Prompt-aligned Gradient for Prompt Tuning

Thanks to the large pre-trained vision-language models (VLMs) like CLIP, we can craft a zero-shot classifier by "prompt", e.g., the confidence score of an image being "[CLASS]" can be obtained by using the VLM provided similarity measure between the image and the prompt sentence "a photo of a [CLASS]". Therefore, prompt shows a great potential for fast adaptation of VLMs to downstream tasks if we fine-tune the prompt-based similarity measure. However, we find a common failure that improper fine-tuning may not only undermine the prompt's inherent prediction for the task-related classes, but also for other classes in the VLM vocabulary. Existing methods still address this problem by using traditional anti-overfitting techniques such as early stopping and data augmentation, which lack a principled solution specific to prompt. We present Prompt-aligned Gradient, dubbed ProGrad, to prevent prompt tuning from forgetting the the general knowledge learned from VLMs. In particular, ProGrad only updates the prompt whose gradient is aligned (or non-conflicting) to the "general direction", which is represented as the gradient of the KL loss of the pre-defined prompt prediction. Extensive experiments demonstrate the stronger few-shot generalization ability of ProGrad over state-of-the-art prompt tuning methods. Avoiding spurious correlations via logit correction

Empirical studies suggest that machine learning models trained with empirical risk minimization (ERM) often rely on attributes that may be spuriously correlated with the class labels. Such models typically lead to poor performance during inference for data lacking such correlations. In this work, we explicitly consider a situation where potential spurious correlations are present in the majority of training data. In contrast with existing approaches, which use the ERM model outputs to detect the samples without spurious correlations and either heuristically upweight or upsample those samples, we propose the logit correction (LC) loss, a simple yet effective improvement on the softmax cross-entropy loss, to correct the sample logit. We demonstrate that minimizing the LC loss is equivalent to maximizing the group-balanced accuracy, so the proposed LC could mitigate the negative impacts of spurious correlations. Our extensive experimental results further reveal that the proposed LC loss outperforms state-of-the-art solutions on multiple popular benchmarks by a large margin, an average 5.5\% absolute improvement, without access to spurious attribute labels. PrivacyMind: Large Language Models Can Be Contextual Privacy Protection Learners

The proliferation of Large Language Models (LLMs) has driven considerable interest in fine-tuning them with domain-specific data to create specialized language models. Nevertheless, such domain-specific fine-tuning data often contains contextually sensitive personally identifiable information (PII). Direct fine-tuning of LLMs on this data without privacy protection poses a risk of data leakage of sensitive PII during inference time. To address this challenge, we introduce Contextual Privacy Protection Language Models (PrivacyMind), a novel paradigm for fine-tuning LLMs that effectively injects domain-specific knowledge while safeguarding inference-time data privacy. Our work offers a theoretical analysis for model design and benchmarks various techniques such as corpus curation, penalty-based unlikelihood in training loss, instruction-based tuning, etc. Extensive experiments across diverse datasets and scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness of our approaches. In particular, instruction tuning with both positive and negative examples stands out as a promising method, effectively protecting private data while enhancing the model's knowledge. When are supercapacitors practically feasible in electric vehicles?

While the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) can theoretically mitigate battery degradation in electric vehicles, its practical implementation remains highly limited. To delineate the specific scenarios and application boundaries where supercapacitors remain feasible, this study proposes a multi-dimensional techno-economic feasibility evaluation framework. First, a cross-vehicle sizing method based on dynamic programming is established to quantify physical mass-volume packaging constraints and identify feasible supercapacitor candidates across different vehicle types. Building upon the optimal sizing parameters derived from the battery aging Pareto front, an expert-guided deep reinforcement learning energy management strategy is integrated to yield near-optimal online performance, ensuring a fair life-cycle economic assessment. Finally, a comprehensive feasibility matrix is constructed to systematically evaluate mass, volume, battery lifespan, additional supercapacitor costs, total cost of ownership, future energy storage prices, and the influence of emerging solid-state batteries. Results reveal that city buses remain the most promising vehicle type for HESS due to minimal additional costs and sufficient packaging space. Current mass-volume penalties and limited economic benefits hinder HESS application in passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks, respectively. This situation may only improve if supercapacitor prices drop significantly in the future. Beyond vehicle types, the HESS feasibility is governed by load-frequency characteristics. Furthermore, looking toward the 2030+ solid-state battery era, we highlight that integrating increasingly affordable supercapacitors can provide substantial asset protection leverage.

MemGuard: Preventing Memory Contamination in Long-Term Memory-Augmented Large Language Models

Memory-augmented large language models extend reasoning beyond a fixed context window by maintaining long-term memory across interactions. However, existing memory systems often collapse stable user facts, episodic events, and behavioral rules into a shared space, allowing functionally distinct memories to be retrieved and used as interchangeable evidence. We identify this failure mode as heterogeneous memory contamination, where context-specific events become overgeneralized claims, or semantically relevant but functionally incompatible memories mislead generation. To this end, we introduce MemGuard, a type-aware memory framework that preserves functional memory boundaries during memory construction and retrieval. It assigns each memory an explicit functional role at write time, maintains relations across type-isolated memories, and selectively composes evidence only from necessary memory types, reducing contamination from irrelevant or functionally incompatible evidence. Across hallucination and long-horizon conversation benchmarks, MemGuard improves memory reliability by up to 28.27% while retrieving up to 5.8x fewer memory tokens than prior methods. These results suggest that reliable long-term reasoning depends on principled organization and selective use of heterogeneous memory.

Intern-S1-Pro: Scientific Multimodal Foundation Model at Trillion Scale

We introduce Intern-S1-Pro, the first one-trillion-parameter scientific multimodal foundation model. Scaling to this unprecedented size, the model delivers a comprehensive enhancement across both general and scientific domains. Beyond stronger reasoning and image-text understanding capabilities, its intelligence is augmented with advanced agent capabilities. Simultaneously, its scientific expertise has been vastly expanded to master over 100 specialized tasks across critical science fields, including chemistry, materials, life sciences, and earth sciences. Achieving this massive scale is made possible by the robust infrastructure support of XTuner and LMDeploy, which facilitates highly efficient Reinforcement Learning (RL) training at the 1-trillion parameter level while ensuring strict precision consistency between training and inference. By seamlessly integrating these advancements, Intern-S1-Pro further fortifies the fusion of general and specialized intelligence, working as a Specializable Generalist, demonstrating its position in the top tier of open-source models for general capabilities, while outperforming proprietary models in the depth of specialized scientific tasks.

PixArt-$α$: Fast Training of Diffusion Transformer for Photorealistic Text-to-Image Synthesis

The most advanced text-to-image (T2I) models require significant training costs (e.g., millions of GPU hours), seriously hindering the fundamental innovation for the AIGC community while increasing CO2 emissions. This paper introduces PIXART-$α$, a Transformer-based T2I diffusion model whose image generation quality is competitive with state-of-the-art image generators (e.g., Imagen, SDXL, and even Midjourney), reaching near-commercial application standards. Additionally, it supports high-resolution image synthesis up to 1024px resolution with low training cost, as shown in Figure 1 and 2. To achieve this goal, three core designs are proposed: (1) Training strategy decomposition: We devise three distinct training steps that separately optimize pixel dependency, text-image alignment, and image aesthetic quality; (2) Efficient T2I Transformer: We incorporate cross-attention modules into Diffusion Transformer (DiT) to inject text conditions and streamline the computation-intensive class-condition branch; (3) High-informative data: We emphasize the significance of concept density in text-image pairs and leverage a large Vision-Language model to auto-label dense pseudo-captions to assist text-image alignment learning. As a result, PIXART-$α$'s training speed markedly surpasses existing large-scale T2I models, e.g., PIXART-$α$ only takes 10.8% of Stable Diffusion v1.5's training time (675 vs. 6,250 A100 GPU days), saving nearly \$300,000 (\$26,000 vs. \$320,000) and reducing 90% CO2 emissions. Moreover, compared with a larger SOTA model, RAPHAEL, our training cost is merely 1%. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PIXART-$α$ excels in image quality, artistry, and semantic control. We hope PIXART-$α$ will provide new insights to the AIGC community and startups to accelerate building their own high-quality yet low-cost generative models from scratch.

MorphoQuant: Modality-Aware Quantization for Omni-modal Large Language Models

Conventional Post-Training Quantization (PTQ) methods struggle with 4-bit Omni-modal Large Language Models (OLLMs) due to the extreme distribution heterogeneity and disparate outlier patterns across modalities. To address this, we propose MorphoQuant, a modality-aware PTQ framework engineered to preserve cross-modal morphology and mitigate outlier loss. Specifically, we introduce Distribution-Aware Bias Compensation (DABC), which selectively absorbs long-tailed outliers into channel-wise biases. This mechanism safeguards outlier magnitudes while maintaining high-precision discretization for dense inliers, thereby preserving accurate discretization across diverse modal distribution. Complementing this, we propose Morphology-Directed Quantization Function Optimization (MDQFO) to co-optimize the quantization grid with the bias mask, ensuring fine-grained alignment across modalities. Extensive evaluations on Qwen2.5-Omni across benchmarks like MMMU and Video-MME demonstrate our approach's superiority. Notably, our W4A4 model achieves 76.63% on ScienceQA, significantly outperforming SOTA W4A4 methods and surprisingly surpassing the W4A16 baseline, which fully demonstrates the exceptional accuracy-efficiency trade-off of our framework.

Read and Reap the Rewards: Learning to Play Atari with the Help of Instruction Manuals

High sample complexity has long been a challenge for RL. On the other hand, humans learn to perform tasks not only from interaction or demonstrations, but also by reading unstructured text documents, e.g., instruction manuals. Instruction manuals and wiki pages are among the most abundant data that could inform agents of valuable features and policies or task-specific environmental dynamics and reward structures. Therefore, we hypothesize that the ability to utilize human-written instruction manuals to assist learning policies for specific tasks should lead to a more efficient and better-performing agent. We propose the Read and Reward framework. Read and Reward speeds up RL algorithms on Atari games by reading manuals released by the Atari game developers. Our framework consists of a QA Extraction module that extracts and summarizes relevant information from the manual and a Reasoning module that evaluates object-agent interactions based on information from the manual. An auxiliary reward is then provided to a standard A2C RL agent, when interaction is detected. Experimentally, various RL algorithms obtain significant improvement in performance and training speed when assisted by our design.

Real-time Online Multi-Object Tracking in Compressed Domain

Recent online Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) methods have achieved desirable tracking performance. However, the tracking speed of most existing methods is rather slow. Inspired from the fact that the adjacent frames are highly relevant and redundant, we divide the frames into key and non-key frames respectively and track objects in the compressed domain. For the key frames, the RGB images are restored for detection and data association. To make data association more reliable, an appearance Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) which can be jointly trained with the detector is proposed. For the non-key frames, the objects are directly propagated by a tracking CNN based on the motion information provided in the compressed domain. Compared with the state-of-the-art online MOT methods,our tracker is about 6x faster while maintaining a comparable tracking performance.

Towards Understanding Mixture of Experts in Deep Learning

The Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) layer, a sparsely-activated model controlled by a router, has achieved great success in deep learning. However, the understanding of such architecture remains elusive. In this paper, we formally study how the MoE layer improves the performance of neural network learning and why the mixture model will not collapse into a single model. Our empirical results suggest that the cluster structure of the underlying problem and the non-linearity of the expert are pivotal to the success of MoE. To further understand this, we consider a challenging classification problem with intrinsic cluster structures, which is hard to learn using a single expert. Yet with the MoE layer, by choosing the experts as two-layer nonlinear convolutional neural networks (CNNs), we show that the problem can be learned successfully. Furthermore, our theory shows that the router can learn the cluster-center features, which helps divide the input complex problem into simpler linear classification sub-problems that individual experts can conquer. To our knowledge, this is the first result towards formally understanding the mechanism of the MoE layer for deep learning.

Exploring the Application of Large-scale Pre-trained Models on Adverse Weather Removal

Image restoration under adverse weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow and haze) is a fundamental computer vision problem and has important indications for various downstream applications. Different from early methods that are specially designed for specific type of weather, most recent works tend to remove various adverse weather effects simultaneously through either spatial feature representation learning or semantic information embedding. Inspired by the various successful applications of large-scale pre-trained models (e.g, CLIP), in this paper, we explore the potential benefits of them for this task through both spatial feature representation learning and semantic information embedding aspects: 1) for spatial feature representation learning, we design a Spatially-Adaptive Residual (\textbf{SAR}) Encoder to extract degraded areas adaptively. To facilitate its training, we propose a Soft Residual Distillation (\textbf{CLIP-SRD}) strategy to transfer the spatial knowledge from CLIP between clean and adverse weather images; 2) for semantic information embedding, we propose a CLIP Weather Prior (\textbf{CWP}) embedding module to make the network handle different weather conditions adaptively. This module integrates the sample specific weather prior extracted by CLIP image encoder together with the distribution specific information learned by a set of parameters, and embeds them through a cross attention mechanism. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed method can achieve state-of-the-art performance under different and challenging adverse weather conditions. Code will be made available.

Baton: Explicit Semantic Blueprints for Joint Video-Audio Generation

Current open-source diffusion models struggle to generate stable and synchronized audio-visual content, particularly in scenarios demanding complex semantic reasoning. The root cause is that existing methods rely on coarse text embeddings from off-the-shelf encoders to guide audio-video denoising, which discards fine-grained semantics and, critically, lacks a shared long-horizon plan, leading to uncoordinated denoising trajectories and fragile cross-modal alignment. We propose Baton, the first framework that introduces explicit semantic planning into joint video-audio generation. Our key insight is that complementing coarse text guidance with semantically rich, modality-aware planned tokens, jointly reasoned and mutually aligned before denoising, can simultaneously restore fine-grained semantic detail and establish a shared blueprint that coordinates both audio and video denoising trajectories. Concretely, Baton first introduces the VA-Planner, a multimodal language model equipped with dual semantic alignment towers, where learnable queries cross-attend to both video and audio features to produce a pair of semantically aligned video and audio planned tokens as keyframe-level blueprints. These planned tokens are injected into the diffusion backbone via cross-attention layers, providing temporally grounded guidance complementary to coarse text embeddings. Since planned tokens do not share one-to-one spatial-temporal correspondence with diffusion latents, we further propose Relative Semantic RoPE, a relative positional encoding that maps planned tokens and latents into a shared spatial-temporal coordinate frame, enabling each latent to accurately attend to its positionally corresponding semantic cues. Experiments on benchmarks show the effectiveness of Baton both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Accelerating Min-Max Optimization via Power-Law Stepsizes

We revisit the convergence guarantees of the Extragradient (EG) method for unconstrained biaffine min-max optimization. It is known that EG with a fixed stepsize achieves a $Θ(T^{-1/2})$ last-iterate convergence rate, which is slower than the optimal $\mathcal{O}(T^{-1})$ rate attainable by incorporating additional mechanisms such as anchoring. Motivated by recent advances showing that dynamic stepsizes alone can significantly accelerate gradient descent, we ask whether dynamic stepsizes can similarly accelerate the last-iterate convergence of EG. We present the first positive result in this direction. Specifically, we provide a deterministic dynamic stepsize schedule that accelerates the convergence rate of EG to $\mathcal{O}(T^{-2/3+\varepsilon})$ for any $\varepsilon > 0$. We also show that this rate is tight when the extrapolation and update steps of EG use the same stepsize. We then show that allowing different stepsizes for the extrapolation and update steps further improves the convergence rate to the near-optimal $\mathcal{O}(T^{-1+\varepsilon})$. Our analysis reduces stepsize scheduling to an optimization problem, whose solution leads to a stepsize schedule that follows (a discretization of) a power-law distribution. Our proposed stepsize schedules and analysis extend to other methods, such as Optimistic Gradient (OG), and suggest broader applicability to general min-max optimization problems.

Emotional Intelligence of Large Language Models

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable abilities across numerous disciplines, primarily assessed through tasks in language generation, knowledge utilization, and complex reasoning. However, their alignment with human emotions and values, which is critical for real-world applications, has not been systematically evaluated. Here, we assessed LLMs' Emotional Intelligence (EI), encompassing emotion recognition, interpretation, and understanding, which is necessary for effective communication and social interactions. Specifically, we first developed a novel psychometric assessment focusing on Emotion Understanding (EU), a core component of EI, suitable for both humans and LLMs. This test requires evaluating complex emotions (e.g., surprised, joyful, puzzled, proud) in realistic scenarios (e.g., despite feeling underperformed, John surprisingly achieved a top score). With a reference frame constructed from over 500 adults, we tested a variety of mainstream LLMs. Most achieved above-average EQ scores, with GPT-4 exceeding 89% of human participants with an EQ of 117. Interestingly, a multivariate pattern analysis revealed that some LLMs apparently did not reply on the human-like mechanism to achieve human-level performance, as their representational patterns were qualitatively distinct from humans. In addition, we discussed the impact of factors such as model size, training method, and architecture on LLMs' EQ. In summary, our study presents one of the first psychometric evaluations of the human-like characteristics of LLMs, which may shed light on the future development of LLMs aiming for both high intellectual and emotional intelligence. Graph Generative Model for Benchmarking Graph Neural Networks

As the field of Graph Neural Networks (GNN) continues to grow, it experiences a corresponding increase in the need for large, real-world datasets to train and test new GNN models on challenging, realistic problems. Unfortunately, such graph datasets are often generated from online, highly privacy-restricted ecosystems, which makes research and development on these datasets hard, if not impossible. This greatly reduces the amount of benchmark graphs available to researchers, causing the field to rely only on a handful of publicly-available datasets. To address this problem, we introduce a novel graph generative model, Computation Graph Transformer (CGT) that learns and reproduces the distribution of real-world graphs in a privacy-controlled way. More specifically, CGT (1) generates effective benchmark graphs on which GNNs show similar task performance as on the source graphs, (2) scales to process large-scale graphs, (3) incorporates off-the-shelf privacy modules to guarantee end-user privacy of the generated graph. Extensive experiments across a vast body of graph generative models show that only our model can successfully generate privacy-controlled, synthetic substitutes of large-scale real-world graphs that can be effectively used to benchmark GNN models.

Triple Point Masking

Existing 3D mask learning methods encounter performance bottlenecks under limited data, and our objective is to overcome this limitation. In this paper, we introduce a triple point masking scheme, named TPM, which serves as a scalable framework for pre-training of masked autoencoders to achieve multi-mask learning for 3D point clouds. Specifically, we augment the baselines with two additional mask choices (i.e., medium mask and low mask) as our core insight is that the recovery process of an object can manifest in diverse ways. Previous high-masking schemes focus on capturing the global representation but lack the fine-grained recovery capability, so that the generated pre-trained weights tend to play a limited role in the fine-tuning process. With the support of the proposed TPM, available methods can exhibit more flexible and accurate completion capabilities, enabling the potential autoencoder in the pre-training stage to consider multiple representations of a single 3D object. In addition, an SVM-guided weight selection module is proposed to fill the encoder parameters for downstream networks with the optimal weight during the fine-tuning stage, maximizing linear accuracy and facilitating the acquisition of intricate representations for new objects. Extensive experiments show that the four baselines equipped with the proposed TPM achieve comprehensive performance improvements on various downstream tasks. OmniWeaving: Towards Unified Video Generation with Free-form Composition and Reasoning

While proprietary systems such as Seedance-2.0 have achieved remarkable success in omni-capable video generation, open-source alternatives significantly lag behind. Most academic models remain heavily fragmented, and the few existing efforts toward unified video generation still struggle to seamlessly integrate diverse tasks within a single framework. To bridge this gap, we propose OmniWeaving, an omni-level video generation model featuring powerful multimodal composition and reasoning-informed capabilities. By leveraging a massive-scale pretraining dataset that encompasses diverse compositional and reasoning-augmented scenarios, OmniWeaving learns to temporally bind interleaved text, multi-image, and video inputs while acting as an intelligent agent to infer complex user intentions for sophisticated video creation. Furthermore, we introduce IntelligentVBench, the first comprehensive benchmark designed to rigorously assess next-level intelligent unified video generation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OmniWeaving achieves SoTA performance among open-source unified models. The codes and model will be made publicly available soon. SmartPlay: A Benchmark for LLMs as Intelligent Agents

Recent large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated great potential toward intelligent agents and next-gen automation, but there currently lacks a systematic benchmark for evaluating LLMs' abilities as agents. We introduce SmartPlay: both a challenging benchmark and a methodology for evaluating LLMs as agents. SmartPlay consists of 6 different games, including Rock-Paper-Scissors, Tower of Hanoi, Minecraft. Each game features a unique setting, providing up to 20 evaluation settings and infinite environment variations. Each game in SmartPlay uniquely challenges a subset of 9 important capabilities of an intelligent LLM agent, including reasoning with object dependencies, planning ahead, spatial reasoning, learning from history, and understanding randomness. The distinction between the set of capabilities each game test allows us to analyze each capability separately. SmartPlay serves not only as a rigorous testing ground for evaluating the overall performance of LLM agents but also as a road-map for identifying gaps in current methodologies. Optimizing Video Prediction via Video Frame Interpolation

Video prediction is an extrapolation task that predicts future frames given past frames, and video frame interpolation is an interpolation task that estimates intermediate frames between two frames. We have witnessed the tremendous advancement of video frame interpolation, but the general video prediction in the wild is still an open question. Inspired by the photo-realistic results of video frame interpolation, we present a new optimization framework for video prediction via video frame interpolation, in which we solve an extrapolation problem based on an interpolation model. Our video prediction framework is based on optimization with a pretrained differentiable video frame interpolation module without the need for a training dataset, and thus there is no domain gap issue between training and test data. Also, our approach does not need any additional information such as semantic or instance maps, which makes our framework applicable to any video. Extensive experiments on the Cityscapes, KITTI, DAVIS, Middlebury, and Vimeo90K datasets show that our video prediction results are robust in general scenarios, and our approach outperforms other video prediction methods that require a large amount of training data or extra semantic information.

Multi-view Point Cloud Registration based on Evolutionary Multitasking with Bi-Channel Knowledge Sharing Mechanism

Multi-view point cloud registration is fundamental in 3D reconstruction. Since there are close connections between point clouds captured from different viewpoints, registration performance can be enhanced if these connections be harnessed properly. Therefore, this paper models the registration problem as multi-task optimization, and proposes a novel bi-channel knowledge sharing mechanism for effective and efficient problem solving. The modeling of multi-view point cloud registration as multi-task optimization are twofold. By simultaneously considering the local accuracy of two point clouds as well as the global consistency posed by all the point clouds involved, a fitness function with an adaptive threshold is derived. Also a framework of the co-evolutionary search process is defined for the concurrent optimization of multiple fitness functions belonging to related tasks. To enhance solution quality and convergence speed, the proposed bi-channel knowledge sharing mechanism plays its role. The intra-task knowledge sharing introduces aiding tasks that are much simpler to solve, and useful information is shared across aiding tasks and the original tasks, accelerating the search process. The inter-task knowledge sharing explores commonalities buried among the original tasks, aiming to prevent tasks from getting stuck to local optima. Comprehensive experiments conducted on model object as well as scene point clouds show the efficacy of the proposed method.

Lesion Localization in OCT by Semi-Supervised Object Detection

Over 300 million people worldwide are affected by various retinal diseases. By noninvasive Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans, a number of abnormal structural changes in the retina, namely retinal lesions, can be identified. Automated lesion localization in OCT is thus important for detecting retinal diseases at their early stage. To conquer the lack of manual annotation for deep supervised learning, this paper presents a first study on utilizing semi-supervised object detection (SSOD) for lesion localization in OCT images. To that end, we develop a taxonomy to provide a unified and structured viewpoint of the current SSOD methods, and consequently identify key modules in these methods. To evaluate the influence of these modules in the new task, we build OCT-SS, a new dataset consisting of over 1k expert-labeled OCT B-scan images and over 13k unlabeled B-scans. Extensive experiments on OCT-SS identify Unbiased Teacher (UnT) as the best current SSOD method for lesion localization. Moreover, we improve over this strong baseline, with mAP increased from 49.34 to 50.86.

Borda Regret Minimization for Generalized Linear Dueling Bandits

Dueling bandits are widely used to model preferential feedback prevalent in many applications such as recommendation systems and ranking. In this paper, we study the Borda regret minimization problem for dueling bandits, which aims to identify the item with the highest Borda score while minimizing the cumulative regret. We propose a rich class of generalized linear dueling bandit models, which cover many existing models. We first prove a regret lower bound of order $Ω(d^{2/3} T^{2/3})$ for the Borda regret minimization problem, where $d$ is the dimension of contextual vectors and $T$ is the time horizon. To attain this lower bound, we propose an explore-then-commit type algorithm for the stochastic setting, which has a nearly matching regret upper bound $\tilde{O}(d^{2/3} T^{2/3})$. We also propose an EXP3-type algorithm for the adversarial linear setting, where the underlying model parameter can change at each round. Our algorithm achieves an $\tilde{O}(d^{2/3} T^{2/3})$ regret, which is also optimal. Empirical evaluations on both synthetic data and a simulated real-world environment are conducted to corroborate our theoretical analysis.

Enhancing LLM's Cognition via Structurization

When reading long-form text, human cognition is complex and structurized. While large language models (LLMs) process input contexts through a causal and sequential perspective, this approach can potentially limit their ability to handle intricate and complex inputs effectively. To enhance LLM's cognition capability, this paper presents a novel concept of context structurization. Specifically, we transform the plain, unordered contextual sentences into well-ordered and hierarchically structurized elements. By doing so, LLMs can better grasp intricate and extended contexts through precise attention and information-seeking along the organized structures. Extensive evaluations are conducted across various model architectures and sizes (including a series of auto-regressive LLMs as well as BERT-like masking models) on a diverse set of NLP tasks (e.g., context-based question-answering, exhaustive hallucination evaluation, and passage-level dense retrieval). Empirical results show consistent and significant performance gains afforded by a single-round structurization. In particular, we boost the open-sourced LLaMA2-70B model to achieve comparable performance against GPT-3.5-Turbo as the hallucination evaluator. Besides, we show the feasibility of distilling advanced LLMs' language processing abilities to a smaller yet effective StruXGPT-7B to execute structurization, addressing the practicality of our approach. Sybil-Proof Diffusion Auction in Social Networks

A diffusion auction is a market to sell commodities over a social network, where the challenge is to incentivize existing buyers to invite their neighbors in the network to join the market. Existing mechanisms have been designed to solve the challenge in various settings, aiming at desirable properties such as non-deficiency, incentive compatibility and social welfare maximization. Since the mechanisms are employed in dynamic networks with ever-changing structures, buyers could easily generate fake nodes in the network to manipulate the mechanisms for their own benefits, which is commonly known as the Sybil attack. We observe that strategic agents may gain an unfair advantage in existing mechanisms through such attacks. To resist this potential attack, we propose two diffusion auction mechanisms, the Sybil tax mechanism (STM) and the Sybil cluster mechanism (SCM), to achieve both Sybil-proofness and incentive compatibility in the single-item setting. Our proposal provides the first mechanisms to protect the interests of buyers against Sybil attacks with a mild sacrifice of social welfare and revenue.

AniFaceGAN: Animatable 3D-Aware Face Image Generation for Video Avatars

Although 2D generative models have made great progress in face image generation and animation, they often suffer from undesirable artifacts such as 3D inconsistency when rendering images from different camera viewpoints. This prevents them from synthesizing video animations indistinguishable from real ones. Recently, 3D-aware GANs extend 2D GANs for explicit disentanglement of camera pose by leveraging 3D scene representations. These methods can well preserve the 3D consistency of the generated images across different views, yet they cannot achieve fine-grained control over other attributes, among which facial expression control is arguably the most useful and desirable for face animation. In this paper, we propose an animatable 3D-aware GAN for multiview consistent face animation generation. The key idea is to decompose the 3D representation of the 3D-aware GAN into a template field and a deformation field, where the former represents different identities with a canonical expression, and the latter characterizes expression variations of each identity. To achieve meaningful control over facial expressions via deformation, we propose a 3D-level imitative learning scheme between the generator and a parametric 3D face model during adversarial training of the 3D-aware GAN. This helps our method achieve high-quality animatable face image generation with strong visual 3D consistency, even though trained with only unstructured 2D images. FasterPy: An LLM-based Code Execution Efficiency Optimization Framework

Code often suffers from performance bugs. These bugs necessitate the research and practice of code optimization. Traditional rule-based methods rely on manually designing and maintaining rules for specific performance bugs (e.g., redundant loops, repeated computations), making them labor-intensive and limited in applicability. In recent years, machine learning and deep learning-based methods have emerged as promising alternatives by learning optimization heuristics from annotated code corpora and performance measurements. However, these approaches usually depend on specific program representations and meticulously crafted training datasets, making them costly to develop and difficult to scale. With the booming of Large Language Models (LLMs), their remarkable capabilities in code generation have opened new avenues for automated code optimization. In this work, we proposed FasterPy, a low-cost and efficient framework that adapts LLMs to optimize the execution efficiency of Python code. FasterPy combines Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), supported by a knowledge base constructed from existing performance-improving code pairs and corresponding performance measurements, with Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) to enhance code optimization performance. Our experimental results on the Performance Improving Code Edits (PIE) benchmark demonstrate that our method outperforms existing models on multiple metrics. AniPortraitGAN: Animatable 3D Portrait Generation from 2D Image Collections

Previous animatable 3D-aware GANs for human generation have primarily focused on either the human head or full body. However, head-only videos are relatively uncommon in real life, and full body generation typically does not deal with facial expression control and still has challenges in generating high-quality results. Towards applicable video avatars, we present an animatable 3D-aware GAN that generates portrait images with controllable facial expression, head pose, and shoulder movements. It is a generative model trained on unstructured 2D image collections without using 3D or video data. For the new task, we base our method on the generative radiance manifold representation and equip it with learnable facial and head-shoulder deformations. A dual-camera rendering and adversarial learning scheme is proposed to improve the quality of the generated faces, which is critical for portrait images. A pose deformation processing network is developed to generate plausible deformations for challenging regions such as long hair. Experiments show that our method, trained on unstructured 2D images, can generate diverse and high-quality 3D portraits with desired control over different properties.

Semantically Grounded QFormer for Efficient Vision Language Understanding

General purpose Vision Language Models (VLMs) have received tremendous interest in recent years, owing to their ability to learn rich vision-language correlations as well as their broad zero-shot competencies. One immensely popular line of work utilizes frozen unimodal models, by bridging vision representations to language using a trainable module called the QFormer. However, this method relies heavily on large-scale multimodal pretraining with huge computational overheads. To that end, we propose a more efficient framework for QFormer-based vision-language alignment. Our key idea relies on the observation that QFormer latents correspond more strongly to the frozen LLM's intermediate latent space. Consequently, instead of using QFormer latents as inputs to the LLM, we alter the framework by using the latents to directly condition the LLM latent space for image-to-text generation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach against existing baselines in improving the efficiency of vision-language pretraining.

Learning to Focus and Precise Cropping: A Reinforcement Learning Framework with Information Gaps and Grounding Loss for MLLMs

To enhance the perception and reasoning capabilities of multimodal large language models in complex visual scenes, recent research has introduced agent-based workflows. In these works, MLLMs autonomously utilize image cropping tool to analyze regions of interest for question answering. While existing training strategies, such as those employing supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning, have made significant progress, our empirical analysis reveals a key limitation. We demonstrate the model's strong reliance on global input and its weak dependence on the details within the cropped region. To address this issue, we propose a novel two-stage reinforcement learning framework that does not require trajectory supervision. In the first stage, we introduce the ``Information Gap" mechanism by adjusting the granularity of the global image. This mechanism trains the model to answer questions by focusing on cropped key regions, driven by the information gain these regions provide. The second stage further enhances cropping precision by incorporating a grounding loss, using a small number of bounding box annotations. Experiments show that our method significantly enhances the model's attention to cropped regions, enabling it to achieve state-of-the-art performance on high-resolution visual question-answering benchmarks. Open-Ended Instructable Embodied Agents with Memory-Augmented Large Language Models

Pre-trained and frozen large language models (LLMs) can effectively map simple scene rearrangement instructions to programs over a robot's visuomotor functions through appropriate few-shot example prompting. To parse open-domain natural language and adapt to a user's idiosyncratic procedures, not known during prompt engineering time, fixed prompts fall short. In this paper, we introduce HELPER, an embodied agent equipped with an external memory of language-program pairs that parses free-form human-robot dialogue into action programs through retrieval-augmented LLM prompting: relevant memories are retrieved based on the current dialogue, instruction, correction, or VLM description, and used as in-context prompt examples for LLM querying. The memory is expanded during deployment to include pairs of user's language and action plans, to assist future inferences and personalize them to the user's language and routines. HELPER sets a new state-of-the-art in the TEACh benchmark in both Execution from Dialog History (EDH) and Trajectory from Dialogue (TfD), with a 1.7x improvement over the previous state-of-the-art for TfD. Preserving Commonsense Knowledge from Pre-trained Language Models via Causal Inference

Fine-tuning has been proven to be a simple and effective technique to transfer the learned knowledge of Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs) to downstream tasks. However, vanilla fine-tuning easily overfits the target data and degrades the generalization ability. Most existing studies attribute it to catastrophic forgetting, and they retain the pre-trained knowledge indiscriminately without identifying what knowledge is transferable. Motivated by this, we frame fine-tuning into a causal graph and discover that the crux of catastrophic forgetting lies in the missing causal effects from the pretrained data. Based on the causal view, we propose a unified objective for fine-tuning to retrieve the causality back. Intriguingly, the unified objective can be seen as the sum of the vanilla fine-tuning objective, which learns new knowledge from target data, and the causal objective, which preserves old knowledge from PLMs. Therefore, our method is flexible and can mitigate negative transfer while preserving knowledge. Since endowing models with commonsense is a long-standing challenge, we implement our method on commonsense QA with a proposed heuristic estimation to verify its effectiveness. In the experiments, our method outperforms state-of-the-art fine-tuning methods on all six commonsense QA datasets and can be implemented as a plug-in module to inflate the performance of existing QA models.

Video Waterdrop Removal via Spatio-Temporal Fusion in Driving Scenes

The waterdrops on windshields during driving can cause severe visual obstructions, which may lead to car accidents. Meanwhile, the waterdrops can also degrade the performance of a computer vision system in autonomous driving. To address these issues, we propose an attention-based framework that fuses the spatio-temporal representations from multiple frames to restore visual information occluded by waterdrops. Due to the lack of training data for video waterdrop removal, we propose a large-scale synthetic dataset with simulated waterdrops in complex driving scenes on rainy days. To improve the generality of our proposed method, we adopt a cross-modality training strategy that combines synthetic videos and real-world images. Extensive experiments show that our proposed method can generalize well and achieve the best waterdrop removal performance in complex real-world driving scenes.

Score-based Transport Modeling for Mean-Field Fokker-Planck Equations

We use the score-based transport modeling method to solve the mean-field Fokker-Planck equations, which we call MSBTM. We establish an upper bound on the time derivative of the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence to MSBTM numerical estimation from the exact solution, thus validates the MSBTM approach. Besides, we provide an error analysis for the algorithm. In numerical experiments, we study two types of mean-field Fokker-Planck equation and their corresponding dynamics of particles in interacting systems. The MSBTM algorithm is numerically validated through qualitative and quantitative comparison between the MSBTM solutions, the results of integrating the associated stochastic differential equation and the analytical solutions if available.

One-Nearest Neighborhood Guides Inlier Estimation for Unsupervised Point Cloud Registration

The precision of unsupervised point cloud registration methods is typically limited by the lack of reliable inlier estimation and self-supervised signal, especially in partially overlapping scenarios. In this paper, we propose an effective inlier estimation method for unsupervised point cloud registration by capturing geometric structure consistency between the source point cloud and its corresponding reference point cloud copy. Specifically, to obtain a high quality reference point cloud copy, an One-Nearest Neighborhood (1-NN) point cloud is generated by input point cloud. This facilitates matching map construction and allows for integrating dual neighborhood matching scores of 1-NN point cloud and input point cloud to improve matching confidence. Benefiting from the high quality reference copy, we argue that the neighborhood graph formed by inlier and its neighborhood should have consistency between source point cloud and its corresponding reference copy. Based on this observation, we construct transformation-invariant geometric structure representations and capture geometric structure consistency to score the inlier confidence for estimated correspondences between source point cloud and its reference copy. This strategy can simultaneously provide the reliable self-supervised signal for model optimization. Finally, we further calculate transformation estimation by the weighted SVD algorithm with the estimated correspondences and corresponding inlier confidence. We train the proposed model in an unsupervised manner, and extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

SAFE-Pruner: Semantic Attention-Guided Future-Aware Token Pruning for Efficient Vision-Language-Action Manipulation

Real-time inference of vision-language-action (VLA) models is essential for robotic control. While visual token pruning has shown strong potential for accelerating inference, most existing methods mainly base pruning decisions on shallow-layer cues and risk discarding visual information required by deep layers. To address this issue, we propose SAFE-Pruner, a plug-and-play pruning framework that incorporates attention cues of future layers into pruning decisions. Specifically, we identify semantic attention consistency, the tendency that VLA models concentrate their attention probability mass on the same semantic entity across execution steps. Based on this observation, we design a forward-looking strategy to forecast the token saliency in deep layers, which prevents the premature removal of critical tokens and leads to more stable acceleration. We further introduce an adaptive subtask division strategy to detect abrupt attention shifts, thereby improving forecasting accuracy and pruning reliability. Extensive experiments in simulation and real-world settings demonstrate that our method achieves up to 1.89x speedup with a minimal degradation in success rate of less than 1.7%, while outperforming state-of-the-art methods by up to 1.9%.

Convergence Analysis and Design of Multi-block ADMM via Switched Control Theory

We consider three challenges in multi-block Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM): building convergence conditions for ADMM with any block (variable) sequence, finding available block sequences to be fit for ADMM, and designing useful parameter controllers for ADMM with unfixed parameters. To address these challenges, we develop a switched control framework for studying multi-block ADMM. First, since ADMM recursively and alternately updates the block-variables, it is converted into a discrete-time switched dynamical system. Second, we study exponential stability and stabilizability of the switched system for linear convergence analysis and design of ADMM by employing switched Lyapunov functions. Moreover, linear matrix inequalities conditions are proposed to ensure convergence of ADMM under arbitrary sequence, to find convergent sequences, and to design the fixed parameters. These conditions are checked and solved by employing semidefinite programming. Numerical experiments further verify the effectiveness of our proposed theories.

Distribution-Aligned Sequence Distillation for Superior Long-CoT Reasoning

In this report, we introduce DASD-4B-Thinking, a lightweight yet highly capable, fully open-source reasoning model. It achieves SOTA performance among open-source models of comparable scale across challenging benchmarks in mathematics, scientific reasoning, and code generation -- even outperforming several larger models. We begin by critically reexamining a widely adopted distillation paradigm in the community: SFT on teacher-generated responses, also known as sequence-level distillation. Although a series of recent works following this scheme have demonstrated remarkable efficiency and strong empirical performance, they are primarily grounded in the SFT perspective. Consequently, these approaches focus predominantly on designing heuristic rules for SFT data filtering, while largely overlooking the core principle of distillation itself -- enabling the student model to learn the teacher's full output distribution so as to inherit its generalization capability. Specifically, we identify three critical limitations in current practice: i) Inadequate representation of the teacher's sequence-level distribution; ii) Misalignment between the teacher's output distribution and the student's learning capacity; and iii) Exposure bias arising from teacher-forced training versus autoregressive inference. In summary, these shortcomings reflect a systemic absence of explicit teacher-student interaction throughout the distillation process, leaving the essence of distillation underexploited. To address these issues, we propose several methodological innovations that collectively form an enhanced sequence-level distillation training pipeline. Remarkably, DASD-4B-Thinking obtains competitive results using only 448K training samples -- an order of magnitude fewer than those employed by most existing open-source efforts. Sketch-in-Latents: Eliciting Unified Reasoning in MLLMs

While Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) excel at visual understanding tasks through text reasoning, they often fall short in scenarios requiring visual imagination. Unlike current works that take predefined external toolkits or generate images during thinking, however, humans can form flexible visual-text imagination and interactions during thinking without predefined toolkits, where one important reason is that humans construct the visual-text thinking process in a unified space inside the brain. Inspired by this capability, given that current MLLMs already encode visual and text information in the same feature space, we hold that visual tokens can be seamlessly inserted into the reasoning process carried by text tokens, where ideally, all visual imagination processes can be encoded by the latent features. To achieve this goal, we propose Sketch-in-Latents (SkiLa), a novel paradigm for unified multi-modal reasoning that expands the auto-regressive capabilities of MLLMs to natively generate continuous visual embeddings, termed latent sketch tokens, as visual thoughts. During multi-step reasoning, the model dynamically alternates between textual thinking mode for generating textual think tokens and visual sketching mode for generating latent sketch tokens. A latent visual semantics reconstruction mechanism is proposed to ensure these latent sketch tokens are semantically grounded. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SkiLa achieves superior performance on vision-centric tasks while exhibiting strong generalization to diverse general multi-modal benchmarks. T2V-CompBench: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Compositional Text-to-video Generation

Text-to-video (T2V) generative models have advanced significantly, yet their ability to compose different objects, attributes, actions, and motions into a video remains unexplored. Previous text-to-video benchmarks also neglect this important ability for evaluation. In this work, we conduct the first systematic study on compositional text-to-video generation. We propose T2V-CompBench, the first benchmark tailored for compositional text-to-video generation. T2V-CompBench encompasses diverse aspects of compositionality, including consistent attribute binding, dynamic attribute binding, spatial relationships, motion binding, action binding, object interactions, and generative numeracy. We further carefully design evaluation metrics of multimodal large language model (MLLM)-based, detection-based, and tracking-based metrics, which can better reflect the compositional text-to-video generation quality of seven proposed categories with 1400 text prompts. The effectiveness of the proposed metrics is verified by correlation with human evaluations. We also benchmark various text-to-video generative models and conduct in-depth analysis across different models and various compositional categories. We find that compositional text-to-video generation is highly challenging for current models, and we hope our attempt could shed light on future research in this direction.

Turning Mathematics Problems into Games: Reinforcement Learning and Gröbner bases together solve Integer Feasibility Problems

Can agents be trained to answer difficult mathematical questions by playing a game? We consider the integer feasibility problem, a challenge of deciding whether a system of linear equations and inequalities has a solution with integer values. This is a famous NP-complete problem with applications in many areas of Mathematics and Computer Science. Our paper describes a novel algebraic reinforcement learning framework that allows an agent to play a game equivalent to the integer feasibility problem. We explain how to transform the integer feasibility problem into a game over a set of arrays with fixed margin sums. The game starts with an initial state (an array), and by applying a legal move that leaves the margins unchanged, we aim to eventually reach a winning state with zeros in specific positions. To win the game the player must find a path between the initial state and a final terminal winning state if one exists. Finding such a winning state is equivalent to solving the integer feasibility problem. The key algebraic ingredient is a Gröbner basis of the toric ideal for the underlying axial transportation polyhedron. The Gröbner basis can be seen as a set of connecting moves (actions) of the game. We then propose a novel RL approach that trains an agent to predict moves in continuous space to cope with the large size of action space. The continuous move is then projected onto the set of legal moves so that the path always leads to valid states. As a proof of concept we demonstrate in experiments that our agent can play well the simplest version of our game for 2-way tables. Our work highlights the potential to train agents to solve non-trivial mathematical queries through contemporary machine learning methods used to train agents to play games.

Geometric Policy Iteration for Markov Decision Processes

Recently discovered polyhedral structures of the value function for finite state-action discounted Markov decision processes (MDP) shed light on understanding the success of reinforcement learning. We investigate the value function polytope in greater detail and characterize the polytope boundary using a hyperplane arrangement. We further show that the value space is a union of finitely many cells of the same hyperplane arrangement and relate it to the polytope of the classical linear programming formulation for MDPs. Inspired by these geometric properties, we propose a new algorithm, Geometric Policy Iteration (GPI), to solve discounted MDPs. GPI updates the policy of a single state by switching to an action that is mapped to the boundary of the value function polytope, followed by an immediate update of the value function. This new update rule aims at a faster value improvement without compromising computational efficiency. Moreover, our algorithm allows asynchronous updates of state values which is more flexible and advantageous compared to traditional policy iteration when the state set is large. We prove that the complexity of GPI achieves the best known bound $\mathcal{O}\left(\frac{|\mathcal{A}|}{1 - γ}\log \frac{1}{1-γ}\right)$ of policy iteration and empirically demonstrate the strength of GPI on MDPs of various sizes.

Variance-Aware Regret Bounds for Stochastic Contextual Dueling Bandits

Dueling bandits is a prominent framework for decision-making involving preferential feedback, a valuable feature that fits various applications involving human interaction, such as ranking, information retrieval, and recommendation systems. While substantial efforts have been made to minimize the cumulative regret in dueling bandits, a notable gap in the current research is the absence of regret bounds that account for the inherent uncertainty in pairwise comparisons between the dueling arms. Intuitively, greater uncertainty suggests a higher level of difficulty in the problem. To bridge this gap, this paper studies the problem of contextual dueling bandits, where the binary comparison of dueling arms is generated from a generalized linear model (GLM). We propose a new SupLinUCB-type algorithm that enjoys computational efficiency and a variance-aware regret bound $\tilde O\big(d\sqrt{\sum_{t=1}^Tσ_t^2} + d\big)$, where $σ_t$ is the variance of the pairwise comparison in round $t$, $d$ is the dimension of the context vectors, and $T$ is the time horizon. Our regret bound naturally aligns with the intuitive expectation in scenarios where the comparison is deterministic, the algorithm only suffers from an $\tilde O(d)$ regret. We perform empirical experiments on synthetic data to confirm the advantage of our method over previous variance-agnostic algorithms.

Error analysis of randomized Runge-Kutta methods for differential equations with time-irregular coefficients

This paper contains an error analysis of two randomized explicit Runge-Kutta schemes for ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with time-irregular coefficient functions. In particular, the methods are applicable to ODEs of Carathéodory type, whose coefficient functions are only integrable with respect to the time variable but are not assumed to be continuous. A further field of application are ODEs with coefficient functions that contain weak singularities with respect to the time variable. The main result consists of precise bounds for the discretization error with respect to the $L^p(Ω;\mathbb{R}^d)$-norm. In addition, convergence rates are also derived in the almost sure sense. An important ingredient in the analysis are corresponding error bounds for the randomized Riemann sum quadrature rule. The theoretical results are illustrated through a few numerical experiments.

FashionNTM: Multi-turn Fashion Image Retrieval via Cascaded Memory

Multi-turn textual feedback-based fashion image retrieval focuses on a real-world setting, where users can iteratively provide information to refine retrieval results until they find an item that fits all their requirements. In this work, we present a novel memory-based method, called FashionNTM, for such a multi-turn system. Our framework incorporates a new Cascaded Memory Neural Turing Machine (CM-NTM) approach for implicit state management, thereby learning to integrate information across all past turns to retrieve new images, for a given turn. Unlike vanilla Neural Turing Machine (NTM), our CM-NTM operates on multiple inputs, which interact with their respective memories via individual read and write heads, to learn complex relationships. Extensive evaluation results show that our proposed method outperforms the previous state-of-the-art algorithm by 50.5%, on Multi-turn FashionIQ -- the only existing multi-turn fashion dataset currently, in addition to having a relative improvement of 12.6% on Multi-turn Shoes -- an extension of the single-turn Shoes dataset that we created in this work. Further analysis of the model in a real-world interactive setting demonstrates two important capabilities of our model -- memory retention across turns, and agnosticity to turn order for non-contradictory feedback. Finally, user study results show that images retrieved by FashionNTM were favored by 83.1% over other multi-turn models. Project page: https://sites.google.com/eng.ucsd.edu/fashionntm

Self-Play Preference Optimization for Language Model Alignment

Standard reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) approaches relying on parametric models like the Bradley-Terry model fall short in capturing the intransitivity and irrationality in human preferences. Recent advancements suggest that directly working with preference probabilities can yield a more accurate reflection of human preferences, enabling more flexible and accurate language model alignment. In this paper, we propose a self-play-based method for language model alignment, which treats the problem as a constant-sum two-player game aimed at identifying the Nash equilibrium policy. Our approach, dubbed Self-Play Preference Optimization (SPPO), utilizes iterative policy updates to provably approximate the Nash equilibrium. Additionally, we propose a new SPPO objective which is both strongly motivated by theory and is simple and effective in practice. In our experiments, using only 60k prompts (without responses) from the UltraFeedback dataset and without any prompt augmentation, by leveraging a pre-trained preference model PairRM with only 0.4B parameters, SPPO can obtain a model from fine-tuning Mistral-7B-Instruct-v0.2 that achieves the state-of-the-art length-controlled win-rate of 28.53% against GPT-4-Turbo on AlpacaEval 2.0. It also outperforms the (iterative) DPO and IPO on MT-Bench, Arena-Hard, and the Open LLM Leaderboard. Starting from a stronger base model Llama-3-8B-Instruct, we are able to achieve a length-controlled win rate of 38.77%. Notably, the strong performance of SPPO is achieved without additional external supervision (e.g., responses, preferences, etc.) from GPT-4 or other stronger language models. PIXART-δ: Fast and Controllable Image Generation with Latent Consistency Models

This technical report introduces PIXART-δ, a text-to-image synthesis framework that integrates the Latent Consistency Model (LCM) and ControlNet into the advanced PIXART-α model. PIXART-α is recognized for its ability to generate high-quality images of 1024px resolution through a remarkably efficient training process. The integration of LCM in PIXART-δ significantly accelerates the inference speed, enabling the production of high-quality images in just 2-4 steps. Notably, PIXART-δ achieves a breakthrough 0.5 seconds for generating 1024x1024 pixel images, marking a 7x improvement over the PIXART-α. Additionally, PIXART-δ is designed to be efficiently trainable on 32GB V100 GPUs within a single day. With its 8-bit inference capability (von Platen et al., 2023), PIXART-δ can synthesize 1024px images within 8GB GPU memory constraints, greatly enhancing its usability and accessibility. Furthermore, incorporating a ControlNet-like module enables fine-grained control over text-to-image diffusion models. We introduce a novel ControlNet-Transformer architecture, specifically tailored for Transformers, achieving explicit controllability alongside high-quality image generation. As a state-of-the-art, open-source image generation model, PIXART-δ offers a promising alternative to the Stable Diffusion family of models, contributing significantly to text-to-image synthesis.

Structure-aware Domain Knowledge Injection for Large Language Models

This paper introduces a pioneering methodology, termed StructTuning, to efficiently transform foundation Large Language Models (LLMs) into domain specialists. It significantly reduces the training corpus needs to a mere 5% while achieving an impressive 100% of traditional knowledge injection performance. Motivated by structured human education, we propose a novel two-stage strategy for knowledge injection and alignment: Structure-aware Continual Pre-Training (SCPT) and Structure-aware Supervised Fine-Tuning (SSFT). In the SCPT phase, we automatically extract the domain knowledge taxonomy and reorganize the training corpora, enabling LLMs to effectively link textual segments to targeted knowledge points within the taxonomy. In the SSFT phase, we explicitly prompt models to elucidate the underlying knowledge structure in their outputs, leveraging the structured domain insight to address practical problems. Our ultimate method was extensively evaluated across model architectures and scales on LongBench and MMedBench datasets, demonstrating superior performance against other knowledge injection methods. We also explored our method's scalability across different training corpus sizes, laying the foundation to enhance domain-specific LLMs with better data utilization.

Bayesian Layer Graph Convolutioanl Network for Hyperspetral Image Classification

In recent years, research on hyperspectral image (HSI) classification has continuous progress on introducing deep network models, and recently the graph convolutional network (GCN) based models have shown impressive performance. However, these deep learning frameworks based on point estimation suffer from low generalization and inability to quantify the classification results uncertainty. On the other hand, simply applying the Bayesian Neural Network (BNN) based on distribution estimation to classify the HSI is unable to achieve high classification accuracy due to the large amount of parameters. In this paper, we design a Bayesian layer with Bayesian idea as an insertion layer into point estimation based neural networks, and propose a Bayesian Layer Graph Convolutional Network (BLGCN) model by combining graph convolution operations, which can effectively extract graph information and estimate the uncertainty of classification results. Moreover, a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) is built to solve the sample imbalance problem of HSI dataset. Finally, we design a dynamic control training strategy based on the confidence interval of the classification results, which will terminate the training early when the confidence interval reaches the preseted threshold. The experimental results show that our model achieves a balance between high classification accuracy and strong generalization. In addition, it can quantifies the uncertainty of the classification results.

Towards Consistency and Complementarity: A Multiview Graph Information Bottleneck Approach

The empirical studies of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) broadly take the original node feature and adjacency relationship as singleview input, ignoring the rich information of multiple graph views. To circumvent this issue, the multiview graph analysis framework has been developed to fuse graph information across views. How to model and integrate shared (i.e. consistency) and view-specific (i.e. complementarity) information is a key issue in multiview graph analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel Multiview Variational Graph Information Bottleneck (MVGIB) principle to maximize the agreement for common representations and the disagreement for view-specific representations. Under this principle, we formulate the common and view-specific information bottleneck objectives across multiviews by using constraints from mutual information. However, these objectives are hard to directly optimize since the mutual information is computationally intractable. To tackle this challenge, we derive variational lower and upper bounds of mutual information terms, and then instead optimize variational bounds to find the approximate solutions for the information objectives. Extensive experiments on graph benchmark datasets demonstrate the superior effectiveness of the proposed method.
