Explicit World Models for Reliable Human-Robot CollaborationKenneth Kwok, Basura Fernando, Qianli Xu et al.
This paper addresses the topic of robustness under sensing noise, ambiguous instructions, and human-robot interaction. We take a radically different tack to the issue of reliable embodied AI: instead of focusing on formal verification methods aimed at achieving model predictability and robustness, we emphasise the dynamic, ambiguous and subjective nature of human-robot interactions that requires embodied AI systems to perceive, interpret, and respond to human intentions in a manner that is consistent, comprehensible and aligned with human expectations. We argue that when embodied agents operate in human environments that are inherently social, multimodal, and fluid, reliability is contextually determined and only has meaning in relation to the goals and expectations of humans involved in the interaction. This calls for a fundamentally different approach to achieving reliable embodied AI that is centred on building and updating an accessible "explicit world model" representing the common ground between human and AI, that is used to align robot behaviours with human expectations.

Ges3ViG: Incorporating Pointing Gestures into Language-Based 3D Visual Grounding for Embodied Reference UnderstandingAtharv Mahesh Mane, Dulanga Weerakoon, Vigneshwaran Subbaraju et al.
3-Dimensional Embodied Reference Understanding (3D-ERU) combines a language description and an accompanying pointing gesture to identify the most relevant target object in a 3D scene. Although prior work has explored pure language-based 3D grounding, there has been limited exploration of 3D-ERU, which also incorporates human pointing gestures. To address this gap, we introduce a data augmentation framework-Imputer, and use it to curate a new benchmark dataset-ImputeRefer for 3D-ERU, by incorporating human pointing gestures into existing 3D scene datasets that only contain language instructions. We also propose Ges3ViG, a novel model for 3D-ERU that achieves ~30% improvement in accuracy as compared to other 3D-ERU models and ~9% compared to other purely language-based 3D grounding models. This paper presents a two-year research project focused on developing AI-driven measures to analyze classroom dynamics, with particular emphasis on teacher actions captured through multimodal sensor data. We applied real-time data from classroom sensors and AI techniques to extract meaningful insights and support teacher development. Key outcomes include a curated audio-visual dataset, novel behavioral measures, and a proof-of-concept teaching review dashboard. An initial evaluation with eight researchers from the National Institute for Education (NIE) highlighted the system's clarity, usability, and its non-judgmental, automated analysis approach -- which reduces manual workloads and encourages constructive reflection. Although the current version does not assign performance ratings, it provides an objective snapshot of in-class interactions, helping teachers recognize and improve their instructional strategies. Designed and tested in an Asian educational context, this work also contributes a culturally grounded methodology to the growing field of AI-based educational analytics.
