PixelVLA: Advancing Pixel-level Understanding in Vision-Language-Action Model

Vision-Language-Action models (VLAs) are emerging as powerful tools for learning generalizable visuomotor control policies. However, current VLAs are mostly trained on large-scale image-text-action data and remain limited in two key ways: (i) they struggle with pixel-level scene understanding, and (ii) they rely heavily on textual prompts, which reduces their flexibility in real-world settings. To address these challenges, we introduce PixelVLA, the first VLA model designed to support both pixel-level reasoning and multimodal prompting with text and visual inputs. Our approach is built on a new visuomotor instruction tuning framework that integrates a multiscale pixel-aware encoder with a visual prompting encoder. To train PixelVLA effectively, we further propose a two-stage automated annotation pipeline that generates Pixel-160K, a large-scale dataset with pixel-level annotations derived from existing robot data. Experiments on three standard VLA benchmarks and two VLA model variants show that PixelVLA improves manipulation success rates by 10.1%-17.8% over OpenVLA, while requiring only 1.5% of its pretraining cost. These results demonstrate that PixelVLA can be integrated into existing VLAs to enable more accurate, efficient, and versatile robot control in complex environments. The dataset and code will be released as open source.

FIReStereo: Forest InfraRed Stereo Dataset for UAS Depth Perception in Visually Degraded Environments

Robust depth perception in visually-degraded environments is crucial for autonomous aerial systems. Thermal imaging cameras, which capture infrared radiation, are robust to visual degradation. However, due to lack of a large-scale dataset, the use of thermal cameras for unmanned aerial system (UAS) depth perception has remained largely unexplored. This paper presents a stereo thermal depth perception dataset for autonomous aerial perception applications. The dataset consists of stereo thermal images, LiDAR, IMU and ground truth depth maps captured in urban and forest settings under diverse conditions like day, night, rain, and smoke. We benchmark representative stereo depth estimation algorithms, offering insights into their performance in degraded conditions. Models trained on our dataset generalize well to unseen smoky conditions, highlighting the robustness of stereo thermal imaging for depth perception. We aim for this work to enhance robotic perception in disaster scenarios, allowing for exploration and operations in previously unreachable areas. GenFusion: Feed-forward Human Performance Capture via Progressive Canonical Space Updates

We present a feed-forward human performance capture method that renders novel views of a performer from a monocular RGB stream. A key challenge in this setting is the lack of sufficient observations, especially for unseen regions. Assuming the subject moves continuously over time, we take advantage of the fact that more body parts become observable by maintaining a canonical space that is progressively updated with each incoming frame. This canonical space accumulates appearance information over time and serves as a context bank when direct observations are missing in the current live frame. To effectively utilize this context while respecting the deformation of the live state, we formulate the rendering process as probabilistic regression. This resolves conflicts between past and current observations, producing sharper reconstructions than deterministic regression approaches. Furthermore, it enables plausible synthesis even in regions with no prior observations. Experiments on in-domain (4D-Dress) and out-of-distribution (MVHumanNet) datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Continual Hand-Eye Calibration for Open-world Robotic Manipulation

Hand-eye calibration through visual localization is a critical capability for robotic manipulation in open-world environments. However, most deep learning-based calibration models suffer from catastrophic forgetting when adapting into unseen data amongst open-world scene changes, while simple rehearsal-based continual learning strategy cannot well mitigate this issue. To overcome this challenge, we propose a continual hand-eye calibration framework, enabling robots to adapt to sequentially encountered open-world manipulation scenes through spatially replay strategy and structure-preserving distillation. Specifically, a Spatial-Aware Replay Strategy (SARS) constructs a geometrically uniform replay buffer that ensures comprehensive coverage of each scene pose space, replacing redundant adjacent frames with maximally informative viewpoints. Meanwhile, a Structure-Preserving Dual Distillation (SPDD) is proposed to decompose localization knowledge into coarse scene layout and fine pose precision, and distills them separately to alleviate both types of forgetting during continual adaptation. As a new manipulation scene arrives, SARS provides geometrically representative replay samples from all prior scenes, and SPDD applies structured distillation on these samples to retain previously learned knowledge. After training on the new scene, SARS incorporates selected samples from the new scene into the replay buffer for future rehearsal, allowing the model to continuously accumulate multi-scene calibration capability. Experiments on multiple public datasets show significant anti scene forgetting performance, maintaining accuracy on past scenes while preserving adaptation to new scenes, confirming the effectiveness of the framework.

Repurposing 2D Diffusion Models for 3D Shape Completion

We present a framework that adapts 2D diffusion models for 3D shape completion from incomplete point clouds. While text-to-image diffusion models have achieved remarkable success with abundant 2D data, 3D diffusion models lag due to the scarcity of high-quality 3D datasets and a persistent modality gap between 3D inputs and 2D latent spaces. To overcome these limitations, we introduce the Shape Atlas, a compact 2D representation of 3D geometry that (1) enables full utilization of the generative power of pretrained 2D diffusion models, and (2) aligns the modalities between the conditional input and output spaces, allowing more effective conditioning. This unified 2D formulation facilitates learning from limited 3D data and produces high-quality, detail-preserving shape completions. We validate the effectiveness of our results on the PCN and ShapeNet-55 datasets. Additionally, we show the downstream application of creating artist-created meshes from our completed point clouds, further demonstrating the practicality of our method.

S2FT: Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning in Sparse Spectrum Domain

Parameter Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) is a key technique for adapting a large pretrained model to downstream tasks by fine-tuning only a small number of parameters. Recent methods based on Fourier transforms have further reduced the fine-tuned parameters scale by only fine-tuning a few spectral coefficients. Its basic assumption is that the weight change δW is a spatial-domain matrix with a sparse spectrum. However, in this paper, we observe that the spectrum of weight change is not sparse, but instead distributed like power-uniform. This fact implies that fine-tuning only a few spectral coefficients is insufficient to accurately model the weight change with uniform spectrum. To address this issue, we propose to seek an invertible transformation that can transform a latent spatial-domain matrix with sparse spectrum to the weight change, and then perform PEFT on such sparse spectrum domain with few spectral coefficients, called S2FT. To seek such transformation, we first pre-estimate a coarse weight change as a prior. Then, inspired by that sparse spectrum often correspond to locally smooth spatial structures, we regard this transformation as a row and column rearrangement operation on the pre-estimated weight change that smooth spatial structures while keep the structure information of neurons. Finally, we propose to solve the rearrangement search problem in a simple nearest neighbor search manner, thereby obtaining the invertible transformation. Extensive results show our S2FT achieves superior performance by only using 0.08% training parameters.

Codebook Transfer with Part-of-Speech for Vector-Quantized Image Modeling

Vector-Quantized Image Modeling (VQIM) is a fundamental research problem in image synthesis, which aims to represent an image with a discrete token sequence. Existing studies effectively address this problem by learning a discrete codebook from scratch and in a code-independent manner to quantize continuous representations into discrete tokens. However, learning a codebook from scratch and in a code-independent manner is highly challenging, which may be a key reason causing codebook collapse, i.e., some code vectors can rarely be optimized without regard to the relationship between codes and good codebook priors such that die off finally. In this paper, inspired by pretrained language models, we find that these language models have actually pretrained a superior codebook via a large number of text corpus, but such information is rarely exploited in VQIM. To this end, we propose a novel codebook transfer framework with part-of-speech, called VQCT, which aims to transfer a well-trained codebook from pretrained language models to VQIM for robust codebook learning. Specifically, we first introduce a pretrained codebook from language models and part-of-speech knowledge as priors. Then, we construct a vision-related codebook with these priors for achieving codebook transfer. Finally, a novel codebook transfer network is designed to exploit abundant semantic relationships between codes contained in pretrained codebooks for robust VQIM codebook learning. Experimental results on four datasets show that our VQCT method achieves superior VQIM performance over previous state-of-the-art methods.

Stem-OB: Generalizable Visual Imitation Learning with Stem-Like Convergent Observation through Diffusion Inversion

Visual imitation learning methods demonstrate strong performance, yet they lack generalization when faced with visual input perturbations, including variations in lighting and textures, impeding their real-world application. We propose Stem-OB that utilizes pretrained image diffusion models to suppress low-level visual differences while maintaining high-level scene structures. This image inversion process is akin to transforming the observation into a shared representation, from which other observations stem, with extraneous details removed. Stem-OB contrasts with data-augmentation approaches as it is robust to various unspecified appearance changes without the need for additional training. Our method is a simple yet highly effective plug-and-play solution. Empirical results confirm the effectiveness of our approach in simulated tasks and show an exceptionally significant improvement in real-world applications, with an average increase of 22.2% in success rates compared to the best baseline. Demonstrating ViSafe: Vision-enabled Safety for High-speed Detect and Avoid

Assured safe-separation is essential for achieving seamless high-density operation of airborne vehicles in a shared airspace. To equip resource-constrained aerial systems with this safety-critical capability, we present ViSafe, a high-speed vision-only airborne collision avoidance system. ViSafe offers a full-stack solution to the Detect and Avoid (DAA) problem by tightly integrating a learning-based edge-AI framework with a custom multi-camera hardware prototype designed under SWaP-C constraints. By leveraging perceptual input-focused control barrier functions (CBF) to design, encode, and enforce safety thresholds, ViSafe can provide provably safe runtime guarantees for self-separation in high-speed aerial operations. We evaluate ViSafe's performance through an extensive test campaign involving both simulated digital twins and real-world flight scenarios. By independently varying agent types, closure rates, interaction geometries, and environmental conditions (e.g., weather and lighting), we demonstrate that ViSafe consistently ensures self-separation across diverse scenarios. In first-of-its-kind real-world high-speed collision avoidance tests with closure rates reaching 144 km/h, ViSafe sets a new benchmark for vision-only autonomous collision avoidance, establishing a new standard for safety in high-speed aerial navigation.

Towards Improved Text-Aligned Codebook Learning: Multi-Hierarchical Codebook-Text Alignment with Long Text

Image quantization is a crucial technique in image generation, aimed at learning a codebook that encodes an image into a discrete token sequence. Recent advancements have seen researchers exploring learning multi-modal codebook (i.e., text-aligned codebook) by utilizing image caption semantics, aiming to enhance codebook performance in cross-modal tasks. However, existing image-text paired datasets exhibit a notable flaw in that the text descriptions tend to be overly concise, failing to adequately describe the images and provide sufficient semantic knowledge, resulting in limited alignment of text and codebook at a fine-grained level. In this paper, we propose a novel Text-Augmented Codebook Learning framework, named TA-VQ, which generates longer text for each image using the visual-language model for improved text-aligned codebook learning. However, the long text presents two key challenges: how to encode text and how to align codebook and text. To tackle two challenges, we propose to split the long text into multiple granularities for encoding, i.e., word, phrase, and sentence, so that the long text can be fully encoded without losing any key semantic knowledge. Following this, a hierarchical encoder and novel sampling-based alignment strategy are designed to achieve fine-grained codebook-text alignment. Additionally, our method can be seamlessly integrated into existing VQ models. Extensive experiments in reconstruction and various downstream tasks demonstrate its effectiveness compared to previous state-of-the-art approaches.

Artist-Created Mesh Generation from Raw Observation

We present an end-to-end framework for generating artist-style meshes from noisy or incomplete point clouds, such as those captured by real-world sensors like LiDAR or mobile RGB-D cameras. Artist-created meshes are crucial for commercial graphics pipelines due to their compatibility with animation and texturing tools and their efficiency in rendering. However, existing approaches often assume clean, complete inputs or rely on complex multi-stage pipelines, limiting their applicability in real-world scenarios. To address this, we propose an end-to-end method that refines the input point cloud and directly produces high-quality, artist-style meshes. At the core of our approach is a novel reformulation of 3D point cloud refinement as a 2D inpainting task, enabling the use of powerful generative models. Preliminary results on the ShapeNet dataset demonstrate the promise of our framework in producing clean, complete meshes.

Unlearning of Knowledge Graph Embedding via Preference Optimization

Existing knowledge graphs (KGs) inevitably contain outdated or erroneous knowledge that needs to be removed from knowledge graph embedding (KGE) models. To address this challenge, knowledge unlearning can be applied to eliminate specific information while preserving the integrity of the remaining knowledge in KGs. Existing unlearning methods can generally be categorized into exact unlearning and approximate unlearning. However, exact unlearning requires high training costs while approximate unlearning faces two issues when applied to KGs due to the inherent connectivity of triples: (1) It fails to fully remove targeted information, as forgetting triples can still be inferred from remaining ones. (2) It focuses on local data for specific removal, which weakens the remaining knowledge in the forgetting boundary. To address these issues, we propose GraphDPO, a novel approximate unlearning framework based on direct preference optimization (DPO). Firstly, to effectively remove forgetting triples, we reframe unlearning as a preference optimization problem, where the model is trained by DPO to prefer reconstructed alternatives over the original forgetting triples. This formulation penalizes reliance on forgettable knowledge, mitigating incomplete forgetting caused by KG connectivity. Moreover, we introduce an out-boundary sampling strategy to construct preference pairs with minimal semantic overlap, weakening the connection between forgetting and retained knowledge. Secondly, to preserve boundary knowledge, we introduce a boundary recall mechanism that replays and distills relevant information both within and across time steps. We construct eight unlearning datasets across four popular KGs with varying unlearning rates. Experiments show that GraphDPO outperforms state-of-the-art baselines by up to 10.1% in MRR_Avg and 14.0% in MRR_F1.

Toward Efficient and Robust Multiple Camera Visual-inertial Odometry

Efficiency and robustness are the essential criteria for the visual-inertial odometry (VIO) system. To process massive visual data, the high cost on CPU resources and computation latency limits VIO's possibility in integration with other applications. Recently, the powerful embedded GPUs have great potentials to improve the front-end image processing capability. Meanwhile, multi-camera systems can increase the visual constraints for back-end optimization. Inspired by these insights, we incorporate the GPU-enhanced algorithms in the field of VIO and thus propose a new front-end with NVIDIA Vision Programming Interface (VPI). This new front-end then enables multi-camera VIO feature association and provides more stable back-end pose optimization. Experiments with our new front-end on monocular datasets show the CPU resource occupation rate and computational latency are reduced by 40.4% and 50.6% without losing accuracy compared with the original VIO. The multi-camera system shows a higher VIO initialization success rate and better robustness overall state estimation.
