Progressive End-to-End Object Detection in Crowded ScenesAnlin Zheng, Yuang Zhang, Xiangyu Zhang et al.
In this paper, we propose a new query-based detection framework for crowd detection. Previous query-based detectors suffer from two drawbacks: first, multiple predictions will be inferred for a single object, typically in crowded scenes; second, the performance saturates as the depth of the decoding stage increases. Benefiting from the nature of the one-to-one label assignment rule, we propose a progressive predicting method to address the above issues. Specifically, we first select accepted queries prone to generate true positive predictions, then refine the rest noisy queries according to the previously accepted predictions. Experiments show that our method can significantly boost the performance of query-based detectors in crowded scenes. Equipped with our approach, Sparse RCNN achieves 92.0\% $\text{AP}$, 41.4\% $\text{MR}^{-2}$ and 83.2\% $\text{JI}$ on the challenging CrowdHuman \cite{shao2018crowdhuman} dataset, outperforming the box-based method MIP \cite{chu2020detection} that specifies in handling crowded scenarios. Moreover, the proposed method, robust to crowdedness, can still obtain consistent improvements on moderately and slightly crowded datasets like CityPersons \cite{zhang2017citypersons} and COCO \cite{lin2014microsoft}. MOTRv2: Bootstrapping End-to-End Multi-Object Tracking by Pretrained Object DetectorsYuang Zhang, Tiancai Wang, Xiangyu Zhang
In this paper, we propose MOTRv2, a simple yet effective pipeline to bootstrap end-to-end multi-object tracking with a pretrained object detector. Existing end-to-end methods, MOTR and TrackFormer are inferior to their tracking-by-detection counterparts mainly due to their poor detection performance. We aim to improve MOTR by elegantly incorporating an extra object detector. We first adopt the anchor formulation of queries and then use an extra object detector to generate proposals as anchors, providing detection prior to MOTR. The simple modification greatly eases the conflict between joint learning detection and association tasks in MOTR. MOTRv2 keeps the query propogation feature and scales well on large-scale benchmarks. MOTRv2 ranks the 1st place (73.4% HOTA on DanceTrack) in the 1st Multiple People Tracking in Group Dance Challenge. Moreover, MOTRv2 reaches state-of-the-art performance on the BDD100K dataset. CameraNoise: Enabling Faithful Camera Control in Video Diffusion through Geometry-Flow-Guided Noise WarpingHaoyu Zhao, Jiaxi Gu, Haoran Chen et al.
Precise camera pose control is critical for video diffusion, yet maintaining geometric consistency remains a challenge. Existing methods that directly inject numerical camera parameters into the diffusion backbone often fail to bridge the gap between abstract coordinates and visual content, leading to structural distortions. To address this issue, we propose CameraNoise, a flow-to-noise warping method that encodes camera motion into a temporally coherent stochastic representation. Unlike conventional conditioning, CameraNoise embeds camera poses directly into the noise space. This decouples motion from scene appearance while faithfully preserving trajectory dynamics. Specifically, we introduce a novel Geometry-guided Reprojection Flow and a noise warping algorithm, which jointly preserve the Gaussian prior of diffusion and ensure consistent noise propagation under camera transformations. By integrating CameraNoise into the diffusion process, our framework delivers stable, high-fidelity videos. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms prior methods in both visual quality and trajectory faithfulness. OnlineRefer: A Simple Online Baseline for Referring Video Object SegmentationDongming Wu, Tiancai Wang, Yuang Zhang et al.
Referring video object segmentation (RVOS) aims at segmenting an object in a video following human instruction. Current state-of-the-art methods fall into an offline pattern, in which each clip independently interacts with text embedding for cross-modal understanding. They usually present that the offline pattern is necessary for RVOS, yet model limited temporal association within each clip. In this work, we break up the previous offline belief and propose a simple yet effective online model using explicit query propagation, named OnlineRefer. Specifically, our approach leverages target cues that gather semantic information and position prior to improve the accuracy and ease of referring predictions for the current frame. Furthermore, we generalize our online model into a semi-online framework to be compatible with video-based backbones. To show the effectiveness of our method, we evaluate it on four benchmarks, \ie, Refer-Youtube-VOS, Refer-DAVIS17, A2D-Sentences, and JHMDB-Sentences. Without bells and whistles, our OnlineRefer with a Swin-L backbone achieves 63.5 J&F and 64.8 J&F on Refer-Youtube-VOS and Refer-DAVIS17, outperforming all other offline methods.

Fraud can pose a challenge in many resource allocation domains, including social service delivery and credit provision. For example, agents may misreport private information in order to gain benefits or access to credit. To mitigate this, a principal can design strategic audits to verify claims and penalize misreporting. In this paper, we introduce a general model of audit policy design as a principal-agent game with multiple agents, where the principal commits to an audit policy, and agents collectively choose an equilibrium that minimizes the principal's utility. We examine both adaptive and non-adaptive settings, depending on whether the principal's policy can be responsive to the distribution of agent reports. Our work provides efficient algorithms for computing optimal audit policies in both settings and extends these results to a setting with limited audit budgets.

VLM-Eval: A General Evaluation on Video Large Language ModelsShuailin Li, Yuang Zhang, Yucheng Zhao et al.
Despite the rapid development of video Large Language Models (LLMs), a comprehensive evaluation is still absent. In this paper, we introduce a unified evaluation that encompasses multiple video tasks, including captioning, question and answering, retrieval, and action recognition. In addition to conventional metrics, we showcase how GPT-based evaluation can match human-like performance in assessing response quality across multiple aspects. We propose a simple baseline: Video-LLaVA, which uses a single linear projection and outperforms existing video LLMs. Finally, we evaluate video LLMs beyond academic datasets, which show encouraging recognition and reasoning capabilities in driving scenarios with only hundreds of video-instruction pairs for fine-tuning. We hope our work can serve as a unified evaluation for video LLMs, and help expand more practical scenarios. The evaluation code will be available soon.

TAU-R1: Visual Language Model for Traffic Anomaly UnderstandingYuqiang Lin, Kehua Chen, Sam Lockyer et al.
Traffic Anomaly Understanding (TAU) is important for traffic safety in Intelligent Transportation Systems. Recent vision-language models (VLMs) have shown strong capabilities in video understanding. However, progress on TAU remains limited due to the lack of benchmarks and task-specific methodologies. To address this limitation, we introduce Roundabout-TAU, a dataset constructed from real-world roundabout videos collected in collaboration with the City of Carmel, Indiana. The dataset contains 342 clips and is annotated with more than 2,000 question-answer pairs covering multiple aspects of traffic anomaly understanding. Building on this benchmark, we propose TAU-R1, a two-layer vision-language framework for TAU. The first layer is a lightweight anomaly classifier that performs coarse anomaly categorisation, while the second layer is a larger anomaly reasoner that generates detailed event summaries. To improve task-specific reasoning, we introduce a two-stage training strategy consisting of decomposed-QA-enhanced supervised fine-tuning followed by TAU-GRPO, a GRPO-based post-training method with TAU-specific reward functions. Experimental results show that TAU-R1 achieves strong performance on both anomaly classification and reasoning tasks while maintaining deployment efficiency. The 1st-place Solution for ECCV 2022 Multiple People Tracking in Group Dance ChallengeYuang Zhang, Tiancai Wang, Weiyao Lin et al.
We present our 1st place solution to the Group Dance Multiple People Tracking Challenge. Based on MOTR: End-to-End Multiple-Object Tracking with Transformer, we explore: 1) detect queries as anchors, 2) tracking as query denoising, 3) joint training on pseudo video clips generated from CrowdHuman dataset, and 4) using the YOLOX detection proposals for the anchor initialization of detect queries. Our method achieves 73.4% HOTA on the DanceTrack test set, surpassing the second-place solution by +6.8% HOTA.

Prototype-Guided Classification Sub-Task Decoupling Framework: Enhancing Generalization and Interpretability for Multivariate Time SeriesXianhao Song, Yuang Zhang, Yuqi She et al.
Time Series Classification (TSC) is a long-standing research problem that has gained increasing attention in recent years with the rapid growth of large-scale temporal data. Despite substantial progress enabled by deep learning, designing TSC models that are both accurate and interpretable remains a challenging task. Many existing approaches adopt a direct feature-to-label classification paradigm, by collapsing high-dimensional temporal embeddings into class logits via a single linear projection (often after global pooling), the paradigm conflates feature extraction and decision logic into an inseparable mapping. To address these limitations, we propose PDFTime, a prototype-guided framework that reformulates time series classification as a multi-stage decision process. Instead of direct feature-to-label mapping, PDFTime leverages learned prototypes to approximate class-conditional feature distributions in the latent space, enabling progressive discrimination through classification sub-tasks of varying granularity. To our knowledge, PDFTime is the first framework to reformulate time series classification as a decoupled, multi-stage similarity-based reasoning process, breaking the long-standing paradigm of direct, black-box feature-to-label mapping. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that PDFTime achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance across UEA and UCR benchmarks. Notably, it secures the top-$1$ accuracy on 80 out of 128 datasets in the UCR archive, significantly outperforming recent strong baselines in both consistency and generalization.

Mixture of Complementary Agents for Robust LLM EnsembleYichi Zhang, Kevin Lu, Yuang Zhang et al.
Multi-AI collaboration, such as ensembling or debating large language models (LLMs), is a promising paradigm for aggregating information and boosting performance. A foundational step in these pipelines is to feed the responses of several proposer LLMs into a summarizer LLM, which synthesizes a better answer. However, choosing which proposers to include is non-trivial. Existing approaches primarily focus either on accuracy (picking the strongest models) or diversity (ensuring variety), and often overlook the interactions among proposers and with the summarizer. We reframe proposer selection as a combinatorial selection problem akin to feature selection, where the value of an LLM lies in its complementarity with others. However, directly applying standard feature-selection algorithms is impractical in the LLM setting due to prohibitive time complexity. Motivated by this limitation, we explore an extensive range of computationally feasible, greedy-style selection algorithms that assess complementarity using a small labeled set. Our experiments validate complementarity as a guiding principle for proposer selection and identify methods that achieve the best performance-cost trade-offs in practice.

Shared Spatial Memory Through Predictive CodingZhengru Fang, Yu Guo, Jingjing Wang et al.
Sharing and reconstructing a consistent spatial memory is a critical challenge in multi-agent systems, where partial observability and limited bandwidth often lead to catastrophic failures in coordination. We introduce a multi-agent predictive coding framework that formulate coordination as the minimization of mutual uncertainty among agents. Instantiated as an information bottleneck objective, it prompts agents to learn not only who and what to communicate but also when. At the foundation of this framework lies a grid-cell-like metric as internal spatial coding for self-localization, emerging spontaneously from self-supervised motion prediction. Building upon this internal spatial code, agents gradually develop a bandwidth-efficient communication mechanism and specialized neural populations that encode partners' locations: an artificial analogue of hippocampal social place cells (SPCs). These social representations are further enacted by a hierarchical reinforcement learning policy that actively explores to reduce joint uncertainty. On the Memory-Maze benchmark, our approach shows exceptional resilience to bandwidth constraints: success degrades gracefully from 73.5% to 64.4% as bandwidth shrinks from 128 to 4 bits/step, whereas a full-broadcast baseline collapses from 67.6% to 28.6%. Our findings establish a theoretically principled and biologically plausible basis for how complex social representations emerge from a unified predictive drive, leading to social collective intelligence.

CT-1: Vision-Language-Camera Models Transfer Spatial Reasoning Knowledge to Camera-Controllable Video GenerationHaoyu Zhao, Zihao Zhang, Jiaxi Gu et al.
Camera-controllable video generation aims to synthesize videos with flexible and physically plausible camera movements. However, existing methods either provide imprecise camera control from text prompts or rely on labor-intensive manual camera trajectory parameters, limiting their use in automated scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a novel Vision-Language-Camera model, termed CT-1 (Camera Transformer 1), a specialized model designed to transfer spatial reasoning knowledge to video generation by accurately estimating camera trajectories. Built upon vision-language modules and a Diffusion Transformer model, CT-1 employs a Wavelet-based Regularization Loss in the frequency domain to effectively learn complex camera trajectory distributions. These trajectories are integrated into a video diffusion model to enable spatially aware camera control that aligns with user intentions. To facilitate the training of CT-1, we design a dedicated data curation pipeline and construct CT-200K, a large-scale dataset containing over 47M frames. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework successfully bridges the gap between spatial reasoning and video synthesis, yielding faithful and high-quality camera-controllable videos and improving camera control accuracy by 25.7% over prior methods.

MOTR: End-to-End Multiple-Object Tracking with TransformerFangao Zeng, Bin Dong, Yuang Zhang et al.
Temporal modeling of objects is a key challenge in multiple object tracking (MOT). Existing methods track by associating detections through motion-based and appearance-based similarity heuristics. The post-processing nature of association prevents end-to-end exploitation of temporal variations in video sequence. In this paper, we propose MOTR, which extends DETR and introduces track query to model the tracked instances in the entire video. Track query is transferred and updated frame-by-frame to perform iterative prediction over time. We propose tracklet-aware label assignment to train track queries and newborn object queries. We further propose temporal aggregation network and collective average loss to enhance temporal relation modeling. Experimental results on DanceTrack show that MOTR significantly outperforms state-of-the-art method, ByteTrack by 6.5% on HOTA metric. On MOT17, MOTR outperforms our concurrent works, TrackFormer and TransTrack, on association performance. MOTR can serve as a stronger baseline for future research on temporal modeling and Transformer-based trackers. Code is available at https://github.com/megvii-research/MOTR.

Agent-Centric Visual Reinforcement Learning under Dynamic PerturbationsZhengru Fang, Yu Guo, Fei Liu et al.
Visual reinforcement learning aims to empower an agent to learn policies from visual observations, yet it remains vulnerable to dynamic visual perturbations, such as unpredictable shifts in corruption types. To systematically study this, we introduce the Visual Degraded Control Suite (VDCS), a benchmark extending DeepMind Control Suite with Markov-switching degradations to simulate non-stationary real-world perturbations. Experiments on VDCS reveal severe performance degradation in existing methods. We theoretically prove via information-theoretic analysis that this failure stems from reconstruction-based objectives inevitably entangling perturbation artifacts into latent representations. To mitigate this negative impact, we propose Agent-Centric Observations with Mixture-of-Experts (ACO-MoE) to robustify visual RL against perturbations. The proposed framework leverages unique agent-centric restoration experts, achieving restoration from corruptions and task-relevant foreground extraction, thereby decoupling perception from perturbation before being processed by the RL agent. Extensive experiments on VDCS show our ACO-MoE outperforms strong baselines, recovering 95.3% of clean performance under challenging Markov-switching corruptions. Moreover, it achieves SOTA results on DMControl Generalization with random-color and video-background perturbations, demonstrating a high level of robustness.

SmartCooper: Vehicular Collaborative Perception with Adaptive Fusion and Judger MechanismYuang Zhang, Haonan An, Zhengru Fang et al.
In recent years, autonomous driving has garnered significant attention due to its potential for improving road safety through collaborative perception among connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). However, time-varying channel variations in vehicular transmission environments demand dynamic allocation of communication resources. Moreover, in the context of collaborative perception, it is important to recognize that not all CAVs contribute valuable data, and some CAV data even have detrimental effects on collaborative perception. In this paper, we introduce SmartCooper, an adaptive collaborative perception framework that incorporates communication optimization and a judger mechanism to facilitate CAV data fusion. Our approach begins with optimizing the connectivity of vehicles while considering communication constraints. We then train a learnable encoder to dynamically adjust the compression ratio based on the channel state information (CSI). Subsequently, we devise a judger mechanism to filter the detrimental image data reconstructed by adaptive decoders. We evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm on the OpenCOOD platform. Our results demonstrate a substantial reduction in communication costs by 23.10\% compared to the non-judger scheme. Additionally, we achieve a significant improvement on the average precision of Intersection over Union (AP@IoU) by 7.15\% compared with state-of-the-art schemes.

EntropyStop: Unsupervised Deep Outlier Detection with Loss EntropyYihong Huang, Yuang Zhang, Liping Wang et al.
Unsupervised Outlier Detection (UOD) is an important data mining task. With the advance of deep learning, deep Outlier Detection (OD) has received broad interest. Most deep UOD models are trained exclusively on clean datasets to learn the distribution of the normal data, which requires huge manual efforts to clean the real-world data if possible. Instead of relying on clean datasets, some approaches directly train and detect on unlabeled contaminated datasets, leading to the need for methods that are robust to such conditions. Ensemble methods emerged as a superior solution to enhance model robustness against contaminated training sets. However, the training time is greatly increased by the ensemble. In this study, we investigate the impact of outliers on the training phase, aiming to halt training on unlabeled contaminated datasets before performance degradation. Initially, we noted that blending normal and anomalous data causes AUC fluctuations, a label-dependent measure of detection accuracy. To circumvent the need for labels, we propose a zero-label entropy metric named Loss Entropy for loss distribution, enabling us to infer optimal stopping points for training without labels. Meanwhile, we theoretically demonstrate negative correlation between entropy metric and the label-based AUC. Based on this, we develop an automated early-stopping algorithm, EntropyStop, which halts training when loss entropy suggests the maximum model detection capability. We conduct extensive experiments on ADBench (including 47 real datasets), and the overall results indicate that AutoEncoder (AE) enhanced by our approach not only achieves better performance than ensemble AEs but also requires under 2\% of training time. Lastly, our proposed metric and early-stopping approach are evaluated on other deep OD models, exhibiting their broad potential applicability.

Colorization is a traditional computer vision task and it plays an important role in many time-consuming tasks, such as old film restoration. Existing methods suffer from unsaturated color and temporally inconsistency. In this paper, we propose a novel pipeline to overcome the challenges. We regard the colorization task as a generative task and introduce Stable Video Diffusion (SVD) as our base model. We design a palette-based color guider to assist the model in generating vivid and consistent colors. The color context introduced by the palette not only provides guidance for color generation, but also enhances the stability of the generated colors through a unified color context across multiple sequences. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can provide vivid and stable colors for videos, surpassing previous methods.

Diffusion^2: Dual Diffusion Model with Uncertainty-Aware Adaptive Noise for Momentary Trajectory PredictionYuhao Luo, Yuang Zhang, Kehua Chen et al.
Accurate pedestrian trajectory prediction is crucial for ensuring safety and efficiency in autonomous driving and human-robot interaction scenarios. Earlier studies primarily utilized sufficient observational data to predict future trajectories. However, in real-world scenarios, such as pedestrians suddenly emerging from blind spots, sufficient observational data is often unavailable (i.e. momentary trajectory), making accurate prediction challenging and increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Therefore, advancing research on pedestrian trajectory prediction under extreme scenarios is critical for enhancing traffic safety. In this work, we propose a novel framework termed Diffusion^2, tailored for momentary trajectory prediction. Diffusion^2 consists of two sequentially connected diffusion models: one for backward prediction, which generates unobserved historical trajectories, and the other for forward prediction, which forecasts future trajectories. Given that the generated unobserved historical trajectories may introduce additional noise, we propose a dual-head parameterization mechanism to estimate their aleatoric uncertainty and design a temporally adaptive noise module that dynamically modulates the noise scale in the forward diffusion process. Empirically, Diffusion^2 sets a new state-of-the-art in momentary trajectory prediction on ETH/UCY and Stanford Drone datasets.

A Comprehensive Review on Artificial Intelligence Empowered Solutions for Enhancing Pedestrian and Cyclist SafetyShucheng Zhang, Yan Shi, Bingzhang Wang et al.
Ensuring the safety of vulnerable road users (VRUs), such as pedestrians and cyclists, remains a critical global challenge, as conventional infrastructure-based measures often prove inadequate in dynamic urban environments. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in visual perception and reasoning, open new opportunities for proactive and context-aware VRU protection. However, existing surveys on AI applications for VRUs predominantly focus on detection, offering limited coverage of other vision-based tasks that are essential for comprehensive VRU understanding and protection. This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of recent progress in camera-based AI sensing systems for VRU safety, with an emphasis on developments from the past five years and emerging research trends. We systematically examine four core tasks, namely detection and classification, tracking and reidentification, trajectory prediction, and intent recognition and prediction, which together form the backbone of AI-empowered proactive solutions for VRU protection in intelligent transportation systems. To guide future research, we highlight four major open challenges from the perspectives of data, model, and deployment. By linking advances in visual AI with practical considerations for real-world implementation, this survey aims to provide a foundational reference for the development of next-generation sensing systems to enhance VRU safety.

ShoulderShot: Generating Over-the-Shoulder Dialogue VideosYuang Zhang, Junqi Cheng, Haoyu Zhao et al.
Over-the-shoulder dialogue videos are essential in films, short dramas, and advertisements, providing visual variety and enhancing viewers' emotional connection. Despite their importance, such dialogue scenes remain largely underexplored in video generation research. The main challenges include maintaining character consistency across different shots, creating a sense of spatial continuity, and generating long, multi-turn dialogues within limited computational budgets. Here, we present ShoulderShot, a framework that combines dual-shot generation with looping video, enabling extended dialogues while preserving character consistency. Our results demonstrate capabilities that surpass existing methods in terms of shot-reverse-shot layout, spatial continuity, and flexibility in dialogue length, thereby opening up new possibilities for practical dialogue video generation. GradStop: Exploring Training Dynamics in Unsupervised Outlier Detection through GradientYuang Zhang, Liping Wang, Yihong Huang et al.
Unsupervised Outlier Detection (UOD) is a critical task in data mining and machine learning, aiming to identify instances that significantly deviate from the majority. Without any label, deep UOD methods struggle with the misalignment between the model's direct optimization goal and the final performance goal of Outlier Detection (OD) task. Through the perspective of training dynamics, this paper proposes an early stopping algorithm to optimize the training of deep UOD models, ensuring they perform optimally in OD rather than overfitting the entire contaminated dataset. Inspired by UOD mechanism and inlier priority phenomenon, where intuitively models fit inliers more quickly than outliers, we propose GradStop, a sampling-based label-free algorithm to estimate model's real-time performance during training. First, a sampling method generates two sets: one likely containing more outliers and the other more inliers, then a metric based on gradient cohesion is applied to probe into current training dynamics, which reflects model's performance on OD task. Experimental results on 4 deep UOD algorithms and 47 real-world datasets and theoretical proofs demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed early stopping algorithm in enhancing the performance of deep UOD models. Auto Encoder (AE) enhanced by GradStop achieves better performance than itself, other SOTA UOD methods, and even ensemble AEs. Our method provides a robust and effective solution to the problem of performance degradation during training, enabling deep UOD models to achieve better potential in anomaly detection tasks.

MimicMotion: High-Quality Human Motion Video Generation with Confidence-aware Pose GuidanceYuang Zhang, Jiaxi Gu, Li-Wen Wang et al.
In recent years, generative artificial intelligence has achieved significant advancements in the field of image generation, spawning a variety of applications. However, video generation still faces considerable challenges in various aspects, such as controllability, video length, and richness of details, which hinder the application and popularization of this technology. In this work, we propose a controllable video generation framework, dubbed MimicMotion, which can generate high-quality videos of arbitrary length mimicking specific motion guidance. Compared with previous methods, our approach has several highlights. Firstly, we introduce confidence-aware pose guidance that ensures high frame quality and temporal smoothness. Secondly, we introduce regional loss amplification based on pose confidence, which significantly reduces image distortion. Lastly, for generating long and smooth videos, we propose a progressive latent fusion strategy. By this means, we can produce videos of arbitrary length with acceptable resource consumption. With extensive experiments and user studies, MimicMotion demonstrates significant improvements over previous approaches in various aspects. Unleashing the Potential of Unsupervised Deep Outlier Detection through Automated Training StoppingYihong Huang, Yuang Zhang, Liping Wang et al.
Outlier detection (OD) has received continuous research interests due to its wide applications. With the development of deep learning, increasingly deep OD algorithms are proposed. Despite the availability of numerous deep OD models, existing research has reported that the performance of deep models is extremely sensitive to the configuration of hyperparameters (HPs). However, the selection of HPs for deep OD models remains a notoriously difficult task due to the lack of any labels and long list of HPs. In our study. we shed light on an essential factor, training time, that can introduce significant variation in the performance of deep model. Even the performance is stable across other HPs, training time itself can cause a serious HP sensitivity issue. Motivated by this finding, we are dedicated to formulating a strategy to terminate model training at the optimal iteration. Specifically, we propose a novel metric called loss entropy to internally evaluate the model performance during training while an automated training stopping algorithm is devised. To our knowledge, our approach is the first to enable reliable identification of the optimal training iteration during training without requiring any labels. Our experiments on tabular, image datasets show that our approach can be applied to diverse deep models and datasets. It not only enhances the robustness of deep models to their HPs, but also improves the performance and reduces plenty of training time compared to naive training.

MOTRv3: Release-Fetch Supervision for End-to-End Multi-Object TrackingEn Yu, Tiancai Wang, Zhuoling Li et al.
Although end-to-end multi-object trackers like MOTR enjoy the merits of simplicity, they suffer from the conflict between detection and association seriously, resulting in unsatisfactory convergence dynamics. While MOTRv2 partly addresses this problem, it demands an additional detection network for assistance. In this work, we serve as the first to reveal that this conflict arises from the unfair label assignment between detect queries and track queries during training, where these detect queries recognize targets and track queries associate them. Based on this observation, we propose MOTRv3, which balances the label assignment process using the developed release-fetch supervision strategy. In this strategy, labels are first released for detection and gradually fetched back for association. Besides, another two strategies named pseudo label distillation and track group denoising are designed to further improve the supervision for detection and association. Without the assistance of an extra detection network during inference, MOTRv3 achieves impressive performance across diverse benchmarks, e.g., MOT17, DanceTrack.

Pedestrian detection in a crowd is a challenging task due to a high number of mutually-occluding human instances, which brings ambiguity and optimization difficulties to the current IoU-based ground truth assignment procedure in classical object detection methods. In this paper, we develop a unique perspective of pedestrian detection as a variational inference problem. We formulate a novel and efficient algorithm for pedestrian detection by modeling the dense proposals as a latent variable while proposing a customized Auto Encoding Variational Bayes (AEVB) algorithm. Through the optimization of our proposed algorithm, a classical detector can be fashioned into a variational pedestrian detector. Experiments conducted on CrowdHuman and CityPersons datasets show that the proposed algorithm serves as an efficient solution to handle the dense pedestrian detection problem for the case of single-stage detectors. Our method can also be flexibly applied to two-stage detectors, achieving notable performance enhancement.
