Pano2Room: Novel View Synthesis from a Single Indoor PanoramaGuo Pu, Yiming Zhao, Zhouhui Lian
Recent single-view 3D generative methods have made significant advancements by leveraging knowledge distilled from extensive 3D object datasets. However, challenges persist in the synthesis of 3D scenes from a single view, primarily due to the complexity of real-world environments and the limited availability of high-quality prior resources. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach called Pano2Room, designed to automatically reconstruct high-quality 3D indoor scenes from a single panoramic image. These panoramic images can be easily generated using a panoramic RGBD inpainter from captures at a single location with any camera. The key idea is to initially construct a preliminary mesh from the input panorama, and iteratively refine this mesh using a panoramic RGBD inpainter while collecting photo-realistic 3D-consistent pseudo novel views. Finally, the refined mesh is converted into a 3D Gaussian Splatting field and trained with the collected pseudo novel views. This pipeline enables the reconstruction of real-world 3D scenes, even in the presence of large occlusions, and facilitates the synthesis of photo-realistic novel views with detailed geometry. Extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments have been conducted to validate the superiority of our method in single-panorama indoor novel synthesis compared to the state-of-the-art. ActMVS: Active Scene Reconstruction with Monocular Multi-View StereoGuo Pu, Yixuan Han, Zhouhui Lian
Active scene reconstruction enables robots/UAVs to autonomously plan trajectories and reconstruct environments without costly manual data acquisition. Unlike passive methods, active reconstruction requires real-time construction of high-confidence occupancy maps for collision-free navigation. Existing approaches rely on depth sensors for occupancy map updates, increasing platform cost and weight. To advance spatial intelligence, we aim for a vision-only monocular solution. However, current monocular scene reconstruction methods operate offline and fail to deliver globally consistent dense depth at the frame rates required for robots/UAVs navigation. To bridge this gap, we introduce ActMVS, the first framework for monocular active reconstruction. Our framework integrates a view factor graph construction for informed Multi-View Stereo depth prediction, along with a global depth optimization, to enable the online generation of high-quality, globally consistent dense depth maps. This enables monocular robots/UAVs to maintain reliable occupancy maps for safe trajectory planning during reconstruction. Experiments on Replica datasets demonstrate performance competitive with RGB-D methods. Our code and data are available at https://github.com/TrickyGo/ActMVS.
SinMPI: Novel View Synthesis from a Single Image with Expanded Multiplane ImagesGuo Pu, Peng-Shuai Wang, Zhouhui Lian
Single-image novel view synthesis is a challenging and ongoing problem that aims to generate an infinite number of consistent views from a single input image. Although significant efforts have been made to advance the quality of generated novel views, less attention has been paid to the expansion of the underlying scene representation, which is crucial to the generation of realistic novel view images. This paper proposes SinMPI, a novel method that uses an expanded multiplane image (MPI) as the 3D scene representation to significantly expand the perspective range of MPI and generate high-quality novel views from a large multiplane space. The key idea of our method is to use Stable Diffusion to generate out-of-view contents, project all scene contents into an expanded multiplane image according to depths predicted by monocular depth estimators, and then optimize the multiplane image under the supervision of pseudo multi-view data generated by a depth-aware warping and inpainting module. Both qualitative and quantitative experiments have been conducted to validate the superiority of our method to the state of the art. Our code and data are available at https://github.com/TrickyGo/SinMPI.
MoonSplat: Monocular Online Gaussian Splatting with Sim(3) Global OptimizationGuo Pu, Yixuan Han, Haofeng Li et al.
Online 3D reconstruction from monocular image sequences is a challenging and ongoing research topic. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), leveraging its high-quality real-time rendering capability, empowers online 3D reconstruction to represent dense scenes with enhanced expressiveness, and thus holds great promise for a wide range of applications such as robotics and AR/VR. However, existing online 3DGS methods still suffer from some key challenges: fragile camera pose estimation due to the lack of global optimization, and low optimization efficiency in large-scale or long-sequence scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a robust and efficient online voxelized 3DGS reconstruction framework integrated with global $\text{Sim}(3)$ optimization, which enables reliable camera tracking and efficient global loop closure for both camera poses and voxelized 3DGS. To accelerate the convergence of the voxelized 3DGS, we further introduce a color residual learning strategy, which not only boosts optimization speed but also enhances rendering quality. Extensive experiments on diverse indoor and outdoor datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both camera pose estimation accuracy and rendering quality, while retaining real-time efficiency. Additionally, we develop and deploy a real-world UAV-based active reconstruction system grounded on our proposed method, validating its robustness and generalizability for practical online 3D reconstruction tasks.
