Enhancing Diameter Measurement Accuracy in Machine Vision Applications

Ahmet Gokhan Poyraz, Ahmet Emir Dirik, Hakan Gurkan et al.

In camera measurement systems, specialized equipment such as telecentric lenses is often employed to measure parts with narrow tolerances. However, despite the use of such equipment, measurement errors can occur due to mechanical and software-related factors within the system. These errors are particularly evident in applications where parts of different diameters are measured using the same setup. This study proposes two innovative approaches to enhance measurement accuracy using multiple known reference parts: a conversion factor-based method and a pixel-based method. In the first approach, the conversion factor is estimated from known references to calculate the diameter (mm) of the unknown part. In the second approach, the diameter (mm) is directly estimated using pixel-based diameter information from the references. The experimental setup includes an industrial-grade camera and telecentric lenses. Tests conducted on glass samples (1-12 mm) and metal workpieces (3-24 mm) show that measurement errors, which originally ranged from 13-114 micrometers, were reduced to 1-2 micrometers using the proposed methods. By utilizing only a few known reference parts, the proposed approach enables high-accuracy measurement of all parts within the camera's field of view. Additionally, this method enhances the existing diameter measurement literature by significantly reducing error rates and improving measurement reliability.

Fusion of Camera Model and Source Device Specific Forensic Methods for Improved Tamper Detection

Ahmet Gökhan Poyraz, Ahmet Emir Dirik, Ahmet Karaküçük et al.

PRNU based camera recognition method is widely studied in the image forensic literature. In recent years, CNN based camera model recognition methods have been developed. These two methods also provide solutions to tamper localization problem. In this paper, we propose their combination via a Neural Network to achieve better small-scale tamper detection performance. According to the results, the fusion method performs better than underlying methods even under high JPEG compression. For forgeries as small as 100$\times$100 pixel size, the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art, which validates the usefulness of fusion for localization of small-size image forgeries. We believe the proposed approach is feasible for any tamper-detection pipeline using the PRNU based methodology.

PRNU Based Source Camera Attribution for Image Sets Anonymized with Patch-Match Algorithm

Ahmet Karaküçük, Ahmet Emir Dirik

Patch-Match is an efficient algorithm used for structural image editing and available as a tool on popular commercial photo-editing software. The tool allows users to insert or remove objects from photos using information from similar scene content. Recently, a modified version of this algorithm was proposed as a counter-measure against Photo-Response Non-Uniformity (PRNU) based Source Camera Identification (SCI). The algorithm can provide anonymity at a great rate (97\%) and impede PRNU based SCI without the need of any other information, hence leaving no-known recourse for the PRNU-based SCI. In this paper, we propose a method to identify sources of the Patch-Match-applied images by using randomized subsets of images and the traditional PRNU based SCI methods. We evaluate the proposed method on two forensics scenarios in which an adversary makes use of the Patch-Match algorithm and distorts the PRNU noise pattern in the incriminating images he took with his camera. Our results show that it is possible to link sets of Patch-Match-applied images back to their source camera even in the presence of images that come from unknown cameras. To our best knowledge, the proposed method represents the very first counter-measure against the usage of of Patch-Match in the digital forensics literature.
