StyleTalk: One-shot Talking Head Generation with Controllable Speaking StylesYifeng Ma, Suzhen Wang, Zhipeng Hu et al.
Different people speak with diverse personalized speaking styles. Although existing one-shot talking head methods have made significant progress in lip sync, natural facial expressions, and stable head motions, they still cannot generate diverse speaking styles in the final talking head videos. To tackle this problem, we propose a one-shot style-controllable talking face generation framework. In a nutshell, we aim to attain a speaking style from an arbitrary reference speaking video and then drive the one-shot portrait to speak with the reference speaking style and another piece of audio. Specifically, we first develop a style encoder to extract dynamic facial motion patterns of a style reference video and then encode them into a style code. Afterward, we introduce a style-controllable decoder to synthesize stylized facial animations from the speech content and style code. In order to integrate the reference speaking style into generated videos, we design a style-aware adaptive transformer, which enables the encoded style code to adjust the weights of the feed-forward layers accordingly. Thanks to the style-aware adaptation mechanism, the reference speaking style can be better embedded into synthesized videos during decoding. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method is capable of generating talking head videos with diverse speaking styles from only one portrait image and an audio clip while achieving authentic visual effects. DuMLP-Pin: A Dual-MLP-dot-product Permutation-invariant Network for Set Feature ExtractionJiajun Fei, Ziyu Zhu, Wenlei Liu et al. · tsinghua
Existing permutation-invariant methods can be divided into two categories according to the aggregation scope, i.e. global aggregation and local one. Although the global aggregation methods, e. g., PointNet and Deep Sets, get involved in simpler structures, their performance is poorer than the local aggregation ones like PointNet++ and Point Transformer. It remains an open problem whether there exists a global aggregation method with a simple structure, competitive performance, and even much fewer parameters. In this paper, we propose a novel global aggregation permutation-invariant network based on dual MLP dot-product, called DuMLP-Pin, which is capable of being employed to extract features for set inputs, including unordered or unstructured pixel, attribute, and point cloud data sets. We strictly prove that any permutation-invariant function implemented by DuMLP-Pin can be decomposed into two or more permutation-equivariant ones in a dot-product way as the cardinality of the given input set is greater than a threshold. We also show that the DuMLP-Pin can be viewed as Deep Sets with strong constraints under certain conditions. The performance of DuMLP-Pin is evaluated on several different tasks with diverse data sets. The experimental results demonstrate that our DuMLP-Pin achieves the best results on the two classification problems for pixel sets and attribute sets. On both the point cloud classification and the part segmentation, the accuracy of DuMLP-Pin is very close to the so-far best-performing local aggregation method with only a 1-2% difference, while the number of required parameters is significantly reduced by more than 85% in classification and 69% in segmentation, respectively. Video-CCAM: Enhancing Video-Language Understanding with Causal Cross-Attention Masks for Short and Long VideosJiajun Fei, Dian Li, Zhidong Deng et al. · tsinghua
Multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated considerable potential across various downstream tasks that require cross-domain knowledge. MLLMs capable of processing videos, known as Video-MLLMs, have attracted broad interest in video-language understanding. However, videos, especially long videos, contain more visual tokens than images, making them difficult for LLMs to process. Existing works either downsample visual features or extend the LLM context size, risking the loss of high-resolution information or slowing down inference speed. To address these limitations, we apply cross-attention layers in the intermediate projector between the visual encoder and the large language model (LLM). As the naive cross-attention mechanism is insensitive to temporal order, we further introduce causal cross-attention masks (CCAMs) within the cross-attention layers. This Video-MLLM, named Video-CCAM, is trained in a straightforward two-stage fashion: feature alignment and visual instruction tuning. We develop several Video-CCAM models based on LLMs of different sizes (4B, 9B, and 14B). Video-CCAM proves to be a robust Video-MLLM and shows outstanding performance from short videos to long ones. Among standard video benchmarks like MVBench and VideoChatGPT-QA, Video-CCAM shows outstanding performances (1st/2nd/3rd in MVBench and TGIF-QA, 2nd/3rd/4th in MSVD-QA, MSRVTT-QA, and ActivityNet-QA). In benchmarks encompassing long videos, Video-CCAM models can be directly adapted to long video understanding and still achieve exceptional scores despite being trained solely with images and 16-frame videos. Using 96 frames (6$\times$ the training number of frames), Video-CCAM models rank 1st/2nd/3rd in VideoVista and 1st/2nd/4th in MLVU among all open-source Video-MLLMs, respectively. 3D-VisTA: Pre-trained Transformer for 3D Vision and Text AlignmentZiyu Zhu, Xiaojian Ma, Yixin Chen et al.
3D vision-language grounding (3D-VL) is an emerging field that aims to connect the 3D physical world with natural language, which is crucial for achieving embodied intelligence. Current 3D-VL models rely heavily on sophisticated modules, auxiliary losses, and optimization tricks, which calls for a simple and unified model. In this paper, we propose 3D-VisTA, a pre-trained Transformer for 3D Vision and Text Alignment that can be easily adapted to various downstream tasks. 3D-VisTA simply utilizes self-attention layers for both single-modal modeling and multi-modal fusion without any sophisticated task-specific design. To further enhance its performance on 3D-VL tasks, we construct ScanScribe, the first large-scale 3D scene-text pairs dataset for 3D-VL pre-training. ScanScribe contains 2,995 RGB-D scans for 1,185 unique indoor scenes originating from ScanNet and 3R-Scan datasets, along with paired 278K scene descriptions generated from existing 3D-VL tasks, templates, and GPT-3. 3D-VisTA is pre-trained on ScanScribe via masked language/object modeling and scene-text matching. It achieves state-of-the-art results on various 3D-VL tasks, ranging from visual grounding and dense captioning to question answering and situated reasoning. Moreover, 3D-VisTA demonstrates superior data efficiency, obtaining strong performance even with limited annotations during downstream task fine-tuning.

TalkCLIP: Talking Head Generation with Text-Guided Expressive Speaking StylesYifeng Ma, Suzhen Wang, Yu Ding et al.
Audio-driven talking head generation has drawn growing attention. To produce talking head videos with desired facial expressions, previous methods rely on extra reference videos to provide expression information, which may be difficult to find and hence limits their usage. In this work, we propose TalkCLIP, a framework that can generate talking heads where the expressions are specified by natural language, hence allowing for specifying expressions more conveniently. To model the mapping from text to expressions, we first construct a text-video paired talking head dataset where each video has diverse text descriptions that depict both coarse-grained emotions and fine-grained facial movements. Leveraging the proposed dataset, we introduce a CLIP-based style encoder that projects natural language-based descriptions to the representations of expressions. TalkCLIP can even infer expressions for descriptions unseen during training. TalkCLIP can also use text to modulate expression intensity and edit expressions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TalkCLIP achieves the advanced capability of generating photo-realistic talking heads with vivid facial expressions guided by text descriptions.

From Sparse to Dense: Spatio-Temporal Fusion for Multi-View 3D Human Pose Estimation with DenseWarperLing Li, Changjie Chen, Yuyan Wang et al.
In multi-view 3D human pose estimation, models typically rely on images captured simultaneously from different camera views to predict a pose at a specific moment. While providing accurate spatial information, this traditional approach often overlooks the rich temporal dependencies between adjacent frames. We propose a novel 3D human pose estimation input method: the sparse interleaved input to address this. This method leverages images captured from different camera views at various time points (e.g., View 1 at time $t$ and View 2 at time $t+δ$), allowing our model to capture rich spatio-temporal information and effectively boost performance. More importantly, this approach offers two key advantages: First, it can theoretically increase the output pose frame rate by N times with N cameras, thereby breaking through single-view frame rate limitations and enhancing the temporal resolution of the production. Second, using a sparse subset of available frames, our method can reduce data redundancy and simultaneously achieve better performance. We introduce the DenseWarper model, which leverages epipolar geometry for efficient spatio-temporal heatmap exchange. We conducted extensive experiments on the Human3.6M and MPI-INF-3DHP datasets. Results demonstrate that our method, utilizing only sparse interleaved images as input, outperforms traditional dense multi-view input approaches and achieves state-of-the-art performance. StyleTalk++: A Unified Framework for Controlling the Speaking Styles of Talking HeadsSuzhen Wang, Yifeng Ma, Yu Ding et al.
Individuals have unique facial expression and head pose styles that reflect their personalized speaking styles. Existing one-shot talking head methods cannot capture such personalized characteristics and therefore fail to produce diverse speaking styles in the final videos. To address this challenge, we propose a one-shot style-controllable talking face generation method that can obtain speaking styles from reference speaking videos and drive the one-shot portrait to speak with the reference speaking styles and another piece of audio. Our method aims to synthesize the style-controllable coefficients of a 3D Morphable Model (3DMM), including facial expressions and head movements, in a unified framework. Specifically, the proposed framework first leverages a style encoder to extract the desired speaking styles from the reference videos and transform them into style codes. Then, the framework uses a style-aware decoder to synthesize the coefficients of 3DMM from the audio input and style codes. During decoding, our framework adopts a two-branch architecture, which generates the stylized facial expression coefficients and stylized head movement coefficients, respectively. After obtaining the coefficients of 3DMM, an image renderer renders the expression coefficients into a specific person's talking-head video. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method generates visually authentic talking head videos with diverse speaking styles from only one portrait image and an audio clip.

Improving Scene Graph Generation with Superpixel-Based Interaction LearningJingyi Wang, Can Zhang, Jinfa Huang et al.
Recent advances in Scene Graph Generation (SGG) typically model the relationships among entities utilizing box-level features from pre-defined detectors. We argue that an overlooked problem in SGG is the coarse-grained interactions between boxes, which inadequately capture contextual semantics for relationship modeling, practically limiting the development of the field. In this paper, we take the initiative to explore and propose a generic paradigm termed Superpixel-based Interaction Learning (SIL) to remedy coarse-grained interactions at the box level. It allows us to model fine-grained interactions at the superpixel level in SGG. Specifically, (i) we treat a scene as a set of points and cluster them into superpixels representing sub-regions of the scene. (ii) We explore intra-entity and cross-entity interactions among the superpixels to enrich fine-grained interactions between entities at an earlier stage. Extensive experiments on two challenging benchmarks (Visual Genome and Open Image V6) prove that our SIL enables fine-grained interaction at the superpixel level above previous box-level methods, and significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods across all metrics. More encouragingly, the proposed method can be applied to boost the performance of existing box-level approaches in a plug-and-play fashion. In particular, SIL brings an average improvement of 2.0% mR (even up to 3.4%) of baselines for the PredCls task on Visual Genome, which facilitates its integration into any existing box-level method.

Key-Gram: Extensible World Knowledge for Embodied ManipulationJingjing Fan, Siyuan Li, Botao Ren et al.
Embodied control increasingly requires models to follow compositional language instructions while reasoning over dynamic visual states. However, current vision-language-action policies and world-action models often couple linguistic knowledge with visual computation in a shared backbone or conditioning pathway, leading to modality competition and making knowledge extension dependent on backbone updates. In this paper, we introduce Key-Gram, a conditional-memory framework that separates language-derived world knowledge from visual-state reasoning for embodied control. At its core is a memory module that decomposes an instruction into task-specific key-grams, retrieves static linguistic priors through deterministic hashed lookup, and injects the retrieved entries into selected hidden layers through context-aware gating and lightweight convolutional fusion. This design allows the backbone to devote its main capacity to visual reasoning and action inference, while reusable instruction knowledge is stored in an extensible external memory. The logical memory table can be conveniently partitioned during training and, due to its $O(1)$ lookup pattern, efficiently placed on host memory during inference. Across RoboTwin2.0, LIBERO/LIBERO-Plus, and real-world dual-arm manipulation, Key-Gram consistently improves both $π_{0}$ and $π_{0.5}$ backbones, with average relative gains of $29.5\%/9.9\%$ on RoboTwin2.0, $35.8\%/4.5\%$ on LIBERO-Plus transfer without target-domain fine-tuning, and $15.4\%/8.1\%$ on real-world long-horizon tasks. These results demonstrate that externalized linguistic memory provides an effective and extensible mechanism for improving compositional grounding, transfer, and real-world manipulation.

DreamTalk: When Emotional Talking Head Generation Meets Diffusion Probabilistic ModelsYifeng Ma, Shiwei Zhang, Jiayu Wang et al.
Emotional talking head generation has attracted growing attention. Previous methods, which are mainly GAN-based, still struggle to consistently produce satisfactory results across diverse emotions and cannot conveniently specify personalized emotions. In this work, we leverage powerful diffusion models to address the issue and propose DreamTalk, a framework that employs meticulous design to unlock the potential of diffusion models in generating emotional talking heads. Specifically, DreamTalk consists of three crucial components: a denoising network, a style-aware lip expert, and a style predictor. The diffusion-based denoising network can consistently synthesize high-quality audio-driven face motions across diverse emotions. To enhance lip-motion accuracy and emotional fullness, we introduce a style-aware lip expert that can guide lip-sync while preserving emotion intensity. To more conveniently specify personalized emotions, a diffusion-based style predictor is utilized to predict the personalized emotion directly from the audio, eliminating the need for extra emotion reference. By this means, DreamTalk can consistently generate vivid talking faces across diverse emotions and conveniently specify personalized emotions. LLaVA-SG: Leveraging Scene Graphs as Visual Semantic Expression in Vision-Language ModelsJingyi Wang, Jianzhong Ju, Jian Luan et al.
Recent advances in large vision-language models (VLMs) typically employ vision encoders based on the Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture. The division of the images into patches by ViT results in a fragmented perception, thereby hindering the visual understanding capabilities of VLMs. In this paper, we propose an innovative enhancement to address this limitation by introducing a Scene Graph Expression (SGE) module in VLMs. This module extracts and structurally expresses the complex semantic information within images, thereby improving the foundational perception and understanding abilities of VLMs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that integrating our SGE module significantly enhances the VLM's performance in vision-language tasks, indicating its effectiveness in preserving intricate semantic details and facilitating better visual understanding.

FUTURE-VLA: Forecasting Unified Trajectories Under Real-time ExecutionJingjing Fan, Yushan Liu, Shoujie Li et al.
General vision-language models increasingly support unified spatiotemporal reasoning over long video streams, yet deploying such capabilities on robots remains constrained by the prohibitive latency of processing long-horizon histories and generating high-dimensional future predictions. To bridge this gap, we present FUTURE-VLA, a unified architecture that reformulates long-horizon control and future forecasting as a monolithic sequence-generation task. Adopting a dual-sided efficiency paradigm, FUTURE-VLA leverages a temporally adaptive compression strategy to maximize spatiotemporal information density, enabling the ingestion of extensive multi-view histories while maintaining constant inference latency. Simultaneously, it performs latent-space autoregression to align actionable dynamics with reviewable visual look-aheads in a single forward pass. These real-time predictive capabilities further enable a prediction-guided Human-In-the-Loop mechanism via interactive execution gating, allowing operators to dynamically validate behaviors based on interpretable future previews. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that FUTURE-VLA establishes new state-of-the-art performance, attaining success rates of 99.2% on LIBERO, 75.4% on RoboTwin, and 78.0% on a real-world Piper platform, all with a $16\times$ extended spatiotemporal window while maintaining the inference latency of a single-frame baseline.

Beyond Language: Grounding Referring Expressions with Hand Pointing in Egocentric VisionLing Li, Bowen Liu, Zinuo Zhan et al.
Traditional Visual Grounding (VG) predominantly relies on textual descriptions to localize objects, a paradigm that inherently struggles with linguistic ambiguity and often ignores non-verbal deictic cues prevalent in real-world interactions. In natural egocentric engagements, hand-pointing combined with speech forms the most intuitive referring mechanism. To bridge this gap, we introduce EgoPoint-Ground, the first large-scale multimodal dataset dedicated to egocentric deictic visual grounding. Comprising over \textbf{15k} interactive samples in complex scenes, the dataset provides rich, multi-grained annotations including hand-target bounding box pairs and dense semantic captions. We establish a comprehensive benchmark for hand-pointing referring expression resolution, evaluating a wide spectrum of mainstream Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) and state-of-the-art VG architectures. Furthermore, we propose SV-CoT, a novel baseline framework that reformulates grounding as a structured inference process, synergizing gestural and linguistic cues through a Visual Chain-of-Thought paradigm. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SV-CoT achieves an $\textbf{11.7\%}$ absolute improvement over existing methods, effectively mitigating semantic ambiguity and advancing the capability of agents to comprehend multimodal physical intents. Unifying 3D Vision-Language Understanding via Promptable QueriesZiyu Zhu, Zhuofan Zhang, Xiaojian Ma et al.
A unified model for 3D vision-language (3D-VL) understanding is expected to take various scene representations and perform a wide range of tasks in a 3D scene. However, a considerable gap exists between existing methods and such a unified model, due to the independent application of representation and insufficient exploration of 3D multi-task training. In this paper, we introduce PQ3D, a unified model capable of using Promptable Queries to tackle a wide range of 3D-VL tasks, from low-level instance segmentation to high-level reasoning and planning. This is achieved through three key innovations: (1) unifying various 3D scene representations (i.e., voxels, point clouds, multi-view images) into a shared 3D coordinate space by segment-level grouping, (2) an attention-based query decoder for task-specific information retrieval guided by prompts, and (3) universal output heads for different tasks to support multi-task training. Tested across ten diverse 3D-VL datasets, PQ3D demonstrates impressive performance on these tasks, setting new records on most benchmarks. Particularly, PQ3D improves the state-of-the-art on ScanNet200 by 4.9% (AP25), ScanRefer by 5.4% (acc@0.5), Multi3DRefer by 11.7% (F1@0.5), and Scan2Cap by 13.4% (CIDEr@0.5). Moreover, PQ3D supports flexible inference with individual or combined forms of available 3D representations, e.g., solely voxel input.

Feedback RoI Features Improve Aerial Object DetectionBotao Ren, Botian Xu, Tengyu Liu et al.
Neuroscience studies have shown that the human visual system utilizes high-level feedback information to guide lower-level perception, enabling adaptation to signals of different characteristics. In light of this, we propose Feedback multi-Level feature Extractor (Flex) to incorporate a similar mechanism for object detection. Flex refines feature selection based on image-wise and instance-level feedback information in response to image quality variation and classification uncertainty. Experimental results show that Flex offers consistent improvement to a range of existing SOTA methods on the challenging aerial object detection datasets including DOTA-v1.0, DOTA-v1.5, and HRSC2016. Although the design originates in aerial image detection, further experiments on MS COCO also reveal our module's efficacy in general detection models. Quantitative and qualitative analyses indicate that the improvements are closely related to image qualities, which match our motivation.

Move to Understand a 3D Scene: Bridging Visual Grounding and Exploration for Efficient and Versatile Embodied NavigationZiyu Zhu, Xilin Wang, Yixuan Li et al.
Embodied scene understanding requires not only comprehending visual-spatial information that has been observed but also determining where to explore next in the 3D physical world. Existing 3D Vision-Language (3D-VL) models primarily focus on grounding objects in static observations from 3D reconstruction, such as meshes and point clouds, but lack the ability to actively perceive and explore their environment. To address this limitation, we introduce \underline{\textbf{M}}ove \underline{\textbf{t}}o \underline{\textbf{U}}nderstand (\textbf{\model}), a unified framework that integrates active perception with \underline{\textbf{3D}} vision-language learning, enabling embodied agents to effectively explore and understand their environment. This is achieved by three key innovations: 1) Online query-based representation learning, enabling direct spatial memory construction from RGB-D frames, eliminating the need for explicit 3D reconstruction. 2) A unified objective for grounding and exploring, which represents unexplored locations as frontier queries and jointly optimizes object grounding and frontier selection. 3) End-to-end trajectory learning that combines \textbf{V}ision-\textbf{L}anguage-\textbf{E}xploration pre-training over a million diverse trajectories collected from both simulated and real-world RGB-D sequences. Extensive evaluations across various embodied navigation and question-answering benchmarks show that MTU3D outperforms state-of-the-art reinforcement learning and modular navigation approaches by 14\%, 23\%, 9\%, and 2\% in success rate on HM3D-OVON, GOAT-Bench, SG3D, and A-EQA, respectively. \model's versatility enables navigation using diverse input modalities, including categories, language descriptions, and reference images. These findings highlight the importance of bridging visual grounding and exploration for embodied intelligence.

Exploring Timeline Control for Facial Motion GenerationYifeng Ma, Jinwei Qi, Chaonan Ji et al.
This paper introduces a new control signal for facial motion generation: timeline control. Compared to audio and text signals, timelines provide more fine-grained control, such as generating specific facial motions with precise timing. Users can specify a multi-track timeline of facial actions arranged in temporal intervals, allowing precise control over the timing of each action. To model the timeline control capability, We first annotate the time intervals of facial actions in natural facial motion sequences at a frame-level granularity. This process is facilitated by Toeplitz Inverse Covariance-based Clustering to minimize human labor. Based on the annotations, we propose a diffusion-based generation model capable of generating facial motions that are natural and accurately aligned with input timelines. Our method supports text-guided motion generation by using ChatGPT to convert text into timelines. Experimental results show that our method can annotate facial action intervals with satisfactory accuracy, and produces natural facial motions accurately aligned with timelines.

Context-Aware Aerial Object Detection: Leveraging Inter-Object and Background RelationshipsBotao Ren, Botian Xu, Xue Yang et al.
In most modern object detection pipelines, the detection proposals are processed independently given the feature map. Therefore, they overlook the underlying relationships between objects and the surrounding background, which could have provided additional context for accurate detection. Because aerial imagery is almost orthographic, the spatial relations in image space closely align with those in the physical world, and inter-object and object-background relationships become particularly significant. To address this oversight, we propose a framework that leverages the strengths of Transformer-based models and Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) features to capture such relationships. Specifically, Building on two-stage detectors, we treat Region of Interest (RoI) proposals as tokens, accompanied by CLIP Tokens obtained from multi-level image segments. These tokens are then passed through a Transformer encoder, where specific spatial and geometric relations are incorporated into the attention weights, which are adaptively modulated and regularized. Additionally, we introduce self-supervised constraints on CLIP Tokens to ensure consistency. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that our approach achieves consistent improvements, setting new state-of-the-art results with increases of 1.37 mAP$_{50}$ on DOTA-v1.0, 5.30 mAP$_{50}$ on DOTA-v1.5, 2.30 mAP$_{50}$ on DOTA-v2.0 and 3.23 mAP$_{50}$ on DIOR-R.

Hint of Pseudo Code (HoPC): Zero-Shot Step by Step Pseudo Code Reasoning PromptingIok Tong Lei, Ziyu Zhu, Han Yu et al.
Prompting a language model (LM) is an increasingly important research topic for better utilization of large language models (LLMs). While simple prompting is effective for single-step questions, it fails to activate the correct knowledge path for multi-step reasoning tasks consistently. The few-shot Chain of Thought (CoT), serves as an advanced prompting strategy that explains and demonstrates the reasoning process to the LLM, outperforming simple prompting in challenging reasoning tasks such as arithmetic and common-sense reasoning. The Program of Thought (PoT) aims to generate text and programming language solutions for multi-step reasoning problems. In zero-shot CoT, the prompt is simply ``Let's think step by step'', which is overly simplistic and does not adequately demonstrate a robust reasoning process for complex reasoning challenges. Additionally, PoT requires an extra interpreter to execute the answer and struggles with semantic reasoning problems like StrategyQA. This paper introduces a novel Hint of Pseudo Code (HoPC) prompting technique that does not require extra interpreter as in PoT and incorporates a more powerful zero-shot problem decomposition and semantic code reasoning capabilities than zero-shot CoT. It consists of three components: problem decomposition, semantic code reasoning, and answer extraction. We prompt these components as hints in a sequential, step by step manner, making it easy to tailor and explain for various tasks.

Cross-Modality Time-Variant Relation Learning for Generating Dynamic Scene GraphsJingyi Wang, Jinfa Huang, Can Zhang et al.
Dynamic scene graphs generated from video clips could help enhance the semantic visual understanding in a wide range of challenging tasks such as environmental perception, autonomous navigation, and task planning of self-driving vehicles and mobile robots. In the process of temporal and spatial modeling during dynamic scene graph generation, it is particularly intractable to learn time-variant relations in dynamic scene graphs among frames. In this paper, we propose a Time-variant Relation-aware TRansformer (TR$^2$), which aims to model the temporal change of relations in dynamic scene graphs. Explicitly, we leverage the difference of text embeddings of prompted sentences about relation labels as the supervision signal for relations. In this way, cross-modality feature guidance is realized for the learning of time-variant relations. Implicitly, we design a relation feature fusion module with a transformer and an additional message token that describes the difference between adjacent frames. Extensive experiments on the Action Genome dataset prove that our TR$^2$ can effectively model the time-variant relations. TR$^2$ significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods under two different settings by 2.1% and 2.6% respectively.

Phase Space Reconstruction Network for Lane Intrusion Action RecognitionRuiwen Zhang, Zhidong Deng, Hongsen Lin et al.
In a complex road traffic scene, illegal lane intrusion of pedestrians or cyclists constitutes one of the main safety challenges in autonomous driving application. In this paper, we propose a novel object-level phase space reconstruction network (PSRNet) for motion time series classification, aiming to recognize lane intrusion actions that occur 150m ahead through a monocular camera fixed on moving vehicle. In the PSRNet, the movement of pedestrians and cyclists, specifically viewed as an observable object-level dynamic process, can be reconstructed as trajectories of state vectors in a latent phase space and further characterized by a learnable Lyapunov exponent-like classifier that indicates discrimination in terms of average exponential divergence of state trajectories. Additionally, in order to first transform video inputs into one-dimensional motion time series of each object, a lane width normalization based on visual object tracking-by-detection is presented. Extensive experiments are conducted on the THU-IntrudBehavior dataset collected from real urban roads. The results show that our PSRNet could reach the best accuracy of 98.0%, which remarkably exceeds existing action recognition approaches by more than 30%.

A Deep Graph Wavelet Convolutional Neural Network for Semi-supervised Node ClassificationJingyi Wang, Zhidong Deng
Graph convolutional neural network provides good solutions for node classification and other tasks with non-Euclidean data. There are several graph convolutional models that attempt to develop deep networks but do not cause serious over-smoothing at the same time. Considering that the wavelet transform generally has a stronger ability to extract useful information than the Fourier transform, we propose a new deep graph wavelet convolutional network (DeepGWC) for semi-supervised node classification tasks. Based on the optimized static filtering matrix parameters of vanilla graph wavelet neural networks and the combination of Fourier bases and wavelet ones, DeepGWC is constructed together with the reuse of residual connection and identity mappings in network architectures. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets including Cora, Citeseer, and Pubmed are conducted. The experimental results demonstrate that our DeepGWC outperforms existing graph deep models with the help of additional wavelet bases and achieves new state-of-the-art performances eventually.

DETR for Crowd Pedestrian DetectionMatthieu Lin, Chuming Li, Xingyuan Bu et al.
Pedestrian detection in crowd scenes poses a challenging problem due to the heuristic defined mapping from anchors to pedestrians and the conflict between NMS and highly overlapped pedestrians. The recently proposed end-to-end detectors(ED), DETR and deformable DETR, replace hand designed components such as NMS and anchors using the transformer architecture, which gets rid of duplicate predictions by computing all pairwise interactions between queries. Inspired by these works, we explore their performance on crowd pedestrian detection. Surprisingly, compared to Faster-RCNN with FPN, the results are opposite to those obtained on COCO. Furthermore, the bipartite match of ED harms the training efficiency due to the large ground truth number in crowd scenes. In this work, we identify the underlying motives driving ED's poor performance and propose a new decoder to address them. Moreover, we design a mechanism to leverage the less occluded visible parts of pedestrian specifically for ED, and achieve further improvements. A faster bipartite match algorithm is also introduced to make ED training on crowd dataset more practical. The proposed detector PED(Pedestrian End-to-end Detector) outperforms both previous EDs and the baseline Faster-RCNN on CityPersons and CrowdHuman. It also achieves comparable performance with state-of-the-art pedestrian detection methods. Code will be released soon.

Object detection in videos has drawn increasing attention since it is more practical in real scenarios. Most of the deep learning methods use CNNs to process each decoded frame in a video stream individually. However, the free of charge yet valuable motion information already embedded in the video compression format is usually overlooked. In this paper, we propose a fast object detection method by taking advantage of this with a novel Motion aided Memory Network (MMNet). The MMNet has two major advantages: 1) It significantly accelerates the procedure of feature extraction for compressed videos. It only need to run a complete recognition network for I-frames, i.e. a few reference frames in a video, and it produces the features for the following P frames (predictive frames) with a light weight memory network, which runs fast; 2) Unlike existing methods that establish an additional network to model motion of frames, we take full advantage of both motion vectors and residual errors that are freely available in video streams. To our best knowledge, the MMNet is the first work that investigates a deep convolutional detector on compressed videos. Our method is evaluated on the large-scale ImageNet VID dataset, and the results show that it is 3x times faster than single image detector R-FCN and 10x times faster than high-performance detector MANet at a minor accuracy loss.

Semantic image segmentation, which becomes one of the key applications in image processing and computer vision domain, has been used in multiple domains such as medical area and intelligent transportation. Lots of benchmark datasets are released for researchers to verify their algorithms. Semantic segmentation has been studied for many years. Since the emergence of Deep Neural Network (DNN), segmentation has made a tremendous progress. In this paper, we divide semantic image segmentation methods into two categories: traditional and recent DNN method. Firstly, we briefly summarize the traditional method as well as datasets released for segmentation, then we comprehensively investigate recent methods based on DNN which are described in the eight aspects: fully convolutional network, upsample ways, FCN joint with CRF methods, dilated convolution approaches, progresses in backbone network, pyramid methods, Multi-level feature and multi-stage method, supervised, weakly-supervised and unsupervised methods. Finally, a conclusion in this area is drawn.

SegStereo: Exploiting Semantic Information for Disparity EstimationGuorun Yang, Hengshuang Zhao, Jianping Shi et al.
Disparity estimation for binocular stereo images finds a wide range of applications. Traditional algorithms may fail on featureless regions, which could be handled by high-level clues such as semantic segments. In this paper, we suggest that appropriate incorporation of semantic cues can greatly rectify prediction in commonly-used disparity estimation frameworks. Our method conducts semantic feature embedding and regularizes semantic cues as the loss term to improve learning disparity. Our unified model SegStereo employs semantic features from segmentation and introduces semantic softmax loss, which helps improve the prediction accuracy of disparity maps. The semantic cues work well in both unsupervised and supervised manners. SegStereo achieves state-of-the-art results on KITTI Stereo benchmark and produces decent prediction on both CityScapes and FlyingThings3D datasets.
