SAM-Flow: Source-Anchored Masked Flow for Training-Free Image EditingHaowang Cui, Rui Chen, Tao Luo et al.
Training-free image editing has recently attracted increasing attention due to its ability to modify real images using powerful pre-trained diffusion and flow-matching models without additional training. However, existing inversion-based and differential-flow-based methods usually perform global latent transport, which inevitably propagates editing effects to non-target regions and leads to background leakage. To address this problem, we propose SAM-Flow, a source-anchored masked flow framework for localized training-free image editing. Instead of updating the whole latent representation, SAM-Flow first uses a scout image and token-grounded attention maps to localize the editable semantic regions. It then applies differential velocity updates only within these regions, while anchoring the remaining areas to the source-image latent trajectory. To further improve spatial stability and boundary naturalness, we introduce a time-varying source-anchored projection mechanism with dynamic soft masks, transition regions, and temporal mask accumulation. The proposed method is plug-and-play and can be integrated with mainstream flow-matching backbones such as Stable Diffusion 3 and FLUX without any fine-tuning. Extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate that SAM-Flow achieves accurate semantic editing while significantly improving background preservation, providing a simple and general localized editing paradigm for training-free image editing. GeoTransformer: Fast and Robust Point Cloud Registration with Geometric TransformerZheng Qin, Hao Yu, Changjian Wang et al.
We study the problem of extracting accurate correspondences for point cloud registration. Recent keypoint-free methods have shown great potential through bypassing the detection of repeatable keypoints which is difficult to do especially in low-overlap scenarios. They seek correspondences over downsampled superpoints, which are then propagated to dense points. Superpoints are matched based on whether their neighboring patches overlap. Such sparse and loose matching requires contextual features capturing the geometric structure of the point clouds. We propose Geometric Transformer, or GeoTransformer for short, to learn geometric feature for robust superpoint matching. It encodes pair-wise distances and triplet-wise angles, making it invariant to rigid transformation and robust in low-overlap cases. The simplistic design attains surprisingly high matching accuracy such that no RANSAC is required in the estimation of alignment transformation, leading to $100$ times acceleration. Extensive experiments on rich benchmarks encompassing indoor, outdoor, synthetic, multiway and non-rigid demonstrate the efficacy of GeoTransformer. Notably, our method improves the inlier ratio by $18{\sim}31$ percentage points and the registration recall by over $7$ points on the challenging 3DLoMatch benchmark. Deep Graph-based Spatial Consistency for Robust Non-rigid Point Cloud RegistrationZheng Qin, Hao Yu, Changjian Wang et al.
We study the problem of outlier correspondence pruning for non-rigid point cloud registration. In rigid registration, spatial consistency has been a commonly used criterion to discriminate outliers from inliers. It measures the compatibility of two correspondences by the discrepancy between the respective distances in two point clouds. However, spatial consistency no longer holds in non-rigid cases and outlier rejection for non-rigid registration has not been well studied. In this work, we propose Graph-based Spatial Consistency Network (GraphSCNet) to filter outliers for non-rigid registration. Our method is based on the fact that non-rigid deformations are usually locally rigid, or local shape preserving. We first design a local spatial consistency measure over the deformation graph of the point cloud, which evaluates the spatial compatibility only between the correspondences in the vicinity of a graph node. An attention-based non-rigid correspondence embedding module is then devised to learn a robust representation of non-rigid correspondences from local spatial consistency. Despite its simplicity, GraphSCNet effectively improves the quality of the putative correspondences and attains state-of-the-art performance on three challenging benchmarks. MotionTrack: Learning Robust Short-term and Long-term Motions for Multi-Object TrackingZheng Qin, Sanping Zhou, Le Wang et al.
The main challenge of Multi-Object Tracking~(MOT) lies in maintaining a continuous trajectory for each target. Existing methods often learn reliable motion patterns to match the same target between adjacent frames and discriminative appearance features to re-identify the lost targets after a long period. However, the reliability of motion prediction and the discriminability of appearances can be easily hurt by dense crowds and extreme occlusions in the tracking process. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective multi-object tracker, i.e., MotionTrack, which learns robust short-term and long-term motions in a unified framework to associate trajectories from a short to long range. For dense crowds, we design a novel Interaction Module to learn interaction-aware motions from short-term trajectories, which can estimate the complex movement of each target. For extreme occlusions, we build a novel Refind Module to learn reliable long-term motions from the target's history trajectory, which can link the interrupted trajectory with its corresponding detection. Our Interaction Module and Refind Module are embedded in the well-known tracking-by-detection paradigm, which can work in tandem to maintain superior performance. Extensive experimental results on MOT17 and MOT20 datasets demonstrate the superiority of our approach in challenging scenarios, and it achieves state-of-the-art performances at various MOT metrics.

2D3D-MATR: 2D-3D Matching Transformer for Detection-free Registration between Images and Point CloudsMinhao Li, Zheng Qin, Zhirui Gao et al.
The commonly adopted detect-then-match approach to registration finds difficulties in the cross-modality cases due to the incompatible keypoint detection and inconsistent feature description. We propose, 2D3D-MATR, a detection-free method for accurate and robust registration between images and point clouds. Our method adopts a coarse-to-fine pipeline where it first computes coarse correspondences between downsampled patches of the input image and the point cloud and then extends them to form dense correspondences between pixels and points within the patch region. The coarse-level patch matching is based on transformer which jointly learns global contextual constraints with self-attention and cross-modality correlations with cross-attention. To resolve the scale ambiguity in patch matching, we construct a multi-scale pyramid for each image patch and learn to find for each point patch the best matching image patch at a proper resolution level. Extensive experiments on two public benchmarks demonstrate that 2D3D-MATR outperforms the previous state-of-the-art P2-Net by around $20$ percentage points on inlier ratio and over $10$ points on registration recall. Rotation-Invariant Transformer for Point Cloud MatchingHao Yu, Zheng Qin, Ji Hou et al.
The intrinsic rotation invariance lies at the core of matching point clouds with handcrafted descriptors. However, it is widely despised by recent deep matchers that obtain the rotation invariance extrinsically via data augmentation. As the finite number of augmented rotations can never span the continuous SO(3) space, these methods usually show instability when facing rotations that are rarely seen. To this end, we introduce RoITr, a Rotation-Invariant Transformer to cope with the pose variations in the point cloud matching task. We contribute both on the local and global levels. Starting from the local level, we introduce an attention mechanism embedded with Point Pair Feature (PPF)-based coordinates to describe the pose-invariant geometry, upon which a novel attention-based encoder-decoder architecture is constructed. We further propose a global transformer with rotation-invariant cross-frame spatial awareness learned by the self-attention mechanism, which significantly improves the feature distinctiveness and makes the model robust with respect to the low overlap. Experiments are conducted on both the rigid and non-rigid public benchmarks, where RoITr outperforms all the state-of-the-art models by a considerable margin in the low-overlapping scenarios. Especially when the rotations are enlarged on the challenging 3DLoMatch benchmark, RoITr surpasses the existing methods by at least 13 and 5 percentage points in terms of Inlier Ratio and Registration Recall, respectively.

Tensorformer: Normalized Matrix Attention Transformer for High-quality Point Cloud ReconstructionHui Tian, Zheng Qin, Renjiao Yi et al.
Surface reconstruction from raw point clouds has been studied for decades in the computer graphics community, which is highly demanded by modeling and rendering applications nowadays. Classic solutions, such as Poisson surface reconstruction, require point normals as extra input to perform reasonable results. Modern transformer-based methods can work without normals, while the results are less fine-grained due to limited encoding performance in local fusion from discrete points. We introduce a novel normalized matrix attention transformer (Tensorformer) to perform high-quality reconstruction. The proposed matrix attention allows for simultaneous point-wise and channel-wise message passing, while the previous vector attention loses neighbor point information across different channels. It brings more degree of freedom in feature learning and thus facilitates better modeling of local geometries. Our method achieves state-of-the-art on two commonly used datasets, ShapeNetCore and ABC, and attains 4% improvements on IOU on ShapeNet. RIGA: Rotation-Invariant and Globally-Aware Descriptors for Point Cloud RegistrationHao Yu, Ji Hou, Zheng Qin et al.
Successful point cloud registration relies on accurate correspondences established upon powerful descriptors. However, existing neural descriptors either leverage a rotation-variant backbone whose performance declines under large rotations, or encode local geometry that is less distinctive. To address this issue, we introduce RIGA to learn descriptors that are Rotation-Invariant by design and Globally-Aware. From the Point Pair Features (PPFs) of sparse local regions, rotation-invariant local geometry is encoded into geometric descriptors. Global awareness of 3D structures and geometric context is subsequently incorporated, both in a rotation-invariant fashion. More specifically, 3D structures of the whole frame are first represented by our global PPF signatures, from which structural descriptors are learned to help geometric descriptors sense the 3D world beyond local regions. Geometric context from the whole scene is then globally aggregated into descriptors. Finally, the description of sparse regions is interpolated to dense point descriptors, from which correspondences are extracted for registration. To validate our approach, we conduct extensive experiments on both object- and scene-level data. With large rotations, RIGA surpasses the state-of-the-art methods by a margin of 8\degree in terms of the Relative Rotation Error on ModelNet40 and improves the Feature Matching Recall by at least 5 percentage points on 3DLoMatch.

Simultaneous Image-to-Zero and Zero-to-Noise: Diffusion Models with Analytical Image AttenuationYuhang Huang, Zheng Qin, Xinwang Liu et al.
Recent studies have demonstrated that the forward diffusion process is crucial for the effectiveness of diffusion models in terms of generative quality and sampling efficiency. We propose incorporating an analytical image attenuation process into the forward diffusion process for high-quality (un)conditioned image generation with significantly fewer denoising steps compared to the vanilla diffusion model requiring thousands of steps. In a nutshell, our method represents the forward image-to-noise mapping as simultaneous \textit{image-to-zero} mapping and \textit{zero-to-noise} mapping. Under this framework, we mathematically derive 1) the training objectives and 2) for the reverse time the sampling formula based on an analytical attenuation function which models image to zero mapping. The former enables our method to learn noise and image components simultaneously which simplifies learning. Importantly, because of the latter's analyticity in the \textit{zero-to-image} sampling function, we can avoid the ordinary differential equation-based accelerators and instead naturally perform sampling with an arbitrary step size. We have conducted extensive experiments on unconditioned image generation, \textit{e.g.}, CIFAR-10 and CelebA-HQ-256, and image-conditioned downstream tasks such as super-resolution, saliency detection, edge detection, and image inpainting. The proposed diffusion models achieve competitive generative quality with much fewer denoising steps compared to the state of the art, thus greatly accelerating the generation speed. In particular, to generate images of comparable quality, our models require only one-twentieth of the denoising steps compared to the baseline denoising diffusion probabilistic models. Moreover, we achieve state-of-the-art performances on the image-conditioned tasks using only no more than 10 steps.

Single-Shot and Multi-Shot Feature Learning for Multi-Object TrackingYizhe Li, Sanping Zhou, Zheng Qin et al.
Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) remains a vital component of intelligent video analysis, which aims to locate targets and maintain a consistent identity for each target throughout a video sequence. Existing works usually learn a discriminative feature representation, such as motion and appearance, to associate the detections across frames, which are easily affected by mutual occlusion and background clutter in practice. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective two-stage feature learning paradigm to jointly learn single-shot and multi-shot features for different targets, so as to achieve robust data association in the tracking process. For the detections without being associated, we design a novel single-shot feature learning module to extract discriminative features of each detection, which can efficiently associate targets between adjacent frames. For the tracklets being lost several frames, we design a novel multi-shot feature learning module to extract discriminative features of each tracklet, which can accurately refind these lost targets after a long period. Once equipped with a simple data association logic, the resulting VisualTracker can perform robust MOT based on the single-shot and multi-shot feature representations. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method has achieved significant improvements on MOT17 and MOT20 datasets while reaching state-of-the-art performance on DanceTrack dataset.

Task-Specific Context Decoupling for Object DetectionJiayuan Zhuang, Zheng Qin, Hao Yu et al.
Classification and localization are two main sub-tasks in object detection. Nonetheless, these two tasks have inconsistent preferences for feature context, i.e., localization expects more boundary-aware features to accurately regress the bounding box, while more semantic context is preferred for object classification. Exsiting methods usually leverage disentangled heads to learn different feature context for each task. However, the heads are still applied on the same input features, which leads to an imperfect balance between classifcation and localization. In this work, we propose a novel Task-Specific COntext DEcoupling (TSCODE) head which further disentangles the feature encoding for two tasks. For classification, we generate spatially-coarse but semantically-strong feature encoding. For localization, we provide high-resolution feature map containing more edge information to better regress object boundaries. TSCODE is plug-and-play and can be easily incorperated into existing detection pipelines. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method stably improves different detectors by over 1.0 AP with less computational cost. Our code and models will be publicly released.

Unsupervised Voice-Face Representation Learning by Cross-Modal Prototype ContrastBoqing Zhu, Kele Xu, Changjian Wang et al.
We present an approach to learn voice-face representations from the talking face videos, without any identity labels. Previous works employ cross-modal instance discrimination tasks to establish the correlation of voice and face. These methods neglect the semantic content of different videos, introducing false-negative pairs as training noise. Furthermore, the positive pairs are constructed based on the natural correlation between audio clips and visual frames. However, this correlation might be weak or inaccurate in a large amount of real-world data, which leads to deviating positives into the contrastive paradigm. To address these issues, we propose the cross-modal prototype contrastive learning (CMPC), which takes advantage of contrastive methods and resists adverse effects of false negatives and deviate positives. On one hand, CMPC could learn the intra-class invariance by constructing semantic-wise positives via unsupervised clustering in different modalities. On the other hand, by comparing the similarities of cross-modal instances from that of cross-modal prototypes, we dynamically recalibrate the unlearnable instances' contribution to overall loss. Experiments show that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art unsupervised methods on various voice-face association evaluation protocols. Additionally, in the low-shot supervision setting, our method also has a significant improvement compared to previous instance-wise contrastive learning.

Learning Accurate Template Matching with Differentiable Coarse-to-Fine Correspondence RefinementZhirui Gao, Renjiao Yi, Zheng Qin et al.
Template matching is a fundamental task in computer vision and has been studied for decades. It plays an essential role in manufacturing industry for estimating the poses of different parts, facilitating downstream tasks such as robotic grasping. Existing methods fail when the template and source images have different modalities, cluttered backgrounds or weak textures. They also rarely consider geometric transformations via homographies, which commonly exist even for planar industrial parts. To tackle the challenges, we propose an accurate template matching method based on differentiable coarse-to-fine correspondence refinement. We use an edge-aware module to overcome the domain gap between the mask template and the grayscale image, allowing robust matching. An initial warp is estimated using coarse correspondences based on novel structure-aware information provided by transformers. This initial alignment is passed to a refinement network using references and aligned images to obtain sub-pixel level correspondences which are used to give the final geometric transformation. Extensive evaluation shows that our method is significantly better than state-of-the-art methods and baselines, providing good generalization ability and visually plausible results even on unseen real data.

Mover: Mask and Recovery based Facial Part Consistency Aware Method for Deepfake Video DetectionJuan Hu, Xin Liao, Difei Gao et al.
Deepfake techniques have been widely used for malicious purposes, prompting extensive research interest in developing Deepfake detection methods. Deepfake manipulations typically involve tampering with facial parts, which can result in inconsistencies across different parts of the face. For instance, Deepfake techniques may change smiling lips to an upset lip, while the eyes remain smiling. Existing detection methods depend on specific indicators of forgery, which tend to disappear as the forgery patterns are improved. To address the limitation, we propose Mover, a new Deepfake detection model that exploits unspecific facial part inconsistencies, which are inevitable weaknesses of Deepfake videos. Mover randomly masks regions of interest (ROIs) and recovers faces to learn unspecific features, which makes it difficult for fake faces to be recovered, while real faces can be easily recovered. Specifically, given a real face image, we first pretrain a masked autoencoder to learn facial part consistency by dividing faces into three parts and randomly masking ROIs, which are then recovered based on the unmasked facial parts. Furthermore, to maximize the discrepancy between real and fake videos, we propose a novel model with dual networks that utilize the pretrained encoder and masked autoencoder, respectively. 1) The pretrained encoder is finetuned for capturing the encoding of inconsistent information in the given video. 2) The pretrained masked autoencoder is utilized for mapping faces and distinguishing real and fake videos. Our extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that Mover is highly effective.

Recap: Detecting Deepfake Video with Unpredictable Tampered Traces via Recovering Faces and Mapping Recovered FacesJuan Hu, Xin Liao, Difei Gao et al.
The exploitation of Deepfake techniques for malicious intentions has driven significant research interest in Deepfake detection. Deepfake manipulations frequently introduce random tampered traces, leading to unpredictable outcomes in different facial regions. However, existing detection methods heavily rely on specific forgery indicators, and as the forgery mode improves, these traces become increasingly randomized, resulting in a decline in the detection performance of methods reliant on specific forgery traces. To address the limitation, we propose Recap, a novel Deepfake detection model that exposes unspecific facial part inconsistencies by recovering faces and enlarges the differences between real and fake by mapping recovered faces. In the recovering stage, the model focuses on randomly masking regions of interest (ROIs) and reconstructing real faces without unpredictable tampered traces, resulting in a relatively good recovery effect for real faces while a poor recovery effect for fake faces. In the mapping stage, the output of the recovery phase serves as supervision to guide the facial mapping process. This mapping process strategically emphasizes the mapping of fake faces with poor recovery, leading to a further deterioration in their representation, while enhancing and refining the mapping of real faces with good representation. As a result, this approach significantly amplifies the discrepancies between real and fake videos. Our extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that Recap is effective in multiple scenarios.

Learning Instance-Aware Correspondences for Robust Multi-Instance Point Cloud Registration in Cluttered ScenesZhiyuan Yu, Zheng Qin, Lintao Zheng et al.
Multi-instance point cloud registration estimates the poses of multiple instances of a model point cloud in a scene point cloud. Extracting accurate point correspondence is to the center of the problem. Existing approaches usually treat the scene point cloud as a whole, overlooking the separation of instances. Therefore, point features could be easily polluted by other points from the background or different instances, leading to inaccurate correspondences oblivious to separate instances, especially in cluttered scenes. In this work, we propose MIRETR, Multi-Instance REgistration TRansformer, a coarse-to-fine approach to the extraction of instance-aware correspondences. At the coarse level, it jointly learns instance-aware superpoint features and predicts per-instance masks. With instance masks, the influence from outside of the instance being concerned is minimized, such that highly reliable superpoint correspondences can be extracted. The superpoint correspondences are then extended to instance candidates at the fine level according to the instance masks. At last, an efficient candidate selection and refinement algorithm is devised to obtain the final registrations. Extensive experiments on three public benchmarks demonstrate the efficacy of our approach. In particular, MIRETR outperforms the state of the arts by 16.6 points on F1 score on the challenging ROBI benchmark. Code and models are available at https://github.com/zhiyuanYU134/MIRETR.

F2M-Reg: Unsupervised RGB-D Point Cloud Registration with Frame-to-Model OptimizationZhinan Yu, Zheng Qin, Yijie Tang et al.
This work studies the problem of unsupervised RGB-D point cloud registration, which aims at training a robust registration model without ground-truth pose supervision. Existing methods usually leverages unposed RGB-D sequences and adopt a frame-to-frame framework based on differentiable rendering to train the registration model, which enforces the photometric and geometric consistency between the two frames for supervision. However, this frame-to-frame framework is vulnerable to inconsistent factors between different frames, e.g., lighting changes, geometry occlusion, and reflective materials, which leads to suboptimal convergence of the registration model. In this paper, we propose a novel frame-to-model optimization framework named F2M-Reg for unsupervised RGB-D point cloud registration. We leverage the neural implicit field as a global model of the scene and optimize the estimated poses of the frames by registering them to the global model, and the registration model is subsequently trained with the optimized poses. Thanks to the global encoding capability of neural implicit field, our frame-to-model framework is significantly more robust to inconsistent factors between different frames and thus can provide better supervision for the registration model. Besides, we demonstrate that F2M-Reg can be further enhanced by a simplistic synthetic warming-up strategy. To this end, we construct a photorealistic synthetic dataset named Sim-RGBD to initialize the registration model for the frame-to-model optimization on real-world RGB-D sequences. Extensive experiments on four challenging benchmarks have shown that our method surpasses the previous state-of-the-art counterparts by a large margin, especially under scenarios with severe lighting changes and low overlap. A Modular, Data-Free Pipeline for Multi-Label Intention Recognition in Transportation Agentic AI ApplicationsXiaocai Zhang, Hur Lim, Ke Wang et al.
In this study, a modular, data-free pipeline for multi-label intention recognition is proposed for agentic AI applications in transportation. Unlike traditional intent recognition systems that depend on large, annotated corpora and often struggle with fine-grained, multi-label discrimination, our approach eliminates the need for costly data collection while enhancing the accuracy of multi-label intention understanding. Specifically, the overall pipeline, named DMTC, consists of three steps: 1) using prompt engineering to guide large language models (LLMs) to generate diverse synthetic queries in different transport scenarios; 2) encoding each textual query with a Sentence-T5 model to obtain compact semantic embeddings; 3) training a lightweight classifier using a novel online focal-contrastive (OFC) loss that emphasizes hard samples and maximizes inter-class separability. The applicability of the proposed pipeline is demonstrated in an agentic AI application in the maritime transportation context. Extensive experiments show that DMTC achieves a Hamming loss of 5.35% and an AUC of 95.92%, outperforming state-of-the-art multi-label classifiers and recent end-to-end SOTA LLM-based baselines. Further analysis reveals that Sentence-T5 embeddings improve subset accuracy by at least 3.29% over alternative encoders, and integrating the OFC loss yields an additional 0.98% gain compared to standard contrastive objectives. In conclusion, our system seamlessly routes user queries to task-specific modules (e.g., ETA information, traffic risk evaluation, and other typical scenarios in the transportation domain), laying the groundwork for fully autonomous, intention-aware agents without costly manual labelling.

Towards Generalizable Multi-Object TrackingZheng Qin, Le Wang, Sanping Zhou et al.
Multi-Object Tracking MOT encompasses various tracking scenarios, each characterized by unique traits. Effective trackers should demonstrate a high degree of generalizability across diverse scenarios. However, existing trackers struggle to accommodate all aspects or necessitate hypothesis and experimentation to customize the association information motion and or appearance for a given scenario, leading to narrowly tailored solutions with limited generalizability. In this paper, we investigate the factors that influence trackers generalization to different scenarios and concretize them into a set of tracking scenario attributes to guide the design of more generalizable trackers. Furthermore, we propose a point-wise to instance-wise relation framework for MOT, i.e., GeneralTrack, which can generalize across diverse scenarios while eliminating the need to balance motion and appearance. It encodes pair-wise distances and triplet-wise angles, making it robust in low-overlap cases and invariant to rigid transformation. The simplistic design attains surprisingly high matching accuracy such that no RANSAC is required in the estimation of alignment transformation, leading to $100$ times acceleration. Our method improves the inlier ratio by $17{\sim}30$ percentage points and the registration recall by over $7$ points on the challenging 3DLoMatch benchmark. Built upon mature system auditing frameworks, ThreatRaptor provides (1) an unsupervised, light-weight, and accurate NLP pipeline that extracts structured threat behaviors from unstructured OSCTI text, (2) a concise and expressive domain-specific query language, TBQL, to hunt for malicious system activities, (3) a query synthesis mechanism that automatically synthesizes a TBQL query from the extracted threat behaviors, and (4) an efficient query execution engine to search the big system audit logging data.

Graph Convolutional Network for Recommendation with Low-pass Collaborative FiltersWenhui Yu, Zheng Qin
\textbf{G}raph \textbf{C}onvolutional \textbf{N}etwork (\textbf{GCN}) is widely used in graph data learning tasks such as recommendation. However, when facing a large graph, the graph convolution is very computationally expensive thus is simplified in all existing GCNs, yet is seriously impaired due to the oversimplification. To address this gap, we leverage the \textit{original graph convolution} in GCN and propose a \textbf{L}ow-pass \textbf{C}ollaborative \textbf{F}ilter (\textbf{LCF}) to make it applicable to the large graph. LCF is designed to remove the noise caused by exposure and quantization in the observed data, and it also reduces the complexity of graph convolution in an unscathed way. Experiments show that LCF improves the effectiveness and efficiency of graph convolution and our GCN outperforms existing GCNs significantly. ThunderNet: Towards Real-time Generic Object DetectionZheng Qin, Zeming Li, Zhaoning Zhang et al.
Real-time generic object detection on mobile platforms is a crucial but challenging computer vision task. However, previous CNN-based detectors suffer from enormous computational cost, which hinders them from real-time inference in computation-constrained scenarios. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of two-stage detectors in real-time generic detection and propose a lightweight two-stage detector named ThunderNet. In the backbone part, we analyze the drawbacks in previous lightweight backbones and present a lightweight backbone designed for object detection. In the detection part, we exploit an extremely efficient RPN and detection head design. To generate more discriminative feature representation, we design two efficient architecture blocks, Context Enhancement Module and Spatial Attention Module. At last, we investigate the balance between the input resolution, the backbone, and the detection head. Compared with lightweight one-stage detectors, ThunderNet achieves superior performance with only 40% of the computational cost on PASCAL VOC and COCO benchmarks. Without bells and whistles, our model runs at 24.1 fps on an ARM-based device. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first real-time detector reported on ARM platforms. Multi-Prompts Learning with Cross-Modal Alignment for Attribute-based Person Re-IdentificationYajing Zhai, Yawen Zeng, Zhiyong Huang et al.
The fine-grained attribute descriptions can significantly supplement the valuable semantic information for person image, which is vital to the success of person re-identification (ReID) task. However, current ReID algorithms typically failed to effectively leverage the rich contextual information available, primarily due to their reliance on simplistic and coarse utilization of image attributes. Recent advances in artificial intelligence generated content have made it possible to automatically generate plentiful fine-grained attribute descriptions and make full use of them. Thereby, this paper explores the potential of using the generated multiple person attributes as prompts in ReID tasks with off-the-shelf (large) models for more accurate retrieval results. To this end, we present a new framework called Multi-Prompts ReID (MP-ReID), based on prompt learning and language models, to fully dip fine attributes to assist ReID task. Specifically, MP-ReID first learns to hallucinate diverse, informative, and promptable sentences for describing the query images. This procedure includes (i) explicit prompts of which attributes a person has and furthermore (ii) implicit learnable prompts for adjusting/conditioning the criteria used towards this person identity matching. Explicit prompts are obtained by ensembling generation models, such as ChatGPT and VQA models. Moreover, an alignment module is designed to fuse multi-prompts (i.e., explicit and implicit ones) progressively and mitigate the cross-modal gap. Extensive experiments on the existing attribute-involved ReID datasets, namely, Market1501 and DukeMTMC-reID, demonstrate the effectiveness and rationality of the proposed MP-ReID solution.

Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction Based on Social Interactions Learning With Random WeightsJiajia Xie, Sheng Zhang, Beihao Xia et al.
Pedestrian trajectory prediction is a critical technology in the evolution of self-driving cars toward complete artificial intelligence. Over recent years, focusing on the trajectories of pedestrians to model their social interactions has surged with great interest in more accurate trajectory predictions. However, existing methods for modeling pedestrian social interactions rely on pre-defined rules, struggling to capture non-explicit social interactions. In this work, we propose a novel framework named DTGAN, which extends the application of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to graph sequence data, with the primary objective of automatically capturing implicit social interactions and achieving precise predictions of pedestrian trajectory. DTGAN innovatively incorporates random weights within each graph to eliminate the need for pre-defined interaction rules. We further enhance the performance of DTGAN by exploring diverse task loss functions during adversarial training, which yields improvements of 16.7\% and 39.3\% on metrics ADE and FDE, respectively. The effectiveness and accuracy of our framework are verified on two public datasets. The experimental results show that our proposed DTGAN achieves superior performance and is well able to understand pedestrians' intentions.

Are Watermarks Bugs for Deepfake Detectors? Rethinking Proactive ForensicsXiaoshuai Wu, Xin Liao, Bo Ou et al.
AI-generated content has accelerated the topic of media synthesis, particularly Deepfake, which can manipulate our portraits for positive or malicious purposes. Before releasing these threatening face images, one promising forensics solution is the injection of robust watermarks to track their own provenance. However, we argue that current watermarking models, originally devised for genuine images, may harm the deployed Deepfake detectors when directly applied to forged images, since the watermarks are prone to overlap with the forgery signals used for detection. To bridge this gap, we thus propose AdvMark, on behalf of proactive forensics, to exploit the adversarial vulnerability of passive detectors for good. Specifically, AdvMark serves as a plug-and-play procedure for fine-tuning any robust watermarking into adversarial watermarking, to enhance the forensic detectability of watermarked images; meanwhile, the watermarks can still be extracted for provenance tracking. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed AdvMark, leveraging robust watermarking to fool Deepfake detectors, which can help improve the accuracy of downstream Deepfake detection without tuning the in-the-wild detectors. We believe this work will shed some light on the harmless proactive forensics against Deepfake.

CogNav: Cognitive Process Modeling for Object Goal Navigation with LLMsYihan Cao, Jiazhao Zhang, Zhinan Yu et al.
Object goal navigation (ObjectNav) is a fundamental task in embodied AI, requiring an agent to locate a target object in previously unseen environments. This task is particularly challenging because it requires both perceptual and cognitive processes, including object recognition and decision-making. While substantial advancements in perception have been driven by the rapid development of visual foundation models, progress on the cognitive aspect remains constrained, primarily limited to either implicit learning through simulator rollouts or explicit reliance on predefined heuristic rules. Inspired by neuroscientific findings demonstrating that humans maintain and dynamically update fine-grained cognitive states during object search tasks in novel environments, we propose CogNav, a framework designed to mimic this cognitive process using large language models. Specifically, we model the cognitive process using a finite state machine comprising fine-grained cognitive states, ranging from exploration to identification. Transitions between states are determined by a large language model based on a dynamically constructed heterogeneous cognitive map, which contains spatial and semantic information about the scene being explored. Extensive evaluations on the HM3D, MP3D, and RoboTHOR benchmarks demonstrate that our cognitive process modeling significantly improves the success rate of ObjectNav at least by relative 14% over the state-of-the-arts.

Prediction of Vessel Arrival Time to Pilotage Area Using Multi-Data Fusion and Deep LearningXiaocai Zhang, Xiuju Fu, Zhe Xiao et al.
This paper investigates the prediction of vessels' arrival time to the pilotage area using multi-data fusion and deep learning approaches. Firstly, the vessel arrival contour is extracted based on Multivariate Kernel Density Estimation (MKDE) and clustering. Secondly, multiple data sources, including Automatic Identification System (AIS), pilotage booking information, and meteorological data, are fused before latent feature extraction. Thirdly, a Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN) framework that incorporates a residual mechanism is constructed to learn the hidden arrival patterns of the vessels. Extensive tests on two real-world data sets from Singapore have been conducted and the following promising results have been obtained: 1) fusion of pilotage booking information and meteorological data improves the prediction accuracy, with pilotage booking information having a more significant impact; 2) using discrete embedding for the meteorological data performs better than using continuous embedding; 3) the TCN outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline methods in regression tasks, exhibiting Mean Absolute Error (MAE) ranging from 4.58 min to 4.86 min; and 4) approximately 89.41% to 90.61% of the absolute prediction residuals fall within a time frame of 10 min.

Versatile Multimodal Controls for Expressive Talking Human AnimationZheng Qin, Ruobing Zheng, Yabing Wang et al.
In filmmaking, directors typically allow actors to perform freely based on the script before providing specific guidance on how to present key actions. AI-generated content faces similar requirements, where users not only need automatic generation of lip synchronization and basic gestures from audio input but also desire semantically accurate and expressive body movement that can be ``directly guided'' through text descriptions. Therefore, we present VersaAnimator, a versatile framework that synthesizes expressive talking human videos from arbitrary portrait images. Specifically, we design a motion generator that produces basic rhythmic movements from audio input and supports text-prompt control for specific actions. The generated whole-body 3D motion tokens can animate portraits of various scales, producing talking heads, half-body gestures and even leg movements for whole-body images. Besides, we introduce a multi-modal controlled video diffusion that generates photorealistic videos, where speech signals govern lip synchronization, facial expressions, and head motions while body movements are guided by the 2D poses. Furthermore, we introduce a token2pose translator to smoothly map 3D motion tokens to 2D pose sequences. This design mitigates the stiffness resulting from direct 3D to 2D conversion and enhances the details of the generated body movements. Extensive experiments shows that VersaAnimator synthesizes lip-synced and identity-preserving videos while generating expressive and semantically meaningful whole-body motions.

From Mapping to Composing: A Two-Stage Framework for Zero-shot Composed Image RetrievalYabing Wang, Zhuotao Tian, Qingpei Guo et al.
Composed Image Retrieval (CIR) is a challenging multimodal task that retrieves a target image based on a reference image and accompanying modification text. Due to the high cost of annotating CIR triplet datasets, zero-shot (ZS) CIR has gained traction as a promising alternative. Existing studies mainly focus on projection-based methods, which map an image to a single pseudo-word token. However, these methods face three critical challenges: (1) insufficient pseudo-word token representation capacity, (2) discrepancies between training and inference phases, and (3) reliance on large-scale synthetic data. To address these issues, we propose a two-stage framework where the training is accomplished from mapping to composing. In the first stage, we enhance image-to-pseudo-word token learning by introducing a visual semantic injection module and a soft text alignment objective, enabling the token to capture richer and fine-grained image information. In the second stage, we optimize the text encoder using a small amount of synthetic triplet data, enabling it to effectively extract compositional semantics by combining pseudo-word tokens with modification text for accurate target image retrieval. The strong visual-to-pseudo mapping established in the first stage provides a solid foundation for the second stage, making our approach compatible with both high- and low-quality synthetic data, and capable of achieving significant performance gains with only a small amount of synthetic data. Extensive experiments were conducted on three public datasets, achieving superior performance compared to existing approaches.

Referencing Where to Focus: Improving VisualGrounding with Referential QueryYabing Wang, Zhuotao Tian, Qingpei Guo et al.
Visual Grounding aims to localize the referring object in an image given a natural language expression. Recent advancements in DETR-based visual grounding methods have attracted considerable attention, as they directly predict the coordinates of the target object without relying on additional efforts, such as pre-generated proposal candidates or pre-defined anchor boxes. However, existing research primarily focuses on designing stronger multi-modal decoder, which typically generates learnable queries by random initialization or by using linguistic embeddings. This vanilla query generation approach inevitably increases the learning difficulty for the model, as it does not involve any target-related information at the beginning of decoding. Furthermore, they only use the deepest image feature during the query learning process, overlooking the importance of features from other levels. To address these issues, we propose a novel approach, called RefFormer. It consists of the query adaption module that can be seamlessly integrated into CLIP and generate the referential query to provide the prior context for decoder, along with a task-specific decoder. By incorporating the referential query into the decoder, we can effectively mitigate the learning difficulty of the decoder, and accurately concentrate on the target object. Additionally, our proposed query adaption module can also act as an adapter, preserving the rich knowledge within CLIP without the need to tune the parameters of the backbone network. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed method, outperforming state-of-the-art approaches on five visual grounding benchmarks.

Embracing Aleatoric Uncertainty: Generating Diverse 3D Human MotionZheng Qin, Yabing Wang, Minghui Yang et al.
Generating 3D human motions from text is a challenging yet valuable task. The key aspects of this task are ensuring text-motion consistency and achieving generation diversity. Although recent advancements have enabled the generation of precise and high-quality human motions from text, achieving diversity in the generated motions remains a significant challenge. In this paper, we aim to overcome the above challenge by designing a simple yet effective text-to-motion generation method, \textit{i.e.}, Diverse-T2M. Our method introduces uncertainty into the generation process, enabling the generation of highly diverse motions while preserving the semantic consistency of the text. Specifically, we propose a novel perspective that utilizes noise signals as carriers of diversity information in transformer-based methods, facilitating a explicit modeling of uncertainty. Moreover, we construct a latent space where text is projected into a continuous representation, instead of a rigid one-to-one mapping, and integrate a latent space sampler to introduce stochastic sampling into the generation process, thereby enhancing the diversity and uncertainty of the outputs. Our results on text-to-motion generation benchmark datasets~(HumanML3D and KIT-ML) demonstrate that our method significantly enhances diversity while maintaining state-of-the-art performance in text consistency.

HumanSense: From Multimodal Perception to Empathetic Context-Aware Responses through Reasoning MLLMsZheng Qin, Ruobing Zheng, Yabing Wang et al.
While Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) show immense promise for achieving truly human-like interactions, progress is hindered by the lack of fine-grained evaluation frameworks for human-centered scenarios, encompassing both the understanding of complex human intentions and the provision of empathetic, context-aware responses. Here we introduce HumanSense, a comprehensive benchmark designed to evaluate the human-centered perception and interaction capabilities of MLLMs, with a particular focus on deep understanding of extended multimodal contexts and the formulation of rational feedback. Our evaluation reveals that leading MLLMs still have considerable room for improvement, particularly for advanced interaction-oriented tasks. Supplementing visual input with audio and text information yields substantial improvements, and Omni-modal models show advantages on these tasks.Furthermore, grounded in the observation that appropriate feedback stems from a contextual analysis of the interlocutor's needs and emotions, we posit that reasoning ability serves as the key to unlocking it. We devise a multi-stage, modality-progressive reinforcement learning approach, resulting in HumanSense-Omni-Reasoning, which substantially enhances performance on higher-level understanding and interactive tasks. Additionally, we observe that successful reasoning processes appear to exhibit consistent thought patterns. Towards Imperceptible JPEG Image Hiding: Multi-range Representations-driven Adversarial Stego GenerationJunxue Yang, Xin Liao, Weixuan Tang et al.
Image hiding fully explores the hidden potential of deep learning-based models, aiming to conceal image-level messages within cover images and reveal them from stego images to achieve covert communication. Existing hiding schemes are easily detected by the naked eyes or steganalyzers due to the cover type confined to the spatial domain, single-range feature extraction and attacks, and insufficient loss constraints. To address these issues, we propose a multi-range representations-driven adversarial stego generation framework called MRAG for JPEG image hiding. This design stems from the fact that steganalyzers typically combine local-range and global-range information to better capture hidden traces. Specifically, MRAG integrates the local-range characteristic of the convolution and the global-range modeling of the transformer. Meanwhile, a features angle-norm disentanglement loss is designed to launch multi-range representations-driven feature-level adversarial attacks. It computes the adversarial loss between covers and stegos based on the surrogate steganalyzer's classified features, i.e., the features before the last fully connected layer. Under the dual constraints of features angle and norm, MRAG can delicately encode the concatenation of cover and secret into subtle adversarial perturbations from local and global ranges relevant to steganalysis. Therefore, the resulting stego can achieve visual and steganalysis imperceptibility. Moreover, coarse-grained and fine-grained frequency decomposition operations are devised to transform the input, introducing multi-grained information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MRAG can achieve state-of-the-art performance.

PR-DETR: Injecting Position and Relation Prior for Dense Video CaptioningYizhe Li, Sanping Zhou, Zheng Qin et al.
Dense video captioning is a challenging task that aims to localize and caption multiple events in an untrimmed video. Recent studies mainly follow the transformer-based architecture to jointly perform the two sub-tasks, i.e., event localization and caption generation, in an end-to-end manner. Based on the general philosophy of detection transformer, these methods implicitly learn the event locations and event semantics, which requires a large amount of training data and limits the model's performance in practice. In this paper, we propose a novel dense video captioning framework, named PR-DETR, which injects the explicit position and relation prior into the detection transformer to improve the localization accuracy and caption quality, simultaneously. On the one hand, we first generate a set of position-anchored queries to provide the scene-specific position and semantic information about potential events as position prior, which serves as the initial event search regions to eliminate the implausible event proposals. On the other hand, we further design an event relation encoder to explicitly calculate the relationship between event boundaries as relation prior to guide the event interaction to improve the semantic coherence of the captions. Extensive ablation studies are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the position and relation prior. Experimental results also show the competitive performance of our method on ActivityNet Captions and YouCook2 datasets.

RSRNav: Reasoning Spatial Relationship for Image-Goal NavigationZheng Qin, Le Wang, Yabing Wang et al.
Recent image-goal navigation (ImageNav) methods learn a perception-action policy by separately capturing semantic features of the goal and egocentric images, then passing them to a policy network. However, challenges remain: (1) Semantic features often fail to provide accurate directional information, leading to superfluous actions, and (2) performance drops significantly when viewpoint inconsistencies arise between training and application. To address these challenges, we propose RSRNav, a simple yet effective method that reasons spatial relationships between the goal and current observations as navigation guidance. Specifically, we model the spatial relationship by constructing correlations between the goal and current observations, which are then passed to the policy network for action prediction. These correlations are progressively refined using fine-grained cross-correlation and direction-aware correlation for more precise navigation. Extensive evaluation of RSRNav on three benchmark datasets demonstrates superior navigation performance, particularly in the "user-matched goal" setting, highlighting its potential for real-world applications.

Robust Noisy Label Learning via Two-Stream Sample DistillationSihan Bai, Sanping Zhou, Zheng Qin et al.
Noisy label learning aims to learn robust networks under the supervision of noisy labels, which plays a critical role in deep learning. Existing work either conducts sample selection or label correction to deal with noisy labels during the model training process. In this paper, we design a simple yet effective sample selection framework, termed Two-Stream Sample Distillation (TSSD), for noisy label learning, which can extract more high-quality samples with clean labels to improve the robustness of network training. Firstly, a novel Parallel Sample Division (PSD) module is designed to generate a certain training set with sufficient reliable positive and negative samples by jointly considering the sample structure in feature space and the human prior in loss space. Secondly, a novel Meta Sample Purification (MSP) module is further designed to mine adequate semi-hard samples from the remaining uncertain training set by learning a strong meta classifier with extra golden data. As a result, more and more high-quality samples will be distilled from the noisy training set to train networks robustly in every iteration. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets, including CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, Tiny-ImageNet, and Clothing-1M, show that our method has achieved state-of-the-art results over its competitors.

Delocate: Detection and Localization for Deepfake Videos with Randomly-Located Tampered TracesJuan Hu, Xin Liao, Difei Gao et al.
Deepfake videos are becoming increasingly realistic, showing few tampering traces on facial areasthat vary between frames. Consequently, existing Deepfake detection methods struggle to detect unknown domain Deepfake videos while accurately locating the tampered region. To address thislimitation, we propose Delocate, a novel Deepfake detection model that can both recognize andlocalize unknown domain Deepfake videos. Ourmethod consists of two stages named recoveringand localization. In the recovering stage, the modelrandomly masks regions of interest (ROIs) and reconstructs real faces without tampering traces, leading to a relatively good recovery effect for realfaces and a poor recovery effect for fake faces. Inthe localization stage, the output of the recoveryphase and the forgery ground truth mask serve assupervision to guide the forgery localization process. This process strategically emphasizes the recovery phase of fake faces with poor recovery, facilitating the localization of tampered regions. Ourextensive experiments on four widely used benchmark datasets demonstrate that Delocate not onlyexcels in localizing tampered areas but also enhances cross-domain detection performance.

Optimising Stochastic Routing for Taxi Fleets with Model Enhanced Reinforcement LearningShen Ren, Qianxiao Li, Liye Zhang et al.
The future of mobility-as-a-Service (Maas)should embrace an integrated system of ride-hailing, street-hailing and ride-sharing with optimised intelligent vehicle routing in response to a real-time, stochastic demand pattern. We aim to optimise routing policies for a large fleet of vehicles for street-hailing services, given a stochastic demand pattern in small to medium-sized road networks. A model-based dispatch algorithm, a high performance model-free reinforcement learning based algorithm and a novel hybrid algorithm combining the benefits of both the top-down approach and the model-free reinforcement learning have been proposed to route the \emph{vacant} vehicles. We design our reinforcement learning based routing algorithm using proximal policy optimisation and combined intrinsic and extrinsic rewards to strike a balance between exploration and exploitation. Using a large-scale agent-based microscopic simulation platform to evaluate our proposed algorithms, our model-free reinforcement learning and hybrid algorithm show excellent performance on both artificial road network and community-based Singapore road network with empirical demands, and our hybrid algorithm can significantly accelerate the model-free learner in the process of learning.

Implicit feedback data is extensively explored in recommendation as it is easy to collect and generally applicable. However, predicting users' preference on implicit feedback data is a challenging task since we can only observe positive (voted) samples and unvoted samples. It is difficult to distinguish between the negative samples and unlabeled positive samples from the unvoted ones. Existing works, such as Bayesian Personalized Ranking (BPR), sample unvoted items as negative samples uniformly, therefore suffer from a critical noisy-label issue. To address this gap, we design an adaptive sampler based on noisy-label robust learning for implicit feedback data. To formulate the issue, we first introduce Bayesian Point-wise Optimization (BPO) to learn a model, e.g., Matrix Factorization (MF), by maximum likelihood estimation. We predict users' preferences with the model and learn it by maximizing likelihood of observed data labels, i.e., a user prefers her positive samples and has no interests in her unvoted samples. However, in reality, a user may have interests in some of her unvoted samples, which are indeed positive samples mislabeled as negative ones. We then consider the risk of these noisy labels, and propose a Noisy-label Robust BPO (NBPO). NBPO also maximizes the observation likelihood while connects users' preference and observed labels by the likelihood of label flipping based on the Bayes' theorem. In NBPO, a user prefers her true positive samples and shows no interests in her true negative samples, hence the optimization quality is dramatically improved. Extensive experiments on two public real-world datasets show the significant improvement of our proposed optimization methods.

Semi-supervised Collaborative Filtering by Text-enhanced Domain AdaptationWenhui Yu, Xiao Lin, Junfeng Ge et al.
Data sparsity is an inherent challenge in the recommender systems, where most of the data is collected from the implicit feedbacks of users. This causes two difficulties in designing effective algorithms: first, the majority of users only have a few interactions with the system and there is no enough data for learning; second, there are no negative samples in the implicit feedbacks and it is a common practice to perform negative sampling to generate negative samples. However, this leads to a consequence that many potential positive samples are mislabeled as negative ones and data sparsity would exacerbate the mislabeling problem. To solve these difficulties, we regard the problem of recommendation on sparse implicit feedbacks as a semi-supervised learning task, and explore domain adaption to solve it. We transfer the knowledge learned from dense data to sparse data and we focus on the most challenging case -- there is no user or item overlap. In this extreme case, aligning embeddings of two datasets directly is rather sub-optimal since the two latent spaces encode very different information. As such, we adopt domain-invariant textual features as the anchor points to align the latent spaces. To align the embeddings, we extract the textual features for each user and item and feed them into a domain classifier with the embeddings of users and items. The embeddings are trained to puzzle the classifier and textual features are fixed as anchor points. By domain adaptation, the distribution pattern in the source domain is transferred to the target domain. As the target part can be supervised by domain adaptation, we abandon negative sampling in target dataset to avoid label noise. We adopt three pairs of real-world datasets to validate the effectiveness of our transfer strategy. Results show that our models outperform existing models significantly.

To enhance the performance of the recommender system, side information is extensively explored with various features (e.g., visual features and textual features). However, there are some demerits of side information: (1) the extra data is not always available in all recommendation tasks; (2) it is only for items, there is seldom high-level feature describing users. To address these gaps, we introduce the spectral features extracted from two hypergraph structures of the purchase records. Spectral features describe the \textit{similarity} of users/items in the graph space, which is critical for recommendation. We leverage spectral features to model the users' preference and items' properties by incorporating them into a Matrix Factorization (MF) model. In addition to modeling, we also use spectral features to optimize. Bayesian Personalized Ranking (BPR) is extensively leveraged to optimize models in implicit feedback data. However, in BPR, all missing values are regarded as negative samples equally while many of them are indeed unseen positive ones. We enrich the positive samples by calculating the similarity among users/items by the spectral features. The key ideas are: (1) similar users shall have similar preference on the same item; (2) a user shall have similar perception on similar items. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate the usefulness of the spectral features and the effectiveness of our spectrum-enhanced pairwise optimization. Our models outperform several state-of-the-art models significantly.

Visually-aware Recommendation with Aesthetic FeaturesWenhui Yu, Xiangnan He, Jian Pei et al.
Visual information plays a critical role in human decision-making process. While recent developments on visually-aware recommender systems have taken the product image into account, none of them has considered the aesthetic aspect. We argue that the aesthetic factor is very important in modeling and predicting users' preferences, especially for some fashion-related domains like clothing and jewelry. This work addresses the need of modeling aesthetic information in visually-aware recommender systems. Technically speaking, we make three key contributions in leveraging deep aesthetic features: (1) To describe the aesthetics of products, we introduce the aesthetic features extracted from product images by a deep aesthetic network. We incorporate these features into recommender system to model users' preferences in the aesthetic aspect. (2) Since in clothing recommendation, time is very important for users to make decision, we design a new tensor decomposition model for implicit feedback data. The aesthetic features are then injected to the basic tensor model to capture the temporal dynamics of aesthetic preferences (e.g., seasonal patterns). (3) We also use the aesthetic features to optimize the learning strategy on implicit feedback data. We enrich the pairwise training samples by considering the similarity among items in the visual space and graph space; the key idea is that a user may likely have similar perception on similar items. We perform extensive experiments on several real-world datasets and demonstrate the usefulness of aesthetic features and the effectiveness of our proposed methods.

Recently, product images have gained increasing attention in clothing recommendation since the visual appearance of clothing products has a significant impact on consumers' decision. Most existing methods rely on conventional features to represent an image, such as the visual features extracted by convolutional neural networks (CNN features) and the scale-invariant feature transform algorithm (SIFT features), color histograms, and so on. Nevertheless, one important type of features, the \emph{aesthetic features}, is seldom considered. It plays a vital role in clothing recommendation since a users' decision depends largely on whether the clothing is in line with her aesthetics, however the conventional image features cannot portray this directly. To bridge this gap, we propose to introduce the aesthetic information, which is highly relevant with user preference, into clothing recommender systems. To achieve this, we first present the aesthetic features extracted by a pre-trained neural network, which is a brain-inspired deep structure trained for the aesthetic assessment task. Considering that the aesthetic preference varies significantly from user to user and by time, we then propose a new tensor factorization model to incorporate the aesthetic features in a personalized manner. We conduct extensive experiments on real-world datasets, which demonstrate that our approach can capture the aesthetic preference of users and significantly outperform several state-of-the-art recommendation methods.

Loss Rank Mining: A General Hard Example Mining Method for Real-time DetectorsHao Yu, Zhaoning Zhang, Zheng Qin et al.
Modern object detectors usually suffer from low accuracy issues, as foregrounds always drown in tons of backgrounds and become hard examples during training. Compared with those proposal-based ones, real-time detectors are in far more serious trouble since they renounce the use of region-proposing stage which is used to filter a majority of backgrounds for achieving real-time rates. Though foregrounds as hard examples are in urgent need of being mined from tons of backgrounds, a considerable number of state-of-the-art real-time detectors, like YOLO series, have yet to profit from existing hard example mining methods, as using these methods need detectors fit series of prerequisites. In this paper, we propose a general hard example mining method named Loss Rank Mining (LRM) to fill the gap. LRM is a general method for real-time detectors, as it utilizes the final feature map which exists in all real-time detectors to mine hard examples. By using LRM, some elements representing easy examples in final feature map are filtered and detectors are forced to concentrate on hard examples during training. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our method. With our method, the improvements of YOLOv2 detector on auto-driving related dataset KITTI and more general dataset PASCAL VOC are over 5% and 2% mAP, respectively. In addition, LRM is the first hard example mining strategy which could fit YOLOv2 perfectly and make it better applied in series of real scenarios where both real-time rates and accurate detection are strongly demanded.

Diagonalwise Refactorization: An Efficient Training Method for Depthwise ConvolutionsZheng Qin, Zhaoning Zhang, Dongsheng Li et al.
Depthwise convolutions provide significant performance benefits owing to the reduction in both parameters and mult-adds. However, training depthwise convolution layers with GPUs is slow in current deep learning frameworks because their implementations cannot fully utilize the GPU capacity. To address this problem, in this paper we present an efficient method (called diagonalwise refactorization) for accelerating the training of depthwise convolution layers. Our key idea is to rearrange the weight vectors of a depthwise convolution into a large diagonal weight matrix so as to convert the depthwise convolution into one single standard convolution, which is well supported by the cuDNN library that is highly-optimized for GPU computations. We have implemented our training method in five popular deep learning frameworks. Evaluation results show that our proposed method gains $15.4\times$ training speedup on Darknet, $8.4\times$ on Caffe, $5.4\times$ on PyTorch, $3.5\times$ on MXNet, and $1.4\times$ on TensorFlow, compared to their original implementations of depthwise convolutions.

Merging and Evolution: Improving Convolutional Neural Networks for Mobile ApplicationsZheng Qin, Zhaoning Zhang, Shiqing Zhang et al.
Compact neural networks are inclined to exploit "sparsely-connected" convolutions such as depthwise convolution and group convolution for employment in mobile applications. Compared with standard "fully-connected" convolutions, these convolutions are more computationally economical. However, "sparsely-connected" convolutions block the inter-group information exchange, which induces severe performance degradation. To address this issue, we present two novel operations named merging and evolution to leverage the inter-group information. Our key idea is encoding the inter-group information with a narrow feature map, then combining the generated features with the original network for better representation. Taking advantage of the proposed operations, we then introduce the Merging-and-Evolution (ME) module, an architectural unit specifically designed for compact networks. Finally, we propose a family of compact neural networks called MENet based on ME modules. Extensive experiments on ILSVRC 2012 dataset and PASCAL VOC 2007 dataset demonstrate that MENet consistently outperforms other state-of-the-art compact networks under different computational budgets. For instance, under the computational budget of 140 MFLOPs, MENet surpasses ShuffleNet by 1% and MobileNet by 1.95% on ILSVRC 2012 top-1 accuracy, while by 2.3% and 4.1% on PASCAL VOC 2007 mAP, respectively.

FD-MobileNet: Improved MobileNet with a Fast Downsampling StrategyZheng Qin, Zhaoning Zhang, Xiaotao Chen et al.
We present Fast-Downsampling MobileNet (FD-MobileNet), an efficient and accurate network for very limited computational budgets (e.g., 10-140 MFLOPs). Our key idea is applying an aggressive downsampling strategy to MobileNet framework. In FD-MobileNet, we perform 32$\times$ downsampling within 12 layers, only half the layers in the original MobileNet. This design brings three advantages: (i) It remarkably reduces the computational cost. (ii) It increases the information capacity and achieves significant performance improvements. (iii) It is engineering-friendly and provides fast actual inference speed. Experiments on ILSVRC 2012 and PASCAL VOC 2007 datasets demonstrate that FD-MobileNet consistently outperforms MobileNet and achieves comparable results with ShuffleNet under different computational budgets, for instance, surpassing MobileNet by 5.5% on the ILSVRC 2012 top-1 accuracy and 3.6% on the VOC 2007 mAP under a complexity of 12 MFLOPs. On an ARM-based device, FD-MobileNet achieves 1.11$\times$ inference speedup over MobileNet and 1.82$\times$ over ShuffleNet under the same complexity.

Images account for a significant part of user decisions in many application scenarios, such as product images in e-commerce, or user image posts in social networks. It is intuitive that user preferences on the visual patterns of image (e.g., hue, texture, color, etc) can be highly personalized, and this provides us with highly discriminative features to make personalized recommendations. Previous work that takes advantage of images for recommendation usually transforms the images into latent representation vectors, which are adopted by a recommendation component to assist personalized user/item profiling and recommendation. However, such vectors are hardly useful in terms of providing visual explanations to users about why a particular item is recommended, and thus weakens the explainability of recommendation systems. As a step towards explainable recommendation models, we propose visually explainable recommendation based on attentive neural networks to model the user attention on images, under the supervision of both implicit feedback and textual reviews. By this, we can not only provide recommendation results to the users, but also tell the users why an item is recommended by providing intuitive visual highlights in a personalized manner. Experimental results show that our models are not only able to improve the recommendation performance, but also can provide persuasive visual explanations for the users to take the recommendations.
