Reinforced Structured State-Evolution for Vision-Language Navigation

Jinyu Chen, Chen Gao, Erli Meng et al.

Vision-and-language Navigation (VLN) task requires an embodied agent to navigate to a remote location following a natural language instruction. Previous methods usually adopt a sequence model (e.g., Transformer and LSTM) as the navigator. In such a paradigm, the sequence model predicts action at each step through a maintained navigation state, which is generally represented as a one-dimensional vector. However, the crucial navigation clues (i.e., object-level environment layout) for embodied navigation task is discarded since the maintained vector is essentially unstructured. In this paper, we propose a novel Structured state-Evolution (SEvol) model to effectively maintain the environment layout clues for VLN. Specifically, we utilise the graph-based feature to represent the navigation state instead of the vector-based state. Accordingly, we devise a Reinforced Layout clues Miner (RLM) to mine and detect the most crucial layout graph for long-term navigation via a customised reinforcement learning strategy. Moreover, the Structured Evolving Module (SEM) is proposed to maintain the structured graph-based state during navigation, where the state is gradually evolved to learn the object-level spatial-temporal relationship. The experiments on the R2R and R4R datasets show that the proposed SEvol model improves VLN models' performance by large margins, e.g., +3% absolute SPL accuracy for NvEM and +8% for EnvDrop on the R2R test set.

Time Series Reasoning via Process-Verifiable Thinking Data Synthesis and Scheduling for Tailored LLM Reasoning

Jiahui Zhou, Dan Li, Boxin Li et al.

Time series is a pervasive data type across various application domains, rendering the reasonable solving of diverse time series tasks a long-standing goal. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs), especially their reasoning abilities unlocked through reinforcement learning (RL), have opened new opportunities for tackling tasks with long Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning. However, leveraging LLM reasoning for time series remains in its infancy, hindered by the absence of carefully curated time series CoT data for training, limited data efficiency caused by underexplored data scheduling, and the lack of RL algorithms tailored for exploiting such time series CoT data. In this paper, we introduce VeriTime, a framework that tailors LLMs for time series reasoning through data synthesis, data scheduling, and RL training. First, we propose a data synthesis pipeline that constructs a TS-text multimodal dataset with process-verifiable annotations. Second, we design a data scheduling mechanism that arranges training samples according to a principled hierarchy of difficulty and task taxonomy. Third, we develop a two-stage reinforcement finetuning featuring fine-grained, multi-objective rewards that leverage verifiable process-level CoT data. Extensive experiments show that VeriTime substantially boosts LLM performance across diverse time series reasoning tasks. Notably, it enables compact 3B, 4B models to achieve reasoning capabilities on par with or exceeding those of larger proprietary LLMs.

WaveMoE: A Wavelet-Enhanced Mixture-of-Experts Foundation Model for Time Series Forecasting

Shunyu Wu, Jiawei Huang, Weibin Feng et al.

Time series foundation models (TSFMs) have recently achieved remarkable success in universal forecasting by leveraging large-scale pretraining on diverse time series data. Complementing this progress, incorporating frequency-domain information yields promising performance in enhancing the modeling of complex temporal patterns, such as periodicity and localized high-frequency dynamics, which are prevalent in real-world time series. To advance this direction, we propose a new perspective that integrates explicit frequency-domain representations into scalable foundation models, and introduce WaveMoE, a wavelet-enhanced mixture-of-experts foundation model for time series forecasting. WaveMoE adopts a dual-path architecture that jointly processes time series tokens and wavelet tokens aligned along a unified temporal axis, and coordinates them through a shared expert routing mechanism that enables consistent expert specialization while efficiently scaling model capacity. Preliminary experimental results on 16 diverse benchmark datasets indicate that WaveMoE has the potential to further improve forecasting performance by incorporating wavelet-domain corpora.

Empowering VLMs for Few-Shot Multimodal Time Series Classification via Tailored Agentic Reasoning

Lin Li, Jiawei Huang, Qihao Quan et al.

In this paper, we propose the first VL$\underline{\textbf{M}}$ $\underline{\textbf{a}}$gentic $\underline{\textbf{r}}$easoning framework for few-$\underline{\textbf{s}}$hot multimodal $\underline{\textbf{T}}$ime $\underline{\textbf{S}}$eries $\underline{\textbf{C}}$lassification ($\textbf{MarsTSC}$), which introduces a self-evolving knowledge bank as a dynamic context iteratively refined via reflective agentic reasoning. The framework comprises three collaborative roles: i) Generator conducts reliable classification via reasoning; ii) Reflector diagnoses the root causes of reasoning errors to yield discriminative insights targeting the temporal features overlooked by Generator; iii) Modifier applies verified updates to the knowledge bank to prevent context collapse. We further introduce a test-time update strategy to enable cautious, continuous knowledge bank refinement to mitigate few-shot bias and distribution shift. Extensive experiments across 12 mainstream time series benchmarks demonstrate that $\textbf{MarsTSC}$ delivers substantial and consistent performance gains across 6 VLM backbones, outperforming both classical and foundation model-based time series baselines under few-shot conditions, while producing interpretable rationales that ground each classification decision in human-readable feature evidence.

Porous Lattice-based Transformer Encoder for Chinese NER

Xue Mengge, Yu Bowen, Liu Tingwen et al.

Incorporating lattices into character-level Chinese named entity recognition is an effective method to exploit explicit word information. Recent works extend recurrent and convolutional neural networks to model lattice inputs. However, due to the DAG structure or the variable-sized potential word set for lattice inputs, these models prevent the convenient use of batched computation, resulting in serious inefficient. In this paper, we propose a porous lattice-based transformer encoder for Chinese named entity recognition, which is capable to better exploit the GPU parallelism and batch the computation owing to the mask mechanism in transformer. We first investigate the lattice-aware self-attention coupled with relative position representations to explore effective word information in the lattice structure. Besides, to strengthen the local dependencies among neighboring tokens, we propose a novel porous structure during self-attentional computation processing, in which every two non-neighboring tokens are connected through a shared pivot node. Experimental results on four datasets show that our model performs up to 9.47 times faster than state-of-the-art models, while is roughly on a par with its performance. Just a Few Glances: Open-Set Visual Perception with Image Prompt Paradigm

Jinrong Zhang, Penghui Wang, Chunxiao Liu et al.

To break through the limitations of pre-training models on fixed categories, Open-Set Object Detection (OSOD) and Open-Set Segmentation (OSS) have attracted a surge of interest from researchers. Inspired by large language models, mainstream OSOD and OSS methods generally utilize text as a prompt, achieving remarkable performance. Following SAM paradigm, some researchers use visual prompts, such as points, boxes, and masks that cover detection or segmentation targets. Despite these two prompt paradigms exhibit excellent performance, they also reveal inherent limitations. On the one hand, it is difficult to accurately describe characteristics of specialized category using textual description. On the other hand, existing visual prompt paradigms heavily rely on multi-round human interaction, which hinders them being applied to fully automated pipeline. To address the above issues, we propose a novel prompt paradigm in OSOD and OSS, that is, \textbf{Image Prompt Paradigm}. This brand new prompt paradigm enables to detect or segment specialized categories without multi-round human intervention. To achieve this goal, the proposed image prompt paradigm uses just a few image instances as prompts, and we propose a novel framework named \textbf{MI Grounding} for this new paradigm. In this framework, high-quality image prompts are automatically encoded, selected and fused, achieving the single-stage and non-interactive inference. We conduct extensive experiments on public datasets, showing that MI Grounding achieves competitive performance on OSOD and OSS benchmarks compared to text prompt paradigm methods and visual prompt paradigm methods. Moreover, MI Grounding can greatly outperform existing method on our constructed specialized ADR50K dataset.

Pre-training with Meta Learning for Chinese Word Segmentation

Zhen Ke, Liang Shi, Songtao Sun et al.

Recent researches show that pre-trained models (PTMs) are beneficial to Chinese Word Segmentation (CWS). However, PTMs used in previous works usually adopt language modeling as pre-training tasks, lacking task-specific prior segmentation knowledge and ignoring the discrepancy between pre-training tasks and downstream CWS tasks. In this paper, we propose a CWS-specific pre-trained model METASEG, which employs a unified architecture and incorporates meta learning algorithm into a multi-criteria pre-training task. Empirical results show that METASEG could utilize common prior segmentation knowledge from different existing criteria and alleviate the discrepancy between pre-trained models and downstream CWS tasks. Besides, METASEG can achieve new state-of-the-art performance on twelve widely-used CWS datasets and significantly improve model performance in low-resource settings.

Unified Multi-Criteria Chinese Word Segmentation with BERT

Zhen Ke, Liang Shi, Erli Meng et al.

Multi-Criteria Chinese Word Segmentation (MCCWS) aims at finding word boundaries in a Chinese sentence composed of continuous characters while multiple segmentation criteria exist. The unified framework has been widely used in MCCWS and shows its effectiveness. Besides, the pre-trained BERT language model has been also introduced into the MCCWS task in a multi-task learning framework. In this paper, we combine the superiority of the unified framework and pretrained language model, and propose a unified MCCWS model based on BERT. Moreover, we augment the unified BERT-based MCCWS model with the bigram features and an auxiliary criterion classification task. Experiments on eight datasets with diverse criteria demonstrate that our methods could achieve new state-of-the-art results for MCCWS.
