Image-Pointcloud Fusion based Anomaly Detection using PD-REAL Dataset

Jianjian Qin, Chunzhi Gu, Jun Yu et al.

We present PD-REAL, a novel large-scale dataset for unsupervised anomaly detection (AD) in the 3D domain. It is motivated by the fact that 2D-only representations in the AD task may fail to capture the geometric structures of anomalies due to uncertainty in lighting conditions or shooting angles. PD-REAL consists entirely of Play-Doh models for 15 object categories and focuses on the analysis of potential benefits from 3D information in a controlled environment. Specifically, objects are first created with six types of anomalies, such as dent, crack, or perforation, and then photographed under different lighting conditions to mimic real-world inspection scenarios. To demonstrate the usefulness of 3D information, we use a commercially available RealSense camera to capture RGB and depth images. Compared to the existing 3D dataset for AD tasks, the data acquisition of PD-REAL is significantly cheaper, easily scalable and easier to control variables. Extensive evaluations with state-of-the-art AD algorithms on our dataset demonstrate the benefits as well as challenges of using 3D information. Design of an Expression Recognition Solution Based on the Global Channel-Spatial Attention Mechanism and Proportional Criterion Fusion

Jun Yu, Yang Zheng, Lei Wang et al.

Facial expression recognition is a challenging classification task that holds broad application prospects in the field of human-computer interaction. This paper aims to introduce the method we will adopt in the 8th Affective and Behavioral Analysis in the Wild (ABAW) Competition, which will be held during the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) in 2025.First of all, we apply the frequency masking technique and the method of extracting data at equal time intervals to conduct targeted processing on the original videos. Then, based on the residual hybrid convolutional neural network and the multi-branch convolutional neural network respectively, we design feature extraction models for image and audio sequences. In particular, we propose a global channel-spatial attention mechanism to enhance the features initially extracted from both the audio and image modalities respectively. Finally, we adopt a decision fusion strategy based on the proportional criterion to fuse the classification results of the two single modalities, obtain an emotion probability vector, and output the final emotional classification. We also design a coarse - fine granularity loss function to optimize the performance of the entire network, which effectively improves the accuracy of facial expression recognition. In the facial expression recognition task of the 8th ABAW Competition, our method ranked third on the official validation set. This result fully confirms the effectiveness and competitiveness of the method we have proposed.

Compound Expression Recognition via Multi Model Ensemble

Jun Yu, Jichao Zhu, Wangyuan Zhu

Compound Expression Recognition (CER) plays a crucial role in interpersonal interactions. Due to the existence of Compound Expressions , human emotional expressions are complex, requiring consideration of both local and global facial expressions to make judgments. In this paper, to address this issue, we propose a solution based on ensemble learning methods for Compound Expression Recognition. Specifically, our task is classification, where we train three expression classification models based on convolutional networks, Vision Transformers, and multi-scale local attention networks. Then, through model ensemble using late fusion, we merge the outputs of multiple models to predict the final result. Our method achieves high accuracy on RAF-DB and is able to recognize expressions through zero-shot on certain portions of C-EXPR-DB.

Effective degrees of freedom for surface finish defect detection and classification

Natalya Pya Arnqvist, Blaise Ngendangenzwa, Eric Lindahl et al.

One of the primary concerns of product quality control in the automotive industry is an automated detection of defects of small sizes on specular car body surfaces. A new statistical learning approach is presented for surface finish defect detection based on spline smoothing method for feature extraction and $k$-nearest neighbour probabilistic classifier. Since the surfaces are specular, structured lightning reflection technique is applied for image acquisition. Reduced rank cubic regression splines are used to smooth the pixel values while the effective degrees of freedom of the obtained smooths serve as components of the feature vector. A key advantage of the approach is that it allows reaching near zero misclassification error rate when applying standard learning classifiers. We also propose probability based performance evaluation metrics as alternatives to the conventional metrics. The usage of those provides the means for uncertainty estimation of the predictive performance of a classifier. Experimental classification results on the images obtained from the pilot system located at Volvo GTO Cab plant in Umeå, Sweden, show that the proposed approach is much more efficient than the compared methods.

Whole-brain substitute CT generation using Markov random field mixture models

Anders Hildeman, David Bolin, Jonas Wallin et al.

Computed tomography (CT) equivalent information is needed for attenuation correction in PET imaging and for dose planning in radiotherapy. Prior work has shown that Gaussian mixture models can be used to generate a substitute CT (s-CT) image from a specific set of MRI modalities. This work introduces a more flexible class of mixture models for s-CT generation, that incorporates spatial dependency in the data through a Markov random field prior on the latent field of class memberships associated with a mixture model. Furthermore, the mixture distributions are extended from Gaussian to normal inverse Gaussian (NIG), allowing heavier tails and skewness. The amount of data needed to train a model for s-CT generation is of the order of 100 million voxels. The computational efficiency of the parameter estimation and prediction methods are hence paramount, especially when spatial dependency is included in the models. A stochastic Expectation Maximization (EM) gradient algorithm is proposed in order to tackle this challenge. The advantages of the spatial model and NIG distributions are evaluated with a cross-validation study based on data from 14 patients. The study show that the proposed model enhances the predictive quality of the s-CT images by reducing the mean absolute error with 17.9%. Also, the distribution of CT values conditioned on the MR images are better explained by the proposed model as evaluated using continuous ranked probability scores.
