GeoPurify: A Data-Efficient Geometric Distillation Framework for Open-Vocabulary 3D SegmentationWeijia Dou, Xu Zhang, Yi Bin et al.
Recent attempts to transfer features from 2D Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to 3D semantic segmentation expose a persistent trade-off. Directly projecting 2D features into 3D yields noisy and fragmented predictions, whereas enforcing geometric coherence necessitates costly training pipelines and large-scale annotated 3D data. We argue that this limitation stems from the dominant segmentation-and-matching paradigm, which fails to reconcile 2D semantics with 3D geometric structure. The geometric cues are not eliminated during the 2D-to-3D transfer but remain latent within the noisy and view-aggregated features. To exploit this property, we propose GeoPurify that applies a small Student Affinity Network to purify 2D VLM-generated 3D point features using geometric priors distilled from a 3D self-supervised teacher model. During inference, we devise a Geometry-Guided Pooling module to further denoise the point cloud and ensure the semantic and structural consistency. Benefiting from latent geometric information and the learned affinity network, GeoPurify effectively mitigates the trade-off and achieves superior data efficiency. Extensive experiments on major 3D benchmarks demonstrate that GeoPurify achieves or surpasses state-of-the-art performance while utilizing only about 1.5% of the training data. HandEval: Taking the First Step Towards Hand Quality Evaluation in Generated ImagesZichuan Wang, Bo Peng, Songlin Yang et al.
Although recent text-to-image (T2I) models have significantly improved the overall visual quality of generated images, they still struggle in the generation of accurate details in complex local regions, especially human hands. Generated hands often exhibit structural distortions and unrealistic textures, which can be very noticeable even when the rest of the body is well-generated. However, the quality assessment of hand regions remains largely neglected, limiting downstream task performance like human-centric generation quality optimization and AIGC detection. To address this, we propose the first quality assessment task targeting generated hand regions and showcase its abundant downstream applications. We first introduce the HandPair dataset for training hand quality assessment models. It consists of 48k images formed by high- and low-quality hand pairs, enabling low-cost, efficient supervision without manual annotation. Based on it, we develop HandEval, a carefully designed hand-specific quality assessment model. It leverages the powerful visual understanding capability of Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) and incorporates prior knowledge of hand keypoints, gaining strong perception of hand quality. We further construct a human-annotated test set with hand images from various state-of-the-art (SOTA) T2I models to validate its quality evaluation capability. Results show that HandEval aligns better with human judgments than existing SOTA methods. Furthermore, we integrate HandEval into image generation and AIGC detection pipelines, prominently enhancing generated hand realism and detection accuracy, respectively, confirming its universal effectiveness in downstream applications. Code and dataset will be available.

Feature selection in linear SVMs via a hard cardinality constraint: a scalable SDP decomposition approachImmanuel Bomze, Federico D'Onofrio, Laura Palagi et al.
In this paper, we study the embedded feature selection problem in linear Support Vector Machines (SVMs), in which a cardinality constraint is employed, leading to an interpretable classification model. The problem is NP-hard due to the presence of the cardinality constraint, even though the original linear SVM amounts to a problem solvable in polynomial time. To handle the hard problem, we first introduce two mixed-integer formulations for which novel semidefinite relaxations are proposed. Exploiting the sparsity pattern of the relaxations, we decompose the problems and obtain equivalent relaxations in a much smaller cone, making the conic approaches scalable. To make the best usage of the decomposed relaxations, we propose heuristics using the information of its optimal solution. Moreover, an exact procedure is proposed by solving a sequence of mixed-integer decomposed semidefinite optimization problems. Numerical results on classical benchmarking datasets are reported, showing the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach.

Co-occurrence Background Model with Superpixels for Robust Background InitializationWenjun Zhou, Yuheng Deng, Bo Peng et al.
Background initialization is an important step in many high-level applications of video processing, ranging from video surveillance to video inpainting. However, this process is often affected by practical challenges such as illumination changes, background motion, camera jitter and intermittent movement, etc. In this paper,we develop a co-occurrence background model with superpixel segmentation for robust background initialization. We first introduce a novel co-occurrence background modeling method called as Co-occurrence Pixel-Block Pairs(CPB)to generate a reliable initial background model, and the superpixel segmentation is utilized to further acquire the spatial texture Information of foreground and background. Then, the initial background can be determined by combining the foreground extraction results with the superpixel segmentation information.Experimental results obtained from the dataset of the challenging benchmark(SBMnet)validate it's performance under various challenges.
