mm-Wave Radar Hand Shape Classification Using Deformable TransformersAthmanarayanan Lakshmi Narayanan, Asma Beevi K. T, Haoyang Wu et al.
A novel, real-time, mm-Wave radar-based static hand shape classification algorithm and implementation are proposed. The method finds several applications in low cost and privacy sensitive touchless control technology using 60 Ghz radar as the sensor input. As opposed to prior Range-Doppler image based 2D classification solutions, our method converts raw radar data to 3D sparse cartesian point clouds.The demonstrated 3D radar neural network model using deformable transformers significantly surpasses the performance results set by prior methods which either utilize custom signal processing or apply generic convolutional techniques on Range-Doppler FFT images. Experiments are performed on an internally collected dataset using an off-the-shelf radar sensor.

Vero: An Open RL Recipe for General Visual ReasoningGabriel Sarch, Linrong Cai, Qunzhong Wang et al.
What does it take to build a visual reasoner that works across charts, science, spatial understanding, and open-ended tasks? The strongest vision-language models (VLMs) show such broad visual reasoning is within reach, but the recipe behind them remains unclear, locked behind proprietary reinforcement learning (RL) pipelines with non-public data. We introduce Vero, a family of fully open VLMs that matches or exceeds existing open-weight models across diverse visual reasoning tasks. We scale RL data and rewards across six broad task categories, constructing Vero-600K, a 600K-sample dataset from 59 datasets, and designing task-routed rewards that handle heterogeneous answer formats. Vero achieves state-of-the-art performance, improving over four base models by 3.7-5.5 points on average across VeroEval, our suite of 30 challenging benchmarks. Starting from Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct, Vero outperforms Qwen3-VL-8B-Thinking on 23 of 30 benchmarks without additional proprietary thinking data. When trained from the same base model, Vero-600K exceeds existing RL datasets across task categories. Systematic ablations reveal that different task categories elicit qualitatively distinct reasoning patterns that transfer poorly in isolation, suggesting that broad data coverage is the primary driver of strong RL scaling. Pseudo-Knowledge Graph: Meta-Path Guided Retrieval and In-Graph Text for RAG-Equipped LLMYuxin Yang, Haoyang Wu, Tao Wang et al.
The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) has revolutionized natural language processing. However, these models face challenges in retrieving precise information from vast datasets. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) was developed to combining LLMs with external information retrieval systems to enhance the accuracy and context of responses. Despite improvements, RAG still struggles with comprehensive retrieval in high-volume, low-information-density databases and lacks relational awareness, leading to fragmented answers. To address this, this paper introduces the Pseudo-Knowledge Graph (PKG) framework, designed to overcome these limitations by integrating Meta-path Retrieval, In-graph Text and Vector Retrieval into LLMs. By preserving natural language text and leveraging various retrieval techniques, the PKG offers a richer knowledge representation and improves accuracy in information retrieval. Extensive evaluations using Open Compass and MultiHop-RAG benchmarks demonstrate the framework's effectiveness in managing large volumes of data and complex relationships.

Holistic Surgical Phase Recognition with Hierarchical Input Dependent State Space ModelsHaoyang Wu, Tsun-Hsuan Wang, Mathias Lechner et al.
Surgical workflow analysis is essential in robot-assisted surgeries, yet the long duration of such procedures poses significant challenges for comprehensive video analysis. Recent approaches have predominantly relied on transformer models; however, their quadratic attention mechanism restricts efficient processing of lengthy surgical videos. In this paper, we propose a novel hierarchical input-dependent state space model that leverages the linear scaling property of state space models to enable decision making on full-length videos while capturing both local and global dynamics. Our framework incorporates a temporally consistent visual feature extractor, which appends a state space model head to a visual feature extractor to propagate temporal information. The proposed model consists of two key modules: a local-aggregation state space model block that effectively captures intricate local dynamics, and a global-relation state space model block that models temporal dependencies across the entire video. The model is trained using a hybrid discrete-continuous supervision strategy, where both signals of discrete phase labels and continuous phase progresses are propagated through the network. Experiments have shown that our method outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods by a large margin (+2.8% on Cholec80, +4.3% on MICCAI2016, and +12.9% on Heichole datasets).
