Silhouette-based Gait Foundation Model

Gait patterns play a critical role in human identification and healthcare analytics, yet current progress remains constrained by small, narrowly designed models that fail to scale or generalize. Building a unified gait foundation model requires addressing two longstanding barriers: (a) Scalability. Why have gait models historically failed to follow scaling laws? (b) Generalization. Can one model serve the diverse gait tasks that have traditionally been studied in isolation? We introduce FoundationGait, the first scalable, self-supervised pretraining framework for gait understanding. Its largest version has nearly 0.13 billion parameters and is pretrained on 12 public gait datasets comprising over 2 million walking sequences. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FoundationGait, with or without fine-tuning, performs robustly across a wide spectrum of gait datasets, conditions, tasks (e.g., human identification, scoliosis screening, depression prediction, and attribute estimation), and even input modality. Notably, it achieves 48.0% zero-shot rank-1 accuracy on the challenging in-the-wild Gait3D dataset (1,000 test subjects) and 64.5% on the largest in-the-lab OU-MVLP dataset (5,000+ test subjects), setting a new milestone in robust gait recognition. PowerLens: Taming LLM Agents for Safe and Personalized Mobile Power Management

Battery life remains a critical challenge for mobile devices, yet existing power management mechanisms rely on static rules or coarse-grained heuristics that ignore user activities and personal preferences. We present PowerLens, a system that tames the reasoning power of Large Language Models (LLMs) for safe and personalized mobile power management on Android devices. The key idea is that LLMs' commonsense reasoning can bridge the semantic gap between user activities and system parameters, enabling zero-shot, context-aware policy generation that adapts to individual preferences through implicit feedback. PowerLens employs a multi-agent architecture that recognizes user context from UI semantics and generates holistic power policies across 18 device parameters. A PDL-based constraint framework verifies every action before execution, while a two-tier memory system learns individualized preferences from implicit user overrides through confidence-based distillation, requiring no explicit configuration and converging within 3--5 days. Extensive experiments on a rooted Android device show that PowerLens achieves 81.7% action accuracy and 38.8% energy saving over stock Android, outperforming rule-based and LLM-based baselines, with high user satisfaction, fast preference convergence, and strong safety guarantees, with the system itself consuming only 0.5% of daily battery capacity.

PhyMix: Towards Physically Consistent Single-Image 3D Indoor Scene Generation with Implicit--Explicit Optimization

Existing single-image 3D indoor scene generators often produce results that look visually plausible but fail to obey real-world physics, limiting their reliability in robotics, embodied AI, and design. To examine this gap, we introduce a unified Physics Evaluator that measures four main aspects: geometric priors, contact, stability, and deployability, which are further decomposed into nine sub-constraints, establishing the first benchmark to measure physical consistency. Based on this evaluator, our analysis shows that state-of-the-art methods remain largely physics-unaware. To overcome this limitation, we further propose a framework that integrates feedback from the Physics Evaluator into both training and inference, enhancing the physical plausibility of generated scenes. Specifically, we propose PhyMix, which is composed of two complementary components: (i) implicit alignment via Scene-GRPO, a critic-free group-relative policy optimization that leverages the Physics Evaluator as a preference signal and biases sampling towards physically feasible layouts, and (ii) explicit refinement via a plug-and-play Test-Time Optimizer (TTO) that uses differentiable evaluator signals to correct residual violations during generation. Overall, our method unifies evaluation, reward shaping, and inference-time correction, producing 3D indoor scenes that are visually faithful and physically plausible. Extensive synthetic evaluations confirm state-of-the-art performance in both visual fidelity and physical plausibility, and extensive qualitative examples in stylized and real-world images further showcase the robustness of the method. SwiftChannel: Algorithm-Hardware Co-Design for Deep Learning-Based 5G Channel Estimation

Channel estimation is crucial in 5G communication networks for optimizing transmission parameters and ensuring reliable, high-speed communication. However, the use of multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) and millimeter-wave (mmWave) in 5G networks presents challenges in achieving accurate estimation under strict latency requirements on resource-limited hardware platforms. To address these challenges, we propose SwiftChannel, an algorithm-hardware co-design framework that integrates a hardware-friendly deep learning-based channel estimator with a dedicated accelerator. Our approach employs a convolutional neural network enhanced with a parameter-free attention mechanism, which effectively reconstructs full-resolution spatial-frequency domain channel matrices from low-resolution least squares (LS) estimates. We further develop a multi-stage model compression pipeline combining knowledge distillation, convolution re-parameterization, and quantization-aware training, resulting in substantial model size reduction with negligible accuracy loss. The hardware accelerator, implementing the compressed model and the LS estimator on FPGA platforms using High-level Synthesis (HLS), features a fine-grained pipeline architecture and optimized dataflow strategies. Tested on a Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC, the accelerator achieves sub-millisecond latency, providing up to 24x speed-up and over 33x improvement in energy efficiency compared to GPU-based solutions. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that the proposed design generalizes not only across various noise levels and user mobilities, but also to a variety of unseen channel profiles, outperforming state-of-the-art baselines. By unifying algorithmic innovation with hardware-aware design, our work presents a future-proof channel estimation solution for 5G MIMO systems.

BiggerGait: Unlocking Gait Recognition with Layer-wise Representations from Large Vision Models

Large vision models (LVM) based gait recognition has achieved impressive performance. However, existing LVM-based approaches may overemphasize gait priors while neglecting the intrinsic value of LVM itself, particularly the rich, distinct representations across its multi-layers. To adequately unlock LVM's potential, this work investigates the impact of layer-wise representations on downstream recognition tasks. Our analysis reveals that LVM's intermediate layers offer complementary properties across tasks, integrating them yields an impressive improvement even without rich well-designed gait priors. Building on this insight, we propose a simple and universal baseline for LVM-based gait recognition, termed BiggerGait. Comprehensive evaluations on CCPG, CAISA-B*, SUSTech1K, and CCGR\_MINI validate the superiority of BiggerGait across both within- and cross-domain tasks, establishing it as a simple yet practical baseline for gait representation learning. InaudibleKey: Generic Inaudible Acoustic Signal based Key Agreement Protocol for Mobile Devices

Secure Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is becoming increasingly important with the ever-growing number of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices in our daily life. To achieve secure D2D communication, the key agreement between different IoT devices without any prior knowledge is becoming desirable. Although various approaches have been proposed in the literature, they suffer from a number of limitations, such as low key generation rate and short pairing distance. In this paper, we present InaudibleKey, an inaudible acoustic signal-based key generation protocol for mobile devices. Based on acoustic channel reciprocity, InaudibleKey exploits the acoustic channel frequency response of two legitimate devices as a common secret to generating keys. InaudibleKey employs several novel technologies to significantly improve its performance. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the proposed system in different real environments. Compared to state-of-the-art works, InaudibleKey improves key generation rate by 3-145 times, extends pairing distance by 3.2-44 times, and reduces information reconciliation counts by 2.5-16 times. Security analysis demonstrates that InaudibleKey is resilient to a number of malicious attacks. We also implement InaudibleKey on modern smartphones and resource-limited IoT devices. Results show that it is energy-efficient and can run on both powerful and resource-limited IoT devices without incurring excessive resource consumption.

Key Generation for Internet of Things: A Contemporary Survey

Key generation is a promising technique to bootstrap secure communications for the Internet of Things (IoT) devices that have no prior knowledge between each other. In the past few years, a variety of key generation protocols and systems have been proposed. In this survey, we review and categorise recent key generation systems based on a novel taxonomy. Then, we provide both quantitative and qualitative comparisons of existing approaches. We also discuss the security vulnerabilities of key generation schemes and possible countermeasures. Finally, we discuss the current challenges and point out several potential research directions.

Shake-n-Shack: Enabling Secure Data Exchange Between Smart Wearables via Handshakes

Since ancient Greece, handshaking has been commonly practiced between two people as a friendly gesture to express trust and respect, or form a mutual agreement. In this paper, we show that such physical contact can be used to bootstrap secure cyber contact between the smart devices worn by users. The key observation is that during handshaking, although belonged to two different users, the two hands involved in the shaking events are often rigidly connected, and therefore exhibit very similar motion patterns. We propose a novel Shake-n-Shack system, which harvests motion data during user handshaking from the wrist worn smart devices such as smartwatches or fitness bands, and exploits the matching motion patterns to generate symmetric keys on both parties. The generated keys can be then used to establish a secure communication channel for exchanging data between devices. This provides a much more natural and user-friendly alternative for many applications, e.g. exchanging/sharing contact details, friending on social networks, or even making payments, since it doesn't involve extra bespoke hardware, nor require the users to perform pre-defined gestures. We implement the proposed Shake-n-Shack system on off-the-shelf smartwatches, and extensive evaluation shows that it can reliably generate 128-bit symmetric keys just after around 1s of handshaking (with success rate >99%), and is resilient to real-time mimicking attacks: in our experiments the Equal Error Rate (EER) is only 1.6% on average. We also show that the proposed Shake-n-Shack system can be extremely lightweight, and is able to run in-situ on the resource-constrained smartwatches without incurring excessive resource consumption.
