Towards Sparse Video Understanding and Reasoning

We present \revise (\underline{Re}asoning with \underline{Vi}deo \underline{S}parsity), a multi-round agent for video question answering (VQA). Instead of uniformly sampling frames, \revise selects a small set of informative frames, maintains a summary-as-state across rounds, and stops early when confident. It supports proprietary vision-language models (VLMs) in a ``plug-and-play'' setting and enables reinforcement fine-tuning for open-source models. For fine-tuning, we introduce EAGER (Evidence-Adjusted Gain for Efficient Reasoning), an annotation-free reward with three terms: (1) Confidence gain: after new frames are added, we reward the increase in the log-odds gap between the correct option and the strongest alternative; (2) Summary sufficiency: at answer time we re-ask using only the last committed summary and reward success; (3) Correct-and-early stop: answering correctly within a small turn budget is rewarded. Across multiple VQA benchmarks, \revise improves accuracy while reducing frames, rounds, and prompt tokens, demonstrating practical sparse video reasoning.

Real-Time Image Demoireing on Mobile Devices

Moire patterns appear frequently when taking photos of digital screens, drastically degrading the image quality. Despite the advance of CNNs in image demoireing, existing networks are with heavy design, causing redundant computation burden for mobile devices. In this paper, we launch the first study on accelerating demoireing networks and propose a dynamic demoireing acceleration method (DDA) towards a real-time deployment on mobile devices. Our stimulus stems from a simple-yet-universal fact that moire patterns often unbalancedly distribute across an image. Consequently, excessive computation is wasted upon non-moire areas. Therefore, we reallocate computation costs in proportion to the complexity of image patches. In order to achieve this aim, we measure the complexity of an image patch by designing a novel moire prior that considers both colorfulness and frequency information of moire patterns. Then, we restore image patches with higher-complexity using larger networks and the ones with lower-complexity are assigned with smaller networks to relieve the computation burden. At last, we train all networks in a parameter-shared supernet paradigm to avoid additional parameter burden. Extensive experiments on several benchmarks demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed DDA. In addition, the acceleration evaluated on the VIVO X80 Pro smartphone equipped with a chip of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 shows that our method can drastically reduce the inference time, leading to a real-time image demoireing on mobile devices. COLosSAL: A Benchmark for Cold-start Active Learning for 3D Medical Image Segmentation

Medical image segmentation is a critical task in medical image analysis. In recent years, deep learning based approaches have shown exceptional performance when trained on a fully-annotated dataset. However, data annotation is often a significant bottleneck, especially for 3D medical images. Active learning (AL) is a promising solution for efficient annotation but requires an initial set of labeled samples to start active selection. When the entire data pool is unlabeled, how do we select the samples to annotate as our initial set? This is also known as the cold-start AL, which permits only one chance to request annotations from experts without access to previously annotated data. Cold-start AL is highly relevant in many practical scenarios but has been under-explored, especially for 3D medical segmentation tasks requiring substantial annotation effort. In this paper, we present a benchmark named COLosSAL by evaluating six cold-start AL strategies on five 3D medical image segmentation tasks from the public Medical Segmentation Decathlon collection. We perform a thorough performance analysis and explore important open questions for cold-start AL, such as the impact of budget on different strategies. Our results show that cold-start AL is still an unsolved problem for 3D segmentation tasks but some important trends have been observed. Biomedical image analysis competitions: The state of current participation practice

The number of international benchmarking competitions is steadily increasing in various fields of machine learning (ML) research and practice. So far, however, little is known about the common practice as well as bottlenecks faced by the community in tackling the research questions posed. To shed light on the status quo of algorithm development in the specific field of biomedical imaging analysis, we designed an international survey that was issued to all participants of challenges conducted in conjunction with the IEEE ISBI 2021 and MICCAI 2021 conferences (80 competitions in total). The survey covered participants' expertise and working environments, their chosen strategies, as well as algorithm characteristics. A median of 72% challenge participants took part in the survey. According to our results, knowledge exchange was the primary incentive (70%) for participation, while the reception of prize money played only a minor role (16%). While a median of 80 working hours was spent on method development, a large portion of participants stated that they did not have enough time for method development (32%). 25% perceived the infrastructure to be a bottleneck. Overall, 94% of all solutions were deep learning-based. Of these, 84% were based on standard architectures. 43% of the respondents reported that the data samples (e.g., images) were too large to be processed at once. This was most commonly addressed by patch-based training (69%), downsampling (37%), and solving 3D analysis tasks as a series of 2D tasks. K-fold cross-validation on the training set was performed by only 37% of the participants and only 50% of the participants performed ensembling based on multiple identical models (61%) or heterogeneous models (39%). 48% of the respondents applied postprocessing steps.

Evaluation of Synthetically Generated CT for use in Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Procedures

Transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) is a therapeutic ultrasound method that focuses sound through the skull to a small region noninvasively and often under MRI guidance. CT imaging is used to estimate the acoustic properties that vary between individual skulls to enable effective focusing during tFUS procedures, exposing patients to potentially harmful radiation. A method to estimate acoustic parameters in the skull without the need for CT would be desirable. Here, we synthesized CT images from routinely acquired T1-weighted MRI by using a 3D patch-based conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) and evaluated the performance of synthesized CT (sCT) images for treatment planning with tFUS. We compared the performance of sCT to real CT (rCT) images for tFUS planning using Kranion and simulations using the acoustic toolbox, k-Wave. Simulations were performed for 3 tFUS scenarios: 1) no aberration correction, 2) correction with phases calculated from Kranion, and 3) phase shifts calculated from time-reversal. From Kranion, skull density ratio, skull thickness, and number of active elements between rCT and sCT had Pearson's Correlation Coefficients of 0.94, 0.92, and 0.98, respectively. Among 20 targets, differences in simulated peak pressure between rCT and sCT were largest without phase correction (12.4$\pm$8.1%) and smallest with Kranion phases (7.3$\pm$6.0%). The distance between peak focal locations between rCT and sCT was less than 1.3 mm for all simulation cases. Real and synthetically generated skulls had comparable image similarity, skull measurements, and acoustic simulation metrics. Our work demonstrates the feasibility of replacing real CTs with the MR-synthesized CT for tFUS planning. Aligning Offline Metrics and Human Judgments of Value for Code Generation Models

Large language models have demonstrated great potential to assist programmers in generating code. For such human-AI pair programming scenarios, we empirically demonstrate that while generated code is most often evaluated in terms of their functional correctness (i.e., whether generations pass available unit tests), correctness does not fully capture (e.g., may underestimate) the productivity gains these models may provide. Through a user study with N = 49 experienced programmers, we show that while correctness captures high-value generations, programmers still rate code that fails unit tests as valuable if it reduces the overall effort needed to complete a coding task. Finally, we propose a hybrid metric that combines functional correctness and syntactic similarity and show that it achieves a 14% stronger correlation with value and can therefore better represent real-world gains when evaluating and comparing models.

ModDrop++: A Dynamic Filter Network with Intra-subject Co-training for Multiple Sclerosis Lesion Segmentation with Missing Modalities

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neuroinflammatory disease and multi-modality MRIs are routinely used to monitor MS lesions. Many automatic MS lesion segmentation models have been developed and have reached human-level performance. However, most established methods assume the MRI modalities used during training are also available during testing, which is not guaranteed in clinical practice. Previously, a training strategy termed Modality Dropout (ModDrop) has been applied to MS lesion segmentation to achieve the state-of-the-art performance with missing modality. In this paper, we present a novel method dubbed ModDrop++ to train a unified network adaptive to an arbitrary number of input MRI sequences. ModDrop++ upgrades the main idea of ModDrop in two key ways. First, we devise a plug-and-play dynamic head and adopt a filter scaling strategy to improve the expressiveness of the network. Second, we design a co-training strategy to leverage the intra-subject relation between full modality and missing modality. Specifically, the intra-subject co-training strategy aims to guide the dynamic head to generate similar feature representations between the full- and missing-modality data from the same subject. Promise:Prompt-driven 3D Medical Image Segmentation Using Pretrained Image Foundation Models

To address prevalent issues in medical imaging, such as data acquisition challenges and label availability, transfer learning from natural to medical image domains serves as a viable strategy to produce reliable segmentation results. However, several existing barriers between domains need to be broken down, including addressing contrast discrepancies, managing anatomical variability, and adapting 2D pretrained models for 3D segmentation tasks. In this paper, we propose ProMISe,a prompt-driven 3D medical image segmentation model using only a single point prompt to leverage knowledge from a pretrained 2D image foundation model. In particular, we use the pretrained vision transformer from the Segment Anything Model (SAM) and integrate lightweight adapters to extract depth-related (3D) spatial context without updating the pretrained weights. For robust results, a hybrid network with complementary encoders is designed, and a boundary-aware loss is proposed to achieve precise boundaries. We evaluate our model on two public datasets for colon and pancreas tumor segmentations, respectively. Compared to the state-of-the-art segmentation methods with and without prompt engineering, our proposed method achieves superior performance. DNABERT-2: Efficient Foundation Model and Benchmark For Multi-Species Genome

Decoding the linguistic intricacies of the genome is a crucial problem in biology, and pre-trained foundational models such as DNABERT and Nucleotide Transformer have made significant strides in this area. Existing works have largely hinged on k-mer, fixed-length permutations of A, T, C, and G, as the token of the genome language due to its simplicity. However, we argue that the computation and sample inefficiencies introduced by k-mer tokenization are primary obstacles in developing large genome foundational models. We provide conceptual and empirical insights into genome tokenization, building on which we propose to replace k-mer tokenization with Byte Pair Encoding (BPE), a statistics-based data compression algorithm that constructs tokens by iteratively merging the most frequent co-occurring genome segment in the corpus. We demonstrate that BPE not only overcomes the limitations of k-mer tokenization but also benefits from the computational efficiency of non-overlapping tokenization. Based on these insights, we introduce DNABERT-2, a refined genome foundation model that adapts an efficient tokenizer and employs multiple strategies to overcome input length constraints, reduce time and memory expenditure, and enhance model capability. Furthermore, we identify the absence of a comprehensive and standardized benchmark for genome understanding as another significant impediment to fair comparative analysis. In response, we propose the Genome Understanding Evaluation (GUE), a comprehensive multi-species genome classification dataset that amalgamates $36$ distinct datasets across $9$ tasks, with input lengths ranging from $70$ to $10000$. Through comprehensive experiments on the GUE benchmark, we demonstrate that DNABERT-2 achieves comparable performance to the state-of-the-art model with $21 \times$ fewer parameters and approximately $92 \times$ less GPU time in pre-training.

VLATTACK: Multimodal Adversarial Attacks on Vision-Language Tasks via Pre-trained Models

Vision-Language (VL) pre-trained models have shown their superiority on many multimodal tasks. However, the adversarial robustness of such models has not been fully explored. Existing approaches mainly focus on exploring the adversarial robustness under the white-box setting, which is unrealistic. In this paper, we aim to investigate a new yet practical task to craft image and text perturbations using pre-trained VL models to attack black-box fine-tuned models on different downstream tasks. Towards this end, we propose VLATTACK to generate adversarial samples by fusing perturbations of images and texts from both single-modal and multimodal levels. At the single-modal level, we propose a new block-wise similarity attack (BSA) strategy to learn image perturbations for disrupting universal representations. Besides, we adopt an existing text attack strategy to generate text perturbations independent of the image-modal attack. At the multimodal level, we design a novel iterative cross-search attack (ICSA) method to update adversarial image-text pairs periodically, starting with the outputs from the single-modal level. We conduct extensive experiments to attack five widely-used VL pre-trained models for six tasks. Experimental results show that VLATTACK achieves the highest attack success rates on all tasks compared with state-of-the-art baselines, which reveals a blind spot in the deployment of pre-trained VL models. Boosting Decision-Based Black-Box Adversarial Attack with Gradient Priors

Decision-based methods have shown to be effective in black-box adversarial attacks, as they can obtain satisfactory performance and only require to access the final model prediction. Gradient estimation is a critical step in black-box adversarial attacks, as it will directly affect the query efficiency. Recent works have attempted to utilize gradient priors to facilitate score-based methods to obtain better results. However, these gradient priors still suffer from the edge gradient discrepancy issue and the successive iteration gradient direction issue, thus are difficult to simply extend to decision-based methods. In this paper, we propose a novel Decision-based Black-box Attack framework with Gradient Priors (DBA-GP), which seamlessly integrates the data-dependent gradient prior and time-dependent prior into the gradient estimation procedure. First, by leveraging the joint bilateral filter to deal with each random perturbation, DBA-GP can guarantee that the generated perturbations in edge locations are hardly smoothed, i.e., alleviating the edge gradient discrepancy, thus remaining the characteristics of the original image as much as possible. Second, by utilizing a new gradient updating strategy to automatically adjust the successive iteration gradient direction, DBA-GP can accelerate the convergence speed, thus improving the query efficiency. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that the proposed method outperforms other strong baselines significantly.

Learning Site-specific Styles for Multi-institutional Unsupervised Cross-modality Domain Adaptation

Unsupervised cross-modality domain adaptation is a challenging task in medical image analysis, and it becomes more challenging when source and target domain data are collected from multiple institutions. In this paper, we present our solution to tackle the multi-institutional unsupervised domain adaptation for the crossMoDA 2023 challenge. First, we perform unpaired image translation to translate the source domain images to the target domain, where we design a dynamic network to generate synthetic target domain images with controllable, site-specific styles. Afterwards, we train a segmentation model using the synthetic images and further reduce the domain gap by self-training. Assessing Test-time Variability for Interactive 3D Medical Image Segmentation with Diverse Point Prompts

Interactive segmentation model leverages prompts from users to produce robust segmentation. This advancement is facilitated by prompt engineering, where interactive prompts serve as strong priors during test-time. However, this is an inherently subjective and hard-to-reproduce process. The variability in user expertise and inherently ambiguous boundaries in medical images can lead to inconsistent prompt selections, potentially affecting segmentation accuracy. This issue has not yet been extensively explored for medical imaging. In this paper, we assess the test-time variability for interactive medical image segmentation with diverse point prompts. For a given target region, the point is classified into three sub-regions: boundary, margin, and center. Our goal is to identify a straightforward and efficient approach for optimal prompt selection during test-time based on three considerations: (1) benefits of additional prompts, (2) effects of prompt placement, and (3) strategies for optimal prompt selection. We conduct extensive experiments on the public Medical Segmentation Decathlon dataset for challenging colon tumor segmentation task. GPTScan: Detecting Logic Vulnerabilities in Smart Contracts by Combining GPT with Program Analysis

Smart contracts are prone to various vulnerabilities, leading to substantial financial losses over time. Current analysis tools mainly target vulnerabilities with fixed control or data-flow patterns, such as re-entrancy and integer overflow. However, a recent study on Web3 security bugs revealed that about 80% of these bugs cannot be audited by existing tools due to the lack of domain-specific property description and checking. Given recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs), it is worth exploring how Generative Pre-training Transformer (GPT) could aid in detecting logicc vulnerabilities. In this paper, we propose GPTScan, the first tool combining GPT with static analysis for smart contract logic vulnerability detection. Instead of relying solely on GPT to identify vulnerabilities, which can lead to high false positives and is limited by GPT's pre-trained knowledge, we utilize GPT as a versatile code understanding tool. By breaking down each logic vulnerability type into scenarios and properties, GPTScan matches candidate vulnerabilities with GPT. To enhance accuracy, GPTScan further instructs GPT to intelligently recognize key variables and statements, which are then validated by static confirmation. Evaluation on diverse datasets with around 400 contract projects and 3K Solidity files shows that GPTScan achieves high precision (over 90%) for token contracts and acceptable precision (57.14%) for large projects like Web3Bugs. It effectively detects ground-truth logic vulnerabilities with a recall of over 70%, including 9 new vulnerabilities missed by human auditors. GPTScan is fast and cost-effective, taking an average of 14.39 seconds and 0.01 USD to scan per thousand lines of Solidity code. Moreover, static confirmation helps GPTScan reduce two-thirds of false positives.

CATS v2: Hybrid encoders for robust medical segmentation

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have exhibited strong performance in medical image segmentation tasks by capturing high-level (local) information, such as edges and textures. However, due to the limited field of view of convolution kernel, it is hard for CNNs to fully represent global information. Recently, transformers have shown good performance for medical image segmentation due to their ability to better model long-range dependencies. Nevertheless, transformers struggle to capture high-level spatial features as effectively as CNNs. A good segmentation model should learn a better representation from local and global features to be both precise and semantically accurate. In our previous work, we proposed CATS, which is a U-shaped segmentation network augmented with transformer encoder. In this work, we further extend this model and propose CATS v2 with hybrid encoders. Specifically, hybrid encoders consist of a CNN-based encoder path paralleled to a transformer path with a shifted window, which better leverage both local and global information to produce robust 3D medical image segmentation. We fuse the information from the convolutional encoder and the transformer at the skip connections of different resolutions to form the final segmentation. The proposed method is evaluated on three public challenge datasets: Beyond the Cranial Vault (BTCV), Cross-Modality Domain Adaptation (CrossMoDA) and task 5 of Medical Segmentation Decathlon (MSD-5), to segment abdominal organs, vestibular schwannoma (VS) and prostate, respectively. Compared with the state-of-the-art methods, our approach demonstrates superior performance in terms of higher Dice scores. Our code is publicly available at https://github.com/MedICL-VU/CATS.

Security of OpenClaw Agents: Fundamentals, Attacks, and Countermeasures

The rapid evolution of large language model (LLM)-driven autonomous agents has given rise to OpenClaw, a new class of open-source agent frameworks that operate as continuously running, skill-augmented systems with persistent memory, multi-channel interaction, and high degrees of autonomy. Such capabilities enable OpenClaw agents to autonomously execute complex, multi-step tasks and interact seamlessly with external applications, but simultaneously introduce a substantially enlarged attack surface. In particular, the combination of high-privilege operations and persistent memory exposes OpenClaw agents to various emerging threats, including skill poisoning, cognitive manipulation, multi-agent cascading failures, and supply-chain vulnerabilities. In this survey, we present a comprehensive study of the security landscape of OpenClaw agents. We first examine the general architecture and key characteristics that distinguish OpenClaw agents from traditional AI agent systems. We categorize existing security and privacy threats into a layered framework and analyze how vulnerabilities arise during agent reasoning, action execution, and external interaction. Representative defense mechanisms are also reviewed to draw the current defense landscape. Finally, several unresolved issues related to the reliability and trustworthiness of OpenClaw ecosystems are discussed.

Adaptive Contrastive Learning with Dynamic Correlation for Multi-Phase Organ Segmentation

Recent studies have demonstrated the superior performance of introducing ``scan-wise" contrast labels into contrastive learning for multi-organ segmentation on multi-phase computed tomography (CT). However, such scan-wise labels are limited: (1) a coarse classification, which could not capture the fine-grained ``organ-wise" contrast variations across all organs; (2) the label (i.e., contrast phase) is typically manually provided, which is error-prone and may introduce manual biases of defining phases. In this paper, we propose a novel data-driven contrastive loss function that adapts the similar/dissimilar contrast relationship between samples in each minibatch at organ-level. Specifically, as variable levels of contrast exist between organs, we hypothesis that the contrast differences in the organ-level can bring additional context for defining representations in the latent space. An organ-wise contrast correlation matrix is computed with mean organ intensities under one-hot attention maps. The goal of adapting the organ-driven correlation matrix is to model variable levels of feature separability at different phases. We evaluate our proposed approach on multi-organ segmentation with both non-contrast CT (NCCT) datasets and the MICCAI 2015 BTCV Challenge contrast-enhance CT (CECT) datasets. Compared to the state-of-the-art approaches, our proposed contrastive loss yields a substantial and significant improvement of 1.41% (from 0.923 to 0.936, p-value$<$0.01) and 2.02% (from 0.891 to 0.910, p-value$<$0.01) on mean Dice scores across all organs with respect to NCCT and CECT cohorts. We further assess the trained model performance with the MICCAI 2021 FLARE Challenge CECT datasets and achieve a substantial improvement of mean Dice score from 0.927 to 0.934 (p-value$<$0.01). Controllable Lung Nodule Synthesis via Histogram-Regularized Latent Diffusion Models

While automated diagnosis systems have achieved remarkable success in computed tomography (CT)-based lung cancer screening, their development remains limited by the scarcity of diverse, annotated pulmonary nodule datasets. Diffusion-based generative models offer a promising strategy for data synthesis; however, many existing conditional approaches primarily optimize spatial reconstruction losses, which encourage voxel-wise similarity but may inadequately constrain lesion-level intensity distributions. As a result, these methods may produce over-smoothed texture profiles and underrepresent the distinct attenuation characteristics of different nodule subtypes, including solid, part-solid, and ground-glass nodules. To address this challenge, we propose a controllable latent diffusion model that synthesizes pulmonary nodules within full 3D CT volumes while accurately modeling nodule-specific intensity distributions. Specifically, rather than relying solely on spatial losses, we introduce a histogram-based regularization term that constrains voxel intensity distributions during the generative process. The model combines subtype, spatial mask, and Hounsfield unit (HU) histogram conditioning with the differentiable feature-space histogram regularization term to better align lesion-level intensity distributions, improving the visual plausibility and subtype consistency of synthesized nodules. Extensive experiments on lung CT data demonstrate that our framework achieves strong visual realism, validated through both quantitative metrics and a visual Turing test. Furthermore, when used for data augmentation, the generated nodules improve performance in downstream clinical tasks, particularly for underrepresented nodule subtypes, and show a potential benefit for subtype-informed malignancy classification.

Boosting Few-Shot Text Classification via Distribution Estimation

Distribution estimation has been demonstrated as one of the most effective approaches in dealing with few-shot image classification, as the low-level patterns and underlying representations can be easily transferred across different tasks in computer vision domain. However, directly applying this approach to few-shot text classification is challenging, since leveraging the statistics of known classes with sufficient samples to calibrate the distributions of novel classes may cause negative effects due to serious category difference in text domain. To alleviate this issue, we propose two simple yet effective strategies to estimate the distributions of the novel classes by utilizing unlabeled query samples, thus avoiding the potential negative transfer issue. Specifically, we first assume a class or sample follows the Gaussian distribution, and use the original support set and the nearest few query samples to estimate the corresponding mean and covariance. Then, we augment the labeled samples by sampling from the estimated distribution, which can provide sufficient supervision for training the classification model. Extensive experiments on eight few-shot text classification datasets show that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art baselines significantly.

Do Fine-Tuned LLMs Understand Vulnerabilities? An Investigation into the Semantic Trap

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown promising performance in software vulnerability detection, particularly after domain-specific Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT). However, it remains unclear whether these models genuinely internalize vulnerability root causes or merely exploit surface-level functional patterns. While prior work documented related failures on pre-trained or zero-shot models, the SFT process itself, and how explicit reasoning supervision modulates it, remains under-explored. We study fine-tuned decoder-only LLMs under vanilla SFT and SFT with reasoning supervision, identifying a failure mode we term the Semantic Trap, characterized by three symptoms: pairing-sensitive performance, gap-dictated decisions, and fragility to semantic-preserving changes. To probe this, we propose TrapEval, an evaluation framework comprising two real-world datasets, V2P (vulnerable paired with patched code) and V2N (vulnerable paired with unrelated normal code), alongside semantic perturbations, CodeBLEU-based gap analysis, and an LLM-assisted reasoning failure taxonomy. Evaluating five representative LLMs fine-tuned with and without explicit reasoning (Chain-of-Thought), our results show vanilla SFT yields deceptively high scores on unpaired data (V2N) while failing all three symptoms. Models suffer high false-positive rates on V2P, degrade under perturbations, and exhibit a systematic dependency on the textual gap between vulnerable and patched code. Finetuning with explicit reasoning reduces these symptoms but costs recall; its lack of measurable gap-dependency partly reflects a floor effect rather than escaping the trap. Furthermore, our taxonomy reveals these models still misinterpret control flow and hallucinate API behavior, indicating current fine-tuning mitigates but does not eliminate reliance on surface features.

Hunyuan-TurboS: Advancing Large Language Models through Mamba-Transformer Synergy and Adaptive Chain-of-Thought

As Large Language Models (LLMs) rapidly advance, we introduce Hunyuan-TurboS, a novel large hybrid Transformer-Mamba Mixture of Experts (MoE) model. It synergistically combines Mamba's long-sequence processing efficiency with Transformer's superior contextual understanding. Hunyuan-TurboS features an adaptive long-short chain-of-thought (CoT) mechanism, dynamically switching between rapid responses for simple queries and deep "thinking" modes for complex problems, optimizing computational resources. Architecturally, this 56B activated (560B total) parameter model employs 128 layers (Mamba2, Attention, FFN) with an innovative AMF/MF block pattern. Faster Mamba2 ensures linear complexity, Grouped-Query Attention minimizes KV cache, and FFNs use an MoE structure. Pre-trained on 16T high-quality tokens, it supports a 256K context length and is the first industry-deployed large-scale Mamba model. Our comprehensive post-training strategy enhances capabilities via Supervised Fine-Tuning (3M instructions), a novel Adaptive Long-short CoT Fusion method, Multi-round Deliberation Learning for iterative improvement, and a two-stage Large-scale Reinforcement Learning process targeting STEM and general instruction-following. Evaluations show strong performance: overall top 7 rank on LMSYS Chatbot Arena with a score of 1356, outperforming leading models like Gemini-2.0-Flash-001 (1352) and o4-mini-2025-04-16 (1345). TurboS also achieves an average of 77.9% across 23 automated benchmarks. Hunyuan-TurboS balances high performance and efficiency, offering substantial capabilities at lower inference costs than many reasoning models, establishing a new paradigm for efficient large-scale pre-trained models.

IntraStyler: Exemplar-based Style Synthesis for Cross-modality Domain Adaptation

Image-level domain alignment is the de facto approach for unsupervised domain adaptation, where unpaired image translation is used to minimize the domain gap. Prior studies mainly focus on the domain shift between the source and target domains, whereas the intra-domain variability remains under-explored. To address the latter, an effective strategy is to diversify the styles of the synthetic target domain data during image translation. However, previous methods typically require intra-domain variations to be pre-specified for style synthesis, which may be impractical. In this paper, we propose an exemplar-based style synthesis method named IntraStyler, which can capture diverse intra-domain styles without any prior knowledge. Specifically, IntraStyler uses an exemplar image to guide the style synthesis such that the output style matches the exemplar style. To extract the style-only features, we introduce a style encoder to learn styles discriminatively based on contrastive learning. We evaluate the proposed method on the largest public dataset for cross-modality domain adaptation, CrossMoDA 2023. Our experiments show the efficacy of our method in controllable style synthesis and the benefits of diverse synthetic data for downstream segmentation. Survival Prediction of Brain Cancer with Incomplete Radiology, Pathology, Genomics, and Demographic Data

Integrating cross-department multi-modal data (e.g., radiological, pathological, genomic, and clinical data) is ubiquitous in brain cancer diagnosis and survival prediction. To date, such an integration is typically conducted by human physicians (and panels of experts), which can be subjective and semi-quantitative. Recent advances in multi-modal deep learning, however, have opened a door to leverage such a process to a more objective and quantitative manner. Unfortunately, the prior arts of using four modalities on brain cancer survival prediction are limited by a "complete modalities" setting (i.e., with all modalities available). Thus, there are still open questions on how to effectively predict brain cancer survival from the incomplete radiological, pathological, genomic, and demographic data (e.g., one or more modalities might not be collected for a patient). For instance, should we use both complete and incomplete data, and more importantly, how to use those data? To answer the preceding questions, we generalize the multi-modal learning on cross-department multi-modal data to a missing data setting. Our contribution is three-fold: 1) We introduce optimal multi-modal learning with missing data (MMD) pipeline with optimized hardware consumption and computational efficiency; 2) We extend multi-modal learning on radiological, pathological, genomic, and demographic data into missing data scenarios; 3) a large-scale public dataset (with 962 patients) is collected to systematically evaluate glioma tumor survival prediction using four modalities. The proposed method improved the C-index of survival prediction from 0.7624 to 0.8053.

Enhancing Data Diversity for Self-training Based Unsupervised Cross-modality Vestibular Schwannoma and Cochlea Segmentation

Automatic segmentation of vestibular schwannoma (VS) and cochlea from magnetic resonance imaging can facilitate VS treatment planning. Unsupervised segmentation methods have shown promising results without requiring the time-consuming and laborious manual labeling process. In this paper, we present an approach for VS and cochlea segmentation in an unsupervised domain adaptation setting. Specifically, we first develop a cross-site cross-modality unpaired image translation strategy to enrich the diversity of the synthesized data. Then, we devise a rule-based offline augmentation technique to further minimize the domain gap. Lastly, we adopt a self-configuring segmentation framework empowered by self-training to obtain the final results. On the CrossMoDA 2022 validation leaderboard, our method has achieved competitive VS and cochlea segmentation performance with mean Dice scores of 0.8178 $\pm$ 0.0803 and 0.8433 $\pm$ 0.0293, respectively.

Beyond Reverse KL: Generalizing Direct Preference Optimization with Diverse Divergence Constraints

The increasing capabilities of large language models (LLMs) raise opportunities for artificial general intelligence but concurrently amplify safety concerns, such as potential misuse of AI systems, necessitating effective AI alignment. Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) has emerged as a promising pathway towards AI alignment but brings forth challenges due to its complexity and dependence on a separate reward model. Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) has been proposed as an alternative, and it remains equivalent to RLHF under the reverse KL regularization constraint. This paper presents $f$-DPO, a generalized approach to DPO by incorporating diverse divergence constraints. We show that under certain $f$-divergences, including Jensen-Shannon divergence, forward KL divergences and $α$-divergences, the complex relationship between the reward and optimal policy can also be simplified by addressing the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions. This eliminates the need for estimating the normalizing constant in the Bradley-Terry model and enables a tractable mapping between the reward function and the optimal policy. Our approach optimizes LLMs to align with human preferences in a more efficient and supervised manner under a broad set of divergence constraints. Empirically, adopting these divergences ensures a balance between alignment performance and generation diversity. Importantly, $f$-DPO outperforms PPO-based methods in divergence efficiency, and divergence constraints directly influence expected calibration error (ECE).

PatchFinder: A Two-Phase Approach to Security Patch Tracing for Disclosed Vulnerabilities in Open-Source Software

Open-source software (OSS) vulnerabilities are increasingly prevalent, emphasizing the importance of security patches. However, in widely used security platforms like NVD, a substantial number of CVE records still lack trace links to patches. Although rank-based approaches have been proposed for security patch tracing, they heavily rely on handcrafted features in a single-step framework, which limits their effectiveness. In this paper, we propose PatchFinder, a two-phase framework with end-to-end correlation learning for better-tracing security patches. In the **initial retrieval** phase, we employ a hybrid patch retriever to account for both lexical and semantic matching based on the code changes and the description of a CVE, to narrow down the search space by extracting those commits as candidates that are similar to the CVE descriptions. Afterwards, in the **re-ranking** phase, we design an end-to-end architecture under the supervised fine-tuning paradigm for learning the semantic correlations between CVE descriptions and commits. In this way, we can automatically rank the candidates based on their correlation scores while maintaining low computation overhead. We evaluated our system against 4,789 CVEs from 532 OSS projects. The results are highly promising: PatchFinder achieves a Recall@10 of 80.63% and a Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR) of 0.7951. Moreover, the Manual Effort@10 required is curtailed to 2.77, marking a 1.94 times improvement over current leading methods. When applying PatchFinder in practice, we initially identified 533 patch commits and submitted them to the official, 482 of which have been confirmed by CVE Numbering Authorities.

COSST: Multi-organ Segmentation with Partially Labeled Datasets Using Comprehensive Supervisions and Self-training

Deep learning models have demonstrated remarkable success in multi-organ segmentation but typically require large-scale datasets with all organs of interest annotated. However, medical image datasets are often low in sample size and only partially labeled, i.e., only a subset of organs are annotated. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate how to learn a unified model on the available partially labeled datasets to leverage their synergistic potential. In this paper, we systematically investigate the partial-label segmentation problem with theoretical and empirical analyses on the prior techniques. We revisit the problem from a perspective of partial label supervision signals and identify two signals derived from ground truth and one from pseudo labels. We propose a novel two-stage framework termed COSST, which effectively and efficiently integrates comprehensive supervision signals with self-training. Concretely, we first train an initial unified model using two ground truth-based signals and then iteratively incorporate the pseudo label signal to the initial model using self-training. To mitigate performance degradation caused by unreliable pseudo labels, we assess the reliability of pseudo labels via outlier detection in latent space and exclude the most unreliable pseudo labels from each self-training iteration. Extensive experiments are conducted on one public and three private partial-label segmentation tasks over 12 CT datasets. Experimental results show that our proposed COSST achieves significant improvement over the baseline method, i.e., individual networks trained on each partially labeled dataset. Compared to the state-of-the-art partial-label segmentation methods, COSST demonstrates consistent superior performance on various segmentation tasks and with different training data sizes.

Deep Learning-based Unsupervised Domain Adaptation via a Unified Model for Prostate Lesion Detection Using Multisite Bi-parametric MRI Datasets

Our hypothesis is that UDA using diffusion-weighted images, generated with a unified model, offers a promising and reliable strategy for enhancing the performance of supervised learning models in multi-site prostate lesion detection, especially when various b-values are present. This retrospective study included data from 5,150 patients (14,191 samples) collected across nine different imaging centers. A novel UDA method using a unified generative model was developed for multi-site PCa detection. This method translates diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) acquisitions, including apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and individual DW images acquired using various b-values, to align with the style of images acquired using b-values recommended by Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) guidelines. The generated ADC and DW images replace the original images for PCa detection. An independent set of 1,692 test cases (2,393 samples) was used for evaluation. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used as the primary metric, and statistical analysis was performed via bootstrapping. For all test cases, the AUC values for baseline SL and UDA methods were 0.73 and 0.79 (p<.001), respectively, for PI-RADS>=3, and 0.77 and 0.80 (p<.001) for PI-RADS>=4 PCa lesions. In the 361 test cases under the most unfavorable image acquisition setting, the AUC values for baseline SL and UDA were 0.49 and 0.76 (p<.001) for PI-RADS>=3, and 0.50 and 0.77 (p<.001) for PI-RADS>=4 PCa lesions. The results indicate the proposed UDA with generated images improved the performance of SL methods in multi-site PCa lesion detection across datasets with various b values, especially for images acquired with significant deviations from the PI-RADS recommended DWI protocol (e.g. with an extremely high b-value).

Cats: Complementary CNN and Transformer Encoders for Segmentation

Recently, deep learning methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance in many medical image segmentation tasks. Many of these are based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs). For such methods, the encoder is the key part for global and local information extraction from input images; the extracted features are then passed to the decoder for predicting the segmentations. In contrast, several recent works show a superior performance with the use of transformers, which can better model long-range spatial dependencies and capture low-level details. However, transformer as sole encoder underperforms for some tasks where it cannot efficiently replace the convolution based encoder. In this paper, we propose a model with double encoders for 3D biomedical image segmentation. Our model is a U-shaped CNN augmented with an independent transformer encoder. We fuse the information from the convolutional encoder and the transformer, and pass it to the decoder to obtain the results. We evaluate our methods on three public datasets from three different challenges: BTCV, MoDA and Decathlon. Compared to the state-of-the-art models with and without transformers on each task, our proposed method obtains higher Dice scores across the board.

Label-enhanced Prototypical Network with Contrastive Learning for Multi-label Few-shot Aspect Category Detection

Multi-label aspect category detection allows a given review sentence to contain multiple aspect categories, which is shown to be more practical in sentiment analysis and attracting increasing attention. As annotating large amounts of data is time-consuming and labor-intensive, data scarcity occurs frequently in real-world scenarios, which motivates multi-label few-shot aspect category detection. However, research on this problem is still in infancy and few methods are available. In this paper, we propose a novel label-enhanced prototypical network (LPN) for multi-label few-shot aspect category detection. The highlights of LPN can be summarized as follows. First, it leverages label description as auxiliary knowledge to learn more discriminative prototypes, which can retain aspect-relevant information while eliminating the harmful effect caused by irrelevant aspects. Second, it integrates with contrastive learning, which encourages that the sentences with the same aspect label are pulled together in embedding space while simultaneously pushing apart the sentences with different aspect labels. In addition, it introduces an adaptive multi-label inference module to predict the aspect count in the sentence, which is simple yet effective. Extensive experimental results on three datasets demonstrate that our proposed model LPN can consistently achieve state-of-the-art performance.

DeepFWI: Identifying Bug-Sensitive Warnings with Multi-Modal Code-Warning Semantics

Static analysis tools have evolved over time to assist in detecting bugs. However, the excessive false warnings can impede developers' productivity and confidence in the tools. Previous research efforts have explored learning-based approaches to identify bug warnings. Nevertheless, their coarse granularity, focusing on either long-term warnings or function-level alerts, is insensitive to individual bugs. Also, they rely on manually crafted features or solely on source code semantics, which is inadequate for effective learning. In this paper, we propose DeepFWI, a learning-based approach that identifies bug-sensitive warnings at a fine-grained granularity. Specifically, we design a novel LSTM-based model that captures multi-modal semantics of source code and warnings from automated static analysis tools (ASATs) and highlights their correlations with cross-attention. To tackle the data scarcity of training and evaluation, we collected a large-scale dataset of 280,273 warnings. We conducted extensive experiments on the dataset to evaluate DeepFWI. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, with an F1-score 67.06% for confirming true warnings in a finer-grained manner, significantly outperforming all baselines. Additionally, to validate the practicality of DeepFWI from the perspective of developers, we applied DeepFWI to four popular open-source projects. Our approach filtered out the vast majority of warnings, while still successfully surfacing 25 true bug-related warnings that were confirmed through manual analysis.

False Negative/Positive Control for SAM on Noisy Medical Images

The Segment Anything Model (SAM) is a recently developed all-range foundation model for image segmentation. It can use sparse manual prompts such as bounding boxes to generate pixel-level segmentation in natural images but struggles in medical images such as low-contrast, noisy ultrasound images. We propose a refined test-phase prompt augmentation technique designed to improve SAM's performance in medical image segmentation. The method couples multi-box prompt augmentation and an aleatoric uncertainty-based false-negative (FN) and false-positive (FP) correction (FNPC) strategy. We evaluate the method on two ultrasound datasets and show improvement in SAM's performance and robustness to inaccurate prompts, without the necessity for further training or tuning. Moreover, we present the Single-Slice-to-Volume (SS2V) method, enabling 3D pixel-level segmentation using only the bounding box annotation from a single 2D slice. Our results allow efficient use of SAM in even noisy, low-contrast medical images. The source code will be released soon.

Large-Scale Multi-Document Summarization with Information Extraction and Compression

We develop an abstractive summarization framework independent of labeled data for multiple heterogeneous documents. Unlike existing multi-document summarization methods, our framework processes documents telling different stories instead of documents on the same topic. We also enhance an existing sentence fusion method with a uni-directional language model to prioritize fused sentences with higher sentence probability with the goal of increasing readability. Lastly, we construct a total of twelve dataset variations based on CNN/Daily Mail and the NewsRoom datasets, where each document group contains a large and diverse collection of documents to evaluate the performance of our model in comparison with other baseline systems. Our experiments demonstrate that our framework outperforms current state-of-the-art methods in this more generic setting.

HY-Motion 1.0: Scaling Flow Matching Models for Text-To-Motion Generation

We present HY-Motion 1.0, a series of state-of-the-art, large-scale, motion generation models capable of generating 3D human motions from textual descriptions. HY-Motion 1.0 represents the first successful attempt to scale up Diffusion Transformer (DiT)-based flow matching models to the billion-parameter scale within the motion generation domain, delivering instruction-following capabilities that significantly outperform current open-source benchmarks. Uniquely, we introduce a comprehensive, full-stage training paradigm -- including large-scale pretraining on over 3,000 hours of motion data, high-quality fine-tuning on 400 hours of curated data, and reinforcement learning from both human feedback and reward models -- to ensure precise alignment with the text instruction and high motion quality. This framework is supported by our meticulous data processing pipeline, which performs rigorous motion cleaning and captioning. Consequently, our model achieves the most extensive coverage, spanning over 200 motion categories across 6 major classes. We release HY-Motion 1.0 to the open-source community to foster future research and accelerate the transition of 3D human motion generation models towards commercial maturity.

A Simple Meta-learning Paradigm for Zero-shot Intent Classification with Mixture Attention Mechanism

Zero-shot intent classification is a vital and challenging task in dialogue systems, which aims to deal with numerous fast-emerging unacquainted intents without annotated training data. To obtain more satisfactory performance, the crucial points lie in two aspects: extracting better utterance features and strengthening the model generalization ability. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective meta-learning paradigm for zero-shot intent classification. To learn better semantic representations for utterances, we introduce a new mixture attention mechanism, which encodes the pertinent word occurrence patterns by leveraging the distributional signature attention and multi-layer perceptron attention simultaneously. To strengthen the transfer ability of the model from seen classes to unseen classes, we reformulate zero-shot intent classification with a meta-learning strategy, which trains the model by simulating multiple zero-shot classification tasks on seen categories, and promotes the model generalization ability with a meta-adapting procedure on mimic unseen categories. Extensive experiments on two real-world dialogue datasets in different languages show that our model outperforms other strong baselines on both standard and generalized zero-shot intent classification tasks.

On Statistical Rates and Provably Efficient Criteria of Latent Diffusion Transformers (DiTs)

We investigate the statistical and computational limits of latent Diffusion Transformers (DiTs) under the low-dimensional linear latent space assumption. Statistically, we study the universal approximation and sample complexity of the DiTs score function, as well as the distribution recovery property of the initial data. Specifically, under mild data assumptions, we derive an approximation error bound for the score network of latent DiTs, which is sub-linear in the latent space dimension. Additionally, we derive the corresponding sample complexity bound and show that the data distribution generated from the estimated score function converges toward a proximate area of the original one. Computationally, we characterize the hardness of both forward inference and backward computation of latent DiTs, assuming the Strong Exponential Time Hypothesis (SETH). For forward inference, we identify efficient criteria for all possible latent DiTs inference algorithms and showcase our theory by pushing the efficiency toward almost-linear time inference. For backward computation, we leverage the low-rank structure within the gradient computation of DiTs training for possible algorithmic speedup. Specifically, we show that such speedup achieves almost-linear time latent DiTs training by casting the DiTs gradient as a series of chained low-rank approximations with bounded error. Under the low-dimensional assumption, we show that the statistical rates and the computational efficiency are all dominated by the dimension of the subspace, suggesting that latent DiTs have the potential to bypass the challenges associated with the high dimensionality of initial data.

On Sparse Modern Hopfield Model

We introduce the sparse modern Hopfield model as a sparse extension of the modern Hopfield model. Like its dense counterpart, the sparse modern Hopfield model equips a memory-retrieval dynamics whose one-step approximation corresponds to the sparse attention mechanism. Theoretically, our key contribution is a principled derivation of a closed-form sparse Hopfield energy using the convex conjugate of the sparse entropic regularizer. Building upon this, we derive the sparse memory retrieval dynamics from the sparse energy function and show its one-step approximation is equivalent to the sparse-structured attention. Importantly, we provide a sparsity-dependent memory retrieval error bound which is provably tighter than its dense analog. The conditions for the benefits of sparsity to arise are therefore identified and discussed. In addition, we show that the sparse modern Hopfield model maintains the robust theoretical properties of its dense counterpart, including rapid fixed point convergence and exponential memory capacity. Empirically, we use both synthetic and real-world datasets to demonstrate that the sparse Hopfield model outperforms its dense counterpart in many situations.

Switch Trajectory Transformer with Distributional Value Approximation for Multi-Task Reinforcement Learning

We propose SwitchTT, a multi-task extension to Trajectory Transformer but enhanced with two striking features: (i) exploiting a sparsely activated model to reduce computation cost in multi-task offline model learning and (ii) adopting a distributional trajectory value estimator that improves policy performance, especially in sparse reward settings. These two enhancements make SwitchTT suitable for solving multi-task offline reinforcement learning problems, where model capacity is critical for absorbing the vast quantities of knowledge available in the multi-task dataset. More specifically, SwitchTT exploits switch transformer model architecture for multi-task policy learning, allowing us to improve model capacity without proportional computation cost. Also, SwitchTT approximates the distribution rather than the expectation of trajectory value, mitigating the effects of the Monte-Carlo Value estimator suffering from poor sample complexity, especially in the sparse-reward setting. We evaluate our method using the suite of ten sparse-reward tasks from the gym-mini-grid environment.We show an improvement of 10% over Trajectory Transformer across 10-task learning and obtain up to 90% increase in offline model training speed. Our results also demonstrate the advantage of the switch transformer model for absorbing expert knowledge and the importance of value distribution in evaluating the trajectory.

Secure UAV Swarms in Low-Altitude Wireless Networks: Challenges and Solutions

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarms are increasingly deployed in vast low-altitude applications, owing to their capabilities in distributed sensing, flexible communication, and autonomous coordination. Nevertheless, the open and highly dynamic operating environment of UAV swarms introduces serious security risks, including GPS spoofing, insider threats, and multi-hop intrusion. These threats are aggravated by limited on-board resources, frequently changing network topology, and the presence of intelligent adversaries. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes a cloud-edge-end collaborative defense framework for UAV swarms. Based on this framework, three complementary mechanisms are developed. First, a cooperative perception scheme is designed to resist GPS spoofing via interactive attack-defense game modeling. Second, a behavior-driven authentication method with trust evaluation is developed to mitigate insider threats. Third, a multi-agent attack forensics framework is devised to intelligently trace the propagation paths of multi-hop attacks in UAV networks. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches. Finally, several open research directions are outlined.

SSL^2: Self-Supervised Learning meets Semi-Supervised Learning: Multiple Sclerosis Segmentation in 7T-MRI from large-scale 3T-MRI

Automated segmentation of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions from MRI scans is important to quantify disease progression. In recent years, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown top performance for this task when a large amount of labeled data is available. However, the accuracy of CNNs suffers when dealing with few and/or sparsely labeled datasets. A potential solution is to leverage the information available in large public datasets in conjunction with a target dataset which only has limited labeled data. In this paper, we propose a training framework, SSL2 (self-supervised-semi-supervised), for multi-modality MS lesion segmentation with limited supervision. We adopt self-supervised learning to leverage the knowledge from large public 3T datasets to tackle the limitations of a small 7T target dataset. To leverage the information from unlabeled 7T data, we also evaluate state-of-the-art semi-supervised methods for other limited annotation settings, such as small labeled training size and sparse annotations. We use the shifted-window (Swin) transformer1 as our backbone network. The effectiveness of self-supervised and semi-supervised training strategies is evaluated in our in-house 7T MRI dataset. The results indicate that each strategy improves lesion segmentation for both limited training data size and for sparse labeling scenarios. The combined overall framework further improves the performance substantially compared to either of its components alone. Our proposed framework thus provides a promising solution for future data/label-hungry 7T MS studies.

MolMem: Memory-Augmented Agentic Reinforcement Learning for Sample-Efficient Molecular Optimization

In drug discovery, molecular optimization aims to iteratively refine a lead compound to improve molecular properties while preserving structural similarity to the original molecule. However, each oracle evaluation is expensive, making sample efficiency a key challenge for existing methods under a limited oracle budget. Trial-and-error approaches require many oracle calls, while methods that leverage external knowledge tend to reuse familiar templates and struggle on challenging objectives. A key missing piece is long-term memory that can ground decisions and provide reusable insights for future optimizations. To address this, we present MolMem (\textbf{Mol}ecular optimization with \textbf{Mem}ory), a multi-turn agentic reinforcement learning (RL) framework with a dual-memory system. Specifically, MolMem uses Static Exemplar Memory to retrieve relevant exemplars for cold-start grounding, and Evolving Skill Memory to distill successful trajectories into reusable strategies. Built on this memory-augmented formulation, we train the policy with dense step-wise rewards, turning costly rollouts into long-term knowledge that improves future optimization. Extensive experiments show that MolMem achieves 90\% success on single-property tasks (1.5$\times$ over the best baseline) and 52\% on multi-property tasks using only 500 oracle calls. Learning Multiple Coordinated Agents under Directed Acyclic Graph Constraints

This paper proposes a novel multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) method to learn multiple coordinated agents under directed acyclic graph (DAG) constraints. Unlike existing MARL approaches, our method explicitly exploits the DAG structure between agents to achieve more effective learning performance. Theoretically, we propose a novel surrogate value function based on a MARL model with synthetic rewards (MARLM-SR) and prove that it serves as a lower bound of the optimal value function. Computationally, we propose a practical training algorithm that exploits new notion of leader agent and reward generator and distributor agent to guide the decomposed follower agents to better explore the parameter space in environments with DAG constraints. Empirically, we exploit four DAG environments including a real-world scheduling for one of Intel's high volume packaging and test factory to benchmark our methods and show it outperforms the other non-DAG approaches.

Interdisciplinary Discovery of Nanomaterials Based on Convolutional Neural Networks

The material science literature contains up-to-date and comprehensive scientific knowledge of materials. However, their content is unstructured and diverse, resulting in a significant gap in providing sufficient information for material design and synthesis. To this end, we used natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision (CV) techniques based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) to discover valuable experimental-based information about nanomaterials and synthesis methods in energy-material-related publications. Our first system, TextMaster, extracts opinions from texts and classifies them into challenges and opportunities, achieving 94% and 92% accuracy, respectively. Our second system, GraphMaster, realizes data extraction of tables and figures from publications with 98.3\% classification accuracy and 4.3% data extraction mean square error. Our results show that these systems could assess the suitability of materials for a certain application by evaluation of synthesis insights and case analysis with detailed references. This work offers a fresh perspective on mining knowledge from scientific literature, providing a wide swatch to accelerate nanomaterial research through CNN.

Nautilus: From One Prompt to Plug-and-Play Robot Learning

Robot learning research is fragmented across policy families, benchmark suites, and real robots; each implementation is entangled with the others in a complex combination matrix, making it an engineering nightmare to port any single element. General-purpose coding agents may occasionally bridge specific setups, but cannot close this gap at scale because they lack the procedural priors and validation practices that characterize robotics research workflows. We propose NAUTILUS, an open-source harness that turns a single user prompt -- for example, "Evaluate policy A with benchmark B" -- into ready-to-use reproduction, evaluation, fine-tuning, and deployment workflows. NAUTILUS provides: plug-and-play agent skill sets with distilled priors from robotics research; typed contracts among policies, simulators/benchmarks, and real-world robots; unified interfaces and execution environments; and a trustworthy agentic coding workflow with explicit, automated validation, and testing at each milestone. NAUTILUS can not only automatically generate the required adapters and containers for existing implementations, but also wrap and onboard new or user-provided policies, simulators/benchmarks, and robots, all connected via a uniform interface. This expands cross-validation coverage without hand-written glue code. Like a nautilus shell that grows by adding chambers, NAUTILUS scales by extending its execution in chambered units, making it a research harness for scalability rather than a hand-curated framework, and aiming to reduce the engineering burden of cross-family reproduction and evaluation in the ever-growing robot learning ecosystem.

KGML-xDTD: A Knowledge Graph-based Machine Learning Framework for Drug Treatment Prediction and Mechanism Description

Background: Computational drug repurposing is a cost- and time-efficient approach that aims to identify new therapeutic targets or diseases (indications) of existing drugs/compounds. It is especially critical for emerging and/or orphan diseases due to its cheaper investment and shorter research cycle compared with traditional wet-lab drug discovery approaches. However, the underlying mechanisms of action (MOAs) between repurposed drugs and their target diseases remain largely unknown, which is still a main obstacle for computational drug repurposing methods to be widely adopted in clinical settings. Results: In this work, we propose KGML-xDTD: a Knowledge Graph-based Machine Learning framework for explainably predicting Drugs Treating Diseases. It is a two-module framework that not only predicts the treatment probabilities between drugs/compounds and diseases but also biologically explains them via knowledge graph (KG) path-based, testable mechanisms of action (MOAs). We leverage knowledge-and-publication based information to extract biologically meaningful "demonstration paths" as the intermediate guidance in the Graph-based Reinforcement Learning (GRL) path-finding process. Comprehensive experiments and case study analyses show that the proposed framework can achieve state-of-the-art performance in both predictions of drug repurposing and recapitulation of human-curated drug MOA paths. Conclusions: KGML-xDTD is the first model framework that can offer KG-path explanations for drug repurposing predictions by leveraging the combination of prediction outcomes and existing biological knowledge and publications. We believe it can effectively reduce "black-box" concerns and increase prediction confidence for drug repurposing based on predicted path-based explanations, and further accelerate the process of drug discovery for emerging diseases.

Learning Human-Compatible Representations for Case-Based Decision Support

Algorithmic case-based decision support provides examples to help human make sense of predicted labels and aid human in decision-making tasks. Despite the promising performance of supervised learning, representations learned by supervised models may not align well with human intuitions: what models consider as similar examples can be perceived as distinct by humans. As a result, they have limited effectiveness in case-based decision support. In this work, we incorporate ideas from metric learning with supervised learning to examine the importance of alignment for effective decision support. In addition to instance-level labels, we use human-provided triplet judgments to learn human-compatible decision-focused representations. Using both synthetic data and human subject experiments in multiple classification tasks, we demonstrate that such representation is better aligned with human perception than representation solely optimized for classification. Human-compatible representations identify nearest neighbors that are perceived as more similar by humans and allow humans to make more accurate predictions, leading to substantial improvements in human decision accuracies (17.8% in butterfly vs. moth classification and 13.2% in pneumonia classification).

SEP-Attack: A Simple and Effective Paradigm for Transfer-Based Textual Adversarial Attack

Despite the strong performance of deep neural networks in modern Web and language applications, they remain vulnerable to adversarial attacks, especially transferable attacks that generate adversarial examples using surrogate models without accessing the victim model. Transferable attacks in the text domain are still under-explored, with only a few studies addressing this challenging issue, often with suboptimal results due to equal treatment of submodels or inaccurate estimation of importance scores. To address these challenges, we propose a simple yet effective paradigm for transfer-based textual adversarial attack, named SEP-Attack. Specifically, we employ the Determinantal Point Process (DPP) to generate diverse surrogate ensemble weights, representing the transferability of submodels. Using these weights, we introduce a new metric to evaluate prediction confidence scores, which in turn are used to calculate word importance scores and generate adversarial candidates. Finally, we quantify the transferability score for each candidate and select the top ones as the final transferable adversarial examples. Experiments conducted on four datasets and two real-world APIs validate the efficacy of SEP-Attack, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art baselines.

Enhancing Fine-Grained Spatial Grounding in 3D CT Report Generation via Discriminative Guidance

Vision--language models (VLMs) for radiology report generation (RRG) can produce long-form chest CT reports from volumetric scans and show strong potential to improve radiology workflow efficiency and consistency. However, existing methods face two key limitations: (i) training supervision is often coarse, aligning a whole CT volume with a full free-text report without explicit alignment for fine-grained attributes or pathology locations; and (ii) evaluation is typically holistic (lexical overlap, entity matching, or LLM-as-a-judge scores) and not diagnostic for spatial grounding. We propose \emph{Discriminative Cue-Prompting with Prompt Dropout (DCP-PD)}, a plug-and-play framework that distills fine-grained cues from free-text reports and uses them to guide report generation while mitigating shortcut reliance via prompt dropout. DCP-PD achieves state-of-the-art performance on CT-RATE, improving macro F1 from $=0.501$ to $0.603$ (20% relative), and substantially boosts out-of-distribution performance on Rad-ChestCT from F1 $=0.266$ to $0.503$ (89% relative). Finally, we introduce a hierarchical, location-aware question-set protocol (presence $\rightarrow$ laterality $\rightarrow$ lobe) to directly assess pathology-location grounding, showing that fine-grained spatial localization remains challenging even for models that score highly on current benchmarks.

Influence of Early through Late Fusion on Pancreas Segmentation from Imperfectly Registered Multimodal MRI

Multimodal fusion promises better pancreas segmentation. However, where to perform fusion in models is still an open question. It is unclear if there is a best location to fuse information when analyzing pairs of imperfectly aligned images. Two main alignment challenges in this pancreas segmentation study are 1) the pancreas is deformable and 2) breathing deforms the abdomen. Even after image registration, relevant deformations are often not corrected. We examine how early through late fusion impacts pancreas segmentation. We used 353 pairs of T2-weighted (T2w) and T1-weighted (T1w) abdominal MR images from 163 subjects with accompanying pancreas labels. We used image registration (deeds) to align the image pairs. We trained a collection of basic UNets with different fusion points, spanning from early to late, to assess how early through late fusion influenced segmentation performance on imperfectly aligned images. We assessed generalization of fusion points on nnUNet. The single-modality T2w baseline using a basic UNet model had a Dice score of 0.73, while the same baseline on the nnUNet model achieved 0.80. For the basic UNet, the best fusion approach occurred in the middle of the encoder (early/mid fusion), which led to a statistically significant improvement of 0.0125 on Dice score compared to the baseline. For the nnUNet, the best fusion approach was naïve image concatenation before the model (early fusion), which resulted in a statistically significant Dice score increase of 0.0021 compared to baseline. Fusion in specific blocks can improve performance, but the best blocks for fusion are model specific, and the gains are small. In imperfectly registered datasets, fusion is a nuanced problem, with the art of design remaining vital for uncovering potential insights. Future innovation is needed to better address fusion in cases of imperfect alignment of abdominal image pairs.
