DeltaV: Thinking with Visual State Updates in Unified Large Multimodal Models

Pengjie Wang, Linger Deng, Zujia Zhang et al.

Current Unified Large Multimodal Models (ULMMs) support interleaved multimodal reasoning through textual reasoning and intermediate visual states, but typically generate each visual state as a full image. This full-image generation paradigm introduces substantial visual-token redundancy and dilutes supervision on sparse yet reasoning-critical state transitions. We propose DeltaV, a ULMM that replaces full-image generation with visual updates. Conditioned on historical visual states, DeltaV incrementally predicts compact update tokens that capture the visual changes across reasoning steps, avoiding repeated modeling of unchanged content. To align the token budget of each update with the magnitude of visual change, DeltaV introduces a temporal similarity (TSIM) Router, which stops allocating tokens once the marginal reconstruction gain falls below a threshold. To support more diverse and generalizable reasoning, we further construct StructCoT, a large-scale interleaved multimodal reasoning dataset with 1.05M samples spanning 44 task domains. Experiments show that the visual-update paradigm reduces newly generated visual tokens by 55.6\% on average without compromising reconstruction fidelity, and improves multimodal reasoning by 3.3\% over full-image generation. Trained with StructCoT and large-scale multimodal data, DeltaV-2B further outperforms substantially larger open-source models by 8.4\% on in-domain multimodal reasoning evaluations and surpasses the comparable-scale Qwen3-VL-2B by 5.9\% on external multimodal reasoning and understanding benchmarks. Code, models, and StructCoT will be released at https://github.com/Pengjie-W/DeltaV.

EscFOA: Enhancing Spatial Learning for Visually Impaired Learners via Generative Spatial Audio in 360-Degree Educational Environments

Ziyu Luo, Xiaowei Dai, Siying Zhu et al.

Immersive 360-degree educational environments often lack accessible spatial structure, limiting visually impaired learners' ability to orient, explore, and construct mental representations. This paper proposes EscFOA, a geometry-aware spatial audio generation framework designed as an \emph{acoustic scaffolding} to support spatial cognition. By integrating 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) with conditional diffusion models, EscFOA reconstructs scene geometry from 360-degree videos to synthesize high-fidelity spatial audio consistent with the environmental structure. Explicitly targeting learning outcomes like independent spatial orientation and reduced cognitive load, EscFOA significantly outperforms conventional monaural and stereo audio in supporting spatial learning behaviors among blindfolded sighted participants (simulating visually impaired learners). These findings demonstrate that geometry-consistent generative audio can effectively enable inclusive access to complex spatial learning materials.

FUSE: FK-Steered Multi-Modal Flow Matching for Efficient Simulation-Based Posterior Estimation

Weichen Qin, Yufan Xie, Peihao Wang et al.

Simulation-Based Inference (SBI) is critical for scientific discovery, with generative models offering a promising path toward efficient inference. However, existing methods struggle with effective multimodal modeling. They often rely on brute-force fusion strategies that ignore the structural disparities between parameters and observations, thus limiting estimation fidelity. In this work, we introduce FUSE (Feynman-Kac steered mUlti-modal flow matching for efficient Simulation-based posterior Estimation). Unlike prior work, FUSE employs a dual-track architecture that preserves the distinct features of multimodal inputs while facilitating dynamic interaction. Additionally, we propose an FK-steered sampling strategy that leverages intermediate observation likelihoods to guide the generative trajectories, effectively improving the sample quality during inference. Our approach outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on standard SBI benchmarks, producing posteriors that closely match ground-truth MCMC. Furthermore, in a real-world exoplanet orbital estimation task, FUSE successfully resolves complex parameter degeneracies that challenge existing methods, highlighting its potential to accelerate complex scientific discoveries in astrophysics and beyond.
