourced and cross-scaled RGB-D point clouds and introduce two novel modules for reranking: the Self-Context Cluster (SCC) and the Cross Source Context Cluster (CSCC), which enhance feature representation and match query-database pairs based on local features, respectively. We also release two new datasets, ScanNetIPR and ARKitIPR. Our experiments demonstrate that CSCPR significantly outperforms state-of-the-art models on these datasets by at least 29.27% in Recall@1 on the ScanNet-PR dataset and 43.24% in the new datasets. GaussianSSC: Triplane-Guided Directional Gaussian Fields for 3D Semantic Completion

We present \emph{GaussianSSC}, a two-stage, grid-native and triplane-guided approach to semantic scene completion (SSC) that injects the benefits of Gaussians without replacing the voxel grid or maintaining a separate Gaussian set. We introduce \emph{Gaussian Anchoring}, a sub-pixel, Gaussian-weighted image aggregation over fused FPN features that tightens voxel--image alignment and improves monocular occupancy estimation. We further convert point-like voxel features into a learned per-voxel Gaussian field and refine triplane features via a triplane-aligned \emph{Gaussian--Triplane Refinement} module that combines \emph{local gathering} (target-centric) and \emph{global aggregation} (source-centric). This directional, anisotropic support captures surface tangency, scale, and occlusion-aware asymmetry while preserving the efficiency of triplane representations. On SemanticKITTI~\cite{behley2019semantickitti}, GaussianSSC improves Stage~1 occupancy by +1.0\% Recall, +2.0\% Precision, and +1.8\% IoU over state-of-the-art baselines, and improves Stage~2 semantic prediction by +1.8\% IoU and +0.8\% mIoU.

ET-Former: Efficient Triplane Deformable Attention for 3D Semantic Scene Completion From Monocular Camera

We introduce ET-Former, a novel end-to-end algorithm for semantic scene completion using a single monocular camera. Our approach generates a semantic occupancy map from single RGB observation while simultaneously providing uncertainty estimates for semantic predictions. By designing a triplane-based deformable attention mechanism, our approach improves geometric understanding of the scene than other SOTA approaches and reduces noise in semantic predictions. Additionally, through the use of a Conditional Variational AutoEncoder (CVAE), we estimate the uncertainties of these predictions. The generated semantic and uncertainty maps will help formulate navigation strategies that facilitate safe and permissible decision making in the future. Evaluated on the Semantic-KITTI dataset, ET-Former achieves the highest Intersection over Union (IoU) and mean IoU (mIoU) scores while maintaining the lowest GPU memory usage, surpassing state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. It improves the SOTA scores of IoU from 44.71 to 51.49 and mIoU from 15.04 to 16.30 on SeamnticKITTI test, with a notably low training memory consumption of 10.9 GB. High-Resolution Image Harmonization via Collaborative Dual Transformations

Given a composite image, image harmonization aims to adjust the foreground to make it compatible with the background. High-resolution image harmonization is in high demand, but still remains unexplored. Conventional image harmonization methods learn global RGB-to-RGB transformation which could effortlessly scale to high resolution, but ignore diverse local context. Recent deep learning methods learn the dense pixel-to-pixel transformation which could generate harmonious outputs, but are highly constrained in low resolution. In this work, we propose a high-resolution image harmonization network with Collaborative Dual Transformation (CDTNet) to combine pixel-to-pixel transformation and RGB-to-RGB transformation coherently in an end-to-end network. Our CDTNet consists of a low-resolution generator for pixel-to-pixel transformation, a color mapping module for RGB-to-RGB transformation, and a refinement module to take advantage of both. Extensive experiments on high-resolution benchmark dataset and our created high-resolution real composite images demonstrate that our CDTNet strikes a good balance between efficiency and effectiveness. Inharmonious Region Localization

The advance of image editing techniques allows users to create artistic works, but the manipulated regions may be incompatible with the background. Localizing the inharmonious region is an appealing yet challenging task. Realizing that this task requires effective aggregation of multi-scale contextual information and suppression of redundant information, we design novel Bi-directional Feature Integration (BFI) block and Global-context Guided Decoder (GGD) block to fuse multi-scale features in the encoder and decoder respectively. We also employ Mask-guided Dual Attention (MDA) block between the encoder and decoder to suppress the redundant information. Experiments on the image harmonization dataset demonstrate that our method achieves competitive performance for inharmonious region localization. BargainNet: Background-Guided Domain Translation for Image Harmonization

Image composition is a fundamental operation in image editing field. However, unharmonious foreground and background downgrade the quality of composite image. Image harmonization, which adjusts the foreground to improve the consistency, is an essential yet challenging task. Previous deep learning based methods mainly focus on directly learning the mapping from composite image to real image, while ignoring the crucial guidance role that background plays. In this work, with the assumption that the foreground needs to be translated to the same domain as background, we formulate image harmonization task as background-guided domain translation. Therefore, we propose an image harmonization network with a novel domain code extractor and well-tailored triplet losses, which could capture the background domain information to guide the foreground harmonization. Extensive experiments on the existing image harmonization benchmark demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. Code is available at https://github.com/bcmi/BargainNet.

MVGT: A Multi-view Graph Transformer Based on Spatial Relations for EEG Emotion Recognition

Electroencephalography (EEG), a technique that records electrical activity from the scalp using electrodes, plays a vital role in affective computing. However, fully utilizing the multi-domain characteristics of EEG signals remains a significant challenge. Traditional single-perspective analyses often fail to capture the complex interplay of temporal, frequency, and spatial dimensions in EEG data. To address this, we introduce a multi-view graph transformer (MVGT) based on spatial relations that integrates information across three domains: temporal dynamics from continuous series, frequency features extracted from frequency bands, and inter-channel relationships captured through several spatial encodings. This comprehensive approach allows model to capture the nuanced properties inherent in EEG signals, enhancing its flexibility and representational power. Evaluation on publicly available datasets demonstrates that MVGT surpasses state-of-the-art methods in performance. The results highlight its ability to extract multi-domain information and effectively model inter-channel relationships, showcasing its potential for EEG-based emotion recognition tasks.

Bringing Generative AI to Adaptive Learning in Education

The recent surge in generative AI technologies, such as large language models and diffusion models, has boosted the development of AI applications in various domains, including science, finance, and education. Concurrently, adaptive learning, a concept that has gained substantial interest in the educational sphere, has proven its efficacy in enhancing students' learning efficiency. In this position paper, we aim to shed light on the intersectional studies of these two methods, which combine generative AI with adaptive learning concepts. By presenting discussions about the benefits, challenges, and potentials in this field, we argue that this union will contribute significantly to the development of the next-stage learning format in education.

LLM Agents for Education: Advances and Applications

Large Language Model (LLM) agents have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in automating tasks and driving innovation across diverse educational applications. In this survey, we provide a systematic review of state-of-the-art research on LLM agents in education, categorizing them into two broad classes: (1) \emph{Pedagogical Agents}, which focus on automating complex pedagogical tasks to support both teachers and students; and (2) \emph{Domain-Specific Educational Agents}, which are tailored for specialized fields such as science education, language learning, and professional development. We comprehensively examine the technological advancements underlying these LLM agents, including key datasets, benchmarks, and algorithmic frameworks that drive their effectiveness. Furthermore, we discuss critical challenges such as privacy, bias and fairness concerns, hallucination mitigation, and integration with existing educational ecosystems. This survey aims to provide a comprehensive technological overview of LLM agents for education, fostering further research and collaboration to enhance their impact for the greater good of learners and educators alike.

Detection of Small Targets in Sea Clutter Based on RepVGG and Continuous Wavelet Transform

Constructing a high-performance target detector under the background of sea clutter is always necessary and important. In this work, we propose a RepVGGA0-CWT detector, where RepVGG is a residual network that gains a high detection accuracy. Different from traditional residual networks, RepVGG keeps an acceptable calculation speed. Giving consideration to both accuracy and speed, the RepVGGA0 is selected among all the variants of RepVGG. Also, continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is employed to extract the radar echoes' time-frequency feature effectively. In the tests, other networks (ResNet50, ResNet18 and AlexNet) and feature extraction methods (short-time Fourier transform (STFT), CWT) are combined to build detectors for comparison. The result of different datasets shows that the RepVGGA0-CWT detector performs better than those detectors in terms of low controllable false alarm rate, high training speed, high inference speed and low memory usage. This RepVGGA0-CWT detector is hardware-friendly and can be applied in real-time scenes for its high inference speed in detection.

Paired-CSLiDAR: Height-Stratified Registration for Cross-Source Aerial-Ground LiDAR Pose Refinement

We introduce Paired-CSLiDAR (CSLiDAR), a cross-source aerial-ground LiDAR benchmark for single-scan pose refinement: refining a ground-scan pose within a 50 m-radius aerial crop. The benchmark contains 12,683 ground-aerial pairs across 6 evaluation sites and per-scan reference 6-DoF alignments for sub-meter root-mean-square error (RMSE) evaluation. Because aerial scans capture rooftops and canopy while ground scans capture facades and under-canopy, the two modalities share only a fraction of their geometry, primarily the terrain surface, causing standard registration methods and learned correspondence models to converge to metrically incorrect local minima. We propose Residual-Guided Stratified Registration (RGSR), a training-free, geometry-only refinement pipeline that exploits the shared ground plane through height-stratified ICP, reversed registration directions, and confidence-gated accept-if-better selection. RGSR achieves 86.0% S@0.75 m and 99.8% S@1.0 m on the primary benchmark of 9,012 scans, outperforming both the confidence-gated cascade at 83.7% and GeoTransformer at 76.3%. We validate RMSE-based pose selection with independent survey control and trajectory consistency, and show that added Fourier-Mellin BEV proposals can reduce RMSE while increasing actual pose error under extreme partial overlap. Foundation Models for Education: Promises and Prospects

With the advent of foundation models like ChatGPT, educators are excited about the transformative role that AI might play in propelling the next education revolution. The developing speed and the profound impact of foundation models in various industries force us to think deeply about the changes they will make to education, a domain that is critically important for the future of humans. In this paper, we discuss the strengths of foundation models, such as personalized learning, education inequality, and reasoning capabilities, as well as the development of agent architecture tailored for education, which integrates AI agents with pedagogical frameworks to create adaptive learning environments. Furthermore, we highlight the risks and opportunities of AI overreliance and creativity. Lastly, we envision a future where foundation models in education harmonize human and AI capabilities, fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and adaptive educational ecosystem.

On the Vulnerability of LLM/VLM-Controlled Robotics

In this work, we highlight vulnerabilities in robotic systems integrating large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) due to input modality sensitivities. While LLM/VLM-controlled robots show impressive performance across various tasks, their reliability under slight input variations remains underexplored yet critical. These models are highly sensitive to instruction or perceptual input changes, which can trigger misalignment issues, leading to execution failures with severe real-world consequences. To study this issue, we analyze the misalignment-induced vulnerabilities within LLM/VLM-controlled robotic systems and present a mathematical formulation for failure modes arising from variations in input modalities. We propose empirical perturbation strategies to expose these vulnerabilities and validate their effectiveness through experiments on multiple robot manipulation tasks. Our results show that simple input perturbations reduce task execution success rates by 22.2% and 14.6% in two representative LLM/VLM-controlled robotic systems. These findings underscore the importance of input modality robustness and motivate further research to ensure the safe and reliable deployment of advanced LLM/VLM-controlled robotic systems.

Vi-LAD: Vision-Language Attention Distillation for Socially-Aware Robot Navigation in Dynamic Environments

We introduce Vision-Language Attention Distillation (Vi-LAD), a novel approach for distilling socially compliant navigation knowledge from a large Vision-Language Model (VLM) into a lightweight transformer model for real-time robotic navigation. Unlike traditional methods that rely on expert demonstrations or human-annotated datasets, Vi-LAD performs knowledge distillation and fine-tuning at the intermediate layer representation level (i.e., attention maps) by leveraging the backbone of a pre-trained vision-action model. These attention maps highlight key navigational regions in a given scene, which serve as implicit guidance for socially aware motion planning. Vi-LAD fine-tunes a transformer-based model using intermediate attention maps extracted from the pre-trained vision-action model, combined with attention-like semantic maps constructed from a large VLM. To achieve this, we introduce a novel attention-level distillation loss that fuses knowledge from both sources, generating augmented attention maps with enhanced social awareness. These refined attention maps are then utilized as a traversability costmap within a socially aware model predictive controller (MPC) for navigation. We validate our approach through real-world experiments on a Husky wheeled robot, demonstrating significant improvements over state-of-the-art (SOTA) navigation methods. Our results show up to 14.2% - 50% improvement in success rate, which highlights the effectiveness of Vi-LAD in enabling socially compliant and efficient robot navigation.

Squeeze the Soaked Sponge: Efficient Off-policy Reinforcement Finetuning for Large Language Model

Reinforcement Learning (RL) has demonstrated its potential to improve the reasoning ability of Large Language Models (LLMs). One major limitation of most existing Reinforcement Finetuning (RFT) methods is that they are on-policy RL in nature, i.e., data generated during the past learning process is not fully utilized. This inevitably comes at a significant cost of compute and time, posing a stringent bottleneck on continuing economic and efficient scaling. To this end, we launch the renaissance of off-policy RL and propose Reincarnating Mix-policy Proximal Policy Gradient (ReMix), a general approach to enable on-policy RFT methods like PPO and GRPO to leverage off-policy data. ReMix consists of three major components: (1) Mix-policy proximal policy gradient with an increased Update-To-Data (UTD) ratio for efficient training; (2) KL-Convex policy constraint to balance the trade-off between stability and flexibility; (3) Policy reincarnation to achieve a seamless transition from efficient early-stage learning to steady asymptotic improvement. In our experiments, we train a series of ReMix models upon PPO, GRPO and 1.5B, 7B base models. ReMix shows an average Pass@1 accuracy of 52.10% (for 1.5B model) with 0.079M response rollouts, 350 training steps and achieves 63.27%/64.39% (for 7B model) with 0.007M/0.011M response rollouts, 50/75 training steps, on five math reasoning benchmarks (i.e., AIME'24, AMC'23, Minerva, OlympiadBench, and MATH500). Compared with 15 recent advanced models, ReMix shows SOTA-level performance with an over 30x to 450x reduction in training cost in terms of rollout data volume. In addition, we reveal insightful findings via multifaceted analysis, including the implicit preference for shorter responses due to the Whipping Effect of off-policy discrepancy, the collapse mode of self-reflection behavior under the presence of severe off-policyness, etc.

PoCo: Point Context Cluster for RGBD Indoor Place Recognition

We present a novel end-to-end algorithm (PoCo) for the indoor RGB-D place recognition task, aimed at identifying the most likely match for a given query frame within a reference database. The task presents inherent challenges attributed to the constrained field of view and limited range of perception sensors. We propose a new network architecture, which generalizes the recent Context of Clusters (CoCs) to extract global descriptors directly from the noisy point clouds through end-to-end learning. Moreover, we develop the architecture by integrating both color and geometric modalities into the point features to enhance the global descriptor representation. We conducted evaluations on public datasets ScanNet-PR and ARKit with 807 and 5047 scenarios, respectively. PoCo achieves SOTA performance: on ScanNet-PR, we achieve R@1 of 64.63%, a 5.7% improvement from the best-published result CGis (61.12%); on Arkit, we achieve R@1 of 45.12%, a 13.3% improvement from the best-published result CGis (39.82%). In addition, PoCo shows higher efficiency than CGis in inference time (1.75X-faster), and we demonstrate the effectiveness of PoCo in recognizing places within a real-world laboratory environment.

PhysGS: Bayesian-Inferred Gaussian Splatting for Physical Property Estimation

Understanding physical properties such as friction, stiffness, hardness, and material composition is essential for enabling robots to interact safely and effectively with their surroundings. However, existing 3D reconstruction methods focus on geometry and appearance and cannot infer these underlying physical properties. We present PhysGS, a Bayesian-inferred extension of 3D Gaussian Splatting that estimates dense, per-point physical properties from visual cues and vision--language priors. We formulate property estimation as Bayesian inference over Gaussian splats, where material and property beliefs are iteratively refined as new observations arrive. PhysGS also models aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties, enabling uncertainty-aware object and scene interpretation. Across object-scale (ABO-500), indoor, and outdoor real-world datasets, PhysGS improves accuracy of the mass estimation by up to 22.8%, reduces Shore hardness error by up to 61.2%, and lowers kinetic friction error by up to 18.1% compared to deterministic baselines. Our results demonstrate that PhysGS unifies 3D reconstruction, uncertainty modeling, and physical reasoning in a single, spatially continuous framework for dense physical property estimation. Splatblox: Traversability-Aware Gaussian Splatting for Outdoor Robot Navigation

We present Splatblox, a real-time system for autonomous navigation in outdoor environments with dense vegetation, irregular obstacles, and complex terrain. Our method fuses segmented RGB images and LiDAR point clouds using Gaussian Splatting to construct a traversability-aware Euclidean Signed Distance Field (ESDF) that jointly encodes geometry and semantics. Updated online, this field enables semantic reasoning to distinguish traversable vegetation (e.g., tall grass) from rigid obstacles (e.g., trees), while LiDAR ensures 360-degree geometric coverage for extended planning horizons. We validate Splatblox on a quadruped robot and demonstrate transfer to a wheeled platform. In field trials across vegetation-rich scenarios, it outperforms state-of-the-art methods with over 50% higher success rate, 40% fewer freezing incidents, 5% shorter paths, and up to 13% faster time to goal, while supporting long-range missions up to 100 meters. TerraPN: Unstructured Terrain Navigation using Online Self-Supervised Learning

We present TerraPN, a novel method that learns the surface properties (traction, bumpiness, deformability, etc.) of complex outdoor terrains directly from robot-terrain interactions through self-supervised learning, and uses it for autonomous robot navigation. Our method uses RGB images of terrain surfaces and the robot's velocities as inputs, and the IMU vibrations and odometry errors experienced by the robot as labels for self-supervision. Our method computes a surface cost map that differentiates smooth, high-traction surfaces (low navigation costs) from bumpy, slippery, deformable surfaces (high navigation costs). We compute the cost map by non-uniformly sampling patches from the input RGB image by detecting boundaries between surfaces resulting in low inference times (47.27% lower) compared to uniform sampling and existing segmentation methods. We present a novel navigation algorithm that accounts for a surface's cost, computes cost-based acceleration limits for the robot, and dynamically feasible, collision-free trajectories. TerraPN's surface cost prediction can be trained in ~25 minutes for five different surfaces, compared to several hours for previous learning-based segmentation methods. In terms of navigation, our method outperforms previous works in terms of success rates (up to 35.84% higher), vibration cost of the trajectories (up to 21.52% lower), and slowing the robot on bumpy, deformable surfaces (up to 46.76% slower) in different scenarios.

Image-Goal Navigation in Complex Environments via Modular Learning

We present a novel approach for image-goal navigation, where an agent navigates with a goal image rather than accurate target information, which is more challenging. Our goal is to decouple the learning of navigation goal planning, collision avoidance, and navigation ending prediction, which enables more concentrated learning of each part. This is realized by four different modules. The first module maintains an obstacle map during robot navigation. The second predicts a long-term goal on the real-time map periodically, which can thus convert an image-goal navigation task to several point-goal navigation tasks. To achieve these point-goal navigation tasks, the third module plans collision-free command sets for navigating to these long-term goals. The final module stops the robot properly near the goal image. The four modules are designed or maintained separately, which helps cut down the search time during navigation and improves the generalization to previously unseen real scenes. We evaluate the method in both a simulator and in the real world with a mobile robot. The results in real complex environments show that our method attains at least a $17\%$ increase in navigation success rate and a $23\%$ decrease in navigation collision rate over some state-of-the-art models.

Visible Watermark Removal via Self-calibrated Localization and Background Refinement

Superimposing visible watermarks on images provides a powerful weapon to cope with the copyright issue. Watermark removal techniques, which can strengthen the robustness of visible watermarks in an adversarial way, have attracted increasing research interest. Modern watermark removal methods perform watermark localization and background restoration simultaneously, which could be viewed as a multi-task learning problem. However, existing approaches suffer from incomplete detected watermark and degraded texture quality of restored background. Therefore, we design a two-stage multi-task network to address the above issues. The coarse stage consists of a watermark branch and a background branch, in which the watermark branch self-calibrates the roughly estimated mask and passes the calibrated mask to background branch to reconstruct the watermarked area. In the refinement stage, we integrate multi-level features to improve the texture quality of watermarked area. Extensive experiments on two datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

XAI-N: Sensor-based Robot Navigation using Expert Policies and Decision Trees

We present a novel sensor-based learning navigation algorithm to compute a collision-free trajectory for a robot in dense and dynamic environments with moving obstacles or targets. Our approach uses deep reinforcement learning-based expert policy that is trained using a sim2real paradigm. In order to increase the reliability and handle the failure cases of the expert policy, we combine with a policy extraction technique to transform the resulting policy into a decision tree format. The resulting decision tree has properties which we use to analyze and modify the policy and improve performance on navigation metrics including smoothness, frequency of oscillation, frequency of immobilization, and obstruction of target. We are able to modify the policy to address these imperfections without retraining, combining the learning power of deep learning with the control of domain-specific algorithms. We highlight the benefits of our algorithm in simulated environments and navigating a Clearpath Jackal robot among moving pedestrians. Supervised Learning Achieves Human-Level Performance in MOBA Games: A Case Study of Honor of Kings

We present JueWu-SL, the first supervised-learning-based artificial intelligence (AI) program that achieves human-level performance in playing multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games. Unlike prior attempts, we integrate the macro-strategy and the micromanagement of MOBA-game-playing into neural networks in a supervised and end-to-end manner. Tested on Honor of Kings, the most popular MOBA at present, our AI performs competitively at the level of High King players in standard 5v5 games.

DeltaGAN: Towards Diverse Few-shot Image Generation with Sample-Specific Delta

Learning to generate new images for a novel category based on only a few images, named as few-shot image generation, has attracted increasing research interest. Several state-of-the-art works have yielded impressive results, but the diversity is still limited. In this work, we propose a novel Delta Generative Adversarial Network (DeltaGAN), which consists of a reconstruction subnetwork and a generation subnetwork. The reconstruction subnetwork captures intra-category transformation, i.e., "delta", between same-category pairs. The generation subnetwork generates sample-specific "delta" for an input image, which is combined with this input image to generate a new image within the same category. Besides, an adversarial delta matching loss is designed to link the above two subnetworks together. Extensive experiments on five few-shot image datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Autonomous Social Distancing in Urban Environments using a Quadruped Robot

COVID-19 pandemic has become a global challenge faced by people all over the world. Social distancing has been proved to be an effective practice to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Against this backdrop, we propose that the surveillance robots can not only monitor but also promote social distancing. Robots can be flexibly deployed and they can take precautionary actions to remind people of practicing social distancing. In this paper, we introduce a fully autonomous surveillance robot based on a quadruped platform that can promote social distancing in complex urban environments. Specifically, to achieve autonomy, we mount multiple cameras and a 3D LiDAR on the legged robot. The robot then uses an onboard real-time social distancing detection system to track nearby pedestrian groups. Next, the robot uses a crowd-aware navigation algorithm to move freely in highly dynamic scenarios. The robot finally uses a crowd-aware routing algorithm to effectively promote social distancing by using human-friendly verbal cues to send suggestions to over-crowded pedestrians. We demonstrate and validate that our robot can be operated autonomously by conducting several experiments in various urban scenarios.

OF-VO: Efficient Navigation among Pedestrians Using Commodity Sensors

We present a modified velocity-obstacle (VO) algorithm that uses probabilistic partial observations of the environment to compute velocities and navigate a robot to a target. Our system uses commodity visual sensors, including a mono-camera and a 2D Lidar, to explicitly predict the velocities and positions of surrounding obstacles through optical flow estimation, object detection, and sensor fusion. A key aspect of our work is coupling the perception (OF: optical flow) and planning (VO) components for reliable navigation. Overall, our OF-VO algorithm using learning-based perception and model-based planning methods offers better performance than prior algorithms in terms of navigation time and success rate of collision avoidance. Our method also provides bounds on the probabilistic collision avoidance algorithm. We highlight the realtime performance of OF-VO on a Turtlebot navigating among pedestrians in both simulated and real-world scenes. A demo video is available at https://gamma.umd.edu/ofvo/

Realtime Collision Avoidance for Mobile Robots in Dense Crowds using Implicit Multi-sensor Fusion and Deep Reinforcement Learning

We present a novel learning-based collision avoidance algorithm, CrowdSteer, for mobile robots operating in dense and crowded environments. Our approach is end-to-end and uses multiple perception sensors such as a 2-D lidar along with a depth camera to sense surrounding dynamic agents and compute collision-free velocities. Our training approach is based on the sim-to-real paradigm and uses high fidelity 3-D simulations of pedestrians and the environment to train a policy using Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO). We show that our learned navigation model is directly transferable to previously unseen virtual and dense real-world environments. We have integrated our algorithm with differential drive robots and evaluated its performance in narrow scenarios such as dense crowds, narrow corridors, T-junctions, L-junctions, etc. In practice, our approach can perform real-time collision avoidance and generate smooth trajectories in such complex scenarios. We also compare the performance with prior methods based on metrics such as trajectory length, mean time to goal, success rate, and smoothness and observe considerable improvement.

DenseCAvoid: Real-time Navigation in Dense Crowds using Anticipatory Behaviors

We present DenseCAvoid, a novel navigation algorithm for navigating a robot through dense crowds and avoiding collisions by anticipating pedestrian behaviors. Our formulation uses visual sensors and a pedestrian trajectory prediction algorithm to track pedestrians in a set of input frames and provide bounding boxes that extrapolate the pedestrian positions in a future time. Our hybrid approach combines this trajectory prediction with a Deep Reinforcement Learning-based collision avoidance method to train a policy to generate smoother, safer, and more robust trajectories during run-time. We train our policy in realistic 3-D simulations of static and dynamic scenarios with multiple pedestrians. In practice, our hybrid approach generalizes well to unseen, real-world scenarios and can navigate a robot through dense crowds (~1-2 humans per square meter) in indoor scenarios, including narrow corridors and lobbies. As compared to cases where prediction was not used, we observe that our method reduces the occurrence of the robot freezing in a crowd by up to 48%, and performs comparably with respect to trajectory lengths and mean arrival times to goal.

Hierarchical Macro Strategy Model for MOBA Game AI

The next challenge of game AI lies in Real Time Strategy (RTS) games. RTS games provide partially observable gaming environments, where agents interact with one another in an action space much larger than that of GO. Mastering RTS games requires both strong macro strategies and delicate micro level execution. Recently, great progress has been made in micro level execution, while complete solutions for macro strategies are still lacking. In this paper, we propose a novel learning-based Hierarchical Macro Strategy model for mastering MOBA games, a sub-genre of RTS games. Trained by the Hierarchical Macro Strategy model, agents explicitly make macro strategy decisions and further guide their micro level execution. Moreover, each of the agents makes independent strategy decisions, while simultaneously communicating with the allies through leveraging a novel imitated cross-agent communication mechanism. We perform comprehensive evaluations on a popular 5v5 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game. Our 5-AI team achieves a 48% winning rate against human player teams which are ranked top 1% in the player ranking system.
