Differentiable Efficient Operator SearchXiaohuan Pei, Jiyuan Zhang, Yuanfan Guo et al.
Efficient multimodal foundation models often rely on manually designed token-reduction operators, such as pruning, merging, pooling, and adaptive reweighting. Although these operators appear different, we show that they can be interpreted as distinct regimes of a shared operator space. Based on this view, we introduce Efficient Operator Search, a differentiable framework that jointly searches where to reduce tokens, how many tokens to retain, and how reduced token information should be processed. The proposed search space parameterizes layer activation, retention budget, and operator behavior, while the search policy optimizes task performance under one-sided budget and cost constraints. This formulation recovers representative hand-designed baselines as special cases and further discovers hybrid operators beyond isolated manual designs. Experiments on multimodal benchmarks show that the searched operators achieve competitive accuracy-efficiency trade-offs, especially under aggressive visual-token reduction. These results suggest that efficient multimodal inference can be reframed from manual operator design to differentiable operator search.

Target-Oriented Pretraining Data Selection via Neuron-Activated GraphZijun Wang, Haoqin Tu, Weidong Zhou et al.
Everyday tasks come with a target, and pretraining models around this target is what turns them into experts. In this paper, we study target-oriented language model (LM) pretraining by introducing Neuron-Activated Graph Ranking (NAG-based Ranking), a training-free and interpretable framework for target pretraining data selection. Rather than using black-box representations, our approach directly characterizes each target input by a sparse set of high-impact neurons in any off-the-shelf LLMs. Concretely, we quantify neuron impact and select the most influential neurons across layers into a compact Neuron-Activated Graph (NAG), and rank candidate data by NAG similarity to target examples. We conduct experiments across six benchmarks, where our NAG-based Ranking improves target-oriented pretraining by 4.9% on average over random sampling, and also outperforms state-of-the-art baselines by 5.3% accuracy on HellaSwag. It also remains effective under a more applicable multi-target setting, where our best setup surpasses two baselines by 1.1% and 4.1%, respectively. Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive analysis on why and how our NAG works, e.g., deactivating NAG-selected neurons (only 0.12% of all) causes a 23.5% performance collapse, and restricting NAG to the final layer incurs a 4.1% average drop, indicating that NAG captures a sparse "functional backbone" for learning target features. Many-for-Many: Unify the Training of Multiple Video and Image Generation and Manipulation TasksTao Yang, Ruibin Li, Yangming Shi et al.
Diffusion models have shown impressive performance in many visual generation and manipulation tasks. Many existing methods focus on training a model for a specific task, especially, text-to-video (T2V) generation, while many other works focus on finetuning the pretrained T2V model for image-to-video (I2V), video-to-video (V2V), image and video manipulation tasks, etc. However, training a strong T2V foundation model requires a large amount of high-quality annotations, which is very costly. In addition, many existing models can perform only one or several tasks. In this work, we introduce a unified framework, namely many-for-many, which leverages the available training data from many different visual generation and manipulation tasks to train a single model for those different tasks. Specifically, we design a lightweight adapter to unify the different conditions in different tasks, then employ a joint image-video learning strategy to progressively train the model from scratch. Our joint learning leads to a unified visual generation and manipulation model with improved video generation performance. In addition, we introduce depth maps as a condition to help our model better perceive the 3D space in visual generation. Two versions of our model are trained with different model sizes (8B and 2B), each of which can perform more than 10 different tasks. In particular, our 8B model demonstrates highly competitive performance in video generation tasks compared to open-source and even commercial engines. LatentSync: Taming Audio-Conditioned Latent Diffusion Models for Lip Sync with SyncNet SupervisionChunyu Li, Chao Zhang, Weikai Xu et al.
End-to-end audio-conditioned latent diffusion models (LDMs) have been widely adopted for audio-driven portrait animation, demonstrating their effectiveness in generating lifelike and high-resolution talking videos. However, direct application of audio-conditioned LDMs to lip-synchronization (lip-sync) tasks results in suboptimal lip-sync accuracy. Through an in-depth analysis, we identified the underlying cause as the "shortcut learning problem", wherein the model predominantly learns visual-visual shortcuts while neglecting the critical audio-visual correlations. To address this issue, we explored different approaches for integrating SyncNet supervision into audio-conditioned LDMs to explicitly enforce the learning of audio-visual correlations. Since the performance of SyncNet directly influences the lip-sync accuracy of the supervised model, the training of a well-converged SyncNet becomes crucial. We conducted the first comprehensive empirical studies to identify key factors affecting SyncNet convergence. Based on our analysis, we introduce StableSyncNet, with an architecture designed for stable convergence. Our StableSyncNet achieved a significant improvement in accuracy, increasing from 91% to 94% on the HDTF test set. Additionally, we introduce a novel Temporal Representation Alignment (TREPA) mechanism to enhance temporal consistency in the generated videos. Experimental results show that our method surpasses state-of-the-art lip-sync approaches across various evaluation metrics on the HDTF and VoxCeleb2 datasets.

Text-to-Edit: Controllable End-to-End Video Ad Creation via Multimodal LLMsDabing Cheng, Haosen Zhan, Xingchen Zhao et al.
The exponential growth of short-video content has ignited a surge in the necessity for efficient, automated solutions to video editing, with challenges arising from the need to understand videos and tailor the editing according to user requirements. Addressing this need, we propose an innovative end-to-end foundational framework, ultimately actualizing precise control over the final video content editing. Leveraging the flexibility and generalizability of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), we defined clear input-output mappings for efficient video creation. To bolster the model's capability in processing and comprehending video content, we introduce a strategic combination of a denser frame rate and a slow-fast processing technique, significantly enhancing the extraction and understanding of both temporal and spatial video information. Furthermore, we introduce a text-to-edit mechanism that allows users to achieve desired video outcomes through textual input, thereby enhancing the quality and controllability of the edited videos. Through comprehensive experimentation, our method has not only showcased significant effectiveness within advertising datasets, but also yields universally applicable conclusions on public datasets.

Discriminator-Free Direct Preference Optimization for Video DiffusionHaoran Cheng, Qide Dong, Liang Peng et al.
Direct Preference Optimization (DPO), which aligns models with human preferences through win/lose data pairs, has achieved remarkable success in language and image generation. However, applying DPO to video diffusion models faces critical challenges: (1) Data inefficiency. Generating thousands of videos per DPO iteration incurs prohibitive costs; (2) Evaluation uncertainty. Human annotations suffer from subjective bias, and automated discriminators fail to detect subtle temporal artifacts like flickering or motion incoherence. To address these, we propose a discriminator-free video DPO framework that: (1) Uses original real videos as win cases and their edited versions (e.g., reversed, shuffled, or noise-corrupted clips) as lose cases; (2) Trains video diffusion models to distinguish and avoid artifacts introduced by editing. This approach eliminates the need for costly synthetic video comparisons, provides unambiguous quality signals, and enables unlimited training data expansion through simple editing operations. We theoretically prove the framework's effectiveness even when real videos and model-generated videos follow different distributions. Experiments on CogVideoX demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.
