Learning to Answer Questions in Dynamic Audio-Visual ScenariosGuangyao Li, Yake Wei, Yapeng Tian et al.
In this paper, we focus on the Audio-Visual Question Answering (AVQA) task, which aims to answer questions regarding different visual objects, sounds, and their associations in videos. The problem requires comprehensive multimodal understanding and spatio-temporal reasoning over audio-visual scenes. To benchmark this task and facilitate our study, we introduce a large-scale MUSIC-AVQA dataset, which contains more than 45K question-answer pairs covering 33 different question templates spanning over different modalities and question types. We develop several baselines and introduce a spatio-temporal grounded audio-visual network for the AVQA problem. Our results demonstrate that AVQA benefits from multisensory perception and our model outperforms recent A-, V-, and AVQA approaches. We believe that our built dataset has the potential to serve as testbed for evaluating and promoting progress in audio-visual scene understanding and spatio-temporal reasoning. Progressive Spatio-temporal Perception for Audio-Visual Question AnsweringGuangyao Li, Wenxuan Hou, Di Hu
Audio-Visual Question Answering (AVQA) task aims to answer questions about different visual objects, sounds, and their associations in videos. Such naturally multi-modal videos are composed of rich and complex dynamic audio-visual components, where most of which could be unrelated to the given questions, or even play as interference in answering the content of interest. Oppositely, only focusing on the question-aware audio-visual content could get rid of influence, meanwhile enabling the model to answer more efficiently. In this paper, we propose a Progressive Spatio-Temporal Perception Network (PSTP-Net), which contains three modules that progressively identify key spatio-temporal regions w.r.t. questions. Specifically, a temporal segment selection module is first introduced to select the most relevant audio-visual segments related to the given question. Then, a spatial region selection module is utilized to choose the most relevant regions associated with the question from the selected temporal segments. To further refine the selection of features, an audio-guided visual attention module is employed to perceive the association between auido and selected spatial regions. Finally, the spatio-temporal features from these modules are integrated for answering the question. Extensive experimental results on the public MUSIC-AVQA and AVQA datasets provide compelling evidence of the effectiveness and efficiency of PSTP-Net. Boosting Audio Visual Question Answering via Key Semantic-Aware CuesGuangyao Li, Henghui Du, Di Hu
The Audio Visual Question Answering (AVQA) task aims to answer questions related to various visual objects, sounds, and their interactions in videos. Such naturally multimodal videos contain rich and complex dynamic audio-visual components, with only a portion of them closely related to the given questions. Hence, effectively perceiving audio-visual cues relevant to the given questions is crucial for correctly answering them. In this paper, we propose a Temporal-Spatial Perception Model (TSPM), which aims to empower the model to perceive key visual and auditory cues related to the questions. Specifically, considering the challenge of aligning non-declarative questions and visual representations into the same semantic space using visual-language pretrained models, we construct declarative sentence prompts derived from the question template, to assist the temporal perception module in better identifying critical segments relevant to the questions. Subsequently, a spatial perception module is designed to merge visual tokens from selected segments to highlight key latent targets, followed by cross-modal interaction with audio to perceive potential sound-aware areas. Finally, the significant temporal-spatial cues from these modules are integrated to answer the question. Extensive experiments on multiple AVQA benchmarks demonstrate that our framework excels not only in understanding audio-visual scenes but also in answering complex questions effectively. Audio-Visual Instance SegmentationRuohao Guo, Xianghua Ying, Yaru Chen et al.
In this paper, we propose a new multi-modal task, termed audio-visual instance segmentation (AVIS), which aims to simultaneously identify, segment and track individual sounding object instances in audible videos. To facilitate this research, we introduce a high-quality benchmark named AVISeg, containing over 90K instance masks from 26 semantic categories in 926 long videos. Additionally, we propose a strong baseline model for this task. Our model first localizes sound source within each frame, and condenses object-specific contexts into concise tokens. Then it builds long-range audio-visual dependencies between these tokens using window-based attention, and tracks sounding objects among the entire video sequences. Extensive experiments reveal that our method performs best on AVISeg, surpassing the existing methods from related tasks. We further conduct the evaluation on several multi-modal large models. Unfortunately, they exhibits subpar performance on instance-level sound source localization and temporal perception. Heterogeneous Federated Knowledge Graph Embedding Learning and UnlearningXiangrong Zhu, Guangyao Li, Wei Hu
Federated Learning (FL) recently emerges as a paradigm to train a global machine learning model across distributed clients without sharing raw data. Knowledge Graph (KG) embedding represents KGs in a continuous vector space, serving as the backbone of many knowledge-driven applications. As a promising combination, federated KG embedding can fully take advantage of knowledge learned from different clients while preserving the privacy of local data. However, realistic problems such as data heterogeneity and knowledge forgetting still remain to be concerned. In this paper, we propose FedLU, a novel FL framework for heterogeneous KG embedding learning and unlearning. To cope with the drift between local optimization and global convergence caused by data heterogeneity, we propose mutual knowledge distillation to transfer local knowledge to global, and absorb global knowledge back. Moreover, we present an unlearning method based on cognitive neuroscience, which combines retroactive interference and passive decay to erase specific knowledge from local clients and propagate to the global model by reusing knowledge distillation. We construct new datasets for assessing realistic performance of the state-of-the-arts. Extensive experiments show that FedLU achieves superior results in both link prediction and knowledge forgetting.

MECPformer: Multi-estimations Complementary Patch with CNN-Transformers for Weakly Supervised Semantic SegmentationChunmeng Liu, Guangyao Li, Yao Shen et al.
The initial seed based on the convolutional neural network (CNN) for weakly supervised semantic segmentation always highlights the most discriminative regions but fails to identify the global target information. Methods based on transformers have been proposed successively benefiting from the advantage of capturing long-range feature representations. However, we observe a flaw regardless of the gifts based on the transformer. Given a class, the initial seeds generated based on the transformer may invade regions belonging to other classes. Inspired by the mentioned issues, we devise a simple yet effective method with Multi-estimations Complementary Patch (MECP) strategy and Adaptive Conflict Module (ACM), dubbed MECPformer. Given an image, we manipulate it with the MECP strategy at different epochs, and the network mines and deeply fuses the semantic information at different levels. In addition, ACM adaptively removes conflicting pixels and exploits the network self-training capability to mine potential target information. Without bells and whistles, our MECPformer has reached new state-of-the-art 72.0% mIoU on the PASCAL VOC 2012 and 42.4% on MS COCO 2014 dataset. EvolvingAgent: Curriculum Self-evolving Agent with Continual World Model for Long-Horizon TasksTongtong Feng, Xin Wang, Zekai Zhou et al.
Completing Long-Horizon (LH) tasks in open-ended worlds is an important yet difficult problem for embodied agents. Existing approaches suffer from two key challenges: (1) they heavily rely on experiences obtained from human-created data or curricula, failing to autonomously update and select multimodal experiences, and (2) they may encounter catastrophic forgetting issues when faced with new tasks, failing to autonomously update world knowledge. To solve these challenges, this paper presents {\bf EvolvingAgent}, a curriculum self-evolving agent with a continual World Model (WM), which can autonomously complete various LH tasks across environments through self-planning, self-control, and self-reflection, without human intervention. Specifically, EvolvingAgent contains three modules, i.e., i) the experience-driven task planner, which uses an LLM along with multimodal experiences to convert LH tasks into executable sub-tasks; ii) the WM-guided action controller, which leverages WM to generate low-level actions and incorporates a self-verification mechanism to update multimodal experiences; iii) the Curriculum Learning (CL) -based reflector, which implements a two-stage CL algorithm to select multimodal experiences for task-adaptive WM updates. By building a planner-controller-reflector closed-loop dynamic, the continual WM for EvolvingAgent can autonomously update multimodal experiences and world knowledge. We conducted extensive experiments on Minecraft, compared with existing methods, EvolvingAgent can improve 111.74{\%} average success rate, reduce more than 6x ineffective actions, and generalize to the Atari environment with human-level performance.

Multi-weather Cross-view Geo-localization Using Denoising Diffusion ModelsTongtong Feng, Qing Li, Xin Wang et al.
Cross-view geo-localization in GNSS-denied environments aims to determine an unknown location by matching drone-view images with the correct geo-tagged satellite-view images from a large gallery. Recent research shows that learning discriminative image representations under specific weather conditions can significantly enhance performance. However, the frequent occurrence of unseen extreme weather conditions hinders progress. This paper introduces MCGF, a Multi-weather Cross-view Geo-localization Framework designed to dynamically adapt to unseen weather conditions. MCGF establishes a joint optimization between image restoration and geo-localization using denoising diffusion models. For image restoration, MCGF incorporates a shared encoder and a lightweight restoration module to help the backbone eliminate weather-specific information. For geo-localization, MCGF uses EVA-02 as a backbone for feature extraction, with cross-entropy loss for training and cosine distance for testing. Extensive experiments on University160k-WX demonstrate that MCGF achieves competitive results for geo-localization in varying weather conditions.

WegFormer: Transformers for Weakly Supervised Semantic SegmentationChunmeng Liu, Enze Xie, Wenjia Wang et al.
Although convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved remarkable progress in weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS), the effective receptive field of CNN is insufficient to capture global context information, leading to sub-optimal results. Inspired by the great success of Transformers in fundamental vision areas, this work for the first time introduces Transformer to build a simple and effective WSSS framework, termed WegFormer. Unlike existing CNN-based methods, WegFormer uses Vision Transformer (ViT) as a classifier to produce high-quality pseudo segmentation masks. To this end, we introduce three tailored components in our Transformer-based framework, which are (1) a Deep Taylor Decomposition (DTD) to generate attention maps, (2) a soft erasing module to smooth the attention maps, and (3) an efficient potential object mining (EPOM) to filter noisy activation in the background. Without any bells and whistles, WegFormer achieves state-of-the-art 70.5% mIoU on the PASCAL VOC dataset, significantly outperforming the previous best method. We hope WegFormer provides a new perspective to tap the potential of Transformer in weakly supervised semantic segmentation. Code will be released.

CM-PIE: Cross-modal perception for interactive-enhanced audio-visual video parsingYaru Chen, Ruohao Guo, Xubo Liu et al.
Audio-visual video parsing is the task of categorizing a video at the segment level with weak labels, and predicting them as audible or visible events. Recent methods for this task leverage the attention mechanism to capture the semantic correlations among the whole video across the audio-visual modalities. However, these approaches have overlooked the importance of individual segments within a video and the relationship among them, and tend to rely on a single modality when learning features. In this paper, we propose a novel interactive-enhanced cross-modal perception method~(CM-PIE), which can learn fine-grained features by applying a segment-based attention module. Furthermore, a cross-modal aggregation block is introduced to jointly optimize the semantic representation of audio and visual signals by enhancing inter-modal interactions. The experimental results show that our model offers improved parsing performance on the Look, Listen, and Parse dataset compared to other methods.

I Know What You Do Not Know: Knowledge Graph Embedding via Co-distillation LearningYang Liu, Zequn Sun, Guangyao Li et al.
Knowledge graph (KG) embedding seeks to learn vector representations for entities and relations. Conventional models reason over graph structures, but they suffer from the issues of graph incompleteness and long-tail entities. Recent studies have used pre-trained language models to learn embeddings based on the textual information of entities and relations, but they cannot take advantage of graph structures. In the paper, we show empirically that these two kinds of features are complementary for KG embedding. To this end, we propose CoLE, a Co-distillation Learning method for KG Embedding that exploits the complementarity of graph structures and text information. Its graph embedding model employs Transformer to reconstruct the representation of an entity from its neighborhood subgraph. Its text embedding model uses a pre-trained language model to generate entity representations from the soft prompts of their names, descriptions, and relational neighbors. To let the two model promote each other, we propose co-distillation learning that allows them to distill selective knowledge from each other's prediction logits. In our co-distillation learning, each model serves as both a teacher and a student. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that the two models outperform their related baselines, and the ensemble method CoLE with co-distillation learning advances the state-of-the-art of KG embedding.

EventEA: Benchmarking Entity Alignment for Event-centric Knowledge GraphsXiaobin Tian, Zequn Sun, Guangyao Li et al.
Entity alignment is to find identical entities in different knowledge graphs (KGs) that refer to the same real-world object. Embedding-based entity alignment techniques have been drawing a lot of attention recently because they can help solve the issue of symbolic heterogeneity in different KGs. However, in this paper, we show that the progress made in the past was due to biased and unchallenging evaluation. We highlight two major flaws in existing datasets that favor embedding-based entity alignment techniques, i.e., the isomorphic graph structures in relation triples and the weak heterogeneity in attribute triples. Towards a critical evaluation of embedding-based entity alignment methods, we construct a new dataset with heterogeneous relations and attributes based on event-centric KGs. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate existing popular methods, and find that they fail to achieve promising performance. As a new approach to this difficult problem, we propose a time-aware literal encoder for entity alignment. The dataset and source code are publicly available to foster future research. Our work calls for more effective and practical embedding-based solutions to entity alignment.

Prompting Segmentation with Sound Is Generalizable Audio-Visual Source LocalizerYaoting Wang, Weisong Liu, Guangyao Li et al.
Never having seen an object and heard its sound simultaneously, can the model still accurately localize its visual position from the input audio? In this work, we concentrate on the Audio-Visual Localization and Segmentation tasks but under the demanding zero-shot and few-shot scenarios. To achieve this goal, different from existing approaches that mostly employ the encoder-fusion-decoder paradigm to decode localization information from the fused audio-visual feature, we introduce the encoder-prompt-decoder paradigm, aiming to better fit the data scarcity and varying data distribution dilemmas with the help of abundant knowledge from pre-trained models. Specifically, we first propose to construct Semantic-aware Audio Prompt (SAP) to help the visual foundation model focus on sounding objects, meanwhile, the semantic gap between the visual and audio modalities is also encouraged to shrink. Then, we develop a Correlation Adapter (ColA) to keep minimal training efforts as well as maintain adequate knowledge of the visual foundation model. By equipping with these means, extensive experiments demonstrate that this new paradigm outperforms other fusion-based methods in both the unseen class and cross-dataset settings. We hope that our work can further promote the generalization study of Audio-Visual Localization and Segmentation in practical application scenarios.

Ref-AVS: Refer and Segment Objects in Audio-Visual ScenesYaoting Wang, Peiwen Sun, Dongzhan Zhou et al.
Traditional reference segmentation tasks have predominantly focused on silent visual scenes, neglecting the integral role of multimodal perception and interaction in human experiences. In this work, we introduce a novel task called Reference Audio-Visual Segmentation (Ref-AVS), which seeks to segment objects within the visual domain based on expressions containing multimodal cues. Such expressions are articulated in natural language forms but are enriched with multimodal cues, including audio and visual descriptions. To facilitate this research, we construct the first Ref-AVS benchmark, which provides pixel-level annotations for objects described in corresponding multimodal-cue expressions. To tackle the Ref-AVS task, we propose a new method that adequately utilizes multimodal cues to offer precise segmentation guidance. Finally, we conduct quantitative and qualitative experiments on three test subsets to compare our approach with existing methods from related tasks. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, highlighting its capability to precisely segment objects using multimodal-cue expressions. PhyVLLM: Physics-Guided Video Language Model with Motion-Appearance DisentanglementYu-Wei Zhan, Xin Wang, Hong Chen et al.
Video Large Language Models (Video LLMs) have shown impressive performance across a wide range of video-language tasks. However, they often fail in scenarios requiring a deeper understanding of physical dynamics. This limitation primarily arises from their reliance on appearance-based matching. Incorporating physical motion modeling is crucial for deeper video understanding, but presents three key challenges: (1) motion signals are often entangled with appearance variations, making it difficult to extract clean physical cues; (2) effective motion modeling requires not only continuous-time motion representations but also capturing physical dynamics; and (3) collecting accurate annotations for physical attributes is costly and often impractical. To address these issues, we propose PhyVLLM, a physical-guided video-language framework that explicitly incorporates physical motion into Video LLMs. Specifically, PhyVLLM disentangles visual appearance and object motion through a dual-branch encoder. To model physical dynamics over time, we incorporate a Neural Ordinary Differential Equation (Neural ODE) module, which generates differentiable physical dynamic representations. The resulting motion-aware representations are projected into the token space of a pretrained LLM, enabling physics reasoning without compromising the model's original multimodal capabilities. To circumvent the need for explicit physical labels, PhyVLLM employs a self-supervised manner to model the continuous evolution of object motion. Experimental results demonstrate that PhyVLLM significantly outperforms state-of-the-art Video LLMs on both physical reasoning and general video understanding tasks, highlighting the advantages of incorporating explicit physical modeling.

Crab: A Unified Audio-Visual Scene Understanding Model with Explicit CooperationHenghui Du, Guangyao Li, Chang Zhou et al.
In recent years, numerous tasks have been proposed to encourage model to develop specified capability in understanding audio-visual scene, primarily categorized into temporal localization, spatial localization, spatio-temporal reasoning, and pixel-level understanding. Instead, human possesses a unified understanding ability for diversified tasks. Therefore, designing an audio-visual model with general capability to unify these tasks is of great value. However, simply joint training for all tasks can lead to interference due to the heterogeneity of audiovisual data and complex relationship among tasks. We argue that this problem can be solved through explicit cooperation among tasks. To achieve this goal, we propose a unified learning method which achieves explicit inter-task cooperation from both the perspectives of data and model thoroughly. Specifically, considering the labels of existing datasets are simple words, we carefully refine these datasets and construct an Audio-Visual Unified Instruction-tuning dataset with Explicit reasoning process (AV-UIE), which clarifies the cooperative relationship among tasks. Subsequently, to facilitate concrete cooperation in learning stage, an interaction-aware LoRA structure with multiple LoRA heads is designed to learn different aspects of audiovisual data interaction. By unifying the explicit cooperation across the data and model aspect, our method not only surpasses existing unified audio-visual model on multiple tasks, but also outperforms most specialized models for certain tasks. Furthermore, we also visualize the process of explicit cooperation and surprisingly find that each LoRA head has certain audio-visual understanding ability. Multi-Scale Attention for Audio Question AnsweringGuangyao Li, Yixin Xu, Di Hu
Audio question answering (AQA), acting as a widely used proxy task to explore scene understanding, has got more attention. The AQA is challenging for it requires comprehensive temporal reasoning from different scales' events of an audio scene. However, existing methods mostly extend the structures of visual question answering task to audio ones in a simple pattern but may not perform well when perceiving a fine-grained audio scene. To this end, we present a Multi-scale Window Attention Fusion Model (MWAFM) consisting of an asynchronous hybrid attention module and a multi-scale window attention module. The former is designed to aggregate unimodal and cross-modal temporal contexts, while the latter captures sound events of varying lengths and their temporal dependencies for a more comprehensive understanding. Self-supervised Audiovisual Representation Learning for Remote Sensing DataKonrad Heidler, Lichao Mou, Di Hu et al.
Many current deep learning approaches make extensive use of backbone networks pre-trained on large datasets like ImageNet, which are then fine-tuned to perform a certain task. In remote sensing, the lack of comparable large annotated datasets and the wide diversity of sensing platforms impedes similar developments. In order to contribute towards the availability of pre-trained backbone networks in remote sensing, we devise a self-supervised approach for pre-training deep neural networks. By exploiting the correspondence between geo-tagged audio recordings and remote sensing imagery, this is done in a completely label-free manner, eliminating the need for laborious manual annotation. For this purpose, we introduce the SoundingEarth dataset, which consists of co-located aerial imagery and audio samples all around the world. Using this dataset, we then pre-train ResNet models to map samples from both modalities into a common embedding space, which encourages the models to understand key properties of a scene that influence both visual and auditory appearance. To validate the usefulness of the proposed approach, we evaluate the transfer learning performance of pre-trained weights obtained against weights obtained through other means. By fine-tuning the models on a number of commonly used remote sensing datasets, we show that our approach outperforms existing pre-training strategies for remote sensing imagery. LEGO-MOF: Equivariant Latent Manipulation for Editable, Generative, and Optimizable MOF DesignChaoran Zhang, Guangyao Li, Dongxu Ji
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly promising for carbon capture, yet navigating their vast design space remains challenging. Recent deep generative models enable de novo MOF design but primarily act as feed-forward structure generators. By heavily relying on predefined building block libraries and non-differentiable post-optimization, they fundamentally sever the information flow required for continuous structural editing. Here, we propose a target-driven generative framework focused on continuous structural manipulation. At its core is LinkerVAE, which maps discrete 3D chemical graphs into a continuous, SE(3)-equivariant latent space. This smooth manifold unlocks geometry-aware manipulations, including implicit chemical style transfer and zero-shot isoreticular expansion. Building upon this, we introduce a test-time optimization (TTO) strategy, utilizing an accurate surrogate model to continuously optimize the latent graphs of existing MOFs toward desired properties. This approach systematically enhances carbon capture performance, achieving a striking average relative boost of 147.5% in pure CO2 uptake while strictly preserving structural validity. Integrated with a latent diffusion model and rigid-body assembly for full MOF construction, our framework establishes a scalable, fully differentiable pathway for both the automated discovery, targeted optimization and editing of functional materials.

Mettle: Meta-Token Learning for Memory-Efficient Audio-Visual AdaptationJinxing Zhou, Zhihui Li, Yongqiang Yu et al.
We present \textbf{Met}a-\textbf{T}oken \textbf{Le}arning (Mettle), a simple and memory-efficient method for adapting large-scale pretrained transformer models to downstream audio-visual tasks. Instead of sequentially modifying the output feature distribution of the transformer backbone, Mettle utilizes a lightweight \textit{Layer-Centric Distillation (LCD)} module to distill in parallel the intact audio or visual features embedded by each transformer layer into compact meta-tokens. This distillation process considers both pretrained knowledge preservation and task-specific adaptation. The obtained meta-tokens can be directly applied to classification tasks, such as audio-visual event localization and audio-visual video parsing. To further support fine-grained segmentation tasks, such as audio-visual segmentation, we introduce a \textit{Meta-Token Injection (MTI)} module, which utilizes the audio and visual meta-tokens distilled from the top transformer layer to guide feature adaptation in earlier layers. Extensive experiments on multiple audiovisual benchmarks demonstrate that our method significantly reduces memory usage and training time while maintaining parameter efficiency and competitive accuracy.

Adaptive Prompt Learning with SAM for Few-shot Scanning Probe Microscope Image SegmentationYao Shen, Ziwei Wei, Chunmeng Liu et al.
The Segment Anything Model (SAM) has demonstrated strong performance in image segmentation of natural scene images. However, its effectiveness diminishes markedly when applied to specific scientific domains, such as Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM) images. This decline in accuracy can be attributed to the distinct data distribution and limited availability of the data inherent in the scientific images. On the other hand, the acquisition of adequate SPM datasets is both time-intensive and laborious as well as skill-dependent. To address these challenges, we propose an Adaptive Prompt Learning with SAM (APL-SAM) framework tailored for few-shot SPM image segmentation. Our approach incorporates two key innovations to enhance SAM: 1) An Adaptive Prompt Learning module leverages few-shot embeddings derived from limited support set to learn adaptively central representatives, serving as visual prompts. This innovation eliminates the need for time-consuming online user interactions for providing prompts, such as exhaustively marking points and bounding boxes slice by slice; 2) A multi-source, multi-level mask decoder specifically designed for few-shot SPM image segmentation is introduced, which can effectively capture the correspondence between the support and query images. To facilitate comprehensive training and evaluation, we introduce a new dataset, SPM-Seg, curated for SPM image segmentation. Extensive experiments on this dataset reveal that the proposed APL-SAM framework significantly outperforms the original SAM, achieving over a 30% improvement in terms of Dice Similarity Coefficient with only one-shot guidance. Moreover, APL-SAM surpasses state-of-the-art few-shot segmentation methods and even fully supervised approaches in performance. Think with Grounding: Curriculum Reinforced Reasoning with Video Grounding for Long Video UnderstandingHoulun Chen, Xin Wang, Guangyao Li et al.
Long video understanding is challenging due to rich and complicated multimodal clues in long temporal range.Current methods adopt reasoning to improve the model's ability to analyze complex video clues in long videos via text-form reasoning.However,the existing literature suffers from the fact that the text-only reasoning under fixed video context may exacerbate hallucinations since detailed crucial clues are often ignored under limited video context length due to the temporal redundancy of long videos.To address this gap,we propose Video-TwG,a curriculum reinforced framework that employs a novel Think-with-Grounding paradigm,enabling video LLMs to actively decide when to perform on-demand grounding during interleaved text-video reasoning, selectively zooming into question-relevant clips only when necessary.Video-TwG can be trained end-to-end in a straightforward manner, without relying on complex auxiliary modules or heavily annotated reasoning tracesIn detail,we design a Two-stage Reinforced Curriculum Strategy, where the model first learns think-with-grounding behavior on a small short-video GQA dataset with grounding labels,and then scales to diverse general QA data with videos of diverse domains to encourage generalization. Further, to handle complex think-with-grounding reasoning for various kinds of data,we propose TwG-GRPO algorithm which features the fine-grained grounding reward, self-confirmed pseudo reward and accuracy-gated mechanism.Finally,we propose to construct a new TwG-51K dataset that facilitates training. Experiments on Video-MME, LongVideoBench, and MLVU show that Video-TwG consistently outperforms strong LVU baselines.Further ablation validates the necessity of our Two-stage Reinforced Curriculum Strategy and shows our TwG-GRPO better leverages diverse unlabeled data to improve grounding quality and reduce redundant groundings without sacrificing QA performance.

AV-Unified: A Unified Framework for Audio-visual Scene UnderstandingGuangyao Li, Xin Wang, Wenwu Zhu
When humans perceive the world, they naturally integrate multiple audio-visual tasks within dynamic, real-world scenes. However, current works such as event localization, parsing, segmentation and question answering are mostly explored individually, making it challenging to comprehensively understand complex audio-visual scenes and explore inter-task relationships. Hence, we propose \textbf{AV-Unified}, a unified framework that enables joint learning across a wide range of audio-visual scene understanding tasks. AV-Unified standardizes the diverse input-output formats of each task and incorporates a multi-scale spatiotemporal perception network to effectively capture audio-visual associations. Specifically, we unify the inputs and outputs of all supported tasks by converting them into sequences of discrete tokens, establishing a shared representation that allows a single architecture to be trained jointly across heterogeneous varied datasets. Considering the varying temporal granularity of audio-visual events, a multi-scale temporal perception module is designed to capture key cues. Meanwhile, to overcome the lack of auditory supervision in the visual domain, we design a cross-modal guidance-based spatial perception module that models spatial audio-visual associations. Furthermore, task-specific text prompts are employed to enhance the model's adaptability and task-awareness. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets (e.g., AVE, LLP, MUSIC-AVQA, VGG-SS and AVS) demonstrate the effectiveness of AV-Unified across temporal, spatial, and spatiotemporal tasks.

Rule-Guided Graph Neural Networks for Recommender SystemsXinze Lyu, Guangyao Li, Jiacheng Huang et al.
To alleviate the cold start problem caused by collaborative filtering in recommender systems, knowledge graphs (KGs) are increasingly employed by many methods as auxiliary resources. However, existing work incorporated with KGs cannot capture the explicit long-range semantics between users and items meanwhile consider various connectivity between items. In this paper, we propose RGRec, which combines rule learning and graph neural networks (GNNs) for recommendation. RGRec first maps items to corresponding entities in KGs and adds users as new entities. Then, it automatically learns rules to model the explicit long-range semantics, and captures the connectivity between entities by aggregation to better encode various information. We show the effectiveness of RGRec on three real-world datasets. Particularly, the combination of rule learning and GNNs achieves substantial improvement compared to methods only using either of them.

Deep Inception Generative Network for Cognitive Image InpaintingQingguo Xiao, Guangyao Li, Qiaochuan Chen
Recent advances in deep learning have shown exciting promise in filling large holes and lead to another orientation for image inpainting. However, existing learning-based methods often create artifacts and fallacious textures because of insufficient cognition understanding. Previous generative networks are limited with single receptive type and give up pooling in consideration of detail sharpness. Human cognition is constant regardless of the target attribute. As multiple receptive fields improve the ability of abstract image characterization and pooling can keep feature invariant, specifically, deep inception learning is adopted to promote high-level feature representation and enhance model learning capacity for local patches. Moreover, approaches for generating diverse mask images are introduced and a random mask dataset is created. We benchmark our methods on ImageNet, Places2 dataset, and CelebA-HQ. Experiments for regular, irregular, and custom regions completion are all performed and free-style image inpainting is also presented. Quantitative comparisons with previous state-of-the-art methods show that ours obtain much more natural image completions.

Scene Text Detection with Supervised Pyramid Context NetworkEnze Xie, Yuhang Zang, Shuai Shao et al.
Scene text detection methods based on deep learning have achieved remarkable results over the past years. However, due to the high diversity and complexity of natural scenes, previous state-of-the-art text detection methods may still produce a considerable amount of false positives, when applied to images captured in real-world environments. To tackle this issue, mainly inspired by Mask R-CNN, we propose in this paper an effective model for scene text detection, which is based on Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) and instance segmentation. We propose a supervised pyramid context network (SPCNET) to precisely locate text regions while suppressing false positives. Benefited from the guidance of semantic information and sharing FPN, SPCNET obtains significantly enhanced performance while introducing marginal extra computation. Experiments on standard datasets demonstrate that our SPCNET clearly outperforms start-of-the-art methods. Specifically, it achieves an F-measure of 92.1% on ICDAR2013, 87.2% on ICDAR2015, 74.1% on ICDAR2017 MLT and 82.9% on Total-Text.

Real-world plant species identification based on deep convolutional neural networks and visual attentionQingguo Xiao, Guangyao Li, Li Xie et al.
This paper investigates the issue of real-world identification to fulfill better species protection. We focus on plant species identification as it is a classic and hot issue. In tradition plant species identification the samples are scanned specimen and the background is simple. However, real-world species recognition is more challenging. We first systematically investigate what is realistic species recognition and the difference from tradition plant species recognition. To deal with the challenging task, an interdisciplinary collaboration is presented based on the latest advances in computer science and technology. We propose a novel framework and an effective data augmentation method for deep learning in this paper. We first crop the image in terms of visual attention before general recognition. Besides, we apply it as a data augmentation method. We call the novel data augmentation approach attention cropping (AC). Deep convolutional neural networks are trained to predict species from a large amount of data. Extensive experiments on traditional dataset and specific dataset for real-world recognition are conducted to evaluate the performance of our approach. Experiments first demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art results on different types of datasets. Besides, we also evaluate the performance of data augmentation method AC. Results show that AC provides superior performance. Compared with the precision of methods without AC, the results with AC achieve substantial improvement.
