Battery health prognosis using Physics-informed neural network with Quantum Feature mappingMuhammad Imran Hossain, Md Fazley Rafy, Sarika Khushalani Solanki et al.
Accurate battery health prognosis using State of Health (SOH) estimation is essential for the reliability of multi-scale battery energy storage, yet existing methods are limited in generalizability across diverse battery chemistries and operating conditions. The inability of standard neural networks to capture the complex, high-dimensional physics of battery degradation is a major contributor to these limitations. To address this, a physics-informed neural network with the Quantum Feature Mapping(QFM) technique (QPINN) is proposed. QPINN projects raw battery sensor data into a high-dimensional Hilbert space, creating a highly expressive feature set that effectively captures subtle, non-linear degradation patterns using Nyström method. These quantum-enhanced features are then processed by a physics-informed network that enforces physical constraints. The proposed method achieves an average SOH estimation accuracy of 99.46\% across different datasets, substantially outperforming state-of-the-art baselines, with reductions in MAPE and RMSE of up to 65\% and 62\%, respectively. This method was validated on a large-scale, multi-chemistry dataset of 310,705 samples from 387 cells, and further showed notable adaptability in cross-validation settings, successfully transferring from one chemistry to another without relying on target-domain SOH labels.

An empirical study for the early detection of Mpox from skin lesion images using pretrained CNN models leveraging XAI techniqueMohammad Asifur Rahim, Muhammad Nazmul Arefin, Md. Mizanur Rahman et al.
Context: Mpox is a zoonotic disease caused by the Mpox virus, which shares similarities with other skin conditions, making accurate early diagnosis challenging. Artificial intelligence (AI), especially Deep Learning (DL), has a strong tool for medical image analysis; however, pre-trained models like CNNs and XAI techniques for mpox detection is underexplored. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of pre-trained CNN models (VGG16, VGG19, InceptionV3, MobileNetV2) for the early detection of monkeypox using binary and multi-class datasets. It also seeks to enhance model interpretability using Grad-CAM an XAI technique. Method: Two datasets, MSLD and MSLD v2.0, were used for training and validation. Transfer learning techniques were applied to fine-tune pre-trained CNN models by freezing initial layers and adding custom layers for adapting the final features for mpox detection task and avoid overfitting. Models performance were evaluated using metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score and ROC. Grad-CAM was utilized for visualizing critical features. Results: InceptionV3 demonstrated the best performance on the binary dataset with an accuracy of 95%, while MobileNetV2 outperformed on the multi-class dataset with an accuracy of 93%. Grad-CAM successfully highlighted key image regions. Despite high accuracy, some models showed overfitting tendencies, as videnced by discrepancies between training and validation losses. Conclusion: This study underscores the potential of pre-trained CNN models in monkeypox detection and the value of XAI techniques. Future work should address dataset limitations, incorporate multimodal data, and explore additional interpretability techniques to improve diagnostic reliability and model transparency
TaLU: A Hybrid Activation Function Combining Tanh and Rectified Linear Unit to Enhance Neural NetworksMd. Mehedi Hasan, Md. Ali Hossain, Azmain Yakin Srizon et al.
The application of the deep learning model in classification plays an important role in the accurate detection of the target objects. However, the accuracy is affected by the activation function in the hidden and output layer. In this paper, an activation function called TaLU, which is a combination of Tanh and Rectified Linear Units (ReLU), is used to improve the prediction. ReLU activation function is used by many deep learning researchers for its computational efficiency, ease of implementation, intuitive nature, etc. However, it suffers from a dying gradient problem. For instance, when the input is negative, its output is always zero because its gradient is zero. A number of researchers used different approaches to solve this issue. Some of the most notable are LeakyReLU, Softplus, Softsign, ELU, ThresholdedReLU, etc. This research developed TaLU, a modified activation function combining Tanh and ReLU, which mitigates the dying gradient problem of ReLU. The deep learning model with the proposed activation function was tested on MNIST and CIFAR-10, and it outperforms ReLU and some other studied activation functions in terms of accuracy(upto 6% in most cases, when used with Batch Normalization and a reasonable learning rate).

Implementation of Radon Transformation for Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT)Md. Ali Hossain, Ahsan-Ul-Ambia, Md. Aktaruzzaman et al.
Radon Transformation is generally used to construct optical image (like CT image) from the projection data in biomedical imaging. In this paper, the concept of Radon Transformation is implemented to reconstruct Electrical Impedance Topographic Image (conductivity or resistivity distribution) of a circular subject. A parallel resistance model of a subject is proposed for Electrical Impedance Topography(EIT) or Magnetic Induction Tomography(MIT). A circular subject with embedded circular objects is segmented into equal width slices from different angles. For each angle, Conductance and Conductivity of each slice is calculated and stored in an array. A back projection method is used to generate a two-dimensional image from one-dimensional projections. As a back projection method, Inverse Radon Transformation is applied on the calculated conductance and conductivity to reconstruct two dimensional images. These images are compared to the target image. In the time of image reconstruction, different filters are used and these images are compared with each other and target image.
