ALUM: Adversarial Data Uncertainty Modeling from Latent Model Uncertainty CompensationWei Wei, Jiahuan Zhou, Hongze Li et al. · pku
It is critical that the models pay attention not only to accuracy but also to the certainty of prediction. Uncertain predictions of deep models caused by noisy data raise significant concerns in trustworthy AI areas. To explore and handle uncertainty due to intrinsic data noise, we propose a novel method called ALUM to simultaneously handle the model uncertainty and data uncertainty in a unified scheme. Rather than solely modeling data uncertainty in the ultimate layer of a deep model based on randomly selected training data, we propose to explore mined adversarial triplets to facilitate data uncertainty modeling and non-parametric uncertainty estimations to compensate for the insufficiently trained latent model layers. Thus, the critical data uncertainty and model uncertainty caused by noisy data can be readily quantified for improving model robustness. Our proposed ALUM is model-agnostic which can be easily implemented into any existing deep model with little extra computation overhead. Dual Clustering Co-teaching with Consistent Sample Mining for Unsupervised Person Re-IdentificationZeqi Chen, Zhichao Cui, Chi Zhang et al. · pku
In unsupervised person Re-ID, peer-teaching strategy leveraging two networks to facilitate training has been proven to be an effective method to deal with the pseudo label noise. However, training two networks with a set of noisy pseudo labels reduces the complementarity of the two networks and results in label noise accumulation. To handle this issue, this paper proposes a novel Dual Clustering Co-teaching (DCCT) approach. DCCT mainly exploits the features extracted by two networks to generate two sets of pseudo labels separately by clustering with different parameters. Each network is trained with the pseudo labels generated by its peer network, which can increase the complementarity of the two networks to reduce the impact of noises. Furthermore, we propose dual clustering with dynamic parameters (DCDP) to make the network adaptive and robust to dynamically changing clustering parameters. Moreover, Consistent Sample Mining (CSM) is proposed to find the samples with unchanged pseudo labels during training for potential noisy sample removal. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which outperforms the state-of-the-art unsupervised person Re-ID methods by a considerable margin and surpasses most methods utilizing camera information.

Perceptual-Distortion Balanced Image Super-Resolution is a Multi-Objective Optimization ProblemQiwen Zhu, Yanjie Wang, Shilv Cai et al.
Training Single-Image Super-Resolution (SISR) models using pixel-based regression losses can achieve high distortion metrics scores (e.g., PSNR and SSIM), but often results in blurry images due to insufficient recovery of high-frequency details. Conversely, using GAN or perceptual losses can produce sharp images with high perceptual metric scores (e.g., LPIPS), but may introduce artifacts and incorrect textures. Balancing these two types of losses can help achieve a trade-off between distortion and perception, but the challenge lies in tuning the loss function weights. To address this issue, we propose a novel method that incorporates Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) into the training process of SISR models to balance perceptual quality and distortion. We conceptualize the relationship between loss weights and image quality assessment (IQA) metrics as black-box objective functions to be optimized within our Multi-Objective Bayesian Optimization Super-Resolution (MOBOSR) framework. This approach automates the hyperparameter tuning process, reduces overall computational cost, and enables the use of numerous loss functions simultaneously. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MOBOSR outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of both perceptual quality and distortion, significantly advancing the perception-distortion Pareto frontier. Our work points towards a new direction for future research on balancing perceptual quality and fidelity in nearly all image restoration tasks. RS-SSM: Refining Forgotten Specifics in State Space Model for Video Semantic SegmentationKai Zhu, Zhenyu Cui, Zehua Zang et al.
Recently, state space models have demonstrated efficient video segmentation through linear-complexity state space compression. However, Video Semantic Segmentation (VSS) requires pixel-level spatiotemporal modeling capabilities to maintain temporal consistency in segmentation of semantic objects. While state space models can preserve common semantic information during state space compression, the fixed-size state space inevitably forgets specific information, which limits the models' capability for pixel-level segmentation. To tackle the above issue, we proposed a Refining Specifics State Space Model approach (RS-SSM) for video semantic segmentation, which performs complementary refining of forgotten spatiotemporal specifics. Specifically, a Channel-wise Amplitude Perceptron (CwAP) is designed to extract and align the distribution characteristics of specific information in the state space. Besides, a Forgetting Gate Information Refiner (FGIR) is proposed to adaptively invert and refine the forgetting gate matrix in the state space model based on the specific information distribution. Consequently, our RS-SSM leverages the inverted forgetting gate to complementarily refine the specific information forgotten during state space compression, thereby enhancing the model's capability for spatiotemporal pixel-level segmentation. Extensive experiments on four VSS benchmarks demonstrate that our RS-SSM achieves state-of-the-art performance while maintaining high computational efficiency. Vision-Language Attribute Disentanglement and Reinforcement for Lifelong Person Re-IdentificationKunlun Xu, Haotong Cheng, Jiangmeng Li et al.
Lifelong person re-identification (LReID) aims to learn from varying domains to obtain a unified person retrieval model. Existing LReID approaches typically focus on learning from scratch or a visual classification-pretrained model, while the Vision-Language Model (VLM) has shown generalizable knowledge in a variety of tasks. Although existing methods can be directly adapted to the VLM, since they only consider global-aware learning, the fine-grained attribute knowledge is underleveraged, leading to limited acquisition and anti-forgetting capacity. To address this problem, we introduce a novel VLM-driven LReID approach named Vision-Language Attribute Disentanglement and Reinforcement (VLADR). Our key idea is to explicitly model the universally shared human attributes to improve inter-domain knowledge transfer, thereby effectively utilizing historical knowledge to reinforce new knowledge learning and alleviate forgetting. Specifically, VLADR includes a Multi-grain Text Attribute Disentanglement mechanism that mines the global and diverse local text attributes of an image. Then, an Inter-domain Cross-modal Attribute Reinforcement scheme is developed, which introduces cross-modal attribute alignment to guide visual attribute extraction and adopts inter-domain attribute alignment to achieve fine-grained knowledge transfer. Experimental results demonstrate that our VLADR outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by 1.9\%-2.2\% and 2.1\%-2.5\% on anti-forgetting and generalization capacity. Test-Time Perturbation Learning with Delayed Feedback for Vision-Language-Action ModelsZehua Zang, Xi Wang, Fuchun Sun et al.
Vision-Language-Action models (VLAs) achieve remarkable performance in sequential decision-making but remain fragile to subtle environmental shifts, such as small changes in object pose. We attribute this brittleness to trajectory overfitting, where VLAs over-attend to the spurious correlation between actions and entities, then reproduce memorized action patterns. We propose Perturbation learning with Delayed Feedback (PDF), a verifier-free test-time adaptation framework that improves decision performance without fine-tuning the base model. PDF mitigates the spurious correlation through uncertainty-based data augmentation and action voting, while an adaptive scheduler allocates augmentation budgets to balance performance and efficiency. To further improve stability, PDF learns a lightweight perturbation module that retrospectively adjusts action logits guided by delayed feedback, correcting overconfidence issue. Experiments on LIBERO (+7.4\% success rate) and Atari (+10.3 human normalized score) demonstrate consistent gains of PDF in task success over vanilla VLA and VLA with test-time adaptation, establishing a practical path toward reliable test-time adaptation in multimodal decision-making agents. A Grammatical Compositional Model for Video Action DetectionZhijun Zhang, Xu Zou, Jiahuan Zhou et al. · pku
Analysis of human actions in videos demands understanding complex human dynamics, as well as the interaction between actors and context. However, these interaction relationships usually exhibit large intra-class variations from diverse human poses or object manipulations, and fine-grained inter-class differences between similar actions. Thus the performance of existing methods is severely limited. Motivated by the observation that interactive actions can be decomposed into actor dynamics and participating objects or humans, we propose to investigate the composite property of them. In this paper, we present a novel Grammatical Compositional Model (GCM) for action detection based on typical And-Or graphs. Our model exploits the intrinsic structures and latent relationships of actions in a hierarchical manner to harness both the compositionality of grammar models and the capability of expressing rich features of DNNs. The proposed model can be readily embodied into a neural network module for efficient optimization in an end-to-end manner. Extensive experiments are conducted on the AVA dataset and the Something-Else task to demonstrate the superiority of our model, meanwhile the interpretability is enhanced through an inference parsing procedure.

Beyond Empirical Risk Minimization: Local Structure Preserving Regularization for Improving Adversarial RobustnessWei Wei, Jiahuan Zhou, Ying Wu · pku
It is broadly known that deep neural networks are susceptible to being fooled by adversarial examples with perturbations imperceptible by humans. Various defenses have been proposed to improve adversarial robustness, among which adversarial training methods are most effective. However, most of these methods treat the training samples independently and demand a tremendous amount of samples to train a robust network, while ignoring the latent structural information among these samples. In this work, we propose a novel Local Structure Preserving (LSP) regularization, which aims to preserve the local structure of the input space in the learned embedding space. In this manner, the attacking effect of adversarial samples lying in the vicinity of clean samples can be alleviated. We show strong empirical evidence that with or without adversarial training, our method consistently improves the performance of adversarial robustness on several image classification datasets compared to the baselines and some state-of-the-art approaches, thus providing promising direction for future research.

DASK: Distribution Rehearsing via Adaptive Style Kernel Learning for Exemplar-Free Lifelong Person Re-IdentificationKunlun Xu, Chenghao Jiang, Peixi Xiong et al.
Lifelong person re-identification (LReID) is an important but challenging task that suffers from catastrophic forgetting due to significant domain gaps between training steps. Existing LReID approaches typically rely on data replay and knowledge distillation to mitigate this issue. However, data replay methods compromise data privacy by storing historical exemplars, while knowledge distillation methods suffer from limited performance due to the cumulative forgetting of undistilled knowledge. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel paradigm that models and rehearses the distribution of the old domains to enhance knowledge consolidation during the new data learning, possessing a strong anti-forgetting capacity without storing any exemplars. Specifically, we introduce an exemplar-free LReID method called Distribution Rehearsing via Adaptive Style Kernel Learning (DASK). DASK includes a Distribution Rehearser Learning (DRL) mechanism that learns to transform arbitrary distribution data into the current data style at each learning step. To enhance the style transfer capacity of DRL, an Adaptive Kernel Prediction Network (AKPNet) is explored to achieve an instance-specific distribution adjustment. Additionally, we design a Distribution Rehearsing-driven LReID Training (DRRT) module, which rehearses old distribution based on the new data via the old AKPNet model, achieving effective new-old knowledge accumulation under a joint knowledge consolidation scheme. Experimental results show our DASK outperforms the existing methods by 3.6%-6.8% and 4.5%-6.5% on anti-forgetting and generalization capacity, respectively. STOP: Integrated Spatial-Temporal Dynamic Prompting for Video UnderstandingZichen Liu, Kunlun Xu, Bing Su et al.
Pre-trained on tremendous image-text pairs, vision-language models like CLIP have demonstrated promising zero-shot generalization across numerous image-based tasks. However, extending these capabilities to video tasks remains challenging due to limited labeled video data and high training costs. Recent video prompting methods attempt to adapt CLIP for video tasks by introducing learnable prompts, but they typically rely on a single static prompt for all video sequences, overlooking the diverse temporal dynamics and spatial variations that exist across frames. This limitation significantly hinders the model's ability to capture essential temporal information for effective video understanding. To address this, we propose an integrated Spatial-TempOral dynamic Prompting (STOP) model which consists of two complementary modules, the intra-frame spatial prompting and inter-frame temporal prompting. Our intra-frame spatial prompts are designed to adaptively highlight discriminative regions within each frame by leveraging intra-frame attention and temporal variation, allowing the model to focus on areas with substantial temporal dynamics and capture fine-grained spatial details. Additionally, to highlight the varying importance of frames for video understanding, we further introduce inter-frame temporal prompts, dynamically inserting prompts between frames with high temporal variance as measured by frame similarity. This enables the model to prioritize key frames and enhances its capacity to understand temporal dependencies across sequences. Extensive experiments on various video benchmarks demonstrate that STOP consistently achieves superior performance against state-of-the-art methods. CAMD: Coverage-Aware Multimodal Decoding for Efficient Reasoning of Multimodal Large Language ModelsHuijie Guo, Jingyao Wang, Lingyu Si et al.
Recent advances in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown impressive reasoning capabilities across vision-language tasks, yet still face the challenge of compute-difficulty mismatch. Through empirical analyses, we identify that existing decoding methods may waste compute on easy cases while underserving hard ones, affecting both model effectiveness and efficiency. To address this issue, we first develop a theoretical framework that links sampling coverage, instance difficulty, and residual risk. Our analysis reveals that multimodal reasoning exhibits a heavy-tailed difficulty distribution; a small subset of hard or ambiguous samples dominates the residual failure probability. Based on this insight, we propose Coverage-Aware Multimodal Decoding (CAMD), an adaptive inference mechanism that dynamically allocates computation according to estimated uncertainty. CAMD integrates evidence-weighted scoring, posterior coverage estimation, and sequential Bayesian updating to balance efficiency and reliability under a limited token budget. Experiments on various benchmark datasets and baselines demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of our approach.

Towards Generalizable Reasoning: Group Causal Counterfactual Policy Optimization for LLM ReasoningJingyao Wang, Peizheng Guo, Wenwen Qiang et al.
Large language models (LLMs) excel at complex tasks with advances in reasoning capabilities. However, existing reward mechanisms remain tightly coupled to final correctness and pay little attention to the underlying reasoning process: trajectories with sound reasoning but wrong answers receive low credit, while lucky guesses with flawed logic may be highly rewarded, affecting reasoning generalization. From a causal perspective, we interpret multi-candidate reasoning for a fixed question as a family of counterfactual experiments with theoretical supports. Building on this, we propose Group Causal Counterfactual Policy Optimization to explicitly train LLMs to learn generalizable reasoning patterns. It proposes an episodic causal counterfactual reward that jointly captures (i) robustness, encouraging the answer distribution induced by a reasoning step to remain stable under counterfactual perturbations; and (ii) effectiveness, enforcing sufficient variability so that the learned reasoning strategy can transfer across questions. We then construct token-level advantages from this reward and optimize the policy, encouraging LLMs to favor reasoning patterns that are process-valid and counterfactually robust. Extensive experiments on diverse benchmarks demonstrate its advantages.

On the Plasticity and Stability for Post-Training Large Language ModelsWenwen Qiang, Ziyin Gu, Jiahuan Zhou et al.
Training stability remains a critical bottleneck for Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), often manifesting as a trade-off between reasoning plasticity and general capability retention. We identify a root cause as the geometric conflict between plasticity and stability gradients, which leads to destructive interference. Crucially, we argue that deterministic projection methods are suboptimal for GRPO as they overlook the intrinsic stochasticity of group-based gradient estimates. To address this, we propose Probabilistic Conflict Resolution (PCR), a Bayesian framework that models gradients as random variables. PCR dynamically arbitrates conflicts via an uncertainty-aware ``soft projection'' mechanism, optimizing the signal-to-noise ratio. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PCR significantly smooths the training trajectory and achieves superior performance in various reasoning tasks.

Bi-C2R: Bidirectional Continual Compatible Representation for Re-indexing Free Lifelong Person Re-identificationZhenyu Cui, Jiahuan Zhou, Yuxin Peng
Lifelong person Re-IDentification (L-ReID) exploits sequentially collected data to continuously train and update a ReID model, focusing on the overall performance of all data. Its main challenge is to avoid the catastrophic forgetting problem of old knowledge while training on new data. Existing L-ReID methods typically re-extract new features for all historical gallery images for inference after each update, known as "re-indexing". However, historical gallery data typically suffers from direct saving due to the data privacy issue and the high re-indexing costs for large-scale gallery images. As a result, it inevitably leads to incompatible retrieval between query features extracted by the updated model and gallery features extracted by those before the update, greatly impairing the re-identification performance. To tackle the above issue, this paper focuses on a new task called Re-index Free Lifelong person Re-IDentification (RFL-ReID), which requires performing lifelong person re-identification without re-indexing historical gallery images. Therefore, RFL-ReID is more challenging than L-ReID, requiring continuous learning and balancing new and old knowledge in diverse streaming data, and making the features output by the new and old models compatible with each other. To this end, we propose a Bidirectional Continuous Compatible Representation (Bi-C2R) framework to continuously update the gallery features extracted by the old model to perform efficient L-ReID in a compatible manner. We verify our proposed Bi-C2R method through theoretical analysis and extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks, which demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve leading performance on both the introduced RFL-ReID task and the traditional L-ReID task.

Selective Visual Prompting in Vision MambaYifeng Yao, Zichen Liu, Zhenyu Cui et al.
Pre-trained Vision Mamba (Vim) models have demonstrated exceptional performance across various computer vision tasks in a computationally efficient manner, attributed to their unique design of selective state space models. To further extend their applicability to diverse downstream vision tasks, Vim models can be adapted using the efficient fine-tuning technique known as visual prompting. However, existing visual prompting methods are predominantly tailored for Vision Transformer (ViT)-based models that leverage global attention, neglecting the distinctive sequential token-wise compression and propagation characteristics of Vim. Specifically, existing prompt tokens prefixed to the sequence are insufficient to effectively activate the input and forget gates across the entire sequence, hindering the extraction and propagation of discriminative information. To address this limitation, we introduce a novel Selective Visual Prompting (SVP) method specifically for the efficient fine-tuning of Vim. To prevent the loss of discriminative information during state space propagation, SVP employs lightweight selective prompters for token-wise prompt generation, ensuring adaptive activation of the update and forget gates within Mamba blocks to promote discriminative information propagation. Moreover, considering that Vim propagates both shared cross-layer information and specific inner-layer information, we further refine SVP with a dual-path structure: Cross-Prompting and Inner-Prompting. Cross-Prompting utilizes shared parameters across layers, while Inner-Prompting employs distinct parameters, promoting the propagation of both shared and specific information, respectively. Extensive experimental results on various large-scale benchmarks demonstrate that our proposed SVP significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. CAPrompt: Cyclic Prompt Aggregation for Pre-Trained Model Based Class Incremental LearningQiwei Li, Jiahuan Zhou
Recently, prompt tuning methods for pre-trained models have demonstrated promising performance in Class Incremental Learning (CIL). These methods typically involve learning task-specific prompts and predicting the task ID to select the appropriate prompts for inference. However, inaccurate task ID predictions can cause severe inconsistencies between the prompts used during training and inference, leading to knowledge forgetting and performance degradation. Additionally, existing prompt tuning methods rely solely on the pre-trained model to predict task IDs, without fully leveraging the knowledge embedded in the learned prompt parameters, resulting in inferior prediction performance. To address these issues, we propose a novel Cyclic Prompt Aggregation (CAPrompt) method that eliminates the dependency on task ID prediction by cyclically aggregating the knowledge from different prompts. Specifically, rather than predicting task IDs, we introduce an innovative prompt aggregation strategy during both training and inference to overcome prompt inconsistency by utilizing a weighted sum of different prompts. Thorough theoretical analysis demonstrates that under concave conditions, the aggregated prompt achieves lower error compared to selecting a single task-specific prompt. Consequently, we incorporate a concave constraint and a linear constraint to guide prompt learning, ensuring compliance with the concave condition requirement. Furthermore, to fully exploit the prompts and achieve more accurate prompt weights, we develop a cyclic weight prediction strategy. This strategy begins with equal weights for each task and automatically adjusts them to more appropriate values in a cyclical manner. SCAP: Transductive Test-Time Adaptation via Supportive Clique-based Attribute PromptingChenyu Zhang, Kunlun Xu, Zichen Liu et al.
Vision-language models (VLMs) encounter considerable challenges when adapting to domain shifts stemming from changes in data distribution. Test-time adaptation (TTA) has emerged as a promising approach to enhance VLM performance under such conditions. In practice, test data often arrives in batches, leading to increasing interest in the transductive TTA setting. However, existing TTA methods primarily focus on individual test samples, overlooking crucial cross-sample correlations within a batch. While recent ViT-based TTA methods have introduced batch-level adaptation, they remain suboptimal for VLMs due to inadequate integration of the text modality. To address these limitations, we propose a novel transductive TTA framework, Supportive Clique-based Attribute Prompting (SCAP), which effectively combines visual and textual information to enhance adaptation by generating fine-grained attribute prompts across test batches. SCAP first forms supportive cliques of test samples in an unsupervised manner based on visual similarity and learns an attribute prompt for each clique, capturing shared attributes critical for adaptation. For each test sample, SCAP aggregates attribute prompts from its associated cliques, providing enriched contextual information. To ensure adaptability over time, we incorporate a retention module that dynamically updates attribute prompts and their associated attributes as new data arrives. Comprehensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that SCAP outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods, significantly advancing VLM generalization under domain shifts. Componential Prompt-Knowledge Alignment for Domain Incremental LearningKunlun Xu, Xu Zou, Gang Hua et al.
Domain Incremental Learning (DIL) aims to learn from non-stationary data streams across domains while retaining and utilizing past knowledge. Although prompt-based methods effectively store multi-domain knowledge in prompt parameters and obtain advanced performance through cross-domain prompt fusion, we reveal an intrinsic limitation: component-wise misalignment between domain-specific prompts leads to conflicting knowledge integration and degraded predictions. This arises from the random positioning of knowledge components within prompts, where irrelevant component fusion introduces interference.To address this, we propose Componential Prompt-Knowledge Alignment (KA-Prompt), a novel prompt-based DIL method that introduces component-aware prompt-knowledge alignment during training, significantly improving both the learning and inference capacity of the model. KA-Prompt operates in two phases: (1) Initial Componential Structure Configuring, where a set of old prompts containing knowledge relevant to the new domain are mined via greedy search, which is then exploited to initialize new prompts to achieve reusable knowledge transfer and establish intrinsic alignment between new and old prompts. (2) Online Alignment Preservation, which dynamically identifies the target old prompts and applies adaptive componential consistency constraints as new prompts evolve. GAPrompt: Geometry-Aware Point Cloud Prompt for 3D Vision ModelZixiang Ai, Zichen Liu, Yuanhang Lei et al.
Pre-trained 3D vision models have gained significant attention for their promising performance on point cloud data. However, fully fine-tuning these models for downstream tasks is computationally expensive and storage-intensive. Existing parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) approaches, which focus primarily on input token prompting, struggle to achieve competitive performance due to their limited ability to capture the geometric information inherent in point clouds. To address this challenge, we propose a novel Geometry-Aware Point Cloud Prompt (GAPrompt) that leverages geometric cues to enhance the adaptability of 3D vision models. First, we introduce a Point Prompt that serves as an auxiliary input alongside the original point cloud, explicitly guiding the model to capture fine-grained geometric details. Additionally, we present a Point Shift Prompter designed to extract global shape information from the point cloud, enabling instance-specific geometric adjustments at the input level. Moreover, our proposed Prompt Propagation mechanism incorporates the shape information into the model's feature extraction process, further strengthening its ability to capture essential geometric characteristics. Extensive experiments demonstrate that GAPrompt significantly outperforms state-of-the-art PEFT methods and achieves competitive results compared to full fine-tuning on various benchmarks, while utilizing only 2.19% of trainable parameters. Token Coordinated Prompt Attention is Needed for Visual PromptingZichen Liu, Xu Zou, Gang Hua et al.
Visual prompting techniques are widely used to efficiently fine-tune pretrained Vision Transformers (ViT) by learning a small set of shared prompts for all tokens. However, existing methods overlook the unique roles of different tokens in conveying discriminative information and interact with all tokens using the same prompts, thereby limiting the representational capacity of ViT. This often leads to indistinguishable and biased prompt-extracted features, hindering performance. To address this issue, we propose a plug-and-play Token Coordinated Prompt Attention (TCPA) module, which assigns specific coordinated prompts to different tokens for attention-based interactions. Firstly, recognizing the distinct functions of CLS and image tokens-global information aggregation and local feature extraction, we disentangle the prompts into CLS Prompts and Image Prompts, which interact exclusively with CLS tokens and image tokens through attention mechanisms. This enhances their respective discriminative abilities. Furthermore, as different image tokens correspond to distinct image patches and contain diverse information, we employ a matching function to automatically assign coordinated prompts to individual tokens. This enables more precise attention interactions, improving the diversity and representational capacity of the extracted features. Extensive experiments across various benchmarks demonstrate that TCPA significantly enhances the diversity and discriminative power of the extracted features. Self-Reinforcing Prototype Evolution with Dual-Knowledge Cooperation for Semi-Supervised Lifelong Person Re-IdentificationKunlun Xu, Fan Zhuo, Jiangmeng Li et al.
Current lifelong person re-identification (LReID) methods predominantly rely on fully labeled data streams. However, in real-world scenarios where annotation resources are limited, a vast amount of unlabeled data coexists with scarce labeled samples, leading to the Semi-Supervised LReID (Semi-LReID) problem where LReID methods suffer severe performance degradation. Existing LReID methods, even when combined with semi-supervised strategies, suffer from limited long-term adaptation performance due to struggling with the noisy knowledge occurring during unlabeled data utilization. In this paper, we pioneer the investigation of Semi-LReID, introducing a novel Self-Reinforcing Prototype Evolution with Dual-Knowledge Cooperation framework (SPRED). Our key innovation lies in establishing a self-reinforcing cycle between dynamic prototype-guided pseudo-label generation and new-old knowledge collaborative purification to enhance the utilization of unlabeled data. Specifically, learnable identity prototypes are introduced to dynamically capture the identity distributions and generate high-quality pseudo-labels. Then, the dual-knowledge cooperation scheme integrates current model specialization and historical model generalization, refining noisy pseudo-labels. Through this cyclic design, reliable pseudo-labels are progressively mined to improve current-stage learning and ensure positive knowledge propagation over long-term learning. C${}^2$Prompt: Class-aware Client Knowledge Interaction for Federated Continual LearningKunlun Xu, Yibo Feng, Jiangmeng Li et al.
Federated continual learning (FCL) tackles scenarios of learning from continuously emerging task data across distributed clients, where the key challenge lies in addressing both temporal forgetting over time and spatial forgetting simultaneously. Recently, prompt-based FCL methods have shown advanced performance through task-wise prompt communication.In this study, we underscore that the existing prompt-based FCL methods are prone to class-wise knowledge coherence between prompts across clients. The class-wise knowledge coherence includes two aspects: (1) intra-class distribution gap across clients, which degrades the learned semantics across prompts, (2) inter-prompt class-wise relevance, which highlights cross-class knowledge confusion. During prompt communication, insufficient class-wise coherence exacerbates knowledge conflicts among new prompts and induces interference with old prompts, intensifying both spatial and temporal forgetting. To address these issues, we propose a novel Class-aware Client Knowledge Interaction (C${}^2$Prompt) method that explicitly enhances class-wise knowledge coherence during prompt communication. Specifically, a local class distribution compensation mechanism (LCDC) is introduced to reduce intra-class distribution disparities across clients, thereby reinforcing intra-class knowledge consistency. Additionally, a class-aware prompt aggregation scheme (CPA) is designed to alleviate inter-class knowledge confusion by selectively strengthening class-relevant knowledge aggregation. Extensive experiments on multiple FCL benchmarks demonstrate that C${}^2$Prompt achieves state-of-the-art performance. BayesTTA: Continual-Temporal Test-Time Adaptation for Vision-Language Models via Gaussian Discriminant AnalysisShuang Cui, Jinglin Xu, Yi Li et al.
Vision-language models (VLMs) such as CLIP achieve strong zero-shot recognition but degrade significantly under \textit{temporally evolving distribution shifts} common in real-world scenarios (e.g., gradual illumination or seasonal changes). Existing continual test-time adaptation (CTTA) methods are typically built around sudden and severe distribution shifts and neglect temporal continuity, leading to three core defects: limited memory cache restricts long-range distribution modeling, causing catastrophic forgetting; entropy-based confidence becomes unreliable under temporal drift, worsening error accumulation; and static visual representations misalign with evolving inputs. We formalize this practical problem as \textit{Continual-Temporal Test-Time Adaptation (CT-TTA)}, where test distributions evolve gradually over time. To address it, we propose \textit{BayesTTA}, a Bayesian adaptation framework that enforces temporally consistent predictions and dynamically aligns visual representations. Specifically, BayesTTA incrementally estimates class-conditional Gaussian mixture distributions without storing raw data, adaptively selects covariance structures through statistical hypothesis testing, and performs calibrated inference using Gaussian discriminant analysis (GDA). These calibrated predictions supervise self-paced adaptation of normalization layers, ensuring efficient and stable representation alignment. We establish a comprehensive CT-TTA benchmark across four temporally evolving datasets and further evaluate generalization on ten standard TTA datasets. Extensive experiments show that BayesTTA consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving significant gains while maintaining efficiency. Vision Graph Prompting via Semantic Low-Rank DecompositionZixiang Ai, Zichen Liu, Jiahuan Zhou
Vision GNN (ViG) demonstrates superior performance by representing images as graph structures, providing a more natural way to capture irregular semantic patterns beyond traditional grid or sequence-based representations. To efficiently adapt ViG to downstream tasks, parameter-efficient fine-tuning techniques like visual prompting become increasingly essential. However, existing prompting methods are primarily designed for Transformer-based models, neglecting the rich topological relationships among nodes and edges in graph-based representations, limiting their capacity to model complex semantics. In this paper, we propose Vision Graph Prompting (VGP), a novel framework tailored for vision graph structures. Our core insight reveals that semantically connected components in the graph exhibit low-rank properties. Building on this observation, we introduce a semantic low-rank prompting method that decomposes low-rank semantic features and integrates them with prompts on vision graph topologies, capturing both global structural patterns and fine-grained semantic dependencies. Extensive experiments demonstrate our method significantly improves ViG's transfer performance on diverse downstream tasks, achieving results comparable to full fine-tuning while maintaining parameter efficiency. Understanding Token-level Topological Structures in Transformer-based Time Series ForecastingJianqi Zhang, Wenwen Qiang, Jingyao Wang et al.
Transformer-based methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance in time series forecasting (TSF) by capturing positional and semantic topological relationships among input tokens. However, it remains unclear whether existing Transformers fully leverage the intrinsic topological structure among tokens throughout intermediate layers. Through empirical and theoretical analyses, we identify that current Transformer architectures progressively degrade the original positional and semantic topology of input tokens as the network deepens, thus limiting forecasting accuracy. Furthermore, our theoretical results demonstrate that explicitly enforcing preservation of these topological structures within intermediate layers can tighten generalization bounds, leading to improved forecasting performance. Motivated by these insights, we propose the Topology Enhancement Method (TEM), a novel Transformer-based TSF method that explicitly and adaptively preserves token-level topology. TEM consists of two core modules: 1) the Positional Topology Enhancement Module (PTEM), which injects learnable positional constraints to explicitly retain original positional topology; 2) the Semantic Topology Enhancement Module (STEM), which incorporates a learnable similarity matrix to preserve original semantic topology. To determine optimal injection weights adaptively, TEM employs a bi-level optimization strategy. The proposed TEM is a plug-and-play method that can be integrated with existing Transformer-based TSF methods. Extensive experiments demonstrate that integrating TEM with a variety of existing methods significantly improves their predictive performance, validating the effectiveness of explicitly preserving original token-level topology. RotVLA: Rotational Latent Action for Vision-Language-Action ModelQiwei Li, Xicheng Gong, Xinghang Li et al.
Latent Action Models (LAMs) have emerged as an effective paradigm for handling heterogeneous datasets during Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model pretraining, offering a unified action space across embodiments. However, existing LAMs often rely on discrete quantization encode and decode pipelines, which can lead to trivial frame reconstruction behavior, limited representational capacity, and a lack of physically meaningful structure. We introduce RotVLA, a VLA framework built on a continuous rotational latent action representation. Latent actions are modeled as elements of SO(n), providing continuity, compositionality, and structured geometry aligned with real-world action dynamics. A triplet frame learning framework further enforces meaningful temporal dynamics while avoiding degeneration. RotVLA consists of a VLM backbone and a flow-matching action head, pretrained on large-scale cross-embodiment robotic datasets and human videos with latent-action supervision. For downstream robot control, the flow-matching head is extended into a unified action expert that jointly denoises latent and robot actions. Here, latent actions serve as a latent planner, providing high-level guidance that conditions action generation. With only 1.7B parameters and 1700+ hours of pretraining data, RotVLA achieves 98.2% on LIBERO and 89.6% / 88.5% on RoboTwin2.0 under clean and randomized settings, respectively. It also demonstrates strong real-world performance on manipulation tasks, consistently outperforming existing VLA models.

CKDA: Cross-modality Knowledge Disentanglement and Alignment for Visible-Infrared Lifelong Person Re-identificationZhenyu Cui, Jiahuan Zhou, Yuxin Peng
Lifelong person Re-IDentification (LReID) aims to match the same person employing continuously collected individual data from different scenarios. To achieve continuous all-day person matching across day and night, Visible-Infrared Lifelong person Re-IDentification (VI-LReID) focuses on sequential training on data from visible and infrared modalities and pursues average performance over all data. To this end, existing methods typically exploit cross-modal knowledge distillation to alleviate the catastrophic forgetting of old knowledge. However, these methods ignore the mutual interference of modality-specific knowledge acquisition and modality-common knowledge anti-forgetting, where conflicting knowledge leads to collaborative forgetting. To address the above problems, this paper proposes a Cross-modality Knowledge Disentanglement and Alignment method, called CKDA, which explicitly separates and preserves modality-specific knowledge and modality-common knowledge in a balanced way. Specifically, a Modality-Common Prompting (MCP) module and a Modality-Specific Prompting (MSP) module are proposed to explicitly disentangle and purify discriminative information that coexists and is specific to different modalities, avoiding the mutual interference between both knowledge. In addition, a Cross-modal Knowledge Alignment (CKA) module is designed to further align the disentangled new knowledge with the old one in two mutually independent inter- and intra-modality feature spaces based on dual-modality prototypes in a balanced manner. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets verify the effectiveness and superiority of our CKDA against state-of-the-art methods. UPP: Unified Point-Level Prompting for Robust Point Cloud AnalysisZixiang Ai, Zhenyu Cui, Yuxin Peng et al.
Pre-trained point cloud analysis models have shown promising advancements in various downstream tasks, yet their effectiveness is typically suffering from low-quality point cloud (i.e., noise and incompleteness), which is a common issue in real scenarios due to casual object occlusions and unsatisfactory data collected by 3D sensors. To this end, existing methods focus on enhancing point cloud quality by developing dedicated denoising and completion models. However, due to the isolation between the point cloud enhancement and downstream tasks, these methods fail to work in various real-world domains. In addition, the conflicting objectives between denoising and completing tasks further limit the ensemble paradigm to preserve critical geometric features. To tackle the above challenges, we propose a unified point-level prompting method that reformulates point cloud denoising and completion as a prompting mechanism, enabling robust analysis in a parameter-efficient manner. We start by introducing a Rectification Prompter to adapt to noisy points through the predicted rectification vector prompts, effectively filtering noise while preserving intricate geometric features essential for accurate analysis. Sequentially, we further incorporate a Completion Prompter to generate auxiliary point prompts based on the rectified point clouds, facilitating their robustness and adaptability. Finally, a Shape-Aware Unit module is exploited to efficiently unify and capture the filtered geometric features for the downstream point cloud analysis.Extensive experiments on four datasets demonstrate the superiority and robustness of our method when handling noisy and incomplete point cloud data against existing state-of-the-art methods. Make Lossy Compression Meaningful for Low-Light ImagesShilv Cai, Liqun Chen, Sheng Zhong et al.
Low-light images frequently occur due to unavoidable environmental influences or technical limitations, such as insufficient lighting or limited exposure time. To achieve better visibility for visual perception, low-light image enhancement is usually adopted. Besides, lossy image compression is vital for meeting the requirements of storage and transmission in computer vision applications. To touch the above two practical demands, current solutions can be categorized into two sequential manners: ``Compress before Enhance (CbE)'' or ``Enhance before Compress (EbC)''. However, both of them are not suitable since: (1) Error accumulation in the individual models plagues sequential solutions. Especially, once low-light images are compressed by existing general lossy image compression approaches, useful information (e.g., texture details) would be lost resulting in a dramatic performance decrease in low-light image enhancement. (2) Due to the intermediate process, the sequential solution introduces an additional burden resulting in low efficiency. We propose a novel joint solution to simultaneously achieve a high compression rate and good enhancement performance for low-light images with much lower computational cost and fewer model parameters. We design an end-to-end trainable architecture, which includes the main enhancement branch and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) aware branch. Experimental results show that our proposed joint solution achieves a significant improvement over different combinations of existing state-of-the-art sequential ``Compress before Enhance'' or ``Enhance before Compress'' solutions for low-light images, which would make lossy low-light image compression more meaningful. Doubly Debiased Test-Time Prompt Tuning for Vision-Language ModelsFei Song, Yi Li, Rui Wang et al.
Test-time prompt tuning for vision-language models has demonstrated impressive generalization capabilities under zero-shot settings. However, tuning the learnable prompts solely based on unlabeled test data may induce prompt optimization bias, ultimately leading to suboptimal performance on downstream tasks. In this work, we analyze the underlying causes of prompt optimization bias from both the model and data perspectives. In terms of the model, the entropy minimization objective typically focuses on reducing the entropy of model predictions while overlooking their correctness. This can result in overconfident yet incorrect outputs, thereby compromising the quality of prompt optimization. On the data side, prompts affected by optimization bias can introduce misalignment between visual and textual modalities, which further aggravates the prompt optimization bias. To this end, we propose a Doubly Debiased Test-Time Prompt Tuning method. Specifically, we first introduce a dynamic retrieval-augmented modulation module that retrieves high-confidence knowledge from a dynamic knowledge base using the test image feature as a query, and uses the retrieved knowledge to modulate the predictions. Guided by the refined predictions, we further develop a reliability-aware prompt optimization module that incorporates a confidence-based weighted ensemble and cross-modal consistency distillation to impose regularization constraints during prompt tuning. Extensive experiments across 15 benchmark datasets involving both natural distribution shifts and cross-datasets generalization demonstrate that our method outperforms baselines, validating its effectiveness in mitigating prompt optimization bias.

DriveEditor: A Unified 3D Information-Guided Framework for Controllable Object Editing in Driving ScenesYiyuan Liang, Zhiying Yan, Liqun Chen et al.
Vision-centric autonomous driving systems require diverse data for robust training and evaluation, which can be augmented by manipulating object positions and appearances within existing scene captures. While recent advancements in diffusion models have shown promise in video editing, their application to object manipulation in driving scenarios remains challenging due to imprecise positional control and difficulties in preserving high-fidelity object appearances. To address these challenges in position and appearance control, we introduce DriveEditor, a diffusion-based framework for object editing in driving videos. DriveEditor offers a unified framework for comprehensive object editing operations, including repositioning, replacement, deletion, and insertion. These diverse manipulations are all achieved through a shared set of varying inputs, processed by identical position control and appearance maintenance modules. The position control module projects the given 3D bounding box while preserving depth information and hierarchically injects it into the diffusion process, enabling precise control over object position and orientation. The appearance maintenance module preserves consistent attributes with a single reference image by employing a three-tiered approach: low-level detail preservation, high-level semantic maintenance, and the integration of 3D priors from a novel view synthesis model. Extensive qualitative and quantitative evaluations on the nuScenes dataset demonstrate DriveEditor's exceptional fidelity and controllability in generating diverse driving scene edits, as well as its remarkable ability to facilitate downstream tasks. State Space Prompting via Gathering and Spreading Spatio-Temporal Information for Video UnderstandingJiahuan Zhou, Kai Zhu, Zhenyu Cui et al.
Recently, pre-trained state space models have shown great potential for video classification, which sequentially compresses visual tokens in videos with linear complexity, thereby improving the processing efficiency of video data while maintaining high performance. To apply powerful pre-trained models to downstream tasks, prompt learning is proposed to achieve efficient downstream task adaptation with only a small number of fine-tuned parameters. However, the sequentially compressed visual prompt tokens fail to capture the spatial and temporal contextual information in the video, thus limiting the effective propagation of spatial information within a video frame and temporal information between frames in the state compression model and the extraction of discriminative information. To tackle the above issue, we proposed a State Space Prompting (SSP) method for video understanding, which combines intra-frame and inter-frame prompts to aggregate and propagate key spatiotemporal information in the video. Specifically, an Intra-Frame Gathering (IFG) module is designed to aggregate spatial key information within each frame. Besides, an Inter-Frame Spreading (IFS) module is designed to spread discriminative spatio-temporal information across different frames. By adaptively balancing and compressing key spatio-temporal information within and between frames, our SSP effectively propagates discriminative information in videos in a complementary manner. Extensive experiments on four video benchmark datasets verify that our SSP significantly outperforms existing SOTA methods by 2.76% on average while reducing the overhead of fine-tuning parameters.

Incremental Object Keypoint LearningMingfu Liang, Jiahuan Zhou, Xu Zou et al.
Existing progress in object keypoint estimation primarily benefits from the conventional supervised learning paradigm based on numerous data labeled with pre-defined keypoints. However, these well-trained models can hardly detect the undefined new keypoints in test time, which largely hinders their feasibility for diverse downstream tasks. To handle this, various solutions are explored but still suffer from either limited generalizability or transferability. Therefore, in this paper, we explore a novel keypoint learning paradigm in that we only annotate new keypoints in the new data and incrementally train the model, without retaining any old data, called Incremental object Keypoint Learning (IKL). A two-stage learning scheme as a novel baseline tailored to IKL is developed. In the first Knowledge Association stage, given the data labeled with only new keypoints, an auxiliary KA-Net is trained to automatically associate the old keypoints to these new ones based on their spatial and intrinsic anatomical relations. In the second Mutual Promotion stage, based on a keypoint-oriented spatial distillation loss, we jointly leverage the auxiliary KA-Net and the old model for knowledge consolidation to mutually promote the estimation of all old and new keypoints. Owing to the investigation of the correlations between new and old keypoints, our proposed method can not just effectively mitigate the catastrophic forgetting of old keypoints, but may even further improve the estimation of the old ones and achieve a positive transfer beyond anti-forgetting. Such an observation has been solidly verified by extensive experiments on different keypoint datasets, where our method exhibits superiority in alleviating the forgetting issue and boosting performance while enjoying labeling efficiency even under the low-shot data regime.

Class-aware Domain Knowledge Fusion and Fission for Continual Test-Time AdaptationJiahuan Zhou, Chao Zhu, Zhenyu Cui et al.
Continual Test-Time Adaptation (CTTA) aims to quickly fine-tune the model during the test phase so that it can adapt to multiple unknown downstream domain distributions without pre-acquiring downstream domain data. To this end, existing advanced CTTA methods mainly reduce the catastrophic forgetting of historical knowledge caused by irregular switching of downstream domain data by restoring the initial model or reusing historical models. However, these methods are usually accompanied by serious insufficient learning of new knowledge and interference from potentially harmful historical knowledge, resulting in severe performance degradation. To this end, we propose a class-aware domain Knowledge Fusion and Fission method for continual test-time adaptation, called KFF, which adaptively expands and merges class-aware domain knowledge in old and new domains according to the test-time data from different domains, where discriminative historical knowledge can be dynamically accumulated. Specifically, considering the huge domain gap within streaming data, a domain Knowledge FIssion (KFI) module is designed to adaptively separate new domain knowledge from a paired class-aware domain prompt pool, alleviating the impact of negative knowledge brought by old domains that are distinct from the current domain. Besides, to avoid the cumulative computation and storage overheads from continuously fissioning new knowledge, a domain Knowledge FUsion (KFU) module is further designed to merge the fissioned new knowledge into the existing knowledge pool with minimal cost, where a greedy knowledge dynamic merging strategy is designed to improve the compatibility of new and old knowledge while keeping the computational efficiency. Extensive experiments on the ImageNet-C dataset verify the effectiveness of our proposed method against other methods.

Hacking Hallucinations of MLLMs with Causal Sufficiency and NecessityPeizheng Guo, Jingyao Wang, Wenwen Qiang et al.
Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities across vision-language tasks. However, they may suffer from hallucinations--generating outputs that are semantically inconsistent with the input image or text. Through causal analyses, we find that: (i) hallucinations with omission may arise from the failure to adequately capture essential causal factors, and (ii) hallucinations with fabrication are likely caused by the model being misled by non-causal cues. To address these challenges, we propose a novel reinforcement learning framework guided by causal completeness, which jointly considers both causal sufficiency and causal necessity of tokens. Specifically, we evaluate each token's standalone contribution and counterfactual indispensability to define a token-level causal completeness reward. This reward is used to construct a causally informed advantage function within the GRPO optimization framework, encouraging the model to focus on tokens that are both causally sufficient and necessary for accurate generation. Experimental results across various benchmark datasets and tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, which effectively mitigates hallucinations in MLLMs.

Unsupervised Embedding Learning from Uncertainty Momentum ModelingJiahuan Zhou, Yansong Tang, Bing Su et al.
Existing popular unsupervised embedding learning methods focus on enhancing the instance-level local discrimination of the given unlabeled images by exploring various negative data. However, the existed sample outliers which exhibit large intra-class divergences or small inter-class variations severely limit their learning performance. We justify that the performance limitation is caused by the gradient vanishing on these sample outliers. Moreover, the shortage of positive data and disregard for global discrimination consideration also pose critical issues for unsupervised learning but are always ignored by existing methods. To handle these issues, we propose a novel solution to explicitly model and directly explore the uncertainty of the given unlabeled learning samples. Instead of learning a deterministic feature point for each sample in the embedding space, we propose to represent a sample by a stochastic Gaussian with the mean vector depicting its space localization and covariance vector representing the sample uncertainty. We leverage such uncertainty modeling as momentum to the learning which is helpful to tackle the outliers. Furthermore, abundant positive candidates can be readily drawn from the learned instance-specific distributions which are further adopted to mitigate the aforementioned issues. Thorough rationale analyses and extensive experiments are presented to verify our superiority.

Exposing Deep-faked Videos by Anomalous Co-motion Pattern DetectionGengxing Wang, Jiahuan Zhou, Ying Wu
Recent deep learning based video synthesis approaches, in particular with applications that can forge identities such as "DeepFake", have raised great security concerns. Therefore, corresponding deep forensic methods are proposed to tackle this problem. However, existing methods are either based on unexplainable deep networks which greatly degrades the principal interpretability factor to media forensic, or rely on fragile image statistics such as noise pattern, which in real-world scenarios can be easily deteriorated by data compression. In this paper, we propose an fully-interpretable video forensic method that is designed specifically to expose deep-faked videos. To enhance generalizability on videos with various content, we model the temporal motion of multiple specific spatial locations in the videos to extract a robust and reliable representation, called Co-Motion Pattern. Such kind of conjoint pattern is mined across local motion features which is independent of the video contents so that the instance-wise variation can also be largely alleviated. More importantly, our proposed co-motion pattern possesses both superior interpretability and sufficient robustness against data compression for deep-faked videos. We conduct extensive experiments to empirically demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of our approach under both classification and anomaly detection evaluation settings against the state-of-the-art deep forensic methods.

Uncertainty-aware Score Distribution Learning for Action Quality AssessmentYansong Tang, Zanlin Ni, Jiahuan Zhou et al.
Assessing action quality from videos has attracted growing attention in recent years. Most existing approaches usually tackle this problem based on regression algorithms, which ignore the intrinsic ambiguity in the score labels caused by multiple judges or their subjective appraisals. To address this issue, we propose an uncertainty-aware score distribution learning (USDL) approach for action quality assessment (AQA). Specifically, we regard an action as an instance associated with a score distribution, which describes the probability of different evaluated scores. Moreover, under the circumstance where fine-grained score labels are available (e.g., difficulty degree of an action or multiple scores from different judges), we further devise a multi-path uncertainty-aware score distributions learning (MUSDL) method to explore the disentangled components of a score. We conduct experiments on three AQA datasets containing various Olympic actions and surgical activities, where our approaches set new state-of-the-arts under the Spearman's Rank Correlation.
