Ensuring Interaction Safety in Multitask Exoskeleton Control: A Simulation-Trained Variable Impedance FrameworkMuyuan Ma, Houcheng Li, Haotian Zhai et al.
Wearable exoskeletons can augment human phys ical capabilities during complex activities. However, ensuring adaptation across diverse tasks while guaranteeing interaction safety remains a critical challenge. To address this, a simulation trained variable impedance control approach with stability guarantees is proposed. First, a simulation-based human exoskeleton motion data generation pipeline is established, utilizing Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) to synthesize human muscle activations while the exoskeleton provides direct compensation for human biological joint torques. Subsequently, the generated dataset is used to train a dual modality policy that fuses semantic instructions with proprioceptive history, enabling the prediction of reference trajectories and variable impedance gains for nine different motion tasks. To guarantee safety, the network outputs are constrained by a stability criterion derived from Lyapunov stability theory, which bounds stiffness variations to ensure the asymptotic stability of the coupled system. Experimental results indicate that the proposed framework reduces metabolic cost in real-world scenarios com pared with standard baseline methods. These findings suggest the feasibility of the proposed framework for safe, multitask exoskeleton control.

4D Monocular Surgical Reconstruction under Arbitrary Camera MotionsJiwei Shan, Zeyu Cai, Cheng-Tai Hsieh et al.
Reconstructing deformable surgical scenes from endoscopic videos is challenging and clinically important. Recent state-of-the-art methods based on implicit neural representations or 3D Gaussian splatting have made notable progress. However, most are designed for deformable scenes with fixed endoscope viewpoints and rely on stereo depth priors or accurate structure-from-motion for initialization and optimization, limiting their ability to handle monocular sequences with large camera motion in real clinical settings. To address this, we propose Local-EndoGS, a high-quality 4D reconstruction framework for monocular endoscopic sequences with arbitrary camera motion. Local-EndoGS introduces a progressive, window-based global representation that allocates local deformable scene models to each observed window, enabling scalability to long sequences with substantial motion. To overcome unreliable initialization without stereo depth or accurate structure-from-motion, we design a coarse-to-fine strategy integrating multi-view geometry, cross-window information, and monocular depth priors, providing a robust foundation for optimization. We further incorporate long-range 2D pixel trajectory constraints and physical motion priors to improve deformation plausibility. Experiments on three public endoscopic datasets with deformable scenes and varying camera motions show that Local-EndoGS consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in appearance quality and geometry. From Reach to Insert: Tactile-Augmented Precision Assembly under Sub-Millimeter TolerancesXinpan Meng, Siyao Huang, JingPu Yang et al.
High-precision assembly frequently involves tight-tolerance insertions, where even slight pose errors can cause jamming or excessive interaction forces, making robust and safe insertion policies difficult to obtain. This paper proposes a tactile-augmented two-stage method that combines Imitation Learning (IL) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) for precision insertion tasks. In the first stage, IL learns a reaching policy with position generalization that grasps the peg and brings it to the vicinity of the target region. In the second stage, RL executes the insertion and enables recovery from failures during contact-rich interactions. To better exploit tactile feedback, we introduce tactile group sampling to increase coverage of critical contact segments during training, and design a tactile critic to more accurately evaluate policy values, improving insertion performance while maintaining low contact forces. We conduct systematic experiments across five hole geometries and three clearance settings. Results show that our method substantially improves insertion performance across all settings; under the most challenging 0.05\,mm clearance, it achieves a 67\% success rate while keeping contact forces low, reducing the maximum interaction force by 60\% and torque by 44\%, thereby validating both effectiveness and safety for precision assembly.

NRGS-SLAM: Monocular Non-Rigid SLAM for Endoscopy via Deformation-Aware 3D Gaussian SplattingJiwei Shan, Zeyu Cai, Yirui Li et al.
Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (V-SLAM) is a fundamental capability for autonomous perception and navigation. However, endoscopic scenes violate the rigidity assumption due to persistent soft-tissue deformations, creating a strong coupling ambiguity between camera ego-motion and intrinsic deformation. Although recent monocular non-rigid SLAM methods have made notable progress, they often lack effective decoupling mechanisms and rely on sparse or low-fidelity scene representations, which leads to tracking drift and limited reconstruction quality. To address these limitations, we propose NRGS-SLAM, a monocular non-rigid SLAM system for endoscopy based on 3D Gaussian Splatting. To resolve the coupling ambiguity, we introduce a deformation-aware 3D Gaussian map that augments each Gaussian primitive with a learnable deformation probability, optimized via a Bayesian self-supervision strategy without requiring external non-rigidity labels. Building on this representation, we design a deformable tracking module that performs robust coarse-to-fine pose estimation by prioritizing low-deformation regions, followed by efficient per-frame deformation updates. A carefully designed deformable mapping module progressively expands and refines the map, balancing representational capacity and computational efficiency. In addition, a unified robust geometric loss incorporates external geometric priors to mitigate the inherent ill-posedness of monocular non-rigid SLAM. Extensive experiments on multiple public endoscopic datasets demonstrate that NRGS-SLAM achieves more accurate camera pose estimation (up to 50\% reduction in RMSE) and higher-quality photo-realistic reconstructions than state-of-the-art methods. Comprehensive ablation studies further validate the effectiveness of our key design choices. Source code will be publicly available upon paper acceptance.

FreeDriveRF: Monocular RGB Dynamic NeRF without Poses for Autonomous Driving via Point-Level Dynamic-Static DecouplingYue Wen, Liang Song, Yijia Liu et al.
Dynamic scene reconstruction for autonomous driving enables vehicles to perceive and interpret complex scene changes more precisely. Dynamic Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) have recently shown promising capability in scene modeling. However, many existing methods rely heavily on accurate poses inputs and multi-sensor data, leading to increased system complexity. To address this, we propose FreeDriveRF, which reconstructs dynamic driving scenes using only sequential RGB images without requiring poses inputs. We innovatively decouple dynamic and static parts at the early sampling level using semantic supervision, mitigating image blurring and artifacts. To overcome the challenges posed by object motion and occlusion in monocular camera, we introduce a warped ray-guided dynamic object rendering consistency loss, utilizing optical flow to better constrain the dynamic modeling process. Additionally, we incorporate estimated dynamic flow to constrain the pose optimization process, improving the stability and accuracy of unbounded scene reconstruction. Extensive experiments conducted on the KITTI and Waymo datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our method in dynamic scene modeling for autonomous driving.

Learning a General Model: Folding Clothing with Topological DynamicsYiming Liu, Lijun Han, Enlin Gu et al.
The high degrees of freedom and complex structure of garments present significant challenges for clothing manipulation. In this paper, we propose a general topological dynamics model to fold complex clothing. By utilizing the visible folding structure as the topological skeleton, we design a novel topological graph to represent the clothing state. This topological graph is low-dimensional and applied for complex clothing in various folding states. It indicates the constraints of clothing and enables predictions regarding clothing movement. To extract graphs from self-occlusion, we apply semantic segmentation to analyze the occlusion relationships and decompose the clothing structure. The decomposed structure is then combined with keypoint detection to generate the topological graph. To analyze the behavior of the topological graph, we employ an improved Graph Neural Network (GNN) to learn the general dynamics. The GNN model can predict the deformation of clothing and is employed to calculate the deformation Jacobi matrix for control. Experiments using jackets validate the algorithm's effectiveness to recognize and fold complex clothing with self-occlusion.

Action Planning for Packing Long Linear Elastic Objects into Compact Boxes with Bimanual Robotic ManipulationWanyu Ma, Bin Zhang, Lijun Han et al.
In this paper, we propose a new action planning approach to automatically pack long linear elastic objects into common-size boxes with a bimanual robotic system. For that, we developed a hybrid geometric model to handle large-scale occlusions combining an online vision-based method and an offline reference template. Then, a reference point generator is introduced to automatically plan the reference poses for the predesigned action primitives. Finally, an action planner integrates these components enabling the execution of high-level behaviors and the accomplishment of packing manipulation tasks. To validate the proposed approach, we conducted a detailed experimental study with multiple types and lengths of objects and packing boxes.
