EnvPool: A Highly Parallel Reinforcement Learning Environment Execution EngineJiayi Weng, Min Lin, Shengyi Huang et al. · cmu, pku
There has been significant progress in developing reinforcement learning (RL) training systems. Past works such as IMPALA, Apex, Seed RL, Sample Factory, and others, aim to improve the system's overall throughput. In this paper, we aim to address a common bottleneck in the RL training system, i.e., parallel environment execution, which is often the slowest part of the whole system but receives little attention. With a curated design for paralleling RL environments, we have improved the RL environment simulation speed across different hardware setups, ranging from a laptop and a modest workstation, to a high-end machine such as NVIDIA DGX-A100. On a high-end machine, EnvPool achieves one million frames per second for the environment execution on Atari environments and three million frames per second on MuJoCo environments. When running EnvPool on a laptop, the speed is 2.8x that of the Python subprocess. Moreover, great compatibility with existing RL training libraries has been demonstrated in the open-sourced community, including CleanRL, rl_games, DeepMind Acme, etc. Finally, EnvPool allows researchers to iterate their ideas at a much faster pace and has great potential to become the de facto RL environment execution engine. Example runs show that it only takes five minutes to train agents to play Atari Pong and MuJoCo Ant on a laptop. EnvPool is open-sourced at https://github.com/sail-sg/envpool.

DeepSeek-Prover-V1.5: Harnessing Proof Assistant Feedback for Reinforcement Learning and Monte-Carlo Tree SearchHuajian Xin, Z. Z. Ren, Junxiao Song et al. · pku, stanford
We introduce DeepSeek-Prover-V1.5, an open-source language model designed for theorem proving in Lean 4, which enhances DeepSeek-Prover-V1 by optimizing both training and inference processes. Pre-trained on DeepSeekMath-Base with specialization in formal mathematical languages, the model undergoes supervised fine-tuning using an enhanced formal theorem proving dataset derived from DeepSeek-Prover-V1. Further refinement is achieved through reinforcement learning from proof assistant feedback (RLPAF). Beyond the single-pass whole-proof generation approach of DeepSeek-Prover-V1, we propose RMaxTS, a variant of Monte-Carlo tree search that employs an intrinsic-reward-driven exploration strategy to generate diverse proof paths. DeepSeek-Prover-V1.5 demonstrates significant improvements over DeepSeek-Prover-V1, achieving new state-of-the-art results on the test set of the high school level miniF2F benchmark ($63.5\%$) and the undergraduate level ProofNet benchmark ($25.3\%$).

As intelligent agents become autonomous over longer periods of time, they may eventually become lifelong counterparts to specific people. If so, it may be common for a user to want the agent to master a task temporarily but later on to forget the task due to privacy concerns. However enabling an agent to \emph{forget privately} what the user specified without degrading the rest of the learned knowledge is a challenging problem. With the aim of addressing this challenge, this paper formalizes this continual learning and private unlearning (CLPU) problem. The paper further introduces a straightforward but exactly private solution, CLPU-DER++, as the first step towards solving the CLPU problem, along with a set of carefully designed benchmark problems to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solution. Benchmarking Reinforcement Learning Techniques for Autonomous NavigationZifan Xu, Bo Liu, Xuesu Xiao et al.
Deep reinforcement learning (RL) has brought many successes for autonomous robot navigation. However, there still exists important limitations that prevent real-world use of RL-based navigation systems. For example, most learning approaches lack safety guarantees; and learned navigation systems may not generalize well to unseen environments. Despite a variety of recent learning techniques to tackle these challenges in general, a lack of an open-source benchmark and reproducible learning methods specifically for autonomous navigation makes it difficult for roboticists to choose what learning methods to use for their mobile robots and for learning researchers to identify current shortcomings of general learning methods for autonomous navigation. In this paper, we identify four major desiderata of applying deep RL approaches for autonomous navigation: (D1) reasoning under uncertainty, (D2) safety, (D3) learning from limited trial-and-error data, and (D4) generalization to diverse and novel environments. Then, we explore four major classes of learning techniques with the purpose of achieving one or more of the four desiderata: memory-based neural network architectures (D1), safe RL (D2), model-based RL (D2, D3), and domain randomization (D4). By deploying these learning techniques in a new open-source large-scale navigation benchmark and real-world environments, we perform a comprehensive study aimed at establishing to what extent can these techniques achieve these desiderata for RL-based navigation systems.

TorchOpt: An Efficient Library for Differentiable OptimizationJie Ren, Xidong Feng, Bo Liu et al. · pku
Recent years have witnessed the booming of various differentiable optimization algorithms. These algorithms exhibit different execution patterns, and their execution needs massive computational resources that go beyond a single CPU and GPU. Existing differentiable optimization libraries, however, cannot support efficient algorithm development and multi-CPU/GPU execution, making the development of differentiable optimization algorithms often cumbersome and expensive. This paper introduces TorchOpt, a PyTorch-based efficient library for differentiable optimization. TorchOpt provides a unified and expressive differentiable optimization programming abstraction. This abstraction allows users to efficiently declare and analyze various differentiable optimization programs with explicit gradients, implicit gradients, and zero-order gradients. TorchOpt further provides a high-performance distributed execution runtime. This runtime can fully parallelize computation-intensive differentiation operations (e.g. tensor tree flattening) on CPUs / GPUs and automatically distribute computation to distributed devices. One of the grand enduring goals of AI is to create generalist agents that can learn multiple different tasks from diverse data via multitask learning (MTL). However, in practice, applying gradient descent (GD) on the average loss across all tasks may yield poor multitask performance due to severe under-optimization of certain tasks. Previous approaches that manipulate task gradients for a more balanced loss decrease require storing and computing all task gradients ($\mathcal{O}(k)$ space and time where $k$ is the number of tasks), limiting their use in large-scale scenarios. In this work, we introduce Fast Adaptive Multitask Optimization FAMO, a dynamic weighting method that decreases task losses in a balanced way using $\mathcal{O}(1)$ space and time. We conduct an extensive set of experiments covering multi-task supervised and reinforcement learning problems. Our results indicate that FAMO achieves comparable or superior performance to state-of-the-art gradient manipulation techniques while offering significant improvements in space and computational efficiency. LLM+P: Empowering Large Language Models with Optimal Planning ProficiencyBo Liu, Yuqian Jiang, Xiaohan Zhang et al.
Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable zero-shot generalization abilities: state-of-the-art chatbots can provide plausible answers to many common questions that arise in daily life. However, so far, LLMs cannot reliably solve long-horizon planning problems. By contrast, classical planners, once a problem is given in a formatted way, can use efficient search algorithms to quickly identify correct, or even optimal, plans. In an effort to get the best of both worlds, this paper introduces LLM+P, the first framework that incorporates the strengths of classical planners into LLMs. LLM+P takes in a natural language description of a planning problem, then returns a correct (or optimal) plan for solving that problem in natural language. LLM+P does so by first converting the language description into a file written in the planning domain definition language (PDDL), then leveraging classical planners to quickly find a solution, and then translating the found solution back into natural language. Along with LLM+P, we define a diverse set of different benchmark problems taken from common planning scenarios. Via a comprehensive set of experiments on these benchmark problems, we find that LLM+P is able to provide optimal solutions for most problems, while LLMs fail to provide even feasible plans for most problems.\footnote{The code and results are publicly available at https://github.com/Cranial-XIX/llm-pddl.git.

LIBERO: Benchmarking Knowledge Transfer for Lifelong Robot LearningBo Liu, Yifeng Zhu, Chongkai Gao et al. · apple-ml
Lifelong learning offers a promising paradigm of building a generalist agent that learns and adapts over its lifespan. Unlike traditional lifelong learning problems in image and text domains, which primarily involve the transfer of declarative knowledge of entities and concepts, lifelong learning in decision-making (LLDM) also necessitates the transfer of procedural knowledge, such as actions and behaviors. To advance research in LLDM, we introduce LIBERO, a novel benchmark of lifelong learning for robot manipulation. Specifically, LIBERO highlights five key research topics in LLDM: 1) how to efficiently transfer declarative knowledge, procedural knowledge, or the mixture of both; 2) how to design effective policy architectures and 3) effective algorithms for LLDM; 4) the robustness of a lifelong learner with respect to task ordering; and 5) the effect of model pretraining for LLDM. We develop an extendible procedural generation pipeline that can in principle generate infinitely many tasks. For benchmarking purpose, we create four task suites (130 tasks in total) that we use to investigate the above-mentioned research topics. To support sample-efficient learning, we provide high-quality human-teleoperated demonstration data for all tasks. Our extensive experiments present several insightful or even unexpected discoveries: sequential finetuning outperforms existing lifelong learning methods in forward transfer, no single visual encoder architecture excels at all types of knowledge transfer, and naive supervised pretraining can hinder agents' performance in the subsequent LLDM. Dealing With Heterogeneous 3D MR Knee Images: A Federated Few-Shot Learning Method With Dual Knowledge DistillationXiaoxiao He, Chaowei Tan, Bo Liu et al.
Federated Learning has gained popularity among medical institutions since it enables collaborative training between clients (e.g., hospitals) without aggregating data. However, due to the high cost associated with creating annotations, especially for large 3D image datasets, clinical institutions do not have enough supervised data for training locally. Thus, the performance of the collaborative model is subpar under limited supervision. On the other hand, large institutions have the resources to compile data repositories with high-resolution images and labels. Therefore, individual clients can utilize the knowledge acquired in the public data repositories to mitigate the shortage of private annotated images. In this paper, we propose a federated few-shot learning method with dual knowledge distillation. This method allows joint training with limited annotations across clients without jeopardizing privacy. The supervised learning of the proposed method extracts features from limited labeled data in each client, while the unsupervised data is used to distill both feature and response-based knowledge from a national data repository to further improve the accuracy of the collaborative model and reduce the communication cost. Extensive evaluations are conducted on 3D magnetic resonance knee images from a private clinical dataset. Our proposed method shows superior performance and less training time than other semi-supervised federated learning methods. DMCVR: Morphology-Guided Diffusion Model for 3D Cardiac Volume ReconstructionXiaoxiao He, Chaowei Tan, Ligong Han et al.
Accurate 3D cardiac reconstruction from cine magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) is crucial for improved cardiovascular disease diagnosis and understanding of the heart's motion. However, current cardiac MRI-based reconstruction technology used in clinical settings is 2D with limited through-plane resolution, resulting in low-quality reconstructed cardiac volumes. To better reconstruct 3D cardiac volumes from sparse 2D image stacks, we propose a morphology-guided diffusion model for 3D cardiac volume reconstruction, DMCVR, that synthesizes high-resolution 2D images and corresponding 3D reconstructed volumes. Our method outperforms previous approaches by conditioning the cardiac morphology on the generative model, eliminating the time-consuming iterative optimization process of the latent code, and improving generation quality. The learned latent spaces provide global semantics, local cardiac morphology and details of each 2D cMRI slice with highly interpretable value to reconstruct 3D cardiac shape. Our experiments show that DMCVR is highly effective in several aspects, such as 2D generation and 3D reconstruction performance. With DMCVR, we can produce high-resolution 3D cardiac MRI reconstructions, surpassing current techniques. One Parameter Defense -- Defending against Data Inference Attacks via Differential PrivacyDayong Ye, Sheng Shen, Tianqing Zhu et al. · berkeley
Machine learning models are vulnerable to data inference attacks, such as membership inference and model inversion attacks. In these types of breaches, an adversary attempts to infer a data record's membership in a dataset or even reconstruct this data record using a confidence score vector predicted by the target model. However, most existing defense methods only protect against membership inference attacks. Methods that can combat both types of attacks require a new model to be trained, which may not be time-efficient. In this paper, we propose a differentially private defense method that handles both types of attacks in a time-efficient manner by tuning only one parameter, the privacy budget. The central idea is to modify and normalize the confidence score vectors with a differential privacy mechanism which preserves privacy and obscures membership and reconstructed data. Moreover, this method can guarantee the order of scores in the vector to avoid any loss in classification accuracy. The experimental results show the method to be an effective and timely defense against both membership inference and model inversion attacks with no reduction in accuracy.

Computing is a critical driving force in the development of human civilization. In recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of intelligent computing, a new computing paradigm that is reshaping traditional computing and promoting digital revolution in the era of big data, artificial intelligence and internet-of-things with new computing theories, architectures, methods, systems, and applications. Intelligent computing has greatly broadened the scope of computing, extending it from traditional computing on data to increasingly diverse computing paradigms such as perceptual intelligence, cognitive intelligence, autonomous intelligence, and human-computer fusion intelligence. Intelligence and computing have undergone paths of different evolution and development for a long time but have become increasingly intertwined in recent years: intelligent computing is not only intelligence-oriented but also intelligence-driven. Such cross-fertilization has prompted the emergence and rapid advancement of intelligent computing. Intelligent computing is still in its infancy and an abundance of innovations in the theories, systems, and applications of intelligent computing are expected to occur soon. We present the first comprehensive survey of literature on intelligent computing, covering its theory fundamentals, the technological fusion of intelligence and computing, important applications, challenges, and future perspectives. We believe that this survey is highly timely and will provide a comprehensive reference and cast valuable insights into intelligent computing for academic and industrial researchers and practitioners.

MGML: A Plug-and-Play Meta-Guided Multi-Modal Learning Framework for Incomplete Multimodal Brain Tumor SegmentationYulong Zou, Bo Liu, Cun-Jing Zheng et al.
Leveraging multimodal information from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays a vital role in lesion segmentation, especially for brain tumors. However, in clinical practice, multimodal MRI data are often incomplete, making it challenging to fully utilize the available information. Therefore, maximizing the utilization of this incomplete multimodal information presents a crucial research challenge. We present a novel meta-guided multi-modal learning (MGML) framework that comprises two components: meta-parameterized adaptive modality fusion and consistency regularization module. The meta-parameterized adaptive modality fusion (Meta-AMF) enables the model to effectively integrate information from multiple modalities under varying input conditions. By generating adaptive soft-label supervision signals based on the available modalities, Meta-AMF explicitly promotes more coherent multimodal fusion. In addition, the consistency regularization module enhances segmentation performance and implicitly reinforces the robustness and generalization of the overall framework. Notably, our approach does not alter the original model architecture and can be conveniently integrated into the training pipeline for end-to-end model optimization. We conducted extensive experiments on the public BraTS2020 and BraTS2023 datasets. Compared to multiple state-of-the-art methods from previous years, our method achieved superior performance. On BraTS2020, for the average Dice scores across fifteen missing modality combinations, building upon the baseline, our method obtained scores of 87.55, 79.36, and 62.67 for the whole tumor (WT), the tumor core (TC), and the enhancing tumor (ET), respectively. Towards LLM-driven Dialogue State TrackingYujie Feng, Zexin Lu, Bo Liu et al.
Dialogue State Tracking (DST) is of paramount importance in ensuring accurate tracking of user goals and system actions within task-oriented dialogue systems. The emergence of large language models (LLMs) such as GPT3 and ChatGPT has sparked considerable interest in assessing their efficacy across diverse applications. In this study, we conduct an initial examination of ChatGPT's capabilities in DST. Our evaluation uncovers the exceptional performance of ChatGPT in this task, offering valuable insights to researchers regarding its capabilities and providing useful directions for designing and enhancing dialogue systems. Despite its impressive performance, ChatGPT has significant limitations including its closed-source nature, request restrictions, raising data privacy concerns, and lacking local deployment capabilities. To address these concerns, we present LDST, an LLM-driven DST framework based on smaller, open-source foundation models. By utilizing a novel domain-slot instruction tuning method, LDST achieves performance on par with ChatGPT. Comprehensive evaluations across three distinct experimental settings, we find that LDST exhibits remarkable performance improvements in both zero-shot and few-shot setting compared to previous SOTA methods. Recent AI systems have achieved strong results on a wide range of benchmarks, yet these gains have not translated into economically meaningful deployment across many professional domains. We argue that this gap is largely an evaluation problem: widely used benchmarks lack sustained performance measurement on real and economically valuable workflows. This paper introduces Agents' Last Exam (ALE), a benchmark designed to evaluate AI agents on long-horizon, economically valuable, real-world tasks with verifiable outcomes. Developed in collaboration with 250+ industry experts, ALE covers non-physical industries defined with reference to O*NET / SOC 2018 (the U.S. federal occupational taxonomy). It is organized around a task taxonomy with 55 subfields grouped into 13 industry clusters covering 1K+ tasks. Current results show that the hardest tier remains far from saturated: across mainstream harness and backbone configurations, the average full pass rate is 2.6%. ALE is designed as a living benchmark: its task pool grows continuously as new workflows and industries are onboarded. More broadly, ALE is intended not merely as another leaderboard, but as an instrument for closing the gap between benchmark success and GDP-relevant impact.

How Good Are LLMs at Out-of-Distribution Detection?Bo Liu, Liming Zhan, Zexin Lu et al.
Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection plays a vital role in enhancing the reliability of machine learning (ML) models. The emergence of large language models (LLMs) has catalyzed a paradigm shift within the ML community, showcasing their exceptional capabilities across diverse natural language processing tasks. While existing research has probed OOD detection with relative small-scale Transformers like BERT, RoBERTa and GPT-2, the stark differences in scales, pre-training objectives, and inference paradigms call into question the applicability of these findings to LLMs. This paper embarks on a pioneering empirical investigation of OOD detection in the domain of LLMs, focusing on LLaMA series ranging from 7B to 65B in size. We thoroughly evaluate commonly-used OOD detectors, scrutinizing their performance in both zero-grad and fine-tuning scenarios. Notably, we alter previous discriminative in-distribution fine-tuning into generative fine-tuning, aligning the pre-training objective of LLMs with downstream tasks. Our findings unveil that a simple cosine distance OOD detector demonstrates superior efficacy, outperforming other OOD detectors. We provide an intriguing explanation for this phenomenon by highlighting the isotropic nature of the embedding spaces of LLMs, which distinctly contrasts with the anisotropic property observed in smaller BERT family models. The new insight enhances our understanding of how LLMs detect OOD data, thereby enhancing their adaptability and reliability in dynamic environments. Multiple Instance Learning Framework with Masked Hard Instance Mining for Whole Slide Image ClassificationWenhao Tang, Sheng Huang, Xiaoxian Zhang et al.
The whole slide image (WSI) classification is often formulated as a multiple instance learning (MIL) problem. Since the positive tissue is only a small fraction of the gigapixel WSI, existing MIL methods intuitively focus on identifying salient instances via attention mechanisms. However, this leads to a bias towards easy-to-classify instances while neglecting hard-to-classify instances. Some literature has revealed that hard examples are beneficial for modeling a discriminative boundary accurately. By applying such an idea at the instance level, we elaborate a novel MIL framework with masked hard instance mining (MHIM-MIL), which uses a Siamese structure (Teacher-Student) with a consistency constraint to explore the potential hard instances. With several instance masking strategies based on attention scores, MHIM-MIL employs a momentum teacher to implicitly mine hard instances for training the student model, which can be any attention-based MIL model. This counter-intuitive strategy essentially enables the student to learn a better discriminating boundary. Moreover, the student is used to update the teacher with an exponential moving average (EMA), which in turn identifies new hard instances for subsequent training iterations and stabilizes the optimization. Experimental results on the CAMELYON-16 and TCGA Lung Cancer datasets demonstrate that MHIM-MIL outperforms other latest methods in terms of performance and training cost. All in One: Multi-task Prompting for Graph Neural NetworksXiangguo Sun, Hong Cheng, Jia Li et al.
Recently, ''pre-training and fine-tuning'' has been adopted as a standard workflow for many graph tasks since it can take general graph knowledge to relieve the lack of graph annotations from each application. However, graph tasks with node level, edge level, and graph level are far diversified, making the pre-training pretext often incompatible with these multiple tasks. This gap may even cause a ''negative transfer'' to the specific application, leading to poor results. Inspired by the prompt learning in natural language processing (NLP), which has presented significant effectiveness in leveraging prior knowledge for various NLP tasks, we study the prompting topic for graphs with the motivation of filling the gap between pre-trained models and various graph tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-task prompting method for graph models. Specifically, we first unify the format of graph prompts and language prompts with the prompt token, token structure, and inserting pattern. In this way, the prompting idea from NLP can be seamlessly introduced to the graph area. Then, to further narrow the gap between various graph tasks and state-of-the-art pre-training strategies, we further study the task space of various graph applications and reformulate downstream problems to the graph-level task. Afterward, we introduce meta-learning to efficiently learn a better initialization for the multi-task prompt of graphs so that our prompting framework can be more reliable and general for different tasks. We conduct extensive experiments, results from which demonstrate the superiority of our method.

The intricate kinematics of the human hand enable simultaneous grasping and manipulation of multiple objects, essential for tasks such as object transfer and in-hand manipulation. Despite its significance, the domain of robotic multi-object grasping is relatively unexplored and presents notable challenges in kinematics, dynamics, and object configurations. This paper introduces MultiGrasp, a novel two-stage approach for multi-object grasping using a dexterous multi-fingered robotic hand on a tabletop. The process consists of (i) generating pre-grasp proposals and (ii) executing the grasp and lifting the objects. Our experimental focus is primarily on dual-object grasping, achieving a success rate of 44.13%, highlighting adaptability to new object configurations and tolerance for imprecise grasps. Additionally, the framework demonstrates the potential for grasping more than two objects at the cost of inference speed.

Boosting Multi-Label Image Classification with Complementary Parallel Self-DistillationJiazhi Xu, Sheng Huang, Fengtao Zhou et al.
Multi-Label Image Classification (MLIC) approaches usually exploit label correlations to achieve good performance. However, emphasizing correlation like co-occurrence may overlook discriminative features of the target itself and lead to model overfitting, thus undermining the performance. In this study, we propose a generic framework named Parallel Self-Distillation (PSD) for boosting MLIC models. PSD decomposes the original MLIC task into several simpler MLIC sub-tasks via two elaborated complementary task decomposition strategies named Co-occurrence Graph Partition (CGP) and Dis-occurrence Graph Partition (DGP). Then, the MLIC models of fewer categories are trained with these sub-tasks in parallel for respectively learning the joint patterns and the category-specific patterns of labels. Finally, knowledge distillation is leveraged to learn a compact global ensemble of full categories with these learned patterns for reconciling the label correlation exploitation and model overfitting. Extensive results on MS-COCO and NUS-WIDE datasets demonstrate that our framework can be easily plugged into many MLIC approaches and improve performances of recent state-of-the-art approaches. The explainable visual study also further validates that our method is able to learn both the category-specific and co-occurring features. The ability to precisely derive mathematical objects is a core requirement for downstream STEM applications, including mathematics, physics, and chemistry, where reasoning must culminate in formally structured expressions. Yet, current LM evaluations of mathematical and scientific reasoning rely heavily on simplified answer formats such as numerical values or multiple choice options due to the convenience of automated assessment. In this paper we provide three contributions for improving reasoning over mathematical objects: (i) we build and release training data and benchmarks for deriving mathematical objects, the Principia suite; (ii) we provide training recipes with strong LLM-judges and verifiers, where we show that on-policy judge training boosts performance; (iii) we show how on-policy training can also be used to scale test-time compute via aggregation. We find that strong LMs such as Qwen3-235B and o3 struggle on Principia, while our training recipes can bring significant improvements over different LLM backbones, while simultaneously improving results on existing numerical and MCQA tasks, demonstrating cross-format generalization of reasoning abilities.

Modern large language models are built on sequence modeling via next-token prediction. While the Transformer remains the dominant architecture for sequence modeling, its quadratic decoding complexity in sequence length poses a major limitation. State-space models (SSMs) present a competitive alternative, offering linear decoding efficiency while maintaining parallelism during training. However, most existing SSMs rely on linear recurrence designs that appear somewhat ad hoc. In this work, we explore SSM design through the lens of online learning, conceptualizing SSMs as meta-modules for specific online learning problems. This approach links SSM design to formulating precise online learning objectives, with state transition rules derived from solving these objectives. Based on this insight, we introduce a novel deep SSM architecture, Longhorn, whose update resembles the closed-form solution for solving the online associative recall problem. Our experimental results show that Longhorn outperforms state-of-the-art SSMs, including the Mamba model, on standard sequence modeling benchmarks, language modeling, and vision tasks. Specifically, Longhorn achieves a 1.8x improvement in sample efficiency compared to Mamba, and can extrapolate over contexts that are up to 16x longer during inference.

Category-Prompt Refined Feature Learning for Long-Tailed Multi-Label Image ClassificationJiexuan Yan, Sheng Huang, Nankun Mu et al.
Real-world data consistently exhibits a long-tailed distribution, often spanning multiple categories. This complexity underscores the challenge of content comprehension, particularly in scenarios requiring Long-Tailed Multi-Label image Classification (LTMLC). In such contexts, imbalanced data distribution and multi-object recognition pose significant hurdles. To address this issue, we propose a novel and effective approach for LTMLC, termed Category-Prompt Refined Feature Learning (CPRFL), utilizing semantic correlations between different categories and decoupling category-specific visual representations for each category. Specifically, CPRFL initializes category-prompts from the pretrained CLIP's embeddings and decouples category-specific visual representations through interaction with visual features, thereby facilitating the establishment of semantic correlations between the head and tail classes. To mitigate the visual-semantic domain bias, we design a progressive Dual-Path Back-Propagation mechanism to refine the prompts by progressively incorporating context-related visual information into prompts. Simultaneously, the refinement process facilitates the progressive purification of the category-specific visual representations under the guidance of the refined prompts. Furthermore, taking into account the negative-positive sample imbalance, we adopt the Asymmetric Loss as our optimization objective to suppress negative samples across all classes and potentially enhance the head-to-tail recognition performance. We validate the effectiveness of our method on two LTMLC benchmarks and extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our work over baselines. SAM-MIL: A Spatial Contextual Aware Multiple Instance Learning Approach for Whole Slide Image ClassificationHeng Fang, Sheng Huang, Wenhao Tang et al.
Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) represents the predominant framework in Whole Slide Image (WSI) classification, covering aspects such as sub-typing, diagnosis, and beyond. Current MIL models predominantly rely on instance-level features derived from pretrained models such as ResNet. These models segment each WSI into independent patches and extract features from these local patches, leading to a significant loss of global spatial context and restricting the model's focus to merely local features. To address this issue, we propose a novel MIL framework, named SAM-MIL, that emphasizes spatial contextual awareness and explicitly incorporates spatial context by extracting comprehensive, image-level information. The Segment Anything Model (SAM) represents a pioneering visual segmentation foundational model that can capture segmentation features without the need for additional fine-tuning, rendering it an outstanding tool for extracting spatial context directly from raw WSIs. Our approach includes the design of group feature extraction based on spatial context and a SAM-Guided Group Masking strategy to mitigate class imbalance issues. We implement a dynamic mask ratio for different segmentation categories and supplement these with representative group features of categories. Moreover, SAM-MIL divides instances to generate additional pseudo-bags, thereby augmenting the training set, and introduces consistency of spatial context across pseudo-bags to further enhance the model's performance. Experimental results on the CAMELYON-16 and TCGA Lung Cancer datasets demonstrate that our proposed SAM-MIL model outperforms existing mainstream methods in WSIs classification. Dexterous grasping aims to produce diverse grasping postures with a high grasping success rate. Regression-based methods that directly predict grasping parameters given the object may achieve a high success rate but often lack diversity. Generation-based methods that generate grasping postures conditioned on the object can often produce diverse grasping, but they are insufficient for high grasping success due to lack of discriminative information. To mitigate, we introduce a unified diffusion-based dexterous grasp generation model, dubbed the name UGG, which operates within the object point cloud and hand parameter spaces. Our all-transformer architecture unifies the information from the object, the hand, and the contacts, introducing a novel representation of contact points for improved contact modeling. The flexibility and quality of our model enable the integration of a lightweight discriminator, benefiting from simulated discriminative data, which pushes for a high success rate while preserving high diversity. Beyond grasp generation, our model can also generate objects based on hand information, offering valuable insights into object design and studying how the generative model perceives objects. Our model achieves state-of-the-art dexterous grasping on the large-scale DexGraspNet dataset while facilitating human-centric object design, marking a significant advancement in dexterous grasping research. Metric Residual Networks for Sample Efficient Goal-Conditioned Reinforcement LearningBo Liu, Yihao Feng, Qiang Liu et al. · apple-ml
Goal-conditioned reinforcement learning (GCRL) has a wide range of potential real-world applications, including manipulation and navigation problems in robotics. Especially in such robotics tasks, sample efficiency is of the utmost importance for GCRL since, by default, the agent is only rewarded when it reaches its goal. While several methods have been proposed to improve the sample efficiency of GCRL, one relatively under-studied approach is the design of neural architectures to support sample efficiency. In this work, we introduce a novel neural architecture for GCRL that achieves significantly better sample efficiency than the commonly-used monolithic network architecture. The key insight is that the optimal action-value function Q^*(s, a, g) must satisfy the triangle inequality in a specific sense. Furthermore, we introduce the metric residual network (MRN) that deliberately decomposes the action-value function Q(s,a,g) into the negated summation of a metric plus a residual asymmetric component. MRN provably approximates any optimal action-value function Q^*(s,a,g), thus making it a fitting neural architecture for GCRL. We conduct comprehensive experiments across 12 standard benchmark environments in GCRL. The empirical results demonstrate that MRN uniformly outperforms other state-of-the-art GCRL neural architectures in terms of sample efficiency.

Automated Report-Derived Oncology VQA Benchmark for Evaluating Vision-Language Models on 3D Medical ImagingBo Liu, Hanxue Gu, Xiangru Li et al.
Evaluating vision-language models (VLMs) on medical images requires benchmarks that are clinically grounded, scalable, and controlled for evaluation confounds. Existing public benchmarks are limited in scale, manually annotated, or potentially leaked into VLM pretraining corpora. We present an automated agent-driven pipeline that generates multiple-choice VQA datasets directly from paired private radiology reports and 3D oncology imaging, producing two complementary question types: RADS-style questions deterministically derived from clinician-defined reporting schemas, and radiology report-derived questions generated by an LLM from radiologist findings and verified against the source report. Applied to four in-house cancer cohorts, the pipeline yields an instance-contamination-controlled benchmark without per-question human annotation. Zero-shot evaluation of six VLMs reveals no dominant model and substantial headroom across all cells. A blind ablation reveals that visual reliance is highly dataset-specific: liver Report-derived questions genuinely require the image, while Lung CT is essentially solvable without it - the leading closed model exceeds its sighted accuracy on Lung CT when blinded - indicating that even private clinical data does not guarantee a contamination-controlled read of visual capability. The pipeline is released as an open agent skill for in-house redeployment.

Simple Recipe Works: Vision-Language-Action Models are Natural Continual Learners with Reinforcement LearningJiaheng Hu, Jay Shim, Chen Tang et al.
Continual Reinforcement Learning (CRL) for Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models is a promising direction toward self-improving embodied agents that can adapt in openended, evolving environments. However, conventional wisdom from continual learning suggests that naive Sequential Fine-Tuning (Seq. FT) leads to catastrophic forgetting, necessitating complex CRL strategies. In this work, we take a step back and conduct a systematic study of CRL for large pretrained VLAs across three models and five challenging lifelong RL benchmarks. We find that, contrary to established belief, simple Seq. FT with low-rank adaptation (LoRA) is remarkably strong: it achieves high plasticity, exhibits little to no forgetting, and retains strong zero-shot generalization, frequently outperforming more sophisticated CRL methods. Through detailed analysis, we show that this robustness arises from a synergy between the large pretrained model, parameter-efficient adaptation, and on-policy RL. Together, these components reshape the stability-plasticity trade-off, making continual adaptation both stable and scalable. Our results position Sequential Fine-Tuning as a powerful method for continual RL with VLAs and provide new insights into lifelong learning in the large model era. EasyGen: Easing Multimodal Generation with BiDiffuser and LLMsXiangyu Zhao, Bo Liu, Qijiong Liu et al.
We present EasyGen, an efficient model designed to enhance multimodal understanding and generation by harnessing the capabilities of diffusion models and large language models (LLMs), Unlike existing multimodal models that predominately depend on encoders like CLIP or ImageBind and need ample amounts of training data to bridge modalities,EasyGen leverages BiDiffuser,a bidirectional conditional diffusion model, to foster more efficient modality interactions. Easygen achieves text generation by training a projection layer linking BiDiffuser and an LLM, and facilities image generation by training an adapter to align the LLM's text space with the BiDiffuser's image space, Comprehensive quantitative and qualitative experiments show that EasyGen excels in data-efficient training, high-quality image generation, and extendibility, effectively addressing the challenges in multimodal generation. Structure-Based Self-Triggered Consensus in Networks of Multiagents with Switching TopologiesBo Liu, Wenlian Lu, Licheng Jiao et al.
In this paper, we propose a new self-triggered consensus algorithm in networks of multi-agents. Different from existing works, which are based on the observation of states, here, each agent determines its next update time based on its coupling structure. Both centralized and distributed approaches of the algorithms have been discussed. By transforming the algorithm to a proper discrete-time systems without self delays, we established a new analysis framework to prove the convergence of the algorithm. Then we extended the algorithm to networks with switching topologies, especially stochastically switching topologies. Compared to existing works, our algorithm is easier to understand and implement. It explicitly provides positive lower and upper bounds for the update time interval of each agent based on its coupling structure, which can also be independently adjusted by each agent according to its own situation. Our work reveals that the event/self triggered algorithms are essentially discrete and more suitable to a discrete analysis framework. Numerical simulations are also provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

BOME! Bilevel Optimization Made Easy: A Simple First-Order ApproachMao Ye, Bo Liu, Stephen Wright et al.
Bilevel optimization (BO) is useful for solving a variety of important machine learning problems including but not limited to hyperparameter optimization, meta-learning, continual learning, and reinforcement learning. Conventional BO methods need to differentiate through the low-level optimization process with implicit differentiation, which requires expensive calculations related to the Hessian matrix. There has been a recent quest for first-order methods for BO, but the methods proposed to date tend to be complicated and impractical for large-scale deep learning applications. In this work, we propose a simple first-order BO algorithm that depends only on first-order gradient information, requires no implicit differentiation, and is practical and efficient for large-scale non-convex functions in deep learning. We provide non-asymptotic convergence analysis of the proposed method to stationary points for non-convex objectives and present empirical results that show its superior practical performance.

Effective Mutation Rate Adaptation through Group Elite SelectionAkarsh Kumar, Bo Liu, Risto Miikkulainen et al.
Evolutionary algorithms are sensitive to the mutation rate (MR); no single value of this parameter works well across domains. Self-adaptive MR approaches have been proposed but they tend to be brittle: Sometimes they decay the MR to zero, thus halting evolution. To make self-adaptive MR robust, this paper introduces the Group Elite Selection of Mutation Rates (GESMR) algorithm. GESMR co-evolves a population of solutions and a population of MRs, such that each MR is assigned to a group of solutions. The resulting best mutational change in the group, instead of average mutational change, is used for MR selection during evolution, thus avoiding the vanishing MR problem. With the same number of function evaluations and with almost no overhead, GESMR converges faster and to better solutions than previous approaches on a wide range of continuous test optimization problems. GESMR also scales well to high-dimensional neuroevolution for supervised image-classification tasks and for reinforcement learning control tasks. Remarkably, GESMR produces MRs that are optimal in the long-term, as demonstrated through a comprehensive look-ahead grid search. Thus, GESMR and its theoretical and empirical analysis demonstrate how self-adaptation can be harnessed to improve performance in several applications of evolutionary computation.

MieDB-100k: A Comprehensive Dataset for Medical Image EditingYongfan Lai, Wen Qian, Bo Liu et al.
The scarcity of high-quality data remains a primary bottleneck in adapting multimodal generative models for medical image editing. Existing medical image editing datasets often suffer from limited diversity, neglect of medical image understanding and inability to balance quality with scalability. To address these gaps, we propose MieDB-100k, a large-scale, high-quality and diverse dataset for text-guided medical image editing. It categorizes editing tasks into perspectives of Perception, Modification and Transformation, considering both understanding and generation abilities. We construct MieDB-100k via a data curation pipeline leveraging both modality-specific expert models and rule-based data synthetic methods, followed by rigorous manual inspection to ensure clinical fidelity. Extensive experiments demonstrate that model trained with MieDB-100k consistently outperform both open-source and proprietary models while exhibiting strong generalization ability. We anticipate that this dataset will serve as a cornerstone for future advancements in specialized medical image editing.

Hierarchical Spatio-Temporal Representation Learning for Gait RecognitionLei Wang, Bo Liu, Fangfang Liang et al.
Gait recognition is a biometric technique that identifies individuals by their unique walking styles, which is suitable for unconstrained environments and has a wide range of applications. While current methods focus on exploiting body part-based representations, they often neglect the hierarchical dependencies between local motion patterns. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical spatio-temporal representation learning (HSTL) framework for extracting gait features from coarse to fine. Our framework starts with a hierarchical clustering analysis to recover multi-level body structures from the whole body to local details. Next, an adaptive region-based motion extractor (ARME) is designed to learn region-independent motion features. The proposed HSTL then stacks multiple ARMEs in a top-down manner, with each ARME corresponding to a specific partition level of the hierarchy. An adaptive spatio-temporal pooling (ASTP) module is used to capture gait features at different levels of detail to perform hierarchical feature mapping. Finally, a frame-level temporal aggregation (FTA) module is employed to reduce redundant information in gait sequences through multi-scale temporal downsampling. Extensive experiments on CASIA-B, OUMVLP, GREW, and Gait3D datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art while maintaining a reasonable balance between model accuracy and complexity.

Detecting Generated Images by Real Images OnlyXiuli Bi, Bo Liu, Fan Yang et al.
As deep learning technology continues to evolve, the images yielded by generative models are becoming more and more realistic, triggering people to question the authenticity of images. Existing generated image detection methods detect visual artifacts in generated images or learn discriminative features from both real and generated images by massive training. This learning paradigm will result in efficiency and generalization issues, making detection methods always lag behind generation methods. This paper approaches the generated image detection problem from a new perspective: Start from real images. By finding the commonality of real images and mapping them to a dense subspace in feature space, the goal is that generated images, regardless of their generative model, are then projected outside the subspace. As a result, images from different generative models can be detected, solving some long-existing problems in the field. Experimental results show that although our method was trained only by real images and uses 99.9\% less training data than other deep learning-based methods, it can compete with state-of-the-art methods and shows excellent performance in detecting emerging generative models with high inference efficiency. Moreover, the proposed method shows robustness against various post-processing. These advantages allow the method to be used in real-world scenarios.

AlignVE: Visual Entailment Recognition Based on Alignment RelationsBiwei Cao, Jiuxin Cao, Jie Gui et al.
Visual entailment (VE) is to recognize whether the semantics of a hypothesis text can be inferred from the given premise image, which is one special task among recent emerged vision and language understanding tasks. Currently, most of the existing VE approaches are derived from the methods of visual question answering. They recognize visual entailment by quantifying the similarity between the hypothesis and premise in the content semantic features from multi modalities. Such approaches, however, ignore the VE's unique nature of relation inference between the premise and hypothesis. Therefore, in this paper, a new architecture called AlignVE is proposed to solve the visual entailment problem with a relation interaction method. It models the relation between the premise and hypothesis as an alignment matrix. Then it introduces a pooling operation to get feature vectors with a fixed size. Finally, it goes through the fully-connected layer and normalization layer to complete the classification. Experiments show that our alignment-based architecture reaches 72.45\% accuracy on SNLI-VE dataset, outperforming previous content-based models under the same settings.

WeatherRemover: All-in-one Adverse Weather Removal with Multi-scale Feature Map CompressionWeikai Qu, Sijun Liang, Cheng Pan et al.
Photographs taken in adverse weather conditions often suffer from blurriness, occlusion, and low brightness due to interference from rain, snow, and fog. These issues can significantly hinder the performance of subsequent computer vision tasks, making the removal of weather effects a crucial step in image enhancement. Existing methods primarily target specific weather conditions, with only a few capable of handling multiple weather scenarios. However, mainstream approaches often overlook performance considerations, resulting in large parameter sizes, long inference times, and high memory costs. In this study, we introduce the WeatherRemover model, designed to enhance the restoration of images affected by various weather conditions while balancing performance. Our model adopts a UNet-like structure with a gating mechanism and a multi-scale pyramid vision Transformer. It employs channel-wise attention derived from convolutional neural networks to optimize feature extraction, while linear spatial reduction helps curtail the computational demands of attention. The gating mechanisms, strategically placed within the feed-forward and downsampling phases, refine the processing of information by selectively addressing redundancy and mitigating its influence on learning. This approach facilitates the adaptive selection of essential data, ensuring superior restoration and maximizing efficiency. Additionally, our lightweight model achieves an optimal balance between restoration quality, parameter efficiency, computational overhead, and memory usage, distinguishing it from other multi-weather models, thereby meeting practical application demands effectively. Data, Data Everywhere: A Guide for Pretraining Dataset ConstructionJupinder Parmar, Shrimai Prabhumoye, Joseph Jennings et al.
The impressive capabilities of recent language models can be largely attributed to the multi-trillion token pretraining datasets that they are trained on. However, model developers fail to disclose their construction methodology which has lead to a lack of open information on how to develop effective pretraining sets. To address this issue, we perform the first systematic study across the entire pipeline of pretraining set construction. First, we run ablations on existing techniques for pretraining set development to identify which methods translate to the largest gains in model accuracy on downstream evaluations. Then, we categorize the most widely used data source, web crawl snapshots, across the attributes of toxicity, quality, type of speech, and domain. Finally, we show how such attribute information can be used to further refine and improve the quality of a pretraining set. These findings constitute an actionable set of steps that practitioners can use to develop high quality pretraining sets.

How Does a Deep Learning Model Architecture Impact Its Privacy? A Comprehensive Study of Privacy Attacks on CNNs and TransformersGuangsheng Zhang, Bo Liu, Huan Tian et al.
As a booming research area in the past decade, deep learning technologies have been driven by big data collected and processed on an unprecedented scale. However, privacy concerns arise due to the potential leakage of sensitive information from the training data. Recent research has revealed that deep learning models are vulnerable to various privacy attacks, including membership inference attacks, attribute inference attacks, and gradient inversion attacks. Notably, the efficacy of these attacks varies from model to model. In this paper, we answer a fundamental question: Does model architecture affect model privacy? By investigating representative model architectures from convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to Transformers, we demonstrate that Transformers generally exhibit higher vulnerability to privacy attacks than CNNs. Additionally, we identify the micro design of activation layers, stem layers, and LN layers, as major factors contributing to the resilience of CNNs against privacy attacks, while the presence of attention modules is another main factor that exacerbates the privacy vulnerability of Transformers. Our discovery reveals valuable insights for deep learning models to defend against privacy attacks and inspires the research community to develop privacy-friendly model architectures.

ECG-R1: Protocol-Guided and Modality-Agnostic MLLM for Reliable ECG InterpretationJiarui Jin, Haoyu Wang, Xingliang Wu et al.
Electrocardiography (ECG) serves as an indispensable diagnostic tool in clinical practice, yet existing multimodal large language models (MLLMs) remain unreliable for ECG interpretation, often producing plausible but clinically incorrect analyses. To address this, we propose ECG-R1, the first reasoning MLLM designed for reliable ECG interpretation via three innovations. First, we construct the interpretation corpus using \textit{Protocol-Guided Instruction Data Generation}, grounding interpretation in measurable ECG features and monograph-defined quantitative thresholds and diagnostic logic. Second, we present a modality-decoupled architecture with \textit{Interleaved Modality Dropout} to improve robustness and cross-modal consistency when either the ECG signal or ECG image is missing. Third, we present \textit{Reinforcement Learning with ECG Diagnostic Evidence Rewards} to strengthen evidence-grounded ECG interpretation. Additionally, we systematically evaluate the ECG interpretation capabilities of proprietary, open-source, and medical MLLMs, and provide the first quantitative evidence that severe hallucinations are widespread, suggesting that the public should not directly trust these outputs without independent verification. FSVideo: Fast Speed Video Diffusion Model in a Highly-Compressed Latent SpaceFSVideo Team, Qingyu Chen, Zhiyuan Fang et al.
We introduce FSVideo, a fast speed transformer-based image-to-video (I2V) diffusion framework. We build our framework on the following key components: 1.) a new video autoencoder with highly-compressed latent space ($64\times64\times4$ spatial-temporal downsampling ratio), achieving competitive reconstruction quality; 2.) a diffusion transformer (DIT) architecture with a new layer memory design to enhance inter-layer information flow and context reuse within DIT, and 3.) a multi-resolution generation strategy via a few-step DIT upsampler to increase video fidelity. Our final model, which contains a 14B DIT base model and a 14B DIT upsampler, achieves competitive performance against other popular open-source models, while being an order of magnitude faster. We discuss our model design as well as training strategies in this report.

Semantic-diversity transfer network for generalized zero-shot learning via inner disagreement based OOD detectorBo Liu, Qiulei Dong, Zhanyi Hu
Zero-shot learning (ZSL) aims to recognize objects from unseen classes, where the kernel problem is to transfer knowledge from seen classes to unseen classes by establishing appropriate mappings between visual and semantic features. The knowledge transfer in many existing works is limited mainly due to the facts that 1) the widely used visual features are global ones but not totally consistent with semantic attributes; 2) only one mapping is learned in existing works, which is not able to effectively model diverse visual-semantic relations; 3) the bias problem in the generalized ZSL (GZSL) could not be effectively handled. In this paper, we propose two techniques to alleviate these limitations. Firstly, we propose a Semantic-diversity transfer Network (SetNet) addressing the first two limitations, where 1) a multiple-attention architecture and a diversity regularizer are proposed to learn multiple local visual features that are more consistent with semantic attributes and 2) a projector ensemble that geometrically takes diverse local features as inputs is proposed to model visual-semantic relations from diverse local perspectives. Secondly, we propose an inner disagreement based domain detection module (ID3M) for GZSL to alleviate the third limitation, which picks out unseen-class data before class-level classification. Due to the absence of unseen-class data in training stage, ID3M employs a novel self-contained training scheme and detects out unseen-class data based on a designed inner disagreement criterion. Experimental results on three public datasets demonstrate that the proposed SetNet with the explored ID3M achieves a significant improvement against $30$ state-of-the-art methods.

Reliability is extremely important for large-scale cloud systems like Microsoft 365. Cloud failures such as disk failure, node failure, etc. threaten service reliability, resulting in online service interruptions and economic loss. Existing works focus on predicting cloud failures and proactively taking action before failures happen. However, they suffer from poor data quality like data missing in model training and prediction, which limits the performance. In this paper, we focus on enhancing data quality through data imputation by the proposed Diffusion+, a sample-efficient diffusion model, to impute the missing data efficiently based on the observed data. Our experiments and application practice show that our model contributes to improving the performance of the downstream failure prediction task.

RT-SRTS: Angle-Agnostic Real-Time Simultaneous 3D Reconstruction and Tumor Segmentation from Single X-Ray ProjectionMiao Zhu, Qiming Fu, Bo Liu et al.
Radiotherapy is one of the primary treatment methods for tumors, but the organ movement caused by respiration limits its accuracy. Recently, 3D imaging from a single X-ray projection has received extensive attention as a promising approach to address this issue. However, current methods can only reconstruct 3D images without directly locating the tumor and are only validated for fixed-angle imaging, which fails to fully meet the requirements of motion control in radiotherapy. In this study, a novel imaging method RT-SRTS is proposed which integrates 3D imaging and tumor segmentation into one network based on multi-task learning (MTL) and achieves real-time simultaneous 3D reconstruction and tumor segmentation from a single X-ray projection at any angle. Furthermore, the attention enhanced calibrator (AEC) and uncertain-region elaboration (URE) modules have been proposed to aid feature extraction and improve segmentation accuracy. The proposed method was evaluated on fifteen patient cases and compared with three state-of-the-art methods. It not only delivers superior 3D reconstruction but also demonstrates commendable tumor segmentation results. Simultaneous reconstruction and segmentation can be completed in approximately 70 ms, significantly faster than the required time threshold for real-time tumor tracking. DeepSeek-V2: A Strong, Economical, and Efficient Mixture-of-Experts Language ModelDeepSeek-AI, Aixin Liu, Bei Feng et al. · pku
We present DeepSeek-V2, a strong Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model characterized by economical training and efficient inference. It comprises 236B total parameters, of which 21B are activated for each token, and supports a context length of 128K tokens. DeepSeek-V2 adopts innovative architectures including Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) and DeepSeekMoE. MLA guarantees efficient inference through significantly compressing the Key-Value (KV) cache into a latent vector, while DeepSeekMoE enables training strong models at an economical cost through sparse computation. Compared with DeepSeek 67B, DeepSeek-V2 achieves significantly stronger performance, and meanwhile saves 42.5% of training costs, reduces the KV cache by 93.3%, and boosts the maximum generation throughput to 5.76 times. We pretrain DeepSeek-V2 on a high-quality and multi-source corpus consisting of 8.1T tokens, and further perform Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) to fully unlock its potential. Evaluation results show that, even with only 21B activated parameters, DeepSeek-V2 and its chat versions still achieve top-tier performance among open-source models.

SciEvalKit: An Open-source Evaluation Toolkit for Scientific General IntelligenceYiheng Wang, Yixin Chen, Shuo Li et al.
We introduce SciEvalKit, a unified benchmarking toolkit designed to evaluate AI models for science across a broad range of scientific disciplines and task capabilities. Unlike general-purpose evaluation platforms, SciEvalKit focuses on the core competencies of scientific intelligence, including Scientific Multimodal Perception, Scientific Multimodal Reasoning, Scientific Multimodal Understanding, Scientific Symbolic Reasoning, Scientific Code Generation, Science Hypothesis Generation and Scientific Knowledge Understanding. It supports six major scientific domains, spanning from physics and chemistry to astronomy and materials science. SciEvalKit builds a foundation of expert-grade scientific benchmarks, curated from real-world, domain-specific datasets, ensuring that tasks reflect authentic scientific challenges. The toolkit features a flexible, extensible evaluation pipeline that enables batch evaluation across models and datasets, supports custom model and dataset integration, and provides transparent, reproducible, and comparable results. By bridging capability-based evaluation and disciplinary diversity, SciEvalKit offers a standardized yet customizable infrastructure to benchmark the next generation of scientific foundation models and intelligent agents. The toolkit is open-sourced and actively maintained to foster community-driven development and progress in AI4Science.

No Place to Hide: Dual Deep Interaction Channel Network for Fake News Detection based on Data AugmentationBiwei Cao, Lulu Hua, Jiuxin Cao et al.
Online Social Network (OSN) has become a hotbed of fake news due to the low cost of information dissemination. Although the existing methods have made many attempts in news content and propagation structure, the detection of fake news is still facing two challenges: one is how to mine the unique key features and evolution patterns, and the other is how to tackle the problem of small samples to build the high-performance model. Different from popular methods which take full advantage of the propagation topology structure, in this paper, we propose a novel framework for fake news detection from perspectives of semantic, emotion and data enhancement, which excavates the emotional evolution patterns of news participants during the propagation process, and a dual deep interaction channel network of semantic and emotion is designed to obtain a more comprehensive and fine-grained news representation with the consideration of comments. Meanwhile, the framework introduces a data enhancement module to obtain more labeled data with high quality based on confidence which further improves the performance of the classification model. Experiments show that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Exploring Winograd Convolution for Cost-effective Neural Network Fault ToleranceXinghua Xue, Cheng Liu, Bo Liu et al.
Winograd is generally utilized to optimize convolution performance and computational efficiency because of the reduced multiplication operations, but the reliability issues brought by winograd are usually overlooked. In this work, we observe the great potential of winograd convolution in improving neural network (NN) fault tolerance. Based on the observation, we evaluate winograd convolution fault tolerance comprehensively from different granularities ranging from models, layers, and operation types for the first time. Then, we explore the use of inherent fault tolerance of winograd convolution for cost-effective NN protection against soft errors. Specifically, we mainly investigate how winograd convolution can be effectively incorporated with classical fault-tolerant design approaches including triple modular redundancy (TMR), fault-aware retraining, and constrained activation functions. According to our experiments, winograd convolution can reduce the fault-tolerant design overhead by 55.77\% on average without any accuracy loss compared to standard convolution, and further reduce the computing overhead by 17.24\% when the inherent fault tolerance of winograd convolution is considered. When it is applied on fault-tolerant neural networks enhanced with fault-aware retraining and constrained activation functions, the resulting model accuracy generally shows significant improvement in presence of various faults.

Causal-Story: Local Causal Attention Utilizing Parameter-Efficient Tuning For Visual Story SynthesisTianyi Song, Jiuxin Cao, Kun Wang et al.
The excellent text-to-image synthesis capability of diffusion models has driven progress in synthesizing coherent visual stories. The current state-of-the-art method combines the features of historical captions, historical frames, and the current captions as conditions for generating the current frame. However, this method treats each historical frame and caption as the same contribution. It connects them in order with equal weights, ignoring that not all historical conditions are associated with the generation of the current frame. To address this issue, we propose Causal-Story. This model incorporates a local causal attention mechanism that considers the causal relationship between previous captions, frames, and current captions. By assigning weights based on this relationship, Causal-Story generates the current frame, thereby improving the global consistency of story generation. We evaluated our model on the PororoSV and FlintstonesSV datasets and obtained state-of-the-art FID scores, and the generated frames also demonstrate better storytelling in visuals.

EvoRubric: Self-Evolving Rubric-Driven RL for Open-Ended GenerationXin Guan, Xiaomeng Hu, Shen Huang et al.
Reinforcement Learning (RL) has significantly advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) in verifiable domains, but aligning models for open-ended generation remains profoundly challenging due to the lack of definitive rewards. Current rubric-based RL methods mitigate this by employing explicit criteria; however, they rely heavily on static, human-annotated rubrics that inevitably cause policy lag, or expensive external proprietary models for dynamic updates. In this paper, we propose EvoRubric, a novel single-policy co-evolutionary RL framework that eliminates the reliance on static criteria and on external rubric generators. By unifying response generation and rubric generation under a single parameterized policy, EvoRubric dynamically alternates between a Reasoner and a Rubric Generator. To prevent reward hacking and ensure the reliability of generated signals, we introduce a multi-level verification pipeline featuring a meta-verifier, zero-variance pruning, and a Leave-One-Out peer consensus mechanism. Validated criteria are dynamically archived into a memory pool, yielding dense, multi-objective rewards to continuously co-optimize both roles. Extensive experiments across Medical, Writing, and Science domains demonstrate that EvoRubric consistently outperforms traditional static and external-LLM-driven alignment methods. Notably, our framework is compatible with human-expert priors. When initialized with expert-annotated rubrics, EvoRubric can further uncover novel, discriminative dimensions, achieving better performance than relying solely on static expert annotations.
