Correspondence-Free Multiview Point Cloud Registration via Depth-Guided Joint OptimisationYiran Zhou, Yingyu Wang, Shoudong Huang et al.
Multiview point cloud registration is a fundamental task for constructing globally consistent 3D models. Existing approaches typically rely on feature extraction and data association across multiple point clouds; however, these processes are challenging to obtain global optimal solution in complex environments. In this paper, we introduce a novel correspondence-free multiview point cloud registration method. Specifically, we represent the global map as a depth map and leverage raw depth information to formulate a non-linear least squares optimisation that jointly estimates poses of point clouds and the global map. Unlike traditional feature-based bundle adjustment methods, which rely on explicit feature extraction and data association, our method bypasses these challenges by associating multi-frame point clouds with a global depth map through their corresponding poses. This data association is implicitly incorporated and dynamically refined during the optimisation process. Extensive evaluations on real-world datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches in accuracy, particularly in challenging environments where feature extraction and data association are difficult.

Incorporating Lambertian Priors into Surface Normals MeasurementYakun Ju, Muwei Jian, Shaoxiang Guo et al.
The goal of photometric stereo is to measure the precise surface normal of a 3D object from observations with various shading cues. However, non-Lambertian surfaces influence the measurement accuracy due to irregular shading cues. Despite deep neural networks have been employed to simulate the performance of non-Lambertian surfaces, the error in specularities, shadows, and crinkle regions is hard to be reduced. In order to address this challenge, we here propose a photometric stereo network that incorporates Lambertian priors to better measure the surface normal. In this paper, we use the initial normal under the Lambertian assumption as the prior information to refine the normal measurement, instead of solely applying the observed shading cues to deriving the surface normal. Our method utilizes the Lambertian information to reparameterize the network weights and the powerful fitting ability of deep neural networks to correct these errors caused by general reflectance properties. Our explorations include: the Lambertian priors (1) reduce the learning hypothesis space, making our method learn the mapping in the same surface normal space and improving the accuracy of learning, and (2) provides the differential features learning, improving the surfaces reconstruction of details. Extensive experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed Lambertian prior photometric stereo network in accurate surface normal measurement, on the challenging benchmark dataset.

This paper introduces an algorithm to protect the privacy of individuals in streaming video data by blurring faces such that face cannot be reliably recognized. This thwarts any possible face recognition, but because all facial details are obscured, the result is of limited use. We propose a new clustering algorithm to create raw trajectories for detected faces. Associating faces across frames to form trajectories, it auto-generates cluster number and discovers new clusters through deep feature and position aggregated affinities. We introduce a Gaussian Process to refine the raw trajectories. We conducted an online experiment with 47 participants to evaluate the effectiveness of face blurring compared to the original photo (as-is), and users' experience (satisfaction, information sufficiency, enjoyment, social presence, and filter likeability)
