Automated design and optimization of agentic LLM-based systems leads to sophisticated systems that substantially improve result quality over off-the-shelf agentic patterns. However, studies of fielded agentic systems show that production systems focus much more on issues such as simplicity, controllability, and predictability of inference costs. In this paper we propose principled approaches to designing and optimizing practical agentic systems. We describe an agent framework that enables designers to enforce modularity in agentic systems, by defining "pseudo-tools" that call LLMs recursively on a restricted context. Using this framework we hand-engineer agents for a diverse set of tasks, and show that relative to dynamically-planned workflows, hand-constructed fixed workflows are generally cheaper and more accurate. We then propose novel learning methods for the agentic components required by this framework, namely pseudo-tools and fixed workflows. These learning methods generally outperform hand-engineered agents. We also exploit the modularity of the framework to apply multi-objective optimization methods to jointly optimize cost and response quality and blend the results of multiple learning systems.

Eliza: A Web3 friendly AI Agent Operating SystemShaw Walters, Sam Gao, Shakker Nerd et al.
AI Agent, powered by large language models (LLMs) as its cognitive core, is an intelligent agentic system capable of autonomously controlling and determining the execution paths under user's instructions. With the burst of capabilities of LLMs and various plugins, such as RAG, text-to-image/video/3D, etc., the potential of AI Agents has been vastly expanded, with their capabilities growing stronger by the day. However, at the intersection between AI and web3, there is currently no ideal agentic framework that can seamlessly integrate web3 applications into AI agent functionalities. In this paper, we propose Eliza, the first open-source web3-friendly Agentic framework that makes the deployment of web3 applications effortless. We emphasize that every aspect of Eliza is a regular Typescript program under the full control of its user, and it seamlessly integrates with web3 (i.e., reading and writing blockchain data, interacting with smart contracts, etc.). Furthermore, we show how stable performance is achieved through the pragmatic implementation of the key components of Eliza's runtime. Leveraging 6DoF Pose Foundation Models For Mapping Marine Sediment BurialJerry Yan, Chinmay Talegaonkar, Nicholas Antipa et al.
The burial state of anthropogenic objects on the seafloor provides insight into localized sedimentation dynamics and is also critical for assessing ecological risks, potential pollutant transport, and the viability of recovery or mitigation strategies for hazardous materials such as munitions. Accurate burial depth estimation from remote imagery remains difficult due to partial occlusion, poor visibility, and object degradation. This work introduces a computer vision pipeline, called PoseIDON, which combines deep foundation model features with multiview photogrammetry to estimate six degrees of freedom object pose and the orientation of the surrounding seafloor from ROV video. Burial depth is inferred by aligning CAD models of the objects with observed imagery and fitting a local planar approximation of the seafloor. The method is validated using footage of 54 objects, including barrels and munitions, recorded at a historic ocean dumpsite in the San Pedro Basin. The model achieves a mean burial depth error of approximately 10 centimeters and resolves spatial burial patterns that reflect underlying sediment transport processes. This approach enables scalable, non-invasive mapping of seafloor burial and supports environmental assessment at contaminated sites.
