What Frozen VLAs Already Know About Success: A Probing Study of Value-Like Structure in Foundation Robot PoliciesJiachen Zhang, Junnan Nie, Junyi Lao et al.
Vision--language--action (VLA) policies are trained to imitate actions; their loss never asks them to estimate reward, progress, or future success. Their frozen representations nevertheless carry such information, and it can be read out and used to guide action choice without retraining the policy. From mixed successful and failed manipulation trajectories on LIBERO-Goal, we recover Monte-Carlo outcome targets using lightweight linear probes on frozen features. The targets are consistently predictable from OpenVLA, Pi0.5, DINOv2, and CLIP features, and substantially less so from baselines built on progress, time-to-go, task identity, or proprioception. To rule out task and temporal shortcuts, we evaluate the probes under same-task, same-timestep matched comparisons: Pi0.5 probes still reach roughly 92% pairwise ordering accuracy, while label-shuffled controls stay at chance. Used as a test-time selector over sampled Pi0.5 action prefixes, the same probe turns this offline finding into behavior: on push-plate, success rises from 26.7% under greedy decoding to 44.3%, with a second positive case on wine-rack. The gains are not universal and require additional inference compute, but the underlying finding is clean: frozen VLAs already encode information about success that their imitation objective never explicitly demands.

Exploring Remote Physiological Signal Measurement under Dynamic Lighting Conditions at Night: Dataset, Experiment, and AnalysisZhipeng Li, Kegang Wang, Hanguang Xiao et al.
Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) is a non-contact technique for measuring human physiological signals. Due to its convenience and non-invasiveness, it has demonstrated broad application potential in areas such as health monitoring and emotion recognition. In recent years, the release of numerous public datasets has significantly advanced the performance of rPPG algorithms under ideal lighting conditions. However, the effectiveness of current rPPG methods in realistic nighttime scenarios with dynamic lighting variations remains largely unknown. Moreover, there is a severe lack of datasets specifically designed for such challenging environments, which has substantially hindered progress in this area of research. To address this gap, we present and release a large-scale rPPG dataset collected under dynamic lighting conditions at night, named DLCN. The dataset comprises approximately 13 hours of video data and corresponding synchronized physiological signals from 98 participants, covering four representative nighttime lighting scenarios. DLCN offers high diversity and realism, making it a valuable resource for evaluating algorithm robustness in complex conditions. Built upon the proposed Happy-rPPG Toolkit, we conduct extensive experiments and provide a comprehensive analysis of the challenges faced by state-of-the-art rPPG methods when applied to DLCN. Robust Multimodal Recommendation via Graph Retrieval-Enhanced Modality CompletionYuan Li, Jun Hu, Jiaxin Jiang et al.
Multimodal data plays a critical role in web-based recommendation systems, where information from diverse modalities such as vision and text enhances representation learning. However, real-world multimodal datasets often suffer from modality incompleteness due to sensor failures, annotation scarcity, or privacy constraints, which substantially degrade model performance and reliability. One effective solution to address this issue is modality completion, which reconstructs missing features to provide modality-complete graphs for downstream tasks. Given a query node with missing multimodal features, existing modality completion methods typically infer information from the node itself or its neighbors to reconstruct the missing modality. However, these methods may overlook semantically relevant context in the graph, which contains valuable cues that are non-trivial to capture through simple methods like neighborhood aggregation. In this work, we propose GRE-MC, a Graph Retrieval-Enhanced Modality Completion framework, to overcome these limitations. By introducing a modality-aware subgraph retrieval mechanism, GRE-MC selects semantically relevant subgraphs from the entire graph, providing richer contextual information for completing missing modalities. Subsequently, a graph transformer jointly encodes the query node and the retrieved subgraph via global attention to complete the missing features, while a learnable sparse-routing codebook regularizes latent embeddings into compact bases for improved robustness. Extensive experiments on multimodal recommendation benchmarks demonstrate that GRE-MC consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, validating the effectiveness of subgraph retrieval and joint-encoding graph transformer for robust modality completion.

Mirror Descent on Riemannian ManifoldsJiaxin Jiang, Lei Shi, Jiyuan Tan
Mirror Descent (MD) is a scalable first-order method widely used in large-scale optimization, with applications in image processing, policy optimization, and neural network training. This paper generalizes MD to optimization on Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we develop a Riemannian Mirror Descent (RMD) framework via reparameterization and further propose a stochastic variant of RMD. We also establish non-asymptotic convergence guarantees for both RMD and stochastic RMD. As an application to the Stiefel manifold, our RMD framework reduces to the Curvilinear Gradient Descent (CGD) method proposed in [26]. Moreover, when specializing the stochastic RMD framework to the Stiefel setting, we obtain a stochastic extension of CGD, which effectively addresses large-scale manifold optimization problems.

RGL: A Graph-Centric, Modular Framework for Efficient Retrieval-Augmented Generation on GraphsYuan Li, Jun Hu, Jiaxin Jiang et al.
Recent advances in graph learning have paved the way for innovative retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems that leverage the inherent relational structures in graph data. However, many existing approaches suffer from rigid, fixed settings and significant engineering overhead, limiting their adaptability and scalability. Additionally, the RAG community has largely overlooked the decades of research in the graph database community regarding the efficient retrieval of interesting substructures on large-scale graphs. In this work, we introduce the RAG-on-Graphs Library (RGL), a modular framework that seamlessly integrates the complete RAG pipeline-from efficient graph indexing and dynamic node retrieval to subgraph construction, tokenization, and final generation-into a unified system. RGL addresses key challenges by supporting a variety of graph formats and integrating optimized implementations for essential components, achieving speedups of up to 143x compared to conventional methods. Moreover, its flexible utilities, such as dynamic node filtering, allow for rapid extraction of pertinent subgraphs while reducing token consumption. Our extensive evaluations demonstrate that RGL not only accelerates the prototyping process but also enhances the performance and applicability of graph-based RAG systems across a range of tasks.

Diffusion-based Semi-supervised Spectral Algorithm for Regression on ManifoldsWeichun Xia, Jiaxin Jiang, Lei Shi
We introduce a novel diffusion-based spectral algorithm to tackle regression analysis on high-dimensional data, particularly data embedded within lower-dimensional manifolds. Traditional spectral algorithms often fall short in such contexts, primarily due to the reliance on predetermined kernel functions, which inadequately address the complex structures inherent in manifold-based data. By employing graph Laplacian approximation, our method uses the local estimation property of heat kernel, offering an adaptive, data-driven approach to overcome this obstacle. Another distinct advantage of our algorithm lies in its semi-supervised learning framework, enabling it to fully use the additional unlabeled data. This ability enhances the performance by allowing the algorithm to dig the spectrum and curvature of the data manifold, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the dataset. Moreover, our algorithm performs in an entirely data-driven manner, operating directly within the intrinsic manifold structure of the data, without requiring any predefined manifold information. We provide a convergence analysis of our algorithm. Our findings reveal that the algorithm achieves a convergence rate that depends solely on the intrinsic dimension of the underlying manifold, thereby avoiding the curse of dimensionality associated with the higher ambient dimension.
