High accuracy analysis of a nonconforming discrete Stokes complex over rectangular meshes

Xinchen Zhou, Zhaoliang Meng, Xin Fan et al.

This work is devoted to the high accuracy analysis of a discrete Stokes complex over rectangular meshes with a simple structure. The 0-form in the complex is a non $C^0$ nonconforming element space for biharmonic problems. This plate element contains only 12 degrees of freedom (DoFs) over a rectangular cell with a zeroth order weak continuity for the normal derivative, therefore only the lowest convergence order can be obtained by a standard consistency error analysis. Nevertheless, we prove that, if the rectangular mesh is uniform, an $O(h^2)$ convergence rate in discrete $H^2$-norm will be achieved. Moreover, based on a duality argument, it has an $O(h^3)$ convergence order in discrete $H^1$-norm if the solution region is convex. The 1-form and 2-form constitute a divergence-free pair for incompressible flow. We also show its higher accuracy than that derived from a usual error estimate under uniform partitions, which explains the phenomenon observed in our previous work. Numerical tests verify our theoretical results.

Enhancing Infrared Vision: Progressive Prompt Fusion Network and Benchmark

Jinyuan Liu, Zihang Chen, Zhu Liu et al.

We engage in the relatively underexplored task named thermal infrared image enhancement. Existing infrared image enhancement methods primarily focus on tackling individual degradations, such as noise, contrast, and blurring, making it difficult to handle coupled degradations. Meanwhile, all-in-one enhancement methods, commonly applied to RGB sensors, often demonstrate limited effectiveness due to the significant differences in imaging models. In sight of this, we first revisit the imaging mechanism and introduce a Progressive Prompt Fusion Network (PPFN). Specifically, the PPFN initially establishes prompt pairs based on the thermal imaging process. For each type of degradation, we fuse the corresponding prompt pairs to modulate the model's features, providing adaptive guidance that enables the model to better address specific degradations under single or multiple conditions. In addition, a Selective Progressive Training (SPT) mechanism is introduced to gradually refine the model's handling of composite cases to align the enhancement process, which not only allows the model to remove camera noise and retain key structural details, but also enhancing the overall contrast of the thermal image. Furthermore, we introduce the most high-quality, multi-scenarios infrared benchmark covering a wide range of scenarios. Extensive experiments substantiate that our approach not only delivers promising visual results under specific degradation but also significantly improves performance on complex degradation scenes, achieving a notable 8.76\% improvement. Mining Functional Modules by Multiview-NMF of Phenome-Genome Association

YaoGong Zhang, YingJie Xu, Xin Fan et al.

Background: Mining gene modules from genomic data is an important step to detect gene members of pathways or other relations such as protein-protein interactions. In this work, we explore the plausibility of detecting gene modules by factorizing gene-phenotype associations from a phenotype ontology rather than the conventionally used gene expression data. In particular, the hierarchical structure of ontology has not been sufficiently utilized in clustering genes while functionally related genes are consistently associated with phenotypes on the same path in the phenotype ontology. Results: We propose a hierarchal Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF)-based method, called Consistent Multiple Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (CMNMF), to factorize genome-phenome association matrix at two levels of the hierarchical structure in phenotype ontology for mining gene functional modules. CMNMF constrains the gene clusters from the association matrices at two consecutive levels to be consistent since the genes are annotated with both the child phenotype and the parent phenotype in the consecutive levels. CMNMF also restricts the identified phenotype clusters to be densely connected in the phenotype ontology hierarchy. In the experiments on mining functionally related genes from mouse phenotype ontology and human phenotype ontology, CMNMF effectively improved clustering performance over the baseline methods. Gene ontology enrichment analysis was also conducted to reveal interesting gene modules. Conclusions: Utilizing the information in the hierarchical structure of phenotype ontology, CMNMF can identify functional gene modules with more biological significance than the conventional methods. CMNMF could also be a better tool for predicting members of gene pathways and protein-protein interactions. Availability: https://github.com/nkiip/CMNMF

Converged Deep Framework Assembling Principled Modules for CS-MRI

Risheng Liu, Yuxi Zhang, Shichao Cheng et al.

Compressed Sensing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CS-MRI) significantly accelerates MR data acquisition at a sampling rate much lower than the Nyquist criterion. A major challenge for CS-MRI lies in solving the severely ill-posed inverse problem to reconstruct aliasing-free MR images from the sparse k-space data. Conventional methods typically optimize an energy function, producing reconstruction of high quality, but their iterative numerical solvers unavoidably bring extremely slow processing. Recent data-driven techniques are able to provide fast restoration by either learning direct prediction to final reconstruction or plugging learned modules into the energy optimizer. Nevertheless, these data-driven predictors cannot guarantee the reconstruction following constraints underlying the regularizers of conventional methods so that the reliability of their reconstruction results are questionable. In this paper, we propose a converged deep framework assembling principled modules for CS-MRI that fuses learning strategy with the iterative solver of a conventional reconstruction energy. This framework embeds an optimal condition checking mechanism, fostering \emph{efficient} and \emph{reliable} reconstruction. We also apply the framework to two practical tasks, \emph{i.e.}, parallel imaging and reconstruction with Rician noise. Extensive experiments on both benchmark and manufacturer-testing images demonstrate that the proposed method reliably converges to the optimal solution more efficiently and accurately than the state-of-the-art in various scenarios.
