McQueen: a Benchmark for Multimodal Conversational Query RewriteYifei Yuan, Chen Shi, Runze Wang et al.
The task of query rewrite aims to convert an in-context query to its fully-specified version where ellipsis and coreference are completed and referred-back according to the history context. Although much progress has been made, less efforts have been paid to real scenario conversations that involve drawing information from more than one modalities. In this paper, we propose the task of multimodal conversational query rewrite (McQR), which performs query rewrite under the multimodal visual conversation setting. We collect a large-scale dataset named McQueen based on manual annotation, which contains 15k visual conversations and over 80k queries where each one is associated with a fully-specified rewrite version. In addition, for entities appearing in the rewrite, we provide the corresponding image box annotation. We then use the McQueen dataset to benchmark a state-of-the-art method for effectively tackling the McQR task, which is based on a multimodal pre-trained model with pointer generator. Extensive experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model on this task\footnote{The dataset and code of this paper are both available in \url{https://github.com/yfyuan01/MQR}

Graph-Augmented LLMs for Swiss MP Ideology PredictionYifei Yuan, Luis Salamanca, Sophia Schlosser et al.
Approximating the ideological position of Members of Parliament (MPs) is a fundamental task in political science, helping researchers understand legislative behavior, party alignment, and policy preferences. While Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown promising results in estimating MPs' ideological stances, there are more actors and elements in the parliamentary system, and relations between them, that could provide a wider and more informative picture. However, due to the complexity of integrating them in the prediction task, these additional elements are generally ignored. In this work, we propose an LLM framework, PG-RAG, that implements a retrieval-augmented generation pipeline: it first queries a political knowledge graph (KG) and then integrates the resulting graph-structured information into the context. This allows for capturing both textual semantics and inter-MP relationships, another relevant information source in any parliamentary system. We evaluate the approach on the task of ideology prediction, using data from a Swiss parliamentary dataset. When comparing graph-augmented models against several state-of-the-art baselines, the results demonstrate that incorporating this enriched information, which encodes information about different entities and relations, improves prediction performance. These results help to highlight the value of domain-specific relational information in modeling political behavior.

Sentiment Analysis of Fashion Related Posts in Social MediaYifei Yuan, Wai Lam
The role of social media in fashion industry has been blooming as the years have continued on. In this work, we investigate sentiment analysis for fashion related posts in social media platforms. There are two main challenges of this task. On the first place, information of different modalities must be jointly considered to make the final predictions. On the second place, some unique fashion related attributes should be taken into account. While most existing works focus on traditional multimodal sentiment analysis, they always fail to exploit the fashion related attributes in this task. We propose a novel framework that jointly leverages the image vision, post text, as well as fashion attribute modality to determine the sentiment category. One characteristic of our model is that it extracts fashion attributes and integrates them with the image vision information for effective representation. Furthermore, it exploits the mutual relationship between the fashion attributes and the post texts via a mutual attention mechanism. Since there is no existing dataset suitable for this task, we prepare a large-scale sentiment analysis dataset of over 12k fashion related social media posts. Extensive experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model.
Aspect Sentiment Quad Prediction as Paraphrase GenerationWenxuan Zhang, Yang Deng, Xin Li et al.
Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) has been extensively studied in recent years, which typically involves four fundamental sentiment elements, including the aspect category, aspect term, opinion term, and sentiment polarity. Existing studies usually consider the detection of partial sentiment elements, instead of predicting the four elements in one shot. In this work, we introduce the Aspect Sentiment Quad Prediction (ASQP) task, aiming to jointly detect all sentiment elements in quads for a given opinionated sentence, which can reveal a more comprehensive and complete aspect-level sentiment structure. We further propose a novel \textsc{Paraphrase} modeling paradigm to cast the ASQP task to a paraphrase generation process. On one hand, the generation formulation allows solving ASQP in an end-to-end manner, alleviating the potential error propagation in the pipeline solution. On the other hand, the semantics of the sentiment elements can be fully exploited by learning to generate them in the natural language form. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets show the superiority of our proposed method and the capacity of cross-task transfer with the proposed unified \textsc{Paraphrase} modeling framework.
