Semantic and Visual Evidence for Efficient Long-Video Reasoning: A Solution for the HD-EPIC VQA Challenge

Understanding long-form egocentric videos remains challenging for multimodal large language models (MLLMs) due to limited context length and insufficient grounding of fine-grained visual details. The recently proposed HD-EPIC benchmark highlights these limitations: even strong long-context models achieve relatively low performance across diverse video question answering tasks. In this paper, we propose a unified framework that decouples long-video reasoning into two complementary forms of evidence: semantic evidence and visual evidence. Semantic evidence captures global procedural structure through a coarse-to-fine extraction pipeline, while object-centric visual evidence preserves fine-grained grounding through bounding boxes and visual embeddings. During inference, we formulate reasoning as a query-conditioned evidence retrieval and integration process, dynamically selecting relevant information from both sources. Our approach achieves competitive performance in the HD-EPIC-VQA Challenge across multiple task categories. More broadly, our results demonstrate that explicitly structuring, retrieving, and integrating semantic and visual evidence is critical for effective long-video understanding with MLLMs.

EgoIntrospect: An Egocentric Dataset and Benchmark for User-Centric Internal State Reasoning

Despite extensive efforts on egocentric video datasets and benchmarks, understanding users' internal states, which is crucial for enabling seamless AI assistant experiences, remains largely overlooked. In this work, we introduce EgoIntrospect, the first egocentric dataset captured in user-driven scenarios with self-annotations that explicitly reveal users' interactive intentions with AI assistants. EgoIntrospect was collected using a cross-device setup, providing synchronized video, audio, gaze, motion, and physiological signals. It consists of 180 hours of recordings from 60 subjects, with an average recording duration of 3 hours per subject. Leveraging EgoIntrospect, we formalize a suite of tasks centered on user internal states, including affective experience, interactive intent, and cognitive memory. We further process the annotations to construct benchmarks that evaluate the ability of modern multimodal large language models to reason about users' internal states from egocentric observations. Experiments on our benchmark suggest that existing multimodal large language models struggle to effectively leverage multimodal signals to infer users' subjective internal states. HoloBoard: a Large-format Immersive Teaching Board based on pseudo HoloGraphics

In this paper, we present HoloBoard, an interactive large-format pseudo-holographic display system for lecture-based classes. With its unique properties of immersive visual display and transparent screen, we designed and implemented a rich set of novel interaction techniques like immersive presentation, role-play, and lecturing behind the scene that is potentially valuable for lecturing in class. We conducted a controlled experimental study to compare a HoloBoard class with a normal class by measuring students' learning outcomes and three dimensions of engagement (i.e., behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement). We used pre-/post- knowledge tests and multimodal learning analytics to measure students' learning outcomes and learning experiences. Results indicated that the lecture-based class utilizing HoloBoard lead to slightly better learning outcomes and a significantly higher level of student engagement. Given the results, we discussed the impact of HoloBoard as an immersive media in the classroom setting and suggest several design implications for deploying HoloBoard in immersive teaching practices.
